Today (11/22/22) is the 59th anniversary of C.S. Lewis’s death. Lewis is, of course, the beloved author of the Chronicles of Narnia, as well as a Christian apologist occasionally known as The Apostle to the Skeptics; he focused on defending what he called “Mere Christianity” (a title of one of his books as well), the doctrines shared by virtually all traditionally oriented Christian churches. Lewis himself was an Anglican, and it is from the liturgical celebration of his life from that church that the prayer at the bottom is derived. C.S. Lewis on the significance of myth:
“The value of myth is that it takes all the things you know and restores to them the rich significance which has been hidden by a veil of familiarity.”
“The heart of Christianity is a Myth which is also fact.”
C.S. Lewis on the nature of imagination:
“For me, reason is the natural organ of truth; but imagination is the organ of meaning. Imagination, priducing new metaphors or revivifying old, is not the cause of truth, but its condition.”
“I do not think the resemblance between the Christian and the merely imaginative experience is accidental. I think that all things, in their own way, reflect heavenly truth, the imagination not least.”
O God of searing truth and surpassing beauty, we give You thanks for Clive Staples Lewis whose sanctified imagination lights fires of faith in young and old alike; Surprise us also with Your joy and draw us into that new and abundant life which is ours in Christ Jesus, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Turning off the reblogs on this. At the time I wrote it, it felt like what I needed to say. There's not as much activity on the post now, but when there is, I feel...sort of hollow. We're so far past the point where this even means anything.
Y'all remember "cops aren't supposed to kill guilty people, either", right?

I honestly and truly believe all good AUs should be a little “”””ooc”””” in the sense that good characterisation involves understanding that changes a characters backstory and circumstances will have an effect on how they respond to the world around them
Good characterisation isn’t about creating a perfect 1:1 canon replica it’s about understanding why a character is different in your work and about grounding the changes you do deliberately choose to make in canon character traits

the pretend plot of bg3: you've gotta get these tadpoles out and stop a giant floating brain with delusions of grandeur
the real plot of bg3: in order to date us (the party) you must defeat our seven evil exes: a half-demon warlock patron, the literal goddess of magic, a vampiric lord, an insane cult leader , an archdemon, the goddess of darkness, and finally, the Trauma

King Charles I, Three-Quarter Portrait, by Anthony van Dyck. The Execution of Charles I (detail), by John Weesop. King Charles I the Martyr, anonymous late 17th or early 18th century.
Corruptibilem pro Incorruptibile. I go from a corruptible to an incorruptible crown.
Now for to show you, that I am a good Christian, I hope there is a good man, who will bear witnesse with me, that I have forgiven all the world, and even those in particular, who have been the chief causers of my Death; who they are, God knows. I do not desire to know, I pray God forgive them: But this is not all, my Charity must go further, I wish that they may repent; for indeed, they have committed a great sin in that particular; I pray God with Saint Stephen that this be not laid to their charge; nay, not onely so, but that they may take the right way to the peace of the Kingdome; for my charity commands me, not onely to forgive particular men, but my charity commands me to indevour to the last gasp the peace of the Kingdome. This Sirs, I do wish with all my Soul, and I do hope, there are some who will carry it further, that they may indeavour the peace of the Kingdome.
- King Charles I, as recorded by the future Archbishop William Juxon of Canterbury, as part of his final testament before his execution.
Collect Prayer for Charles I, King and Martyr
Blessed Lord, in whose sight the death of your saints is precious; we magnify Your name for the abundant grace bestowed upon the martyred King, Charles the First; by which he was enabled so cheerfully to follow the steps of his blessed Master and Savior, in a constant meek suffering of all barbarous indignities, and at last resisting unto blood; and even then, according to the same pattern, praying for his murderers.  Let his memory, O Lord, be ever blessed among us; that we may follow the example of his courage and constancy, his meekness and patience, and great charity: and all for Jesus Christ’s sake, our only Mediator and Advocate. Amen.
- from the 1662 Book of Common Prayer, modernized English.
