Got no replies to my question and couldn’t find ‘em so whatever if I double post :p
anywho meet the current link from tangled chains! They’re all based on the Zelda games I’ve actually played so that’s why some are “missing”, in order;
Ages, Wild, Spirit and Loftain. Cade, Phantom and Kokiri. Lastly Worlds, Ravio (shh), Dreamer and War

The Chain's preferred cup of tea. Because I've lost my mind.
Sky: Chai, specifically the more "spicy" blends. It gets cold up in Skyloft, and the Skyloftians use it to warm themselves up.
Four: Black tea, but usually drinks coffee instead. Though he will enjoy a nice cup of Oolong.
Time: Herbal teas. Anything with dried berries, herbs, or flowers, and he's drinking it. It's a holdover from his time with the Kokiri, and it's not leaving him.
Twilight: Black tea, he doesn't have access to coffee like Four does. He's a rancher, he's gotta be up early.
Warriors: Green and Black tea, but his are really expensive and fancy because a captain's salary can afford it and dammit he deserves it.
Wind: Chai, for the same reasons as Sky, but he prefers the sweeter blends. He still mostly drinks rum and grog let's be honest.
Legend: If it's soothing and relaxing, he's drinking it. A lot of his blends aren't even from Hyrule these days.
Hyrule: Herbal teas like Time and Matcha for medicine. He's a healer, so of course he's got some medicinal teas on hand.
Wild: Yes. He just likes tea. He creates his own all the damn time. Once, he tried to make tea out of birch leaves.
Spirit: Black breakfast tea with cream and sugar.

[ID: A lineup of the artist's designs for 12 Links. In order of height, from left to right, their nicknames are Tiny, Mask, Sky, Four, Shadow, Sailor, Tracks, Fairy, Glam, Slate, Vet and Rancher.
Tiny (Minish Cap) is 21 and uses he/she. He’s very small and slight. She has a healthy tan, hazel eyes, and wavy, light blonde hair tucked into the classic green windsock hat. He wears the Roc's Cape, a green dress in which the skirt mimics the forest minish’, black leggings, light brown gloves and boots, and a black waist apron. A golden chain strapped to her belt holds kinstones and a charm that resembles Ezlo. He holds up a mallet in his left hand. He has a resting bitch face.
Mask (Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask) is around 12 and uses they/them. They're short and stocky with baby fat still on their cheeks. They have light brown skin, dark brown eyes, and poofy straight blonde hair that goes just past their chin. They wear a Kokiri tunic and boots, a baldric across their chest, a joy pendant and silver earrings. They have the Kokiri sword strapped to their hip and hold the Fierce Deity mask in their left hand, looking off to the side curiously.
Sky (Skyward Sword) is 20 and uses he/him. He's short and stocky, built of healthy fat and muscle. He has light skin, blue eyes, and slightly curly, light brown hair that frames his face and goes to his shoulders. He has a green tunic and gold chainmail, as well as pants, boots and fingerless gloves. His sailcloth is pinned over his right shoulder and his loftwing's feathers are tucked behind his left ear. He has no visible weapons. He has an easy going smile on his face despite being tired.
Four (Four Swords Adventures) is 18 and pronouns match fronter(s). Four is on the thinner and shorter side. Four has light skin, grey eyes, and a short blonde bob pulled back with a dark grey headband. Four wears a white-and-grey four-panel tunic embroidered in gold with the elements and the hilt of the Four Sword. Said blade rests on Four's hip. Four wears a dark grey longsleeve shirt and pants with boots. Four gestures with a hand, looking a bit scandalized and annoyed.
Shadow (Four Swords Adventures) is about 18 and uses he/it. He’s skinny and a bit short. It has light, purplish skin, red eyes, and scruffy purple hair tied in a low ponytail. It has a scar on its left cheek resembling a shattered mirror. He wears a black hood over his black, four-panel tunic, pants and boots, the hood tip flickering with dark magic. It floats with a hand on his hip, the other alight with a dark flame. He smirks, showing off a fang.
Sailor (Wind Waker and Phantom Hourglass) is 17 and uses he/it. He’s lean and short. It has light brown skin, brown eyes, and very short curly, light blonde hair tucked into a green bandana. He wears a cyan tunic with the crayfish of his casual wear, a green sash, russet pants and sandals. The Phantom Sword hangs on its hip and it wears various gold jewelry, including a joy pendant. He brandishes the Wind Waker with a confident grin.
Tracks (Spirit Tracks) is 14 and uses she/they. She's a little chubby and of average height. She has brown skin, dark brown eyes, and a short golden bob that frames her cheeks. They wear an engineer’s uniform, stained with soot and oil, a red bandana tied around her neck, and gloves and boots. Her right sleeve is tied just under the shoulder due to her amputated limb. The Lokomo Sword is on their right hip and a chain of keys hangs from their belt. She adjusts her hat with an easygoing grin.
Fairy (Legend of Zelda 1986 and Adventure of Link) is 18 and uses he/fae and mirror pronouns. He’s skinny and a bit lean. Fae has brown skin with freckles, dark brown eyes and chin-length dark brown curls. Faer bangs are clipped out of faer face with barrettes. He wears a short, dark green poncho with 3 rounded points, the back two mimicking fairy wings. Underneath, he wears a green tunic, an orangish-brown longsleeve shirt, and brown shorts and gloves. Fae goes barefoot, faer legs exposed with several bandages and scars on them. The Magic Sword and an empty potion bottle hang from his hips.
Glam (A Link Between Worlds and Triforce Heroes) is 22 and uses he/him. He's fat with some muscle. He has light brown skin with vitiligo and stretchmarks, red eyes and short, curly blonde hair with brown roots, going just past his chin. He wears a long, pastel green dress under a brown and pink apron stained with paint. He wears simple boots and Ravio’s bracelet. He holds the skirt of his dress with his right hand and smiles.
Slate (Breath of the Wild) is 20 and defaults to they/them and is also genderfluid. They're quite skinny and lean, favoring speed over strength. They have light skin with lots of visible scarring, cyan eyes, and long, choppy, dirty blonde hair in a braid that reaches their waist. They wear the champion's tunic, a hylian hood, pants boots and fingerless gloves, and the Sheikah Slate on their hip. They rest their hand on their other hip and give a closed-eyed smile.
