Top 3 favorite West Wing fics that are under 2k words? (I don't read many long fics)
Hi! This is a really wordy fandom, but when we have shorter fics, we have some really lovely ones! I'll make this an opportunity to do a bunch of recs... haven't done a recs post in awhile! (No I did not follow directions, and I am not sorry LOL)

you're the one thing (i can't get enough of) by hanyolo (Rated G) [Josh/Donna]: Post series wedding/parent J/D, SOFT AND FLUFFY!
been loving you for quite some time by payback16 (Rated E) [Josh/Donna]: Present Day J/D smut, literally my favorite by this author. I read it again and again!
These aren't even close to all of my favorites, but these are ones I go back to again and again!

WIP Game
I was tagged for the WIP game by @twopointsinspace - I'm also only posting things from my wip folder that I still open to work on, if not it would be way too long, also it means everything is black sails (even the ones that don't sound like it)
Rules: post the names of all the files in your WIP folder, regardless of how non-descriptive or ridiculous. Let people send you an ask with the title that most intrigues them, and then post a little snippet or tell them something about it! and then tag as many people as you have WIPs.

Editor’s Choice:
With the anniversary of the airing of Somebody’s Going to Emergency, Somebody’s Going to Jail, here are a few of our favorite fics featuring or centered around Sam Seaborn!
consider this a gift (as you taste him on your lips) by sam_writes_fics for thefinestmuffins | Rated E | Josh Lyman/Sam Seaborn | Complete | Sam’s eyes dart down to Josh’s lips. “You really think you could’ve done better?”
Josh hesitates for a second, then sets the unopened beer bottles down on the counter.
“I know I could’ve.”
Friendship, Rings, and Heartstrings by JessBakesCakes | Rated G | Josh Lyman/Donna Moss | Complete | Sam feels sort of like a whack-a-mole at the arcade with how quickly and intensely the epiphany hits him. Maybe this is it. Maybe they’ll finally get it together. Behind all the flirting and banter is an incredible devotion they have to each other; one that possesses them to eat only a bite of a granola bar for nearly twenty-four hours or to hop on an international flight with whatever nonsensical items would fit in a backpack. He’s seen it for years now; he’s just been waiting for them to see it too.
are you still the same soul i met under the bleachers by singingaboutwishingx for claudiasjeancregg | Rated T | Will Bailey/Sam Seaborn | Complete | Will, on a decade of love, saying goodbye, and Sam.
sam and will, to the tune of “dorothea” and “‘tis the damn season”.
Unlikely by eowyn_of_rohan | Rated G | Ainsley Hayes/Sam Seaborn | Sam. Ainsley. Unlikely. (Or, part one in a series the author has challenged herself to wherein she plays songs at random via shuffle, picks something from the lyrics, and writes a one-shot drabble/short fic inspired by that lyrical phrase or a single word.)
More Than Just A Word by Sophie [archived by westwingfancentral_archivist] | Rated G | Sam Seaborn & Toby Ziegler | Complete | Sam tries to come to terms with his father's infidelity.

uhhh. cj and toby, toby and andy, andy and cj, and… cj and josh
send me two characters and i’ll talk about their dynamic!
cj and toby: MY BELOVEDS. GOD i love these two. they just! they know each other! they trust each other! past everything, the pain and the secrets and the arguments, they still trust each other, and i love them for it. toby hadn't seen cj in YEARS when he flew out to recruit her for bartlet's campaign and she STILL went with him! that's love, my friends! toby is the straight man to cj's frivolity. cj is the faithful to toby's cynic. they hold each others' secrets and lie to each other and it's just. they kill me
toby and andy: andy makes fun of toby and he takes it. that's it, that's the dynamic. (not really, but-- toby would do a lot for andy. she would do a lot for toby. neither of them would sacrifice their goals as government officials for the other, and i think acceptance of that is when their relationship finally stabilizes.) (that is, until toby throws away his job and his future to cover for andy leaking the shuttle.)
andy and cj: cj, like toby, is cautious. andy is not. their best moments come when they accept this. their worst moments come when andy needs something from cj and cj can't give it to her, or when cj has a plan and andy will not follow it. luckily, since they're both better prepared to talk things out than toby, they worked this out fairly early on, and have functioned pretty well since then. except for the time cj walked out on andy (and toby) because she had a plan. and the time andy asks cj to ask for toby's pardon. but aside from that everything's perfect!
cj and josh: i LOVE your headcanon that cj really, strongly reminds josh of joanie. she's his older sister! he's her little brother! it's phenomenal and i love them. they tend to take out their general anger on the other, because they know they can take it, which isn't like the MOST healthy thing but it works! cj, who's much better at being a normal person, is good at telling josh when he's too deep in his own head. josh, stalwart that he is, will show up and do what she asks for him. what else do either of them need?

