⭑ He noticed you whilst visiting his subjects in the local village. Arthur didn’t want to rule like his uncle Vortigern. No fear or intimidation towards his people - which was weird to think he had people.

⭑ Arthur wanted his people to know that they could rely on him. He was their King, and that meant not turning a blind eye.

⭑ So on his second outing after his coronation - he saw you. Thinking you were some sort of supernatural creature that had somehow appeared in front of him. He couldn’t take his eyes from you.

⭑ He’ll do the secret admirer thing where he leaves gifts for you; mostly flowers, sometimes jewelry or perfume.

⭑ He doesn’t want anyone to know; he’d be teased relentlessly by his men - especially Goosefat Bill.

⭑ You had no clue who your admirer could be, absolutely none. It wasn’t a common occurance either - this was your first time receiving such attention.

⭑ Arthur noticed your likes and dislikes, and one day he felt the need to introduce himself.

⭑ He conveniently left out the King part, and you were taken aback. He was so handsome, so charming. Why would he need to hide behind a letter?

⭑ You were completely enamored by him; the way he spoke, when he moved the hair from his face, even the way he stood.

⭑ But it seemed to him like you were uninterested when all you were was shocked. So when he asked you to accompany him on a ride, you were silent.

⭑ And it took a few seconds before the information was processed. Arthur’s heart had never pumped so quickly inside his chest.

⭑ “Oh-I... yes, I would love to,” you blushed.

With those words, it seemed like he was the ... king of the world.

A/N: nobody asked for this, but all I've seen is Will smut (which I totally love, don't get me wrong) but I need some vulnerable Will

Pairing: Will Miller x f!reader

Warnings: grief, mourning, sad!will, mentions of death, mentions of Will's military past and Tom's funeral

One of the things you've always admired about Will is his strength. He was always the one to put on a brave face and push on. The captain in him had the duty of moving forward and completing whatever mission was at hand, whether it was getting his team to the landing zone or grocery shopping day at home.

It was that very same strength he possessed that got him through the darkest times in his life.

Losing his war veteran grandfather, losing his comrades in combat or to the haunting PTSD that they tried to chase away with substance abuse.

Before you came into his life, before he realized that he was lost in the same fog of that purgatory of PTSD, shutting his emotions out is the only thing he knew. After all that time, he came to believe it was easier than having to deal with them.

It just wasn't a priority; a moment of tears he refused to share with anyone anywhere other than sat naked and alone on the shower floor.

Tom wasn't the first friend he'd lost, but it doesn't mean it made losing him any easier.

It was easy for him to plaster a smile and bury his grief deep down until he felt it was time to unbury it and mourn.

Getting to that point of self-awareness was a victory in itself.

It took so much patience and love and pain, not only on his behalf but yours as well, to help him to understand what he was really struggling with.

He hadn't realized it had gotten so uncontrollable until the incident at Publix - the grand revelation of the weapon he could be, once shred of his humanity, provided the cathartic acceptance of the fact that he needed help.

Upon federal investigation, the story they told was that Tom had been shot and killed in a tragic mugging incident on their consultation trip. Just a boys' night out gone bad.

It wasn't too hard to believe, given they were 5 foreigners in a country that wasn't theirs. The heat from the Feds didn't last long. Thanks to Santiago's few but faithful contacts, that investment was quickly brought to an end.

It's barely 6 a.m. and you're stood in the kitchen making coffee, still processing how this all happened.

Your black dress is simple but elegant and modest against your body. Despite the itchy fabric, you can feel the early morning chill soaking through.

The dripping of the coffee maker lures you into a whirlwind of thoughts. You watch the droplets of dew form on the kitchen window against the cloudy sky which threatens to rain.

You start to second guess the toast when it pops up in the toaster. You're not the slightest bit hungry and you're positive Will won't be either, but you have to try.

He hasn't eaten right in the past couple days. You didn't say anything, but you've noticed the few bites he'd given his food and the way he'd pick at it.

