Every Month of 2023
Rules: link your favorite and/or most popular post from each month this year <3 (it’s totally fine to skip months!) and tag some CCs you love!
Tumblr media
tagged by : @baekhyunnybyun & @bethereforme (thank you loves ❤️❤️)
Here's to another year in NCITY. These are always fun to do because it's like a diary you can turn to. Also this made me realize 2023 was Yuta's year for me. He's been the most frequent nct member I've giffed in the year. Yeaaaah.
I also included a few of my personal faves from my other side blogs in the mix.
January
Most Popular: I get why this was the most popular gif of. .
Jaehyun x 💪
Fave: D.O x First Snow @ SMTOWN. I like to pretend that the blackmail worked and they got him outside this time. Also need him to know he needs to sing more. We love his vocals, right, right?
February
Most Popular: Yuta @ Capital Congress 2019. The only Congress invasion i accept. Such an underrated look that should be talked about more.
Personal Faves: Yuta x Vlive // Taeyong x 127 Mcountdown // Umji Pull Up
March
Most Popular: Taeyong x Yuta
April
Popular: Jeno Dazed Korea
May
Popular: Yuta . Our Chill Sauna
Favorites: Jaehyun . Chill Sauna. Smiley, dimple Jaehyun is my favorite Jaehyun // I really really like when idols wear glasses. So these two sets are my personal faves for the month of May. Heeseung x Mcountdown && Some NEOs in Glasses
June
Most Popular: Taeyong's Shalala Showcase.
Favorites: Taeil's bday set // Taeyong Shooting Behind // Kyungsoo x Let me in
July
Most popular: Mark x ISTJ M/V
Personal fave: D.O ' EXIST' photo shoot. I don't often gif EXO, or other boy groups outside of NCT. I do enjoy them and D.O is one of my biases in EXO, so there's that.
I also think this is Taeil's best hair color. ( Also, I miss him) Taeil x 127'th Anniversary // && Jaemin Spotifiy
August
Most Popular and one of personal faves for this month as well. Mark is truly Barbie.
Mark 'Barbie set' . This took me an embarrassingly long time to make, but i think the results were worth it.
Additional Faves: Ten x Throwback gifset // Renjun x NCT Nation Concert
September
Popular: Rock Star Yuta with his natural Red hair
Favorite: The type of Mark Lee gifs you can hear. Esp the first 1
October
Personal fave despite it flopping, lol. Once again I love Yuta and he has the cutest smile, imo. Yuta x BD set /
Also. This one for Jaehyun x Fact Check Teasers. He looks like the coolest, handsomest grim reaper.
Okay. Im gonna also include 2 edits for this month.. I really liked the colorings I did on these so I'm including it here. NCT DREAM TEASER Photos x WAYV Seasons Greetings Photos
Most popular: Yuta x Rockstar look

Top 5 months and why
thank you for the ask!! <33
September: Autumn !! still the fresh kind that has some sun around. And it's usually still kind of early with stress, like October is a nice autumn month bc of halloween etc. but it always gets a bit lost on me bc things are going on. So September is when u can like actually enjoy the freshness of autumn (my fave season bc I'm basic with that)
December: things are starting to chill out again (stress-wise (usually, and only at the end of the month bc the start of the month is always yikes))!! it's winter sure so it's gloomy dark 24/7 and depressing, but the Christmas lights everywhere makes it not as depressing. Almost cozy. Only time during the long ass winter here that life doesn't suck. Also those couple days between Christmas & new years are my favorite days of the year always
October: had to put it in here anyways. Even if things are stressful the halloween & late autumn atmosphere just is so so nice
August: again, the autumn thing. but like has bittersweet vibes. But real sweet ones bc finally out of the May/June/July (I hate the heat and I get weird during summers idk (can't sleep bc the sun doesn't rly go down and the warm temperatures)). Also august is the apple season which makes me super nostalgic. It's like the whole "yay soon it's autumn <3"-feels. Makes me want to make jam
March: there's sun again and I always think that'd never happen ever again ever, so the first few sunny days feel like being alive for the first time in months, pure adrenaline could do anything and everything's going to be alright actually
A dishonorable mention bc I'm a hater at heart: fucking NOVEMBER do I need to say more

Sim4AReason's Lookbook Challenge
I have been really nervous about doing this. I have wanted to make a lookbook challenge for a long time, I personally love them. My absolute favorite thing to do with my sims is dressing them up and taking pictures of them. I decided to throw caution to the wind and just do it. I am sure no one will want to do it and that is fine, but I wanted to put it out there on the off chance maybe someone would like to.
