Hi! I give you this Stobotnik fankid I made a while ago :'y
She's Sofia --or Ivania or some other name ending in 'ia'-- Robotnik (coolest last name)
It's a compilation and also there's some Stone for practice bc I have no idea how to draw him pipipi Eggman is easier bc it's just his Sonic Boom design (I love it)
Some stuff about this universe under the cut!
(Btw if there's incongruencies is bc I can't make up my mind about the facts whwhw)
-Robotnik and Stone are married, very much married. Cartoon villains in love, I love that for them.
-["MARTHA I'M COMING HOME SWEETIE-"] Mixing up the movie things and the whatever's going on in the Sonic Boom, so Robotnik was gone for eight months and when he's back she's already born.
>Also the drawing is a reference to Icarly's "Whatcha got there?" "A smoothie" but she was clearly asking about the ostrich Spencer brought with him.
>Alternatively, Eggman's there and they go through the journey together yippiee. Choosing names, making evil parenting plans and whatever, being their idiot selves.
(After celebrating because they're good news actually) "I want a boy or a girl-" (Eggman) "Yeah me too." (Stone) "-and we should name them a single, worth of remembering name! Like... Eggette for a girl and Eggson for a boy." "I'm not letting you name them any of that, doctor..." "Okay, then how about Beyonce for a girl and-"
>They wouldn't have kids (?? maybe? I don't really know, I only know sonic boom and the movie :'U)- but she was probably the 1% the birth control warns you about. Also, Stobotnik got a very active seggsual life, and I'm imagining she came to be from a quickie over the desk, why not.
>Helpful diagram of Eggman + Stone kissing and then = baby. They were in work hours.
-In the one where he comes back and the baby's already there, Eggman does a terrible job as a father the few first months, but then he gets the hang of it and it's not so bad.
>He gets projectile vomited on and he's immediately asking to get an abortion (the baby's already born) (he didn't give birth to her), Stone says no anyways.
>"Surprisingly, I'm a good father" he thinks one day and it's because he's still very much an orphan here with no frame of comparation or example aside from researching the matter.
-In the one where they wait for her together, he does all the research necessary in all those months, absolutely refusing in doing an average job in that matter, he's the great Ivo Robotnik c'mon. He excels at anything and he'll be a great father (jk he's terrified of fucking up).
-The Stobotnik family is an evil but loving family, like the bears in Puss in Boots whwh criminal family✨
-For the funny of it, Sonic and Eggman got a sort of relationship like in Sonic Boom, so sometime maybe our favorite boy, Tails and Knuckles had to look after their child.
-Also since Knuckles broke Stone's and Robotnik's hands with their handshake, let's have him handle the baby with the most careful grip ever, just to demonstrate that he didn't have to grab their hands that hard aksdjask
-She's a big fan of Sonic and friends (Sonic the Hedgehog, not Sonic Wachowski, the second guy hadn't done even half the things she admires him for, but no one has the heart to tell her when she's a kid). Has a bunch of merch and all the comics of Sonic the Hedgehog.
>When she's a teenager she proudly uses her Sonic backpack in the same way Deadpool uses his Hello Kitty backpack.
-BTW Sonic, Knuckles and Tails are all brothers and Maddie and Tom's kids bc that's the best idea ever made.
-ALSO I'm definitely gonna draw that scene where Knuckles was about to put the baby in the blender and Sonic shouts THE CHILI DOG NOT THE BABY. Some day, you'll see pipipi.
-SAGE was created for various reasons, to be her sister (since she wouldn't stop asking for one but neither Stone nor Robotnik were willing in raising another human kid, thanks very much), to protect her, and also to answer the tedious "why?" questions that neither father had the patience for (A+ parenting right there). Maybe she was used for the original purpose too idk (I don't know that sonic game where she debuts).
>The child's delighted about having a sister, then she grows up and SAGE doesn't, so she has a little sister.
>METAL SONIC TOO MAYBE? Perfect lil american family, the two happily married parents and their three kids (one human girl, an IA and a robot clone of their alien enemy).
-On her early months she was called Pebble, because she really was a mini Stone, Robotnik went along with it (bc he also looked at her and only saw his husband whw) until she was a little older and they started calling her by her name.
>Alternatively, since Eggman was gone, Stone waited for him to return in hopes of choosing together a name for their child, and Pebble worked as a placeholder since she was just a bebi.
>Alternatively alternatively, Eggman came up with the nickname. ROCK-ONNAISSANCE 🗣️ also yeah I know he was going crazy from the mushroom stuff, but he's not above making silly puns, he's a dad now and also he's naturally silly.
(NGL I really gotta make up my mind about how it all happened ajsdkad)
-She's a spoiled kid and also a little menace, unintentionally evil, she can't help it.