He should've been ready and downstairs by now, so you decide to go up and check on him.

Moving forward is hard for most people, but for Will, it's what keep the pain at bay. The problem is when he stops.

Like a tornado, he's left with the screaming silence and the damage it left in it's wake.

Now that he's home, the mission of bringing Tom home is complete, the hard truth that his friend and mentor is gone has begun to sink in.

You gently knock on the door as you reach your shared bedroom.

"Honey, do you want any help?"

"I'm good, sweetheart. I'll be right out."

You can hear him sniffle despite his attempt to sound as normal as possible. Unconvinced, you turn the knob and open the door.

He's sat on the edge of the bed wearing a simple black suit as he looks back over his shoulder at you with a Marine coin in hand, a gift from Tom when Will confessed about his therapy sessions.

You aren't too surprised to see he changed out of the formal military blue suit he had out on earlier.

The ribbons, the medals, the badges... He couldn't put them on without feeling the crushing and staining weight of guilt.

"Lat minute outfit change?"

The corner of your lips curl in an attempt to smile, hoping to cheer him up with a bit of tease.

"I was gonna wear my dress blues, but..." he trails off for a moment to swallow hard. "Just didn't feel right."

Without a word, you quietly walk over and sit beside him. You're not sure what he needs right now, but you don't want him to feel alone.

"Black is more flattering if you ask me," you speak up.

His beard twitches as he attempts to smile. He knows you just want to help him feel better. Yet all he can do is stare down at the gold coin.

"Five times... Five times. Five close calls. And he survived them all. He didn't deserve to go out like that. He just wanted to help his family."

You fight back tears as you listen to him with an arm wrapped his back as you press your cheek to his shoulder.

"I told Santi to get him in. I said I'd go if Tom was in. Tom didn't even want to go in the first place. He didn't-"

There's a crack in his voice which he catches it in his throat to compose himself. He sniffles letting a tear cascade down his cheek only to wipe it away quickly, hoping you hadn't seen it.

"This isn't on you, Will."

He nods although you both know deep inside that he won't stop blaming himself.

"When you told me you were a marine, I knew the risks that came with that, Will. Every knock on the door had my heart racing. But I decided to stay with you because I love you. There wasn't a person on earth or a God in the sky that was gonna tell me otherwise. I knew the risks and I took 'em anyways because not having you would've hurt more... I don't understand how fate works other than we all end up the same. What I do know is that all we can do is love our close ones and cherish the good memories you have of them."

With a tearful and silent nod, he lowers his head and rests it against your chest. His arms lock around your waist as he surrenders to the tears in your embrace.

The tears quietly trickle down your cheeks as you listen to him finally breaking down.

With your lips pressed against his golden hair, you hold him in your arms and stroke the hair on the back of his neck to soothe him for as long as he needs.

All you can do is hold him through it and he couldn't be more thankful to have you in such a vulnerable moment after having faced them on his own for so many years.

Just the feeling of not being alone was overwhelming enough, but to have you holding him and reminding him of the things that are easy to ignore in grief give him hope.

Although he feels he's coming apart, he knows that he'll have the strength he's always had.

It's different now. It's not the strength to bury and forget; it's the strength to heal.

With a sigh of relief after a long, vulnerable moment, he pulls away from you and nods, mentally assuring himself that he's alright.

Upon arriving at the church, you're greeted by Molly so you offer your deepest condolences due to the circumstances. Just as Will, you find that the guys have all opted to wear normal black suits instead of the formal military uniform and you wonder if it's for the same reason.

"Sorry for that," he sniffles wiping his eyes as he tries to regain his composure, swallowing hard with guilt. "We should get going... I don't wanna be late."

You remind him that there is no need to apologize and that he can take the time to splash some water on his face to help him recollect before leaving.

