Buck’s Coma Dream in Retrospect
It fell flat and it had conflicting messages.
I think the two big takeaways we were supposed to get and see were 1) Buck realizing that he’s enough just as he is. 2) Buck understanding/realizing that in the real world he has a family that loves him and accepts him as is, that’s real and not a fantasy (ie his parents loving him anyways and Daniel being alive), and that’s the 118.
Okay, let’s focus first on Buck realizing he’s enough. Well, he may have understood this message in his dream, but did we see this in any capacity in the real world? I’d have to say no, not really. For a few episodes Buck was struggling with the fact that he died, he was unsure how to feel about dying but still being alive, he didn’t know how to feel or act, etc. And then this very important story was effectively dropped, especially once the romance with Natalia was brought in (to only be a love interest, lbr).
Where, after the coma dream in episode 6x11, did we see Buck truly feel like he was enough? At most we have some “well I guess he felt confident in ____” moments. I’d say those are: - Buck going through the five stages of grief in 3 seconds before handing over the baby he helped create. - Buck taking on “leadership” in the finale. I mean yeah, but he was mostly on his own to do that. He kinda had to lead Ravi, but that was it. I’m stating this with a bit of an unsatisfied air because we really hadn't seen the proper build up this season to Buck even taking on a leadership position. So.
Beyond those two pieces, where exactly have we been shown that Buck has learned and felt that he’s enough? I’m really struggling here. (too bad his story about learning to be at ease with himself was forgotten). What also doesn’t help, and this happened in season 5, is we get so little insight into Buck’s mind and how he’s really feeling. Buck in season 4 admitted to hiding his true feelings, but... it still feels like this is the case even now. As if both Buck and the show are often hiding how he really feels about things. So we have to guess a lot.
This is also where dream!Bobby saying “if you only care how people see you, you haven’t learned a damn thing” comes into play in this. You know where this is going. The only thing we got was Buck saying to Eddie in 6x15 or 6x16 that Natalia, after one conversation that predominantly took place off screen, that “she sees him.” Ah. So Buck has learned nothing, got it. In particular, Buck has learned nothing when it comes to his romantic life. After six seasons. My good dudes (gn).....
(we honestly got Natalia not seeing Buck even before Kameron randomly showed up at Buck’s place; we were shown Natalia being overwhelmed and low-key judgmental of Buck’s full life before and after Kameron came in. and she ran away from it all. sound familiar? y’all also please note she came back after Buck was in danger. for all we know, she saw what went down on the news and decided to come back. sound familiar??? we saw Natalia not understanding why Buck helped Kameron and Connor, she had to be told the answer. the only thing we’ve concretely been shown is Natalia finding Buck’s death, a piece of him, “so cool.”)
*deep sigh* Okay, now for point two.
There’s two aspects to how the fantasy vs reality of it all was clumsily handled. (this was inspired from a chat I had with @lovecolibri )
In the coma world, Buck’s parents genuinely seemed to be loving and supportive towards Buck, something Buck never got in the real world. In the scenes of the real world, we were shown the 118 family and Maddie being that: a family that loves Buck and are hella concerned about him. Of course they are, because we’ve spent several seasons making this a fact, a fact that they all love Buck and they love him as he is, unconditionally.
A big HOWEVER. However, also in the real world, we had the Buckley parents present and seemingly concerned about Buck. Sure, this is in part nothing new about them; the Buckley parents only showing concern when Buck is physically hurt. BUT we also have to factor in that in episode 6x10 we were shown the Buckley parents “trying” to, at the very least, be civil with their kids, honestly, and this is my interpretation here, in great part only so they could have a relationship with Jee-Yun (despite them… I don’t think showing that much interest in Jee-Yun beforehand. not that I remember atm).
The conflicting message here is that in the coma world Buck has parents that love him unconditionally, but he knows this isn’t true in the real world. We saw him, as I interpreted it, Buck giving one last hug to coma!Buckley parents in a sort of goodbye to this fantasy, because again Buck knew that he’d never have the relationship he wants or truly deserves in the real world. But Then, when Buck wakes up he has his parents there and “trying”….. But. But Buck had also had the understanding in his dream that the 118 are his family and he wants to return to them, for himself.
