Alexandra Cabot was known for being ‘The Ice Queen’, she couldn’t deny that for a while it annoyed to even hear that nickname, but after a while, she learn to grow into it because she figured out that people feared her, which made her powerful in some way, knowing people wouldn’t want to mess with her. She knew how to get what she wanted, and if she didn’t, she would go out of her way to do so. In court, she wasn’t playing, she was also not doing it to be in the headline of the newspaper, she wanted justice and if she had to be The Ice Queen to get it, then bring it on. Everyone already knew that if they got under her skin, they were done for sure, the whole squad had seen it, hell, the whole precinct had seen it. Casey had seen it. Of course it hadn’t been against her, never her. She was probably the only person that had been safe from the Ice Queen, even when she did something that could upset Alex, she could never stay upset, she was her girlfriend, she was her weakness, and people knew this, but even trying to have Casey there to protect themselves, it never worked. And honestly? Casey enjoyed it, she just laughed and was the person to say, I told you so.
And here they were once again. Another case that had been handed to Alex and once again, they were trying to have Alex as their servant, getting them warrants for everything when they didn’t even have any proof nor reason to get them. They felt entitled to demand Alex to get them, knowing perfectly that Petrovsky would never actually agree, and she’d get scolded again, and if that’s what they expected her to go through? They were completely in the wrong, and she was done listening to them yelling around, specially Elliot that always thought that because his gut told him so, things had to go his way.
“I will not tell you again. Do you want the warrant? Then find me something that actually works, find me evidence, a witness, anything that is not your stupid gut. If you think Petrovsky is going to give me the warrant just because your goddamn gut told you so, then you talk to her yourself. And let me tell you…if I get scolded for it, it’ll be ten times worst for you.” Alex grabbed her briefcase and looked at Elliot again. “Until you get me something good, don’t even think about calling me or making me waste my time again.”
Alex walked out of the room without looking at anyone else anymore, the whole room had gone quiet and there was no one who could say or stop her. She had said what she had said, and that was the end of it. They all looked at each other, almost speechless for what had just happened. It was even funny how they were so surprised knowing this was definitely not the first time that Alex had gone off on them like this, and certainly it wouldn’t be the last either. Casey just stood there staring at them, not a surprise in her face as she looked at everyone. Elliot then stared at her for a moment, his eyebrows raised as if questioning if she could do something. Almost begging her for anything.
Casey chuckled. “What? You really think I can convince her? After that? You’re out of your mind.” She grabbed her briefcase and shrugged. “You know she’s right. Petrovsky has her eyes on us as it is. Another stunt like this, and both of us will be sleeping in a cell.” She walked to the door and then looked back at Elliot. “Don’t test her, Stabler. You already know the Ice Queen.” She grinned before she left the office.
Casey had stopped to buy lunch for both of them, knowing that after that scene, Alex had completely forgotten that they were going to go for lunch after visiting the precinct. She went to her office to drop off her briefcase and coat and then headed to Alex’s office, who was at her desk reading through the files. Casey closed the door behind her and smiled once Alex looked up at her, an annoyed look on her face. Casey raised the bag of food in her hands and walked to the small table beside Alex’s desk, putting the bag on the table.
“That was quiet a scene.” Casey chuckled softly as she looked at Alex.
“I’m pretty sure the gray hairs I have are not because of my age but because of them.” Alex sighed as she dropped her pen and stood up, walking to Casey. “You know, the other day, Elliot asked me how it was possible that you dealt with me at home.” She grinned.
Casey shook her head. “Did he really say that?”
Alex shrugged. “I know he didn’t mean it. It was the heat of the moment.” She smiled as she looked at Casey, her hand going to Casey’s cheek and stroking it softly. “How do you deal with the Ice Queen back home, Ms. Novak?”
Casey chuckled softly as she placed her hands on Alex’s waist and pulled her close to her body. “I simply start the teasing and she’s over it in an instant.” She smirked.
Alex raised her brows playfully. “Sounds like a good way to get her out of her trance.” She giggled as she kissed Casey’s lips.
Casey smiled against her lips and raised her brow. “See? She’s now gone.” She pecked her lips. “So now, sit down and eat. I’ll help you out a bit before I have to go to my arraignment.”
“You’re an angel.” Alex smiled and sat down, opening the bag to get their food.
********************
After the stunt that Elliot had put, he had come to an agreement with Alex once they found more evidence that Alex took to get the warrants they needed, which also helped her at the end to win the case. It was comical to see how after the case was over, either they won or lost, they completely forgot about the arguments or fights they had, sometimes it was taken personally, but they knew that after the stress and pressure, they could all say things they didn’t mean. And so, they all moved on. This is why they all got along so well, and they were a good team, they understood each other, and they’d always have each other’s back no matter what.
A few days after, they got another case, and this one was handed over to Casey, Alex had joked with them that if they didn’t want to get scolded again, maybe they should hand it to Casey, who seemed to deal with them better than Alex ever did. Yes, Casey got frustrated, she got into arguments with them, she had a tough attitude and always put everyone in their places, but they had not actually seen Casey going off like Alex had done so many times -that’s why the nickname-. As they went over the case, Casey already knew this would be a tough one; a group of teenage boys who raped three students plus the sister of a little girl, and two of those girls…were dead. Of course, the three teenagers had money, which made the case even harder because of missing evidence, missing witnesses, and a ton of bullshit from the attorneys. Casey had been in this situation before, and she didn’t want to make the same mistake again, she didn’t want to put the only victims and witnesses she had in the Grand Jury. She couldn’t risk it, she couldn’t possibly go through that ordeal again of convincing them to testify before the Grand Jury and then having them put in danger because they were brave enough to speak. She had gone over it with the whole squad, making it very clear that she’d only be presenting the statements and that was it, so they had to find more evidence to convict the three teenagers. But there was always the DA’s office that screwed up their plan and Casey always had to listen, more so after her suspension, she was afraid it would happen again.
Casey walked into her office and threw her briefcase to the floor, slamming the door closed and going to the very end of her office. Not only was the DA on her neck, but also Olivia and Amanda were eating her alive when she told them that the girls would testify, and she was still waiting on Elliot and Amaro to find out. Did they really think that it was in her hands? She wasn’t her own boss, she didn’t run the DA’s office. She had to go by the book, so they didn’t have her neck again, she was not about to lose her license. She really didn’t want to do this, she was willing to do everything in her power to not put those girls in that position, but now, she was in a position that if she didn’t do as she was told, they’d either pass the case to someone else, or she’d be punished. She groaned loudly as she slammed her hands on the table, and just in that moment, Alex walked into her office and closed the door behind her. She had gotten a call from Olivia, and she should go check on Casey, and here she was; her girlfriend leaning over the table without saying a word, but she could see her body was trembling.
“Case?”
“Not right now, Alex.”
Alex sighed softly as she looked at Casey again. “What happened?”
“Fucking Cutter happened.” Casey snapped as she breathed heavily, walking to the window, and looking out.
“Casey, the squad will make sure they are safe. Those bastards have hidden every possible evidence that can help you.”
“I know but…this is my case. He doesn’t believe that I have a case without the girls. I can actually do this.” Casey looked at Alex.
Alex walked to her and kissed the side of her head softly. “I know. We all know this. Cutter is just being an ass.” She whispered softly as she put a strand of hair behind her ear, kissing the side of her head again. “I know my girlfriend.” She grinned.
Casey smiled softly as she nodded. “Only you do.” She chuckled.
Before Alex could say anything else, Casey’s phone went off, making her sigh heavily and went to get her phone, picking up her briefcase and putting it on her desk. Alex walked to her and leaned over the desk, looking up at her girlfriend as she answered the call. She took her time to study her face for a moment, noticing that she had never seen Casey looking this upset, let alone trembling because she was upset, but she knew this case was important for her and she regretted a bit that she had denied to have this case because then, Casey wouldn’t be in this position. Just as she thought that Casey had calmed down, she could see that her cheeks gone red and before she knew it, Casey hung up the phone, grabbed her briefcase and out the door she was. Alex furrowed her brows for a moment but followed her rapidly. Something was definitely about to go down.
