THE MARVELS WAS AWESOME I HAVE GONE INSANE
Spoilers under the cut. Warning, this post ran away with me.
First off, obviously, this movie is a strong woman-led cast with men in supporting roles. I feel like, in order to move a society, you both need to make an active point about representation - which Captain Marvel did - but also need to start making a passive point about representation - which The Marvels did.
Because in a truly equal world, we'd see a thorough mix of movies, and it wouldn't occur to us that some movies had more men or more women or more white people or more latinos or more straight people or more gay people. Equal representation means that sort of thinking disappears. (As an example... do you have a sense of blue eye vs. green eye representation? Without oppression, it's just not a thought that occurs.)
So in a way, I felt like The Marvels was showing us what the world could be? Women as the focus, but that's not inherently noteworthy. Women of color as leads, but that's not inherently noteworthy. To see full diversity across movies and have that not be noteworthy. No single movie can give us everything - but The Marvels moved us in the right direction, and I want that momentum to keep going.
And gosh, the balance of the movie was incredible. The humor, the depth. I love how they wove something complex with Carol - that she had tried to do a good thing, caused genuine harm, and she didn't try to hold an entire people accountable. She took accountability and tried to fix it the best she could.
I also loved seeing her grow a little out of her stoicism. Brie Larson plays stoic very well, and she had a fuckton of emotional baggage in her history. This movie sees a slightly lighter side of her - she's had a little bit of distance from those harms. She's still working through that pain. But she is clearly on the road to healing. But healing is complicated (see above).
I absolutely love Monica. She's tough and clever and so stupidly curious. I've never gotten magic powers from my curiosity, but I have blown up a wall before, so I couldn't help but laugh when she reached out to touch the broken portal point because that resonated so much. I can't wait to see what adventures she ends up in in the other universe.
(Not gonna lie, I feel like there might be some queer vibes between her and Carol. I don't know if that will develop further... but if it does, god I hope they don't waste it.)
I need to see Ms. Marvel now, obviously. I actually intended to watch it this week, but life got away from me. Kamala is such a great character - Iman Vellani nails infectious excitement, and some of her family dynamics resonated strongly with my own. I don't usually watch stuff set for high school aged kids, but I gotta make an exception here.
I loved that the villain had some complexity (Zawe Ashton's performance blew me away), and that her people were ultimately helped in the end. The world is a complicated, messy place. But you can't hold an entire people accountable for the crimes of a few, and you have to understand how people get where they are (Dar-Benn wasn't a flat born-evil villain), and you have to try to help where you can even if the world is messy and you may make mistakes. (Granted, for most of us, helping means protesting or donating money or whatever, rather than reigniting a sun. But the less glamorous things are no less meaningful.)
And man, they just nailed the balance of the depth with the humor. I lost my fucking mind on the musical planet, and was laugh-crying when Memory started playing. All the little things like Fury's relief that Carol slammed into the ground just caught me off guard. Watching the initial chaos of their quantum entanglement and the ensuing montage was great. 10/10 experience overall.
Finally, gosh, the little Cessna at the end had me so nostalgic. My initial flight training and first solo were in a very similar aircraft, a Cessna 152. It looks like N5017B might've formerly been assigned to a similar aircraft, a Cessna F150L. (That tail number is now assigned to a Beechcraft.)
Let me tell you, cramming into a small plane like that on a hot Los Angeles day isn't always a pleasant experience, but it is a magical one.
(Carol, if you're reading this, you should know better than to leave a plane tied down for long! The poor baby needs flight time and regular maintenance!)
tl;dr - Go watch The Marvels.

This is going to be a very long post of my opinion on Buddy Daddies last episode.
I am very satisfied with Buddy Daddies ending because I was worried how would Kazuki and Rei become a real family with Miri when they have the organization pointing their guns at their back.
The answer is: Before the organization manage to do something, we're going to charge in first.
I love that.
The action scenes on this episode is *chef's kiss* They're still able to banter while fighting ("Domestic violence", etc) which I think very chaotic and funny of them. This show trully has dark humour like what Uchiyama-san and Toyonaga-san said in the interview.
Buddy Daddies is mostly a comedic show but they can be a bit gory when they want, like how they executed Ogino's death. I cheered when Kazuki, the one who's always seen as the weaker one between the two, stabbed Ogino and then Rei pushed him so the knife would cut through his throat. Don't you think it's awesome how he was obsessed with people's last words but he couldn't say his or even write because Kazuki immediately burned the kitchen. Also, I noticed Kazuki probably used Rei's lighter, the one Rei gave him last episode!
Rei's confrontation with his dad is also well executed. I didn't think Rei would dare to shoot his dad, but he did! I also like how his dad warned him that even if Rei kills him, the organization still has his back and he could never escape his blood-ties with the Suwa family. His dad even let Rei kill him. But Rei had other solution, that was making his dominant hand permanently disabled, thus making him weaker. He still could shoot a gun with his left hand, it was shown multiple times that the could. He would also be able to fight only using his left arm, legs, and head (he likes headbump doesn't he). But having a permanently disabled right arm would hinder a lot of his job as a hitman because it would be harder to fight (ofc) and also handling bigger guns (sniper? Idk the name. Rei was usually seen being a shooter from afar using big guns).
A nice addition that I like is when Rei walked out, Shigeki pointed a gun at him but was never able to shoot. Maybe, just a little bit in his tiny and cold heart, he still acknowledges Rei as his son, someone who shares the same blood as him.
Honestly I was worried at first like how the hell are they going to solve Rei's problems with the organization in a single episode while still having to close the season with something heartwarming. But, I am satisfied with how they executed it in the last episode.
Also, Kazuki and Rei being the best dads dressing as santa even though they were both beaten up, badly injured, and could barely walk only to see their daughter singing is a cherry on top. Your highness, they're a family!
But I didn't expect such a huge timeskip. Miri looked so happy and healthy, good job daddies. She also looked a bit like her auntie Karin. I love how the family are still in contact with auntie Karin even though she's Kazuki's in-law and Kyu-chan. Miri also knows about her mother's passing, so at some point Kazuki and Rei told her. Misaki must be proud seeing how her daughter has grown into a beautiful and kind lady.
The comment about Kazuki drinking out with a girl was kinda unecessary though because ignoring the "no homo" meaning, Kazuki hooked up with girls back in the days just to run away from his guilt after his wife's death. It was sort of a coping mechanism? for him, like how he was also addicted to gambling. I thought after he finally starting to move on in episode 7, he would stop going out with girls like Carol and Dorothy (where are they though, I need them in the last episode).
Anyway, I love the ending! For an orgininal series with a limit of 12 episodes, they executed it pretty well.
Kazuki and Rei might not be romantically involved with each others at the end, but they're still partners, buddies, co-parents. I'm pretty sure they love each others platonically, I mean how can you spend 10 years (and more) of your time raising daughter together and opening up a diner in Okinawa if you don't love each others. They were also strictly platonic since episode 1 so as much I had wanted to see them together, it would've been a bit rushed if they squeezed the romance only in the final episode. And them having queerplatonic relationship is really good, I rarely seen that in an anime.
It's also refreshing to see that in this anime, a family with two dads and one daughter with no blood relation is seen and treated normally by the characters, and also for the viewers. I read in one of the interview with the staff/PD that they wanted to explore an unusual family dynamics consisting of two dads and one child, where in the heteronormative society a family usually consist of one father and one mother.
To be honest, I read a lot of BLs with family/kids trope but to make a family consisting of two dads acceptable in their universe, usually they had to make A/B/O setting where the omega is able to be pregnant with their child. If they went for modern days setting, they usually make one of the father had a child with their previous wife, be in a relationship with other guy, but his child is oblivious about their relationship and doesn't really think of his father's S/O as his other dad.