I hope y’all are following because this is a bit confusing isn’t it; my explanation and what the show was even trying to say. What we got was coma!Buck understanding that his parents have never and will never “love him anyway.” He has the 118 that do. But then in the real world we have the 118 there for Buck, but ALSO the Buckley parents who still don’t love him anyway, but are “trying,” so… Good enough?
Idk idk, what would have been more impactful was to have Buck return to a reality where he has his 118 found family who can be contrasted, clearly, to his parents that both a) still don’t love him unconditionally (which is true in any case, but...), and 2) not have the Buckley parents there for reconciliation purposes. The timing of the reconciliation really muddles the messaging, if you follow me.
I’ve seen a lot of people view the show as redeeming the Buckley parents (and Mr. Han), when the show was going for reconciliation.
The only parents that have actually gotten redemption stories are Ramon Diaz and Toni Wilson. Those stories worked because both parents acknowledged their wrong doings, and said and showed that they are willing to try to mend things with their kids. Which both have been actively doing.
Neither the Buckley parents nor Mr. Han has been shown to acknowledge their wrong doings to their kids. Instead we were given a silent message of “let’s start from scratch and… just try to get along.” This is why their stories are meant to be reconciliation and not redemption, but they were clearly poorly executed.
For Buck in the real world we just… saw him going with the flow of his parents being there. Oh his mom wants to buy Buck a couch? Buck: “...Sure, I guess. Go ahead.”
Circling back to the 118 family. While we did get some moments and scenes in 6x11 and 6x12 of the 118 being there for Buck… idk, that was kind of it. The rest of the season after that was kinda scattered on - really showing the bond amongst the 118. At least to me. Like, why weren’t there more scenes of Buck and Bobby, especially after May said out loud that Bobby is Buck’s dad? I’m blanking, but did Buck ever say “congratulations on the engagement” to Chimney or Maddie, his sister? We didn’t get any further discussions amongst the 118 of Buck’s death, not really, beyond 6x12 having some check in with Buck, and 6x13 having everyone joke about Buck’s math skills. (i do love the Buck/Eddie of it all, don’t get me wrong. but in hindsight it’s hilariously bizarre that in retrospect we and Buck are being told that Eddie seemingly regularly plays poker with other firefighters. haha ok.)
Hell, why was there never a conversation between Buck and Chimney? Chimney died twice in season 5 (but that was quickly forgotten), and almost died in both seasons 1 and 2. Chimney would absolutely be a perfect person for Buck to talk to about death.
I’m sure I could give more examples, but overall I felt season 6 was weird in how they handled the dynamics on the 118 as a whole. To me, a little too often they were just kept apart because for a show that is supposedly big on found family, it wasn’t that consistent or as present as it should be in season 6. (yes there were definitely good and great 118 moments in season 6, but there could have and i think should have been more for this found family.)
Like holy shit, the finale? We got a baffling time jump from the rescue, so we didn’t get anything like Buck checking in on Bobby, his dad. We didn’t get Buck checking in on Eddie, his best friend and partner. We didn’t get anyone checking in on Chimney, etc etc etc. Everyone was off in their little pairings, and two of the pairings of course were Buck and Eddie with their female love interests. I phrase it like that because that’s exactly what the writers, at present, have given us and nothing more; female love interests. So satisfying.
...
TL;DR If Buck learned and understood that he’s enough in the real world and not just in his coma dream, call me dumb but it wasn’t clear at all. Season 6 overall, while having some good moments with the 118, was honestly lacking in the found family aspect that used to be so important and central to this show.

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So this has to be the longest reblog tags I have ever gotten yet.
Another Sakura apologist. Sigh...
Okay, here goes.
Tags - Op seems to be anti Sakura and I absolutely disagree with that.
Me - Lulz. Don't care. ❤️. It doesn't matter what you agree or disagree with. I interpret Sakura as she was supposed to be seen. By the author. Look for it Here. Here. Here. Here. Here. Here. Here. Here. Here. Here. And there's much more. You can go through my blog.