Normally, Alex wouldn’t be surprised on how fast Casey walked, after all, she played softball, but she was surprised right at this moment as she followed because she could barely get on her pace, and Casey was definitely in a trance because she didn’t hear Alex calling her name. She couldn’t even figure out what was going on before they were in front of the whole squad, Olivia turned to look at both women and she could already tell that they had done something and that was the reason Casey literally flew here. Alex just stood behind Casey, not sure what to do, but slightly jumped as Casey slammed her briefcase in one of their desks, staring at everyone.
“What the hell were you thinking?”
Amanda turned to look at her and sighed softly. “We didn’t have another choice, Novak.”
“You didn’t have-“ Casey scoffed. “You should’ve called me. That was your other choice. You. Call. Me. You do know this will be mentioned in court, right? The defense will argue that you showed up without reason, threatened them and Petrovsky is gonna come for my head when she finds out what you all did.” She shook her head. “I’ll be the one in trouble, not you. And honestly? It’s all of your heads they should be after. This case can go to the trash for your stunt.”
“Call you?” Amaro furrowed his brows. “You wanted us to call you so you can tell us that you can’t get a warrant because we have nothing? Oh, no, we’ve heard that before. You think we’re not doing anything here, but we are.” He stood up from his chair and walked to Casey. “You are the one who is listening to whatever the DA’s office tells you and you don’t change a damn thing.”
Casey stared at him as if she could throw daggers with her eyes. “What is that supposed to mean?”
“We know the girls are going to testify.” Olivia simply said as she looked at Casey.
“You cannot put those girls in the stand, Casey.” Amanda shook her head. “We know the power they have, they could be in danger.”
“Don’t you think I know that?” Casey looked at her with a defying stare.
“It’s your case. It’s your choice. You’re the one putting them there! You said we had time to get evidence.” Amaro shrugged. “We’ll say that he attacked us, so we defended ourselves.”
“And you think they’re gonna buy that? You went to their house and beat up not only the father, but one of the boys. They’ll find out and then, they’re coming for our jobs. I am not risking that. I am not gonna risk my job.”
“Oh so, that’s what this is about. You care more about your job than the girls.”
“Drop it, Amaro.” Elliot said as he looked at him.
“No. She cares more about losing her job than putting the girls in danger. Rollins said it. They have money, they have power. Tomorrow the girls testify, and the next day, they’re dead somewhere in the city.”
“I do not want to put them there! Don’t you get it?! I talked to Cutter, I told him I can build a case and he said no. I cannot go above my boss.”
“You did it once! Do it again! It’s like you’re giving them the free pass to get these girls killed!”
“I don’t see you bringing me any evidence.” Casey snapped. “You stand here, ready to yell at me for something I do not have control over. You don’t want me putting them in there? Then get me fucking evidence. I cannot do your goddamn job, I have enough with mine already.” Her voice had changed, this was not Casey, this was ADA Novak. “And no. It is not my choice. I am not my own boss, if I was, trust me, I’d have your ass right now for being here and not looking for evidence. Don’t you think that I know what could happen if they testify? I fucking know, and you know that I know!”
“Do you, though?” Amaro snapped.
Casey was about to walk to him before Elliot stopped her, putting his hands on her shoulders. “Don’t pretend like I’m some cold hearted bitch who doesn’t give a shit about those girls! If I could, I wouldn’t be doing this, but I have no other choice. I want those assholes behind bars as much as you want!” Casey groaned as she looked at Elliot, pushing him so he could let go of her. She then looked back at Amaro. “I remind you we are in this together, I’m not on their side. So, if you want me to avoid this, get me some fucking evidence and don’t come for me again thinking you’re entitled to yell at me for something I don’t have control over. Go do your goddamn job instead of telling me how to do mine!”
Both Alex and Elliot stared at each other for a moment, not sure what had just happened. Amaro finally was left speechless and only nodded and walking away followed by Amanda, Fin, and Munch. The whole time that Casey had been yelling speaking, Alex had stared at the redhead with her mouth almost wide open and completely frozen as she listened. Casey was yelling at Amaro but for a moment she thought Casey was yelling at her. She knew the level of anger that Casey could get into, she had seen her in court many times, she had seen her angry, but she had never seen her lash out like this. She didn’t even know if she was scared, surprised, or even aroused by this. When Elliot stared at her, the only thing she could do was shrug, she then returned her stare at Casey who was shaking at this point, and Alex knew it was nothing but anger radiating through her body.
“Casey?” Elliot asked softly, looking between Olivia and Alex. “Are you okay?”
Casey looked at Elliot with furrowed brows. “Don’t you dare treat me like I’m fucking insane. I meant what I said.”
Elliot nodded. “I know.”
Casey slammed her hands on the desk and groaned. “Does he really think I’m that cold hearted? I know I’m not the ray of sunshine that they want me to be, but why does he think that I don’t care? I fucking care.”
Alex didn’t know what to do, she could see that Casey was still in a trance and it seemed like talking to Elliot was not working at all. Alex took a deep breath as she placed her hands on Casey’s shoulders and turned her so she could face Alex. “Casey. I need you to take a deep breath.”
Casey finally looked at Alex. “What?”
“I need you to calm down, baby. Can you take a deep breath?” Alex placed a hand on Casey’s chest feeling her heart beating fast.
“I don’t need to calm down. You heard what he said to me, and I-“
“My love…” Alex grabbed Casey’s hand and placed it on her chest so she could feel Alex’s heartbeat. “I need you to breath. Your heartbeat keeps racing. Can you do that for me?” Casey nodded as she took a deep breath. “Just like that. That’s it. Take another.” Alex took a deep breath along Casey, her eyes staring into green ones as they breathed out. “One more time, baby.” They took a deep breath and then breathed out together. “Do you need to take another?”
Casey shook her head. “No.” She looked down at her hands and furrowed her brows. “Why do you have my hand on your boobs?”
Alex chuckled. “My chest, actually. But close.” She smiled. She let go of her hand and placed both on Casey’s cheeks. “I lost you there for a second, you were in a trance.”
Casey sighed, letting her hand fall to Alex’s waist. “Amaro pissed me off.”
“He did.” Alex chuckled. “I think we’re gonna send the poor guy to therapy if he has both of us going off on him.”
Casey laughed with Alex, sighing softly. “I’m sorry. I…I guess I’m too stressed.”
“Just a bit.” Elliot grinned.
Casey looked back at Elliot and sighed again. “If you didn’t stop me, I think I would’ve slapped him or punch his in the face.”
Elliot nodded as he chuckled. “Yeah, I could tell. I preferred to stop you before you gave him a purple eye.” He rubbed her back and offered a smile. “Get out of here. We got this, okay? We know you’re doing the best you can.”
Olivia offered a smile as she nodded. “Amaro had no right to say those things to you. We know why you’re doing what you’re doing. And trust me, Casey, if there is no other option, we will definitely keep an eye on the girls until this is all over.”
Casey nodded softly. “Thanks guys.”
Elliot smiled. “We got your back.” He looked at Alex and nodded, walking away with Olivia.
Alex smiled softly as Casey returned her eyes to Alex. “I’ve never seen you like that before. Are you gonna turn into Ice Queen 2?”
“I’m probably heading there.” Casey grinned.
Alex smiled. “Then we’ll both be Ice Queens.” She giggled as she pulled Casey for a kiss. “Are you feeling better?”
Casey nodded. “I think so. I do need a break.”
“What do you say we go out for lunch? If they have something important, I’m sure they’ll call you.”
Casey nodded again and smiled. “I’d like that.”
Alex pecked her lips and then smirked. “Maybe if we have time, we can have some dessert. Just to relax a bit more.”
“Oh?” Casey raised her brow as she grinned. “Could we have dessert first?”
Alex chuckled. “I need you to have energy, so let’s go now so we have some time.” She winked at her as she grabbed her hand.
Maybe Casey and Alex weren’t that different after all, and Alex would definitely not admit that she got all hot watching Casey going off like that, cause she knew the teasing would never end.

“I give them about a month before they’re dating.” “How would you know?” Asked Rollins. “Oh,” said Olivia, “I just do.”
calex. teen. ao3. For @allergictocanon-- I wrote you some fluff!