Kazuki and Rei raising a daughter together (who is not their biological child) probably make people see them as more than friends, but no one in the series see or treat them badly. Kyu-chan only reminded them about their jobs and how may affect Miri, Anna-chan only asked Miri if she were happy with having two dads, the daycare moms only interested in how attractive they are and what are their jobs because they're rich as hell, Misaki never questioned about her daughter being raised by two men but only worried when she found out they were hitmen, even Shigeki who wanted to kill Kazuki and Miri only said having connection with other people is bad for business.
In modern days Japan where same sex marriage isn't allowed, I like how two dads raising a daughter together is seen as normal in the eyes of its society. The viewers too, whatever their sexualities are (because I've seen a lot of straight men liking this series), also see their family as something normal and are all rooting for their happiness. I think it's very neat, like the show really is telling the viewers that, "Yeah, the family is not considered to be what we normally have. They are not related, the child is raised by two fathers who aren't romantically in love with each others. But they are a family. A family can be formed in more than one way."
This is my personal opinion, but I think making Kazuki and Rei strictly platonic until the end is not only to focus on the found family part, but they want to convey the message of "A family that isn't related by blood and doesn't consist of one father and one mother can also work" to people including them who are in a heteronormative society. Because me being raised in such society knows that even with a single hint of homosexuality on screen, a lot of people would be upset and stop watching. That's just my take though.
In conclusion, this is a good series which covers the realistic aspect of parenting added with some actions and dark background. Buddy Daddies is now added to another of my all-time favorite anime by P.A. Works, one of them is Nagi no Asukara. If they are going to make a second season (slim chance) or an OVA, I'll make sure to be tuning in.

Hey! I’m super enjoying your pro-Joey Friends phase. It was my favorite show for a long time.
You had a GREAT post about how that relationship really grew and matured both Joey and Rachel’s characters, and I want to add that the fizzling of that relationship also DESTROYED Joey’s character.
Joey finally falling in love - real love - with Rachel made him see the hollow/shallow reality of his womanizing ways. His parents’ dysfunctional marriage really affected him early on in the series, and I head canon that he felt safe with Rachel. They developed that trust from living together. She was a person he’d never tire of the way that his father tired of his mother and sought out someone else.
When things didn’t work out with Rachel, the writers infantalized him. For laughs. Monica and Chandler joked that they’d have to have a room for him at their new house so they could take care of him forever because he couldn’t take care of himself. A grown man. Who had a good job and lived on his own since his 20’s.
If anyone should’ve been stuck in neutral forever, it was Ross. He was self-destructive from the start (Carol destroyed him and he never got over it and kept hurting other people because of it) and it would’ve been so satisfying to see him just stay in NY and raise his son and be a confirmed old bachelor. He had the temperament for being alone.
Oh! And one more thing: Joey was the first one to step up and offer to be committed to Rachel to help her raise Emma, and even tho Rachel turned him down, he ended up doing it anyway because Ross drove her away.
Anyway, I haven’t thought about all of this in a long time! But it’s been a lot of fun to read your takes and analysis. ☺️
Hi!!
Okay oh my gosh YES to all of this. OH the essays I could write.
I actually went through this exact same phase many years ago, and hadn't watched Friends in a while, so now just speeding through the entire series in a couple months, it's really giving me a different perspective than I had the first time. I'm also quite a bit older (you know how people change so much from late teen years to early twenties? It's crazy) and I have a different frame of reference for all the issues these characters deal with, since a lot of them have become my own issues now. There's so much nuance I didn't pick up on the first time around.
You are so right about Joey's character deteriorating after season 9. It's like the writers didn't know what to do with him except continuing his infamous saga of being an immature, stupid womanizer. He has no character development in season 10. Nothing pushing him ahead, nothing to look forward to like the other 5. Monica and Chandler having their babies and moving, of course, Rachel getting the Paris job offer, Phoebe and Mike getting married. What's in all this for Joey? Jokes about him being possessive of food and regressing back to how he was five or six seasons ago.
Infantilizing is absolutely the perfect word. Of all the friends, I would say Joey had the biggest development in the shortest amount of time, with Rachel right there with him. He was immediately ready to step up when she told him she was pregnant, without giving it any kind of second thought. In fact, he begged her to stay and live with him when she was so sure he would hate the idea. He was there with her at every turn, when she was scared about the braxton hicks, when she had so much anxiety about being a single mom, and especially when she missed going on dates and he made the perfect pseudo-boyfriend.
He absolutely felt safe with her, probably more than anyone he'd ever known. They're so similar in so many ways and he'd been living with her for years. Rachel couldn't even live with Ross for a year, or probably less (the timeline isn't super clear, let's be honest lol). She and Joey finally fell into this relationship built on an incredible foundation of trust and friendship (just like two other friends we all know and love), but they broke up because......???? of Ross? Or something? They were so perfect for each other, the writers had to bumble their way through a breakup in the weirdest way possible.
And then how do they treat Joey in season 10? Like he's the dumbest person who's ever existed. I get that he's not the sharpest crayon in the box, but they play up the stupid factor by about a thousand, and it's infuriating. I've always said he's the emotionally intelligent one of the group, but not even that is really shown in season 10. He flunks at the Pyramid game, he doesn't realize he's not speaking French, digs are made at his character, like you said with Monica and Chandler having a "Joey room" in their house. Sweet idea, horrible insinuation.
I mean, the man is in his mid-thirties. He's been through more life than Ross, for sure. I specifically remember watching that episode recently with Joey's parents and thinking how mature he was, how protective of his mom. And how angry he was at his dad, and insistent that he make things right with Ma. He's had to fight tooth and nail for a place in the world of showbusiness. He's had to watch all his friends find love and settle down and get everything they've ever wanted, while he's been in love exactly once in his entire life. He's grown and matured and when his best friend was pregnant, he realized that he actually wants to settle down and have a family. I mean, what level of growth and maturity does it take to realize that?
In earlier seasons, his demeanor was totally different. I don't even recognize season 10 Joey. They had to kill his very essence to explain their breakup.
And yeah, like you said. I think they wrote Ross into a storyline that -- if we're being realistic -- can only end with him being a bachelor and working at the university. He's never been able to live with anyone. He was a terrible roommate for Joey and Chandler, and he and Rachel couldn't last. Not only is he self-destructive, but he's destructive to everyone around him.
What kind of world do we live in where Joey "my god, she is... beautiful" Tribbiani doesn't get a happy ending, and Ross "we were on a break" Geller does??
Anyway, there's the essay for the day. My mind kind of ran away with me and I probably have more to say and maybe I'll organize my thoughts someday, but I'm watching season 10 as we speak and I'm just so. so sad. about how it all turned out. But I'll just live in AO3 Land and pretend Rachel and Joey raise their little family and grow old together and Ross stagnates and continues his precious tenure.

A semi-formal review of pre Critical Role live action Ashley Johnson content
*this is not an exhaustive list, just the films/shows I've watched personally. yes i am biased. Blindspot is not included but I do have many positive feelings about seasons 1 and 2*
Crime Scene Investigation, season 7 episode 21 : Ending Happy (2007)
Tumblr media
Character - Dreama Little
Plot -
When a has-been boxer is killed, the team must establish which of several life-threatening acts actually ended his life.
Review -
As someone who hasn't seen any CSI prior to this, I thoroughly enjoyed it. This episode puts Ashley in the shoes of a sweet prostitute with a southern drawal and more smarts than one would expect.
