Eyes and Magic

(Quest of the Spider World Building)

The color range of a mage’s eyes give a hint to what kind of magic they wield. There are eight classes (elements) of magic. Light: Silver, but may have hints of other hues

Shadow: Black or the darkest shades of other colors

Fire: Red or orange

Water: Dark blues or blue greens

Air: Grayish blues

Earth: Browns

Lightning: Golds

Ice: Pale blues, the occasional pastel lavender

Nature: Greens

Clairvoyance: Indigo or various shades of violet

Outside of the eight classes of magic, there are changelings. They can be any race and have magic-cancelling abilities. They can change into anyone they see, so long as they’re the same race. For example, a dwarf changeling like Caspkar can’t change into an elf like Cera, but he could change into Dulsie, since she’s half dwarf and she’s his niece. Since Zieryk is half dryad and half wood elf, he could change into Dulsie too, but some of the cloud elf and dwarf traits would be harder to replicate. The better a changeling knows a person, the more accurate the transformation will be.

At least, that’s the idea for now. It could, of course, change.

As for our cast:

Dulsie: Lightning

Leivarre: Changeling, Clairvoyance, (Secret)

Lord Willows: Nature

Cera: Earth

Aeran: Light

Sky: Air, but she’s disciplined enough to dip into spell casting from complementary classes of magic

Naya: Water

Zieryk: Changeling, Clairvoyance

Caspkar: Changeling

Judeiras: Shadow

Eltha (Dulsie’s mother): Fire

Master Tompas: Changeling

I might add more as the plot develops. Chapter One will be out at some point this month, lol.

but let’s move onto more pressing matters while i get back to that later

the king is dead *jazz hands*

okay so i have a sneaking suspicion that the letter he gave callum was a letter that said he was to inherit the throne or something like that. though, isn’t that already obvious since he’s the oldest child of the king (even if he’s his stepson)? or does it only apply if you are blood related to the king, which means ezran would inherit it? dunno.

also i do acknowledge that rayla was hiding the fact that harrow died to protect them, but like, TELL THEM. even if they would have felt really sad and stuff ᵗᵐ, i feel like personally, i would have told them. because i feel like the longer you withhold the information, the more it’ll hurt when they figure out the truth. and i assure you, one way or another the truth always comes out.

also i felt so just like in shock while seeing the bond (for killing the king) come off of runaan’s hand. it was just so fast i could not process it. also the shadow hawk WAS SO FREAKING COOL. i was just amazed by that for a hot minute. but im not ashamed to say my first thought was that is everyone who was fighting there dead? is soren dead??? now, i wouldn’t say soren is the best person but the way he let callum beat him to impress claudia, never mind his own sister is just so 💗💗💗💗💗💗. also soren is kind of a hot snatch, and you can’t deny it, that’s speaking from someone who doesn’t even really have a type or anything.

okay, so yeah now my next big thing:

aunt amayaaaaaaaaaaa!!! aunt amayaaaaaaaaa! commander gren!!!! but mostly aunt amayaaaaa!!!!!!

eeee i love amaya!!! she’s such a freaking bada*s!! also she’s deaf, which is actually really inclusive of the show writers :D i think we need more shows with people who have disabilities and the dragon prince is a great one! it shows that you dont have to hear to be able to kick some serious a*s and lead people!!! also commander gren is just such a cutie. he translates everything for her, and THAT SCENE WHERE SHE SIGNS “I trust you, you’ve been my voice. Now you will become my hands to save the boys.” (translation from @redemptiionss—they have dragon prince translations for what amaya signs that gren doesn’t say!) AHHH!!!!! i mean that is just so sweet in like a really friendly platonic way. anyways i love aunt amaya and commander gren 💕

SPEAKING OF COMMANDER GREN. LORD VIREN YOU LITTLE TWERP WHY DID YOU UN-ASSIGN HIM FROM THE MISSIONNN??? ik he did it so that his kids could lead it obviously so they could follow his orders and do his dirty work but- you don’t know how much i wanted that commander gren screen time 😭😭 he just seems like such a funny guy

now that we’re back to the subject of lord viren-

NOW SHE CAN SLISH AND SLASH (reference 😉) AND SHE WONT LOOSE HER HAND!!!! i love rayla :D. the dragon is kinda cute. but he can’t fly. which kinda makes him less majestic but ezran is gonna train him!!!!

