Hello! This is a ramble-style masterpost type thing about the version of c!Benchtrio that is in my fic “Heal What Has Been Hurt.” It is filled with headcanons, ramblings, interpretations and general behind the scenes things that I’ve had in mind when it comes to how I write them and their various gender presentations throughout the course of the fic.

I’d like to say that I am a GNC fem-presenting AFAB transman. This is just something to keep in mind when it comes to my thoughts and opinions on the concept of gender, gender identity and presentation. If anything here doesn’t align with your personal experiences, that’s okay! Just please don’t be an asshole, because this is based upon MY experiences with gender identity and is inherently quite personal for me.

Another thing I’d like to say is that while the majority of what I say here is related to my AU fic, some things reflect my feelings around DSMP canon and my perspectives of the characters

I always wanna remind that HWHBH!Benchtrio’s relationship is strictly queerplatonic and that anything described here is not meant to be taken as romantic or heaven’s for-fucking-bid sexual. If you think something here is…just….keep it to yourself and don’t say it to me. Pretty fuckin please.

And on that last note, nothing here is meant to apply to ANY of the CCs who created these characters. This is about the characters and ONLY the characters. This isn’t a place for truthing or whatever. Get the fuck outta here with dat shit.

Let’s get into it, shall we!

For starters, let’s start off with the basic idea that, to me, Mister Author Man, whose opinions on these characters obviously shape the way I write them but shouldn’t be taken as the word of god when it comes to vague stuff that’s more open to interpretation, all 3 of HWHBH!Benchtrio embody a sort of “archetype” of masculinity. A different flavor, one might say. Their presentations and performances of the concept vary, but the core idea of “man-ess” is present in all 3, albeit to varying extents.

If we want to go in order from “most masc” to “least masc” in terms of traditional ideas/roles, then let’s begin with our darling little draggie goat HWHBH!Tubbo.

HWHBH!Tubbo is buff.

HWHBH!Tubbo is fat, muscular, and heavy set.

HWHBH!Tubbo is short but built like a full-grown bull, horns and muscles and all.

And above all else, HWHBH!Tubbo is the member of the trio that to me embodies the sort of masculinity that I shall lovingly deem “The Stronk Guy.”

When it comes to how he’s dressed/often described, you rarely see HWHBH!Tubbo in anything traditionally feminine. He wears tank-tops, button-ups, heavy coats and thick winter pants. He wears overalls,which are a very boyish sort of clothing item commonly associated with the American South and physical labor, usually on a farm. The two sets of horns of his head make up for his generally short stature, making him seem as tall as he is wide, thus increasing the intimidating presence he has thanks to his claws, scales, wings and oh yeah constant smoke that pours out from every hole on his round little face. Round face=wide facial features=square shape. Squares in terms of character design are often used for characters that are sturdy and strong with a big presence in the scenes they’re in. Another very “macho” trait. Manly men get your attention as soon as they are in the room.

Out of the 3, Tubbo is the one that works out the most.

He is the one who performs most maintenance-based tasks around the house, such as repairing furniture.

He helps with the farms in Snowchester and lifts many heavy tools.

He’s the one that gets a spider out of the house when it scares Michael when he goes to lay in his little race car bed.

He picks both of HWHBH!Alliumduo up like they weigh nothing.

And he is the one that makes Tommy go from “C!Tommy if he had proper therapy” to “stereotypical young teen girl swooning over her popular jock crush in an early 2000’s disney channel original movie” thanks to those burly arms of his. He has a way. With the Tommy.

Boy could snap you like a motherfucking glowstick-

Basically, when in regards to his gender and overall presentation, HWHBH!Tubbo is the kind of boy who is best at home in himself when he can go at with his power tools in the lab and go home wiping the sweat from his brow to his two lovely partners so that he can eat dinner, help with all the dishes, take a bath and kiss both his children’s foreheads, then flop himself onto the bed and hug both of his platonic husband’s.

He isn’t a very girly boy.

And that is okay!

HWHBH!Tubbo doesn’t feel drawn to most typical “girly” things. He mostly wears earth-tones along with his coats and leather jackets. He likes flowers, yeah. But everyone likes flowers! And he cannot cook for shit, so in his mind, he really isn’t the “”lady”” of this household.

(Any usage of words like “woman”, “man”, lady-like or “manly” here are intended to refer to the traditional stereotypical Western ideas behind gender and gender roles. Just as a friendly reminder!)

But there’s a reason behind heal!Tubbo’s specific brand of manliness that isn’t just his personal preference. Think back to Manburg. Pogtopia era. Think back to the time when c!Tubbo served as a political spy during a time of war against a nation that was ruled by c!Schlatt: a bumbling idiot obsessed with “gains” and protein powder who constantly hurled verbal abuse and beat down on anyone who defied him, be it physically with his hands or politically through various abuses of authority.

c!Schlatt is an almost Comical icon of toxic masculinity. Loud. Harsh. Always quick to Anger. Aggressive and self absorbed. Dismissive of the emotions of others including his own and valuing raw strength and power above all else. On several occasions, there were scenes where he’d directly attack the masculinity of the cabinet members, be it telling c!Fundy(a transman!) that he’ll “never be a man” or talking down to c!Tubbo and calling him weak, soft, cowardly and all manner of insults commonly hurled at people our society sees as men who don’t conform to a rigid binary.

With hwhbh!Tubbo, he has taken that weakness that an abuser saw in him and Embraced it for the strength it actually is. He is soft. He’s fat with a big round belly! He’s physically strong, yes, again, bulk like a tank. But in terms of his emotions, by Schlatt’s standards, he’s much Weaker than he used to be because of how open and vulnerable he is: and that’s a Good Thing.

Manliness isn’t toughing it out and beating down on anyone that defies you. Manliness is giving your 2 kids 20 kisses on they little heads as you hold them to your chest and carry them upstairs for bedtime.

Manliness is Softness.

Manliness is Openness.

Manliness is Gentleness.

Manliness can let you Heal.

Let’s talk about heal!Ranboo. Much like Tubbo, Ranboo has a pretty typically masculine presentation. He wears suits, formal vests, sweaters and button-ups, but has a dash of more feminine apparel with his various earrings and rings and necklaces that contrast to the lone wedding bane and bee-charm bracelet we see on heal!Tubbo.

Fashion aside, heal!Ranboo’s sheer height makes him stick out like a sore thumb. He’s a tall, thin creature with long, gangly limbs and shiny scales. He’s a fighter! He knows how to handle himself in a scuffle. He prefers to use his words and to avoid fighting via diplomacy, but he is not afraid to use violence(or at the very least Threaten To) when it comes to Clingyduo or his children. It’s best to say he simply has a bit more self Restraint than Tubbo. But only Just.

heal!Ranboo is the middle child of heal!Benchtrio. Despite this, he is the universally agreed upon “mature one” and often takes the role of the “””straight””” man compared to clingyduo’s goofy mischief.