The episode was engaging and made me feel very empathetic for Dreama. She certainly stood out from the main cast in just a few scenes.
Rating - 8/10
Spooked Episodes 1-4 (2014)
Tumblr media
Character - Morgan
Plot -
Five paranormal investigators help the citizens of their city with everything from ghost sightings to possession and aliens.
Review -
This was a decent, turn-off-your-brain spoof on paranormal investigation shows. I found the writing to be a little shotty at times and many things could have been fleshed out more. Despite this, it was an entertaining binge at only 4 20 minute episodes available for free.
I found Ashley's character one of the most entertaining of the group. Quickly, a love triangle forms around her and sets off a lot of drama within the team but the resolution was an oddly sweet one.
Rating - 6/10
Annie : A Royal Adventure (1995)
Tumblr media
Character - Annie Warbucks
Plot -
In this sequel to the 1982 film, Annie and her friends venture to England where hijinks ensue and the preteens must stop a plot to overthrow the monarchy.
Review -
This was a fever dream of a film, but in a fun way. I didn't expect much going into it, and I wasn't disappointed. It was very childish but not in an annoying way. There was a song, which I enjoyed.
Rating - 5/10
The Failures (2003)
Tumblr media
Character - Lily/Lilian
Plot -
When a misfit teenager meets a suicidal outcast, she comes up with a plan to help him kill himself. Too bad love gets in the way.
Review -
This was the best movie I've watched in a while. I was completely engaged. The writing was witty, nuanced, and every character was so well done. Neither cynicism or optimism was the right answer, life just is what it is.
Ashley gave a standout performance here. Lily is so well done. She's not good or wise, she's just a dumb 17 year old who thinks she knows everything. Her intentions and motivations are messy just like everyone else here. Nobody is fully bad or good. They're all just people.
Rating - 10/10
Growing Pains : The Movie (2000)
Tumblr media
Character - Chrissy Seaver
Plot -
Jason and Maggie Seaver move back to their hometown so Maggie can run for public office. Quickly, things spiral into a mess when the kids get involved.
Review -
This movie was... fine. It did what it was trying to do, I think. When viewed as a continuation of the original series, it falls a little flat. I found Carol's relationship drama to be really boring, and the writers seemed confused on who they wanted Chrissy to be. Overall, there was a lot going on in this that makes it the far weaker of the two.
Rating - 4/10
Growing Pains : Return Of The Seavers (2004)
Tumblr media
Character - Chrissy Seaver
Plot -
Jason and Maggie are finally ready to sell the house and see the world now that the kids have all moved out. As it turns out, this is not okay with the oldest Seavers, and shenanigans ensue.
Review -
This is the far better of the two Growing Pains movies. The plot is much more engaging and the characters feel more like themselves. Chrissy also gets a lot more of a plotline here as she deals with her awful love life. Overall, it's a better version of what happens to these characters 15 years later.
Rating - 6/10
Otis (2008)
Tumblr media
Character - Riley Lawson
Plot -
Teenage girl Riley is the newest victim of serial killer/degenerate loser Otis, who just wants to take a girl to "prom". When a misunderstanding between Riley and her family occurs, they devise a plan to murder her assaulter... and get the wrong guy.
Review -
The first half of this movie was tolerable, almost enjoyable. After Riley's escape, the entire thing goes downhill. Don't let the box art fool you, this is the worst movie I have seen in a *long* time.
The only redeeming quality was Ashley's acting. She was wonderful as always and was the only character I felt any positive emotions towards.
Rating - 3/10

Movies I Watched in March
Once upon a time I only watched 3 movies a year and all of them were bad. Then I made a New Year's resolution to start watching respectable world cinema, and now my life is much better.
January's movie reviews
February's movie reviews
March's haul:
Tumblr media
mini reviews
Did You Hear About the Morgans? (2009): Hugh Grant romcom. One of those movies that's so bad you realize you've already seen it only once you've rewatched about 80% of it. Grade: F (Oops, I watched a stupid movie! All the movies I used to watch were like this one. This is why I thought movies were bad!)
Spaceman (2024): My first non-comedy Adam Sandler film. It manages to be both depressing and not take itself very seriously. Grade: A
Tumblr media
The Graduate (1967): Sooo saucy, awkward, and well-shot. The colors will stay in my brain forever. I love mixing neurodivergence with messy 60s US sexual politics. Grade: A
An Affair to Remember (1957): My mom's suggestion after I told her I wanted something as swoony as The Bodyguard. Having the main couple spend all their time apart in the last third of the movie is a terrible way to tell a romance.
At the same time, I wish we still wrote scripts as subtle and layered as this. The conversation in the last scene was chef's kiss.
Also, came out exactly 10 years before The Graduate, and the cultural differences are fascinating. Grade: B
Pan's Labyrinth (2006): I have a lot of unpopular del Toro opinions. His movies are overhyped and he seems better in theory (monster fuckers! nonconformity! anti-fascist!) than in practice (rigid adherence to standard storytelling arcs; extended Hollywood chase scenes; an unending obsession with the hypermasculine). Grade: D
Tumblr media
A la mala (2015): A fun romantic comedy about a beautiful woman who's paid by other women to flirt with their boyfriends and expose them as cheaters. Had more heart than it needed to. Grade: B
Uncut Gems (2019): More serious Adam Sandler. This movie feels like every New Yorker's absolute worst day. Grade: A+
All of Us Strangers (2023): Andrew Scott and Paul Mescal in a queer, dreamy film that keeps you guessing. I absolutely loved this and it needs to be rewatched. Grade: A+
Tumblr media
The Chess Players (1977): Historical drama about how the king of the last self-ruling province of India gives his country over to the British because he can't stop playing chess. Grade: A+
Carol (2015): Another film Tumblr overhyped. Not one thing happens in it that you wouldn't have guessed from the summary. Achingly slow. Grade: C
Tar (2022): I saw this in January and rewatched it, this time with a friend who, as the end credits were rolling, blurted out, "I didn't like that." Yet we stayed up talking about it, talked about it over breakfast the following day, and both kept bringing it up the whole week, until finally she said she was glad to have watched it just for the hours of discussion it inspired. Grade: A++, this is one of my favorite movies of all time
Roman Holiday (1953): Honestly, another movie that was better in my head than in reality. Grade: C
Tumblr media
Los pequeños amores (2024): About an adult daughter who moves in with her mom for a few weeks after her mother injures herself. Spanish cinema is willing to casually show a woman cleaning out her moon cup and it should be rewarded for that. Grade: A
Going forward:
I loved my introduction to Indian cinema and want to watch some Bollywood favorites. Also have an exciting list of queer movies to look forward to, and I'm still in search of another movie that makes me swoon as much as The Bodyguard did.
Really enjoying this journey!