ooh Idea- donna is AMY’s assistant for the au asks?
ooh boy okay!! this got really fucking long because of course it did! yk, the post said 5+, so!! there’s like 11 bullet points that are all very long under a cut
donna still does go to the bartlet campaign first. i think she maybe leaves a little bit in because she realizes she doesn't like campaigning that much, because you aren't getting anything done yet, and she wants to be getting things done now. or maybe, actually, when she leaves the bartlet campaign for her boyfriend, she's too embarassed to go back after breaking up with him, and ends up looking for other ways of working in politics
how she ends up working for amy, and where amy is working are really, really funny conceptually to me. because i'm a little obsessive about where amy is working when but the timelines don't make a ton of sense? she'd either be at now or the wlc, probably, and either is fine bc tww is also pretty vague on what amy actually like functionally does? she's a political director iirc, but i make her more of a lobbyist, bc she does some lobbying in canon, but she also gives speeches and does debate prep? idk. anyways, i like the idea of donna just going into the wlc or now bc women's rights! but i also think it's kind of hysterical if it's more pointed/less random, like josh either suggests it or mentions amy in passing and donna is like oh that sounds fun. i feel like she may actually apply in this case, but who knows? anyways, amy is impressed by her work ethic and sense of humor and her experience with the bartlets and josh (and her reasons for leaving, if its about not liking campaigns) and hires her on the spot
oh god, the banter is so fun to think about. i mean, i've genuinely written so much about just like. how amy and donna bounce off of each other, because it's fun, and because it's them it's probably flirtatious, but amy would absolutely not genuinely make a move on her assistant. i think they also both help a lot with the other's self doubt or whatever, with donna pushing amy to do more but also to take care of herself and take a step back sometimes, and amy just showing that she cares about donna's opinions and insights into whatever they're working on, and sort of forgetting that she's her assistant and not her co-conspirator, and sort of calling donna on her constant bad dates in early seasons, too ("don't go on that date, donna" "jealous?" and maybe she is, sort of, a bit, but that's really not the point. "disappointed in your taste. or your concept of yourself." "what's that mean?" "you could do better." "could I?" "yes." "then give me something better to do tonight, amy." and amy doesn’t ask her to stay) (don't think about amy finding out about dr. freeride and the conversation that would follow don't think about it don't think about it)
oh but things get fun once we get to a point where amy's there in canon, because you now have donna working with josh again in a roundabout way, and she left him, and she still feels guilty about it, and she can sort of see the glimpse into what it would've been like, if she had stayed. and amy and josh are like. just a mess, obviously. my brain is also stuck on the concept of that conversation amy and josh have in women of qumar but in reverse ("are you dating donna?" "no." "i heard you might be" "i'm not" "she's cute." "she's my assistant." but it also has a lot more. implications for him to hear that than for her to, so. that's fun). i kind of have no idea what amy and josh's relationship would look like in this au so. not gonna dwell on that. (except to say that the concept of donna "gather ye rose buds"-ing amy about josh is Really fucking funny, partially bc amy would just be like "he's a thorn not a bud")
when amy gets fired, donna's upset with josh about it, because she's spent the last... three and a half? years working with amy, so she's probably more on amy's side here, even if she will admit it was kind of reckless. donna's given a chance to stay at the wlc, but she goes with amy, which amy is baffled and terrified by, because she doesn't know what to do with that kind of loyalty (”you’ll never lose me amy” “please don’t say that”) and because she... doesn't have a job, really, at the moment. she pays donna, anyways, and makes sure she has a job with the stackhouse campaign with her if she wants it. donna takes it, and doesn't question why amy's doing it. she doesn't question why amy leaves, either, and amy doesn't get why she comes with her, again.