Frankie doesn't say a word other than to Molly and the girls, apologizing for their loss. Throughout the priest's religious ceremony of easing words, Benny's apathetic eyes are glued to Tom's casket set in front of the church between his military portrait and a beautiful arrangement of white flowers. During Will's heartfelt eulogy, Santiago keeps his head lowered as the guilt consumes him.

The grift and sadness during the wake only follow and weigh heavier during the long walk to the gravesite, lingering among the guests of the funeral like a dark cloud. It's only reflected in depths by the light rain pitter-pattering all around.

The military traditions at the funeral leave a bitter tinge of irony in the boys as they watch Tom's casket lowering into the ground.

Tess's happy big doey eyes are now swollen and red as she cries under her mother's arm, hugging the folded flag as if it were her dad, while Molly holds her other and youngest daughter under the other arm.

Looking over at Will, you see that he's trying his hardest to keep his strong facade as well as the boys.

You slide your hand into his and whisper to remind him he's not alone and doesn't have to feel alone.

With a gentle squeeze to your hand, he nods.

"You with me?"

"I'm with you."

You and Will - as well as the guys and Tom's family - are the last to leave, reminding Molly that you're more than willing to help with anything.

Will, however, lingers a moment to speak to her private and tells her about the fund. You can tell from her reaction, she's genuinely surprised and thankful, relieved to know that she'll be able to pay for the funeral.

Having called your boss the previous day to let them know you wouldn't be going to work due to the funeral, you take the rest of the day off to recover from the overwhelming day after the funeral.

The drive home is quiet save for the rain against the car and the windshield, echoing into the vehicle which you insisted on driving to give Will some mental ease. He didn't put up a fight. He was quite relieved you'd offered.

In spite of being eager to understand how he's doing, you refuse to burden him with constant questions and decide to respect his mourning process. So, you keep a hand on his thigh to remind you're in this together.

He doesn't mind it at all. In fact, he is grateful for your respect and your thoughtfulness. His hand rests over yours and doesn't leave until you have to pull your hand back to turn the steering wheel, but it finds it's way back onto his leg, warm fully welcomed by his engulfing hand.

As you're undressing in your room, Will's hand catches yours while you're unzipping your dress.

"Thanks... I don't know about you, but I'd say this weather is perfect cuddling weather," you share letting the dress hang loosely off your shoulders.

Will smiles shyly as if you'd read his mind and locks his arms around your waist.

"I couldn't agree more."

SotWK AU Fancast: Théodred of Rohan

Because @from-the-coffee-shop-in-edoras got me thinking about it and excited over it again, I'm going to drop a fancast reveal for my upcoming Eomer x OC series (spin-off to "Taken").

In the SotWK AU (as the film adaptation plays in my head), Théodred son of Théoden is portrayed by none other than the gorgeous Charlie Hunnam.

Very much looking forward to the opportunity to expand on and give voice to this heroic, intriguing, yet woefully underutilized character! Gonna have to do a lot more research on Rohan and headcanon crafting, though! The labor should be worth it!

Side note/warning: A thousand apologies; this fic will not be a fix-it and he will still keep his canon death. But at least it will shine a light on what an amazing character he was before the tragic loss!

that solidified that fact that he was in love with you

keeps track of EVERYTHING

also bc of this he’s super observant and attentive

it’s really hard for him to open up about his PTSD

tries to push you away when things get bad or he has an episode

but you’re patient with him and listen to his needs when he does communicate them

it definitely helps make it easier as time go on for him to talk with you about it

then he starts to notice how his collection starts to dwindle down

until he looks in your closet to see all of them there

he secretly loves it even tho he definitely lightly teases you about it

if you’re short he definitely would pick on you about that too

the good thing is Will understands mental health struggles

I saw Crimson Peak on your list and got excited because Charlie Hunnam's character often gets overlooked! I wonder if you'd have some little fluff about him (fall/gothic aesthetics would be most welcome)

I'm so glad to find another Alan fan! He's really an underrated character in the film. I'm a little brain dead due to some health issue flare ups at the moment, so hopefully a list of headcanons is okay:

Alan loves your spooky/gothic aesthetic when it comes to your clothes. Even though other people thought it made you stick out like a sore thumb, it was one of the things that drew him to you in the first place.

