QTOD: What's your favorite by an Asian or BIPOC author?⁣ ⁣ Bonus points if they're comfort reads because I could really use one right now.⁣ ⁣ I'm hoping to add #SpinTheDawn and #UnravelTheDusk to my list of favorites. I just have to read them first. 😅⁣ ⁣ —⁣ ⁣ I am so so tired. Tired of hearing about new crimes against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders every week. Tired that no matter how loud the AAPI community tries to make our voices heard, no one seems to be listening. Tired that AAPI have to die for us to be having these types of discussions.⁣ ⁣ I'm tired that targeted attacks are being portrayed as random or that the suspect was just having a "bad day". As if having a bad day excuses racist behavior.⁣ ⁣ The fact that people cannot, or refuse to, accept that the Atlanta spa shootings are anti-Asian hate crimes is kind of racist, in and of itself. It proves both how subtle racism can be, even when displayed so violently, as well as how uncomfortable the idea of racism makes society.⁣ ⁣ To me, there's an obvious connection between the shooter's sexual addiction, the "temptation" he wanted to eliminate, and the fact that he murdered six women of Asian descent. For centuries, Asian women have been marginalized and fetishized, seen as nothing more than docile, exotic prizes. To say that his crimes were not racially motivated ignores America's long history of perpetuating those degrading racist stereotypes.⁣ ⁣ Sending lots of love to my AAPI friends. I'm here if you need someone to talk to. ♥⁣ ⁣ #StopAsianHate⁣ ⁣ .⁣ ⁣ .⁣ ⁣ .⁣ ⁣ ⚔ challenges⁣ ⁣ #AllTheBooksMarch21 [epic battles]⁣ ⁣ #CoffeeStainedBones [diverse books]⁣ ⁣ #RFABMarch21 [underrated book]⁣ ⁣ #OCSHELF21 [Current read and shelfie]⁣ ⁣ .⁣ ⁣ #ElizabethLim #bookdragon #bookblogger #readingisfun #readreadread #readeveryday #bookpost #readingtime📖 #booksmakemehappy #mybookishfeatures #bookdragons #cozyreads #lightread https://instagr.am/p/CMk1-LRrr_J/

So excited to be sharing my copy of Slingshot by @mercedeshelnwein Thank you @macmillanaus for the paperback copy ☺️ This cute YA Contemporary novel comes out 27 April, which is just around the corner! Read the blurb below 💁‍♀️ ø ø ø ø ◦ BLURB ◦ Grace Welles had resigned herself to the particular loneliness of being fifteen and stuck at a third-tier boarding school in the swamps of Florida, when she accidentally saves the new kid in her class from being beaten up. With a single aim of a slingshot, the monotonous mathematics of her life are obliterated forever…because now there is a boy in it that she never asked for. Wade Scholfield. ✨ With Wade, Grace discovers a new way to exist. School rules are optional, life is bizarrely perfect, and conversations about wormholes can lead to make-out sessions that disrupt any logical stream of thought. 💀 So why does Grace crush Wade’s heart into a million tiny pieces? And what are her options when she finally realizes that 1. The universe doesn’t revolve around her, and 2. Wade has been hiding a dark secret? Is Grace the only person unhinged enough to save him? 🥺 ø ø ø ø Book Challenges: • Spring Colors by @acoffeestainedpage #coffeestainedbones • Sweet Dreams by @twinklesandstars #starsinthedark • Cringe Fest by @libraryofnatalie #bookaliciousapril • Read in 2021 by @books.comics.funkos #bookishconlifeapr21 • Rainbow by @littlemissstar55 #lmsapril2021 (at Perth, Western Australia) https://www.instagram.com/p/CODbEIZLH4s/?igshid=1j9v8vc85mahw

❓ QOTD - Are there any times/days you avoid the internet? Sorry, y'all, but April Fool's Day got me like 🙄. Firstly, a lie is not a prank. Telling people you're pregnant/got fired/invented a magic beer that keeps you young and healthy forever/whatever isn't clever. Tho I'll admit that magic beer one is better than most. And Rickrolling, however, classic. So I tend to stay off the interwebs on April 1st. Sorry, y'all 🤷‍♀️, that's my hot take of the day. ... Critiques on the second edit pass of the current WIP are going well. Woohoo! And the hubs and I are gonna try and tackle a garage project tomorrow. Time to get down a dirty. And wear big shoes because spiders 🕷. ... 🏷 #CoffeeStainedBones - Children's book day! . . . . . #booknerd #books #booksarelife #booksaremagic #bookstagram #bookstagramcommunity #bookstagrammer #bookworm #read #reader #reading #lovetoread #bookdragon #bookwyrm #booknerd #booknerdigans #danafraedrich @acoffeestainedpage @amanda.the.bookish #childrensbooks #dragonbooks #dragonology #dragons #dragonbook #dragonguide #fantasybooks #booksforkids #childrensbookday #kidsbooks #thedragonologyhandbook