>Good-hearted too sometimes, she loves Sage and does her best to protect her back (it's not necessary but it's appreciated anyways).
-Robotnik calls himself 'daddy' way too much in the live-action movies to ignore it, so he's daddy and Stone's dad (dada when she was younger).
>"These are my daddies!" (points to what's clearly two villains -but also good fathers-)
-She has Robotnik's eyes but as big as Stone's. They're the lethal-est sad puppy eyes ever (they work wonders on both parents and other people) (both men got beautiful dark brown eyes with visible eyelashes fight me).
>Look at Eggman's silly eyelashes:
Tumblr media
>Also, you know that picture of Lee Majdoub with the beautiful everything? I think he was wearing eyeliner so my Stone wears eyeliner too in contrast to Eggman's dark circles under his eyes JDJS😭
-She's the five-year-old that made Sonic fear them because 'they can be so cruel when they sense weakness' (she was brutally honest as any young kid is).
-Stone and Robotnik got Gomez and Morticia Addams kinda parenting. They see their child beating up someone and they're like:
"What did we do wrong?" (Stone while shaking his head in disappointment) "I know... she lacks resourcefulness." (Eggman) "Exactly, there's her baseball bat right there, why doesn't she use it?"
-Remember that Shadow said in a game that he wouldn't mind taking a candy from a baby? (fandub I think but still) This comes in handy when neither Tails, Sonic or Knuckles want to upset the kid (so Shadow does it instead).
-She plays sports too because she got too much energy. In each of them she loses her patience. She grabs the football and hauls it at the nearest team member, she throws her baseball bat to the ground and starts beating up whoever threw the ball that she missed, she stomps in frustration if she loses, she's great at dodgeball (sends her classmates to the infirmary).
-Throws tantrums and stuff and overall's an annoying kid if she's upset. Eggman's like UGH WHY'S SHE LIKE THIS?? and Stone's like Because of you, doctor (terrible temperament runs in the family and also Robotnik just spoiled her too much).
-I'm kinda dressing her up in the clothes that existed in my mind that supposedly Eggman wore (the weird dress-like jacket with the big zipper in the middle). Under her jacket there's a dress in the same pattern as the original Eggman's clothes, also she wears a baby onesie like that too.
-When she's older she's definitely proud of her fathers, but she doesn't appreciate the rumors that she's prone to go power-crazy like Robotnik did. Especially because it may be true, but what do they know.
-For the irony, she can't stand drinking coffee, but loves the smell of it because it reminds her of home (omg).
-THEY HAVE A PET CAT like I read in some fics and her name is Robot and she's a lil shit and also grumpy like Robotnik.
Tumblr media
>Maybe she brings her alive mice to experiment on all sort of stuff (like Pávlov and his dogs and the guy Skinner with his mice and cats (??))
-She gets to hang out with Sonic and friends under the condition of annoying him as much as possible. So, she complies. (She loves Sonic the Hedgehog, but she loves making her fathers happy more).
-Very smart kid but not to the level of Tails or Robotnik at that age, she's just got very good memory and learning skills and knows a lot of stuff ever since she was a little kid. More like a Matilda-kinda intelligence.
-She's a scientist when she grows up too but the kind that makes evil potions and serums and stuff aksjdk probably (chemistry things? biochem idk). She can make silly little robots for the fun of it but it's not her passion, unlike Robotnik and Stone's. PROBABLY. I'm still deciding.
-BTW LOOK (it says 'carefully crafted ploy to distract space porcupines')
Tumblr media
>While Eggman's there with the baby and Sonic in front of him going AWWW BABY BOO and making her laugh, Stone is sneaking up on him holding a chair above his head to knock him out.
THAT'S IT THANKS FOR READING ✨✨

Top 5 Celeste levels, official and/or fanmade.
ooh. this is tough... but i can do that. here we go
minge's top 5 [official] celeste levels
#5. 6A // Reflection
oh yeah. the exposition level. it's got my favorite crystal heart puzzle, adds at least 3 of my favorite mechanics in the game (kevins, feathers, bumpers) AND it's got a whole boss fight in it where you, quite literally, confront yourself. it's such a cool setup for chapter 7 as well
#4. 7A // The Summit
champion's road but celeste. i love this level. Reach for the Summit is actually one of my favorite songs from this game solely because of how well it translates every past level's theme into this cool, unified, progressive melody. also combining all the levels like this is just such a cool idea, especially the little interactions madeline and (not) madeline have with each other.
and the final part一especially when it comes to a casual runthrough or speedrunning一 is SUCH an adrenaline rush; every time i get there, i'm always thinking "you can do this". it's like you magically just gain the determination to keep going
#3. 2A // Old Site
this is really here because of bias. i think this chapter is neat and a very nice setup for some other stuff later on. but why is it here though?