Vet (A Link to the Past, Oracle of Ages/Seasons, and Link’s Awakening) is 24 and uses she/her. She's a bit skinny, taller than most of the others, with plenty of muscle hidden by baggy clothing. She has warm light skin, purple eyes, and a short pink bob with sidelocks that touch her collarbone. She wears a long green dress, pegasus boots, a brown longsleeve undershirt, and a purple scarf. She has a messenger’s bag over her shoulder, the tempered sword on her hip, the pendants of virtue on a necklace, and various gold jewelry. A decorated cane hangs on her back for when she needs help walking. She has a hand on her bag, looking over her shoulder with a flat face.
Rancher (Twilight Princess) is 19 and uses he/him. He's tall and has very strong arms. He has light brown skin, hazel eyes, and reddish-brown hair that's shorter in the back. He wears an altered version of the ranching outfit, with the green sleeve removed, pants traded for a skirt, and sandals traded for sturdy boots. He has no visible weapons. He looks a bit rugged, with several visible scars (thanks to exposing clothing) and sharp teeth, but is fairly welcoming and friendly in demeanor. He has a hand on his hip and a piece of barley in his mouth. End ID]
updated links meet au!! i didn't touch it at all in the past year but i wanted to start making stuff for it. unfortunately the old stuff was a bit outdated so i updated them
for a long list of personal hcs canon to the au, hit the cut!
Tiny
agender, likes girls (in a relationship with zelda)
talks aloud
was 12 during minish cap, which took about a week
stopped growing at age 12 (during her adventure) due to transformation side effects
resting bitch face and flat effect. tends to come off as apathetic but he cares A Lot
a large part of her magical ability comes from minish magic (transformation side effects)
when he shrinks, he becomes a minish (transformation side effects). this is not what usually happens but he used the portals enough that it did happen
his mallet is charmed to change sizes from something he can use in the forge to a weapon to bludgeon monsters with
has surpassed her grandfather as royal smith
incredibly wary of dark/black magic
Mask
enby and pan (currently has a crush on malon)
signs
was 10-17 for ocarina of time, and got yeeted right back in time to when it started post oot. maybe 6 months later, they set out in search of navi (majora's mask). hyrule warriors also happened about a half year later
common pattern is they get plopped back where they were before the adventure
they aren't very sure of their age and tend to age slide due to this—when asked, they go by physical age (this is why they are roughly 12)
skittish about forming relationships because they fear they'll be forgotten again. they try to act like a little brat to ward people away (surprise: it doesn't work)
as they chill out, they're less hostile but they're still a trickster
transformation side effects really freak them out + they'll try to “fix” it
has an incredible internal clock
Sky
trans and bi, in a polycule with groose and zelda
talks aloud
17 during skyward sword, which took about 10 months
his crimson loftwing isn't “special” bc that's kinda silly (to me). her name is epona
“i miss my bird, tails. i miss her a lot”
refuses to carry a sword around because wielding anything but fi feels strange. he is still the best at swordplay out of all of them, even if he's a bit rusty
the mom friend—but not overbearing, more like he'll fight someone to the death if they hurt his family
nerve damage in his right hand from catching lightning. tremors, pins and needles, etc. doesn't shake when holding a sword, oddly enough
chronic fatigue, narcoleptic
Four
all four speak aloud
16 for four swords adventures, took a little under a year. four and zelda revive shadow when they're 18
four is plural and is not usually in the same body, four does it sometimes for masking purposes (four's not too great at it)
the fronter wears their elemental charm
red (any pronouns, genderqueer, likes girls) is energetic and mischievous. he has the best emotional intelligence of the four. situational arsonist. likes to cook and bake. volunteers at lonlon ranch and dates malon
green (he/him, agender, likes boys) is good at taking charge within the group and is good at management, but sucks when it comes to interpersonal conflict and gets self conscious. he's very aware of his strengths and flaws, and acts accordingly. likes to carve wood, train, and ride epona
blue (she/her, trans girl, lesbian) is headstrong and knows her strengths. she likes to joke and tease but sometimes can go a bit too far. likes to sew, train and spar. dating erune
vio (they/them, nonbinary, greyaroace) is stubborn and dislikes not getting their way. they like to plan and come up with ideas or experiments, which are either great or horrible, no inbetween. they like to read and tend to plants.
Shadow
gendervoid, greyaro pansexual (in a qpr with zelda)
talks aloud
age is a bit questionable. are you 18 if you were mirrored from someone who was physically 16, then you died when you both were 17 and got revived? who knows
recently revived from the dark mirror! he's more or less a hylian now, but with dark magic. not as powerful as during fsa
is really, really close to his links and/or four. they tend to sleep in a dogpile
wears a cloak to protect itself from the sun
usually hostile and assumes the worst of people. conversely, gets attached very easily to people who show it kindness
Sailor
agender, aroace (considering a relationship with tetra)
will cycle between speaking aloud and signing
12 for wind waker which took a little over a year, 15 for phantom hourglass, hyrule warriors hasn't occurred yet
loves to entertain children with dramatized tales of his adventures
still carries aryll's telescope as a good luck charm
loves to brag about how cool its sister is
recycled the hero's tunic into a sash and bandana so it'd actually wear it
replaced the center gem of the joy pendant with a pirate stone! likes to lend stones out when they separate into groups
congenital hard of hearing. was shy as a kid, especially due to widespread sign language being lost with the great flood, but eventually learned how to sign and speak aloud. very good at lipreading. now will never shut up. likes to talk loudly and hear his own voice
Tracks
demigirl, lesbian (dating zelda)
signs. it takes a bit longer because some signs are unavailable
was 12 for spirit tracks, took half a year
enjoys coming up with outlandish tales on how they lost their arm
generally pretty open and friendly, except for when they're tired or pissed off by someone
sees ghosts
Fairy
agender, aroace
signs
was 12 for legend of zelda 1986, which took a year and a couple months, and 16 for adventure of link which took a year
has some fairy blood, when he left calatia at age 10 fairies helped guide him and taught him a bit about magic
shy sweetheart at first, but when fae opens up to you fae likes to play minor pranks and jokes (he, sailor and mask like to team up on pranks)
very good at foraging and other various wildlife skills, yet gets lost even with a map in front of him
Glam
trans and gay (currently single)
tends to speak aloud, signs when exhausted
was 17 for link between worlds, which took a year, and 19 for triforce heroes, which took half a year
is a blacksmith. does everyday supplies like nails, tools, utensils, etc, but can also craft weapons if necessary. forges all his own weapons
he and tiny compare blacksmithing techniques
paints and does art in his off time. it was originally a coping mechanism he, zelda, and the sages attempted, but he ended up really enjoying it and continued afterwards
the stereotypical camp gay. likes ‘feminine’ things like makeup, fashion and skirts
lives with ravio + is married to him for tax benefits/citizenship reasons. they're gay but not for each other
Slate
genderfluid, pan (defaults to they/them, in a qpr with zelda)
signs, uses the slate as augmentative/alternative communication when necessary
was (1)17 for botw, which took over a year and a half
likes to talk about their amazing friends
had plenty of time to confront their trauma and is proud of their land and people for returning after the calamity
knows every nook and cranny of their era's hyrule
doesn't know the difference between edible and poisonous. still manages to make delicious food that no one throws up later
totk is semi-canon, as in a lot of the setup is established, but the actual game events haven't occurred
Vet
trans, lesbian (grieving marin)
usually signs unless she has something to say and nobody's listening to her
kinda bitter due to grief, doesn't talk much unless she's being a know-it-all
hoarder. has lots of duplicate items or items with the most ridiculous purposes
wears marin's necklace under her tunic
as she deals with her trauma, she becomes more animated and sweet. it's not just marin she has to work through, though
also, marin is from the adult timeline just after the great flood and believes link has died. oops!