So idk if you do request but from rewatching the OG Top Gun and reading the chapter you but out today, I was wondering if you had any head canons for if Victoria were to say “Take me to bed or loose me forever” to Rooster while they’re like out at the Hard Deck, and Victoria has like no clue that that’s what Roosters mom used to say to his dad
Yes, my requests are open and not just for anything related to Top Gun or The Dove and her Rooster, here you can find who I write for and here you can find all the parts to my Rooster ff (but keep in mind that my exams are coming up so I don't know how quickly it'll get done)
You gotta be kidding me...I literally wrote this in one of the future chapters but he gave her permission a while ago for her to use it😭😳 BUT I will write for this, who knows maybe I end up changing it🤭🤭 also this is my first time writing something like this so fingers crossed I do good
warning: implied smut, mentions of sex, mentions of orgasam(s), a bit long maybe
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Victoria and Rooster were hanging out at the Hard Deck with their friends (and Hangman) after a hard day of classes and training at TOPGUN
They were laughing, drinking, joking around
The team begged for Rooster to play Great Balls of Fire (yes even Hangman)
at first he was like "Nah, maybe another night."
one look from Victoria and that man was running towards the piano
(yes he is a simp) jkjk
when he got to the piano solo Victoria finally got up and went over to him, she was instantly pulled into his lap
"hiya you big stud." (she might of been a little tipsy)
as he was finishing the song, he heard those 8 words he hasn't in a long time
"Take me to bed or lose me forever."
when I tell you this man was in shock like big time
he didn't know if he was really emotional or really turned on
Victoria sent him a wink as she got up and planned to go back over to their friends
Rooster did not support that plan at all
before the poor girl could even say anything, Rooster already put money on the bar for their drinks and was pulling Victoria out of the Hard Deck and into his car
"Brad what are you doing?" she was half stunned and half turned on by his dominant side
he sent her a smirk as he opened the car door for her (always a gentleman no matter what)
"I'm taking you to bed, I ain't losing my sweetheart forever."
okay so maybe it was fully turned on on both sides
Oh, he took her to bed all right, they rarely had vanilla sex but this was something else, this one was for the records
10/10 would say again if it meant getting to orgasam so many times
after their intense session(s), the couple were cuddling on the bed
Rooster was stroking Victoria's hair as he spoke up
"Y'know...the funny things is...my mom used to always say that line to him, once even when he was playing great balls of fire."
Victoria immediately sat up and started to apologize
he gave her a soft kiss on the lips as he soothed her, not wanting his girl to feel guilty
"Honey I assure you if I didn't like it or wasn't comfortable with it, I would tell you immediately. Plus it was kinda hot coming from you."
the rest of the night was spent cuddling and talking, mostly, about Goose and Carole Bradshaw
Bradley did manage to say one thing before shutting off completely
"Show me the way home honey...."
with that he fell asleep with a smile on his face, thinking of his girlfriend and his parents
he was talking to them, in his dreams, and telling them what an amazing girl and pilot he had in his life
2,6,9, and 10 with Carol and Erenville/Vrtra!
Wedding prompts
Tumblr media
Erenville:
2) How do they propose? (Is it big and extravagant or small and intimate? Etc)
I can see it was just a usual trip for the two of them where Erenville told her there was a rare species he wanted to see and so they made their way to a nearby forrest yet at the end of the path they landed at a field full of daffodils... the breeze soothing, as she took a rest laying down in the fields unassuming... but then he asked her to give him her hand... at first moreso she thought just so he could hold it but then she noticed the small box in his hand... she almost started crying out of happiness that he wanted to propose to her... leaping into his arms almost knocking him over.
6) Will the wedding be big and extravagant? Or will it be a small celebration? Or will they choose to elope?
They both seem more like people that hold it smaller... maybe a simple outside wedding, the closest of friends and family being there... Carol doesn't like spending much money and Erenville suggested to collect some of the flowers themselves so the two moreso put own effort into it. So its a small nature themed celebration where the two can celebrate it.
9) What cake flavour do they go for? What would it look like? (Wedding cakes are the most important part of the wedding so 😳)(provide pictures if you can!)
Tumblr media
Ignore the dears... could be bunnies as a joke instead but... I would see it have like an apple to cinnamon taste...maybe some berries mixed in one part of it... flowers too be edible... maybe some chocolate frogs could go on it...
10) What kind of ring do they propose with? (Again, provide pictures if you can!)
Tumblr media
Vrtra:
2) How do they propose? (Is it big and extravagant or small and intimate? Etc)
I feel in this case Carol was the one to propose cause even if Vrtra heard of the traditions they have but still she wanted to make the first step in that regard... she knew she couldn't really take him far away from where he stayed so she decided for a night walk with him... holding his hands and being later cozy sitting on a bench with a blanket looking at the stars... she asked them if they would like to stay like this forever... before she showed a small box with a ring offereing the marriage as Vrtra nodded at her with a smile.
6) Will the wedding be big and extravagant? Or will it be a small celebration? Or will they choose to elope?
This one I see more bigger cause I feel its for the sake of Vrtras people too they protect... everyone is invited they will have a big feast and it will be greatly prepared to the max... Carol was a little overwhelmed but in the end with how pretty everything looked she didn't complain.
9) What cake flavour do they go for? What would it look like? (Wedding cakes are the most important part of the wedding so 😳)(provide pictures if you can!)
Tumblr media
My brain was uncreative on this one... I thought taste could work something Vanilla and simple... the gold ornaments give it some flavour in the end. Maybe a hint of orange citrus like.
10) What kind of ring do they propose with? (Again, provide pictures if you can!)
Speak of the devil (and he shall appear) (ao3) - Anonymous bucky/brock/zemo E, 5k
Summary: “Rumlow was a better handler than you. He gave me what I needed.” It sounded pathetic in his own ears, much less Zemo’s. His growl was closer to that of a despondent puppy than a wolf. “Rumlow gave me what I wanted.”
Bucky has no problem using Rumlow's name to call out Zemo for how bad he is at handling him. Zemo decides to give him what, or who, he wants so badly.
Stained in Red (ao3) - TheeWill peter/wade M, 22k
Summary: Matt Murdock is used to working alone. He doesn't work well with others and others don't work well him. At least it used to be that way until two men dig into his life with quips and cheap food.
I guess this is the start of team red.
Tension (ao3) - Heavenly_hyacinth peter/wade M, 12k
Summary: Peter gets dumped by MJ due to his “second job” AKA being Spider-Man. Peter realizes he needs to step back from being the famous web slinger and focus on his personal life. In the meantime, he starts to hang out with his—sort of—friend, Wade Wilson/Deadpool. They both start to realize that there’s much more than their odd friendship and they could potentially be more.
Unknowing Witness (ao3) - airas_story tony/stephen G, 4k
Summary: The two men in front of him wanted to get married. They had somehow made this Wong's problem.
Wong was blaming the Ancient One for all of this.
We're All Made of Stars (ao3) - MoreThanAFeeling (Daretodream66) steve/bucky T, 21k
Summary: Bucky is studying a nebula that keeps doing something unusual and what he finds is his childhood hero, Steve Rogers. How does Bucky not fall in love with the big dork? Spoiler alert: he falls.
Would've, Could've, Should've (ao3) - Shelios28 steve/bucky M, 31k
Summary: Or, when the Winter Soldier takes an injured Captain America with him after the events at the Triskelion.
Store Trek: Halloween to Holiday
Well, I went ahead and did it. I already posted the AO3 listing for it, but just in case you don't do the AO3 thing, here is the first chapter in all its glory. My original document, and what I posted on AO3, used left and right alignments to differentiate who was texting, but I don't know how to do that on Tumblr, so in this post I just labeled each text or group of texts. Read more under the cut!
Summary:
It's Halloween. You know what that means? TIME TO PUT UP THE WINTER HOLIDAY DECORATIONS! That's retail for you, dudes. Carol Freeman, the manager of Storefleet #2380, texts her daughter Beckett Mariner to come in for an overnight shift. Corporate wants those holiday decorations up YESTERDAY. Seriously, they didn't even want to wait until November. Beta shift is their only hope. This is the beginning of Store Trek.
Notes:
Okay, this is my first attempt at an AU. They say write what you know, and I know retail, and I love the show Superstore, so why not use some of its DNA to alter Star Trek Lower Decks according to my whims? Let's see how long I keep this series going. I'll do my best! This is in the form of a text chain, and I tried to format it accordingly. I hope it comes through okay.
(See the end of the work for more notes.)