dream blocks get introduced. it's my favorite gimmick. there's so much fun to be had with them, no matter how good you are at the game. as someone who's already kinda... cracked, i already know a lot of stuff you can pull off. dream jumps, dream grabs, dream hypers, to name a few... and don't get me STARTED on what mods do to it
#2. 8C // Core C-Side
champion's road but short. in the sense that, while C-Sides are only like 3 rooms, the last room is just a fusion of (nearly) every single gimmick you've been shown up to this point, INCLUDING Core's hot/cold gimmick.
to be completely honest, i hate Core with every fiber of my being (gameplay-wise. i think when it pertains to anything else it's actually very cool). i hated 8A and 8B on my first runs through them... but this was (and is) the one exception.
also you learn how to do hypers.
#1. 9A // Farewell
chat. need i say more
it's champion's road but for real. and you get to go to SPACE
story so good it almost makes you cry with symbolism done severely well, music so good it makes you feel every emotion all at once (i even REMIXED Farewell the song i love it that much), and gameplay so good that, despite it being intense on the first run through, is genuinely very cool and fun once you get it down. no other celeste level could ever do a "final room" like 9A did. plus you even get taught how to wavedash (via POWERPOINT i must add)! that's like, the coolest tech in the game... and the aesthetic?
it's SPACE bro who doesn't like space. you're throwin weird space jellies and jumping on space pufferfish and dodging space starfish. there's quite literally a black hole eventually. also you can breathe and there's a bird up here that WON'T STOP RUNNING AWAY
once you beat it, you become changed forever. nowadays i can beat it in like 35 minutes... but i'll be damned if i ever attempt "the farewell golden". i know my limits
i would've definitely given my favorite modded levels; there's a lot of them i know were good, but i couldn't recall anything specific about them in particular, so i just... didn't
i'll probably add it on to this post some other day

🎮 2, 3, 10, 11, 14, 26, 27, 33, 47, 48, 50!
2. “Do you like playing with mods?” Rarely, and usually only after beating the vanilla game. The only exceptions are fanmade patches to fix bugs I’m likely or inevitably going to encounter. When I play Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War, I intend to apply an English translation patch.
3. “Do you like to get 100% achievements?” Yes and no, I like experiencing all story content that isn’t tied to making bad decisions. So I’ll usually go for side content, but not bad endings (with the exception of DDLC, where I’m pretty sure you have to get the bad ending at least once to get everything). I also don’t usually go for all the Support conversations in Fire Emblem games.
10. “Quick, name the first song from a game that comes to mind!” Fódlan Winds, from Fire Emblem: Three Houses.
youtube
11. “A game location you really like.” There are several such locations! Delfino Plaza sounds like a nice place when people aren’t inking everything. Wuhu Island also sounds really nice. Garreg Mach Monastery has a really nice design, too!
14. “A character you really like in the game you’re currently playing?” Two, actually, from Fire Emblem Engage. I really like Alear, despite how annoying I find it when other characters worship them (literally, they’re a Divine Dragon and treated like a god by the other characters). They themselves remain likable. And Alcryst is probably my favorite character in the game. He’s a lot like Bernadetta in FE3H, except seemingly without the tragic backstory. Which actually makes sense, some people have anxiety because of neurodivergence, not necessarily trauma (though I wouldn’t be surprised if his father made mistakes raising him).
26. “A game’s art style that had to grow on you.” Fire Emblem Engage took a little getting used to. The character designs are over-the-top, but I eventually got used to them. Céline’s design comes to mind.
27. “Realism or stylized?” I prefer a more stylized look, but it doesn’t really matter to me as long as the art style looks nice.
33. “Someone has never played a video game before but is open to trying any genre. What game would you recommend as their first?” I would say Pokémon Black or White. It’s turn-based, so it doesn’t require timing or reflexes, but also has a complex story that should keep them engaged, while also not having too many potentially-intimidating mechanics like a Fire Emblem game could have.
47. “Most tragic gaming death?” Out of the ones I’ve witnessed? Probably Edelgard. She wanted to improve Fódlan’s situation, but went about it the wrong way, and is so stubborn about wanting to do things her way, in part because of her shortened lifespan, that when she loses the war (which happens on three out of four routes), she either begs Byleth to kill her or attacks Dimitri so that he kills her. The latter case is particularly tragic since at that point in the story, he is willing to spare her.
48. “Most satisfying villain death?” Grima, in Fire Emblem Awakening. The dialogue leading up to the level itself really hypes you up for the final battle, and the music that plays during is some of the coolest in the game. Your character can also sacrifice themselves to kill Grima for good, and the dialogue is awesome (if so spoilery I can’t quote it).
youtube
50. “Do you look up tutorials, or do you like to figure it out yourself?” I like to figure things out myself, but if I can’t, I look things up.