Rancher
trans, straight
speaks aloud
was 17 for twilight princess, which took a year and a half
still a bit hung up on midna leaving
closeted emo
trying really, really hard to fit into his lifestyle pre-adventure but is failing
knows he looks threatening so he tries to tone it down. it doesn't work all the time, especially when he gets angry
initially hated to leave ordon again, but he finally feels good again so he's conflicted
midna taught him her twili abilities towards the end because she knew she'd have to leave. he's still pretty good at them
sharp teeth and sharp nails (transformation side effects)
note about hyrule warriors: due to its status as not canon in the timeline but the appeal of time shenanigans, i've decided it has a tenuous place in the timeline. it's schrodinger's cat—it happened and a lot of the people involved in the war remember it, but it caused a time paradox, it's not written in the history books, and most peoples' memory of it was erased. hyrule warriors link will not be showing up but he may be mentioned at times.

the entire vibe of twilight princess is just *touches ground* something terrible happened here
edit: OKAY a few people requested/expressed dismay that so much was just in the tags so I'm taking them from the tags and putting them under a cut here :P i'm happy people like them
#no gerudo in the gerudo desert. the twili being the product of ancient magic mass incarceration. zelda's depression and guilt and fuckin#'i don't deserve a bedframe' type room. the triforce of power keeping ganondorf alive - what do the gods want? guess they must be crazy#or maybe we kiiind of fucked up (no gerudo) (arbiter's grounds) (there was a war in ocarina and we don't talk about it)#(and there is an implied war potentially one of attempted extinction hidden between the pages of TP's history)#(hyrule's very good at not talking about its wars) (zelda says 'this is the least i can do' and tries to kill herself to save midna)#(your shade from the past teaches you how to kill and tells you to seek power and teaches you to kill again)#(putting an enemy on the ground isn't enough unless you finish them quick)#(your shade from the past wears armor. the spirits slipped chainmail under your kokiri clothes.)#(the monsters that claw blindly at you are the warped souls of the captured. the benevolent spirits of light insist they're beyond saving.)#(the arbiter's grounds is so so full of the furious dead. in the desert. the gerudo desert)#(the princess sees you not knowing who you are but only seeing that you are a monster and are chained and she apologizes)#(zelda gives her life to save midna and when ganondorf dies she prays in silence)#no esteemed deed is commemorated here etc etc#anyway. ignore all that. i'm obsessively thinking about the idea/theory of link fighting on the side of the gerudo in the past of TP#(hence his appearance on Ganondorf's armor) bc it makes everything Even More Fucked Up#thinking abt this game depresses me so much. i love it

Jo lu fandom need some help!
I wanna try make a 9-days-drawing-challenge with the Lu chain, and my idea was "what if the hero wasn’t hylian?"
For some of the chain I already have an idea what the alternative version would be.
For example:
Legend: Siren
Time: Kokiri
Hyrule: Fairy
Four: either Minish or Wind tribe
Sky: Ancient robot
Warriors: Dragon
Wind: Rito
But for the others I am not sure…
Twilight: Human? Twili? Are there other options?
Wild: zonai(like his predecessor)? Blupee? Also a restless spirit? Korok?
Would love to get some opinion or headcanons how to change the boys.

Still working on my big info dump post about my silly lu au but i wanted to add my thoughts on where the chain (+spirit) lives/is from except my idea of a map is heavily biased from twilight princess with some re-arranging:D
Time
From Kokiri Forest (Faron Province), in Ordon for a while, currently at Lon Lon Ranch☆
Twilight
From Ordon*, still lives there
Warriors
From Castle Town, still lives there
Wild
From Castle Town, currently in Hateno Village☆☆
Wind
From Outset Island**, moved with grandma and Aryll to outside of Castle Town post-war
Four
From Hyrule Town☆☆☆, still lives there
Sky
From Skyloft***, still lives there
Hyrule
From east of Gerudo Desert (even he's unsure of where specifically), currently lives in Hyrule Town but visits Skyloft frequently
Legend
From outskirts of Hyrule Town, still lives there
Spirit
From New Hyrule, still lives there
☆Lon Lon is north of Kakariko Village, south of Faron Province
☆☆Hateno Village is northeast of Castle Town in Lanayru Province
☆☆☆South of Castle Town in Lanayru Province
*Ordon and Faron Province are northwest of Eldin Province instead of being southern most
**Outset Island is south of mainland Hyrule
***Skyloft is north of Castle Town on a plateau, overlooking Castle Town

The Power of Understanding / Part 8 (v2)
Rewritten/revised v2 posted on: 2023/09/10
Read on Ao3
Cheat Sheet Chapters: Part 7, Part 9
What is this?: Random snippets from random times of adventure of Translator!Reader and Linked Universe AU. Chapters are not presented in a linear way. If you are curious about an event, ask/request/comment! Summary: You have been with the Chain for a while now, as their "scholar" and translator. You know everything about them, because you are from our world. But do they know the truth about how you can understand everyone? Warnings: You will be uncomfortable. You will see things that look like gibberish. That's "Modern Hylian"! Based on the grammar book here. If you are interested in what they said... Well, stay tuned ;) (or ask! guess in the comments! go wild!) Some cussing. Angry Sky! Drunk Links!