Rules:
Use any sim you want if you want to do a couple do it you want to only use one sim use one. However, you start off though that is the sim/sims you will use for the duration of the challenge.
No changing the genetics of the sim/sims let's face it they are perfect how they are. Hair and eye color can be changed we all know contacts and wigs exists XD.
Get creative, you can use in-game shots, render them, photoshop them to your liking, do whatever you like to showcase the outfit.
Give credit to the amazing CC makers that take time out of their day to provide us so much joy. Links would be amazing, let's face it they worked really hard and I am sure they would love for others to see their work too.
This challenge is not only open for Sims 4 any Sims franchise can join, the more the merrier.
Each day is open to interpretation. I am not going to stifle anyone's creativity. If you are not sure though what the day is asking for just let me know I will be happy to assist you. I do not bite, I promise.
Do the days in order, or skip around and do only the ones you want to. Take all the time in the world to finish this challenge, or don't there is no pressure to complete this.
Lastly, please have fun! If you decide to do this challenge I would love to see your pictures. Please tag it #S4R Lookbook Challenge and link back to my challenge page.

This one's going in the main tag because I do talk a lot lol
So overall, I really liked the new outfits! I didn't really go into this with any specific expectations (other than wanting Shizuku and Mafuyu to grow taller bc they deserve it but w/e)
More specific thoughts under the cut! I have quite a few now that the designs have sat for a few days lol
Link 1 | link 2 | link 3
L/N - I kind of actually like the new uniformity they have, and the professionalism of their outfits. I read someone else say that it's a departure from the high school look, which I agree with. The subtle differences in their outfits are really interesting for me to look at, like the different skirts, accessories, the ties/ribbons (and if you've read my Saki kabedon fic, there may be something for you in November you'll like ;3), even the cut of the jackets and buttons are individualized or matching with someone. All things considered, these outfits really suit them! They definitely say that they're a cohesive unit, plus a bit of a hint towards genre and they seem easy to move around in while playing. I like Miku's new outfit, too, it looks so cozy but very stylish. I would want to cosplay it.
MMJ - While I am going to miss the old outfits in this case, I think their new outfits are very cute! The baby blue suits all of them well, though I have seen people's edits of using their individual colors instead of the blue, and that's also cute. I don't know a lot about J-pop (I mostly listen to K-pop), so I don't know if this is the kind of cohesiveness that groups tend to go for. I love their differences in their skirts, and honestly those outfits looks so cute and easy to dance in, which is probably more important than other factors. Miku's outfit seems really elaborate, and kind of reminds me of one of her cards? Can't remember which one and I'm typing this in class so I'm too lazy to look lol.
VBS - I LOVE their outfits!! The fact that An's looks like Nagi's outfits kills me inside, and I think it's really cool that Toya's torn shirt is kind of like VBS!Kaito's! (Not sure if I've seen anyone else mention that but it was just something I noticed lol) It's really cool that all of their outfits have the pink in them somewhere. Kohane's outfit is probably my favorite, and I definitely want to cosplay it sometime, she looks so cute and comfy! Again, these outfits seem easy to move in, especially for their style of music. It fits their vibe as a whole, and I definitely agree with Akito losing one of his sweatshirts (as funny as him having three was) is kinda symbolic when it comes to his trust with everyone else and being more himself, if that makes sense. An also looks more somber than her old energetic self, so I'm looking forward to seeing her in upcoming stories. I'm more iffy on Miku's, though it's still really cool, it just reminds me more of n25 and I prefer her old VBS outfit.