around when amy gets hired by abbey (and brings donna on with her if she wants it, which of course she does) amy kind of snaps and asks her why she keeps working with her, why she won't stay somewhere and climb up a ladder or go anywhere, she's qualified as hell and could and should be working a better job, should be doing anything other than following amy over cliff after cliff, should not be working for her at this point, and... donna kind of thinks its obvious. she loves working with amy, loves that they do new things all the time, that the work feels important, loves the opportunities amy has given her and that the work feels important. amy sort of lets it rest and throws herself into work with abbey, and we finally get to have donna with the whole group again somewhat, but its a conversation that they sort of keep having without really having, until donna finally snaps and says something like "do you want me to quit?" or "do you want to fire me?" or "do you want me to leave?" idk, and amy maybe says yes, and maybe doesn't answer, and that's commencement (of course the idea of donna and josh doing "you have to get amy" and "are you in love with amy" is also really. interesting to me bc of how you'd have to make it work and i don't not have thoughts)
once things have settled, a little bit, after zoey's gotten back, donna goes to amy and tells her like "i'll resign. if you don't want me here... i'm not gonna make you fire me, but if you don't want me here, i'll go." and amy is a mess of a person, so she's like. "okay." and donna's naturally upset by that, and oh, this is happening during constituency of one, by the way! so donna leaves, amy gets yelled at by jed, goes to josh's office and sort of has a breakdown about everything, and when he says "apologize, you gotta apologize" he means to jed and to donna, and she goes to jed and quits and everything ('this building isn't very conducive to relationships’ hits here, huh) and tells him that he or abbey should hire donna, that she's incredible and one of the best people she's ever worked with, and she leaves.
donna takes the job (i'm not sure about specifically what job? i do really like the concept of her being abbey's cos for a lot of reasons but idk if she'd be like "qualified" for it at this point? maybe she gets taken on as like an interim cos for her but abbey just keeps her, anyways. or it could be something in legislative affairs bc i loved angela and donna working together) and feels too weird and sort of hurt to reach out to amy even though she does get amy well enough to sort of get it, she's also too insecure to really get it. someone mentions, in passing, at some point, that amy told jed to give donna a job, and she's sort of touched and sort of insulted and it's all complicated, and abbey or whoever reassures her that she has this job because she deserves this job, not just because amy recommended her. very highly.
cj probably points out a lot of stuff about amy and their relationship to donna in my no exit analog bc i love a good bottle episode, and cj being friends with both of them and being super perceptive is so important to me. i will also not be discussing gaza here bc i honestly don't think in this au that donna would be going
she and amy run into each other either at some fundraiser thing abbey and amy are both speaking at, or in some lobbying meeting or something, and amy's glad to see her doing well, and it assuages a little of her guilt over the whole thing. they have a really awkward conversation, something like "are you enjoying the new job?" "yeah, i really am. i guess i should thank you, since i hear you helped me get it." "you don't... it kind of felt like the least i could do." "yeah, well. thanks, anyways." "i miss you." "then why did you tell me to leave?" "you're the best assistant and probably the best friend i've ever had, you know." "so you decided to ensure i was no longer either?" "i was kind of only going for the first one." “well, you always were an overachiever.” and then they have to like. go and do their jobs bc they’re very busy people. but things are a little better between them now
finally, at some point, god knows when or how or why, donna’s probably made a joke about it, or something, and amy just says something like “i didn’t want you to work for me anymore because i knew you could do better, could do more, than being my assistant, but i didn’t want to tell you to leave.” and donna, who gets amy just nods and says “i appreciate that. i really did love working with you, but i appreciate that. could’ve said that then.” and amy laughs and rolls her eyes, and donna gives her a look. “is that the only reason you didn’t want me to work for you anymore?” and amy just shakes her head, and donna starts to say something, expects to have to say something, but amy kisses her and says “i’m really glad you don’t work for me anymore.” and donna laughs and says “i am, too.”

sorry i just spam liked all of your nhie post but you ALWAYS have the best takes and i just finished watching and need more, i’m about to binge read your driving fic and i can’t wait!!! you’re just. the most talented author ever oh my god. ANWYAY: thoughts on kamala and mr. k? kamala was SUCH a goddamn superstar this season ahh!!!! and also… more thoughts on shira/zoe please and thank you??? you have OPENED MY EYES I WILL NEVER BE THE SAME THEY FED US SO WELL I NEED MORE
first of all, never be sorry for spam liking my posts, i love when other people find value in my hot, hot takes. very excited to get into 2.08 because i remember finding it really enjoyable on a minute-by-minute basis and wanting to dig into everything the classroom content had to say about devi's journey for the season.
secondly, hope you like the driving fic! it's highkey some of my best work. (though i don't know about the most talented author ever oh my god, i am blushing over this so thank you)
thirdly, my thoughts on kamala and mr. k are yes, please, anything to give us more mr. k content. much more of a fan of the way devi inserts herself into the dynamic to make fun of mr. k, though. their two-way dunkfest is my absolute favorite best student-teacher dynamic possible.
and finally, YES i've opened another person's eyes to shira/zoe supremacy!! love that for me, specifically, and also for the fandom at large.