Chapter 1: Freeman gathers Beta Shift for the Overnighter
[The text chain between Beckett Mariner (Department Lead) and Carol Freeman (store manager of Storefleet #2380), began 8:13 PM on 10/31/20XX, retrieved from Mariner's phone]
Contact: Mom-Ager
Freeman:
Can you come in for an overnight shift  tonight?
Mariner:
Ooh, sorry, can’t. Out of town.
Freeman:
I saw your Instagram post. You’re at  Jennifer’s Halloween party. She lives two blocks from the store.
Mariner:
Fine. Ooh, sorry, can’t. Don't want to.
Freeman:
Beckett.
Let me be clear.
You’re coming in for an overnight shift tonight.
Mariner:
What could we possibly be doing that  needs to be done tonight?
Freeman:
The holiday decorations need to be  put out.
Mariner:
Are you freaking serious? It’s not even November yet.
Freeman:
But it will become November during your shift. Hence why you’re putting out the decorations.
Mariner:
See, this is why I hate the holiday season.
No time to breathe.
You should be able to enter a turkey coma on Thanksgiving, THEN wake up to the holiday crap.
Freeman:
Look, I’m not saying I disagree with the spirit of what you’re saying. It’s not up to me. This is from Corporate.
Mariner:
Can’t someone else do it?
Freeman:
Everyone else who isn’t already coming in is at Halloween parties.
Mariner:
I’M at a Halloween party!
Freeman:
MARINER
You’re a Department Lead now. That  means more responsibility. Sometimes, you’re going to have to leave the party early like an adult.
Mariner:
UGH
FINE
But I’m gonna be wearing my costume
Freeman:
I couldn’t care less what you wear. Shift starts at 11. You’ll have Boimler, Tendi, Rutherford, and T'Lyn with you.
Mariner:
You better be bringing us donuts when you open the store tomorrow. Proper bribery is the least you could do.
Freeman:
We’ll see. You look great in your costume, by the way. Just like Uhura.
Mariner:
Shut up, I know it.
End Notes:
You made it to the end! I'm so proud of you. I originally wrote Mariner's text grammar as much looser, as I think her text style would actually be. She has no time for capitalization and punctuation! She's too busy kicking ass and secretly hanging around the warp core. Even though that makes sense, I changed my mind and just made everything grammatically correct, for the most part. It's just how I prefer it. If you want to imagine a few emojis thrown in there, I won't stop you. A note for the future: I am not completely sure how I'm going to be handling aliens or other normal Trek stuff. Part of me WANTS to just have a bunch of aliens in an otherwise normal setting. Maybe that's what will happen. We'll see. I am leaning towards this because I really want to have a convenience store called FerengiMart, and I'd rather have it staffed with actual Ferengi.
Series this work belongs to:
Part 1 of Store Trek
I really need to talk to other Carol and Caryl fans ab this. I need your opinion on 10×18 Caryl
So. I recently started watching The Walking Dead. A long time ago I watched season 1, but I didn’t go further because I was busy with my diploma work, etc. And so started from the second season , I notice some hints of Carol and Darl's relationship. It didn't interest me much, because it was something like banal ones, like the scene on the tower "screw around" . But over time, as their relationship began to open up, I found that it's deeply written down how complex and emotional the relationship is. This really does not happen often, and it's not just about chemistry. It's about the level at which they have each other and how deeply they care about each other, how much they mean to each other. And I started to like caryl. But here I am at the tenth e.
So, a lot of mistakes that Carol did., but you can understand on her. This character went through hell. Lost everything. And broke. And naturally, her actions would have to be subject to certain consequences, including in relation to people's personal changes towards her. But I want to talk specifically about Deryl. I think it's a very possible and real moment when Carol begs him to say something and he just walks away. It's very strong and epic. He just talked to her about how much he wants to help her how much he believes that in his place she would stop him he literally shows with his whole appearance how he needs her, she promises. And still unable to stop . He told her during that conversation so many frank things that he did not tell anyone and would not tell anyone so openly. But that didn't help and she literally tried to blow up the cave and commit suicide
Carol feels guilty, she does absolutely everything to achieve at least something, at least some understanding between them, but Daryl is moving away from her more and more. Okay, that's understandable, because she really made a mistake. Even after he warned her. Moreover, I would say that in such a situation one could feel some kind of betrayal on her part, because in the cave he talked about how he wanted to be near her, and she promised to him. It can be understood. Next comes the scene with Carol begging him " pls do not hate me". And, I think, in this case, again, it is quite realistic and adequately suited to this situation.But his answer gives an understanding that he wants to save their relationship that this is not the end. He gave her no more, no less. But he could at least behave differently after this scene. He knows how much he is dear to her. knows that in this situation, she literally lost everything. And yes, in part - It's her fault, because she just didn't stop when he said that three times, if not more. But like, she's your closest person. And you don't just leave a person in such a state, but you make it worse. Moreover, this attitude changes in accordance with his change of mood.
But, okay. Then comes the moment where he says "you still have me". And here it seems to me that here the characters begin to behave like mature people. Yes, he left her even though he knew she was suffering, she was suicia0l. He also needed time. Yes, one of them has risen to the pinnacle of error. But now, after you gave her some hope, you need to accept this and sort it out microscopically, including clarifying relationships between the two of you, build it again so as not to lose. But no🤡
I'm watching episode 18 right now. And right at the beginning of the episode, when Carol wants to go hunting with him, he acts like he hasn't said anything to give her hope that things can be fixed between them. In fact, he simply does not take responsibility for his words and behaves as detached and cold as before those words. He is like a teenager who does his actions not based on responsibility and decisions made, but because of a change in mood.You've already taken two steps back. You supported her in front of Maggie. You gave her hope, you said she didn't lose you. And after all this, you again behave more coldly even than before. Literally emotional swing. Why did you have to do all this after you give hope to a person. And of course there's a lot between them to talk about, there's a situation that still needs to be cleared up, but he doesn't even do that. He does not say how angry he is, does not try to talk about what happened, he just gives her an emotional swing, ignoring her, looking askance at her. and Yes, it's okay to go back to what's bothering you, even after you've given the person hope, but not in this way. In the end, he says that he does not want to talk when Carol starts. WTF. A child who does not understand that the way he behaves affects other people. As if his head still does not fit that his mood can affect the mood of another person that he is so important to someone.This is not a good way to show that you are angry, not after saying that she still has you.
He does not want to go forward does not want to understand this, does not want to talk about it , but at the same time, with his whole appearance, he shows that his attitude has changed even after he said that she did not lose him. He does not follow his decisions and words, it all changes according to his mood. and Carol has no choice but to accept it.
After such a situation, there are two ways out: you renounce the relationship and do not give the hope to person that everything can be fixed if it is too much for you. and the second option after you've gone through the anger. If you don't want to lose this relationship, you let the person know that you're there for them and then try to figure out what happened. No matter what, he doesn't want to lose Carol. That's why he said she " You still have me" . But at the same time, he is not able to stick to this, he is not able to cope with it and figure it out, he just starts to behave as coldly as before, arranging an emotional swing.
They have too deep a relationship for the first option. And it's obvious that he doesn't want to lose her. That's why he said he could never hate her. but at the same time he is not mature enough for the second option.
What Carroll does is she feels guilty and tries to laugh it off, can't afford anything big, tries to defuse the situation even though it's hard. And he knows it, and he puts her in that position anyway. And he tries so pretentiously to show his displeasure that he even looks accusingly at how she butchers the fish. And Carol notices it. "Let's say that I'm doing everything wrong. I can butcher fish." And you know, it's okay to feel what Daryl feels. When you are so upset by the act of another person that you involuntarily begin to get angry every time. But it's not that he shouldn't feel it. It's about how he deals with those feelings. And he behaves like an immature schoolboy with a changeable mood. But Carroll always gives him a chance to speak out. This is the most important thing, to try to resolve what has arisen. But what does he do? Not just ignores, but seasons with even more bitterness. And it's just disgusting.