With this notable maturity, Healboo, like his counterpart in canon, takes it upon himself to be the household’s main Provider. He’s the breadwinner. The moneymaker. The one who goes out each day to work and toil in the mines to gather resources to bring home. He brings home the bacon! Therefore, he is also the one in charge of the family’s Finances. His name is on the contract for the mansion’s construction. There were many jokes about c!Tubbo being a golddigger, way back when the two first got married. I see no reason to say that there weren’t similar jokes made between the two when they first got together in HWHBH.

Financial control is a right that’s long been limited to men. Men do the work, pay the bills, own the house and make the Big Choices for a family.

Going back to the point about his skills in combat, it is traditionally a Man’s job to protect his family. It’s Man’s Work to be tough and fend off the danger. The man brings home the Kill(money and household finances) while the woman cooks, cleans, raises the children and provides whatever Affection her husband may require. Golddiggers, as a concept, are women who specifically seek out Wealthy Men to reap the riches from this(very harmful) arrangement.

But all of this hinges on the idea that a man is a tough, strong, scary, loud go-getter who’ll lash out at any opportunity to climb up The Ladder ™.

If not that, then a wealthy man is one who has to be Smart. Clever. Good with his words. A charmer. A suave, dapper figure in fitted clothes with well-kept hair. A man with visible wealth in the form of pretty jewelry. A tall, dark and handsome kind of fella. A princely sort! This type of Man is one you see at gentlemen’s clubs and cashios who most certainly is inclined towards the academics.

hwhbh!Ranboo is. Basically that. He’s just transmasc. And aromantic asexual. And platonically gay. And riddled with 70 flavors of psychosis that’s worsened by his severe anxiety, paranoia and memory issues.

(hwhbh!Ranboo is, specifically, a young trans man who had his body hijacked and controlled by an older man in a position of authority who used that control to abuse him and his loved ones. Just a side note to think about)

Basically, hwhbh!Ranboo has the Aesthetics of the “tall, dark and handsome and filthy Rich suave ladies man” type of manhood…just as a paint over a very anxious, very emotionally-driven young queer boy.

He spoils his beloveds. He coddles and pampers them. He is a partner who finds joy in showering his qpps with material gifts In Tandum with his physical affection and words of praise. In many “traditional”(read: sexist and fucked up) circles, this would make him someone who is perceived as Weak. He’d be Emasculated for his behavior.

But ofc, he’d be denied his manhood in the first place in these types of circle, because being trans, heal!Ranboo’s masculinity is one Directly in contrast to the roles he’d be put into on the basis of his birth sex.

That makes you think: maybe there’s a reason Ranboo sticks to very masculine dress when he’s out and about, and only wears stuff like dresses and skirts when he’s at home with his two partners. People he trusts. People he feels safe around.

heal!Ranboo is a breadwinner/provider who turns to those he provides for for comfort and safety.

Manliness is seeking Comfort.

Manliness is not viewing your Fears as a Flaw.

Manliness is indulging in self Expression that makes you feel the most like Yourself.

Manliness is showing Love to those you care for.

Manliness is Caring.

Manliness is Gentleness.

Now. Let’s talk about the main character protagonist himself. c!Tommy. The boy. The guy himself. The most character ever of all time in the history of anything.

hwhbh!Tommy is, to put it simply: A pretty boy.

He’s very pretty! He’s got long hair that goes well past his shoulders, shiny blue eyes, a lean(for the most part) figure that makes him rather petite next to Beeduo, and a pair of earthy brown wings that have flecks of gold on each feather. He wears skirts, dresses, lace, silk and cardigans. Most of his outfits have either natural earthy tones(greens, blues, browns, etc) or brighter pastels(purple, pink, white etc). He wears jewelry. He had butterfly pins that he bought from Claries.

On top of that, he’s got a shit ton of plushies, blankets, pillows and general soft cutesie comfort items. Plushie Henry is a big one.

He’s got many traditionally girly hobbies and interests. Knitting. Sewing. Cooking/baking. Gardening. He loves to sing and likes to read about the symbolism of different flowers. He’s made a point for there to be plenty of plant life in the Big Innit such as in the lobby and connected cafe. While video games are stereotype as being a “boys’ thing”, one of heal!Tommy’s favorite games is OMORI, which is a game with a very cutesy art style that consists of soft pastel colors and a cute, feel good ost. Again. Very girly, very pretty.

heal!Tommy is a character that I’ve given a lot of my Personal Gender Stuff as a transguy who found myself leaning into a lot of girly cutesy feminine things when I was first recovering from my trauma. For me, it was a matter of being able to indulge in media/hobbies/aesthetics that gave me a sense of comfort and safety while also further allowing me to explore my gender.

For hwhbh!Tommy, it’s a matter of him finally being able to indulge in what gives him the most joy without being hurt for it: loving things, loving people, and caring for them. Being a nurturer.

Who sings to the flowers to help them grow?

Who made a Prime Path and keeps it maintained?

Who inspired Wilbur Soot to make L’manburg, acting as a sibling’s muse?

Who fills the server with music? With song?

Who reaches out and tries to mend broken relationships?

Who forgives?

Who tries his very best to understand, even when it hurts him more?

Who is the person that takes care of the server?

c!Tommy is a character who is Driven by Love. Platonic love. Familial Love. This boy loves and he loves to SHOW his love to people by caring for them in whatever way he is able to. He isn’t always the best at it. He is often brash and harsh and loud and blunt and yes, annoying. He’s a little shit.

He’s weird in a weird little girl way.

He is also an incredibly caring, sweet, emotionally intelligent person who always puts the needs of others First Before His own, often always to his own detriment. Caring for cWilbur in Pogtopia. Reaching out to cBeeduo during the outpost. Forgiving cEmeraldduo, time and time again. Asking his abuser “why don’t you hurt” while in the prison.

In my experience as an AFAB individual, women* (*or people society views as women) are expected to 1: keep their own emotions bottled up and tend to the emotional needs of others around them, 2: be quiet, submissive, polite and “ladylike” 24/7 constantly. Or else we will be labeled as annoying hysterical bitches who are just looking for attention.

Sound familiar?

In HWHBH, Tommy’s gradual shift from his original masculine presentation of a plain t shirt and pants to his current mix of sweaters, skirts and dresses is a visual way to show his shift throughout his recovery.

At the start of the fic, Tommy was still riding the aftershocks of his near-death in the prison. He wore simple clothes, lived in an empty house, hardly ate, slept and was unable to take care of himself. The entire first chapter is XD watching him nearly freeze to death because he wandered out into the forest without a coat while dissociating. His hair was thin and cut short. He thought that beeduo wanted nothing to do with him. He was unwell. He was alone.

But look at him now. Long, thick hair. Healthy diet. Gained some weight. (Mostly) healthy sleep schedule. Lots of family members and friends he talks to daily, either in person or over the phone.

He has a garden.

He sings to the flowers.

He sings constantly.

He is always singing or talking or downing something. He enjoys doing chores. He thinks it’s fun.