THAT AU SOUNDS SO GOOD!!!!! i’m sorry to keep sending you asks i’m just so excited lmao- “i kind of just took every single relationship that isn’t canon and ran with it asldfj” STORY OF MY LIFE AHAHAHA what relationships are you thinking abt? i know you said you didn’t really plan it out so feel free to just talk about their magic and how that relates to their problems because that’s also very cool! i’m writing a royalty au (i say like it hasn’t been going on for a year) so this is v up my alley
AHH TY!!!!! also don’t apologize for sending asks i’m so excited to get them!!! also i am so excited for ur royalty au omg
okay so. i could really just as easily say it’s ot5 donna/josh/sam/toby/cj and call it a day But that’s not exactly reflective of things. but like overall what’s important is that they’re all in a found family here okay okay.
So. what i’m looking at rn is: josh/toby, sam/josh, sam/josh/toby, cj/toby, and donna/joey, with past cj/andy/toby. i’m also toying with the ideas of josh/donna and cj/danny — with these two, i’m not as sure how they would fit into the overall dynamic, so i’m not committed to them either way, i’m just going to start writing and see how they feel. regardless, josh and donna’s relationship is going to be v important and danny is going to be a character.
i’m gonna put the magic stuff under a read more bc i think it’s going to get pretty long
- josh gets his powers via people he’s killed(/let die) and especially now that he’s in a position of power he’s so terrified that one day he’ll discover he’s able to do something new. he has fire powers from the night his sister died, but he tries to avoid using them because of what they represent/remind him of. actualizing his trauma with magic metaphors babyy
- toby’s powers are hereditary, and related to what star you’re born under. his start out fairly tame — he has the ability to imbue special properties into the ink/words he writes so when they’re read out loud, they have certain effects/can strengthen the magic of others (this works especially well with sam’s) — but during a specific point in the plot, it turns out that he had additional/stronger latent powers that are activated.
- no one at the beginning understands sam’s powers very well, but they know that they’re related to his emotions, and that when they are activated bc he gets emotional, he is seriously, seriously powerful. his magic is also word based — he needs to say what he wants in order for it to happen. he tries to keep careful control of what he says as a result, so that he doesn’t lose his temper and cause something to happen that he can’t stop.
- cj’s magic has to do with her empathy/understanding of other people. she has the gift of psychometry, which means she’s able to understand the history and emotions tied to an object. her powers also foil toby’s latent powers, but i’m just gonna leave that there.
- donna can take things apart on an atomic level, separate cells from each other (though it has less to do with science and more to do with her tuning into the aura of the object). it should be gruesome, and bloody — and sometimes, when she has less time to get things right, it is — but most of the time it’s strangely beautiful, things turning to dust in intricate patterns that only she and the world can understand. she tries to avoid using it on living things at all costs, but she spent a long time learning how to master it using inanimate objects, so she’s handy in a fight all the same.

IM SORRY BUT 20 and 42 for cj and toby... i had to send another one bc the teacher au destroyed me, especially the hints at their relationship. ahhh i love your writing so MUCH
CJ/Toby: 20. Teacher AU + 42. The Big Damn Kiss
please don’t be sorry at all!! i always want more prompts especially for otps with small fandoms and i never mind getting multiples from the same friend :D
i really haven’t dived in with these two in the teacher AU yet, huh? cj teaches physical education and toby teaches us history and they flirt constantly, so the other staff and even some students think they must be dating. here’s a sample for this mashup, set during a home game for girls basketball that cj coaches.
“You know what, Toby, you are the most infuriating, insufferable--”
“You just hate it when I’m right.”
“No, I hate it when you interrupt me, and you know that. And you think you’re winning the argument, but really you’re about to win a swift kick to the--”
“CJ.”
“What?”
“Can we stop fighting over high school basketball and start fighting about what we’re really fighting about?”
“I don’t think that will be any more productive, do you?”
He reached for her hand, smiling when she glared at him. She didn’t try to stop him from lacing his fingers through hers and holding on, and that meant he was winning the argument. The one that counted, anyway.
“There’s no law against it.”
“I never said it was illegal, Toby, I said it wouldn’t look good.”
“Who cares what it looks like? We’re adults. As long as we’re not making out in the supply closets, why should anybody care at all?”
CJ shook her head. “I don’t know--but they do. People talk.”
“They’ll talk whether we go out together or not,” he argued. “Have you seen the way Josh looks at Donna? Those whispers have started up already and he just got here; you and I have a two-year head start.”
“Fine.”
“Fine?”
“Yes.” She stared resolutely ahead of them, as the halftime bell rang and the girls on her team crowded the coolers to grab beverages.
“You’re saying I won the argument?”
“Oh, not at all. You’re still wrong, but I’m saying we can go out this weekend.”