And more is coming, believe it! :)
Just because You don't see things doesn't mean they aren't there. Heh.
Tag - Instead of tormenting the author, write something on the basis of your own hc. Policing etc.
Me - This Argument is just lulz. 😹
Argument - If you are so unhappy with the corrupt and cruel leadership of your country, why don't you become the president instead? Who are you to criticize?
Lmao. No. ❤️. This is a fandom and this is necessarily a platform about communication and sharing ideas. A fandom is a collection of fans. I reserve my right to criticize or discuss anything pertaining to it. There can be no fanfic without FANS. Who read them and actually make them a FANfic. And they have an inherent right to judge them. I am not tormenting anyone, I didn't tag them, didn't call them names. I simply wrote an objective analysis without bad mouthing anyone. Because that's how it's done.❤️ Policing, lol. Oh yeah, throw catchphrases and silly token words around, that will prove your point. Lol. I am not forcing anyone to follow me, in fact what I am doing, is giving them a well reasoned and well researched perspective. Take advantage of it, don't cry about it. Learn and absorb. It's called growth. I am sure of my stuff because I have the knowledge to back it up, I don't throw useless words around. Please be naive somewhere else. Lol. I write an analysis blog and I do my research. If you write a fic that you claim as 'in character', I have a right to judge and I will talk about it with other fans, and I will do it with Authority. No one can take that away from ME. Also, not my HC. These are FACTS. I read the manga as the author wants me to, I make a strict point of it. When I don't understand something, I invest time and effort to find out about it, like any other credible blogger does. When I write hc, I mention it accordingly. Take it however you want. I honestly don't care. ❤️ Heh.
Tags - Interpretations might differ. Blah blah.
Me - Hahahahha. SuBjeCtiVe inTerpREtaTIon.
Nope. You are wrong. ❤️ Here. Here. Here. Here. Here. Here. And much more, just go through my blog etc etc. I don't have the energy to explain it here.
Tags - I don't think Kishi is intentional about making Naruto gay........but if makes perfect sense.
Me - Seriously, people don't see the contradictions in their own arguments. Did you read the tagline of my blog? No? Read it. Unintentional, lolol. Shows how much you are mistaken. Regardless, you are so very wrong. ❤️ Here. Here. Here. Here. Here. Here. Here. And there will be more, I promise.
Tags - Kishi is homophobic and heteronormative blah blah.
Me - Sigh..... I am so sick of this absolutely stupid ass argument. Here. Here. There is much more, just go through.... Etc.
Finally. Yeah, people are liable to judge me here because I also reserve my right to judge. But when you are given valid arguments, evidence and objective analysis, listen. Pay attention. At least do a cursory checkup. See whether it makes sense or not. I do and anyone who makes sense in this crazy fandom also does. Do your part before giving criticism. Otherwise your words will hold no value and it will show. No one, absolutely no one judges me more harshly than I judge myself. It's a thing with me. I make communication and media my profession. Literally. I sound the way I sound because I am extremely anal about things, I speak from experience and reason fortification is my jam. Step by step. I have been told so many times that I write long ass posts, and it's kind of like a private joke but there's a reason for that. I tend to over explain because I don't want there to be any miscommunication, I want my intent to come out properly. I can understand that random people wouldn't know that about me. But it doesn't matter. Pay attention to what is said and do your fact check up. Doubt everything. And come to your conclusions after seeing it, reasoning it out for yourself.