WxS - RUI TURN AROUND!! Jk lol. Their outfits are also more uniform, but in a way that makes me think of how far they've come as a group instead of striving towards individual goals, y'know? They're more in sync and on the same page. I don't really have many thoughts beyond that, but their outfits seem fitting to them and their personalities. I definitely like Miku's more than her original.
n25 - ngl I focused more on them than their outfits originally. Because look at all of them! They all look more sad than they did in their original picture! Ena especially, and Mafuyu still doesn't have any semblance of light in her eyes. Does it mean anything that she's facing away from everyone else? Who knows. Does it mean anything that she's the only one whose clothes are kind of torn/tattered? Probably imo but again I'm in class I don't have time to psychoanalyze her based on her outfit. The flower motifs are cool, Ena's reminds me of the cover of Charles. All of their outfits look really comfortable, and still fit their music's aesthetics. I would actually love to have Kanade's sweater dress, I love sweater dresses. Miku has two socks, two shoes, and now two TIED ribbons! I like this new design for her, looks towards some kind of growth, but overall their outfits make me worried for where their stories are headed. That could be a whole other post on its own, honestly.

Monday November 7th,
Tranquil Fall Challenge days 18, 19 and 20. Can't believe I made it this far cause I tend to give up challenges after two weeks haha
Tumblr media Tumblr media
What do you own that gives off "cozy autumn" vibes?
I have a super cozy fleece blanket that has a slit it the middle so you can wrap it around your shoulders. It's colour blocked with different warm brown toned squares
How do you calm your nerves during exam season?
Having dedicated time to study and studying with friends help immensely. Also being well rested and trying to keep up some exercise. But when I feel overwhelmed with stress take half an hour to realistically plan what I can and can't do and remind myself that there's always retakes or moving the exam to the next exam date, as there's always two per year for us
When was the last time you let yourself express yourself openly? And what did you express
Idk I'm a pretty open person as is, but I think the last time was two days ago when I called out my dad on some bs haha
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Today, I'm grateful that 2/3 classes got cancelled cause I wasn't in the mood to go anyway
Today, I choose discipline. With having a day off (sort of) is always tempting to just do nothing imo, but there's plenty I could/should still do
Today, my goal is to do at least one/two chores

Mark: Isn't who you eat it with the most important? Haechan: No, it's when you eat it that's the most important Jeno: No, whether or not you went out is important
Here they go arguing about meaningless things again XD
Really it's Chenle who likes dragging out arguments as long as possible and Jisung is the only one who accommodates him
Pretty Jaemren <3
Tumblr media
Jeno, reading the menu: I was reading it very carefully, but it ended up being the wine menu
Reading earnestly
Tumblr media

Jaemin mukbang
Tumblr media
Renjun has never tried French onion soup before? *o*
Gahhh They're sharing all of the food. Sharing food with friends is the best <3 They're digging their spoons and forks into each other's plates and passing bread to each other and moving the plates all around <3 I do that with my family too <3
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Renjun is so delighted by this cozy Christmas brunch <3 Romantic boy
Renjun struggling with getting the camera to focus on his food
Renjun aggressively rolling up Chenle's sleeve like a parent

Jisung trying to play mind games to disturb Renhyuck :P
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Haechan lost so he had to drink the beverage and everyone at the table was freaking out but they couldn't disturb the other patrons so they were freaking out quietly lol
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm guessing the drink was really strong lol. They passed it around for the other guys to drink and all of them either took a sip or not at all. Though of course they wanted to leave as much as possible for Haechan.
