Netflix is rolling out its new system to crack down on password sharing in Canada, one that will see customers who share their accounts across multiple locations pay an extra $8 a month.
The streaming giant says it will begin notifying Canadian users today by email about limitations on who can access their account outside their household.
In Canada, the new rules are as follows: An ad-supported plan that can be used by one person on one device in one location will cost $5.99 a month.
The same basic plan without ads will cost $9.99 a month.
Under what the company calls its "standard" plan for $16.99 a month, a user can watch on two devices at the same time, but they must be in the same physical location. If they want to watch in different locations — at a parent's home and a college-aged child's dorm room, for example, or between two members of a couple who live apart — there will be an extra fee of $7.99 a month.
The standard plan will be limited to one additional user. [...]
When Netflix launched in Canada in 2010, it cost $7.99 a month and had no formal limitations on the number of devices on the same account, although its selection of titles was much more limited than what was available in other countries for the same price. [...]
Netflix did not say when it would begin enforcing the new rules, but in its most recent earnings report it said it planned to roll out the new rules worldwide some time before the end of March.
"Over the last year, we've been exploring different approaches to address this issue in Latin America, and we're now ready to roll them out more broadly in the coming months, starting today in Canada, New Zealand, Portugal and Spain," the company said.
Once the system is in place, customers will have to set their "primary location" for their devices but they will be able to "still easily watch Netflix on their personal devices or log into a new TV, like at a hotel or holiday rental." [...]

Netflix Picks Up Starz Series ‘Black Sails’ From January 2024
Tumblr media
Netflix will be starting the New Year off strong with the news coming today that the streaming service US will be picking up multiple seasons of the Starz Original series Black Sails from January 1st, 2023.
From executive producer Michael Bay, Black Sails is the historical drama series that serves as a prequel set 20 years prior to the beloved 1883 novel Treasure Island. It ran on Starz as an Original series for four seasons across 38 episodes between 2014 and 2017.
The series scored 3 Primetime Emmy wins throughout its runtime and remains a hit among fans with it currently carrying an impressive 8.2 on IMDb. If you haven’t seen it, it’s a mix of One Piece for its slavish ships and sets mixed with the historical drama and action of The Last Kingdom.
Amongst the vast ensemble cast for the show featured Toby Stephens, Hannah New, Luke Arnold, Jessica Parker Kennedy, Tom Hopper, Toby Schmitz, and many more.
When will Black Sails be on Netflix?
Multiple seasons will be coming to Netflix US on January 1st, 2024. The exact number of seasons coming to the service hasn’t been confirmed, but we suspect it’ll be all four.
The show is expected to continue to reside on the Starz streaming service.
We haven’t found any other Netflix regions scheduled to get the show. We also checked Netflix in the UK and Canada, but they’re not expected to arrive in either. That’s not to say this couldn’t be licensed to others down the road, however.
Tumblr media
For more on what’s coming to Netflix in the United States throughout January 2024, keep it locked here on What’s on Netflix.
Netflix in the US doesn’t have access to many Starz titles like it used to. Netflix US has previously held titles like Ash Vs. Evil Dead and Spartacus, while Netflix internationally carried Power. One significant exception is Outlander (although that’s licensed from Sony Pictures Television), with new seasons coming two years after their original air date. Season 6 of Outlander is due to release in 2024.

It ain’t over ‘til it’s over |part 5 charles leclerc x singer!reader
Warnings: wrong English grammar
In which charles and y/n have always known each other, but not everything goes as planned
part one| part two| part three| part four
Some moments of charles and y/n
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
- Wait, wait... let me get your gift - charles asks, getting out of bed carefully so as not to spill the coffee on the bed prepared by him.
I watch him coming out the bedroom door very excited, I smile with the scene in front of me. Charles always loved celebrations, no matter what it was, he would dedicate himself to everything being perfect for the one he loved. Charles comes back, a big box in his hand and a smile on his face.
- It's a very big gift - I analyze it, take the tray off the bed and put it on the bedside table so as not to drop anything.
- Yes - he says excitedly handing me the huge box with a pink bow.
I face him, his eyes are anxious waiting for my reaction, I reach his lips in a kiss and then I open the box. Inside it is the most beautiful guitar, the one I had seen one day with Charles while we were walking the streets of the city.
- Oh my God!!! - I start laughing excitedly- I can't believe it! She's so perfect, you're perfect! Thank you, thank you, thank you!
- You deserve it, mon coeur! - charles laughs as I throw myself on him, hugging and kissing him. - the most beautiful guitar for my beautiful girlfriend.
- So Netflix is with you today? - I ask Charles as he joins me and the camera team follows us.
-Yes, amour... - he smiles and I greet the team.
- You should have warned me, I could have prepared your child photos - I play with him and Charles escapes a nervous giggle.
- Oh no, angel... we don't need that.
We keep walking through the paddock, we are in Canada for the grand prix. We can listen to the fans the closer we get to the parking lot to get out, we waited a few minutes, charles taking pictures and signing autographs, some fans call me too. Pierre joins our group and soon we are going to the car.
- I'm their driver - I talk looking at the cameras laughing as I get in the car. - pierre hates it when I drive.
- Because I care about my life - he murmurs exasperated.
- She's a perfect driver, don't talk like that - Charles defends me sitting next to me in the passenger seat. - I taught her after all...
- Could you give me a little attention? - Charles whispers in my ear.