And now I got to their conversation after the flashbacks about Leia. Carroll tries to comfort him, tries to make sure he doesn't feel guilty about what happened. How does Daryl respond to this?) He tries to prick her. After every episode, I try to read the interviews and about this moment, Norman said that he feels guilty about what happened to Kony. And in fact, it really is part of his fault because he made everyone else go after Carol. And at that moment, he just dumps everything on Carol to stop feeling this guilt. The same could be said from Norman's interview. And you know, it's very ironic, because at this point he blames Carol for leaving with him because she felt guilty. And so I decided to put everything on him. Meanwhile, when the truth is that he himself had just tried to inject her in order to stop feeling guilty. In the end, Kang said that he just wanted her to make the same decision that He made after the story with Leah. Bad way.
Deral has been my favorite character since season 2. It has a complex history and a long development. It is partly understandable why he behaves in this way, but understanding does not exclude the fact that this still remains immature and infantile behavior. Quite a traumatized man and as the show says, "He was one of the survivors before this whole mess started." It's no secret that he went through a lot of shit as a kid. But since the episodes where he ran away with Beth, I have been haunted by the feeling for a very long time that he still remained at the age of his trauma. He was incapable of dealing with his feelings and fear and took it all out on Beth. It's like he's still that traumatized child. And this is a very common practice in psychology, when a traumatized person, without being rehabilitated, remains at the age of his trauma, he can develop emotionally, but there will be triggers and moments when he will behave like that same wounded child, or a teenager who is not able to behave in a situation appropriately.
But the fact that this scene happened after he made Carol feel like he was there for her just kills. This is terribly selfish. He said so many unnecessary things and you can see how much it hurt Carol. If he really thought about it, then he should have said it before he gave hope to her.
It is quite obvious that most of their problems and the reason why they cannot solve them now is due to the fact that both are used that they simply understand each other without words. But now is the time when each of them is going through something new. Ordinary understanding is not enough here, it is necessary for the other to be able to speak. They want it, but they're not used to it. That's what Carol meant when she said their luck had run out.
Then, when Daryl asked her to speak, she didn't know how. After, with his help, it turned out, but the pain did not go away. So it is now with Darrel. He can't talk to her right now. But first, he gives her hope, but again moves away from Carol. Leaving her with nothing. He behaves according to his emotions and his mood. There are two obvious facts: he's angry about everything that's going on, but he doesn't want to lose Carol. But the point is how he expresses these two facts in life. He doesn't want to lose Carol, so after letting his anger go, he says he can't hate her and that she still has him, he tried to support her. And then again he behaves with her as coldly as before all these words. After all, she remembers these words and she has no choice but to try to build at least some kind of bridge between them again, to try to get closer to him again. And he looks at her desperate attempts and does nothing but aggravate her condition. In the end, just because of his emotional swings, he says things to her that he shouldn't have said.
So. What the fuck. I'm sorry but Carol deserves more. Yes, she made a mistake, but even Kally was able to forgive her, and Donnie is her sister. Because, as she said herself, she understands why Carol acted the way she did. And it's normal not to understand a person, but you need to TRY to understand if you already chose this path. If you want to maintain a relationship, in order to get off the ground, do not hurt yourself or the other. But instead, he chooses not to lose her, to tie her to himself, to give some hope , while giving in to his emotions without thinking about the other person, absolutely not trying to understand and figure it out.
I'm very disappointed. I already caught the spoilers of season 11. I know that a spin-off was planned with them, I know that in the last episodes he will say that he loves her and they will reconcile. But now watching this series, I just do not understand what the hell. I'm just confused right now about the way daryl is behaving. Because for me it doesn't fit well with his character after his development.
And you know, you can talk for a very long time about why he behaves the way he does. Because of his lifeguard complex, because he may have felt betrayed by Carol, because he stopped understanding her, because there are so many parallels between Carol and Leah, the people he was trying to save, but he failed, or due to the fact that he feels guilty and cannot do anything about it. Because it's not just anger, there's already a reason why he's acting like this AFTER he gave her hope. He is losing her. In the interview at the end of the episode, was revealed that Darryl wants Carol to make the same decision he made. And Carol herself also said that it was not about Leah, or Connie, but about them. Kang in the interview says that he wants Carol to make the same decision that Darrol made - the decision to be with his family to stay there (that's why he blamed her for comeing with him), to understand where she belongs. This is indeed the case here we are talking about something much more, and in matters that they are not yet able to solve. But the way he tries to deal with it is just immature.
And I'm very interested in what other viewers think about this, especially fans of carol and caryll
The Autumn that Changed My Life
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Piper's Pan was a classic family restaurant/diner that got shut down because the owner retired. Few but devoted customers frequented the restaurant, drawn to the delicious pasta and velvety pies made by a skilled female cook. Caroline was an ambitious woman who lost her job when the only restaurant that hired her without a college degree was shut down. She was in a job hunt for a year since the shut down, but all job interviews end the same. They like her attitude and cooking skills but decline her application for lacking a culinary degree. Caroline was a student who always dreamed of being a successful cook, so she didn't pursue college thinking it was the best decision for her career at that time.
She parted ways with her high school boyfriend because he had to go to flight school while Caroline was done with the student life. Her decision to abandon college haunts her.
A decade later, she finds herself trapped in a life far removed from her aspirations, and now, in her late twenties, she grappled with the consequences of her choices. She is not completely jobless. She works as a waitress in a fine restaurant. It is how she pays the rent. She also goes regularly to blind dates to find a husband and settle down as she puts it, but her luck in love parallels her luck in career.
The summer’s end kicked off a school reunion, an occasion both dreaded and longed for by Caroline. She was hesitant to go and let everyone see that she gave up the career she gave up everything for. But she also wanted to see if William, her ex would be there. So, she went on the day of the reunion. Amidst the chatter of careers and spouses, her encounter with Lizzy, a former classmate with a penchant for subtly disliking her, intensified her feelings of inadequacy. Lizzy’s recounting of her life’s triumphs, coupled with probing questions about Caroline’s singleness, unveiled a well of insecurities within her. Caroline regretted going since she always had a positive perspective and never thought her life was a failure until she saw Lizzy brag about working as a teacher and marrying a doctor. Lizzy went on about her life then asked:
Tumblr media
What about you Caroline? Are you still single?
Lizzy who doesn't give a chance to anyone to respond: 'I remember feeling bad for you when William dumped you to go to that Aviation University. I am sure you are better now'
'I broke up with him', Caroline said.
'That's not what I meant I m-'
'I am the one who initiated the breakup, and I was doing fine back then just as I am now', said Caroline.
'I didn't mean to offend you Carol dear. Don’t get all upset; we were just chatting ...I am glad you're doing okay! I heard you worked as a chef, sorry as a cook in a diner. That's good to hear'
Lizzy went back to talk about her life. Caroline felt relieved that Lizzy didn’t know about her other job. She would have answered had Lizzy asked but the less Lizzy knows the better.
Amidst the disheartening exchange, a familiar face emerged— the ex-boyfriend whose memory still held a place in her heart.
'...it's him...', Caroline thought with a beating heart.
The reunion unfolded, revealing a matured William, a pilot whose presence reignited a mix of emotions in Caroline. Their brief exchange echoed with unresolved sentiments and the passage of a decade.
As William approached her:
'Caroline...'