Renle affection
Tumblr media
I saw this kyuu photo :P Even Jisung did it this time
Tumblr media
Next video will be them on a city walk I guess! :3 It looks very cute. They're taking photos of each other <3 But I have hit the screenshot limit so I will leave it for when I get to that video.

I’ll share some of my best experiences probably the most beautiful, memorable travels of my life, we spend there 3 days and 2 nights together with my love. The one that I’m going to share with you is my trip to Baguio. It was such a wonderful place that is a perfect getaway, all year round! Baguio city is also the highest elevated city in the Philippines and it rises from the clouds as a dynamic and sparkling gem across the mountain ranges of Sierra Madre and of course the tall pine trees, that gives air to the city.
First day of our Baguio Trip (November 12, 2023). We spend a relaxing afternoon at the Burnham Park together with my girlfriend where we rent a boat at the Burnham lagoon. This well-loved tourist spot in Baguio makes for us a perfect date. Next day (November 13, 2023) destination is the Baguio Bamboo Sanctuary. This nature park has been getting the social media buzz lately for it gives off Japan vibes. No wonder people have been describing it as Little Kyoto! This tourist spot in Baguio also has red-painted fences that look similar to the ones at the Arashiyama Bamboo Forest. The last day (November 14, 2023) we have been to many more such as Mines View, Botanical Gardens, Igorot Stone, Sky Ranch and Hill Mirador.
Baguio is always a favorite place of mine. Again, I will never get tired of visiting this place. Maybe it’s just because it’s Baguio City! It doesn’t run out of reasons for people to go back. Its coziness, atmosphere, people, environment, food, heritage and so many things that make me love the city more and even more.

[ad_1] Pick from a luxurious hotel, a cozy boutique stay or a budget-friendly hostel in an area that’s just right for you. Find your perfect accommodation with our guide to the best places to stay in Paris. LAST UPDATE: 5 Dec 2023 Anywhere We Roam is reader-supported. When you buy through links on our site, we may earn a small affiliate commission at no extra cost to you. Thanks for your support - Paul & Mark. Finding the right place to stay in Paris can transform your visit. There are many different areas each with their own personality. Some are blessed with a timeless charm that radiates from cobbled lanes, others are bursting with an energetic vibe. Paris is a walkable city in the center, but with districts that spiral out from the central hub, you have the option to stay further out to keep the costs down.  Our guide to the best places to stay in Paris covers all the main areas of the city along with hotel recommendations for different budgets. IN THIS GUIDE WHERE TO STAY IN PARIS OVERVIEW PARIS NEIGHBOURHOODS & AREAS The different areas of Paris can be split up in several ways. Firstly, the Seine River cuts Paris roughly in half as it flows from east to west across the city. The Left Bank, or Rive Gauche in French, is the area to the south of the river. The Right Bank, or River Droite in French, is the area to the north of the river. Paris is also split into 20 arrondissements (administrative districts). These districts spiral out from the center of the city – with 1 being the most central. Each arrondissement is then split into smaller boroughs. Finally, there are several distinct neighborhoods, each with their own vibe that sometimes cross into multiple arrondissements. MAP | PARIS NEIGHBOURHOODS This map covers the 10 best neighborhoods to stay in Paris. We have also marked some of the best things to do in Paris, to help you decide on an area. >> How to use this map / Click on the top left of the map to display the list of locations, then click on the locations to display further information. Click on the top right corner of the map to open a larger version in a new tab or the star to save to your Google Maps.   PARIS ACCOMMODATION PRICE GUIDE In each area, we have recommended 3 hotels roughly corresponding to different price ranges. BUDGET | $ ($125 – $225) MID-RANGE | $$ ($225 – $350) LUXURY | £££ ($350+) Bear in mind that Paris is an expensive city for hotels, so even the budget hotels may not seem that cheap. The hotels are busier and more expensive in the summer months. The odd bargain can be found between November and March. Some neighborhoods are generally cheaper than others, which we will highlight below. The very extensive Paris metro system means you can stay anywhere and quickly shuttle between the different sights. For assistance in planning your trip check out our 3-day Paris itinerary. LE MARAIS (3rd & 4rd Arrondissement) Best overall place to stay in Paris Le Marais is the old medieval center of Paris. Pretty, leafy, squares are surrounded by cobbled