____
It was a couple of weeks after Twilight recovered, after everybody learnt that he is the wolfie. And after Wild (that’s how you referred to him now, in your mind at least) found out that Four could… well, split into four. And it was also after the rest of the group found out about Wolfie's relation to the Old Man.
You? You weren't surprised at all when you saw that through the window of the room where Twilight was trying to win the internal fight over his life. You were pretty sure Four guessed you knew it too.
It was also right around when Vet finally stopped calling you the "trivia bitch" in a hostile mode, and switched it into a more "friendly mode". Probably the experience of almost losing a spirit brother kinda took his softie side out. Or maybe he wasn't that mad anymore because you also made him tell Sky about the bunny.
More like having a united front with Twi, and reminding him about the Master Sword situation, providing the group with more "trivia".
In your defense, you HAD to do it. He should have known better than to touch magical items randomly.
_____
You were staying at another inn tonight, which made you SO glad, you were going to be able to sleep on a bed tonight, you were between eras again.
Nothing against the bedrolls, but you just never got used to sleeping outside like that, adventuring and such. At first it wasn't that bad, since you could just snuggle in with Wild, but then you got your own at some point. And noticed that it wasn't actually that comfortable.
Plus, it was quite creepy sleeping outside that. And no, being surrounded by nine very capable heroes did NOT help.
_____
You were between eras, most likely somewhere before the Great Flood. How did you know? Well, the legends of the Hero of Time were known to the people, and there were stories about the reconstruction of Hyrule after "a big evil has been cleansed". Wind was quite disappointed since they were almost (read: probably quite a few hundred years before) in his era.
The concept of time really warps when you travel like that, you thought to yourself.
So in this era, there was no hero, there hasn't been a need for one, yet. The royal family was there, most likely Old Man's Zelda's descendants, but there were no crises or such mentioned, at least not in recent times. You were thinking about suggesting going to the Lost Woods, Kokiri should still exist, right? But what would the Old Man think?
For now, you were in an inn in Castle Town. Lucky for you all, Captain was quite the rupee holder, and he didn't mind. Otherwise, you were pretty sure you would avoid inns in the middle of the city. The guards weren't batting an eye to ten travelers with very sharp looking weapons either, which was usually not a good sign, but for now, you were able to get in and settle in there for a while.
Of course there was a reason why the Cap took you here. He wanted all of you to be able to have a drink in peace, and sleep in nicer beds. It's been weeks since you were in any familiar Hyrule (or Skyloft, for that matter, you haven’t been there yet). He cared about his troops and understood morale. Hah! Who would have thought?
"Hah! Praise Hylia!" Sky held his cup high,
"Thanks for this, Captain" and you had a little chink chink moment. Vet and the Old Man scoffed but joined regardless.
"Sometimes her mysterious ways aren't so bad, eh?" Wild chuckled.
"Not complaining over here about the current moment, but would prefer a bit less on the mystery side." Legend followed.
Between all the random chitter chatter, as you brought the tasty Hylian ale to your lips and a few more, you had a shower thought moment. Huh…
"Guys, guys, guys!" you exclaimed.
They turned their heads at you.
"You guys do realize that it's possible that Hylia doesn't actually exist, right?"
They looked at you like you were a complete lunatic. Well, you got used to it.
"And the fish live in the skies," Legend added, rolling his eyes and laughter broke over the table.
"Darling, how many of those have you had?" Twilight pointed at the cups. His face was also flushed from alcohol a bit. Wild noticed what he called you, but didn't linger on it.
"Is it supposed to be some type of joke getting lost in translation?" Time questioned you, but he also had a grin on his face.
"No, I'm serious!"
Sky didn't look really happy about your statement, as he was the first one to realize, you actually were serious.
"(Y/N), what do you mean she doesn't exist? She even exists in our idioms, expressions…"
"I mean it's a shower thought,"
Right, they don't know about showers. You sighed.
"I mean it is more of a habit really, I usually say Jesus when I speak one of my world's languages, and in others there are no divinity/divine names, at least none that I use."
Sky looked as if you just committed blasphemy, Legend snickered, "Funny, I wish that were true sometimes but even I know she exists, isn't all this stuff her doing? Including our current 'adventure'?" You were glad you taught them about the air quotes.
"Look, don't get me wrong, some divinity is definitely involved but I don't think it's Hylia herself, it is impossible, in a way. You know Link," you turned to him, "Didn't Fi say to you, 'oral tradition, the least reliable' at some point?"
Sky nodded with cloudy eyes. "I still don't see the relevance? Oral tradition doesn't say anything about Hylia disappearing either?"
At this stage in your journey, he wasn't gonna bat an eye to you mentioning Fi.
You sighed. You were about to explain something that gave you your title once again. You hoped you wouldn't break anyone's trust.
"You know how the legend goes, yeah? She sealed the evil demons with the help of the hero and surface dwellers and the magic sword, then sent people up to the sky and created the cloud barrier and such?"
He nodded as you continued, "Do you know the rest of the story?" you locked eyes with him for a second, almost as if asking for his permission. You actually weren't sure whether or not he knew. In the end, the cycle did start with him, but there was one other before him and his Zelda.
He didn't seem to be protesting, at least. Wild did tell the others at some point that you worked with Purah and Zelda in the lab, and researched history. So that was still how they were assuming you know such things. The problem usually started when it was personal information. Sometimes the lines were a bit gray, however. A conversation for another time.