- Amour, we're late to go out with your friends... - I'm talking while arranging the beach bag for us.
- Let's stay, I want to stay with you here. - he murmurs, hugging me harder and I'm laughing.
- Oh dear, I love you. - i kiss him lightly on the lips. - but you had arranged with them
- And I can cancel - he says.
- And what do you want to do then? - I ask, getting even deeper into his hug.
- Hug, stay with you, I want to be with you- he responds while spreading kisses on me.
- Let them know - I answer by giving up on resisting Charles' requests.
- I've never been so happy in my life... - he smiles pulling me to bed with him and holding me in his arms tightly. - I could spend my whole life like this with you!
- Cherie, did you see my suitcase with my clothes? - I hear Charles asking about the other room and I stop in front of the mirror.
- What clothes? - I ask trying not to seem suspicious, and I hear the feet of charles running down the corridor, I slowly turn around wanting to disappear.
- Cherie... - charles laughs seeing me in front of you, huge running jumpsuit on my body and your helmet on my head. - What are you doing?
- I wanted to see if I would look like you - I speak by lifting the visor of the helmet. - What did you think?
- You look like a beautiful drive, love. But you made me look for my things like crazy. - he laughs approaching me and hugging me. - very beautiful!
I start laughing, and I show him my clothes, Charles starts laughing and then pulls me back into his arms, he takes the helmet off my head and then gives me a passionate kiss.
- You look even more perfect in Ferrari.
- Every time I see fast and furious I remember you - I comment lying on Charles' lap while the movie is on TV
- Why? - he asks laughing.
- Your job is to bet race on the street, Charles. That's pretty obvious! - I comment laughing.
- I run in formula one, I don't bet race dear.
- I still don't see any difference, dear! - I murmur and Charles still laughs in shock - but if it makes you feel better, you would definitely beat Toretto.
- Do you think so? - He laughs tickling me.
- Absolutely! You're the best, Charlie!
Please leave your suggestions and comments, it would be great to have your opinion ❤️

Brit here and there was DEFINITELY Press just before Meghan and Harry married saying that in future William & Kate would focus more on the UK as heirs to the throne and that Harry & Meghan would 'get' the Commonwealth. I remember thinking it a good idea at the time (when I still liked Meghan). William & Kate wouldn't have to travel so much with their young family; it would allow the BRF to provide 'coverage' of both UK & Commonwealth; it would give Harry (who so famously loved Africa etc.) a proper job and of course Meghan's bi-racial heritage was seen as a massive advantage. Everything points to this being official BRF policy rather than M&H PR. They were given their meaningful Commonwealth titles, Meghan was told enough about the role to have the Commonwealth flowers on her veil, there is a documentary about the Queen and the Commonwealth where Meghan is highlighted (K&W are absent) and they were sent almost immediately to Australia and New Zealand. They may also have been told that the Duchy of Cornwall would fund them on these tours. This is my theory about what happened next.
As we now know that tour was a disaster behind the scenes due to Meghan's attitude. My take is that they were soundly chastised and given one last chance to prove themselves with the South Africa tour. This was also a bit of a disaster, culminating in Meghan's tearful interview. I believe they were then told they were a diplomatic disaster and not ready to take on the Commonwealth. It's about this time that there was a lot of Press about them moving to Africa or elsewhere in the Commonwealth for a long stint and to focus on their young family. I believe this was the BRF's plan to give Meghan a chance to ease into royalling and keep the Commonwealth connection before coming back at a later date. It was at this time that Megxit was planned. Meghan had been told in no uncertain terms that she wasn't as good as Kate (who had stepped perfectly into the royal role almost immediately). I think Harry tried initially to stick to the script with the move to Canada but Meghan was having none of it and made the move to LA. I think it's significant that their final planned engagements included the Commonwealth Day service (this was probably why they got so stroppy about their diminished roles there). After it became obvious after Megxit that they wouldn't be getting their roles back, M&H went scorched earth and wanted to destroy any possible Commonwealth roles for the rest of the family. That's why they went all out to scupper the Caribbean tour, wove all their vague racist allegations about the entire family, followed by more substantive subsequent allegations about Kate and Charles (who could be expected to take on the bulk of Commonwealth roles going forward) and dissed the C'wealth in 'Spare'. TL:DR this whole sorry saga is Meghan's revenge for being told she and Harry weren't good enough for the Commonwealth roles planned for them.
Allegedly the Sussexes were sent on vacation after Remembrance Day 2019 because “it” wasn’t going well and upsetting a lot of people.
(Speculation for “it”: the South Africa tour being a PR disaster and the “no one asked me if I’m ok” interview, both of which overshadowed Charles’ trips and the Cambridges’ Pakistan trip; general bullying/rude behaviors; BP finding out about negotiations with Quibi, Netflix, and Oprah; complaints from Frogmore neighbors; issues with The SussexRoyal Foundation relating to financials and/or how it was set up (Bower talks a bit about this in Revenge); and having cameras for their event at the Field of Remembrance in Nov 2019 (Camilla was supposed to join them but she bowed out at the last second and Meghan was overly glam with her makeup for the event).)
So allegedly after the Remembrance Day 2019 events concluded, the Sussexes were sent to Canada on holiday for a punishment and then the Sussexes, furious about being sidelined, devised their Megxit plans.
And also allegedly, Harry and Meghan didn’t expect the hard “no” they got from The Queen. They thought they’d be able to present it at fait accompli since they were both so fully delusional over the strength of Meghan’s race card and Harry’s “status” as The Favorite.