I may be intense. And I am. About this media. About my boys. Which is why I inject so much of my time and effort into it. I am also flexible when I am given a reasonable argument, I can change my opinion if you talk sense to me. On my level. I work on my stuff and I won't demean it for anything less. But I am glad there are people in this fandom that are also like me. And I feel encouraged. It's upon you if you want to take it or leave it. No skin off my nose. This media inspires motivation and effort and deep thought and as long as it exists, I will keep finding kindered souls in here, like I have till now. Couple of them are good friends. I don't need or want approval but it certainly is nice to connect with people regardless. For what I do regarding this media, so do others and I appreciate them for that, even if you aren't one of them. And I am thankful for that. 🙂
Thank you for your other kind words towards me. The contradiction in your tags is not lost on me. Your sweet passive aggression. But well, that's fine. I have been in this fandom for over a year now and I have had worse. All sorts of hypocrisy and ignorance. You aren't saying anything to me that I haven't already heard. Heh. :)

🎃 Roster & Rules; 🎃
I write for:
Michael Myers (1978, 2007, 2018+)
Jason Voorhees
Leatherface (Bubba Sawyer, Thomas Hewitt) + Bubba’s brothers
Freddy Krueger (except 2010)
Most Dead by Daylight Killers (except the Demogorgon, Nemesis, Pyramid Head, the Dredge, Sadako, and Wesker)
All Dead by Daylight Survivors (with the exception of the Resident Evil chapter survivors - this, along with Wesker, will change eventually once I know enough about them)
Most MANHUNT 1 & 2 characters (except Piggsy because I don’t fuck with that. also no Skinz.)
Billy (Black Christmas 1974, as well as the 2006 remake)
Corey Cunningham (Halloween Ends)
Please check my #masterlist before making a request, just to see if it’s been done already!
This blog is free from any explicit NSFW stuff. While there may be an occasional joke, or a hint at something, I will not post any NSFW headcanons or scenarios, nor will I reblog any (or artwork for that matter) - so if NSFW isn't your jam, this is a safe place.
➥ What I will write:
Headcanons, drabbles, scenarios, etc. Though note it’s typically easier and quicker to pound out a list of headcanons, so if you specify that you’d like a drabble/scenario, it may take a little more time.
Most angst. Things involving mental illnesses, self harm, abuse, cheating, etc, are alright for now, but will be tagged accordingly. I actually really love writing angst; the heavier, the better, so don't hesitate to send any ideas my way!
Three characters at a time for headcanons. Characters that fall into “groups” (the Legion, Bubba’s brothers, etc) are considered one character, so feel free to request them + two others.
Two characters at a time for scenarios/drabbles.
Note: While I do write match-ups, they're only an occasional thing. I'll post an announcement if they're open but please know that when requests are open, match-ups are not, and vice versa.
➥ What I won’t write:
NSFW in any shape or form. I make innuendos, hints, and jokes every now and then, but I do not write NSFW.
Rape or suicide/attempts. Not even recovery from it.
Nothing political. This includes religion-themed requests (i.e "Michael Myers with a Catholic s/o?") - but holiday requests are fine.
Anything that seems too OOC. I don’t mind crack requests or things for fun, but stuff like… “Which Disney couple would Michael and his partner go as for Halloween” is just a tad too OOC and I like to try to keep my headcanons at least a little accurate.
If you want to request something but are unsure if it’s something I’d write, please feel free to send a message about it and I will let you know asap.
The more detailed/in depth version can be found here
I'm not a strictly slasher blog; I'm open to potentially writing for a character as long as they fit the horror theme/are from the horror genre. Keyword being potentially: I can't guarantee I'll add every character suggested. Please don't take it personally if I say no - I just only want to write for characters I have a muse for since a huge part of why I even write in general is because I enjoy it, so if I end up writing for something that I don't feel inspired by, I'll have a hard time enjoying it which will lead to burnout.
Other than that, if my inbox is open, feel free to send in a request!

Talking colors: PaperJam(PJ). Omni. Killer. Nightmare. Dream. Cross. Ink. Error. Stain. Hope. Fade.
Call It A Game Night.
They decided to have a game night together.  It had been forever since they’d last done so, so they figured it’d be a good idea.  Ink was helping Error set up the first board game, Life.  Dream and Nightmare were working on some food while Cross was looking for some other games stored in the attic.  They were in Nightmare and Killer’s mansion.  Stain came in with some nerf guns, Hope in tow with Fade, and an armful of bottles of alcohol.  Fade had their own armful, mainly because they owned the most alcohol and would be able to help everyone find something they liked.  They set everything on the kitchen counter and Fade made sure they had all the alcohol they’d brought.