Toby grinned when she finally looked at him, his eyes merry in the way he saved just for her. “This weekend is pretty far off. Want to make out with me in a supply closet in the meantime?”
Her laugh was swallowed up by the crowd noise in the bleachers and the squeak of shoes against the court.
“I think we can do better than that.”
He was still trying to decide if her words were an invitation or a challenge when she grabbed him by his lapels and kissed him.
Ignoring the squeals of CJ’s team and the heckling that came from their coworkers in the stands, they didn’t break apart until the bell rang to start the second half of the game.
“Well, people are definitely going to talk now,” Toby said as they sat back down.
“This way we can control the narrative,” she told him with a smile, as though it had been her idea in the first place.
Not for the first time--probably more like the thousandth, in fact--Toby thought that she was going to drive him crazy.
Which was fitting, since he was crazy about her.
send me two of these tropes and a pairing!

okay should i start the grishaverse journey and all that entails???????? give me your thoughts on the books and where to start please, i need an expert!! also hi! ily! how’s it going?
aleena!!! hello my angel, how are you doing!!!! i hope you’re doing well and staying safe !!!!! oh, the grishaverse...... i have A Lot to say about it so i’m going to put everything under the cut!!!!
first of all, i would just like to say that while i enjoyed the books and found them fun, they are not for everybody!! as all media, they have their issues so it’s good to go into them with the ability to think critically about the issues they tackle, the representation and misrepresentation of different communities, and the author’s own conscious and subconscious biases. basically, just try to stay self-aware while you’re reading!!!
secondly: everyone who reads the grishaverse has different opinions on which books they prefer. i have very strong personal opinions on the quality of each book/series, and that’s what i’m gonna tell you about here, but i definitely recommend hearing other people’s thoughts too because we each have different tastes!!
so far, the grishaverse is broken up into three different series: the grisha trilogy, the first of the series, is about alina starkov, a seventeen-year-old girl who is discovered to have the power of manipulating light (sun summoning). it follows her journey as she seeks to liberate her home country, ravka, of a wall of darkness known as the shadow fold that cuts the country in two, as well as attempting to defeat a tyrant who wants to use alina’s power for his own gain. the second series is the six of crows duology, about six teenage outcasts in the city of ketterdam who set out to complete an impossible heist but find themselves in a... change of plans, of sorts. the third series is the nikolai duology, which follows a few characters from the grisha trilogy and one of the characters from six of crows as the king of ravka attempts to overcome a darkness inside himself and to strengthen his hold on his country.
when it comes to which order to read the books in, i recommend just starting with the first book of the grisha trilogy and going through the books in the order that they were written! but if you only want to read six of crows, you don’t have to read the grisha trilogy.
now for the basic info on each series:
the grisha trilogy
book one: shadow and bone
book two: siege and storm
book three: ruin and rising
goodreads link
trigger warnings: graphic death, graphic violence, war, past referenced death of a parent, murder, bullying, referenced sexual abuse, animal death, classism, victim blaming, ableism, captivity/imprisonment, physical illness, graphic depictions of blood, religious fanaticism
six of crows
book one: six of crows
book two: crooked kingdom
goodreads link
trigger warnings: graphic violence, graphic death, graphic injury, fantasy drug abuse, rape/sex trafficking/CSA (not in scene; character backstory), gun violence, slavery, racism (exotification), genocide (explicit; Holocaust metaphor), animal death, parental abuse, referenced familial death, religious fanaticism
nikolai duology
book one: king of scars
book two: rule of wolves
goodreads link
trigger warnings: drug addiction, loss of a loved one, grief depiction, captivity, slavery, implied past sexual assault (numerous times & numerous characters), torture, bullying, fatphobic comments (always in a negative light), mention of past death of a baby, attempted pedophilia, suicide, animal death, ableism, religious fanaticism, and war themes (note: i have not read rule of wolves and cannot find a list of trigger warnings yet, so i will add those once i read the book myself).
shadow & bone (netflix)
can be watched without reading any of the books!
note: this show includes a lot of anti-asian racism that is not handled well. this post discusses the particular details of it and why it is harmful.
trigger warnings: anti-asian racism, graphic violence, graphic death, captivity/imprisonment, referenced sexual abuse, graphic animal death, flashing lights, war themes, referenced parental death
anyway, i know this is a lot, so please don’t hesitate to ask more questions if you wanna know something more specific or you’d like me to elaborate on something i’ve said here!! i hope this helps you!! 💛💛

Creator Spotlight #22: jazzjo
Welcome back to the TWW Author Spotlight! For every spotlight, we’ll ask each featured author the same ten questions (as well as questions you submitted on Twitter!). This week we’re excited to be chatting with jazzjo (on AO3 - @sameschtick on twitter)!