Curse you for taking the coolest username! >:c
(But yeah I just love the sound of the word. Elytrians. Does it have something to do with elytra from Minecraft? Or does elytra have another meaning I’ve somehow missed?)
elytra are actually the name for the protective casings that beetles have guarding their wings when not using them in flight, which is where the name for the minecraft elytra came from. my url is a minecraft reference though, it refers to fanmade lore about a winged folk/species called "elytrians" or "elytrans" (which is the name of my sideblog).

Ripplestar, the cat who arguably had the coolest death and whom I attached an entire backstory to since he has none, the backstory is below the read more.
Ok, so for my fanmade backstory, Ripplestar is the direct decendent of Thunder, he can't stand being compared to Thunder and the constant Pressure. Then at his warrior ceremony, the brand new leader of thunderclan, Finchstar, decides to name him RippleSTORM. Fed up with Thunderclan, Ripplestorm runs away to shadowclan, and is very quickly rising the ranks due to his strength and determination. He hears from gathering after gathering of how 'blessed' Thunderclan is and about 'how much better they're doing than shadowclan', as well as having constant dreams of Starclan trying to force him to return to his original clan. Eventually, he has had enough, and when he becomes leader, at the next gathering, ambushes the clans and attempts to kill his former leader as a way to get back at Starclan. His ancestor, Thunder himself, has had enough of his decendant's actions, and strikes him with lightning, taking nearly all his nine lives. Ripplestar stumbles off of the high rock, but manages to grab on with his only functioning front paws, but he cannot support his own weight, and accidentally rips his front claws off, and plummets to his demise.
He refuses to go by his former name, so he still calls himself Ripplestar, despite how much he dislikes Starclan.

Around the end of November last year, I unveiled a full set of robot masters that I had designed for my very own faux Mega Man game, Mega Man Ultimate! At first, I was a little nervous in showing off my fanmade robot masters, but to my surprise, they were a big hit— I was not expecting the Synergon Legion bots to be so well-received!
In the first post I've linked, I mentioned that I've been designing robot master OCs since mid-2013, though ended up becoming super reclusive with them since a lot of them were subject to extreme ridicule, despite the fact that none of them were meant to be on the same level as official ones.
However, there was one particular bot in the very first lineup of robot masters that I designed which stood out the most, in that he actually looked like he belonged in a Mega Man game. Granted, his design was still particularly lacking, but I held him in a high regard.
And after designing a full set of robot masters that all look official in one way or another, I figured that it was high time that I revisit said favorite robot master OC of mine and give him a big redesign with my newfound robot master design smarts. Enter...

SDN-001: Stellar Man
Height: 5'11" Special Weapon: Crescent Boomerang Good Point: Confident Bad Point: Tends to overwork himself
Stellar Man is the rank of general of the Space Surveillance Network. As the head of the astral agency, he works tirelessly to ensure that the space station he mans is always within perfect working order. He specializes in the design of numerous spacecrafts and space stations, and has a major soft spot for all things astrology, spending most of his free time studying star patterns and galaxies.
When he's doing battle with a threat from beyond the SSN's parsec (Namely a certain Mega Man), Stellar Man utilizes his zero gravity mobility and his signature weapon: the Crescent Boomerang, a cross between the Metal Blade and the Rolling Cutter. With an iconic weapon, a well-regarded reputation and an absolutely out of this world look overall, he's a real star, man!
(Design and sprite process below the cut!)
At last, Stellar Man makes his debut on my blog! I've actually had Stellar Man's general design around since before I even had any of the Mega Man Ultimate robot masters up on tumblr, so this appearance was a long time coming!
When I set out to design him, one of the biggest things I wanted out of his design was to have him look a lot like the Stardroids from Mega Man V. The Stardroids have some of the coolest design elements in Classic Mega Man's history; even now, there's nothing quite like them, in my eyes, and that was something I wanted to incorporate into Stellar Man's design.
I also knew that I wanted him to have a unique helmet shape, but after combing through all of the robot masters and Stardroids, I couldn't think of something that'd stand out. It was when I looked to the character designs of the X Series, however, that I found a few design aspects that I liked, and suddenly his design was blasting off!
Tumblr media
Here is the step-by-step process I made when drawing Stellar Man's sprite! Really, the toughest thing about taking the design and shrinking it down to sprite form was the helmet, as the jagged edges and the glass dome proved to be a challenge in sizing perfectly, but I'm really happy with how he ended up looking!