“How much did you need?”
“It’s fine, I have a lot.  Besides, I know everyone’s tastes vary.  Do you want help with that food?”
Nightmare nodded, moving to let Fade join in helping them cook.
“Sometimes, I’m surprised that you became a rock star instead of a chef.”
“Well, do you blame me?  I picked up my first electric guitar at 12, I think I’d like to learn how to play it.”
“Whatever.  How are the spouses doing?”
“They’re doing good.  Nel’s out helping shop for baby stuff while I’m here.  I hope she doesn’t cook.”
“Why would you hope your wife doesn’t cook?”
“Have you seen how badly she burns her food?”
Nightmare just chuckled as he plated what he was working on and brought it out to the living room.  He set it on the big buffet table they’d set up for the game night.  As soon as Ink saw the food, he moved to take a bite.  Despite their past, he couldn’t help still being on good terms with Nightmare and would definitely admit to how good he thought Nightmare’s cooking was.
“Oh my god, Night, this is so good.”
Nightmare passed it off with a wave of his hand, “Just wait until Fade brings their food out.  They’re a better cook than I am.”
“Still.  This is really, really good.”
“Ya, ya, I know.”
Dream came out with his food next.  He’d spent all day roasting a ham since he knew how hungry everyone got while drunk.  Cross came down after with a few more games and, after setting them next to the now set out Life, moved to hug Dream.  Dream giggled a bit and hugged him back.
“Hey, Love.”
“Hi.  Having fun?”
“Oh, plenty.  Wanna try the ham?”
“Sure.”
Dream picked up a fork, taking a piece of ham and feeding it to Cross, who immediately hummed in appreciation, “That’s really good.”
“You think all my cooking is good.”
“Ya, but this is really good too.”
He giggled a bit before Cross led him over to the game table.  Fade was coming out with their food.  Stain and Hope had already sat down.
“Alright, who wants something to drink while we wait for arntul Omni and PJ?”
Multiple hands went up and Fade asked them what they thought they wanted before grabbing them.  They grabbed wine and whiskey glasses and poured things accordingly.  Killer quickly came with some cases of beer and set them down next to the game table.
“Sorry it took so long, a Karen was arguing with the shopkeep.”
“It’s alright.  Sit, Fade’s getting us some alcohol.”
Killer nodded and sat next to Nightmare, opening himself a can of beer as Fade started bringing drinks out.  Once everyone had their drinks, they took a quick portal to their house and came back with an alcohol-smoked turkey, just as PJ and Omni arrived.
“Oh, just in time.  We were just about to start,” Killer was shuffling the different decks of cards. “Want anything to drink?”
Omni shook their head, though looked at PJ.
“A beer for now, please.”
Killer nodded and got PJ a beer from the case.  They cracked it open as they sat and Omni moved to get a large plate of food for them both.  Fade sat down next to their adoptive dad, Stain.
“Ok, so we got the expansion pack so we could all play.  Everyone chooses a color.”
They gradually chose their own colors and started the game.
~~~
Everyone but Ink and Omni were at least somewhat inebriated by the time they finished playing Life.  Ink not being inebriated was a bit strange, seeing as he’d had at least fifteen beers and three glasses of whiskey.  Omni hadn’t drunk anything but they did munch.  PJ was leaning against them, waiting for the next game.  Stain, who'd already finished his last turn, was working on the next activity.  Dream seemed the drunkest, but he hadn't passed out yet, so it was probably fine.  After a moment, Stain came back with nerf pistols.
"There's enough for everyone to have one.  Who wants to play nerf hide and seek tag?"
Everyone was immediately in agreement.
"Alright, so someone is the seeker and carries a nerf pistol.  Every time a seeker finds someone, they need to be shot by the seeker or they aren't tagged.  If they are tagged, they then become a seeker too.  Anywhere is free game for hiders.  Who wants to seek first?"
Nightmare raised his hand.
