Having a trail buddy is an important best practice but even more so if you're disabled. Shout out to my brother for rigging this rope with theater skillz so I could drag my ass up this hill from our canoe to our campsite tonight 😅

The tiny channel through the reeds only revealed itself at the last minute, a perfect little shortcut leading on to a tunnel under a dirt road. Waterlily seed pods bobbed as we glided by.
Lunch stop at the foot of a craggy rock face carpeted with crunchy carpets of lichen interspersed with bunches of cowberries.

We spent another day and night marooned on Litsalo island waiting for the northerly gusts to calm down. The crayfish trap we had set the evening before was unsuccessful. It seems they aren’t fond of vegetarian sausage.
The large bird boxes - presumably meant for owls - seemed to be everywhere, though there was never anyone home in the few we checked.
As evening fell four mergansers appeared in our sheltered bay. Chasing fish in the shallows among the reeds, they had an incredible turn of speed and agility, travelling just under the surface like a torpedo locked on to a target.