Sharing SVU was much easier than Alex thought it would’ve been. Casey, it turned out, was very easy to be around, and they’d clicked naturally. After a month or so of going out for drinks after work, they had taken to working at Casey’s on Friday nights, splitting a bottle of wine between them. A reward for the week, a tradition, cheaper and cozier than a bar. Things became so easy between them, passing papers, pens, glasses. Then they started to touch each other, casually, friendly. A squeeze of the hand, an affectionate pat on the thigh. It spilled over into work, it felt like they were in one another’s offices as often as their own. On some level, she had anticipated exactly the opposite to happen when they were both assigned to SVU. She knew Casey’s reputation, and she knew her own. Neither were known for their ability to share. Casey seemed determined not to let conflict happen, though.
April brought cold rain to New York. They rushed inside Casey’s apartment but still found themselves damp. Casey’s hair stuck to her forehead. She turned up the heat as the two of them shivered.
---
“They’re getting close,” Olivia remarked to Rollins upon leaving Alex’s office. Without hardly looking up from their work, Alex had handed them one warrant, Casey another.
“I’m glad they get along,” Rollins said. “It would be a huge hassle if they didn’t.”
“Yes,” said Olivia, “I think it’s a little beyond that.”
“Meaning?” Said Rollins.
“I give them about a month before they’re dating.”
“How would you know?” Asked Rollins.
“Oh,” said Olivia, “I just do.” Amanda caught the hint. That was interesting, she thought.
---
Casey sat down on the couch after changing into dry clothes. She gave Alex her nicest, yet still ratty, sweatpants and long-sleeved tee. She looked amazing casual like this. She even took her hair down. The rain picked up.
“I don’t feel like working,” said Casey. “I don’t have much to do anyway.”
“We don’t have to work,” said Alex. She opened the bottle of wine. Alex knew where her corkscrew was. “Do you want to order Thai food and watch a movie?” Alex stretched her arms above her head and Casey’s eyes were drawn to a sliver of exposed skin at her hip.
“That sounds amazing.” Thunder rumbled outside. Alex paled. “You okay?” Asked Casey.
“Fine,” said Alex unconvincingly. “I don’t like thunderstorms,” she admitted.
---
“Here, let me carry some of those,” Casey said, taking a stack of files from Alex’s arms. Olivia watched them from her desk as they entered the precinct. Alex gave Casey an affectionate look that Olivia would recognize anywhere. She wondered if the two of them had caught on to each other yet. She shot Rollins a smug look. Rollins rolled her eyes back.
“Counselors,” said Rollins. “We’ve got your suspect.”
“So we heard,” said Casey, “What room?”
“Five,” said Olivia.
“Got it,” said Alex. “Amanda, do you want to do the talking? Olivia and I can observe from outside, and Casey can sit in for the lawyer cred.”
“Sounds like a plan,” said Amanda. She gestured to Casey to follow her.
Olivia knew Amanda had this under control. She turned her attention to her colleague, who seemed to be observing someone other than the suspect. Alex bit her lip watching Casey. Olivia remembered that well. It took a lot of self-control not to laugh.
---
They picked Pride and Prejudice, Casey’s suggestion. Alex wasn’t the biggest Austen fan, but she would’ve watched whatever Casey wanted. The storm didn’t let up the whole time. Alex did her best not to show it, but she jumped and trembled with every thunderclap. Casey noticed despite her best efforts and placed her hand over Alex’s white knuckles. That did not slow down her heartbeat.
“Mrs. Darcy, Mrs. Darcy, Mrs. Darcy,” said Matthew McFadyen. As the credits rolled, Alex realized she was pressed into Casey’s side completely. It would be so easy to simply turn her head, her lips would be inches from Casey’s. She coughed and made some space between them, slowly withdrawing her hand. Casey stretched her arms forward. It was almost nine o’clock, and still storming. Alex dreaded going out in this, even if she could call a cab right to the apartment.
“Another one?” Asked Casey sleepily.
“Yeah,” said Alex. “You pick.”
“Are you sure about that?” Said Casey.
“Mhm,” said Alex. “Whatever you want. You’re the one with the DVDs.”
“Good point,” said Casey. “Emma it is.” She grinned. “More popcorn?”
“Please.”
---
At drinks, Olivia was surprised the two of them weren’t making out at the table. Casey leaned into Alex’s space and Alex returned the favor. Olivia wouldn’t be surprised if they were holding hands under the table. She wondered if they had consummated the obvious sexual tension yet. If they hadn’t it would be a matter of days. This was so entertaining. Casey went to grab another pitcher and Alex watched her the whole way to the bar. They shared a carton of peanuts, ignoring the brushes of their fingertips. Casey whispered something in Alex’s ear, and they laughed, Alex tilting her head back. It couldn’t hurt to fuck with them a bit.
“Okay,” said Olivia, “Casey, truth or dare?”
“Oh, come on,” said Casey, “how old are we?”
“That’s something only boring people ask,” said Rollins, catching on to Olivia’s tactics.
“Truth or dare, Casey?”
“Fine,” she said, annoyed at having her attention drawn away from Alex, “Truth.”
“When was the last time you got laid?” Olivia asked. Casey blushed.
“Uh,” she said, “Three months ago.” Alex’s eyes widened, in surprise or jealousy, Olivia couldn’t tell.
“Damn girl, save some for the rest of us,” teased Rollins.
“Whatever, I’m busy. Olivia, truth or dare?”
“Dare,” she said.
“Kiss Rollins,” said Alex. Rollins reddened, but Olivia retained her composure.
“I’m her superior,” said Olivia.
“Who cares? It’s just a kiss.” Amanda apparently agreed. She shrugged and kissed Olivia herself. Damn, thought Olivia. That was fun.
---
When Emma ended, it was eleven. The streets were flooded, but the storm had stopped. Casey was relieved at Alex’s relaxation. But, like hell Casey was letting Alex go home in this.
“I should be going,” said Alex. Casey looked at her like she had three heads.
“What are you talking about? In this weather?”
“I don’t want to intrude,” said Alex.
“It’s not intruding if I’m inviting you,” countered Casey. She held Alex’s hand in her own. Alex looked at their interlaced hands.
“Okay,” she said.
“But,” said Casey, “Do you want to listen to some music?”
---
This was the fifth time Alex had brought up Casey tonight. At dinner. At the dinner where the two of them were supposed to be catching up. Olivia now knew that:
a) Casey was great at her job b) Casey was close with her mom c) Casey loved thriller novels d) Casey was a Godsend in the office e) Casey looked great in her softball uniform.
And Alex had the audacity to pester her about Amanda after that. She was almost ready to trap the two of them in a closet and wait for them to figure their shit out.
---
Casey put on the new Chairlift album. Alex liked it. It was time, Alex thought around track seven. If she didn’t do this now, she wondered if it would ever happen. Casey was saying something, and Alex was taking none of it in.
“Alex?” Said Casey. Apparently, it had been silent for a while.
“Casey,” said Alex, “I.” That was not a sentence with an ending. Casey looked at her wide-eyed, and Alex kissed her. She did what she had wanted to for months. It was everything she wanted and more, Casey’s muffled surprised sound before she kissed her back desperately. Their hands roamed. Casey pulled away.
“Finally,” she said, “finally.”
---
Olivia entered Casey’s office to find the two of them on the couch, equally focused. They were holding hands. Olivia doubted they even knew they were. Finally, Olivia thought.

Calex Kids OneShot 1/6
OC Character ~ Atlas Cabot Novak
The Lawyer
Tumblr media
Being held captive in a court room, during a rape and murder trial hadn’t exactly been on Atlas’ agenda for a bitter Thursday morning.
Neither had being shot, and yet, here she lay, her abdomen excreting copious amounts of blood as she attempted to slow the bleeding with her blazer.
William Walker, was a violent man, at least Atlas had deemed him so from the moment the squad had collared him, her was easily aggravated and near effortlessly provoked.
However no one including his own defence attorney had expected him to grab the gun of a court officer and hold a court of three dozen people hostage.