1) What are your top 5 desert island fics by other authors?
baby it’s cold outside by crossingdelancey It’s short, it’s sweet, it’s cj’s gay meg ryan winter, what more could you want.
may these memories break our fall by claudiasjeancregg A real gateway fic to cj/toby/andy that captures the internal lives of all three characters so well; I could (and do) read it over and over.
Red, White, and Boo by fleurfemme Scream meets West Wing meets great ensemble writing. Incredible.
departures and arrivals by rearviewmirror Atlas plays with distance and time and liminal space to pack so much yearning into this piece.
we thought love was something we weren’t meant to find by darlingdarling I love pieces that take a little moment in canon and expand on the potential and this one just knocks it out of the park.
 2) Do you have a favorite character to write? Favorite ship(s) to write? Are there characters or ships you'd like to write more of?
My crutch character is C.J. by a long shot (who’s surprised) – the interiority of her as a character in how she’s portrayed is just so fascinating to me. My favourite character to write is probably either Andy or Charlie. Both of them get witty repartee in canon but there’s so much not said that I do love taking my authorial liberties.
Favourite ship is cj/andy hands down. I think I’ve populated half the tag (the math works out – 29/55) because I’m incorrigible about them. This extends to permutations within the cj/andy/toby triangle, which is a sandbox I love to play in.
I’d like to explore writing more about Charlie, Donna, and Joey. I’ve done a bit of all three (finally caved and wrote something Charlie-centric recently) but they’re still more challenging to properly capture.
 3) Tell us about your writing process (setup/location? Night or day? Snacks/beverages? Computer/phone/notebook? Music or silence? Anything else you want to share is welcome!)
My (somewhat messy) rolling desk. Night (by necessity, because work). Emotional support water bottle or seltzer or a hot drink. Laptop, though I used to primarily write in a notebook. Music either completely accelerates or impedes the process, it’s really a toss up. I love writing with it, and take a lot of inspiration from it, but I sometimes get too distracted by it and have to turn it off.
I used to write longer things, back before I started working full-time. I only started writing for TWW in the last half-year and have gravitated to shorter chapters and one-shots because I like writing a full chapter in one sitting and I have less time. Even so, this lil baby can fit so much angst into it.
 4) What writing advice do you have for others who may be reading this?
Write what you want to read. If something comes naturally, lean in. Catch passing thoughts and phrases in a small notebook or on your phone. Make a habit of writing. There’s always time to write – five minutes on the train, ten minutes before you sleep – but don’t let it take over your rest time.
 5) From where do you usually draw your inspiration? (Other forms of media, music, tropes, etc?)
I love pulling and expanding on the tiniest moments in canon, or I’ll get a single line of a song so under my skin it turns into something on the page. I love intertextuality and my best work tends to happen between mediums.
I tend to draw on things I know well, so you’ll see recurrent themes and references like classical music, theater, Jewish life, and literature sprinkled throughout my writing.
6) What is the fic you've written that you're most proud of and why?
This is cheating, but I couldn’t pick between two.
turning in place is probably the best developed of anything i’ve written for TWW. It digs into Toby as a character in ways I didn’t really think I could do, and it really was me trying to find a way I could stomach the shuttle leak arc. It plays with time, it plays with religion, it plays with guilt and family and dwelling too much or too little or just enough on things, and if that isn’t Toby Ziegler. I think form, character, and content collided in a way I have been trying to get to again in this fic, and I still don’t know how I did it.
In one-shot land, enumerated powers comes to mind. It came completely out the left field, but I loved writing Evelyn Baker Lang as a character and imagining (aka spreadsheet planning) a workable backstory for her that bled through the whole fic.
 7) What's the fic trope/concept/AU you'd read 1000 of? What's the fic trope/concept/AU you'd write 1000 of?
Romcom tropes kill me in the best way every time. Writing-wise, I love writing looks into post-canon and filling in the blanks within canon.
 8) Is there anything you'd like to try writing-wise that you haven't yet?
A true ensemble fic. I came close in too wise to woo peaceably but not quite.
 9) What's your go-to Starbucks/coffee shop/other drink order?
I tend to go for black coffee out of my aeropress, sometimes slightly sweetened, and I love all manners of tea, but both of those tend to be drinks I make myself. My one vice is bubble tea, and I’ll almost always get unsweetened oolong tea with taro pearls, without the ice in it if I can help it.
 10) Do you have any current projects you'd like to promote or anything upcoming you'd like to tell us about?
I’m working on an Andy/Toby fic inspired by The Last Five Years – we see Andy in reverse and Toby in chronological order – called compel me to ask you for more.