Regarding the Queen of the World documentary that highlighted Meghan, allegedly she completely took it over. She wasn’t supposed to feature as much as she did. And allegedly, Meghan bailed on an artsy engagement with Charles that she had already committed to to film and “direct” the documentary.

Daniel Ricciardo: Castles Crumbling
Revisionism and recency bias are perhaps two of the most common things that you'll see in Formula 1 and discussions of how we view drivers. It all goes back to the saying "You're only as good as your last race." This, while true in some sense, is only part of the picture when it comes to a driver and the legacy they'll leave in the sport. One race does not define a driver, just as a small portion of a driver's career does not define the driver.
But in commentary and fan discussions, we continue to see that revisionism and recency bias continue to define driver's careers on everchanging standards.
This season, the argument would be that that Carlos Sainz is a better driver than Charles Leclerc due to any of the following reasons:
He's won a race this year
Ahead in the points
Consistently finishing races in the points
But looking at their careers as a whole, the argument falls apart.
Another case of this is Lewis Hamilton in 2022. He finished behind his teammate in the points, didn't win a race, etc. And that year alone had people questioning if Lewis Hamilton was washed or if he should retire. But again, looking at the career as a whole and not zeroing in on one piece of it, makes the argument fall apart.
A driver's legacy isn't based solely on a piece of their career. Alex Albon's career isn't going to be defined just by the Red Bull years, nor is Pierre Gasly's. Sebastian Vettel's career isn't just defined by his time in Ferrari or Red Bull or Aston Martin. Nor is Carlos Sainz's career going to be defined by his time in one team.
However, when it comes to Daniel Ricciardo, the revisionism and hate is strong. Especially in fan spaces like Twitter.
The two years at McLaren are by many considered to be a definer of Daniel's career, completely ignoring or disregarding what he was able to do in Red Bull and Renault.
In one instance he's a PR merchant, in another he can't draw a crowd.
He gets the car to Q3, qualifies 4th, and spends the whole weekend in 10th -> well then people will say it's the car.
Both he and his teammate don't make it out of Q1 with about .006 separating them -> well then obviously the driver and not the car on that specific track
Castles Crumbling is a song that inherently fits the change in the narrative around Daniel. The premise of Castles Crumbling is your legacy falling apart and no longer being loved by people who were once fans. This is a defining feature of Daniel Ricciardo's public perception in recent years as everything he does is defined by the McLaren stint.
Once, I had an empire in a golden age
I was held up so high, I used to be great
They used to cheer when they saw my face
Now, I fear I have fallen from grace
Once, I was the great hope for a dynasty
Crowds would hang on my words, and they trusted me
Their faith was strong, but I pushed it too far
I held that grudge 'til it tore me apart
Despite what people perpetuate now, coming into McLaren, Daniel was highly regarded and considered a great driver. He was THAT guy.
Netflix's Drive to Survive did a lot in helping Daniel transcend from the normal bounds of an F1 driver. He was the first one to be fully on board and give them so much access to him, his thoughts, and his life. A move that wasn't reciprocated by other drivers, so in that first season, it was all about him from start to end basically. He also had the personality to match.
But even before that, Daniel has been the the guy. Just look at any number of grown men that have taken his sweaty race boots and drunk champagne out of them.
Gerard Butler (USA 2016)
Christian Horner (Malaysia 2016)
Max Verstappen (Malaysia 2016)
Nico Rosberg (Malaysia 2016)
Mark Webber (Germany 2016)
Lance Stroll (Baku 2017)
Sir Patrick Stewart (Canada 2017)
Martin Brundle (Austria 2017)
Adrian Newey (Monaco 2018)
Lewis Hamilton (Imola 2020)
Zak Brown (Monza 2021)
Lando Norris (Monza 2021)
Any number of Red Bull staff over the years
People all around the paddock
Some happily, some with pure disgust, others taking the shoes right off Daniel's feet for a shoey.
Daniel at Silverstone in 2017: "DC took my shoes off and then in Austria, Martin was frothing for it."
Daniel wasn't just his personality as so many would like to say. The racing was there.
In 2014, Daniel came into Red Bull and beat his four-time world champion teammate. He was Red Bull's only race winner that year with three wins. During his first year with Red Bull, Daniel finished third in the championship, just behind the two Mercedes.
Once more in 2016, Daniel finished third in the championship, just behind the two Mercedes. His only win of the year was Malaysia 2016 and with it came the iconic podium of Daniel, Max, Nico, and Christian all taking turns to drink out of the same race shoe.
Nico Rosberg in 2023, talked about his time racing against Daniel in 2016 and said:
"He's such an awesome personality, one of the best wheel-to-wheel racers out there. If I saw in my rear-view mirrors, [Ricciardo] was one of the last guys I would like to see there at the time, with Max Verstappen."
2018 for Daniel was filled with reliability issues and engine problems. Out of the 21 races that year, Daniel retired in 8 of them. He had two wins that year - China and Monaco.
Going into Renault, Formula 1 World Champion and Renault Advisor, Alain Prost, called Daniel worth every penny that the Renault would be paying him
"Daniel is more expensive than other drivers. When you need that to help the team we did it. Money is not a problem but it has to be justified. We have two top drivers, maybe one of the best lineups in F1 today."
