if you’ve talked to me for ~2 mins, you know i’m a big harry is louis’ baby stan™️ & therefore, couldn’t end 2022 without making a faves/recommendation list for the trope, especially given my harry is louis’ baby fic fest lol (sign up for it here if you’d like!). i don't want this to be 84 feet long, so i’ve limited myself to ~50 fics & since i have many praises to give, in lieu of summaries, i put why i love each fic. sorry for another long list but also not really? louis does literally everything he can do to make harry feel safe, comfortable, and happy with him. he’s so smitten immediately. the character & relationship development is so wonderful. there’s some hefty doses of angst, but they’re definitely evened out by fluff.

this fic is sososo cute. just endless fluff, crushing, fond, protective louis, poor harry trying his best. ugh. the works. i love i love i love.

harry squeals over louis calling him petnames just as i would if i ever heard it occur. flirting, pining, demonstrations of affection, a lil bit of good n steamy tent smut, and captain niall. top tier.

i think the line ‘louis will gladly be a fool to keep harry smiling’ says it all. protective/supportive louis, making sure that harry understands that louis supports him but still knows he can stand on his own just fine. love love love.

i mean, look. niall literally calls harry louis’ baby in the fic. need i say more?? louis knows harry is something special & supports harry however he can, harry’s immediately enamored with him, niall and zayn are top tier supporting characters who welcome him into their group so quickly & happily. wonderful dynamics all around.

this isn’t your typical harry is louis’ baby fic, but it very much becomes that in it’s own lovely - albeit, slightly angsty - way. jen always writes in such a wonderfully descriptive way that you can feel how they’re feeling. this fic will make you cry but it will also make you laugh and smile. & the smut is so good.

my cousin married her childhood crush (who’s also her best friend’s brother), so i’m a sucker for this trope. nicole consistently - as you’ll see in their other fics on this list - perfectly writes louis as immediately interested but it never feels too fast paced or unrealistic. harry is enamored by louis but simply does not know what to do with himself in the face of louis. it always just makes sense & is so lovely. we got some phone sex w louis’ dirty talk in here too, what a treat.

this is harry is louis’ baby but in a forbidden love kinda way that doesn’t feel like a forbidden love bc it feels so right is amazing. louis is immediately intrigued by & endeared by harry, harry’s enamored by louis & is constantly torn between flirting with him and respecting their fate. in this fic, it’s in the little things.

If you have a disdain of those kind of musicians and them playing stadiums then find these other musicians that you talk of and leave the Harry Styles TM fandom? Why won’t you do that? Put your money where your mouth his, don’t buy his 60 dollar nail polishes, don’t buy tickets to his shows at the MSG until he gets back to meeting you at rough trade. Instead of boycotting Louis for Harry’s sins maybe boycott Harry for Harry’s sins. An amazing concept I know but try it.

AU: Nine months after they break up, a twist of fate brings Harry and Louis back together at Christmas.

Harry is sitting there, so fucking casual, and Louis realizes in a split second he was not ready. When Harry walked out in Detroit and never looked back, he was a boy verging on a man, still only twenty years old, but there's a man in his place now. Hard and resolute, yes, but still, for the first time in a long time, Louis can kind of see the old Harry in him. The soft, directness of his gaze, the hesitant smile he gives to Lou, the way he wrings his ridiculously large hands in his lap.

He's a little bit the eager sixteen year old puppy dog again, his innocence and sweetness resurrected miraculously, and Louis freezes in place. He was prepared to face the asshole Harry. He was prepared to meet a whole new Harry.

Louis is not prepared to meet one of the old incarnations of Harry, and it absolutely tears him up.

Or the fic where Harry spirals out of control, the band breaks up, and then he shows back up, five years later.

Louis blinks his eyes open, his eyelids fluttering as the room swims around him. He takes several gulps of beer once he confirms that he’s definitely not hallucinating, that the very first portrait Harry Styles ever painted of him is hanging on that wall.

Louis stares at the wall, his heart jackrabbiting in his chest as he realizes that there’s not just one painting of him, there’s five, the portraits lined up like they’re some sort of storyboard depicting the rise and fall of his deepest love. The Demon King had been away for a while. He had to go between some of his different disguises to find new information, leaving you alone in the Infinity Castle with Nakime. You found the situation to be quite dull. Nakime wasn't one to talk much and whenever you asked her if she wanted to hang out, she would "respectfully decline". Knowing that you would have to occupy yourself, you decided to take matters into your own hands.

What you secured for yourself was enough to amuse you for the time Muzan was away. You even forgot how long he was gone and lost track of the days. When he returned home on time (as per his schedule), you didn't even notice his arrival.

He shows up to your quarters, a sour expression on his face. Not only had he failed to find the information he was searching for on the Blue Spider Lily, but his partner had ignored his return. He was expecting that you would be glad to see him, welcoming him with a hug and to see in your eyes how relieved you were to not be alone anymore.

But no. You were lounging about, with some strange item in your hands.

Muzan sped to the futon you were on and stared down at you. By this time, you could not ignore his presence.

You look up at him. "Oh, you're back."

His eyebrows twist into a scowl. "Is that all you have to say about it?"

"I don't know. What were you expecting?"

He started to snarl a bit.

"I take it you didn't find what you wanted."