He’d already shot the trial Judge, and Atlas had crawled over to Liz Donnelly, her belt slipping from her waist as she attempted to create a tourniquet and stop the immense bleeding that poured from her shoulder.
“Atlas your bleeding.” The ADA grunted her hands still pressed against Liz’s shoulder,
“So are you Liz.” The judge attempted to bat away Atlas’ hands, but Atlas was a lot stronger than she’d anticipated, even after being shot.
“Yes in the shoulder, but the bastard shot you in the abdomen, take care of yourself I’m fine.” Atlas’ jaw clenched harshly, as she negated the flying arms of Judge Donnelly,
“And I’m sure the bench wouldn’t appreciate everybody’s favourite Judge dying from blood loss.” Liz scoffed,
“And your mothers will go mad if they find out you’ve been taking care of everyone but yourself.”
Outside on the steps of the courthouse just about everyone had been on the receiving end of two very aggravated lawyers and their aggression.
“Why the hell are we just stood out here, why aren’t you doing something!” Liv turned to Alex although she remained at an arms length away,
“Alex you and I both know they’re waiting for a hostage negotiator.”
The phone rang through the courtroom people flinching as it pierced through the silence. William glanced up panicked, glaring at the phone, until Atlas spoke up,
“This your first time taking people hostage Willy? That’s a hostage negotiator they want to know what your demands are so that everyone can leave here alive.” He nodded picking up the phone, while Atlas eyes the weapon of the second court officer that sat on the defence table away from the rest of the hostages of whom had all crowded on the opposite side of the courtroom, on the benches.
He was making his demands, when Atlas decided it was now or never, she was impatient perhaps it was a trait she’d inherited from her mothers but she lunged for the weapon while his back was turned, and four shots fired.
Across the phone she could distantly hear the commotion and if she heard it right she heard her Mama (Casey) shouting orders.
In a pool of her own blood, she crawled over to the phone, “Suspect down 3 GSW’s to the chest send a bus.”
She succumbed to unconsciousness after that, the beeping of the hospital monitors rousing her, a throbbing in her head coaxing a groan from dry lips.
“Turn that fucking thing off.” Casey chuckled standing at her daughters bedside, Alex combing a hand through Atlas hair,
“Welcome back monkey you scared us for a second there.” Atlas chuckled although winced at the weight in her chest and sharp pain that travelled through her abdomen,
“And I’d bet that you scared everyone else while we were in there.” Alex scoffed although Casey threw her a stare that said ‘really’
“We did no such thing.”
“Alex you made a patrolman cry.”

Note
X: A character you enjoy making suffer. 👀
Hmmm….. all of them?😂😂😂
Keane is a great hurt/comfort one, poor girl’s been through so much the comfort is just needed.
I like Calex/Calvak for some more angst/discovering past trauma & how they deal with it. Both Alex’s insomnia/anxiety before getting shot & her coping with it post wpp. And casey’s past DV relationship & how it affects her future ones.

Author Asks
Rules: answer these questions and tag five other fic writers to do the same.
I was tagged by the wonderful @novemberhush (Thanks, I love this)
Author Name: mforpaul
Fandoms You Write For: Barisi and recently one Calex fic, but I’m willing and open to write other SVU pairings. I kinda wanna write Bellarke, too, and I did write Sam x Jack in my teens
Where You Post: tumblr and ao3
Most Popular One-Shot: Should be Unplanned which is close to 250 kudos
Most Popular Multi-Chapter Story: Besides Unplanned that’s definetely Smitten and Uniformed Awakening in the smut section
Favourite Story You Wrote:
- A Gift which is a Sonny is a single dad AU that I wrote for a gift exchange. I had never written Sonny’s POV or an AU before and I was nervous about the prompt, but I started writing and just let go of the prompt by chapter 2 and it turned out amazing.
- Air to Breathe because I love that weird thought in my head (but I’m planning to turn this into a slow burn)
- To Be Desired because that was simply fun to write
Story You Were Nervous to Post:
- To Be Desired because it’s a threesome and something I never tried before
- Making Out because it’s so artsy
- def. Know Better because it’s a story I started like 6 months before I finished it, a lot of my headcanons had change and it was the first time I wrote Sonny’s POV
How Do You Pick Your Titles: They just come to me and I never think twice.
Do You Outline: In my head definetely, otherwise I cant do anything. Sometimes I write ideas down and that helps a lot actually. I should do that more.
How Many Of Your Stories Are Complete: 15
In-Progress: I dont want to answer this question (but might be 6)
Coming Soon: I’m gonna finish Drama and Dirt and And everything falls into place this week, I was about to post Ch14 of Smitten but I have some rethinking to do
Do You Accept Prompts: Always. I’m slow and make no promises, but I have yet written every prompt so far
Upcoming Story You’re the Most Excited For: Of my own? I’m trying to finish up a few projects and then I have my Sonny AUs left which are Air to Breathe (Lumberjack), A New Gift (Single dad) and Smitten (actor) which are my favorite stories.
I tag @blu-eyed-demon @adrianna-m-scovill @wellhellolazlo @sincerely-leahh @power-bottom-barba😘 (no pressure)

Traitors of Olympus IV: Fall of the Sun
Forty-Eight: Calex
A Punch of Home
After Calex shot Python with a split arrow of desire and abhorrence, he figured he would die the most respectable way for a hero: falling flat on his face off a two story shield, screaming swears that would make his hooligan cousin blush.
All he could remember from the fall was thinking about how dumb it had been to stand on the edge without any sort of net or rope. Then the world had gone white.
When he first heard voices, especially considering what they were talking about, he thought he was dreaming.
“Wait, are you dating Anubis or Walt? Are you dating two guys?”
After months in the states, he had finally become accustomed to waking in an unfamiliar surrounding with foreign accents. That’s why he was so surprised when he heard a crisp British accent responding, “No. And yes? Anubis is inside Walt’s head.”
“And babe, I thought I had problems.”
Calex’s body felt heavy, like he’d run a marathon while giving Frank Zhang a piggyback ride. The room smelled sterile, like he was back in his mother’s clinic. Someone had a hand clutching his tightly.
That’s when it hit him: this was the first time in months he’d woken so calmly. No nightmares. No panic.
The British voice continued, “Oh, us special pharaoh children have all lost our minds, what with the voices of gods in our heads.  Some people say it’s because of the incest in our lineage.”
Calex really wanted out of this chat. He tried to roll onto his back and only managed a grunt.
“I think the teddy bear is up,” someone hummed beside him. The grip on his hand loosened. He could hear water splashing into a container. The familiar scent of black tea gave him the strength to blurrily open his eyes.
Merry smiled down at him. When she leaned forward to inspect him, the scent of her shampoo mixed with the bitterness of the tea: something sweet and raspberry. The sunlight trickling through a window made the auburn in her hair more prominent and her honey skin glow. She wore a clean Camp Half-Blood T-shirt.
Her face had deep bruises. Two pieces of medical tape were stretched across her cheek.
She waved a cup of tea under his nose, like a wake-up elixir. Her smile was playful, but didn’t stretch as far as it normally did.
“Merry,” his words came out as a croak. He tried to smile back, and found half his face hurt to move. “How did I deserve to end up in Elysium?”
“Wow there, Teddy Bear. No Elysium for you yet.” She set the tea cup down to squeeze his hand again. His gut wretched to recognize the extent of her bruises. “Just setting a world record on making an anti-worrier worry. You’ve been asleep for roughly twenty hours.”
Twenty hours? Calex’s eyes widened. He glanced around the room. He was on the floor, in a sleeping bag. Merry knelt beside him. On Merry’s other side, someone else was tucked into a sleeping bag with strawberry blonde hair spilling across the pillow.
Calex breathed in relief to recognize Kally.
The IV stand beside her made his stomach twist further.
On Kally’s other side, someone was burrowed in a ball in their sleeping bag—presumably Pax. Last in the corner was a sickeningly pale figure with wires sticking out of its mouth, like a Frankenstein contraption. Another IV stand loomed there, making Calex think about Kakata.
There was a chair at the foot of that sleeping bag. A disgruntled middle-aged man sat in it, reading a book with a pistol in his lap. Dr. Howard Claymore didn’t look up once as he turned the page.