With Renault, people forget that 2020 was one of his best years. While he didn't win any races, Daniel did have two podiums. He gave Renault their first podium in about nine years. Additionally, Daniel finished 5th in the championship, higher than anyone would have expected out of the unreliable Renault. He was doing wonders with that car.
Going into McLaren, Daniel was a highly valued asset. And while many like to say he went to McLaren for the money, salary estimates show that going to McLaren was actually a significant pay cut.
Tumblr media
With an approximately $22 million pay cut in cash earnings, the move to McLaren cannot be defined as a cash grab. Doing something for the money doesn't usually mean lowering your value by millions.
My foes and friends watch my reign end
I don't know how it could've ended this way
Smoke billows from my ships in the harbor
People look at me like I'm a monster
Now they're screaming at the palace front gates, used to chant my name
Now they're screaming that they hate me
Never wanted you to hate me
So how did we get from being a highly valued driver to endless public hate by fans?
Well revisionism and recency bias.
Daniel’s time with McLaren was admittedly very bad.
(sidenote: Dropping Daniel was the best thing that McLaren could have done for all parties involved. No one can deny that, but how McLaren and Zak Brown conducted themselves was wrong. Say what you will about Red Bull's ruthlessness; Red Bull is upfront about it, and they don't drag the driver around making apologies or videos promising to try harder and signing another driver while doing all that.)
The car and driver did not mesh. But what most people tend to ignore is that the car design was inherently difficult to drive. It was unpredictable. One could argue that Lando was performing well in the car., but Lando has only driven a McLaren. Whereas Daniel's driven an HRT, Toro Rosso, Red Bull, and a Renault. Instead of helping Daniel with the learning curve or setting the car up in a manner that aligned with his driving style, Daniel had to change how he drove.
With all the McLaren struggles, people have chosen to focus on just that phase. Completely ignoring that Daniel was doing wonders with the Red Bull when the car wasn't great and he was doing wonders with the Renault.
Daniel's time post-Red Bull was not all bad and certainly not deserving of the vitriol and hate he receives when there are other drivers who have much less to show for on the grid.
He got two podiums with Renault in 2020 -- the first podiums that Renault had gotten in years. He was 5th in the standings.
And let's not forget that Daniel got McLaren its only win since 2012. Maybe you can say that the only reason Daniel won is due to the Max and Lewis crash or that Lando was told to stay behind. However, Daniel overtook Max at the start while Lando lost a position to Lewis. Daniel had been the one to take his shot when it mattered. As for the team orders to hold position, well Daniel could have gone faster if he wanted to as we can see with him pulling out the fastest lap on the final lap.
(A random thought that came to me during the research for this: do we think Christian Horner wants a Daniel-related tattoo as well and hates that Cyril and Zak have Daniel-related tattoos? Because if I was in Christian's position, I would want that tattoo. Like you put all this time and investment into a driver and then two other team principals that either took him away from you or couldn't get the most out of him have tattoos chosen by Daniel.)

Screenwriters in 35 countries across the globe are staging a public show of support for their counterparts involved in the Writers Guild of America (WGA) strike.
"Screenwriters Everywhere: International Day of Solidarity," a global event scheduled to take place on June 14 in nations as diverse as Bulgaria and South Korea, includes rallies, social media campaigns and picketing outside local Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) member offices.
The Federation of Screenwriters in Europe (FSE), International Affiliation of Writers Guilds (IAWG), and UNI Global Union (UNI-MEI) worked together to organize the actions. Combined, these organizations represent around 67,000 film and TV writers worldwide.
Tumblr media
"The members of the IAWG, made up of Guilds from Europe, America, Canada, India, Africa, Korea, New Zealand and Israel, stand in solidarity with our sister Guilds in America," said IAWG Chair, Thomas McLaughlin, in a statement shared with NPR. "The companies that seek to exploit and diminish writers are global, our response is global, and the victory gained in America will be a victory for screenwriters everywhere." ...
With companies like Netflix, Amazon and Disney operating in many countries around the globe, the "International Day of Solidarity" comes amid fears that writers outside the U.S., where production continues, could potentially steal jobs from striking WGA members over here.
But many international writers guilds have issued guidelines to their members over the past few weeks about steering clear of jobs that ordinarily would go to WGA members.
"We've put the message out to our members that if an American producer knocks on your door and says, 'We need a European writer,' while it's incredibly tempting, we are really strongly recommending that our members do not do that because they will get blacklisted by the WGA and it would be viewed very much as breaking the strike," said Jennifer Davidson, chair of the Writers Guild of Ireland (WGI), in an interview with NPR.

"I really hope so pt. 2"
Tumblr media
*so glad you guys enjoyed the last part. here is part 2, hopefully you like it as much as I liked writing it. also sorry for the love interest change. I promise I'll give Mat his moment soon*
word count: 3,780
Running outside to my car, I got completely soaked. It seemed like the rain didn’t want me to feel alone so the sky cried with me. I thought about going home, but with the downpour and my teary vision, I settled for the next best thing. I pulled up to Tito’s house and sat in the car. I sat there for a few minutes finally taking in what all happened tonight. My phone buzzing brought me out of my thoughts. I try and clear my throat to make it seem like I hadn’t been crying, “Hey T. What’s up?” I hear shuffling from the phone,” Oh nothing much just wondering how long you were gonna sit in the car?” I look up and see him through the now-open door.