"Alright," Stain handed him a nerf pistol and set the rest on the table. "If you become a seeker, pick one up.  Pops, count to 60."
Nightmare nodded and closed his eyes.  Shuffling could be heard.  Cross currently had his husband on his back, carrying him to a closet on the highest floor.  All the kids Nightmare had were being watched by Red and Blue at Ink's mansion since it had a surplus of rooms.  They had plenty of rooms.  He took Dream into the farthest room from the staircase, carefully setting him down in the walk-in closet.
"Alright, Dreamy.  You've gotta stay quiet or they'll find you."
"Is that bad…?"
"No, but you'll lose the game."
He nodded with a small giggle and Cross closed the door, going to find his own place to hide.
~~~
Knowing his husband really well, Nightmare was able to find Killer first.  He was hiding in the library, small enough to fit in the shadows of one of the towering shelves.  Nightmare just examined the shelves, debating on which one Killer was resting on, before letting off a bullet at random.  He heard a small, boney thunk and a whisper of an ow.
"Got you."
"Fine, you got me."
Killer started to climb down.  Nightmare moved a tentacle to help him.  He couldn't have his husband getting hurt.  Not since he was the only doctor that could fix him immediately.
"Alright, go grab a pistol."
Killer nodded and ran off.
~~~
Stain took a deep breath as he finally situated himself with Hope.  They were hiding in the tub in one of the bathrooms and it was obvious Stain may have to carry Hope once they were found.  Hope, having lower magic, was much more affected by alcohol, so even just a can was pretty much half a bottle of whiskey to him.
When Killer inevitably pulled the curtain back to reveal the two, he immediately became a put worried, seeing as Hope was heavily passed out against Stain.
“We should be alright… we can get him on the couch and we can get him water when he wakes…”
Killer nodded, simply shooting Stain and running off to continue what he was doing.
~~~
He quietly padded down the hall, pistol in his hand.  Out of all the places he would know Fade would hide, he could not, for the life of himself, find his adopted child.  Stain guessed he would have to look in different places.  His first place of search?  The kitchen.  Fade always loved the kitchen and, with how small they were, he wouldn’t doubt they’d shoved themselves in the pantry.  He took a quick peek… only to find out he was wrong.  They weren’t hiding in the pantry.  So then where were they?
They couldn’t fit in any cupboards.  But Stain’s partially inebriated mind definitely thought so, and he started searching the cupboard like he was raiding the kitchen.  Fade was in the cupboards!  Specifically, the cupboards under the sink.  Fade had moved it all to a separate cupboard and squeezed themselves in.  Stain quickly shot them and moved to help them out.
“How did you fit in there?”
“I’ve always been small.”
"Still.  Wow."
They just nodded and went to get a nerf pistol.
~~~
In the meantime, Killer had found PJ and Omni.  It hadn't been hard, since Omni had agreed to make out in the room they were hiding in while waiting.  Now, they were teamed and hunting for others.  Their first go-to would've been Ink since he was usually easy to find depending on the person.  But even then, years of Ink having learned how to hide made him even more dangerous for the seeker.  They paused their search for him when they heard a yell and realized that it probably wasn't a good idea for Ink to be hiding from Nightmare.  They quickly followed the yell.
Nightmare had Ink restrained, mostly because Ink had gone defensive and currently had his hatchet in his hand.  He was struggling to be let go and PJ set their pistol down to comfort their dad.
"Dad, calm down.  It's ok.  It's just hide-and-seek.  No one's gonna hurt you."
"H-How do you kn-know…?"
"Has Nightmare actually hurt you…?"
That's right.  It was Nightmare.  Not Dark.  He hadn't been hurt.  It was just a game.  Ink took in a breath and Nightmare carefully set him down.
"Sorry…"
"It's ok… I'm just… not gonna play for now…"
Nightmare nodded and PJ picked their pistol up again, going with Omni and Nightmare to find the last ones hiding.