Before Calex could roll to look at the other side of the room, someone appeared beside Merry and smacked him across the face.
Calex made a muffled sound. Getting assaulted first thing when you wake up was unpleasant. Maybe worse, Calex felt the skin on his forehead crack. A scab he didn’t know he had busted.
“You, Calex Rupin McKenzie, are the thickest bloke I’ve EVER met!” a tiny blonde with pink streaks in her hair exploded at him.
Calex wanted to give her a proper greeting of, “How do you do? Please piss off,” but he was stumped with the strange sense that he knew this girl.
Merry wasn’t reacting like the girl was a threat. She looked more amused as she moved out of the girl’s way.
The name popped into his head. “Sadie,” Calex said, stunned, “Sadie Kane.”
She was obviously several kilometers ahead of him on the think train. “Yes! Sadie Kane. Do you have ANY idea how much you’ve freaked out Gretchen and your dad? They both think you’re dead! Since we were kids, I always assumed there wasn’t much a brain behind that stupidly handsome face, but, seriously! How could you be so thick? Not a word? Not one bloody phone call?!”
Calex’s mind was scrambling. Sadie Kane. He vaguely remembered it. Before they moved to St. Albans out of London, his little sister, Gretchen, was in the second stage of her primary education. She had three annoying little schoolmates, Sadie, Emma, and… Liz? Was Liz the one that almost fainted every time he walked in the room? Or was that Emma?
But that had been years ago. Gretchen only saw Sadie every few months, and that had become sparse to almost nonexistent since—
“Emma and Liz gave me a ring and told me to check on Gretchen. And here we have the Jerk of the Year all fine and well—”
“Uh, Lady Sadie, dude still looks like he was stampeded by a pack of Party Ponies,” someone said. A hand appeared on Sadie’s shoulder to pull her back a little.
Calex could see Leo’s crazy hair sticking out. He didn’t look amused when he made eye contact with Calex. The glance turned into a frown when his eyes trailed to where Calex assumed Pax was curled into a ball.
Calex’s wanted to vomit. Gretchen? His Dad?
Another sight made Calex’s stomach pitch even further down, potentially proving it had stayed with Kaos when the rest of him left.
There was another occupant in the room behind Sadie and Leo. The person sat in a chair by the door and a small table. Despite being chained to the chair and gagged, the sight still gave Calex shivers. The boy was probably 15 with a blue-tipped Mohawk. His burgundy dress shirt and leather vest were covered in dirt and dust. Blood soaked his right pant leg and one of his eyes was swollen shut.
Lapis Pax flicked Calex off in greeting as best he could with his restraints.
Before Calex could panic, Sadie huffed, “He’s about as dangerous as a piece of lint right now. I’m the one you need to worry about.”
That could only mean one thing: Sadie, Leo, and Jason must have successfully rescued Hemera from Lapis. Eris’ plans must have crumbled.
But, if they put Calex and his friends in the same room as Lapis, that also meant…
Calex glanced at the other side of the room. Axel was passed out in a sleeping bag beside Calex. On his other side, there appeared to be a mini garden lot. After a moment of scrutiny, he could discern Euna’s form, curled up on a mound of moss and flowers. Kronos’s scythe was tied tightly to her hand with vines.
In that far corner, there was a shuddering, towel-covered bird cage.
Other than Euna, everyone was unarmed.
Calex swallowed to finish the thought, If they put us in the same room as this crazed bloke, they still don’t know if we’re allies or enemies. Leo and Sadie are probably here to keep us in cue. They should have been over this ally vs. traitor thing, right? Though, Calex had just helped Euna steal a piece of Kaos, and, judging by his lack of nightmares, he guessed—and really hoped—she’d used it to fight Phobetor. Was God murder illegal?
“Gretchen and Mr. McKenzie had to move in with your granddad and nan since they couldn’t afford the flat in St. Albans. At least they had some closure with Mrs. McKenzie and Tom.” Tears rimmed Sadie’s eyes and Calex felt the emotions that he’d repressed for months threaten to crumble him. “But your body was never accounted for. All they heard was your other, daft granddad ranting that you’d be taken by an angel.”
           Your body…
Calex could hardly breathe. With Tiwa and Tom slowly succumbing to death and the nonstop madness that ensued, Calex hadn’t though as much about what had happened to his living family. Just that he was ashamed of facing them after he abandoned—
Calex swallowed and corrected himself. Not after he abandoned his Mom and brother. After he tried to save his family from an inevitable fate. His biological father, Eros, and Axel had reminded him he wasn’t a coward for failing and running from something as unstoppable as Death.
Still, how could he forget what that would do to Gretchen and Winston? He really was that thick? Shame clogged his throat.
Calex focused on the one good thing in that rant. “Grandad’s alive?” his voice shook.
The idea of that crazy old man poking him out of bed with a walking cane and an anecdote about how laziness doesn’t bring prosper…
Tears streamed down Calex’s cheeks. He didn’t realize how bad they were until he felt Merry’s hand clasp back over his. He tried to keep them quiet, but a hiccup choked his throat.
“Maybe you’d know that if you’d have given them a call!” Sadie snapped, though, her anger seemed to break at his demeanor.
Calex wished her anger wouldn’t go away. He deserved her rage and so much worse. “Oh gods, I missed their funerals,” he choked. The hole in his stomach felt like it was expanding to encompass his whole body. If it kept going, there would be nothing left of him.
“Hey,” Merry said. She raised a hand towards Sadie that Calex knew to be threatening Shut up, or I’ll have you doing the hokey-pokey. Gently, she pulled Calex up and dragged him against her. Calex burrowed his face into her skin and let the sobs go. He’d been holding so many for so long, mad at himself and at Death itself. Now, he could just be sad Tom and Tiwa weren’t here and never would be here. With Sadie around, everything felt more real. Someone who knew his parents and siblings personally. Someone else cared—really cared—that two wonderful people had left this world to go to Elysium.
“Teddy Bear,” Merry hummed into his hair. “We had a lot going on here. Remember? Getting kidnapped by Santiago. All our quests. Being on the run. From what I heard Thalia say, you’ve even been busying yourself with two different Underworlds.”
“That doesn’t matter,” he mumbled, thinking of Gretchen sobbing as she and Winston went through his, Tom’s, and Tiwa’s stuff as they left the flat Winston and Tiwa had been so proud to live in with their combined salaries. Their home. How Gretchen and Winston’s life would have been collapsing around them, losing their family, their home, probably Gretchen’s school.
“I know it doesn’t make it any easier,” Merry whispered, her own voice breaking. “But, we can’t change what we’ve done in the past. We can’t pretend it didn’t happen. We should let ourselves cry. But, we can’t get consumed thinking about what we could have done differently. We need to focus on what we can do in the future. And, you, your sister, and your dad will still have a future together.” Her tone took on a distant quality and Calex could feel her shake.
Calex was horrified to realize he hadn’t asked about her quest to save Percy’s little sister from Hiro. Had he really been that dense all over again? He didn’t know if Merry succeeded in rescuing the baby or if Hiro had given her those bruises. He’d even forgotten, in all his stupidity, that Merry didn’t like to be touched by men.
Calex choked back some of his sobs and tried to withdraw.
“Uh-uh,” Merry said, clutching him tighter, “You’re staying right here. I need a Teddy Bear, too.”
Sadie cleared her throat. Her voice was quieter and gentler. “They had memorial services. Last I heard, your granddad was quarantined in Kakata, but, I’ll admit, that was a bit ago.”
Calex managed to twist away from Merry a little, to see Sadie’s expression. Her face had puffed up from tears. Leo turned away from them, awkwardly toying with some wires in his lap. Mr. Claymore hadn’t looked up from his book, but Calex also noted that he hadn’t turned a page during the whole conversation.
Calex had expected Lapis to be rolling his dark eyes. Instead, he saw Lapis’ eyes were also red rimmed. His hands had tightened into fists. If Lapis could have cast magic with his gaze, his glare would have melted Merry from existence.