I make my way to him and he wraps a towel around me. “It’s warm,” I smile enjoying the warmth compared to the chilling rain outside. “I put it in the dryer when I saw you sitting in the car,” he says leading me inside and stopping when we get to the living room. He goes to his room and comes back with a pair of boxers and an old sweatshirt. I give him a small smile and head to his bathroom. My mind hasn’t stopped since I left Mat’s place. Was this how he felt a few weeks ago, heartbroken and needing a friend.
I left my wet clothes on the floor in his bathroom and wiped off what little makeup I had worn today of. I sighed as I looked at myself in the mirror. Unlike Mat when he showed up all wet and sad, I looked like a total mess. My eyes traveled down to the sweatshirt and I immediately let out a small smile. His Team Canada sweatshirt was the one thing he never let anyone borrow. I had seen people try and he always gives them another one.
I slowly walk back into the living room and see him setting up the couch. “What are you doing,” I laugh seeing him fuss over a blanket. His head snapped up and he opened his mouth to speak but no words came out. His shocked expression turned soft almost instantly. “Uhm when I was sad when I was younger Francis would build a blanket fort in the living room. I thought maybe it would help you too, but you probably think it’s stupid right? Of course, it is. You are a grown woman why the hell would a fort make you feel better,” he rambles trying to tear it down.
“Don’t you dare mess that up! Tito this was really sweet. It means a lot to me okay, even more now that I know why you made it,” I say grabbing his hand and pulling it away from the blankets. He lets out a deep breath and nods. I shake my head and laugh at him. “Okay, where do you need me, boss,” I say turning and looking up at him. He looks over and pauses, staring intensely at my face, and then instructs me to grab pillows from his room. After a couple mishaps, we finally had a stable enough fort.
“I see why Francis made these as kids, you suck at them,” I joke poking his side once we get settled in. “You take that back,” he acts offended by my moment, but his eyes show that he really isn’t. “Never,” I laugh leaning over him and opening the Netflix app on his laptop. “Okay, so what do you wanna watch,” I ask looking up at him. He shrugs his shoulder,” I don’t care what you pick.” I give him a weird look. “What was that for,” he asks smoothing down the wrinkles I made in my forehead.
I let out a small laugh because it tickled. “I don’t know, it’s just I never pick,” I shrug scrolling through. “Wait in all the years you and Mat have been friends, you have never picked something for you to watch,” he asks sitting up looking over at me. “Nope. He always made fun of what I picked, even if it was in a joking way. I just thought it was easier if he picked,” I say still scrolling. “You should just pick because I’ll probably pick something stupid and take forever,” I say pushing the laptop towards him. He shakes his head and pushes it back. “Not happening. We are going to sit here and watch whatever you pick. If it’s something you like you shouldn’t be embarrassed by it. I’m sure I’ll like whatever it is.”
His words kind of stunned me for a second. I shake them off, not trying to think too far into things and finally click some Adam Sandler movie. I look over at him and he is smiling. “See I told you it would be good,” he bumped my shoulder with his. I roll my eyes and lean back into the bottom of the couch. He quickly follows and throws a blanket over our legs. After two movies, we both fell asleep in the fort. I did first and Tito was too scared to move so he slept in a very uncomfortable position.
The next week almost every night I spent over at Tito’s place. We slowly started to create a small routine. It was kind of weird how normal it felt. We were always close friends, but I thought that was because of Mat. I was quickly learning that wasn’t the case, we weren’t friends because of Mat. We were friends. Period. That is the whole sentence.
“Hey I have a question for you,” I hear his voice over the phone. I had come back home giving him a break from playing therapist. “Hey, I may have an answer,” I say back. I can almost hear his eye roll. “So you remember how I said I didn’t have a date for that fundraiser gala next month,” he says causing me to think back. “Yeah, I think so,” I reply wondering why he was bringing this up. “Well, I want a date because I knew I could make an appearance and then leave. Well, apparently we have to stay the whole night. And I am going to be bored out of my mind. So I was wondering if you would want to come with me,” he says almost sounding nervous. “Tito, do you want me to go with you,” I ask smiling at him. “Y/n. Don’t tease me okay. I just thought you would make the night more bearable,” he sighs.
Suddenly I feel bad for teasing him. He had been so good to me these past few weeks and I really did owe him big time. “I would be honored to be your date, T,” I say with full sincerity. I hear a small yes and then something falling onto the ground. “I’m okay,” he says quickly. I can’t hold back my laughter and his dorky self knocking something over in excitement because I said yes.
The more time we had been spending together, the less I thought about my feelings for Mat. Of course, a small part of me was still sad over the whole thing, but for the most part, I was fine. It was so strange how I thought my whole world would end if Mat didn’t feel the same way, but it was still very much intact. “Just send me what you are wearing and I’ll match it okay,” he said. “Aw. It’s kind of like prom,” I say lightly picking on him. “Shut up,” he grumbles. We talked for a little more and then hung up since he had an early morning practice.
The next morning I woke up to a text from him saying he wanted to treat me to lunch for helping him out. I reassured him it was no big deal and he didn’t have to do this. But if I knew one thing it was that Anthony Beauvillier was stubborn and once his mind was made up that was it. I threw on some leggings and his team Canada sweatshirt I still hadn’t given back and hopped into my Uber. I had been to the arena so many times with Mat that he got me a badge to get in and out with.
I show it off to Ernie, the security guard, and he smiles and sends me on my way. I wander through the halls and follow the noise of yelling and skates scooting over the ice. I find a spot in the stands out of the way and watch the guys practice. I find Tito easily and he looks up and sends me a confused look. I shrug my shoulders and smile. He continues practicing and my eyes drift over to the movement on my right side.