Throughout the entirety of the DSMP storyline, c!Tommy was punished for Wanting. For wanting People. For wanting to be Loved. For wanting TO love without having whatever/whoever he cared about taken away. Now he has a child(2 actually, he’s just silly and hasn’t realized it) and a father and 2 platonic partners who love him dearly. He has hobbies and favorite TV shows. He grows his hair out, wears skirts and plays with his father’s make-up. He gets flustered when Beeduo call him pretty or beautiful. He watches Sailor Moon. He made an oc self insert for it. He regularly daydreams about heal!beeduo being tuxedo mask the same way a female lead in a teen romcom talks about going on cheesy dates with her crush. He has a flower cow with buttercups on it.

Michael calling him Mummy and Shroud calling him Mimi doesn’t need an explanation, I feel.

For a character whose main joke catchphrase is some variation of “I’m a Big Man”, cTommy really is very Girl Coded. Hwhbh!Tommy is just the result of me taking that and amplifying it for the sake of comedy and fluff. Mostly fluff. Because I think he’s a character who deserves the softness that can come from “girl stuff” and things we commonly associate with femininity.

Masculinity and Femininity and all forms of gender stuff and gender expression are, at the end of the day, just made up gobbledy gook we humans made up in the same way we made up shit like Money and Language. But I still like to talk about them, because it’s a topic I find to be very interesting and important when it comes to storytelling.

Manliness is Nurturing.

Manliness is Loyalty.

Manliness is the capacity to care for and protect and fight for what you value the most.

Manliness is the attempt, however vain, to understand the people around you(though ofc, there are always times when you shouldn’t because it isn’t Safe for you)

Manliness, like Womanliness, is whatever YOU want to make of it. Same with any other clusterfuck of a queer identity.

I just think that hwhbh!Benchtrio’s gender stuff is fun to talk about. I hope you enjoyed reading about it :)

basically Vox has been a regressor for a long time, since before Val was even around and shortly after they started dating he explained it to him and Val was like "hey I wanna try that too!" and Vox was like "great when I'm not regressed I can be your caregiver" but Val started expecting Vox to be big for him all the time and Vox doesn't ever get a chance to regress when Vals around

Even if Val isn't regressed he still reprimands Vox for regressing even though he pretended to be accepting at first and even tried it for himself

Vel babies Vox when Val isn't around but that's not often

aight. dsmp headcanons/worldbuilding that’s technically ideas i have for hybrids in general Outside of minecraft, but we’re using it for minecraft/the dsmp for right now. here we go:

(small warnings for dehumanization, mentioned traumatic experiences (mentioned abuse, car crash, almost death, etc), mentioned kidnappings, mentioned slavery, mentioned murders)

(also, this is about the characters)

-okay. headcanon/idea one: hybrids aged 2-7 mostly follow the instincts of their mob/animal half, making them act more like a younger member of said species.

this one is pretty straight forward.

an example: a young cat hybrid might act more like a kitten, an avian would act like a baby bird, an enderman hybrid acts more like an enderman, etc.

there are very rare cases where the hybrid either acts like a regular fully human baby, or where they retain their behavior up until ages like 9 or 10. the oldest recorded age as of late is 12.

of course, cases where a hybrid retains their behaviors longer usually only occur if the hybrid in question was not raised in the correct environment or were raised ‘feral’ (aka, In The Wilderness).

how this applies to the dsmp: c!tommy. as i’ve mentioned (and is at least somewhat canon), he wasn’t fully raised by wilbur. he was created in a lab, lived in a village for several years, found tubbo and travelled around with him for about a year, and then was found by wilbur and taken in. he was one of those hybrid children who retained his more raccoon-like behaviors for longer than normal; up until he was 9, to be exact. i don’t really think i need to say why.

also: me attempting to find some way to explain the baby fundy lore we got-

-headcanon/idea two: reverting. aka, a possible trauma response for hybrids.

here we go, time to explain this:

so, basically, reverting is a form of a trauma response that hybrids get where their more nonhuman instincts take the forefront as a way to survive better after a prolonged traumatic experience. it got it’s name from scientists referring to what happens as the hybrid “reverting (due to lack of a better term) to their nonhuman instincts.” not...the Best way to word that, but it is a Way to word it-

as said earlier, it’s more of a way to try and survive better. a hybrid’s brain gets exposed to repeated trauma and basically goes “well...the Human Instincts clearly aren’t helping...so maybe the Nonhuman Instincts will help better!”

also, one final thing to note before continuing: it’s not like the hybrids act Completely like their nonhuman half. it’s more like they’re more quick to jump straight into those instincts during stressful and other traumatic experiences.

how it happens: it’s caused by prolonged traumatic experiences. so, nothing like, say, a sudden car crash or a near-death experience would cause this to happen. stuff like being in an abusive relationship or being tortured for several weeks or months, however, would be more likely to cause that to happen.

most of the nonhuman instincts and behaviors are involuntary for the suffering hybrid. they can’t control a lot of the these (stuff like hissing, puffing up fur/feathers, purring, growling, or making noises are some examples)

uh, ‘fun’ history fact! back in the Very olden days of minecraft history (think around the time of The Village That Went Mad, since i see this being a time this would’ve been normalized during), humans and hybrids...were Not friendly with one another. more specifically, hybrids were effectively taken as slaves, kidnapped from their homes and groups, straight up being slaughtered, y’know: nothing great. hybrids began ‘reverting’ as a way to survive (keep in mind, Out Of Trauma), and most of the humans just started using it as a way to say that the hybrids were less than human and not worthy of their respect. so guess what? Hybrids Now Have A Historical Issue With Trying To Repress Their Instincts When They Revert So People Will Still Respect Them. Great. just what everyone needed-

while there Are still mostly human communities, they still try to learn about hybrid stuff as there are many hybrids all around the world. so basically, c!ponk trying to learn about caring for hybrids as a doctor, both physically and mentally-

one final piece of info: it is possible to be a “late bloomer” in ‘reverting’. what does that mean? it basically means that you don’t ‘revert’ until After the traumatic experience is Over. no one is sure as to why this happens.

how this relates to the dsmp: c!tommy and c!quackity. let me explain:

c!tommy’s behaviors: hissing/growling (angry and/or scared), chittering (typically while anxious or stressed, but can just start doing it randomly), sprinting on all fours (typically only done while fleeing and then suddenly tripping. see: the logstedshire chase scene), lashing his tail similarly to a cat (angry, agitated, or anxious), climbing (he just has more of a compulsion to do this than just using blocks to build up), cleaning food or items in water (this is typically done while tommy isn’t really thinking about it), and (having the feeling/compulsion to) scratch or bite people as a defense mechanism (typically only done when he’s scared or angry, like when he feels threatened by someone (around dream, normally)). it’s also easier for him to become aggressive or try to run away from conflicts. i don’t really think i need to say where this ended up developing for tommy. he also ended up being a ‘late bloomer’, having ‘reverted’ towards the beginning of the bedrock bros arc. which, y’know, due to one of his biggest behaviors being chittering while nervous and he was trying to hide, wasn’t great.

c!quackity’s behaviors: fluffing his wings up more than what is considered normal amount (when he’s angry, agitated, afraid, or trying to intimidate someone), fluttering his wings (kinda anxious or angry, something he’d typically do while pacing around), and making a small ‘quack’ noise (typically when he’s surprised or caught off guard). he’s also just in general quicker to get aggressive. his traumatic events were his time in manberg (specifically with schlatt) and his time during new l’manberg (think about it: he was probably constantly stressed as well as worried that his home would be destroyed). his is slightly harder to notice due to his behaviors being, for the most part, slightly more exaggerated behaviors that most avians have (puffing up feathers, fluttering wings while stressed, etc).

so yeah, these are just thoughts about hybrids in general that i’ve translated over to minecraft/the dsmp. i tried to word this the best i could.