Submitted questions:
From @JessBakesCakes: Do you have a headcanon about one of your fics that didn’t make it to the story for one reason or another? If so, what is it?
The continuation to watching the skies (the charlie-centric fic I mentioned earlier where Charlie is COS to POTUS, which is Andy) that I clipped and set aside to focus more on Charlie’s road back to the White House has C.J. eventually running for Congress in Andy’s second term because the spin boys make a whole case for it, even though she still feels a bit like an outsider to Hill politics. I almost always think of C.J. – like Leo – as the person behind the curtain, but I think one of the ways she might step into a campaign of her own is if someone she really trusted made a case for why it would help the constituents for her to run in place of a shitty incumbent.
From @S4MWILS0N: favorite: season, ep, one liner, character duo (romantic), character duo (platonic), plot arc, hc for pre post and during canon? craziest au you’ve ever considered? snippet/idea that never became anything? fave trope to read or write? moment that made u fall in love w the show?
Favourite…
Season: Three
Episode: The Supremes or Hartsfield’s Landing
One-Liner: “There is literally no one in the world that I don’t hate right now.”
Character Duo (Romantic): CJ/Andy
Character Duo (Platonic): CJ & Josh (early seasons) CJ & Charlie (later seasons)
Plot Arc: debate prep (also that we only saw the original campaign after we were already invested)
HC for Pre-Canon: CJ and Andy were grad school roommates. When Toby first introduces the two when he starts dating Andy they don’t tell him, and just let how similar they can be freak him out. He doesn’t find out for way longer than you think.
HC for Post-Canon: Charlie sets out on his own for a bit. Donna finishes school and goes back into politics. CJ never goes to California – she goes to Ohio to take care of her father, then back to the East Coast.
HC for During Canon: CJ has a personal relationship with each of the Bartlet girls – she’s the older sister Liz never got to have; she’s a model for living a full life while queer to Ellie; Zoey is a little skeptical at first but she ends up closest to CJ because CJ always Shows Up for her, no matter what, and holds her father back from being too embarrassing.
Craziest AU: rockstar AU my white whale
Snippet that never became anything: I have a whole folder titled “ideas i may never write / finish”. I will refrain from naming names out of hope that something will eventually exit that folder.
Moment that made me fall in love with the show: when I realised everyone talks as fast as I do
Thank you so much to jazzjo! And thank you to everyone who asked questions. This is our last creator spotlight for now - we may pick it up again if there’s interest in the future! We really appreciate every one who signed up to be featured and who asked questions for making this such a fun experience! As always you can reach us at [email protected], through tumblr messages, or on Twitter!
xx, What’s next?

ooh donna fic (psa) please!
Thanks! @palukoo and @bestfluteninja also asked about this fic, so here's two snips for all of you:
Snip 1:
She tells Josh about the diary. She probably should’ve told Sam, because he’d promised, with fire and fury, that he’d do something about the aftermath, if it ever came out; but it’s not just her career on the line, it’s his too, it’s both of them on this sinking ship, and she can’t let that happen.
It goes both ways, the fire and the fury, except she’s also so afraid she can’t breathe.
Snip 2:
She and Josh, one night, get spectacularly fucking drunk. He’s got the Ohio polling numbers in her lap. She’s in pajamas that are from Joey’s apartment. She’d taken them because she wanted something that she could keep, real and whole, that wasn’t just a memory like Joey’s stunning smile or the way she’d looked at Donna and told her she deserved the job on the Santos campaign.
The beers are from the junior staffers’ fridge, but Josh doesn’t look that remorseful when he takes them.
Later, much later, the next morning, where they make each other coffee and Lou gives them suspicious looks, Donna will realize that she’s probably never seen Josh that upset.
This fic was (is?) intended to be 20 vignettes in Donna's point of view in the press secretary au — this is an au @thxngam and I came up with where Sam is made the press secretary after CJ is promoted to Chief of Staff in S6. There's already a fic about Sam (a dawning day unfurling), and Josh (rewind), so this was intended to be a look into Donna from about S4 to post-canon, following those same events. It was supposed to cover Donna's feelings about her job, her career, her sexuality, and her relationships with the other senior staffers, acting as kind of a throughline between Josh and Sam, since I think she's the most emotionally perceptive of the three of them. The first snip is from a reworking of the diary arc, where Cliff finds out about the diary, so this is her trying to deal with it. The second snip is from the Santos campaign. It was intended to be kind of a sadder part where Josh and Donna get really, really drunk and Josh, incidentally, gets upset about the rift that he and Sam have in a dawning day unfurling that both of them think permanently damaged their relationship, and Josh's unresolved emotions about Sam in general. Donna tries to comfort him, but she gets upset too, because Josh is hurting a lot and Sam is hurting just as badly, and there's nothing she can really do about it.