streets. Grand architecture is mixed with boutique shops and pavement cafes. There’s a whole host of interesting museums to explore during the day, while the evenings can be spent in cool bars or trendsetting dining. It’s a microcosm of Paris with a little bit of everything. It’s a great place to stay for first-timers visiting the city. Highlights are the stunning square of Place des Vosges, the modern inside-out Centre Pompidou, and the covered food market at Les Enfants Rouges. The only downsides are hotels book up well in advance and it can be pricey. Île de la Cité, Louvre, and Bastille are all walkable from Le Marais. The Eiffel Tower & Arc de Triomphe are about a 25-minute metro ride away. HÔTEL DE VILLE, LE MARAIS OUR PICK MID-RANGE | $$ HOTEL JULES & JIM Romantic modern hotel surrounded by two courtyards with an art exhibit in the lobby. The location in the center of Le Marais could hardly be better.
BOOKING.COM | HOTELS.COM POMPIDOU CENTRE, LE MARAIS BASTILLE & OBERKAMPF (11th & 12th Arrondissement) Best for street markets & people-watching Although Bastille is only a short walk east of Le Marais, it is much less touristy. Fantastic open-air markets and vintage shops line the streets. Pavement cafes are the perfect place for people-watching. Towards the northern end of Bastille is Oberkampf. Attracting a young crowd, it has a bustling nightlife and a great live music scene. It’s also known for its vibrant street art. There are not many major sights in the area, and you will have to jump on the metro each day to explore the city. However, it’s a great local hangout and one of the cheaper places to stay in Paris. BASTILLE OUR PICK MID-RANGE | $$ HÔTEL FABRIC A former textile factory, now a cool urban hotel. It has a modern design with exposed brick walls and it’s walking distance to Bastille, Oberkampf, and Le Marais. BOOKING.COM | HOTELS.COM LATIN QUARTER (5th Arrondissement) Best for experiences young bohemian Paris The Latin Quarter is a historic and lively neighborhood. Home to the Sorbonne University, the student population gives it a young bohemian vibe. Narrow lanes wind between intriguing bookshops, student-friendly cafes, and budget eateries. Its grand churches and imposing university buildings provide a dramatic Parisian backdrop of classical facades. The Latin Quarter has some of the best things to do in Paris. Highlights include the Catacombs, the Panthéon, and the Shakespeare & Company Bookstore. Just a few minutes’ walk north is Île de la Cité, home to Notre Dame and Saint Chappelle. While to the west is the café scene of Saint Germain des Prés. It’s a very good Paris neighborhood if you’re on a tighter budget, but still want to be within walking distance of some major sights.  PANTHÉON SHAKESPEAR & CO BOOKSTORE LATIN QUARTER SAINT GERMAIN DES PRÉS (6th Arrondissement) Best for Paris’s quintessential café scene Saint Germain des Prés is our favorite place to stay in Paris. Elegant and graceful, its maze of narrow cobbled lanes conceal independent stores. Curious antiques and independent fashion labels rub shoulders with tiny art galleries and rambling bookshops. It’s a lovely and quiet place to stroll during the day. In the evening, it has the best café scene in Paris. Highlights include the impressionist works at the Musée d’Orsay, the pretty gardens of Jardin du Luxembourg, and the cafés along Rue de Buci and Cour de Commerce Saint-André. The neighborhood is both very quiet and very central with many of the best sights in Paris only a 20–30-minute walk away. Hotels can be a bit pricier than in other areas, but it’s an excellent place to stay. COUR DE COMMERCE SAINT-ANDRÉ LUXURY | $$$ HOTEL LUTETIA Grand 5-star landmark hotel with parquet flooring, classical windows, and an imposing façade. It has a world-class restaurant, stylish bars, and a spa. BOOKING.COM | HOTELS.COM MUSÉE D’ORSAY JARDIN DU LUXEMBOURG EIFFEL TOWER (7th Arrondissement) Best for glorious views of the iconic landmark The area around the Eiffel Tower is dominated by large boulevards and iconic landmarks. One of the most visited parts of the city, it’s often packed with tourists and lacks the neighborhood feel of other areas of Paris. However, it contains some of the best sights in the city and it can make a good base if you’re only staying 1 or 2 nights. Highlights include the Eiffel Tower, the wonderful sculptures at the Rodin Museum, and Napoleon’s tomb at Les Invalides. There are some wonderful food options on quirky Rue Cler. In the evening, twilight strolls along the Seine and over Pont Alexandre III are breathtaking. There’s a wide range of hotels at different price points in this area. At the western end of the neighborhood, you might find the odd bargain, while the center is more luxurious. MID-RANGE | $$ ALBERTE HÔTEL This newly renovated 4-star hotel looks pristine in contemporary muted colors.