When fall rolls around, he 100% helps you go all out with the decorations and proudly wears matching cozy sweaters with you (were sweaters a thing in his time period? Not sure, but we're gonna roll with it).

I'm not 100% sure when Halloween became close to the thing it is now, but it's my fav holiday, so again, we're gonna roll with it. He loves watching you put so much care and love into either choosing or making a costume and loves to match you once the holiday approaches. He'll help you dress up the outside of your house or porch to draw trick or treaters, dresses up with you, and loves helping you pass out candy. In between trick or treaters, he's so happy to just sit on the porch and talk to you.

If you'd rather throw a costume party, he's completely on board for that too. He's helping you hang the decorations that go up high and insists on lifting anything heavy for you. If you're a handmade decoration/costume kind of person, he's showering your work in compliments and will be over the moon if you make something for him.

Speaking of costumes, he lets you go all out on any spooky facepaint/makeup that will complete his look.

He loves taking fall walks with you and thinks it's adorable when you purposely walk on the fallen leaves to get that satisfying crunch and will do it with you. Anyone watching might think you two are being childish, but you're too busy having fun crouching leaves and giggling with him.

He's always making sure you bundle up enough - he is a doctor after all and wouldn't want you to catch a cold. But of course if you do, he's there to the rescue and insists on taking expert care of you. If you don't have or didn't bring a good enough coat, he'll offer up his (never mind the fact that he's risking a cold himself; "don't worry, I'm a doctor, I'll nurse myself back to health in no time").

He becomes an expert hot chocolate/tea/coffee (whatever your preference is) maker just for you and will make the coziest set up by the fireplace with hot drinks, blankets, and whatever books/hobbies you two enjoy together.

I can totally see him also being the type to plant some apple trees in his backyard pre-relationship specifically so he can learn to make cider and bring it to you as a way to impress you.

If you know how to knit or crochet and make him some gloves or a sweater for the incoming cold season, he gives you the biggest puppy eyes when you give them to him. He'll treat them like gold and hardly ever has them away from his person.

He never knew much about the gothic aesthetic before he met you, but is fascinated by it once you introduce it to him - especially if he visits your house and it's designed/decorated in that style - and thinks it's gorgeous.

If he sees something in a shop that he thinks you'd like that would match your love of all things fall and/or goth, he'll buy it for you without hesitation and be so cute and bashful about giving it to you.

He won't hear a word if anyone tries to insult your style and reminds you he thinks you're the most gorgeous person on the planet.

so i just decided that Kai adopted a stray cat because it was all battered and hurt and it would have died, so now there’s this old limping vicious cat who goes rodent hunting in his ship (also Gunnar doesnt like cats so Kai actually gives it some treats everytime it goes to scare him) and the cat is blind in one eye because kids threw rocks at it and stuff and its absolutelly vicious to everyone but Kai, and it smells absolutely foul too 🤷‍♀️

・You were not royalty.

・Nor were you a princess/prince...

・You were what some called a privateer, and others... well, they just called you a pirate.

・But you didn’t care what they called you, as long as said people didn’t notice their valuables were missing

・Arthur thought he knew chaos, he was pretty chaotic himself. He was used to it, he grew up with it. Chaos was embedded into his very blood.

・Yeah, and then he met you.

・Maybe you felt safe to him; as if you reminded him of home, of his childhood.

・But you were a hindrance to his trading on the seas, especially through certain ports; where you liked to plunder the most.

・And King Arthur knew he had to do something about that.

・He didn’t think it would end in a betrothal.

・Well, when he first met you - that was the furthest concept from his mind. The first was anger, then impressed, mixed with a hint of jealousy. You had your freedom.