Chapter 5: What if I was Nothing

Silken droplets of guilt poured down from above. She leaned back against the cool metal of Jackie's garage door. What had she done? Why had every choice she made left nothing but crippling decay in its wake? He was with Misty now, not her. She made her choice ten years ago, and this was the consequence. It was hard enough for her to stomach the anguish on his face. Cera's stomach churned and bile rose in her throat. She felt guilty. She felt to blame. She had been to blame for so much, how much more heartache could she cause this man? How much more could she live with? She doubted she could really do either.

Jackie had left her temporarily to speak with a friend of his at el coyote about fixing up V's car. The rain was coming down harder now. Thunder danced seductively along the clouds, hidden somewhere in the night lights. Wrapping her arms around her stomach, she sank to the ground. Fingertips dug into the soft skin of her triceps. Pressurized anger so deep that it caused her to bleed. So lost in her own thoughts and self loathing, she never saw Jackie approach.

Squatting on his knees, Jackie reached out, tilting her face so he could look into her eyes, "This isn't like you, chica. Come inside. Get outta this storm." Jackie slowly rose, Cera followed suit. He bent down momentarily, unlocking the garage door. Large strong hands pushed the garage door open, he turned with a smile to show her part of his world now. Misty was right, as much as he knew he hurt her. He needed to know if the Cera he knew was dead and gone. He had to know that the love was no longer there. But she stood out in the thundering storm. Jackie looked at her, concern and worry painted across his face, furrowing his brow. He reached out, fingertips grazing the knuckles on the back of her hand. "Cera?"

"I-I shouldn't have made a sound. I should have stayed silent." Cera stared down the alley in front of her. Her mind told her to run but she couldn't find it in her heart to go through with it. Not this time. "You should have-"

"Don't." his voice was stern as Jackie stepped back out into the rain. A little water wasn't going to hurt him. His fingertips caressed her cheek, the thumb of right hand carefully touched her lips. How he longed to kiss her... "Don't say it."

"But-" she started to protest when Jackie cupped her face in both of his hands.

"Cera, please. Don't say I should have left you there. In that scav den. I wouldn't have left anyone there. 'specially not you." His eyes scanned her face. He didn't find the cold heartless bitch his anger told him he'd find, there was genuine remorse there. "I jus' wanna know why. Por favor. Ayúdame a entender."

Cera pulled herself from his hands, stepping into the garage. High concrete ceilings decorated with posters of cars, Night City gangsters and scantily clad women. In the opening on the left side sat a motorcycle. A custom ARCH. Cera wasn't surprised. Jackie had been riding bikes since before she walked into his life. On the right side, sat a bench press. No wonder he kept so fit.

Her hands trailed along the edge of the metallic counter. Worn but well read was the weathered spine of a book beside where she stood. Picking it up, she instantly recognized the cover. For whom the bell tolls by Ernest Hemingway. Had she forgotten it? Opening the cover, there was the faintest hint of black ink from a pen weathered from time. "To my dearest Jaquito. With love, Cera." She whispered the words. "You kept this?" She asked, turning to see Jackie standing in the doorway of an additional add on room. Glancing over his shoulder, Cera could see a sofa pulled out into a make shift bed, a hand made sand mandala pushed into the corner of the room. There was a small desk behind a few lockers that had a standard sized computer on top of it.

Jackie leaned against the door casing, his arms crossed tightly against his chest. "Why wouldn't I? I loved you, Cera. That hasn't changed. No importa cuánto rompiste mi corazón". he looked at her through expressive green eyes. Jackie was always an intimidating brute of a man. Even when he was young. But that never stirred Cera away. That woman was fire walking along the edges of a storm. Captivating amber eyes that let you know exactly what was up.

"I never meant to. I never wanted that." Cera said, putting the book back down. Jackie turned and showed her the bed.