Time for personal c!Dre, and c!q headcanons!

Dream:

• He has phantom (a.i. mob) blood. But the genes are very watered down. He pretty much only has leftover instincts and slightly glowing eyes. He's also a bit sensitive to sunlight, but it doesn't hurt him, it's just uncomfortable.

• He has multiple children, abandoned all of them in different ways. One of them has been revealed in my Tommy hc post from earlier.

Personal hc (dre):

• He was born in a bad and abusive family, deadbeat drunk of a father, druggie mother.

• He killed his parents to escape with his siblings, he worked odd jobs to afford some education. He lived in hypixel dorms during this time while his siblings were all taken from him to other servers.

• His family and Quackitys family has one common ancestor, but that is way too far in the past to pose any significance for them they are practically unrelated.

• Mamacita is his twin sister, her real name is Clam, and she is amab, but trans.

• Drista barely recognizes him. Her real name is Dredre.

• He had a purely business based relationship with Jschlatt often sleeping with the man for various favors including to get the revival book. He hated every experience though. And low-key pityed Quackity for making the naive mistake of falling for such a man.

Quackity!:

• He is very motherly.

• He is the legal parent of Tubbo, thinks of Slimecicle/Charlie as his own child, and cares about Fundy just as much.

• Up until his betrayal Purpled was also considered as his own.

• He later learns that Punz is Purpleds legal guardian.

• He loved Schlatt and still hasn't realized fully that what they had wasn't love.

• He still loves Karl and Sapnap and hopes every day they will come apologise and that they all can go back to what they had.

• His relationship with Wilbur in private is purely physical give&take. He takes out his frustrations and loneliness on the older and Wilbur takes it unquestioningly. He is developing feelings for the man but is too scared to love anew and to let go of his fiancès.

Personal HC time (quack):

• After his fight with Technoblade half his face is horribly disfigured, he has trouble eating and breathing because of it, touching the injury or looking at it makes him panic until he passes out.

• He lost the eye on the damaged side of his face.

• The damaged side is permanently paralyzed.

• He was often found unconscious by Charlie and taken to bed by it.

• He wears a custom made mask to cover the injury.

• He is secretly planning to abandon Las Nevadas, with Charlie and Fundy disappearing and Purpled betraying him he feels very discouraged from continuing his country. Plus he wants to move to Kinoko anyways, he knows he shouldn't, but his heart yearns for his fiancés to the point where its becoming painful.

• He and Mexican Dream are distant cousins, sharing a common ancestor a handful of generations back.

• In the Minecraft universe his family line began as sl4v€s.

• Just like every other shapeshifter he hides his ability as much as possible even if it hurts.

• Upon learning that he could shapeshift, Jschlatt forced him to be a woman, his specific request was "Stay as you are but give me something good to work with in the bedroom."

• Because of Jschlatts overall treatment and also dysphoria, he despises the thought of turning into a woman.

• He had one miscarriage because of Schlatt and that's where his motherlines stems from. It wasn't Schlatt's baby and the man knew. He was smart enough to figure out from being informed of the baby being one month old, that it was from that one party Quackity went to a month prior.

• He despises his wings and is soon going to ask Wilbur to amputate them.

• He is flightless dude to Schlatt breaking and disfiguring his wings alot.

• Alex is a typical shapeshifter name, but this fact is unknown outside of shapeshifter culture.

• Shapeshifters like Quackity have a relatively short lifespan compared to humans. At best they live 5% less than the global average, at worst 20-25% or more.

poetry is so nice. i used to write poetry sometimes when i was in really bad moments of mental health stuff, so most of my poetry is really triggering probably. i totally understand you with feeling like characters are living and breathing people, i feel that so much. i had an oc who i adored some years ago and haven’t touched on her since those years ago. unfortunate, i miss her so much (her name is june btw). i miss writing, it’s one of the only things i’ve ever truly shared and created because i used to be good at it, but now i think i’ve lost a lot of that. the last thing i wrote was a short c!ranboo poem that i posted a few months ago (i think). and i completely get you, makes total sense. i think writing in that way is really nice

i don't have all the energy atm to explain my full headcanons but basically i had a fic AU set in a modern, non-fantastical universe where the osmp cast lived in this smaller quaint town and eventually o!Ranboo left to move into the city after a natural disaster event happened in the other town and caused her some trauma. her relationships are generally strained but are better with some people than others but inevitably she is able to find her way home. there's more to it than that but that was my idea hehe

poetry is so so so fucking healing seriously, and honestly like! any kind of writing is so important to keep regardless of whether it fits on this metric of "good/bad", like. it's coming from the heart and your experiences and these characters that you connect to (june sounds lovely by the way, <3) and that's what's most important. i've had to give myself a lot of grace with cough syrup about whether or not i was writing it perfectly because, yeah, the first couple of chapters are objectively on the shittier end compared to the rest of the fic. but what matters is that it conveyed what i wanted it to, and it gave me a way to spend that summer, and it meant a lot to me.

i hope this isn't uncomfortable to say but the fact that your csranboo uses the name mare because of me makes me like, tear up a little. and yes, i remember that anon! i find it so interesting how many people have asked me about alternate names i'd give the characters for purposes of fictives because to be entirely honest i am so ungodly shitty with names that every time i flounder LMAO, but it's very sweet that people ask me haha . also tell your cstubbo i say hello as well , there are many brain guys in this community too and i think that's realy neat honestly

YO! thank you so much for answering my ask! I know it’s a silly thing to say thanks for but honestly I was kinda a little nervous to ask initially and ty your response helped me a lot! :D

I hope you don’t mind but I also wanted to ask a little follow up- Cause my personal shot in the dark for what he got going on was his initial feelings of insecurity or resentment from others disregarding him making him prideful to not take the help when given- kinda like ‘oh so you’re just NOW helping me? Fuck off!’ Type of attitude. Am I correct or am I missing the dot a little?

I know this is going a little more into the personal hc or over-thinking territory, but I wanted to know what your take is on it! because I feel like the pieces are there for schlatt to have a complicated relationship with genuinely trusting people and opening up to them, I’m just not sure entirely if my train of thought is true to his character if that makes sense.