Sky, "Something about the Goddess doing something to keep him sealed? I mean…" he trailed off as he didn't seem like he wanted to reveal the fact that he had been there right after the Demise was sealed. And all the other shenanigans that happened with his Zelda being sealed… But there was a way around telling this, and you could skip his part.
"Right, so she is the one that made the spirit of the hero eternal."
The other Links seemed surprised by this information, Sky protested. "What do you mean? Pretty sure I'm the first, with the forging of the blade and all?"
"Hey, calm down. You are the first in the cycle, that is true. But even you know the legend of Hylia and the surface dwellers, from your time. It's that hero."
He stayed silent, the others also had curious looks.
"Right, so, after they sealed the evil together, the hero was gravely wounded. She felt for him deeply and was impressed by his devotion to his land, and I guess also felt responsible because these demons kind of targeted her and Triforce in the first place? As she used her divine powers to make the spirit of the hero eternal, she also shed her divinity, to be able to reincarnate as a mortal and meet with the spirit of the hero again. Of course, the phrase 'shed the divinity' is quite vague."
Sky knew the rest, it was up to him to reveal it or not at this point.
"... Then Zelda was born," he added, carefully.
"And you." you put your hand on his shoulder, smiling at him.
You continued, "...you are all aware that all the Zeldas are related, yeah? They are basically all descended from the same bloodline,"
They nodded, "And we are all linked by the spirit of the hero, and we can appear anywhere" Legend added, snickering.
"Well, some of us are also related by blood apparently," Captain slapped his hand to the back of Twilight.
Sky had a gloomy expression. You were very careful with your next sentence.
"As long as the spirit of the hero and blood of the goddess exists, the creepy stalker should be afraid, basically."
Everybody except Sky, nodded. They were aware, it was talked about before.
Sky's eyes widened for a moment. You tried to respect his privacy as much as you could, and gave him an apologetic look. Poor guy was probably still blaming himself. He could still hear the words of Demise like yesterday in his head. That type of stuff probably never left you.
"That evil shit is the biggest asshole if you ask me, look at him, he keeps reincarnating and keeps getting defeated." you continued, as if to make a point, took another big sip from the ale. You weren't sure if it worked.
"If you think about it, it's quite the love story," Four spoke from across the table. "Giving up the divinity to see the hero again."
Also very similar to the story of the Japanese imperial family, with Zeldas descending from a Goddess, but you weren't gonna mention that.
"Also, guys, look, I know some of you won't agree with this," you eyed the Old Man who just raised his eyebrow. "But I think it mostly works. In the grand scheme of things, since the Creation, literally tens of thousands of years have passed, at least… from his point of view" you gave a soft look to Wild.
"And even then, there are only nine of you in front of me," you put the mug down. "I know, even one is too much to subject to this torment, but do you see where I'm coming from? That means, in most parts of history, excluding civil wars, it has been peaceful. Thanks to you." you smiled.
The group stayed silent for a while, pondering.
______________
Grusa heliy radi neyura lenik, ti suemur tia gehunem, ti suemur!
Sky thought back to the words of Demise as he slayed him.
Your words were comforting, your logic was sound. He didn’t think about what his words meant back then, he tried not to think about it. He just wanted to save Zelda. He didn’t like what you implied at all, even though when it was discussed before, he already had a good guess…
Yet, even one more incarnation was one too many.
_____________
The ale kept flowing.
"So, with this logic, if Hylia doesn't exist, then who the fuck was I talking to via those statues, during my journey?" asked Wild, slurring his words. You weren’t used to hearing him cuss, except in… certain situations. Erhm.
"Man, that does explain why we didn't hear shit from those statues,"  Vet laughed.
"Come oooon… there was some magic presence to them and you know it," Rulie tried to ‘defend’ Wild.
"I mean, she kinda transcends time and space, so maybe some aspect of her remains via Zeldas? It just says she shed her divinity and she took a mortal form, it is quite vague you know," you continued. You weren’t sure if anybody was listening at this point.
Captain put this hand on his shoulders “Hey, it’s fine Champion, we all have our ghosts,” he had a sympathetic look on his red, quite tipsy face. “Maybe yours just sounded like a Goddess that doesn’t exist” he almost giggled.
“But but you know… she was giving me all these nice.. Vitality stuff? I felt better after talking to her, stronger?” He was protesting, then he pointed at you “She told me they gave me stamina wheels!”
Oh boy, this was getting out of hand, if he really used those words.
“Yeah suuuuuuuuuure, it totally wasn’t your own training and they came from the random stones you spoke.” Wind added. He was only allowed one, very watered down drink, yet he seemed amused.
“Hey! Says the guy who talks to a stone and has a funny looking stick!” Wild was getting mad.
“You KNOW it works! I contacted your Slate thing with it!!!” and Wind actually stuck his tongue out.
Sky was silent, it seemed like he was pondering.
The bickering went on for a while. This was fun and cozy, but they were getting really loud. Time was pinching the bridge of his nose, Twilight and Four looked as if they were almost passing out on the table, you could swear you could hear somebody snooze.
“Okay okay boys calm down,” you tried to get in between.
“Yeah? Aren’t you the one that caused this in the first place, (Y/N)?” Sky said he still looked a bit tipsy with his cute plump red face, but there was a certain seriousness, an edge to it.
You were taken aback. You have never heard him speak like this. A “huh?” escaped your lips.
“You say we are friends, and then you come and MOCK my beliefs, OUR beliefs? Hylia doesn’t exist? How dare you say that? And saying ‘in the grand scheme of things, it works’? What is wrong with you?” he slurred his words every now and then, but the message of it was clear.
He was actually standing now, albeit taking support from the table. He looked drunk, but you could see he meant what he said. You were speechless. Even Twilight and Four came back from their semi-sleep.
“Link, I…” you wanted to say  you are sorry but you weren’t sure if it would even do it. Your brain was already feeling quite fuzzy from the alcohol. He was right. This wasn’t some fictional made up thing for him. Even when what you said made sense, to him it probably sounded like you completely disregarded his experience. Disregarded Zelda.