“Hey girly,” I hear her sickeningly sweet voice and wonder is it too late to run. I turn and look up sending a small smile her way. “Hi. How are you,” I ask confused when she pulls me in for a hug. “Listen I heard you okay. So I want you to hear me, Mat is mine even when he hasn’t got it,” she whispered into my ear during the hug. I pulled back and went to say something but the guys were walking our way. They both send each other a look and speed up their walking. “Everything good over here,” Tito asks with caution. He knew all the nasty things she had said to me over the years. “Oh yeah for sure. Just catching up really,” I say in the fakest voice I can. Every one of us knows that it is fake but we all pass right over it.
“Hi Matty,” she smiles up at him pulling him into a deep kiss. I look up at Tito who is trying so hard not to laugh at the obvious jealousy. When he finally looks my way I can’t hold it in any longer. I turn and tuck my face into his chest and let out a laugh. They break away rather quickly after that. “Something funny,” her voice sounded like it was laced with venom. “Oh no sorry. Didn’t mean to interrupt, whatever that was. I was just making a stupid face and she laughed. Right Y/n,” he pulled me out of his chest and sent me a wink. I couldn’t help the small dusting of blush that came onto my face.
“Right. You know him and his stupid faces,” I smile back at the couple. For the first time, I meet Mat’s stare. “Great practice Barzy, you really gave them a run for their money,” I smile genuinely. I didn’t hate Mat, in all honesty, I did miss his friendship. “Thanks, Y/n,” he says sending a small smile my way. “So how long has this been a thing,” she asks referring to Tito and I who were still standing close to each other. “It’s not a thing. Just two friends here,” Tito says resting his arm on my head. I elbow him in his open side and he groans. I stick my tongue out at him. “Oh well you know, I’ve heard that one before,” she looks straight at me when she says it.
Mat went to say something but Tito beat him to it,” well we better get going. We both know how hangry this one gets if she isn’t fed.” Normally I would give him a dirty look, but I would go along with anything to get out of this conversation. “Bye, guys. Hope you have a really good night,” I say honestly turning and locking arms with Tito and heading to his car. “We will,” she calls out, just having to have the last word.
“I would never put my hands on a woman but oh my gosh that girl is just plain nasty,” he groans walking over to my side of the car opening it for me, and then chuncking his bag in the back. I laugh as he gets in and starts the car. “She’s not worth it T,” I say flipping through the stations and finally settling on one I liked. “I don’t know how you haven’t slapped her yet,” he laughs heading to get something to eat. “Because only one of us in this car looks good in orange, and it sure as hell isn’t me,” I joke looking over at him.
He blushed and cleared his throat. “So where do you wanna eat,” he asks trying to change the subject. “Oh, no sir. We are not skipping over this. Is that blush on your face? Did I make the Anthony Beauvilliern blush,” I reach over and put my hand on his cheek. “Whatever,” he laughs grabbing my hand and pulling it away from his face. I don’t know what made me do this, but I laced our fingers together and rested them on my leg. It’s a good thing we were at a redlight because I’m pretty sure he would have crashed the car.
In the next two weeks leading up to the gala things slowly started changing between us. Not in a bad way, but in a very unexpected way. I found myself laughing a little harder at his jokes, spending more time in his clothes than mine, and making an excuse to just be near him. Apart of me was beginning to have feelings for him, but another part was scared. The last time that happened didn’t end too well for me. And I didn’t want him to think I was taking advantage of his friendship. I had two options; hide my feelings like last time or do something about them. Each one of them scared me.
Rapid knocks filled my house as I tried to put on my dress. “Oh my gosh, I’m coming,” I yell and run into the door holding the dress together. “It’s about time. Your neighbor was giving me the weirdest,” his words stopped when he looked in at me. I was thankful for the makeup I had already done because the way he was smiling at me made my face warm. “Sorry this stupid zipper is giving me hell,” I say making my way back to the hallway mirror, turning around and trying to reach it.
“Here let me,” he says softly and I turn around facing the mirror. I watch his face filled with concentration. It was sweet how gentle he was trying to be. His fingers brushed up my spine as he pulled the zipper up with ease. He stopped at the top and looked into the mirror locking eyes with me. “There you go,” he whispers. I clear my throat and smile at him. Turning around I stand on my tiptoes and place a quick kiss to his cheek. “Thanks. Give me three seconds to put on my shoes and we can go,” I smile at the frozen man in the hallway.
The event was boring by any means, it was for a really good cause. But I would rather have another conversation with Mat and his girlfriend than sit at this table and listen to this guy ramble on and on. I try not to seem rude and pretend interest but I am failing miserably. “I’m so sorry Hank. Would you mind if I stole her for two seconds,” Sydney Martin wraps her hand around my wrist and drags me over to a smaller table with some of the guy’s wives.
“I could kiss you right now,” I say deflating throwing my head onto the table. The girls laugh and Syd rubs my back on the open part of my dress. “Hank is a great guy but man is he boring,” we all laugh sharing stories about the sweet older man. I do a quick scan of the room and see Tito standing with Sydney’s husband Matt. He looks my way and I make a face at him. He laughs into his cup trying to pay attention to what Anders is going on about. “You guys are cute,” Syd leans down and says to just me. I smile at her and look back towards him. We make eye contact and I send him a wink. He starts choking on his drink.