(Sorry that this is a weird question… I’m trying to write a fic that pairs c!schlatt up with an unlikely character- my own version/interpretation of michael B.- and trust is kinda a theme I wanted to see I could connect the dots with more)

That’s a very interesting interpretation! I can definitely see that being a fairly solid headcanon. As for canon evidence and my own interpretation, though, it seems like he’s just always been prideful from the get-go. I mean, he was confident enough to randomly start his own party in the middle of an election. That, to me, shows a lot of pride. He never really asked for help, nor did he ever really accept it when it was given. In a way, he took the support around him for granted imo

As for themes of trust, though, there’s a lot to be said I think! Schlatt definitely has a lot of issues trusting people and genuinely opening up (he tends to fake introspection to get what he wants but that obviously doesn’t count). The only person he really seemed to genuinely open up to and trust, in my opinion, was Fundy. Which makes sense, since Fundy knew so much about Schlatt (as shared in A Spy’s Diary), and Schlatt seemed genuinely distraught when Fundy’s betrayal was revealed on November 16th (lashing out, hitting Fundy, shouting things like “who’s gonna lift dumbbells with me, man?!”, etc.)

I think Schlatt felt the need to keep up appearances. He loved having that power both because it just felt good, but I think he also loved having it because it made him feel stronger than he actually was. Drinking protein, doing curls while talking to people, constantly belittling those around him and insinuating they’re weak, I think it was all—at least partly—done to compensate for how weak he was, you know? He was the Big Strong Man that couldn’t be touched, or at least he tried to make it seem that way.

Schlatt was also just generally paranoid when it came to those around him. There’s this pretty good clip from Wilbur’s “techno and wilbur make cave better” stream where Tubbo is in Pogtopia, and Schlatt joins the call and demands to know where Tubbo is. From what I can remember, he does this a lot. He needs to know where everyone is at any given moment, because I think a part of him didn’t trust them one bit. Of course, he was right to, but he didn’t know that until later. Here’s the clip I was talking about, by the way. Keep watching until about 31:20.

So yeah your interpretation isn’t completely unbelievable, but I think c!Schlatt’s trust issues mainly stem from his need to keep appearances, general paranoia, and his near constant inebriation

i think some wilburian grievances arent simply “tommy has the white streak in fanart even when its not canon,” i think its the general dislike of fandom attributing traits that are unique to or most prevalent in c!wilbur to other characters and ignoring or demonizing their same presence in him. i’ve seen people also get annoyed about ghost stuff (making every ghost a slightly aesthetically recolored ghostbur when the way ghostbur is specifically is a manifestation of c!wilbur’s trauma), the pogtopia coat, friend’s wool, etc. i think its more a feeling of “cant we have one thing?” than a “THE INNITERS CANT HAVE THIS,” though some people are certainly like that. i know most inniters do this out of love for the character, but sometimes that message isnt conveyed to wilburians, a group which are already on edge due to the wider fandom. fr a fandom-sibling type beat issue imo

if I'm gonna be honest, I don't think the examples you used really illustrate your point, because most of those come off as either silly or missing the context behind headcanons or why they happened. they're also just, completely missing the demonization aspect entirely.

when I think about the fandom taking traits from wilbur and then demonizing wilbur himself, I'm reminded of the fact that the fake version of c!dream that dream apologists have created in their mind is, essentially, wilbur's character and wilbur's arc stole and repurposed to make wilbur the viillain in dream's story.

with the pogtopia coat or friend's wool, the connection to wilbur is entirely the point.

there's first, the mourning aspect. wilbur was one of if not the most important and influential person in tommy's life, and wilbur was dead. with no grave to grieve at and nothing left of wilbur's l'manberg (or even new l'manberg) tommy didn't Have anything of wilbur left to clutch onto. and having Things to connect to People, to signify those relationships you had with them, is something that's integral to tommy's character.

having tommy wear wilbur's coat in exile not only Gives him that object to mourn with, to Hold Onto wilbur from a sentimental perspective. but it also was a visible metaphor for wilbur's influence on him (both through laying the foundations of tommy's beliefs And through ghostbur's presence and support through the beginning of exile) holding him together when he had nothing else.

tommy's own clothes are ripped and dirty and bloody, but wilbur's coat keeps him warm and dry. wilbur may be gone now but bond between them still keeps tommy going.

the coat is the compass, it's important Because Of it's inherent connection to wilbur and what it says about tommy's connection to him.

likewise, having these two visibly match each other with the white streak Reinforces that character connection. this idea that no matter how strained their relationship may be, no matter how angry or scared or upset they may make each other, they will always be connected. they will Always matter to each other. that bond will always be there, and as long as they're able to they will be drawn to each other.

and it's the same with tommy holding onto friend (in canon) and making a sweater out of friend's wool (in fanon). tommy was, Canonically, the only character to mourn ghostbur. tommy made ghostbur a grave even while tubbo and ranboo insisted that he didn't need one because wilbur was revived. likewise, tommy's voice reaches ghostbur in his limbo, with tommy being the Only thing grounding him.

and this is pretty consistent with their relationship being close! ghostbur followed tommy into exile because he wanted to be there for him, even when he couldn't understand the severity of what was happening. he built logstedshire because he wanted to make a Home for tommy and Remembered how upset it made him to see it was blown up during doomsday. he made the compasses because he wanted tommy to still be connected to his friends (to his family, to his home) (and it's no coincidence that many of the headcanons with tommy wearing wilbur's pogtopia jacket include ghostbur giving it to him). he poked holes in dream's manipulation, he lied to dream to try to protect tommy from him even though that was something he found difficult, he stood up for tommy to his dad during doomsday and Mourned what phil had taken away from Them (because wilbur had always wanted to build a home For Them. for his family)

when ghostbur came back after his failed resurrection he implied that his unfinished business was taking care of tommy, and it's implied again that ghostbur watched over tommy's ghost in that brief time that tommy had died.

tommy wanting to keep a piece of ghostbur with him, to have Physical Evidence that someone mourns him, that someone cares about him, that someone Remembers Him is about Celebrating ghostbur and his relationship with tommy, not erasing him.

and like, none of this means that anybody has to Like these headcanons. you don't, and that's fine. but framing it as if these traits are being Stolen and Erased is silly on the face of it and sorely misses the point. the connection to wilbur Is The Point. carrying wilbur (and ghostbur's) memory on after he's gone Is The Point. the fact that this is a character that's had a massive impact on the people around him and will Always be a presence in their lives (will always Matter) is the point.

as for the other point ! I fully agree that it's frustrating when people don't understand that ghostbur's memory issues come from Trauma (Especially in how people use them to infantilize or outright dehumanize him), but the situation with other ghosts happened because of a lack of information.

when ghostbur first appeared we didn't know how ghosts worked, he was our only standard. so when people imagined what ghosts looked like he was the template we had to work off of. (and even then, back when exile was still going on many people started making ghost designs for tommy because well, There Was A Real Concern He Wasn't Gonna Make It. these designs were quite variable, with the most popular probably being the lava themed one considering, You Know)

it was only when we got other ghosts To Compare To that it became 100% apparent that 1: they are all quite different and function in different ways and 2: that ghostbur's memory issues are Unique To Him and not tied to the nature of him Being a ghost.

this is really obvious with ghostboo designs now, which were made entirely with this understanding. the creativity is frankly off the charts, even now that a general consensus has been met for a standard ghostboo design.