・And although Arthur wouldn’t trade his position for the world, he did miss his freedom.

・But leadership was in Arthur’s blood, so jealousy soon dissipated with responsibility taking its place

・You were an odd couple, well you still are. And many people question why the King would betroth himself to a criminal

・But your betrothal initially wasn’t about love- it was to unite your world with his, so that those seas were safe and other pirates would see Arthur as trustworthy

・So basically he’s marrying you for everyone’s peace

・And then there was love. It peaked its head around the corner and then all at once, smothered the two of you.

・Your love can feel overwhelming, and yet, it was something that you never wanted to lose

・You weren’t used to having such a secure person in your life. Someone who was bound to you, who would never leave you.

・He proposed the idea the 4th time you met. On the first meeting, you nearly killed him. And on the second, he stormed off your ship. Something happened on the third that you couldn’t understand. And on the fourth ... well ... here you are

・You moved into the castle, although many of your belongings were still on your ship. Arthur swore to never take anything away from you, to never belittle you or take away your freedom.

・In all honesty, you felt as if you had hit some kind of jackpot. And maybe you did feel a bit like a traitor for betrothing yourself to a King, but that meant extra protection for you and your crew.

・You wear a (insert your favourite gem: ruby, emerald, sapphire, diamond, opal etc,) ring on your left-hand ring finger, which signifies your engagement to the King

・You already sleep in the same bed; with Arthur usually being the first to wake each morning.

・He likes to kiss your forehead while you sleep

・You wear his clothes, and he loves it

・And you’ve taken him sailing on your Frigate ship

・Your crew was wary of Arthur at first - they didn’t know what to expect, well they were expecting to be jailed for piracy. But Arthur’s motto has wrung true,: “Why have enemies when you can have friends?”

- this may make him sound like an old man (to the others, more so Benny than anyone) but the man loves tea

- he finds it soothing

- if he's had a hard day, he’ll have a cup of tea before bed

- if he’s in the mood for something non-alcoholic and something that’s not water… he’ll have tea

- Seraphina and Santiago are the only ones who help him with his “addiction” ... by supplying him with more (if it keeps him calm and happy, why not give him more?)

- after she left, he would get packages at his place with no return address, as wary as he was, he did open all of them and found all kinds of different types of tea’s ranging from prepaid bags to tea leaves

- after putting his tea away in his secret tea cabinet (so Benny can’t complain or judge), he’d mark the day down in his pocket calendar (yes, he has one)

Ex: April 22nd, day 114, T box #14

- the funny thing about his love for tea, it started in his late teens when an old friend got him the wrong drink and well… you know

- hardly admits it (out loud, all the time) but he loves his “family” (sometimes his sister-in-law more than his own flesh and blood)

- like Ser he’ll do anything for those he cares about

- he’ll typically be on Benny side always unless Ser is right then he flips to her side (this is usually about the oddest conversations between the couple)

- the only reason he sides with her is because she has more information and hard cold facts than Benny’s quick little one liner’s

- he’s been Benny’s number one supporter for anything and everything for as long as he could remember

- Fights for the number one spot in the “Serenny” ship (winds up being number one with Frankie)

- a secret of his is that he wants to have a collection of pocket watches, this could have something to do with his counting out everything (you’ve seen the movie, you know)

- he also loves music, something Maryanne passed onto both the Miller boys

- whenever he and Benny here their mother’s favorites, they smile thinking about Maryanne cooking in the kitchen or cleaning around the house

- still has his collection of cassettes in storage (along with all the Miller family heirlooms like the bassinet to his nephew and niece)

- the reason he offered to do Rett, and Dannie’s scrapbooks is because he was looking through his and Benny’s when he was looking for the bassinet and realized how nice they were to look at

- he brought them over and showed Ser when she was tired and didn’t want to move during her pregnancy with baby Rett

- he also got to tell her embarrassing stories about his baby brother, which was a plus, for him (Benny sat in Violent, pouting for an hour)