"My man, you're seriously getting worked up over a goddess that probably wouldn't even spare you a glance if she were real," Vet chimed in with a mischievous grin, taking a playful jab at Sky's convictions. He didn’t understand. Sure, they all knew their Zeldas were connected with the blood of the Goddess. But they didn’t know how close his Zelda was. How his Zelda was the first incarnation of the mortal Hylia. How she had the memories from millennia ago. How she sacrificed herself.
Sky shot Vet a pointed look. "Vet, you might be the most skeptical person in this group, but even you can't deny the existence of Hylia,” Sky’s tone was… sharp.
Vet shrugged, not taking it personally, leaning back in his chair. "Hey, I believe she exists, all right? But that doesn't mean I have to like her or worship her. She's got that whole 'aloof deity' thing going on, and I've got better things to do than butter up to someone who's never around when you need them."
Time, who had been listening quietly, interjected with his usual air of wisdom. "Vet, while I can appreciate your skepticism, there's a difference between believing in something and having a personal connection to it. It's not about whether Hylia is real or not; it's about the role she plays in the lives of those who hold her dear."
Vet rolled his eyes playfully. "Oh, come on, Old Man. Are you saying you've had a heartfelt chat with the divine herself?"
“Yeah that’s Champion’s specialty,” Wind interjected.
Time chuckled softly. "Not quite. But I do believe in respecting the beliefs that bring people comfort and purpose, even if I don't share them."
The group exchanged amused glances, and even Sky managed a smile. It seemed your words had triggered a contemplative mood among them, leading each of them to reflect on their own perspectives.
"Fine, fine," Vet conceded, waving a hand dismissively. "I'll give you all that. But mark my words, if I ever run into Hylia, I'll be asking her some tough questions."
Laughter erupted around the table as Vet's sarcasm seemed to have lightened the mood.
"I… I didn't mean to disrespect your beliefs," you stammered, your voice tinged with regret. "I know they're important to you, and I shouldn't have made light of it."
Sky's gaze held yours for a moment, his eyes reflecting a mix of emotions – hurt, frustration, and a hint of vulnerability. He let out a sigh, his anger seemingly diffusing as he sank back into his chair, rubbing his temples.
"It's just... it's more than beliefs, (Y/N)," he murmured, his voice softer now. "Hylia is a guiding force for us, a source of strength and hope. And Zelda... She's more than just my... beloved. She's the embodiment of that connection, of the history and purpose we carry."
You nodded, feeling a pang of guilt in your chest. The weight of your words had hit you, and you realized how thoughtless your remarks had been.
"I understand, I truly am sorry," you said sincerely. "I didn't fully grasp the depth of what it means to you.”
He was silent for a moment, just looking in your eyes. Trying to deduce whether or not you are sincere.
Then he smiled. A bittersweet one, but a smile nonetheless.
You really needed to meet with this Zelda.

(Swings open door)  Yall ready for this? Anyways the idea for this was inspired by Vanemiin on Instagram (Link on the name) Because they brought fourth the possibility that Fado was Oot Link’s big brother, and Saria his big sister.
So the idea is what if the chain make there way to Kokiri Forest. Without the fear of turning into a tree because the forest knows they are heroes. Once they arrive Saria and Fado would be the first to greet their baby brother link. The chain be delight to meet the older siblings and tease the snot out of the old man. However as the introductions are being made they realize Wind is not present. Which startles them, until he pops out behind a rock grinning ear to ear, saying he saw a cool lizard. The chain unaware he was having a panic attack behind the rock. Because in that moment. Wind realized who two people were from his journey and it nearly bring him to tears. Because in that moment he realized how important they were to Time. And guilt would start to wash over him.
Wind would be friendly with both but defiantly keep his distance. Despite the fact Time was really hoping they become friends. Another factor Wind would be facing is a increase of ghost and spirits. So overall he’s not having a great time, but is trying to save face. Because how do you explain to the person you admire that his older brother was murdered by Ganon, after he left that timeline behind, and he was to late to help or save them. How do you just causally tell someone your seeing a dead man walking?
Anyways Wind would be having a bad time, then one night they ask him to conduct which he’s hesitant about by proceeds. Everyone would join and and Wind would conduct them in Fado’s theme. After the song is finished, and everyone’s cheering. Wind would take a step back, a few glancing at him, as Wind’s eyes roll back into his head, water starts gushing out of his month, and he collapse to the ground.
Which scare all of them, time would grab him and let Hyrule look at him. Before they take Wind back to times house and try to help. Wind would start running a high grade fever, and his body would convulse. Neither Saria or Hyrule figuring out why.
Over in Wind’s head, he’s getting to watch the memories of Fado from his timeline. He’s getting to watch the Flood, and watch Saria die trying to save the Deku tree. He’s watching as Fado begs for his brother to come back. Praying at the temple, and he gets to watch Ganon come in and slay him.
So yeah, angsty idea.

*reading the Four Swords Manga to refresh myself after taking yet another break from the Minish Cap figurine hunt, does a double take and almost drops coffee mug*
So was anyone going to tell me Four is the only Link with at least one alive parent still around who actually did something , or was I just meant to find this out by myself when going on a Zelda binge in preparation for TOTK?
Like, this man is a knight that gets captured and brainwashed by Vaati, duels his son thinking he is Shadow, but manages to snap out of it by throwing a dagger at Vaati while disguised as Zelda. He tries to curb Four's reckless tendencies and to remind him not to rush headlong into situations without his allies and to keep a cool head, it's not much but let that sink in like holy mother of Farore-
He couldn't have know that Link was really himself, he couldn't have know that Vaati wasn't actually the princess, yet he actually takes the gamble because even if he is exasperated by his son and isn't around much he actually cares. Honestly it arguably may not be much and their relationship will likely have some strain due to the brainwashing deal but it's something.