Also, can we talk about the stage select portrait I drew for him?! I'm fairly certain that it's one of my absolute best portraits I've sprited, right up there with Strafe Man and Glitch Man! It originally started as a test to see how far I could go in spriting a robot master portrait without any preliminary sketching... and before I knew it, I had a full icon made. Talk about motivation!
I am REALLY proud of the sprites on display here and the overall design of Stellar Man, and I couldn't wait to show them to my followers! I really hope you've enjoyed everything this post has to offer, and you can certainly expect to see more fanmade robot masters of mine in the future!

Rant/tell me about Cobalt and why u love him so much??
Ok so this is probably going to get very long, and very, very cheesy, and I hope y’all are ready for this.
Cobalt is a very special character to me and is absolutely my favorite character of all time, from anything in the history of ever. It doesn’t matter what other fandom I’m hyperfixated on or what character I’m saying is my son at the moment, if you bring him up at any time, in any context I will be there.
So you’re probably wondering how I got here.
Once upon a time, it was 2009 and I was a young weeaboo, constantly absorbing everything anime or manga I could. I had just come out from the Astro Boy movie, and I immediately wanted to watch the source material. I’d already seen a bit of it on adult swim when they were running an Astro Boy marathon, but I had to go to bed at 11:30 then so I didn’t get to see much. So this time, I went to youtube and I found all the (dubbed) episodes of the 60s series. (Sadly you can’t find them all there anymore and it’s a crying shame).
I basically marathoned them, but over in the sidebar where the recommendations were, I kept seeing the thumbnail for part 2 or 3 (this was back when youtube only let you post 10 minute videos and you had to watch anime in 3 parts) of the episode “Brother Jetto.” You could plainly see him, and so it was clear this was supposed to be Astro’s brother. I thought it was neat that Astro even had a brother, as I’d only known about Uran before. I wanted to know more, but I promised myself I wouldn’t skip ahead. Though it was very tempting at times, I stuck to my guns and watched all 83 episodes up to that point.
However, it was not actually love at first sight. When I finally got to this episode 84, I wasn’t really impressed. “Wow, he’s kind of annoying, what’s the point?” I had thought like a fool, but I was still willing to accept him as part of the canon, as I figured I’d be seeing a lot more of him now that he had been introduced. After all, that’s what they did with Uran! But then…. that pretty much didn’t happen at all, which I thought was kind of weird. After all, why introduce a new sibling if he’s not going to show up again?
But then I got to the episode “A Deep, Deep Secret” about 6 episodes later, and I found myself a little relieved that he wasn’t completely canned. Upon watching that episode, I’d found that he’d started to grow on me a bit, but he still wasn’t my favorite. However, the trend of him being gone for several episodes only to show up once in a blue moon continued until I’d run out of episodes. I moved on to the 80s series next (and then the 2003 series) having learned that Cobalt had been replaced by Atlas as Astro’s brother. While I enjoyed those series (the 80s one a bit moreso than the 2003 one), I found myself kind of missing Astro’s dingus brother that had barely seemed to get a chance. After marathoning all the series (at the time), I started doing some googling and found out he had a slightly better run in the undubbed Japanese episodes (which was also how I discovered AB-O! Hi fandom!) and I’d learned a lot more about him. But the most important thing I’d learned was that I was in fact very emotionally invested in this character now and I was in deep.
Mind you at this time the undubbed Japanese episodes were nearly impossible to find without purchasing the complete DVD set and a player that could play them (on account of the fact that the set was region locked from western DVD players) so for years I sat wondering more about what those Japanese episodes were like, as the forums only had plot summaries with a handful of screencaps to go off of. Nowadays you can watch all the undubbed (and sadly unsubbed) episodes here but 13 year old me did not have the knowledge to do foreign language googling at the time.
But still, my Cobalt-loving heart wanted more, so I scoured the English speaking internet for whatever I could find, official or fanmade. Official content was virtually nonexistent, and the amount of fanmade content, I could count on one hand. The general fan consensus at the time seemed to be “Who the hell is Cobalt” or “Eh, whatever,” which was a far cry from how it is now. But being horribly deprived back then, I did the only thing I could: I combed through the dub for every episode he was in, coming up with a whopping total of…..four (well technically five but in that one he’s literally only in the last five seconds with no animation or lines), and I watched them religiously. I could pretty much quote Cobalt’s debut episode by heart. (For the record I can no longer do this to the extent I used to, but should the opportunity arise, I can still quote large chunks of it).
As I did this and learned more about him in my desperate googling, I started developing jokes for what would become my first silly comics, for which I am known in this fandom for. The art and writing for these was….. painful, to say the least, so I don’t even like to think about it, but as I’d already had a decently sized following from drawing silly (read: bad) Sonic comics, they caught on decently well, and I’d even managed to drag my friend and son down with me into Cobalt Hell™. Together, we made a group for Cobalt fans on deviantart (which is still up, but I no longer run it, as I deactivated the account that modded it without transferring ownership, so now it’s likely a wild west hellscape that I’m a little scared to look at).