'William'
'I can't believe it's been 10 years', said William.
'I cannot either, I always thought I would feel old 10 years after high school but now I think I am just 28'
'I am surprised you showed up. Being a pilot and everything, doesn't your job take all your time? How did you manage to fit in something as insignificant as a reunion in your schedule?'
'It's not insignificant!', said William.
'I mean I heard sometimes pilots have to stay weeks away from their families so I just couldn't picture this day being this important.'
'I had free time. Don’t think too much about it.'
William walked away and started talking with other people.
Caroline in return, felt the urge to leave the gathering because seeing William had rekindled old feelings, she didn't know she had, and knows she cannot have.
Tumblr media
Next day, as autumn ushered in a chill, Caroline embarked on her daily routine, reflecting on the seasonal transition. The air carried the scent of pumpkins and mellow fruits, while the trees were covered in hues of red and yellow. The fall, with its crisp breeze, signaled change, and Caroline sensed it keenly.
In work, a woman who looked familiar was waving at Caroline. It was Lizzy and other classmates.
Tumblr media
'Oh my god Caroline you work here! I was sad I couldn’t invite you because you left so suddenly without giving any number but now that you are here, it must be fate!', said Lizzy.
Caroline eyes were half shut for a second thinking that Lizzy must have heard she worked as a waitress in this restaurant from someone.
'Well since you are all here, might I take your ord-'
Before Caroline finished her sentence, to her surprise, William was sitting with them too. Caught off guard, Caroline’s attempts to take their orders crumbled, leading her to hastily retreat to the sanctuary of the kitchen.
'I- I am sorry I have to go somewhere.' said Caroline.
On her way, Caroline bumped into another waiter knocking the tray full of bowls of soup he was holding which spilled on one of the customers.
'Can't you see ****?', said the customer.
'My apologies, sir', said Caroline while bowing down.
In a series of unfortunate events, the collision with the fellow waiter and an irate customer resulted in William intervening, defending Caroline against the customer’s ire. The day concluded with scoldings and a profound sense of shame, marking the second instance of humiliation.
When the night emptied the restaurant of its customers, Caroline found herself outdoors, gathering trash.
In the shadows, she discovered William waiting. Her sigh spoke volumes about her weariness. as she faced the unexpected confrontation near the refuse bins.
“I didn’t know you worked here,” William confessed. His presence shattering the façade of her composed exterior.
“Why are you here?” Caroline retorted; her vulnerability laid bare near the dumpsters.
“Couldn’t have picked a worse spot for a conversation. Next to the trash? Seriously? You want to see how low I can get?”
William’s hands gently encircled her arms as he offered an apology, attempting to bridge a decade-long gap. Their discourse unfolded in the most unlikely of places, near the remnants of discarded meals and forgotten dreams.
As William revealed a truth buried in the recesses of his heart, Caroline grappled with a confession that defied the passage of time. In the midst of the waste and beneath the autumnal moon, their connection rekindled.
Caroline and William slowly revived their relationship during this autumn. Same time next year they have already been married and they gave birth to a girl.
'I will name her Jane', said Caroline.
I really wanted to, but I was never able to get around to watching this one on the stage. Luckily for me, they ended up releasing it as a movie. Unluckily for me, the initial 5-day run fell during a busy work week that ended with me traveling for a close friend's wedding, forcing me to miss the run. Luckily for me, they extended the run for a couple more days. Unluckil... wait, no. I lucked out this time, and flew back from the wedding on a Saturday, meaning that I had Sunday to go before the work week would take over my life again, and I was able to go catch the movie (also lucky - despite my fatigue, I was able to be up and catch the 10:30am showing, which was stupidly the time of the only showing in that theater on that day).
This is a lot of fun - and I'm really kinda sad I didn't catch it on the stage to begin with. But, with that said, this movie is not a bad way to watch it. It was filmed on the stage, and they kept in the audience applause (and, occasionally, audience standing applause) and audience laughs, which did sort of make it feel like we were seeing it on stage (but with much better/closer camera angles).
Sara Bareilles is obviously the star of this show, but the entire cast absolutely nails it right from the start. The music is excellent. And the story, from beginning to end, is brilliantly done and told, and gives us the ending we want - with things breaking her way after she finally gains the strength to put herself first (arguably she may have waited too long, which was bound to happen when she decided to hide the money at home, but then, it is obviously hard for folks to break away from such abusive relationships for various reasons). Her work colleagues were absolutely splendid, and while their difficulties get less focus than hers, it is still cool to see them also get through them and get things turned straight in their lives.
There's probably something to be said for the very unethical actions of the doctor, both in his position as a husband and in his position as a doctor, but I guess we'll let those pass (for now?). He probably needed a better ethics course in med school, though - so whatever med school he went to probably should work on getting that under control before one of their graduating doctors loses their license because of some clearly unethical decision making.
I've seen multiple musicals lately (Sing 2, this one, Wonka, The Muppet Christmas Carol), and this one may be near the top of the list - partially because it is fun, partially because I've wanted to watch this for so long. Totally worth it.
I would love to hear your opinion on what you think is going to ultimately bring Caryl together romantically and the timeline of when you expect canon.
I got 2 similar Q's at the same time, so just going to incorporate a q about when we will explicitly see Carol's feelings into this one. Anon if you are reading.
So, to me it seems like they absolutely are going down the route of letting us into their true feelings via their relationships with Zeke and Connie. It is absolutely not my preferred method of this, however it does mean that likely one aspect of my preferred path to canon will come with it. And that is that we the audience will be let into their feelings before they let each other know.
It is the ideal way to do canon IMO because it gives the audience so much juicy angst and yearning, and not just the case where you have no idea how they truly feel until they kiss.
Up until this past week I was straight 50/50 on canon happening in the main show or the spin off. I can see benefits for both - I didn't know of it was going to be in the main show because it is their story, it started there and is now one of the core stories of the show, so it deserves to get played out and be part of TWD's history. On the other hand I could see them making clear there is interest in that way between them, but not having it actually happen, and keep it as a hook for the spin off so it becomes a will-they-won't-they show as the main selling point.
However, I am leaning more towards it happening on the main show now. If they are going heavily with this Caryl/Connie/Zeke thing now, in B, to me that means the resolution of it will come on the main show.
(And additionally, the secrecy over the title of the spin off is making me think the title is spoilery and reveals they are a couple, which means canon happens on the main show)
As for specific timings, it is so so hard to guess with Kang and co because they can put something in an episode then not reference it again for 8 episodes. But the way things are going, my guess it we will know both Carol and Daryl's feelings (but they won't know each others) by the start of 11C.
It feels like I should say that reveal will come in B but I am loathe to make that assumption due to filming spoilers which suggest Daryl, at very least, is occupied with other stuff outside Commonwealth (partly Leah, but also Maggie and other stuff) for most of B. So I can't see there being a huge amount of downtime for him talking about his feelings.
I believe that conversations with Zeke and Connie will be how we the audience find out.
In terms of Carol, I predict she will be cosy with Zeke, and either Zeke will say hang on, I am not your substitute here, I am not your consolation prize, I knew it is Daryl you want to be with, and Carol is forced to admit it.
Or, if Zeke gets sicker, or is about to undergo surgery, I can see him making it a dying (not that I think he actually does, to be clear) statement, that he tells Carol life is short, she needs to sort herself out, stop running for love and tell Daryl how she feels.
As for Daryl, I do think it will come via Connie. I need to see episode 10 before I can say for certain, but I don't believe Connie has feelings for Daryl. I think she will be the one to say, hey dud if you want her to stop trying to push us together, tell her how you feel!