Foodie street Rue Cler and Eiffel Tower are only a couple of minutes’ walk. BOOKING.COM | HOTELS.COM OUR PICK LUXURY | $$$ LE NARCISSE BLANC HOTEL & SPA This place oozes Parisian elegance. 37 boutique rooms decorated in silky neutrals of beige, black, and white, come with 5-star services. The top floor has views sweeping views of the Paris skyline. It’s a beautiful hotel in a great location. BOOKING.COM | HOTELS.COM LES INVALIDES RODIN MUSEUM TROCADERO CHAMPS-ELYSÉES (8th Arrondissement) Best for exploring Parisian grandeur Nowhere showcases the splendor of Paris more emphatically than the area around the Champs-Elysées. Grand tree-lined boulevards connect triumphal arches and opulent palaces. Refined fashion houses rub shoulders with sophisticated restaurants and celebrity chefs. The Golden Triangle, delimited by the avenues Montaigne, Georges V, and the Champs-Elysées, is the destination for luxury shopping, while Sainte Honoré attracts cooler boutique brands. Highlights include the views from atop the Arc de Triomphe, strolling down the Champs Elysées, and exploring the museums of Modern Art & Yves Saint Laurent. This is Paris at its most splendid and where you will find many of the grandest hotels. However, just a short walk from the Arc de Triomphe prices drop quickly. CHAMPS-ELYSÉES OUR PICK MID-RANGE | $$ HÔTEL KEPPLER Charming 4-star hotel a couple of blocks back from the Champs-Élysées. Unique decoration is accompanied by a fitness center, spa, and hammam. Just a 5-minute walk from the Arc de Triomphe. BOOKING.COM | HOTELS.COM LUXURY | $$$ HOTEL GRAND POWERS 5-star hotel located in the heart of the Golden Triangle since 1920. Each room has bespoke interiors with custom-made furniture of light oak and aged brass softened by silk and velvet upholstery. A classy stay. BOOKING.COM | HOTELS.COM LOUVRE & LE SENTIER (1st & 2nd Arrondissement) Best for being in the center of everything These two neighborhoods are an enticing mix offering all the majesty of Paris alongside a regenerated neighborhood. The area around the Louvre is all pomp and grandeur. Formal gardens, boutique arcades, and grand palaces packed with masterpieces. Whereas Le Sentier has been gentrified in recent years. Its heart is Rue Montorgueil, a pedestrianized street with a diverse array of markets and great cafes.   Highlights include the Louvre, the opulent Paris Opera House, grand shopping at Galleries Lafayette and strolls through Jardin Tuileries. Located in the 1st & 2nd Arrondissement these diverse neighborhoods are the most central in Paris. Many of the city’s best sights are in walking distance. Hotels around the Louvre are generally opulent and in the luxury range, but head north into Le Sentier and you can find more budget-friendly options. LOUVRE BUDGET | $ HOTEL ACADIA ASTOTEL 3-star hotel with modern bright rooms located just off Haussmann Boulevard. Excellent location nearby to the galleries and the Paris opera. Free soft drinks and snacks in the lobby. BOOKING.COM | HOTELS.COM OUR PICK MID-RANGE | $$ HÔTEL MOLIÈRE Warm and friendly small 4-star boutique hotel tucked into the backstreets north of the Louvre. The location is superb with many great sights in walking distance. BOOKING.COM | HOTELS.COM LUXURY | $$$ LE MEURICE – DORCHESTER COLLECTION Decorated in an 18th-century style with Louis XVI furniture, hotels don’t come much grander than this. Glorious dining areas with Michelin-starred chefs and magnificent views of the Jardin Tuileries from the terrace. A honeymoon extravagance. BOOKING.COM | HOTELS.COM PARIS OPERA HOUSE GALLERIES LAFAYETTE MONTMARTRE (18th Arrondissement) Best for a romantic fairy-tale stay Perched on a hill and cut off from the rest of the city, Montmartre is more like a medieval French village than a district of Paris. This fabled hilltop is the stuff of movies, with several, like Amélie, filmed here. Its cobbled stoned streets have a rich artistic legacy.