OKAY LETS TALK ABOUT THE COMMUNICATIONS DEPARTMENT THING BECAUSE IM EMO. sam pushing cj down at rosslyn was something they never really talked about again, but i feel like it could have been SO interesting to see. like, that was his first insinct and he’s so awkward after the fact and everything. but TOBY... oh boy. toby pushing cj down and covering her head in 4x20 is something i never stop thinking about, it makes me SO EMO. and he never even MENTIONS it because it’s HER and i just- [cries]
I AM. EXTREMELY EMOTIONAL ABOUT IT. like, if i were writing something suitably poetic, i would get MILES out of a sentence like “toby teaches his deputies the skills he considers most vital in this world: how to avoid dangling modifiers, how to get a country of people to hold their breath as one. how to keep a good man popular. how to pull cj cregg out of death’s path.”
LIKE. AND THAT DOESN’T EVEN GET INTO SAM AND WILL’S OWN RELATIONSHIPS WITH CJ. we so rarely got to see sam and cj interact (at least to my memory?) but i would’ve LOVED to get something about sam’s feelings about her. sam is always SO CAREFUL about his opinions, he’s always so worried that he’s saying the wrong thing or he’s too new to this, and meanwhile cj is just. out there. insisting she’s right, even when she knows she doesn’t have all the context. it’s fascinating. and i love will and cj’s relationship, i LOVE what it says about them that he MAKES SURE HER HEAD DOESN’T HIT THE GROUND in 4x20. like toby pulls her out of the line of fire! that is vital! but will CATCHES HER HEAD and i am EMO about it. and you could pull that forward to s7, where cj’s support system consists of four (4) people and will is one of them! toby gets cj out of the line of fire (takes the heat for the shuttle leak) but will (and charlie and carol and margaret) are the ones who support her head on the way down! IT’S A LOT.
and GOD yeah the way cj feels unsettled and has to talk to sam after he pulls her out of the way in 1x22? and how she doesn’t EVER talk to toby about him pulling her out of the way in 4x20, and even goes out of her way to call it HER OWN reflexes? i’m in pain. she doesn’t need to thank toby because she KNOWS he’s there for her. it’s a lot. it’s so much.

i scream every time you reblog an ask game so expect a ton of these!! first off, my beloved “donna is toby’s assistant instead” au
i scream every time you send me asks so! it's mutual <3
one of donna's majors in there that she lists to josh in canon is like english or lit, so when she gets to campaign headquarters, she's looking, sort of, for a speechwriter, and she finds toby's office before sam's. (she jokes, later, when he's being annoying, that she wishes she'd found sam's first. josh's even. cj's, really-- cj would've been fun. but she really does love working with him)
he doesn't talk to her even when he sees her at first because the campaigns been taking on a lot of new people, whatever, he doesn't want to have a conversation, he's got a speech to write. eventually she goes to reorganize something and he gets frustrated and asks her what she's doing, and she rambles a little and accidently says something brilliant and he tells her to stop talking. they spend about a week being standoffish until finally something happens and she snaps, says she'll leave or find someone who actually values her efforts since he clearly doesn't want her there, and he gets confused and is like "are you kidding?" and in his own toby way explains that she is valued, he's just awful at working with people
donna's rambling about whatever or quick insight or banter are like. the cure for toby's writers' block at any given time, and she'll randomly toss out classic lit quotes that he ends up using. whenever he's struggling with a speech he'll just call donna into his office. i just like to think about donna helping him (or sam) write!
the implications this has for donna&andy... donna starts working for toby in the middle of like. the start to their marital decline, maybe? and she knows that, and she kind of wants to not like andy because of it out of loyalty to toby or whatever (even if it would also make her feel a little petty) but she can't help just. really liking and admiring andy, and they sort of become friends and andy really likes donna, too. donna ends up kind of trying to mediate for them somewhat, but it doesn't work, still. toby doesn't really like to talk about emotions, etc, obviously, but he does know donna's always there for him (even if it's to tell him when he's being dumb)
working for toby, she also spends a lot more time around press/general communications stuff, and with cj and sam which i just think is really fun, and i love donna doing press stuff so so much. toby loves her as an assistant, but is also... better than josh at realizing that she needs to do more. he makes her deputy press secretary... a little before cj becomes cos, and now you have donna press secretary au whoops (annabeth ends up as her deputy, still) (don't think about the timelines and gaza. i am choosing to not make this depressing af)