“I need to head back to Brooklyn House, but you’re making me a promise before I leave. Once you get all this nonsense sorted, really, by the end of the day, you’re going to contact Gretchen and Mr. McKenzie,” Sadie informed him.
Calex tried to speak. At first, his throat felt too thick. After a few swallows, he managed, “I’ll do you one better. By the end of the week, I’ll also make sure I can see them in person.”
           Merry flinched.
Calex pulled one hand out of his sleeping bag to squeeze her shoulder. “I’m not gone for good, but I need to do this.” What exactly, he wasn’t sure. There was no way to make up for disappearing without explanation. Despite Merry reminding him about all their trials, he could have called. Hell, he could have written them a bloody letter in that timeframe.
“Thank you,” was all he could find for Sadie.
His heart was still a torrent of emotions, but—if he was really leaving Camp Half-Blood soon—he needed to keep it together a little longer. Calex sat up, taking most of his weight off Merry. He hadn’t realized until then how much she’d been struggling to keep them both up. Any longer, and they likely would have collapsed back onto Kally’s sleeping bag and this wasn’t that kind of slumber party.
Sadie huffed, rubbing the back of her hand under her eyes. “Look at you, Mr. Calex McKenzie, thinking you’re so important. You’re not the only one in here that I need to chat with.”
What she did next made Calex blink, wondering if he was dreaming or if Sadie was a total lunatic.
Sadie stood up, withdrew a can of Fancy Feast from her pocket, cracked it open, and set it beside Axel’s sleeping bag. She took a step back, folded her arms, and tapped her foot impatiently.
Leo spun back around, grinning. He stood beside Sadie, and Calex couldn’t help but think there was a bit of malice in his grin.
Their leader was flopped on his face, sleeping much more peacefully then Calex had ever seen. Axel’s tufted ears were visible at the edge of his sleeping bag. They twitched.
Calex was about to say that the Fancy Feast can seemed a bit rude when Axel rose in a very feminine, un-Axel like stretch. He made a low purring noise that Calex had never heard him make.
“Mmm, Sadie, you do know how to provide a balanced breakfast,”[1] Axel said. When he sat up, Axel winced and touched his chest. When the sleeping bag slipped down, Calex could see bandages stretched across the skin and a blood-soaked blotch towards the center. Axel looked quite pleased. “That was quite a close call. I’ve never had someone literally rip my host out of me before.”
Axel reached out to pick up the can of Fancy Feast.
Sadie and Leo exchanged a glance.
           Merry made a face.
           “Mate,” Calex said, No.”
Even Lapis coughed a laugh into his gag when Axel started chomping down. Giggles erupted from the balled form of a supposedly sleeping Pax.
“You two… know each other?” Calex asked, glancing to Sadie and the bizarrely acting Axel.
Sadie sighed. “I do tend to know everyone important. But no. I know the goddess that’s highjacked your mate’s body. One that was supposed to leave once we got the battle sorted.”
Axel licked his lips, then the back of his hand, using it to wipe off the rest of his face and behind his ears.
By now, the laughter from Pax’s balled form was unrelenting.
“Dude, this is great!” Leo cheered. “We should have brought a camera. You think the Romans will be scared of the Leonis Caput if they see this?”
“You should know, napping and hygiene are sacred for cats,” Axel said, “It’s not a joking matter.”
“Bast, drop him,” Sadie chided like Axel was a mouse the goddess had proudly kidnapped. “He doesn’t belong to you. He’s not even Egyptian.”
“I’ve told you before. I’m a cat; everything belongs to me,” Axel said with a coy grin.
Some of Calex’s anguish cracked. He couldn’t help but choke back a laugh. This was the weirdest thing he’d ever seen, and he was a demigod. That was definitely not his mate and he could only image how Axel would feel when he found out what was said or that he’d demolished a can of cat food.
“Besides,” Axel—Bast continued, “He is still a cat, at least in some manner, so he does belong to me, as he is part of my domain. And…” Axel raised one hand to stroke his goatee, then rolled his fingers across the part of his chest that wasn’t covered in bandages. “I’m very fond of this host body.”
Axel held out his hands and admired his missing claws with the same fondness a Jersey shore girl might admire her nails.
Someone cleared their throat from the doorway.
Calex felt his jaw drop. Even Merry jumped.
Will Solace stood there in a long doctor’s lab coat with a stethoscope around his neck. He looked exhausted. Dark circles encased his eyes and he was pale. In a towel bundle in his arms, mewing kittens squirmed.
“Hi,” he said with a tired smile.
Thanks for reading! I hope you guys enjoyed! Stay tuned next week for another Calex chapter, Not Enough Lollipops.
[1] Yes, it’s cute that Riordan has Bast eat Fancy Feast. But this is not a balanced diet for your kitty.

i won't end up anywhere good (without you) chapter two
“Casey’s got a crush?” said Olivia from the driver’s seat.
calex. mature. ao3. playlist.
And the rocks and stones and the vetiver Rat's nest put holes in the rabbit fur Sun's coming up and the moment it feels like a purr And the rocks and stones and the vetiver
Unknown number: Hey, this is Alex. Rita gave me your number. How’s everything?
Casey was very glad to receive the text. It had been about a week, another stop, they were on their way from Rochester up to Toronto. She had, unusually, found herself sad not to get Alex’s number. Alex wasn’t blending into the background like all the rest of them were, like the ones since her were. She would think about Alex’s skilled work at the café, and about the seductive tones in her voice. She must’ve smiled down at her phone, because Amanda felt the need to comment. “Who’s that?”
“Just Alex,” Casey replied.
“Who’s Alex?”
“Blonde girl from Mass,” Casey clarified.
“Oh that girl, nice,” said Amanda.
“Casey’s got a crush?” said Olivia from the driver’s seat.
“Oooooooh,” said Rafael.
“I have a girl sending me texts,” said Casey, “nothing more.”
“Sure,” said Amanda. Casey could tell that was the end of the teasing. She sent back:
Casey: Hey Alex, nice to hear from you. How’s it going? How’s the café? Any good shows lately?
Alex: It’s how it always is, it’s fine. And yeah, some good, some terrible. How it always is.
Casey: Sounds about right.
Alex: What about you? How’s the road?
They were at the Canadian border. Casey snapped a picture and sent it to her.
Alex: How exciting!
Casey: On to Toronto!
The messages were left there for a while. It was nice to hear from Alex. Casey took a nap and then they played twenty questions. Before they knew it, the drive was over. They unloaded at the next house and introduced themselves. They played the show, and it was like every other show. They all started to blend together at a certain point, and they started to annoy each other. The tension between Amanda and Olivia was growing ever thicker, and while Casey didn’t mind, it was clearly pissing off Raf. They had to fill up the weekdays somehow as well, and the boredom got to them. After Toronto it was on to Kitchener, Hamilton, and London. There was an especially cute cat in Hamilton.
Alex: So where next?
Casey: Detroit! Back to the US of A.
Alex: Welcome home.
---
In Detroit, they had some really good burgers on their way in. Their hosts were cool, a little older than usual. Their place was actually quite clean. By the time the show rolled around, everyone was well-rested and ready to perform. A song into the set, Casey saw her.
Alex gave her a smile when she caught her eye from the crowd. It threw Casey off her rhythm for a moment, she recovered, but her fingers felt numb as she felt her heart beat through them. Raf shot her a confused look before she got completely back on track. Had she traveled all this way to see her? Casey almost believed it was another woman, but she would recognize that face anywhere, she realized. The green in her hair had faded slightly, a more pastel tone shone through. She wore a tight black crop top and jeans. She had on the same dark lip color Casey had seen before, it must be her trademark. Casey couldn’t wait to finish out the set, though she enjoyed it as she always did. There was something so magical about playing music with her friends. She always tried to take a moment to enjoy it after the show. After they played their last song, she gave everyone the classic sweaty hugs they always did. Then, she found Alex waiting for her close to them, not dispersing like the rest of the crowd.
“Alex, hey,” said Casey breathily, worn out from playing.
“Hey yourself,” said Alex. “You were amazing.”
“Thanks, thanks. Wasn’t my best set, I was a little, distracted.” Alex’s eyes were entrancingly blue. Casey’s attention was drawn to the pale skin of her midriff. She noticed a tattoo of a violet on her forearm.