Pablo Picasso, Vincent van Gogh, and Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec all lived and worked here. More current artists gather in Place de Tertre, where you can pick up a picture or get your portrait painted. It’s an idyllic and romantic place to stay. At weekends, Place des Abbesses is great for brunch and the second-hand market is ideal for a slow amble. Other highlights include the Wall of Love and the Basilica of Sacré-Cœur. It’s a very pretty place to stay, but it has its downsides. The steep hill can make it difficult for some people to get around. The location on the northern edge of central Paris means you’ll need to take the metro or taxi to the other attractions in Paris. The only place you can easily walk to is Pigalle.  MONTMARTRE OUR PICK MID-RANGE | $$ MOM’ART HOTEL Family-run 4-star boutique hotel with beautiful spaces. It’s set just underneath the funicular up to Sacre Coeur. BOOKING.COM | HOTELS.COM LUXURY | $$$ MANOLITA PARIS 5-star hotel with modern yet classically designed rooms and great attention to detail. Balconied rooms look out over Paris and it’s perfectly situated for ambling up into Montmartre. BOOKING.COM | HOTELS.COM HARDWARE SOCIÉTÉ PLACE DU TERTRE MONTMARTRE SOUTH PIGALLE (9th & 10th Arrondissement) Best trendy bars and raunchy nightlife Pigalle used to be a very seedy part of Paris. The brash neon lights of Moulin Rouge cabarets, peep shows, and sex shops still light up the slightly dingy main streets. But in the back streets, it’s a whole different scene. South Pigalle – or SoPi to the cool kids – is home to fusion bistros and concept hotels. At trendy cocktail bars you can sip unique creations to the tunes of a resident DJ. Rue des Martyrs has turned itself into a foodie heaven and you’ll find many of the best coffee shops in Paris. The neighborhood has some of the most affordable accommodation in the city. It’s a great destination for wild nights out and Montmartre is only a short walk up the hill. However, the area can be extremely noisy on Friday and Saturday nights, and you’ll need to hop on the metro to get to many of the best sights. BUDGET | $ HOTEL FRANCE ALBION A good value 2-star hotel situated in the quiet neighborhood of Saints George, it’s only a 5-minute walk to the bars of Pigalle or the shopping streets of Opéra. BOOKING.COM | HOTELS.COM OUR PICK MID-RANGE | $$ LE PIGALLE A member of Design Hotels, this uber-cool 4-star boutique hotel has intriguingly decorated rooms. Located in the heart of South Pigalle tunes in the foyer are chosen by the resident DJ. BOOKING.COM | HOTELS.COM LUXURY | $$$ MAISON SOUQUET Parisian Belle Époque charm in a former brothel with opulent rooms richly decorated in silks and velvet. Guests have exclusive use of the spa and swimming pool. BOOKING.COM | HOTELS.COM NO ENTRY, COCKTAIL BAR, PIGALLE BELLEVILLE (19th & 20th Arrondissement) Best budget destination with indie vibe Belleville is a neighborhood on the eastern edge of Paris. Except for Père Lachaise cemetery, there are no major sights here, and it is a 15–20-minute metro ride into the city centre. However, what Belleville has is a diverse and vibrant character. Home to a mix of Chinese, North African and Jewish people, its multi-culturalism, and strong connection to the artistic community have created an indie vibe. Street