"Storms gettin' nastier outstide. The coyote is empty now if you want, I can sneak you in. Let you clean up in the bathroom. Then we can come back here n rest." she didn't have the energy to argue, so Cera nodded in agreement to his proposal. Swiftly, Jackie led her out of the garage, through the back door of the bar and to the bathroom. Upon entering, Cera took a good look at herself in the mirror. She was a wreck. Invisible stitches along her neck barely visible to the naked eye. Quickly, she stripped. washing herself with hand soap and water. She would be lying if she said she hadn't washed herself like a homeless person before. Cera would have been lying if she said she was never homeless. The warm water felt good against her skin. Closing her eyes, she imagined. Imagined his hot breath against her bare skin. Bodies pressed up against the shower wall. Lips locked revealing secrets that only angels could hear, silent whispers writing poetry on their skin. Her skin flushed with heat forcing her eyes back open. She was still so deeply in love with Jackie. Time nor distance had changed that. He was impossible not to love. Hands gripped the edge of the sink as she stared at her naked reflection. He still loved her. He still loved her... After all she had done. After all the hell she had wrought...she doubted she even deserved it.

Still, Cera got redressed, slipping out the back door and back out into the pouring rain. The walk back to the garage was brief, stepping inside she could see Jackie handing her a pair of clothes. "Thought you might wanna change." he handed her one of his black t-shirts and a pair of red and black basketball shorts. Cera took them with an appreciative nod. Turning from him, she shrugged off the black leather duster and hung it off the wall. Without thinking, she undid the belt buckle of her cargo pants and dropped them to the floor. Jackie's jaw however hit the fuckin' floor. Her body was incredible. Well toned legs trailed up to a shapely ass with an hour glass waist joytoy's dreamed of. A picturesque tattoo taking up most of her back. Up on her shoulder blades was a massive stained glass monarch butterfly leading down to a shadow of a black raven on her mid and lower back. Jackie watched her in awe, as she turned slightly and caught him looking. Abruptly, Jackie looked away as Cera giggled.

"You can look, ya know? It's not like you aren't my husband." Deliberately, Cera faced him. Peeling off her brown tank top, leaving her bare breasts for him to stare at before covering them with his t-shirt. The silky material stretched tightly over her chest accentuating the small curve of her breasts and how chilly she actually was.

She stepped into the room, laying down and enveloping herself beneath the heavy blankets. "Can-can I join you?" She heard Jackie ask. Rolling back over to face him, Cera's jaw dropped. Jackie had shut the garage door but stood in the doorway of the adjacent room. His shirt was off and he stood in a pair of black jeans. His trapeze muscle on his shoulders hulked in comparison to any other man she had ever seen. His chest was broad with pectorals so large that if she laid her hands on them, she'd feel small. He had an incredible six pack that only added to his goliath size. Cera blushed before pulling back the blankets, shifting herself farther down the mattress. As Jackie laid beside her, she instinctively rolled over with Jackie following suit. Curling one arm under his head, the other draped around her waist. Cera felt him release a relaxing breath as she closed her eyes. She did not dream though; she only remembered.

I assigned my Quest of the Spider characters pokemon. Pokemon types are based on what magic they use (Fairy for light, Normal for changelings)

Dulsie: Kanto Raichu!! It's the perfect combination of cute and tough. Also, in the 90s anime, Raichu's best attack is Thunder Punch, and Dulsie would absolutely spam it.

Cera: Steenee for now. She's cute, she's sweet, and she's got a lot of potential.

Aeran: Snubbull for now. Bulldogs are associated with British royalty, and he's the next village lord. But dogs are also sweet, loyal, and can be kind of dumb even if they're technically very smart. Like Aeran.

Sky: swablu for now. Beautiful singing voice, looks cute until you have to tango with her magic, but she's kind of unsure of herself and her place in her family.

Naya: Drizzile for now. Our resident sharp shooter, she's kind of in an awkward phase right now, trying to find her place in her family outside of her twin (Sky) and their older sibling (Phaelan).

Zieryk: Meowstic, specifically male for obvious reasons as well as the fact that male Meowstic focuses on defense while female Meowstic is more offensive. Male Meowstic also has more of an understated design that works well with Zieryk's tendencie to fade into the background.

Leivarre: Golosipod. Okay, so she was actually really hard to figure out, because none of the spider pokemon fit her beyond the aesthetic of having the 8 legs and big butts. You know. Like spiders. Lol, but I had to give her a bug type and I went with Golosipod, because even though it's strong, its ability makes it look like kind of a coward, and Leivarre is definitely a coward in the beginning, even if she tries to compensate through her dry wit.