“Sorry about that.”
“Oh no, it’s very, very welcome.” They just looked at each other for a pause.
“What are you doing here?” Casey asked finally.
“Seeing you,” said Alex. “I had the weekend off, my college friend lives out here. I figured I’d make a trip of it.”
“You didn’t drive all the way from Massachusetts to see me, right?”
“No, no, I flew.” Casey’s eyes widened, but before she had a chance to chastise Alex for spending that kind of money, she continued, “Like I said, I’ve got friends here.”
“Is that where you’re staying?”
“Yep, they even have a spare bedroom.”
“Nicer than the couch I’m crashing on.”
“Well,” said Alex, “I might have an alternative for you, then.” Casey stepped into her space and kissed her. Raf whistled at them. Casey flipped him off. Olivia had her hand on the small of Amanda’s back and Amanda had her head on Olivia’s shoulder.
After the band packed up for the night, Casey and Alex skipped out on the post show celebrations in favor of heading over to where Alex was staying. Her friends were long asleep. Alex opened a bottle of wine she’d bought, either to share with Casey or to drink alone in the event of a rejection. Casey laughed at that suggestion.
“So you went to college then,” said Casey.
“Yep,” said Alex, “I have an English degree.”
“Miss fancy over here,” said Casey.
“Miss fancy? Lot of good it’s doing me now.” Alex laughed. Casey returned it.
“I failed a semester of community college and then we started touring,” said Casey, “we’ve been together since we were teenagers.”
“Wow,” said Alex, “that takes some commitment.”
“I guess so,” said Casey, “they’re like my family now.” Alex didn’t press the implications of that statement. “Thanks for coming to the show, Alex. It really is nice to see you.”
“It’s nice to see you too,” said Alex, and set her wine down. She rolled into Casey’s lap and kissed her.
---
Casey woke up well-rested, beside Alex this time. Alex was already awake, scrolling Instagram idly. Casey sat up and stretched.
“Good morning,” said Alex. “Sleep well?”
“Very,” said Casey, “I haven’t spent the night in a real bed since the last time I saw you.”
“I could never,” said Alex. “Do you want breakfast?” Casey checked her phone. No texts, which meant she could. They found a little diner down the street. Casey ordered eggs and hashbrowns, Alex got waffles with whipped cream. Casey found it cute when she got some on her nose.
“I’m so glad you came,” said Casey.
“Of course,” said Alex. “I really like you, Casey.” Casey felt herself blush. She turned her head to the side and took a bite of her hashbrowns.
“I like you, too,” said Casey. She felt her phone buzz.
Olivia: Come back, on road in one hour.
Casey sighed. It wasn’t that she wasn’t excited for Ann Arbor, it was that she didn’t want this moment to end. How unusual, she thought. It was good to be surprised.

silence [calex]
series : law and order: special victims unit pairing:  Alex Cabot/Casey Novak summary: words left unsaid, forever suspended into silence ; loss and post-loss
i
It’s the last thing she wanted. The mere illusion of a noise in her head. Flatlining. The gun shot. White noise resonating in her mind. Her eyes open in shock. The blood is seeping through her clothes.
Alex knows Olivia’s saying something. Yet she cannot hear.
Silence keeps meeting her thoughts halfway. And she berates it.
ii
She had been stuck in tons of cases. Casey could not careless for any as she went through them with efficiency. The balance in the system she had so desperately clung to are about to be crushed. As soon as the word Branch, McCoy and office came into the mix.
She waits at the door. Fidgeting. Waiting for a signal. It’s idle for a moment. Silent for a few moments she could hear the nearby water jug’s machine humming. Then there’s a knock and come in.
They talk but Casey does not listen. Had stopped listening as soon as her worst nightmares had set into reality. It’s mainly what made her throw half her files at the door of her office today. Why she’d shouted. Why she’s out of voice.
ADA Alexandra Cabot, to our utmost regrets, died while pursuing a top-profile case.
Her mind ceases hearing and only curls itself, false sense of hope crumbling into pieces and failing to cloud the façade she’d perfectly set up. They sent her out of the office. Nearly after three minutes, maybe they noticed. Maybe they noticed the tears pooling in her eyes.
She ran, crying. In silence.
iii
Murmurs. It’s all she hears. The smell of medicine and mass dry-cleaned sheets. Unmindful beeping. The voices get louder. Or was it closer? She supposes she wouldn’t know until she opens her eyes. Even that is pain. Even the simple gesture of opening her eyes sends strain to her whole body.
It takes her a few moments to open her eyes. She could not see still. What with her eyesight and apparent case of myopia. It’s all just blurs of blue and blacks. Her morphine drip is probably set to the highest possible setting, she could barely feel pain on any part of her body unless she tries to move.
When it clears, the two unknown figure just look at her. If she looks closely, the bald guy in the suit looks familiar. Seemed familiar. God, it strains her mind too much. There’s a futile attempt to sit up but it only urges pain suddenly shooting from her shoulder and a held back groan, biting he inside of her lips. It’ll bleed.
They stare at her. As if examining her. She wants answers.
“What hospital is this?”
Alex manages. She’s been in multiple hospitals but never one that looked like this. Hospitals felt like a prequel to solitary confinement. The room she’s in, might as well be the real deal.
“Need-to-know, Miss Cabot. There’s only two things you have to know: you’re officially dead and we’re putting you in Witness Protection.”
True, she got her answers. Alex Cabot got her answers and she died. Her soul suspended into silence and the desolation settling in her blue eyes. Suddenly, the pain on her shoulder did not compare much to the inevitable pain the new circumstance presents her.
iv
The words hover above her, in paper but suspended in the air as if it was mocking her. The whole office had been silent. Mourning. Some had been the absolute worst. Thinking it was a good thing. Casey had held back every bit of her anger just so she does not end up smashing some ADA’s head through a window.
She was mourning too. She was mad. At Alex. For taking this case in the first place. Their argument did not end with reconciliation. Also not with the possibility of it as they’d pushed each other so far to the edge—Alex, whom usually would be the one running her mouth of—only met her eyes, silent, not knowing it was the last time. She had to do it. And Casey knew then, she knew and she felt—she understood the sacrifices of the job they have.
She just did not understood well enough how far does the sacrificing go and to what point where it’s not Alex she meets halfway in the end but silence.
Her tears falling, helplessly, as she stands in front of Alex’s grave.

Note
Our alex and Casey for that ship thing
send me a ship && i’ll tell you:
note for my other followers who may see this :  this is not casey & alex from svu, but rather some hella cute ocs that catie & i created well before i fell for calex.
who said “i love you” first:  casey.  alex spent forever trying to figure out the best time to say it & trying to plan the whole thing out.  it was this whole elaborate date at the nicest places she could think of so casey would feel like a princes … && then casey beat her to it in the most casual way possible.
who would have the other’s picture as their phone background:  both.  before maggie & chase come along, it’s just selfies of the two of them or alex has a particular favorite glam shot of casey, but after, it’s all silly family photos.
who leaves notes written in fog on the bathroom mirror:   alex.  casey appreciates the whimsy but also doesn’t like messing up the mirrors.
who buys the other cheesy gifts:  both, but usually alex.  she loves to spoil casey & casey loves to be spoiled.
who initiated the first kiss:  alex… after awkwardly asking if casey was sure about six times.
who kisses the other awake in the morning:  casey.  alex might wake up to watch the sunrise every once in awhile, but it’s highly unlikely.  usually she stays up way past midnight & sleeps extremely late.
who starts tickle fights:  alex would, except she knows better.
who asks who if they can join the other in the shower:  no one asks.  it just happens.
who surprises the other in the middle of the day at work with lunch:  it’s hardly much of a surprise since they work in literally the same room.  but sometimes alex will order in some of casey’s favorites or insist on a spontaneous date.
who was nervous and shy on the first date:  both !!
who kills / takes out the spiders:  alex, usually.  it’s not that casey needs protecting, but alex likes to take care of her.
who loudly proclaims their love when they’re drunk:  alex.

What Else?