~~~
Error now knew why Ink always felt so safe hiding under the bed whenever he got scared.  It was small and cozy and it would be hard to get him out without lifting the bed or him getting out himself.  Despite that, he held his breath when he heard a couple of sets of footsteps and a door open.  Someone was searching the room for him.  It was Stain and Fade.  There was the sound of something being set on the desk in the room before the bed creaked, being lifted up.
"Good morning," a nerf bullet hit him smack-dab in the forehead and he giggled a bit, moving to carefully push himself out.
"Why hello there."
"Did you sleep well?"
Error stood, "Very."
"Dad's downstairs on the couch next to Hope.  Otherwise, we found Cross and we're gonna gang up on Dream."
"I think I'll go to Inky.  What happened?"
"Got a bit scared by Pops, but he's ok."
Error nodded and went to find Ink.
~~~
Nightmare put a finger to his lips as Cross led the way.  They were all locked and loaded.  Once they got to the room, Cross went over to the walk-in closet door.  He put his hand on the handle and carefully ripped it open.  They were all quickly met with Dream's shrieking laughter as they fired everything at him.  Once they were all out of bullets, Cross moved to check on him while the others picked up the bullets.  He pulled Dream gently against his chest and Dream started to drift to sleep.  He hadn't had alcohol in forever, so it wasn't surprising.
He picked up his husband and took him downstairs to rest.  Error and Ink had set up Monopoly while waiting.  Cross sat at the table, holding Dream in his lap.  After a minute, everyone else took their spots to play.  Killer made sure Hope had something to drink upon waking.  Dream had easily fallen asleep against Cross.  Cross just smiled as they played.
~
Dream was passed out for about an hour before he started to wake up a bit.  The game was still going and he seemed confused since Killer was now yelling at PJ for making him go bankrupt.  Ink laughed a bit from next to Error.
“Monopoly, the game that tears families apart.”
Dream giggled a bit and Cross looked down at him.
“Well, hello there, Dreamy.  Sleep good?”
Dream nodded and moved to get up.  He was kinda hungry.  Cross let him stand, watching him go over to the food table and get himself some turkey.  He seemed content as he sat down again, this time next to Cross, and ate.  Once he was done, he went to put his dishes in the sink and seemed to just completely disappear.  Cross was a bit concerned but kept playing.
~
15 minutes after Dream disappeared, he came back, holding one of the nerf pistols.  He pointed it at Nightmare, the banker.
“Gimme the money.”
Ink was starting to laugh.  Nightmare didn’t respond at first, earning him a nerf bullet to the nose.
“I said gimme.”
Once Nightmare seemed to process what Dream meant by money, Nightmare took a one-dollar monopoly bill and gave it to Dream.  Dream pretty much threw the pistol down.
“Crossy, we’re rich now!”
Ink burst out laughing and Cross stood, hugging Dream.
“That’s great, Dreamy.  Now, why don’t we get you some water and go home?”
“Ok!”
I honestly don’t know why I saved a bunch of 8-bit pop songs. It was a weird phase.
Doctor Who Theme
i’m obviously a Whovian.
Tidal Wave by Owl City
My depression jam! I love this song so much. Owl City has some awesome turns of phrase in his songs. Ends with some Christian hope too. Came to me at just the right time in my life.
Tenten’s Theme from Naruto
Tenten is a frickin’ boss and her theme is so pretty and strong like her.
Boulevard of Broken Dreams by Vitamin String Quartet
Even though I was/am kinda emo, instrumental is the way to go because 1. I’m a figure skater and 2. No swears
My House by Flo Rida
Ummmm...it’s catchy...that’s all that’s going for it.
Live Like a Warrior by Matisyahu
So this guy is awesome. He’s a Jewish rapper and this song is fantastic.
Made for This by Carrollton
Music to pump me up during workouts. Good stuff.
What’ll I Do? by Judy Garland
Ending as we began. Very appropriate for quarantine loneliness. *sigh* and that’s it.