Sydney and I try to contain our laughter but we sound like two hyenas. I finally stop and try to breathe when I see Mat walk in arm in-arm with his girlfriend. I look back to Tito who taps his cheek, joking about me slapping her. I roll my eyes at him and Mat leads them over to his group blocking my view. “I don’t know Syd. I mean I think I really like him, but just a little while ago I told Mat all that stuff and I don’t want him to think I’m using him to get over Mat,” I sigh looking over at her. She sends me a warm smile,” sweetie he doesn’t think that. None of us will think that okay? We all see the way he looks at you, it’s not one-sided.”
I look around the group and they nod and agree. I smile and take a deep breath. “Okay well then I guess I’ll be right back,” I say standing up and making my way to the guys. I hear clapping and whistling and directly flip them off. “Oh Y/n, perfect I need your opinion on something,” Anders throws an arm over my shoulder. “Oh I’m scared,” I joke laughing. “Hey that hurts,” he pushes me playfully. I wobble and Tito leans over and wraps an arm around me. I smile up at him.
The conversation flows between everyone and he leans down into my ear and says,” You’re very distracting, you know.” I shake my head laughing at him,” You are one to talk,” I smile up at him. I look back over to the girls who are all sending me a thumbs up. I notice Mat staring at me and he sends me a genuine smile. I send him one back and look over at his girlfriend. “Well I am getting bored so I’m heading back to the cool kids’ table,” I laugh and the guys all gasp,” You wanna come with.” She raises her eyebrows and looks around. “Me,” she asks shocked. “Yeah. You don’t have to but you are more than welcome if you need a break from these guys,” I smile and give Tito a squeeze and turn to walk away.
She quickly kisses Mat’s cheek and walks over to me. I link our arms and walk back over to the table. “Guys you all know Mat’s girlfriend right? I saved her from the goofs over there,” I laugh looking over at the group. Everyone reintroduces themselves and Syd sends me a questioning look. I shake my head and smile joining in the conversation. After a few hours, everyone was getting ready to head home and we met Mat and Tito at the door.
“Thank you for tonight Y/n, I had a really good time. I am sorry about everything. I was jealous and insecure because you are really pretty and the nicest person I have ever met. Mat would always talk so highly of you and I was scared one day he would realize you would be better for him,” she says stopping me right before we get there. “It’s okay, I understand. You didn’t handle it in the best way, but that’s over now. We can start fresh,” I smile giving her a hug. “I’d really like that. I don’t have many girlfriends but I’m glad I have you,” she hugs me back and we walk over to the guys. They both give us crazy looks and we laugh.
“I'm sorry. Did I miss something cause that seemed very friendly and nice,” Mat asked and Tito slapped his chest. “Dude shut up. You may scare the kindness away,” he jokes looking towards me. Mat slaps his chest back and I turn to him,” Thank you Barzy.” He smiles and nods. “Well I hate to leave the good company but someone promised me food and I am starving,” I laugh rubbing my stomach. I reach over and hug them both. “Thank you, for that. And Tito is a really lucky guy Y/n” Mat says hugging me back. I smile and hold my hand out for Tito. He grabs it and leads us away from them and to the car.
“Girls confuse the hell out of me,” he laughs arm wrapped around me walking down the sidewalk. “Me too,” I laugh looking up at him. We get to the car and he goes to open it. Before he walks to his side I stop him. “Hey can we talk for a second,” I asked rubbing his hand with my thumb. He hums in agreement. “These past few weeks have been really nice and I don’t want to ruin this by saying anything. But last time almost ruined me so I need to get it off my chest,” I start and he nods telling me to continue. “I think I really like you, T,” I say looking down at our hands.
I hear him let out a sigh of relief. “Good because I think I really like you too,” he smiles taking his other hand and guiding my face up to meet his. “I don’t want you to think I’m using you,” I say looking into his eyes. “I don’t. I was scared you’d think I was taking advantage of you,” he whispers tucking a stray hair behind my ear. “No chance,” I smile. “So you wanna do this? Give us a try,” he asks smiling down at me. I nod,” My heart has been broken so many times in the past… but you won’t hurt me, right? I can trust you.” He grins and nods his head. “You can always trust me,” he says before pushing his lips into mine and leaning me back into the side of the car.
My hands fly into his hair and we stay there just showing each other how we feel. The moment was sweet and gentle and would have lasted longer if we hadn’t been interrupted. “Get your girl Tito,” Matt Martin yells while poor Sydney tries to get him in their car. We break away and laugh and then wave goodbye. I lean up and kiss him one more time. “Okay, now can we please go get something to eat. I wasn’t kidding I’m starving,” I pout looking up at him through my eyelashes. “Of course. Anything for my girl.”

If you're still sharing your Disney+ login with your family and friends in Canada, you might not be able to do so later this year.
In September 2023, Disney+ said changes could be coming to Canadian subscribers. By early November, Canadian subscribers were emailed about changes to their agreement, telling them they "may not share [their] subscription outside of [their] household."
The service considers a "household" to mean the "collection of devices associated with your primary personal residence that are used by the individuals who reside therein."
The move came after Netflix officially shut down password sharing in February 2023.
Following this, many Canadians have still been able to share their Disney+ login with others, but that might change after this summer. [...]

Abbi and Will did their research on this show, man. I stumbled across this documentary on Netflix. It’s about a short stop from Moose Jaw, Canada that played in the All-American Women’s Baseball League. Who is still with her partner 70 years later. Sounds like this woman was the inspiration for our beloved Jess.