"Of course not. All of the demons are useless and can't provide me with a proper lead. They even fail to locate the Ubuyashiki residence."

"I know. I'm sorry about that." You sit up. "Do you want a hug?"

His eyes move from staring at your face down to the item in your hands. His nose crinkles as he sees it. "What ... is this ...?" He points to what you are holding.

"Oh." You look at the toy that served as your companion while Muzan was away. It was a small plushie of him. It was quite adorable and conveniently matched his signature scowl, which he currently had painted on his face as he eyed the toy. You hold the plushie up to your eye level. "It's you, Muzan."

Muzan's scowl gets more prominent. "That is not me. I'm not a shrimpy, fat little thing like that."

"But it's cute," you say.

His fangs start to show. "This thing is not ..." He stares into the eyes of the plushie. It suddenly looks to him as if the plushie is begging to be loved by him. The twisted mouth that looks like it could be a grimace starts to resemble a pout in Muzan's eyes. He freezes in an awkward silence in the middle of a stare battle with the plushie. He clears his throat. "The jacket should have gold on it, not white."

"Oh?" You hadn't really noticed. You look at the details of the plushie's jacket to find that yes, it had white on it and not gold. You look to Muzan. "Does it really matter?"

Muzan stares at the plushie again. "No. It's a toy." He stiffly raises his hand and then awkwardly pats the plushie on the head. "So, you have been keeping y/n company while I've been away? Good job. It seems you ... may not be a disappointment." A small smile crosses his lips, and he sits down next to you to give you a hug and kiss. "I missed you."

Time Travel Rec List!

No fooling, today we have 9 time travel fics for your reading pleasure! Three are short and sweet, under 10k words; three are moderate at around 50k, and three are behemoths of over 100k! We also have a rarepair in the form of a Ziam canon-divergence time-travel fix-it fic.

Louis Tomlinson is one of the first members of NASA's top secret Chrono Exploration Program. When things go wrong and he's sent further back in time than planned, he has no other option than to show up on his ex-boyfriend's doorstep.

Reccer says: I think everyone knows this fic, NASA au, but how can we not recommend it? The plot is great, it's emotional, it's really good. Sp, so beatuiful, so immersive, the characters are written perfectly and it absolutely made me cry.

De amore ex tempore by Persephoneflouwers (101471, Mature, Harry Styles/Louis Tomlinson) - fic post

Or: the Middle Ages AU where Harry is a philosopher, whose thoughts happen five centuries too soon and Louis is a painter, whose art happens five centuries too late. Or: the Time Travel AU where alternate versions of themselves live simultaneously in different realities and their paths collide every time, until somehow, they converge into one.

Reccer says: Much of the story takes place during the Florentine Renaissance, at the end of the Middle Ages, and it's beautiful and well-written. I was at the Louvre a while back and while looking at the Caravaggio and Trevento paintings, images of De Amore Ex Tempore came to mind. Beyond that, I also really liked the story, the meeting of this Louis from the future with a Harry from the Middle Ages. It just goes to show that, whatever the era, they're bound to find each other!

And three, while battling writer’s block and having to resist the urge to kill off the main character in his books – the hot detective based on his ex-fiancé – he’s going to restore the mansion to its former glory. sunday snippet!

idk y'all i wrote some words. @homosociallyyours this is for you. a taste of dirtbag harry. he's not even dirtbaggy. idk.

“I don’t want you for a night, Harry,” Louis said as he wrenched Harry's hands from his hips and pushed them into Harry's chest, grip tight around his wrists. Harry sucked in a sharp breath, heart thundering in his chest when Louis didn't let go, and instead leaned in, lips brushing Harry's ear as he whispered, “And you won’t touch me like you touch them.”

Harry huffed a laugh, his entire body flushing hot at the rejection, and he looked down at their hands tangled together and pressed against his bare skin, wondering if the blush heating his chest and neck and face was visible. The floodlights at the entrance to the marina barely reached where they stood, and the lights along the length of the dock were meant to illuminate the path without ruining the view.

“You don’t want me to suck your cock, Louis?” Harry asked, annoyed at the tremor in his voice. He looked away, focusing on their boats docked side by side—the contrast of the gleaming white and cool blue of Louis’ late model yacht and the dull green hull of Harry's ancient cabin cruiser beside it an excellent visual metaphor. Shaking off his agitation, Harry cleared his throat and turned back, holding Louis’ gaze and pitching his voice lower, “I could take every inch of you. You could fuck my mouth… My throat… I can make you feel good, Louis. Better than you’ve—”

“No,” Louis snapped, quiet but demanding, and Harry bit his lip hard enough to hurt. Water lapped at the pilings, the bumpers knocking the edges of the dock and against the boats, the air tranquil except for Harry's harsh breaths. Staring unabashedly at Harry, Louis licked his lips, and moved in closer, crowding Harry, forcing him to hold his ground or step back, and for a brief, brilliant moment, Harry thought he was finally going to be kissed. Then Louis shrugged, releasing Harry's hands, and said, “All or nothing.”

He left Harry standing there and returned to his boat. The lights on Louis’ yacht flicked off, and Harry gasped, holding a hand to his bare chest where Louis had touched him. Shaking his head, Harry tried to rid himself of the heavy, desperate want, but it clung to him.

An hour later and it’s still there, thrumming alongside his heartbeat.
