if you’ve talked to me for ~2 mins, you know i’m a big harry is louis’ baby stan™️ & therefore, couldn’t end 2022 without making a faves/recommendation list for the trope, especially given my harry is louis’ baby fic fest lol (sign up for it here if you’d like!). i don't want this to be 84 feet long, so i’ve limited myself to ~50 fics & since i have many praises to give, in lieu of summaries, i put why i love each fic. sorry for another long list but also not really? i think the line ‘louis will gladly be a fool to keep harry smiling’ says it all. protective/supportive louis, making sure that harry understands that louis supports him but still knows he can stand on his own just fine. love love love.

i mean, look. niall literally calls harry louis’ baby in the fic. need i say more?? louis knows harry is something special & supports harry however he can, harry’s immediately enamored with him, niall and zayn are top tier supporting characters who welcome him into their group so quickly & happily. wonderful dynamics all around.

this isn’t your typical harry is louis’ baby fic, but it very much becomes that in it’s own lovely - albeit, slightly angsty - way. jen always writes in such a wonderfully descriptive way that you can feel how they’re feeling. this fic will make you cry but it will also make you laugh and smile. & the smut is so good.

my cousin married her childhood crush (who’s also her best friend’s brother), so i’m a sucker for this trope. nicole consistently - as you’ll see in their other fics on this list - perfectly writes louis as immediately interested but it never feels too fast paced or unrealistic. harry is enamored by louis but simply does not know what to do with himself in the face of louis. it always just makes sense & is so lovely. we got some phone sex w louis’ dirty talk in here too, what a treat.

i think 99% of this fandom knows this fic, but here’s my thoughts: it addresses the power imbalances well, there’s angst, fluff, and smut. the dirty talk and possessiveness are magical. their personal character & relationship growth is so perfectly done and you can really feel how much louis & harry love and care about each other.

you take me over, you’re the magic in my veins by supernope

this is harry is louis’ baby but in a forbidden love kinda way that doesn’t feel like a forbidden love bc it feels so right is amazing. louis is immediately intrigued by & endeared by harry, harry’s enamored by louis & is constantly torn between flirting with him and respecting their fate. in this fic, it’s in the little things.

As an avid One Direction fan fic reader, 2022 has been truly incredible! This may look like a long list for my favorites, but I read so many amazing fics this year that it was so hard to pare it down to just these. Today is the wonderful, amazingly talented, phenomenal @disgruntledkittenface’s birthday!! Maggie is one of our fandom’s most prolific writers. She always challenges me to push myself, both as a writer AND as a reader. I am usually a down the middle Larry and only Larry reader, but I will ALWAYS read a rare pair from Maggie. And I always fall in love with her characters, no matter what pairing she writes because the stories are always fully realized, the characters unique but familiar at the same time, and the writing so warm and comforting and emotionally intelligent.

To celebrate her birthday, I decided to pick my favorite fics of hers. You’ll see a good deal of Larry, obviously, but we’ve also got Tomlinshaw, Gryles, Shiall, and the incredibly underrated Horchata pairing (Niall/Nick Grimshaw). Give these a read and some kudos today! Here they are, in no particular order.

Darling, so it goes (Larry, 195K, E) : Maggie’s Grace Kelly inspired magnum opus for this year’s Big Bang. I had the pleasure of being able to go on the journey with Maggie, reading it as she wrote it, and I’m just so proud of her. This is the kind of fic you can just marinate in. The world building and the amount of research she put into this is astounding and it never feels like an exposition dump. Plus, the SMUT is super hot. I’m so envious of her skill in writing dirty talk.

hold this thread (Gryles, 26.6K, E) : Maggie’s summary on this one is perfect, so here you go: On his way to visit Henry getting ready for his London Fashion Week show, Nick bumps into a (stupidly pretty) model and pulls a loose thread on the sample he’s wearing. Horrified, Nick tries to mend the simple mistake, but it may just unravel into the best thing that ever could have happened to him. Listen, I love how Maggie writes Nick Grimshaw and whenever I see Harry’s Gucci campaigns, especially behind the scenes footage, I think of this fic.

i must admit i’d like to make you mine (Girl!Larry, 50K, M) : Maggie is one of the best ambassadors for Girl Direction out there, and this Fake Dating AU is a great way to dip your toe into that world if you never have before. It’s soft and lovely and has a cat cafe.