it wasn't trying to Steal traits from wilbur, it was just a lack of understanding about how ghosts Worked that we later got more context on.

in a similar vein, while I Do very strongly believe that the white streak being shared between wilbur and tommy Has thematic significance, it's also true that these were just convergent evolution. people have gone back to try to dig for where this design decision came from and it was legitimately just that "white streak after coming back from the dead" is a really common trope that dates back decades that wilburians and inniters Separately thought would be neat. and then when they both became popular enough in their inner circles they started being inspired by each other.

the first post that used this design was about wilbur (because wilbur's potential revival was dropped the same time we learned about the revival book), but it exploded in popularity after tommy was Actually revived months before wilbur. it was through this popularity that cc!wilbur was exposed to it and decided to canonize it.

there was no theft in this situation and there is no real ownership of it. it came from fandom spaces looooong before ours, simple as that.

which all of this gets at the bigger issue that makes me feel the need to comment on this situation at all:

both innocuous fandom decisions And genuinely thought out headcanons and meta (and such) involving wilbur's relationship with other characters are treated the Same as genuine character assassination from certain parts of the fandom because malice is always assumed first. which leads to totally innocuous things being demonized when it's not particularly conductive to the actual conversation that wilburians are trying to have.

we shouldn't be fighting over hair or clothes, we should be unifying against the Real enemy (c!dream apologists that think wilbur and tommy are the devil and steal their character traits to make the fake version of c!dream they made in their head more interesting and more innocent)

Okay, this is actually the most fun I've had writing one of these in a while! Since the character limit is 6, though, I'll be choosing 6 characters who I think would have the most interesting reactions

He's the one who found out first

Among Dream’s various books and stories he’s written, one was a letter to you (Dream knew you’d never read it, but writing it made him feel better)

He told the other guards of the prison, no one else, so he’s not sure how it spread through the SMP, but he only told them so that they could keep an eye on you

He didn’t think you would try to break your father out or anything, but under the odd circumstance that you did, he’d want you on file and eyes to be on you already

It really is just a precautionary measure

As more and more of the server find out about it, he can’t help but to feel guilty

Sticks around you for a bit and offers to help whenever he can

c! Tommy

As soon as he finds out, he gets incredibly nervous around you

He heard that you were his birth daughter, but, even though that wasn't the case, he wouldn't treat you any better if he found out the truth

He talks about you with anger and frustration, using you as an outlet for the abuse he faced at the hands of your father

Whenever he sees you, though he backs away, his eyes widening

His brain makes up a bunch if scenarios about you harming him, terrified that you'll do the same thing to him

He, generally, tries to avoid you and anyone you associate with

Refuses to let Tubbo go anywhere near you

Tells Wilbur about it all during a stress induced rant

When Tommy told him, he got excited

Even though he’s never really cared much for you, being indifferent more than anything, he’s almost offended that you never told him

You may not have your father around anymore, but she doesn't want you to be completely alone, especially at such a stressful time

C!Ranboo, c!Tommy and c!Tubbo x Parental!GN!Reader (FLUFF) (HEADCANON) (LONG)

Au Setting: Au where the war never happened and everything is fairly normal but relationships are still rather strained. Not really canon compliant.

♡When Ranboo first met you thanks to Tommy and Tubbo, he was a little wary of you, but his views on you quickly changed when he found out that you were just trying to be neutral and friendly to everyone in the server like he was and that you even helped everyone who came to you looking for help.

♡He's appreciative of how patient you are with him and his forgetfulness. He knows it can get frustrating but he appreciates that you never get angry at him and just tell him that it's okay. You understand that it isn't really something he can control and just try your best to help him out with it when you can.

♡He likes the bond you have with Tommy and Tubbo. He was a little hesistant to enter your little trio, thinking he'd be a bother since he was pretty much an outsider, but thanks to you, Tommy and Tubbo, you helped made him feel at ease hanging around you three together.

♡He doesn't remember having a parental figure in his life before, but after almost a year of knowing you, he thinks that it's safe enough for him to see you as such. In his memory notebook, he lables you as his mom/dad/parent friend that he can trust. He never tells you about it but he does show it through his actions.

♡While he does trust you with his secrets, the one reason why he won't always tell you about them is because of how you have to manage Tommy and Tubbo's troubles as well. He doesn't want to overwhelm you but sometimes if he thinks he has to let things out he does tend to spill to you. He's grateful that you always listen and comfort him when he does, that you're still willing to care for him even though you have other problems as well.

♡You're rather happy to have Ranboo join your little family and you're beyond estatic that he's the more well behaved one in the trio. As much as you love your feral boys, another one may be too much on your plate. You can trust Ranboo to not cause trouble when you're away and to maken sure the other two don't either.

♡Onto more general headcanons now!

♡So, Tommy and Tubbo like to tease and mess around with Ranboo more so than they do with one another, but when they know that he's now part of the family, they'll protect him just as much as they protect one another and you. Sure he may be older then the both of them, but they aren't going to let anyone mess with him, even if they don't show it.

♡As stated before, Ranboo helps you keep Tommy and Tubbo out of trouble when you ask him to. When they seem to still plan on causing mayhem even though you're just going to be gone for a few minutes, he'll use his height as an advantage and carry both of them under his arms like sacks of potatoes. No matter how many times you see it, you cannot stop yourself from laughing yourself half to death when you see Tommy flailing about and screaming.

♡Before Ranboo, Tommy and Tubbo almost always came over on Monday mornings to have breakfast with you. When they were younger, their fathers usually left on Monday mornings, leaving them in your care during those days. Because of how often it happened, breakfast on Mondays just seemed to be a routine thing you 3 shared. You were quick to invite Ranboo over once you two got comfortable with one another and Ranboo never fails to show up with cake each time, much to the delight of all three of you.

♡Ranboo has a tendency to bring blocks over to your place, placing them haphazardly at times. You didn't really want to remove them, not wanting to upset Ranboo, so you came up with a plan with Tommy and Tubbo to make little structures with them. Lord, you had to promise them cookies so Tommy wouldn't make anything crude out of them and rope Tubbo into it. The structures were placed in an empty field close to your farm and Ranboo was pretty happy with it! He also turned it into his designated block area too instead of your home area, much to your relief.

♡Freaking sleepovers at your place, yes. This happens when Tommy and Tubbo are dealing with a few problems at home and just need some time away from family. All they have to do is show up with bags at your place and you're already opening the door open wide for them no matter what time it is. Ranboo starts joining the sleepovers as well during days where he feels worse than others and just needs some nice company around him. These sleepovers aren't as wild as you think they might be, they're just filled with hot drinks, talking absolute nonsense and sleeping the day away until all of you feel better.

♡Speaking of sleep, you three have freaked out when Ranboo first entered his enderwalk state. You three woke up to the sound of the door being slammed open at 4 am with Ranboo nowhere to be found. You three rushed out only to see him picking up blocks and placing them randomly.

♡You three try calling out to him but nothing happens, so you decide to just follow him around since you're all wide awake now anyways. Things are fine at first with all of you cracking little jokes here and there about the situation but the panic starts back up again when Ranboo almost falls into the river near your home. Seriously, you'd be surprised if all three screams of "RANBOO!" didn't wake up anyone in the server.