QTOD: Do you have a favorite found family?⁣ ⁣ Found families are a major selling point for me to get interested in reading a book. The one thing my favorite books have in common is that they all feature a found family of some kind.⁣ ⁣ I just love watching their relationships with one another grow and bond together. Of course, the usual banter and antics that come along are fun to read too.⁣ ⁣ That's why I was so excited to receive #CrownOfBones by A.K. Wilder from @EntangledTeen a while ago. I can't wait to read it once I get my reading mojo back.⁣ ⁣ —⁣ ⁣ .⁣ ⁣ .⁣ ⁣ .⁣ ⁣ ⚔ challenges⁣ ⁣ #CoffeeStainedBones [cover love but haven't read]⁣ ⁣ #StarsInTheDark [any way you want it]⁣ ⁣ #CozyAsCanBee [fantasy reads]⁣ ⁣ .⁣ ⁣ #AKWilder #readersofinstagram #bookstagram #readingisfun #readerlife #bookaddiction #constantreader #bookstagramit #mybookishfeatures #readingtogether #loveofreading #bookdragons #cozybooks https://instagr.am/p/CMNuIjzg4qA/

❓ Who's someone who's sent you some really interesting/cool/fun #BookMail ? I'm giving a shoutout to the wonderful @andrea.hunter3 today for sending me this book a few years back. It's a collection of Bible stories retold in humorous ways, and I still find myself thinking about them now and then. . The second edit pass on my #CurrentWIP is underway! I spent a bunch of time today mapping out distances and how long they'd take to walk, drive, and use public transit (thanks, Google Maps!). Because, yanno, this combines two of your girl's worst skills--directions and time math. . Time math is way harder than regular math (which I'm also no good at). Trust. . Anyway, yeah, initially my "time bomb" numbers for this book were all wrong, but that should be under control now. I just need to figure out a way to save these maps in all their various forms forever. Because I never, never, never want to have to do this work again 😅. ... 🏷 #CoffeeStainedBones - Book in Hand. . . . . . #booknerd #books #booksarelife #booksaremagic #bookstagram #bookstagramcommunity #bookstagrammer #bookworm #read #reader #reading #lovetoread #bookdragon #bookwyrm #booknerd #booknerdigans #danafraedrich @acoffeestainedpage @bookish.bones #bookinhand #jonathangoldstein #ladiesandgentlementhebible #retellings #retelling #shortstories #shortstorycollection

❓ #QOTD - Do you subscribe to any short story/literary magazines like Uncanny or Fantasy & Science Fiction? Short stories seem to be really hit or miss for me. I loved NK Jemisin's "How Long Til Black Future Month?", but nothing else has really gotten me like that one. I just finished "Welcome to Bordertown" this week. I know Bordertown is kind of legendary in the sci-fi/fantasy community, but I kind of just bounced off of it 🤷‍♀️. . I think I expected more from it. And there are parts in a couple of the stories where characters are like, "If Bordertown is the same as everywhere else, what's the big deal?" And that's what got me too. Like, the wonky way magic may or may not work all the time was sort of interesting, but it didn't quite go far enough to really get me. . I dunno, maybe I'm not enough of a city kid to appreciate it properly. But I'm still glad I read it. I think understanding what you don't like and why is as important as understanding the what and why of the stuff you do enjoy. Especially as a writer since that can help you understand your own writing proclivities better. . Thanks for attended my literay TedTalk, I guess 😜. ... 🏷 #CoffeeStainedBones - Books + Flowers. . . . . . #booknerd #books #booksarelife #booksaremagic #bookstagram #bookstagramcommunity #bookstagrammer #bookworm #read #reader #reading #lovetoread #bookdragon #bookwyrm #booknerd #booknerdigans #danafraedrich @acoffeestainedpage @bookish.bones #shortstorycollection #shortstorycollections #shortstories #welcometobordertown #bordertown #booksandflowers #bookandflowers #flowersandbooks #floralfriday #flowersandbook