Tumblr media
Casey Novak x Alex Cabot Warnings: some hurt/comfort, language. Covers the "meet the parents" square for @sweetprentiss bingo!
Alex finished her makeup, popping the bottle of setting spray back into the cupboard, giving herself a quick once over before exiting the ensuite back into the master bedroom. She let out a little sigh at the sight of Casey in what she was pretty sure was her sixth outfit change in the last half hour. She was glad she’d told Casey their reservation was an hour before it actually was, she’d expected the redhead to let her workout run over, but instead, it appeared she couldn’t decide what to wear.
“That looks nice.” She commented with a warm smile and Casey let out an annoyed groan, ripping the blouse off and tossing it to the ever-growing pile of discarded clothes.
“It’s not good enough.” She grumbled, moving back into the walk in to flick through Alex’s side of the closet this time.
“It’s just lunch.” Alex suggested, leaning against the door frame of the closet.
“Yeah. At the country club…with your parents.”
“I already told you that the club isn’t as snooty as you think it’s gonna be. It’s not one of the most prestigious or expensive ones in the city by far.”
“Okay and am I just supposed to ignore the fact that I’m meeting The Cabot’s for the first time, as their daughter’s girlfriend? Lex, your name means something in this city, in the legal world.”
“And yours doesn’t?” Alex raised a brow and Casey resisted the urge to hurl a stiletto at her. “You just took down one of the biggest sex rings in the city, it was all over the papers, which is why my mother asked if ‘that Casey was my Casey’ and why when I said yes, that she asked when she would get to meet you.”
“Yeah well…she better lower her expectations.” The redhead mumbled as she tugged on another blouse, turning to the mirror as she smoothed it over her body, experimenting with whether it looked better tucked in or loose.
“Casey…” Alex’s voice hardened ever so lightly, not liking the tone in which her girlfriend was talking about herself in. In return, Casey let out a huff, pulling the shirt off before quickly changing her bra and tugging the shirt back on. “Hey…” Alex’s hands came to gently grip at Casey’s shoulder, pulling her attention to her instead of letting her get lost in her own thoughts again, “look at me.”
“Maybe you should just go without me.” Casey mumbled, her eyes darting to the ground. Alex’s hand left her shoulder, a finger curling under her chin, lifting it so she could catch her eye.
“Why don’t you tell me what’s really going on here? Because I’ve never seen you like this before.”
Casey felt her lip begin to tremble as she looked up into the sapphire eyes full of concern gazing down upon her and she let out a soft sigh, dropping onto the ottoman behind her. In extra reassurance, Alex dropped down, balancing on her toes, her hands softly rubbing at Casey’s thighs.
“I’m…not good enough.” She finally let out, sighing heavily as she wrapped her arms around herself, “I don’t belong at country clubs…unless I’m working in one.”
“I can call and cancel the reservation? Tell my parents to meet us somewhere else?” Alex offered softly and Casey let out a watery laugh, shaking her head.
“The club’s not the problem here.”
“Well what is?”
“Me.” Casey stated bluntly, quickly standing and pushing past Alex, moving out of the closet back into the bedroom.
“Casey…c’mon…. talk to me.”
Casey glanced from the mirror up to her girlfriend and suddenly she felt worse about the pity party she was throwing herself. Sure, she was second guessing everything, and her feelings were completely valid, she’d been tossed to the curb so many times before she was just sure it was about to happen again. It had been one of the things she’d been wary about getting into a relationship with Alex in the first place, their backgrounds and histories were completely different. But in that moment, she looked across to those beautiful blue eyes and they were filled with tears, Alex was hurting for her, not herself.
“I’m sorry….” She murmured, dropping down onto the bed as she swiped away a stray tear. Alex’s heart was thundering in her chest, her anxiety trying to force its way in to cloud her brain as she watched Casey take a shuddering breath. Gently, she sat on the edge of the bed beside her, leaving her hand palm up on her thigh, waiting for Casey to feel comfortable enough to reach out.
“Do you want to cancel?”
“I don’t want to be the reason we bail on your parents.”
“I’ll tell ‘em I was trying to make you brunch and sliced my hand open. They’ll believe that.” The blonde teased, nudging at her with her shoulder and Casey let out a tiny laugh.
“I’m just scared.” She finally admitted, her hand slinking into Alex’s while she looked up at her girlfriend, “parent’s never like me. They’re never gonna think I’m good enough for you.”
“How so?” Alex’s thumb began to gently rub over her knuckles and Casey let out a weary sigh.
“You went straight to school, straight to Harvard, graduated top of your class. You’re cut out for this world, this job… I had to take two years off and wait tables just to get to school, not to mention get throughit. I’m messy, loud, people say I can come off pretty brash, that I don’t think before I speak or act, and honestly, they’re right. You’re always so put together, and you certainly didn’t lose your job at one point.”
“Do you know what else you are?”
“Hmm?” Casey raised a curious brow and couldn’t help the tiny smile when Alex pressed a kiss to her temple.
“You’re extremely passionate, caring, loving, and incredibly fun. You make me laugh, you make me feel safe and protected, that I can always turn to you no matter what. You make my anxiety disappear, and calm me through my nightmares, and lord knows I eat a hell of a lot less takeout because you take the time out of your busy schedule to cook for me, everyday. My parents don’t care where you came from, they care that you make their only daughter happy, and that she feels loved. Which I do. And I love you so fucking much, if by some freak accident they didn’t like you? I wouldn’t care, and we’d never have to see them again.”
“Really?”
“Really.” Alex’s hand shifted up, caressing the side of her face before leaning in, pressing a kiss to the tip of her nose. “I love you, and that’s all that matters.”
“I love you too.” She repeated, the glimmer in her eyes beginning to return, and this time not from the tears.
“If we’re going, we’re going to have to leave in fifteen. You think you can decide on an outfit in that much time?” Alex raised a teasing brow and Casey scoffed, playfully swatting at her before standing from the bed and examining herself in the mirror.
“Honestly I don’t think I’m gonna get better than this at this point.”
“Well I for one, think you look gorgeous.” Alex complimented, coming up behind her, wrapping an arm around her waist and pressing a kiss to her shoulder.
“You always say that.” She rolled her eyes.
“Well that’s because it’s the truth.”
“Thank you.” Casey murmured, turning from the mirror to kiss Alex softly, her hand cupping her cheek.
“You ready to go? I promise I will get a drink in your hand the second we walk in.”
“Just don’t leave my side and I think I’ll make it through.”
“I’m not going anywhere sweetheart.” Alex took her hand, giving it a soft squeeze before the two of them gathered their things and finally left the apartment.
Casey could feel her worry building up from her gut into her chest as the car got closer and closer to the country club. It was as if Alex could feel it without Casey having to say anything, her hand squeezing softly at hers, or giving her a little smile, a tender kiss on the cheek to remind her that she had her back, no matter what.
As Alex had expected, her parents absolutely adored Casey. They couldn’t care less about the issues Casey always worried about, they saw just how incredibly happy and in love their daughter was, and that all those happy feelings went both way between the two of them. That Casey was as deeply in love as Alex was, and that really was all that mattered. Casey managed to relax, and by the halfway point, was no longer clinging onto Alex’s hand for dear life, laughing and joking with the Cabot’s. By the end of the meal, Alex’s dad had excitedly dragged Casey off to show off the brand-new sports complex of the club, and Casey didn’t even look back at Alex worriedly.
“Well…” her mother turned toward her with a soft smile on her face, “she’s absolutely adorable.”
“I know.” Alex smiled, completely unaware of the dreamy look on her face as she watched Casey disappear around the corner.
“You two will come for Thanksgiving next month, right?”
“As long as we don’t get pulled into work, we’ll be there.”
“Good. I really want to get to know her better, make sure she knows just how happy she makes my Alexandra.”
“Mom…” Alex groaned, though she couldn’t help but smile.
She had to admit, meeting the parents was always nerve-wracking, no matter what the circumstances were, but here, things had gone as smoothly as possible. Everyone had a wonderful afternoon, and Casey was back to her normal smiling self by the time they were saying goodbyes. The most important part of the day was that there was love surrounding everyone, everywhere, everyone was happy, and love would always win.
