'what?' you asked, your gaze was inviting and warm, steve was sure he could be lost in them if he looked at you too much. his heart was about to beat out of his chest, he wanted to open up to you, finally tell you he loved you, but he was afraid you would leave like the others. and while he recovered from his old heartbreaks, he wasn't sure if he would heal from you. life would lose its color, drained of all vibrancy and joy, and he wasn't ready for that. his deep chestnut eyes were glossy as they held your gaze, so alluring that you blinked twice to make sure he was real.

'stay, please.' he pleaded, almost. you nodded without a doubt, causing steve's heart to burst with warmth. 'i'm always here, stevie.' you affirmed, hand grasping his as you pressed a soft kiss on his knuckles. 'you promise?' he asked, worry etched lines upon his face, hands reaching out to you with hope, desperate to cling to any type of comfort. 'always.' you murmured, peppering his face with kisses. 'i promise.'