reach the stars (Horchata, 19K, M) : Getting a fic for your birthday is like the BEST present. While I was writing Own the Scars, Maggie and I would talk about the future for all those characters. She came up with the idea that Nick and Niall would end up together in the future, and I was just like...okay, yes. Yes, they do. It became this WHOLE THING and I was just so so so so happy that she eventually brought some of it to life. Her takes on the characters I created are so authentic because she knew them as intimately as I did. This is a gift I will always treasure <3

walk, walk fashion baby (Tomlinshaw, 23.8K, E) : Of all of Maggie’s rare pairings, I may like her take on Tomlinshaw the best. I am particularly soft for her Louis in this fic. He really does go on a journey of self-discovery in this one, and the way she writes their relationship in this fic is so fucking good.

just one look (and i fell so hard) (Larry, 15.2K, M) : As a New Yorker, I am completely biased towards this one. Maggie captures the magic of a perfect New York evening flawlessly. She uses the tagline for the Broadway Production so perfectly that I giggled about it for MONTHS every time a commercial using it came on.

a bagel for all seasons (Shiall, 29.8K, NR) : The Hallmark Christmas Movie AU we all deserve starring grumpy big city lawyer Niall and Shawn as the small town baker whose charms he is powerless against. Featuring Larry as the cat loving owners of the local B&B and Liam as the pure-hearted owner of the local Christmas Tree farm.

use your heart while it’s beating (Horchata, 7.7K, M) : I will never get over Maggie’s Soft Dom Niall and neither should you.

you came into my life (Larry, 57K, M) : I consider Maggie’s Queer Eye AU to be one of our modern fandom classics. I will always treasure this Louis’ journey and will be forever soft for her take on Jonathan Van Ness. Plus that yoga scene! WHEW.

baby, you’re the end of june (Larry, 13.6K, E) : Maggie’s Accidental Courting Fic! I’ve really loved all of her takes on the omegaverse (a trope that I love but is so daunting to me as a writer) but this one is a particular fave because her Harry is so damn endearing.

THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING YOU BLESS US WITH MAGGIE. It was truly hard to try and pick ten fics when I have such lovely memories of all of them. Happiest of birthdays <3

Zayn loves Liam.

He’s also pretty sure he’s in love with Liam, which is unfortunate, because Liam doesn’t love him back. Because Liam has a girlfriend, a wonderful, brilliant girl who Zayn can’t hate no matter how much part of him wants to, because she makes Liam do that nose scrunch thing that he only does when he’s really happy, and Zayn can’t find it in himself to hate someone that makes his best friend look like that.

It’s partially why this whole thing is so complicated. And it's why every time Liam asks him to go out clubbing there’s always a part of him that wants to say no.

It’s never quite as loud as the part of him that wants to say yes, though. Because apparently Zayn is a fucking masochist.

See, the problem isn’t going out with Liam. The problem isn’t the loud music - although Zayn isn’t the biggest fan of it - or the people that try and flirt with them. The problem is the dancing.

The beast, for lack of a better descriptor, is tall; large and imposing. Blazing, intense blue eyes glare at her, and Harry isn’t usually that good at reading people, but it’s like she’s staring into the pained soul of this creature that is more human than Harry had originally thought upon seeing her.

At last, large paws with sharp claws pull down the lever to open the metal doors that trap Harry’s mother and Harry reaches for her immediately, pulling her into a hug and whispers into her hair, “I will escape, I promise.”

With that, the beast tears her mother from her arms and practically drags her down the stairs, not forgetting to close the cell on the way out.

“You guys can flirt on the way,” Niall says over his shoulder, beckoning for them to follow him as he strides down the row of cubicles. “Come on, I’m starving.”

Harry looks at Louis, but he just laughs as they follow Niall. Oh. He thought he’d been picking up a vibe while they hung out, but apparently not. Well, it’s better to know how Louis feels now, so he can nip his growing crush in the bud. Louis is a great guy, at least they can be friends as well as coworkers.

Harry nodded along as Louis spoke, starting to flit around the shop and gather things together. “Is that all?” he asked when Louis finished. “No muffins this week?”

“Of course,” Harry said, packing the muffins into a box. “I remember all my regular customers’ favorites. Your mother has good taste.”

Louis smiled. “She usually does,” he says. “I look forward to trying your goods myself, and finding my own favorites.”

In this au, vampires are known and some people will choose to turn to help with severe medical issues.

Niall has decided he is going to turn and asks Harry to be with him during this process. However, they both get kidnapped by two different vampire clans/gangs who are at war with each other.

Harry is picked up by a gang, led by Louis, who publicly is marked as a bad gang while Niall is taken by the publicly marked as a good gang.

However, it’s revealed that it’s the opposite. Niall is actually with the evil/bad vampire gang and Harry is trying to convince Louis and his gang to help save his friend before Niall turned and bound to the bad clan.

All of this is based off of a weird ass dream I had and an obscure book series I read when I was in middle school!