This seemed to help do the trick though, as Cobalt fans were slowly coming out of the woodwork and appreciating this good boy. On and off I’d spread my yelling about Cobalt (and my silly drawings) to different platforms like the Astro Boy forums and tumblr, and even as I got into different things, after awhile, things kinda grew without me. Now I’m not gonna be out here claiming I built this city myself with my own two hands, as a lot of people got dragged into this hell of their own accord, but I do like to think my, umm….passion at least helped generate some interest, and I can’t help but be proud of how far this fandom has come from “Who the hell is Cobalt” to “Look at this good boy, I love him” and literally all the other Cobalt fans I’ve met have been the coolest people (in general, not just because of their good taste).
I think what really changed my life though was when AprilSeven, a mod on the Astro Boy forum and also probably the original Cobalt fan, as she’d seen the 60s version back when it was originally airing, finally got a hold of the undubbed Japanese episodes, and graciously allowed me and a few of the other big-name Cobalt fans get in on that action, and boy howdy, the screenshots and plot summaries really did not do these episodes justice (at least in terms of Cobalt content). My understanding of him as a character expanded like tenfold, and my appreciation of him expanded even more than that.
…Which brings me into a nice segue in which I shift more into just exactly why I like Cobalt so much. Yes, there’s more. I warned y'all, this was gonna be a Pandora’s Box that could not be closed once it was opened.
I honestly just find him a joy to watch. A lot of what made him grow on me was just how funny he is. I’m a sucker for comic relief characters in general, and he has a personality that lends itself to comedy. In the anime version, he’s literally introduced right out the gate as being kind of a dingus. He’s naive, he’s way too trusting of obviously suspicious people, he’s easily confused, he’s easily distracted, he’s a klutz, and he just… regularly destroys the laws of physics and/or the fourth wall just because. Sometimes he also gets weird ideas in his head to do things that could have been done a completely different, easier way and weirdly enough, it actually kind of winds up working? It’s so fun to watch him approach problems because he’s just… so far out there sometimes.
But beyond being absolutely weird and hilarious, he’s just a really sweet kid. He doesn’t like to fight, he wants to make friends with everyone and everything, he will drop literally anything he’s doing, no matter how important it is, to help someone in need, he’s good with babies and small children and puppies (sometimes), he would fight (and sacrifice himself) for his family, and just means well even if he tends to bungle things up and make them worse sometimes. Honestly, and this is gonna sound dumb, but he helped me be a better person. I used to be an absolute asshole when I was younger, but once I’d gotten into Cobalt Hell™, I was like “I wanna be that sweet and good (but with a better sense of stranger danger)” and I made that effort and did that shit.
That being said though, he’s not perfect, and I wouldn’t want him to be. His flaws, though they kind of give him the short end of the stick in life, are a lot of why I find him so endearing. All the naivety and confusion and general lack of coordination I mentioned before aside, he’s honestly just really relatable. He’ll say jokes so bad that Uran wants to punch him, he’ll opt out of the plot because he doesn’t want to get out of bed, he’ll fight with his siblings over silly petty things, he’ll get frustrated if he tries something and it doesn’t go his way, he’ll absolutely partake in his siblings’ mischief (if not start it sometimes), and just so much more. He just feels like a kid you would know (or maybe a kid that you were at one point) and I really appreciate that about him.
Unfortunately, the canon was not kind to Cobalt, and I think a lot of that comes from Osamu Tezuka just… not knowing what to do with him after making him? Like in the manga, he was just kind of created as a really rushed contingency plan because they thought Astro was missing. Sure, he was taken in as part of the family afterward, but not many appearances later, he was killed off in a firey explosion… Until Tezuka decided to change his mind and let him live in the end. His grave’s still there though. He gets to see it. I know it’s a framing device to explain the circumstances of Cobalt’s retconned death but it’s kind of fucked up to let a boy see his own grave..
Even being brought back, Cobalt didn’t get to do very much. He’d get some good scenes with Uran, but a lot of the time, he was sort of just relegated to filling up space in the background, provided he actually survived til the end of the chapter. When he wasn’t getting forgotten by the plot and thusly zapped out of existence, he would wind up sacrificing himself in some way that wouldn’t allow him to continue to take part in the plot anymore (be it parts, energy, etc.) The most painfully egregious example of this is in the chapter “Youth Gas.” Astro and Cobalt are convinced to fight each other to the “death.” They’re not really dead, but Ochanomizu says they are and can’t be repaired. At first, there’s mourning for “two of the world’s greatest robots,” but then we see a funeral service in which only Astro’s body is shown and his parents are only mourning him, completely forgetting Cobalt exists. He’s never seen again for the rest of the chapter. Now I would assume this is just a writing mistake, but it really does make it look like Cobalt’s own parents wouldn’t even bat an eye if he died, so there’s that.