Just, let that sink in. Four is shockingly lucky in that department so good on him, him, Twilight, Time and Legend were arguably the luckiest in the parental figure/role model department (if we count Sir Raven for the time he was around after Link's uncle is gone, which I am doing so by the way, Legend really looked up to him and he's his ancestor and actually very hands on with helping him in the Oracle of Ages manga, a rarity in Zelda in general really and his uncle was also really nice. The only one who was quite as lucky to have a parent/role model actually help a lot in the plot was Twilight, because Time's Deku Tree dies pretty early in during Ocarina of Time after raising him with the Kokiri before the quest and thus can't offer him support and is, ya know a tree, kind of limited in action there). Maybe Wind too if we count Linebeck (this man stabs Bellum for the kid even though he's terrified and is disgusted with himself after the brainwashing for attacking him, honestly props and respect to the sea rat), I think we can also count Spirit if he's around due to Alfonzo? Though I haven't played Spirit Tracks in a bit so I could be wrong. Anyway, he's pretty darn decent and involved in the plot rather than just shoving it onto the Link's shoulders for one reason or another (unlike SOME PEOPLE. *Side eyes Gaepora in Skyward Sword for doing the bare minimum even though his daughter is missing and he's implied to have raised Link/Sky with her, side eyes King of Red Lions, side eyes BOTW's King Rhoam because he really wasn't helpful at all to either Zelda or Link and only did the bare minimum for the later, side eyes OOT's king for not believing is own daughter until Link/Time was already traumatized by the events of the game and coming in to spill the tea, side eyes- actually no, Dot's/Minish Cap and Four Swords' Zelda's father is actually half decent.), They could form a little support group or something.
... Now I want a fic where the Chain actually meets the guy and just, gets a lot of whiplash that "Wait a second one of us is NOT an adopted orphan in some fashion?", That or he just immediately integrates himself as a secondary father figure for some of the Chain members, give Time a bit of a break for a change in wrangling these chaotic green clad menaces (affectionate), someone to bond with Rusl and we can know someone other than Twilight has a decent father figure still around. That or the bigger and arguably more comedic whiplash of meeting Sir Raven, who looks like a young Time with hints of Sky what with the cloak.

Thinking about the Hero of Time makes me feel things.
Like, as he is in a surface-level view of Ocarina of Time, he is kind of bland and not that interesting, even though it can mostly be attributed to the limitations of the time. But with each new entry to his story, he just becomes more tragic.
Even in the first game he is forced into the shoes of an adult while his mind is still that of a kid, going on a quest no one’s gonna ever thank him for because he is sent back to relieve a lost childhood he won’t get back anyway. The only person that could still remember it all leaves him at the end without a single word and he can’t even return to his forest home because he knows he is not going to fit in with the Kokiri anymore and his real parents were both killed during the civil war anyway, so there’s no option of reuniting with them either.
And well, the whole of Majora’s Mask happens and that gotta put some terrible memories in you. And once again no one will remember everything he did for them, and that’s not even taking into account whether Termina is a real place or not. Hopefully it was so all of it wasn’t just some nightmarish and traumatic way to cope with the loss of a friend for both him and the Skull Kid.
And then by the time of Twilight Princess he is a regretful spirit that clearly died before his children could even get to have a lasting impression of him, since he was never able to pass down his techniques. The only real hint of his existence is a cryptic message on a tombstone in the royal graveyard and even that’s not clear if it’s meant to describe him or not. Suffice to say, he didn’t live the best of lives and it was mostly a chain of proving himself and helping others in need.
At least all other Links get a sense of peaceful resolution at the end of their own adventure. He is the only one who doesn’t, and it frankly seemed to get worse with each and every game, even when he isn’t the main hero.

In CTB it seems Wars and Sky the most devoutly religious. How does the rest of the chain, including Spirit stack up? Wind certainly didn't seem to care about horsing around in the holy spring at the start of CTB.
Everyone has a different level of religious devotion:
Sky is religious, but to his belief is complicated. On one hand, it is something very quaint and personal; on the other, he is so close to his god that he sometimes becomes overwhelmed by divinity he does not understand
Four is religious, but not devout. He believes in the goddesses and believes that he should worship them, but he also believes that the goddesses do not actually meddle with human affairs.
Time is not religious. He knows the goddesses are there and that they will meddle, but he is not going to shower them with any praise. Deep down, he just wants some kind of apology. However, having been raised Kokiri, he is spiritual and will show reverence to the spirits of nature.
Twilight is religious, but he does not worship The Golden Goddesses or Hylia. Having hailed from a community of non-Hylian humans, he instead worships the Light Spirits with Ordona being the guardian spirit of Ordon.* The Hylian religion of his era pay reverence to the Light Spirits as well, but sees them as the servants of the Golden Goddesses; which Twilight's people do not agree with
Legend is religious and does the bare minimum to be considered devout. He knows the goddesses are there and they are watching him, so he will pay them just enough reverence to let them know that he knows they're watching. He's the goes to church only on Easter and Christmas type. This does not mean that he does not respect religion. If anything, he loves learning about different religions across the world and will pay respects to the foreign gods he learns about.
Hyrule is religious but is not devout. While he worships the Golden Goddesses, he grew up in a different denomination from what is in Hyrule. That means that while he worships the same gods, his practices are different from other Hylians. He practices religion out of a sense of culture, but is superstitious with spirits.
Wind is not very religious. Hylian religion was lost in the Great Flood, and the religions that came after were confined to each island. I think Outset island has a very strong cultural identity based on the core beliefs of the Hylian religion, but they do not worship the goddesses. They probably have a local god that they pay tribute to.
Wild is religious and he is devout. Surprisingly, he is the one who feels like he has the most equal footing with Hylia (even more so than Sky). He feels as though Hylia regretted everything she put him and Zelda through and tried to make up for it by blessing his journey. He has a lot of complicated emotions surrounding it, but not worshiping her does not feel like an option.
Warriors is religious, and boy is it a little complicated. His era is very strongly religious in general, but his era also lacks a sense of closeness with the goddesses. He wants to believe that Farore has a hand in his every day life, but he has no real proof. It often feels like he is screaming at a wall. His religious belief is rooted in his desire to make sense of the world and his role in it. In a way, it's a coping mechanism.
Spirit's relationship with religion is... complicated. He does not have any gods, but follows the beliefs of the Lokomo: a deep reverence and respect for the spirits in the world. His abilities mean that he should be a religious leader, but he often feels like he has no space in his life for it when his heart is in trains. He used to know very little about the spirits until his adventure forced him to reckon with how disconnected he was to his heritage. Even when he learned more, he did it mostly as a means to understand himself and become closer to his culture.