I would also really like it if Connie told Carol that Daryl isn't interested in her the way Carol thinks, because Carol exists! I want more Carol Connie bonding and I would love to see this, but I think the other way is more likely.
My assumption is Carol's conformed feelings will come out first, because the big question is who will Daryl end up with so I can see th dragging his side out. But it would be awesome and empowering if his feelings were made clear before Carol's.
In terms of how it will actually happen, I have many different ideas. So so much depends on how the story ends up - with Commonwealth, with ASZ, with the kids. These things will all be relevant into the execution.
However, with this Connie/Zeke thing I do think it's most likely going to be in a sort of fight where one or both are making assumptions about the others' interest in someone else, and they are pushed to the edge and let loose.
I can see Carol pushing Daryl onto Connie, saying something and him getting angry and saying don't you listen to me?? It's not like that, and this is why.
I would like it if actually that wasn't how the actual moment of canon happened, that instead it came from them having a big discussion about why they fought and what they have been doing all these years and why.
One possibility is that we see Carol is doing all this stuff because she is doing all this stuff because she is preparing to leave forever. She is righting every wrong, makes sure the kids are safe, males sure Zeke is healthy and he had healed his trauma over Henry and broken-heart over her and can move on, and Daryl can have Connie and be happy.
When she finally reveals, or Daryl guesses she is planning to leave, I can see him confronting her, finally really resolving the true nature of their Find Me fight. And in the arguing Daryl expressed why he was so angry with her, why he hated her marrying Zeke, why he can't stand thinking she might always leave, and why wherever she goes he is going to.
That is my preferred method,because of the Find Me continuation plus it puts it on Daryl and gives us the confirmation for why we know he has repeatedly been angry at her - because he can't bear to lose her.
But only time will tell, and each episode we get will make the picture clearer
why do you like angela kang from caryl shipper perspective? what did make you to have faith in her regarding caryl ship and it's spinoff?
I think I should start with a warning - I do not trust any of TWD writers to deliver in-depth nuanced storytelling that is not plagued with missed opportunities. With that said, I didn't have much faith when Angela Kang took over as a showrunner, but she completely changed my mind with s9 and s10. WHY? Because she proved she is not Scott Gimple. It's that simple.
This got a bit long... so more after the jump...
Excuse me, Mr. Gimple, thank you so much for The Grove and No Sanctuary. But he is this show's worst showrunner ever. Congrats. He basically picked every thing I loved about this show and destroyed it, painfully slowly but surely. He was just jumping from one comic plot point to another, and he understands nothing of basic human interaction: all dialogue is delivered in riddles, lots of pointless philosophic dissertations that led nowhere, and he gave us less and less Caryl content. He turned one of the best chemistry/bond on the show into a meaningless 1 min interaction in s8! It takes talent! He took the joy out of watching anything TWD related, and I basically took one long break from fandom.
Then, Angela came along and she truly breathed life into a dying show. Characters started talking like normal people and interacting a lot more lol. Even though, she hit us with CZ, it was hard not to notice how Daryl had a major role in Carol's decision, and to a certain point, in Henry's life too. And that was not glossed over - Daryl became sort of a “mentor” to her child; and it was shown how he would do absolutely anything for Carol, and to keep her child safe. Then, he was the one there for her when Carol’s world came crashing down once again. Daryl was the one Carol leaned on, literal and metaphorically. She needed him around.... CUE to jealous!Zeke. And s10 happened, do I need to go over everything that happened in s10... you know! Running away together, Carol’s dream, talking about a future, look at the flowers ep.... I could go on and on...
I guess this is getting a bit long so I’m gonna go straight to the point - it seems pretty obvious to me where Angela’s narrative is going, and with every Carol and Daryl interaction we get more and more hints of what’s to come. Yeah, Caryl is coming! And it felt like the long journey started when she took over (season 9), and the train was going full speed ahead in season 10, until it was basically derailed by the pandemic, and then the announcement of TWD ending and the Caryl spinoff.
Of course, that journey is not without obstacles like Carol and Daryl’s deep-seated trauma that comes from both being victims of abuse, and their insecurities: the feeling they are not good enough, and feeling like they failed to save so many people they cared about along the way. I guess I will sound cheesy when I say this, but Carol and Daryl both have to learn to love themselves for who they are, before they can fully love each other the way they deserve to be loved and, finally, be happy together.
THAT’s what I think Angela’s getting at. Of course, there’s drama and angst and other possible romantic interests. Do I like or agree with some of her creative choices? NO. Of course, NOT. Like FUCK “leafy tea” and her waterboarding kink! Specially now, when it seems like Angela is just biding her time by delivering extra drama to drag out that Caryl resolution because the original plan (for Caryl to leave together at the start of s11) had to be changed. It can be frustrating. HOWEVER, I do want to give Angela a chance to finish this narrative before being too harsh on her. The show is ending! We don’t even have to wait that long to see where she is going with all of this.
WHY do I have faith in Angela for the spinoff?? Cause of everything I’ve seen in s9 and s10. We had some of the shippiest Caryl scenes ever. She did that. She brought the Caryl bond back, when it had been forgotten for what felt like too long. Also DIVERGED. That is the trope-ish shit ever! and Carol and Daryl are basically separated the whole episode. Angela has been pretty clear when it comes to understanding Carol + Daryl = SOULMATES. It may be a bumpy road but, no matter where it takes us, we know it’s a dream destination - CARYL SPINOFF!
I am not a shipper per se, though I love Caryl's relationship, and I think that the show would still benefit a lot from it, but it seems Angela Kang has another idea, and to the extent that she even no more cares about their friendship and it breaks my heart. The thing is I don't recognise them as my favourite couple anymore. Through all seasons, wherever was happening, their connection was always strong, and I was taking a lot of comfort from only watching these two on my screen. But now, this emotional connection is gone. I watch them, and it's meh. No more sparks fly. It's so bad that even the actors' chemistry doesn't work for me anymore :(
Idk, was it really so important to destroy one of the biggest friendships on the show to make the couple canon??? was it really necessary?
I remember when back in the day I was furious when the show was treating their friendship so casually, for example, after their reunion in season 7 and after Daryl's lying to Carol, the writers didn't continue the subject, and I was so furious when, in return, there was the whole season of nonsense of Rich trying to kill Negan. Now, history is repeating itself, but it is much much worse.
There are so many bad emotions now between these two, and nothing is resolved between them, and time is ticking.
I keep returning to the fight from Find Me, and I think it's absolutely impossible that Angela would have forgotten about it and that it must come out later, perhaps with Leah coming back too; otherwise, creating her character would be totally pointless. But this rift between them is huge and one scene between them shall not make it better, and I'm worried about how they are going to fix it on such short notice.
As I said, I don't care about them going canon, I just want the writers to give justice to this amazing duo, and I am afraid they will not. I fear they are so concerned over giving the audience this shock value which would be Caryl going canon, that they no longer care about the connection these two once had.
Sorry for that rant.
I just want Carol and Daryl from before season 10 back 😖
I hear your frustration, my friend. Speaking as a writer, I'd say it's very important to let two close characters experience a significant amount of turbulence because ultimately that's how they grow and though we convince ourselves otherwise, the chase to payoff is ultimately what keeps us invested. So Daryl and Carol being at odds is definitely not without purpose. The issue I think we're running into here is that the payoff is being delayed too long, and the further it's delayed, the more inertia we lose. All we can do right now is follow the narrative logic that Daryl and Carol are bound to be reconnected better than before, and hope that it doesn't end up feeling rushed. For what it's worth, though I very much would have preferred a cohesive arc from top to bottom, it is still very possible to deliver a satisfying story for them in the last 8 episodes.