♡All three of you had to tackle Ranboo to stop him and drag him away from the river. He was still asleep which amazed you guys, but at least he wasn't an unstoppable moving force anymore. For the first time in a while, you actually locked all your doors and windows just to ensure he wouldn't escape again and thankfully he didn't. You made Tommy and Tubbo promise to never speak of this to him in the morning and to your shock, they agreed, maybe its because they couldn't exactly believe what just happened themselves.

♡After the boys tuck Ranboo and themselves back into their respective sleeping spots you can't help but sigh and smile tiredly as you watch the three of them rest. Well, your troublemaking duo just seemed to turn into a chaotic trio now that Ranboo was in the picture and as you flop yourself back onto your own sleeping spot you can't help but think you wouldn't have it any other way. As you told yourself before, they were your boys, after all.

A: Realistic

I'm sure I've said this before but I love the idea of cRanboo being active in the Enderman community. Like going out for tea w the council, sitting w them in the crater and just gossiping abt everything, they talk to him like Ranboo you will not BELIEVE what Steven did the other day he literally just started stealing grass from people and cRanboo is like No. Way. And maybe Tubbo takes Michael on a walk and an Enderman just teleports in and gives the kid a flower before it dips. Idk just the idea that cRanboo and the Council are all pals and when you don't know where cRanboo is you can likely find him giving them questionable advice around a mouthfull of pastry and the Council sometimes will chill near cRanboo and/or his friends just to make sure they're all safe :)

I feel like cRanboo has a really hard time like... Idk dividing his time between experiencing and remembering. Like when he has really nice moments, just little things like a calm morning drinking coffee on the front porch with Techno and Phil, he always has this moment of like, am I about to try and put what I'm feeling into words and try and describe this moment for my future self, or am I just going to enjoy it while it lasts? Bc like on the one hand, he knows how fragile all of this is, not only could any of his relationships w these people crumble at any moment but also it wouldn't be uncommon for a war to break out or for someone to get killed or for a billion other terrible thins to happen, and he really wants to remember that all of this was real and really happened if it all goes wrong... But on the other hand, he never really feels like he understands when he's rereading his book. Like he knows what the words say, about how nice the morning with Techno and Phil was, how his coffee had a little bit of chocolate in it and Techno told some funny story about an old friend of his, but Ranboo never reads those and feels like he's re-experiencing the moment... I think it takes him a long time to come to terms with just like, taking each moment as it comes, maybe writing down that he haf a nice day with someone but not bothering to waste time he could be spending with them going into too much detail in his descriptions, y'know?

Ok basic af I know but I have this headcanon that Ranboo is royalty from the End but because he's the runt of the litter (tiny by their standards) he wouldn't really be able to contest the throne anyway (I hc that they have a monarchy where the oldest child gets the crown [regardless of gender obviously bc they don't rlly have that so much] unless another child challenges them and wins it thru combat, poor cRanboo is smack dab in the middle of like 7 siblings and is the smallest of all of them so he is Not getting that crown lmao.) I think he went to the overworld in general on his own bc he didn't rlly like the royalty lifestyle and knew he would just end up as like a duke with an arranged marriage so he left to go explore, then heard abt the L'Manberg elections and was like hey if I can't make my home country better maybe I can help out here? But his memory issues which started basically as soon as he traveled dimensions only got worse and worse the longer he stayed in the server so now he doesn't remember his origins :(

I'd like to think all of Ranboo's siblings have similar naming conventions, bc of the pattern of names like Ranbob Ranboo and just Ran I like the idea that Ran is just like a prefix name for all/most Endermen but you just add a different suffix? So Ranboo's siblings could be called like Ranna, Ransom, etc? Idk that does get a bit repetitive I will admit but it's just a thought lol. Tbh I think all of Ranboo's siblings kind of Suck and are kind of full of themselves except for like One who he'd be able to actually take to the overworld and show around, I had a fic abt this at some point in which Tubbo ended up going with him to the End Court so Ranboo could reconnect w his family but shit went wrong and Tubbo had to kick a little ass but I never ended up writing it lmao 😅

Okay, so Dsmp/LN crossover AU

Six n Mono tend to stay in the snow (think Snowchester/Techno, Phil n Ranboo's house) to avoid conflict. RK just sticks with Tubbo, he couldn't care less where Tubbo is at the moment.

RK snarls and is just generally Disturbing and Unsettling whenever they feel anyone is a threat to Tubbo, so c!Quackity doesn't get to say much to Tubbo bc the moment he starts with his bs he's being attacked by a child.

C!Technoblade finds Six interesting. Six is fascinated by him, and tends to stick by his side, if only for protection.

Techno was a bit nervous around Six in the beginning bc she's a small child and is the most fragile-looking thing he's ever come across. But then he saw sharp teeth and they bit him, and he was like "ah. she bites. familiar territory."

Six doesn't talk a ton and as long as they're fed and somewhat occupied (they're very easy to occupy) they're a very easy kid. Techno appreciates this.

Techno isn't very bothered by Six's diet bc he figures he's in no place to judge and he could always breed villagers/provide as much food as Six needs to satiate their constant hunger.

Six tends to gnaw on their own hands/Techno's furniture when they're stressed or just generally anxious about anything. Techno isn't fond of this, so he found a chew ring for them. They wear out really quickly tho bc sharp teeth, so Technoblade just found the most durable cloth he had and let them go ham.

Six slightly frightens c!Ranboo, but no more than his own gremlin husband and plays well with Micheal so he lets it slide.

Six not giving any shits about sides and having a practically non-existent moral compass + being a Literal Child, makes it hard for people to target her. Plus, she bites, and Technoblade likes her.

Six isn't fond of cold so they tend to hide behind/have Ranboo or Techno carry them. Phil still hasn't been able to make snow boots in their size, so it helps their case.

Mono, on the other hand, variates between c!Tommy and c!Phil, so he's always on the move. Tommy and Ranboo are always around each other bc c!Wilbur, so Six tags along.

Mono likes Phil bc Fluffy Wings and Big Hat, plus Phil is nice to him :]. (Yes those are his only requirements for a friend. He knows it's sad, shut up.)

Mono eats Phil's hair when he isn't paying attention, so Phil got him a chew necklace instead.

Mono likes Tommy bc he has Good Vibes. That's it. Plus, Tommy reminds him of Six kinda, and he likes it.

Both Mono and Tommy hate/are frightened by yelling/sudden loud noises. Tommy tends to leave bc "Mono doesn't like it, you're fuckin scaring him. He won't leave if I don't."

Mono and Tommy both eat dirt together. Tommy talks, Mono listens and nods. It's a very beneficial relationship.

Six n Mono tend to wander a lot and end up just freaking. passing out in the snow, clinging to each other for body heat, and Phil found that So worrying.

He made them cloaks that are Too Big (he couldn't tailor to size Extra Tiny he isn't a miracle worker) and proper winter clothes and all so they wouldn't freeze/get sick (they got sick once at the same time bc they weren't used to the horrible cold and they were nightmares to deal with).