The anime isn’t quite as horrible, and it is kind enough to give Cobalt a more prominent role once he finally shows up (even getting a handful of focus episodes!), but he doesn’t go unscathed either. In this version, he has the misfortune of being created by Dr. Umataro “Father of the Year” Tenma before Astro was made and was scrapped because, to quote dub!Ochan, “his electronic brain wasn’t as perfect as Dr. [Tenma] wanted.” (read: he thought Cobalt was a dumbass). Cobalt is eventually found and brought into the family, but because he still winds up not being relevant to the plot a lot of the time, he is once again zapped out of the existence and looks like a victim of child neglect. As a result, he gets left out of family vacations and holidays, even in favor of Chi-tan, who is usually even higher on the scale of irrelevant Astro Boy characters. Unlike Astro, Cobalt doesn’t have any consistent friends to even remotely justify what he could possibly be doing offscreen by himself, so it just kind of implies a very sad and lonely existence in-universe.
And of course, the final, meta blow that literally every fan of Cobalt is still despairing about to this day: basically being yeeted out of the canon. After the 60s series, he disappeared off the face of the earth until 2015 when some lovely soul decided to bring him back for Peeping Life TV: Season 1?? (The question marks are part of the title). He’d be referenced again a couple years later in Atom: The Beginning, and will be here for the game Eshigami no Kizuna sometime in 2019 as a… moe anime girl. That’s a little weird, but I’m hoping these sorts of weird appearances will mean a trend toward putting him back in the canon (and hopefully being treated better).
It just hurts my heart to see such a good character get treated like this by canon. He deserves way better and it just seems really clear to me that Tezuka didn’t really know what to do with him. I feel like he has a lot of potential as a character, though. Regardless of what origin you pick for him, Cobalt is essentially existing as a worse version of Astro. I feel like you could have some good character development regarding how he would feel about himself in relation to Astro in sort of a parallel to how Astro might feel about himself in relation to Tobio, the person he was based off of. You could go some neat places with these sort of questions about identity and expectations, I think. Or if you want to just do something funny because your character arcs are getting too real now, you can just let Cobalt do some silly shit. He’s a versatile character!
I’ve done all this rambling and now I’m not really sure how to wrap all this up, so umm
Cobalt is a good boy and deserves better, please hire me Tezuka Productions, and thank you for coming to my TED Talk

@ask-zinny Had reblogged this and I thought about doing so too but since it was just a list of questions I thought I'd get them all out of the way in one go rather than having people send Asks for 'em x)
1: What hunting style/weapon do you main?
In 3U, it was almost exclusively the Longsword. I never really strayed from it.
In 4G, it was still largely the Longsword, but I also played around with the Gunlance, Charge Blade, and Insect Glaive.
MHX was again mostly the Longsword, but I'd fallen in love with the Charge Blade too.
I never used any of the arts/styles that MHX added and played it as if it were still MH4G ^^;
In Stories it's pretty much just the Sword-and-Shield.
2: What's your favorite armor set?
Jaggi Armor!
3: What's your hub rank?
MH3  -  1
MH4G  -  I forget, was either 3 or 4
MH4U  -  2 I think?
MHX  -  3
4: Coolest weapon?
Unno? DX
5: Favorite monster(s)?
Tough one, there's a lot of cool ones...  Agnaktor and Great Jaggi and Stygian Zinogre and Tigrex and others!  (Lagiacrus goes beyond being a “mere favorite” for me so...)
6: Favorite game in the series?
Stories!
7: First Monster Hunter game?
MH3U, despite MH4U being out at the time. I didn't have an English 3DS then but I did have a WiiU.
8: Any weapons you'd like to learn?
Not anymore, no.
9: Do you use a prowler much?
Only for gathering quests really.
10: Scariest monster to fight?
Anything was scary to me for the first time really.
11: What's something you wish the games had?
More stuff like the Everwood, I liked going out and messing around there in my freetime.
12: Best/worst name you've ever given a palico?
“Ham” and “Mittens”
13: Favorite area(s) to hunt in?
The Flooded Forest and the Everwood
14: If you could could crossover the series with anything else, what would it be?
Super Smash Bros + MonHun. Or MonHun Racing.  Saurian + MonHun (Play as the mon rehehehe~)
15: Opinion on fanmade monsters?
Don't really have one *shrugs*
16: Do you have any unpopular opinions?
I preferred playing the games solo rather than co-op xD
17: Would you recommend the games to anyone?
I do that at every opportunity I get!