Also, I fully recommend watching this documentary. It’s so good. And helps with the ALOTO withdrawals we are all experiencing.

i feel like we’re finally at the age of information transparency on the internet that studio head execs are showing their own asses in an unprecendented way. like we all knew they were bigoted old farts who hate minorities and animation as a medium BUT now we have the entire hbo max tobacle, and that’s only the most obvious.
recently two tv shows for wings of fire and phoebe and her unicorn were cancelled– the first because of netflix budget cuts and the second because “nobody wants to watch a female-led show.” as for the latter, that’s so obviously not true that it’s laughable, what with basically every disney animated show being female-led and extremely popular incl. owl house and amphibia, legend of korra being revered rightfully for its badass queer woc main, the female-led infinity train seasons being just as popular as the male-led, my little pony getting a terrifying number of fans... i don’t even have to explain this to y’all i don’t know why i am, it’s just obvious that isn’t the case. the reason i lumped it in with wings of fire though is it shows that these execs literally have their heads so far up their own asses they don’t realize that they’re literally throwing away money. both wings of fire and phoebe are EXTREMELY popular with their target demographic– i work at a library and go to bookstores like, once a week, and wings of fire is THE kids’ series right now– every library and bookstore has a dedicated shelf just for it, every kid in the us and canada reads these gay lil dragon books. i don’t know much about phoebe but i do know that i have to shelf her graphic novels every goddamn day so they’re getting checked out constantly. making these shows would give these studios an immediate HUGE audience but they don’t want it because.......... ???? honestly the only thing i can think of is bias against animation, but also i do know that while WoF is very cishet in the first few books, later books add quite a few queer dragons and that could def be a reason.
netflix also recently told craig mccracken, creator of some of the most beloved kids shows of the 2000s, that “original content doesn’t sell anymore” and they need to do reboots and remakes instead. which is funny coming from the company that made stranger things which, while nostalgia-bait for the 80s, is an original fucking story. also the owl house and amphibia are disney’s top shows rn. the most popular kids movie right now is encanto, a completely original story. and that’s just in KIDS MEDIA, do i need to bring up the popularity around everything everywhere all at once, squid game, the knives out franchise, etc? we’re in an age of remakes and reboots yeah but original stories can still make money and gain fans if you make a good fucking product. but netflix doesn’t care about that, as evidenced by how fast they cancelled first kill and also every other show that was good.
and idk what it is but something about the state of the internet right now means that we’re all seeing this in a way we hadn’t before. we’re all seeing how fucking dumb these execs are– well, dumb or actively malicious. or even trying to commit corporate suicide for some reason. it’s just interesting to me that all this is happening now when in the past we were just kinda like. stuck with whatever we got

I was thinking that while Discovery has undoubtedly changed throughout the seasons (some ways long overdue, because if your idea of being "edgy" is just being racist then you get season 1), ultimately it's always been just like itself, very fond of big plots and big speeches, enamored with unnatural dialogue (in early seasons because the writers thought they were being so clever, in later ones because the show is deliberately dumbing its writing down), plagued by poor pacing, and the hopeful message that every season wanted to convey not entirely supported by what actually happens in the story.
In the latter respects season 4 did better than previous seasons, and again I certainly don't want to return to the season 1 approach, but my reluctance to watch season 4 wasn't entirely unfounded, either. I said this before but I'm in the 'generation' of Trekkies whose point of entry to the franchise was Discovery, back when it was a new show on Netflix, and it's always been... so viscerally disappointing to watch it constantly fall short of the potential these characters were offering. Season 4 did not exactly change my mind. If anything the handful of good episodes (which were very good!) made me long even more for the ideal version of this show that I could glimpse in there, and which I could wholeheartedly support and recommend without any caveats.
And I mean, this is not just on Discovery either. All the other live-action shows suffer from the same problems I outlined above, and SNW and Picard staunchly refuse(d) to confront their "edgy" racism issue while also being mediocre TV, so Discovery is still miles ahead of them. I also don't think the more structural writing problems should come as a surprise post-WGA/SAG strike. All these shows have been made on pretty strict budgets, by cutting corners wherever and whenever the production could (eg moving to Canada). I'm assuming the labor practices in the writing room and on set were along the lines of "squeeze these people for all they got as fast as you can, one season at a time" since 2016, and that is not a recipe for thoughtful, or even just sensical, television. (Plus, Discovery has had a history of workplace harassment in the writing room since basically its inception, and that can't have helped. That is hopefully something the show has left behind since season 3.)
So I suppose Discovery will keep Discovery-ing in the next, final season. The plot will be universe-ending, there will be speeches every episode, the dialogue will make you wonder how do these people even live huddled all together without going crazy—if Star Trek is overall an allegory about the workplace, then Discovery now reflects the recent corporate tendency to deflect actual grievances through the use of therapy language and the idea that everyone should be always 100% open about their struggles with everyone else, no matter how appropriate for the situation it is. That sums up my expectations pretty well, I think.
After all these years, I'm unmoved by Discovery's promise of a future where every big problem can be solved if you say the right words, with the right attitude. Contrary to its purported message, the show proved over and over that that isn't even enough to make a scifi show I could find consistently entertaining. But I will still be there to watch season 5, if anything because sometimes I like to see things to their end, and I'm still irrationally fond of this mess and these characters. Perhaps I'll have a good time along the way as well.