RK just borrows Micheal's clothes.

RK really really likes Foolish bc of his pretty builds and he's shiny, but refuses to leave Tubbo. So Tubbo just visits Foolish more often.

Foolish is really fond of both of them, so it's a win-win situation.

Six n Mono find Alivebur strange. They don't think he's a bad person, but he does bad things then feels bad about it later. They just tend to watch him curiously and be generally creepy af.

The Dsmp members know who the three of them don't like bc Six won't accept food from the person. If Six (best judge of character and notoriously the easiest to please) doesn’t like you, there's no chance the others will either.

Six is loyal to basically anyone that feeds them and doesn't hurt Mono and RK, but that's where Mono and RK come in. They do the "if you hurt my friends we don't like you" thing, and together draw up a list of people the three don't like.

The rest of the server wonders why three new kids appear and start hanging on to the people that cause the most issues. They're really worried.

Mono has the best moral compass/sense of right and wrong, but tends to ignore it in favor of whatever he feels like doing. He commits arson.

Six is rlly fascinated by Kinoko Kingdom and finds it rlly pretty, so they tend to wander around there.

RK likes fluffy n soft things.

Mono loves animals and mud and grass and is a mostly vegetarian.

what’s cough syrup about? it sounds really interesting and i see you post about it a lot :O

hi hi!

cough syrup's a dreamSMP high school AU focused primarily on c!tubbo & c!ranboo's characters! the chapters alternate POVs (even chapters are ranboo's, odd chapters are tubbo's) but there are other side characters with their own background plotlines featured in both chapters (c!niki and c!tommy are my best examples of characters ive tried to give a personal arc despite not being in center frame always)

there are a few plotlines going on through it, the most forward-facing one being the development of c!beeduo's relationship, but also plots more specific to each character. a lot of c!tubbo's chapters focus on his home life and him trying to reconcile his past with his current situation and trying to break the chains of generational trauma. c!ranboo's chapters, because he's a damn disaster and im fucking extra, have like way too many plotpoints, but his main plot threads settle around him figuring out his identity. there are a lot of themes of addiction, mental health, queerness, "blood of the covenant is thicker than water of the womb", etc.

it's currently at about 200k words, updates every two weeks, and has 45 chapters in total (this tuesday i'm posting the 25th). the chapters are pretty ungodly long.

i'd recommend it to people who like longer fics, high school / modern AUs, c!beeduo in a queerplatonic lens, and can stomach some heavier subjects (angst w/ a happy ending). if you prefer shorter fics, exclusively headcanon c!beeduo as platonic or feel uncomfortable with queerplatonic/romantic takes on their characters, or can't handle angst in any capactiy, i wouldn't recommend it tbh bc i do not want anyone following me to read it obligatory and then hate it so just like know that going in

c!Ranboo’s physiology & his relationship with water.

So we all know that Ranboo’s half enderman and half unknown, right? So here are some of my headcanons about how water functions in his body :].

- Endermen are naturally averse to water, as touching water burns their skin. Ranboo is half endermen, meaning water has the same effect on him. Soaking himself in water for an extended period of time would cover him in 3rd degree burns, eventually eroding his soft tissue. Touching water would immediately give him 2nd degree burns, which are notably more painful but less life-threatening than 3rd degree burns. Existing in areas of especially high humidity/misty locations for long time periods would sting his skin, potentially leading to 1st degree burns depending on the environment. However, this reaction is localised mostly to his “outer” skin (i.e., his arms, legs, face, chest, etc.). The skin on the inside of his mouth, tongue, throat and various digestive organs have a higher tolerance to water due to being coated in a mucous layer that’s generally more hydrophilic.

- While human mucous is approximately ~95% water, Ranboo’s is roughly 10-35% water. This makes it appear more phlegm-like, and he has to consume less than half of the water human’s do to prevent getting a dry throat/mouth because of this. His internal organs are coated in this mucous at varying levels of water density to prevent burning while digesting foods that contain water. For example, his stomach acid naturally contains the highest water content (~35%), so the mucous on the walls of his stomach have a water density of around <10%.

- The higher the water content of a food, the “spicier” it feels to him. Chips aren’t spicy, and starchy fruits (bananas, passion fruit) are mild-medium in spiciness. High water content fruits like watermelon, oranges or tomatoes are incredibly spicy to him. He prefers snacking on dehydrated fruits because of this.

- He doesn’t drink water; he absorbs the little water he does need indirectly from the food he eats. Drinking straight water would feel like drinking pure Tabasco sauce to him, and he’d probably feel sick for days as his body regulates the water content.

- Despite his memory problems, he never forgets his aversion to water as its instinctual to him, like breathing or flinching.

- The enchantments he put on his netherite makes his armour completely hydrophobic, preventing any water from directly touching his skin while wearing it. This lets him swim in the ocean and trudge through snow easily.

- Endermen do not have sweat glands like humans do, as they can naturally withstand and prefer colder climates (they originate from The End, a place with no natural sunlight). Meaning they don’t have to cool down their bodies as often, as their environments are usually cold. Ranboo also doesn’t have sweat glands, instead he cools his body down through a type of vasodilation (expanding the blood vessels closer to the skin in order to exchange heat with his environment).

- Cooling his body down in hot climates for long periods of time is energy sapping. He stores his armour in a sort of “freezer” overnight before his goes to warmer locations, so he doesn’t get as tired as quickly.

- The tundra is an ideal biome for him since its both cold and dry. Jungles are his least favourite biome due to their stifling heat, humidity and rainfall. He also enjoys going on late night walks in the desert, because of its stark temperature drops at night and clear skies.

- Endermen express their emotions differently to humans, they tend to shake and screech when upset rather than cry, as they are physically unable to do so. Endermen don’t have tear ducts, but unfortunately for Ranboo- he does. His eyes are covered with a much thinner layer of mucous compared to his organs, so when tears start to form it stings and temporarily clouds his vision. However, due to the thin mucous layer covering his waterline and sclera, he doesn’t take any long-term damage as long as the tears don’t touch his skin.

- Crying takes a great physical toll on Ranboo, producing tears takes up a lot of the water he has in his body. This gives him a headache and generally makes him feel dehydrated. The greatest toll, however, occurs if his tears touch the skin on his face/body. Tears touching his face or body leave 2nd degree burns and permanent scars. Because of this, he suppresses his need to cry at almost any cost.

BONUS HCS:

+ Ranboo found out that his tears burned him when he was a kid. He was upset and looked down, so instead of sliding down his face his tears landed on his hand. He still has a faded scar on the back of his left hand as a reminder not to cry.

+ Whenever he can’t suppress his need to cry, he tilts his head down and weeps, letting the tears hit the floor below him.

Well, those were all my headcanons, if you have anything to add don’t be afraid to tack it on! Also, I think the idea of Ranboo reaching an emotional breaking point and letting his tears burn down his cheek would make some excellent Angst Material (TM) (e.g. Michael being killed, Tubbo losing his last life, being told about the damage he caused while Enderwalking, etc.) :]