art, murals and graffiti reflect the neighborhoods’ alternative spirit and there is food from all corners of the globe. Belleville is the Paris equivalent of Hackney in London, or Williamsburg in New York. Being out of the center you get much more bang for your buck here. For the same price rooms are bigger and hotels smarter, but you couldn’t find a luxury suite if you tried. PÈRE LACHAISE CEMETERY BUDGET | $ HOTEL SCARLETT Funky, neat, economical, and comfortable. This little 3-star hotel is opposite a great indie bookshop in the heart of Belleville. BOOKING.COM | HOTELS.COM MID-RANGE | $$ LA PLANQUE HOTEL
Cute, quirky, country-style 3-star hotel with a garden. Coffee and pastries are available throughout the day. It’s a 12-minute walk to Place de la République. BOOKING.COM | HOTELS.COM MORE FRANCE GUIDES ANYWHERE WE ROAM ISREADER-SUPPORTED Booking your trip via the links on this page earns us a small commission at no extra cost to you. Book Review #132 of 2023--
Tumblr media
On a Snowy Christmas Night by Debbi Rawlins. Rating: 3 stars.
Read from November 17th to 18th.
Another Christmas read done for this month. I'm glad I've given myself space in my TBR to pick up holiday Romance novels as the mood strikes. Sadly, this one wasn't nearly as good as I was wanting it to be. I would say expecting but, look at that cover, we all knew what I was getting into based on that alone. But even with adjusted expectations there were moments where this one really just missed the mark for me.
I struggled with the writing on this one and a couple of times I thought to myself, "this had to have been written around 2012." Because, as we all know, 2012 was just a different era of novels. A lot of the whole girls putting down other girls, girls having to be described as tiny in comparison to the man, and an insane amount of these gender roles being reinforced. In this one, the main character is brilliant (high IQ, graduated high school several years early, went to grad school, etc.) tech wizard of some kind who just sometimes forgets to eat lunch because she's soooo into her work and that lends to her being just tiny. She's not like a normal thin girl though because she's socially awkward and quirky and unwilling to play games like other girls do when trying to land a guy. And there are a few moments while reading where you can tell that this author a) has probably never worked on or near a farm in their life and b) was obsessed with reading/writing farmer/non-farmer romances. Which, if that's your thing girl, get it. But for the love of god know what the fuck you're talking about. So, how did this one manage to get a 3 star rating out of me? Great question, I'd love to tell you.
I have an obsession with Christmas. Right now is my favorite time of the year. I love the lights and the way life slows down and the food and the get togethers with friends and family. I love the snow and the warm beverages that come with this time of the year. So, while, yes, this book is just A LOT when it comes to negatives, it is also a lot when it comes to Christmas. The Christmas vibes jump off the page and I feel like the setting is also so quaint and ideal for a holiday story. I did feel like I could root for the characters to get together and I did feel like the ending made a lot of sense. I was surprised that I was so hopeful for their relationship at the end.
Overall, not great, but if you like Christmas and quaint and cozy settings with an adorable horse or two, maybe this is your vibe? And if you like it, no worries, this series in over 10 books long and you'll have plenty to read moving forward.