*I have more thoughts about how a worship of spirits is a part of the Hylian religion, but to a lesser degree than it is in areas outside of Hyrule that I am too tired to get into now; basically, there is some religious diversity in the world which lends itself to different philosophical beliefs

I was wondering what everyone's in the chain's spirit would look like to The Hero of Spirits (which I shall now call Engie) would look like to him
(Inspired by this post by @the-wicked-bitch-of-the-best)
Sky- Sky is Hylia's first chosen hero and he has the entire triforce. While Engie has absolutely zero idea about Hylia or the Triforce, his soul does radiate a certain powerful engery to it. As well as does seem to have a connection to some other soul, which he eventually finds out is his loftwing
Four- For some reason, he doesn't just have one soul in him, but four of them. They blur and are jumbled so it's hard to distinguish them for Engie. When he separates, each soul is a part of the colors, which initially makes Engie very confused
Time- There's a sort of taint left on him, by the fierce diety mask. It's hard to notice when looking directly at him, but he sometimes spots it out of the corner of his eyes. But there's also a lightness and playfullness to his soul due to him being raised as a Kokiri and the friendship he made with Skull Kid after Majora's Mask
Legend- He can see that his spirit is a little animalistic, but he can't narrow down exactly why. It's not as clear as it is on Twilight. He also sees that there is some sort of darkness that clings to him. (The dark world)
Hyrule- Due to him having the entire triforce, his soul also radiates a very powerful energy to it. But his spirit radiates not only a magical energy due to all of the spells that he knows, but something very not human about him. Not like it is in Legend or Twilight, but something more ethereal
Twilight- Very similar to Legend, though the animalistic side to him is much more pronounced. As well as he as a similar darkness clinging to him (The twilight)
Warriors- Probably the most normal looking out of all of the spirits. The only really major thing of notice is the Triforce of power
Wind- He can tell that he has the power of the winds itself. The spirit almost never looks stable, like it's always shifting and changing like the ocean itself.
Wild- One of the strangest spirit's that engie has ever seen, but it took him forever to notice it. There were two souls in him, one that was very very old. The other one didn't seem to have anything that strange about it. But there was something else there, that had almost faded away

Of Children and Turtles AU
Another AU idea folks. If part of the title clicks in your mind then congrats, you are a big nerd like I am. Those who haven't then y'all cool regardless. It involves Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles with a nice flavor of found family. Once again, it's Majora's Mask Link getting this treatment.
Poor kid deserves a family that can stick with him through thick and thin. You know, without the gaslighting, abandonment alongside a magical forest getting in his way. He needs hugs, being told that it's okay to cry and some semblance of a childhood again. So the 2003 Ninja Turtles felt like a great fit, not just because it was the series I grew up with. Anyway...
Link ends up in New York a year before the events of the show begin. Enough time for him to get settled and handle his memory loss. Yeah, our Hylian Hero gets into a bad accident whilst traveling through the Lost Woods. He's separated from Epona, his memory shot to hell and a good chunk of his stuff lost as it had been tied to his precious steed.
What Link has is: his bow(no arrows), his gilded sword, Ocarina of Time and his Transformation Masks. His head trauma does unlock a dormant ability, the power to interact with spirits specifically the ones inside his masks. The Deku Scrub still has the soul of the Deku Butler's son while the Zora and Goron Masks bears a carbon copy of Darmani and Mikau's spirits.
More importantly, Link can not only communicate with them but also with the Fierce Deity. Although it'll take about a month before he realizes this. Back to the turtles, an unconscious hurt Link is discovered by Michelangelo. Mikey took him to the lair where the Hero of Time was nursed back to health by the family of five.
Just because Link has retrograde amnesia doesn't mean he lost all of his skills. Muscle memory helped retain his combat prowess much to the worry of Splinter and the turtles. If a child who looks no older than 10 fights similar to an armed soldier is enough to garner concern.
Once the Transformation Masks are discovered does the horrifying fact that Link is essentially a child soldier rears its ugly head. In the end, it is our hero's decision whether he would stay or head back home. Doesn't mean that our ninja family are gonna leave him alone.
So as Link begins to recover his lost memories, he is also given another chance at being a child. He is taught the way of the shinobi by Splinter as well but otherwise gets into a lot of shenanigans with everyone, before and during the show's events.
Out of everyone, Michelangelo would the closest to Link. Mikey's light-hearted and playful personality being the biggest reason. Someone that Link can truly be a mischievous gremlin around without the worry of being chided for acting his age. He knows Splinter, Raphael, Donatello, and Leonardo (April and Casey once they come into play) wouldn't judge him either but the nagging sensation is there.
Fierce Dadity (I call him Vallion) will also be present. Although it'll take a while for the turtles to get included but it will happen. I'm keeping some of the real goodies secret of course. Just know that Link isn't the only one who'll be getting closure, long waited reunions or much needed happiness.
The gang are also going to get dragged into the events of Hyrule Warriors alongside the Chain of Links. His nickname is 'Lotus' as it symbolizes his personal growth from his starting point in Kokiri Village to where he is now with the TMNT gang. The lotus represents purity, rebirth and strength in flower language.
Plus Warriors deserves a headstart on the insanity to follow alongside some parenting from Fierce Dadity and Splinter. Also Wind, Lotus and Michelangelo being chaotic troublemakers together.
Time's appearance is going to hit the gang very hard as well especially with Lotus. It's going to be difficult for him to see eye to eye when it comes to his older counterpart. He is what the boy would have become without kind intervention like from the turtles.
Lotus is what Time never had, a child who was still able to retain his innocence with a family standing by him every step of the way. No constant goodbyes or being left behind without a single word, scarred, scared and alone. Differences that will clash painfully for the two.
A tale of home vs heritage involving a lost child and a peculiar family like no other. Of healing, redemption, personal growth, clashing views as different two worlds collide. In the end a soul who has been lost for so long will finally find his way home once more.
That's it for now! Until next time folks, I'll see you later. Cowabunga!
Edit: I added a link to the 2003 TMNT series if you guys want to check in Vague Series Guide on my second masterlist. I'll also add it here for any who want to jump right in now.
