i wouldn’t say the era of binge tv is the sole reason why right now, a lot of people seem to have issues with growth arcs and general patience re: letting a narrative unfold at its own pace, but i do think it’s a big piece of the puzzle
anyway i am lowkey constantly begging people to understand that a character undergoing a growth arc has to start from a place of needing that growth, which necessitates that their starting point is not Already Awesome In All The Ways, No Complaints Here.

So many people hate on ff13 and I'm baffled every time there's mentions of terrible writing and awful characters. I see those complaints parroted very often, yet I genuinely cannot comprehend what goes behind those opinions. It's so frustrating. I mean, everyone says the same thing; I can't help but think that maybe I'm the one that's missing something, that maybe the writing is indeed not good or that the characters aren't great either. I genuinely find the story really well crafted, especially when taking into account the depth that the datalogs hold, and the character arcs and relationships that are devoloped throughout the game are personally some of the best I've seen in gaming. I don't mind if ff13 isn't most people's cup of tea, that's fine. I just wish I could find someone that at the very least could explain their point of view in a respectful way instead of just calling the game trash.
I know right 😭 it's one thing if someone were to dislike the characters/story for how they're actually written, but the vast majority of people who I've seen complain are so insanely off the mark that it makes me wonder if they're deliberately missing the point just to have something to bitch about
Like it genuinely irks me just how much ff13 is shat on TO THIS DAY when so many of the complaints are just plain wrong to anyone who actually payed attention to the game!!! Again, personal opinion is fine and all, but the fact that the western ff fanbase has all but ruined 13's reputation over nothing is beyond frustrating to me
The only explanation I have for it is that the people who whine about 13 to that extent either didn't finish the game or didn't bother to pay attention to how the story developed, but even then I'm lost because why wouldn't they give 13 the same chance as any other ff game? Did they not expect much because of its reputation? Was the linearity really that blasphemous to them? Is it because of how differently it handles female characters compared to earlier games? Is it because the game doesn't spoonfeed information to the player outside of the datalogs? Would be great if someone could actually explain it properly for once lol

the thing about ofmd is that while the premise is a bit silly, while the casing of the show is very much "goofy gay pirates do pirate things," the heart of the show is for sure its extremely solid, realistic characters. while you might not relate to every single one, it is undeniable that they are all painfully human. and because all of the characters have this weight to them in their own right, it makes the relationships that they form all the more compelling. i lost so much sleep last night and i imagine i will continue losing sleep over, for example, izzy's arc this season and his relationship with ed. and there are no words that will do justice to how devastating it is to watch izzy's whole life (because ed or blackbeard was his whole life) crumble around him, to watch him fray and realise that the relationship he dedicated his fucking life to never existed in the first place. at least not to ed, not in the same way. and the question of whether or not izzy is "a good person" or whether he "deserves it" miss the mark so incredibly, it doesn't matter. this is a man in pain. a person. a person going through shit that people go through and he's struggling, he's lashing out, and he's grasping at straws, like we all do at some point. it's fucking heartbreaking.
and i can't say much more on the topic, because just... look.
just look at him.

Something something the faz-pad probably has the worst tea known to man, and gregory asks Freddy to try it after finding out he's got the soul of a British person, and the tea is so bad it makes Freddy temporarily slip into a British Accent or smth (idk he's probably got.....taste....receptors???)

okay, here's the thing about the loki series that I came to the conclusion to a few days ago. If you want a series that explores the aftermath of the Avengers in any meaningful way (or Loki's past actions), then the series isn't for you. Unfortunately, given the timeline that they presented us with, most people who watched the show thought it would be about that (myself included). As s2e5 has shown us though, the Loki series isn't really about Loki. It's about Loki and his relationship with the characters from the TVA, mainly Mobius. If you have no interest in the two, then the show doesn't work and is extremely boring.
Unfortunately, unlike other TV series and movies, the series didn't really delve into Loki's psychology. Moon Knight had an entire episode dedicated to Marc/Steven, so did WandaVision. I think that when a series doesn't have that background dig on a character, that the audience is actually really, deeply unhappy with it. The same thing happened with the Falcon and Winter Solider that has with Loki. The audience doesn't care. Secret Invasion had the same problem. Like the plot is happening, but that's not the point. No one cares about the plot, its' just a nice back drop. We want the psychology dig. I just don't see us getting that in episode 6, though.
One of the things I was personally hoping would happen in episode 5 is that Loki would do more timeline jumping, but timeline jumping on his timeline, not gathering the TVA. I wasn't unhappy with it, but I was disappointed because I wanted to see what they could do with it. I wanted the psychology dig. But again, the Loki series isn't about Loki. It's about Loki and his relationship to the TVA.

Armorer: Bo-Katan Kryze you are redeemed and accepted into our covert.
Bo-Katan: But I didn’t swear your creed.
Armorer: I know. But you have still given us a boon and helped one of ours. You don’t have to swear it, but you’re welcomed here.
Two episodes later
Armorer: Bo-Katan. Remove your helmet.
Bo-Katan: Um??
Armorer: You can walk both ways to reunite our people and bring them back to follow all paths together.
Bo-Katan: lol that’s a terrifying request thanks.
‘Fans’: Why did Bo get to take her helmet off but Din is apostate if he does??
Me: bitch did you not just hear them??? He swore the creed and she didn’t. Armorer is trying to use loopholes to keep Bo without forcing her to swear so they can join everyone. She. Didn’t. Swear. Their. Creed.
