I think the thing I miss most about when shows weren’t essentially 10 hour movies is that if the plot of one episode or a two parter set of episodes sucked it wouldn’t bring the others down. Thinking of a show like Star Trek DS9 specifically where there WERE overarching themes but for example Sons of Mogh doesn’t make Bar Association -which comes immediately after in episode order!- a bad episode, and it doesn’t in any way cheapen Past Tense I&II from the season before!