Fables Radio: Meet the Cast (pt 3)
(written by showrunner Angela McCain, aka @darling-gypsum)
Hello, listeners! In anticipation of the release of Chapter 6, over the last few months, I’ve been highlighting the amazing voice actors who so generously offer their time and energy for this fan production. Just a small (and insufficient) thank you for their continued hard work and talent. And hopefully, some of our listeners will learn something new about our talented cast and continue to follow their careers!
Finally, in alphabetical order:
Griffin Puatu (Bluebeard)
Smooth and sophisticated and scary as all hell, Bluebeard has one of the coolest voices in the show. And that is all thanks to the absolutely fabulous Griffin Puatu. I felt so lucky to find such a talented actor for our ostensible series villain. He’s such an impressive range beyond the menacing lord Bluebeard, ex-legendary serial killer and patron of Fabletown. Please take a listen to his demo reel and feel in awe of this guy’s talent. He’s got a number of video game and media credits for you to take a look at! Thank you, Griffin, for joining us through this production journey, and for being a vital linchpin in our cast.

Nicholas Shapiro (Lord Beast (Beast), Taxi Driver)
Nick had a really tough job from the outset of this project: play the role of Lord Beast in mid-transformation. He needed to be just coherent enough for an entirely audio-based performance, but also sound like he had teeth that were too big for his mouth. And boy, he really knocked it out of the park! Nick was kind enough to lend his voice for a second minor but fun role last minute, which Iam very grateful for. His stint as the disgruntled sarcastic taxi driver still makes me chuckle when I hear it on re-listens. Thank you, Nick, for giving life and relatability to Lord Beast and being a really great scene partner.

 Olivia Steele (Briar Rose)
Oh, this lady’s voice! Olivia did a fabulous job portraying the equally fabulous Briar Rose, aka Sleeping Beauty. I envisioned this high society New York fashionista character, and Olivia really brought that to life. I am also not ashamed to admit that Olivia and Eric’s performances as Briar and Flycatcher fueled the flames of my love of that little ‘ship. They had wonderful ‘on screen’ chemistry, and sold the heck out of their characters enough that I was compelled to write more scenes for them! Olivia, you’re a gem. Thank you so much for being a part of our series and bringing power and candor to the role of Briar Rose.

 Melissa Sternenberg (Cindy)
I seriously just wanna be besties with Cindy. Her portrayal is playful, sharp tongued, and confident, and brings so much life to our cast. Of our trio of Prince Charming’s ex-wives, Cindy had some dramatic deviations from the text of the original comic. New scenes, shifted storylines, and pushing up the narrative a bit (for those familiar with the comics). And Melissa has been more than up to the task, with a great sense of comedic timing and grasp of her character. Melissa’s also got a number of professional video games and media credits to check out, which I highly recommend. Like so many of the cast, Melissa’s been really down for whatever my scripts threw at her. Whether it was sword fighting or witty banter, she brought such joy to one of my favorite characters in the show. Thank you for all your work, Melissa! The character of Cinderella, and our show as a whole, has been richer with you as a part of it.

 Cliff Thompson (Bigby Wolf)
The frickin’ holy grail. Very professional and kind, with a keen intuition for acting and delivery choices, enthusiasm for whatever the script is asking of him, and one of those voices that just settles into your brain as canon. Like, just listen to this guy! Cliff, you legit are the voice of Bigby Wolf forever in my brain. Thank you for taking on so much responsibility and a heck of a vocal workload on this fan project. You were instrumental in bringing this show to life and I will be forever grateful. It’s been a great pleasure working with you on Fables Radio, Sherriff.

Angela McCain (Lady Beauty, Mary, & Narrator, Etc)
Well, that’s a wrap on my cast profile pieces! Though I guess I should plug myself a little, since I’m in the cast as well.
By sheer virtue of being the showrunner, I often found the need to fill in for a number of characters who I either didn’t find the right VA fit for, or that I just plum forgot existed (see diner waitress, cell phone voicemail robot, etc). I’m peppered all over the series in little roles, as well as Beauty and Mary, in addition to being the narrator on the front and tail end of each episode. What started as a production necessity turned into a hobby, and I’ve really caught the VO and audiodrama bugs. Thank you to all our listeners and followers for your kind words and encouragement. Not sure if I’ll attempt anything more than amateur work, but I feel so fortunate to have had the experience I’ve had with Fables Radio. This was my very first audio and collaborative project on this scale, and to not only complete it, but to feel so proud and excited by it after over a full year seems to be a rarity in the amateur industry. I threw this little pet project into the ether, and discovered some amazing, generous, and talented people who I am humbled to call my cast and my peers. I am so excited to continue following their careers, and hopefully work with them on other projects in the future!