Judeiras: Shiny Thievul. I lowkey associate him with Sly Cooper, because he was once a petty thief and that's how he and Cas met in the first place.

Caspkar: Aggron. He's tough as nails and pretty stoic on the outside. But very much a big softie. Just bad at showing it, especially after losing his big brother (Orik, Dulsie's dad).

Barbie (2023)

Allan’s gaze is a symphony of sadness. How has Michael Cera not aged a day since Scott Pilgrim vs the World? Ageless to is his puppy-dog ennui which he channels so effortlessly. The fact that he’s tertiary at most but still worthy of mention speaks to just how stacked the casting of Barbie was. All of our Barbies and Kens are ostensibly the same, and yet they are all infectiously fun to watch. President Barbie is just happy to be there, Simu Ken is so much more effortlessly dorky-cool than the others, and Midge, well… we don’t talk about her much. Who better than Kate McKinnon to embody those dolls that get roughed up more than others? Will Ferrell is… well, he’s doing his cutesy-weird thing which worked as the father figure in the LEGO Movie but is just off-putting here. Helming it all is the unstoppable duo of Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling. Robbie’s journey from a life of total but unfulfilling happiness to the leap into the unknown is about as committed and authentic as the movie will allow, and Gosling is the ideal vapid limbo who 100% isn’t gay. For real, he’s just fabulous.

But Barbie is nothing without her accessories, right? The other major standout of Greta Gerwig’s creation is its immaculately fantastical production design. Much like The LEGO Movie, this takes a pointedly and intentionally artificial approach. Nothing looks real because nothing should; this is a pretend land where everything is perfect and controlled. Products are integrated into the background to create enough Easter eggs to make the most die-hard Bar die fanatic happy. But it moves farther than that. This is a constructed fake world, in a literal sense. These are real Dreamhouses and props that the characters interact with, creating a tactility not unlike the experience of playing with a doll and imagining her immaculate world. Painted mountain backdrops and static waves keep this at a remove from direct reality, keeping this realized but not real. In a way, this feels like a postmodern Powell and Pressburger film, evoking Old Hollywood soundstages and painterly sets while telling a story with new sensibilities. Weird Barbies house with its winding path has to be a direct reference to The Red Shoes and its villa where the men revamp their ballet. There is Busby Berkeley too, eluded to in Barbie’s bespoke party but elevated to apotheosis in the Kenergy of the ir storming of the beach.

The scoff, the denial, was supposed to be the end of the conversation right there. And yet, somehow, inexplicably, Cera found that she could hardly stop herself; I was like she suddenly had to talk about it and, try as she might, she couldn't contain the abrupt flow of words.

"Except... that's a lie, and I know it's a lie. I don't want anyone else to ever know it, I'm the brave one, it's just who I AM... I'm not the scaredy one, that's Petrie, or- or sometimes Ducky. Not me!"

"But I... I have been scared. Am scared... more often than I want to admit."

Every word felt like pulling teeth, but somehow Cera knew that she wasn't going to be able to stop until she'd got to the heart of the matter.

"I get scared of storms. I was scared of the big Sharptooth. I was scared when I woke up and thought I was all alone. I... I was really scared when I'd led everyone else off my own way and then lost them all and it was just me all on my own and I... I..."

Even if it had been obvious to everyone at the time, she felt so deeply ashamed to actually be admitting it aloud - for as much as she had matured since they had reached the Great Valley, there were some things that she was never going to get comfortable doing, and admitting her own vulnerabilities was one of them. And the next thing she had to admit, well...

WELL...

Her voice came out uncharacteristically small.

"And I'm scared of losing my friends. I've led them into trouble before, and if something happened to them, and it was because of me..."

The little three-horn girl buried her face in her foreleg, her voice coming out shameful and muffled.

"Ugh. Don't tell anyone this. ANYONE. And ESPECIALLY not Littlefoot."

Sure, he was her best friend. But the two of them had an understanding; he would acknowledge her blustering that she wasn't scared in any given situation with just a knowing smile and take her at her word. If he heard anything of this, though, Cera was certain that he'd never let her live it down.