Tagging whoever reads this and hasn’t done one yet.
it’s September and the start of the school is dawning upon you. you feel great. this is gonna be the year. no more all-nighters, no more finishing your work 5 minutes before the class it’s due. you have a killer organization system and you will use it every. single. day.
flash forward to November: you’re starting your semester project two days before it’s due, you haven’t opened your planner for three weeks,  and a good night rest seems like a distant memory. if this sounds anything like you, you need to get your shit together.
hah i’m kind of the laziest piece of shit i know but always half way through the year i decide that i need to be a #betterme so i’ve become an expert at changing my ways overnight. here is my semi-comprehensive and v messy guide
fake it till you make it
biggest. tip. let yourself think that you’re being extremely productive and that you know what you’re doing until it is your reality. here’s how:
make a to-do list of all the things you need to accomplish for the day. on that list, also include the things you already did. even if all it is is brush teeth and get dressed, write that shit down. a partly finished to-do list looks A LOT better than a completely uncompleted one.
also, divide up your huge daunting tasks into smaller steps, each individual task will look a lot more approachable and that will motivate you to get working
write down your morning routine and stick to it. the stuff you do everyday (or should be doing everyday) will now feel as if you’re being productive the second you wake up which will get you in that grind.
some morning routine inspiration x x x
deep clean
ok, you’ve decided that you can no longer live on the brink of insanity. the first step is to clean. PUT ON SOME BOPS AND GET IT DONE
maybe invite a friend? my closet habitually turns into a black hole and i end up just falling asleep on the floor every time i try cleaning it by myself because i hate cleaning(a lot of people like it, and if you do, i envy u). SO solution: invite a friend over that will FORCE U help u out!
clean your study space. who wants to work on a cluttered desk? no one.
throw out all the papers you don’t need and if you think you need them but you’re not really sure(like old notes that your younger sibling might want), then move them to a folder and put it in storage
clean your closet. no one talks about the closet, but you gotta organize it because how are you supposed to be in that productive jam when you go to get dressed and it takes you 10 minutes to find a clean t-shirt? prevent the prospect of a unmotivated funk!
next: clean your entire room. the entire room.
ALSO why not deep clean your body?
face and hair masks always make me feel bougie&zen
for hair masks i use coconut oil
an hour before you shower, melt some coconut oil and run it through your hair, then braid it and leave it in until you wash it out in the shower
here are some diy face masks x  x  x
healthy choices!!
eating good food is so beneficial for your body and mind. i’m not telling you to stop eating your favorite meal, but if you’re stuck with only a bag of chips for lunch because you’re too lazy to pack food (tbt to freshman yr), then that’s not okay.
my masterpost for healthy eating during the school year
my masterpost for study snacks
tea can work wonders my friend. here’s an infographic for ten teas and their benefits
DRINK WATER. get a water bottle that you will use and keep on filling it up!! water makes you feel and look better (hello glowing skin).
you need sleep. everyone know the amount of sleep they need to be able to get through the day effectively, so strive to get that amount.
when you start getting back on track, it’ll seem like you have so much work to do that you won’t be able to go to sleep at a reasonable hour, but if you plan accordingly and really utilize your time, then you should be able to do it
plus once it gets to an hour where you can barely keep your eyes open, the work that takes you 3 hours will take you 30 min in the morning
the super classified secret to how some magical people wake up refreshed instead of groggy is waking up at the end of sleep cycle, instead of the middle of one. i use sleepyti.me to tell me when to go to sleep according to the time i want to wake up
not only should you strive for a healthier body, but why not a healthier mind?
meditation is great. (two great meditation apps x  x)
here’s a nice self-care masterpost by @ashleigh-studies
manage yo time
USE SOME SORT OF PLANNER. sometimes in the studyblr community it seems like everyone has a bullet journal, but that’s not necessarily the case.
i loved using a bullet journal, but during the school year, i would get extremely lazy and the prospect of me having to spend ten minutes on the simple spread i did sounded like death. if this sounds anything like u, there are other methods of planning.
online apps or websites. (masterpost by @mujistudies)
a pre-made planner (the one i use).
OR if you love the idea of being able to completely customize your organization system. here’s where to start with a bujo:
official guide to starting a bullet journal
a great bullet journal masterpost by @studyign
my bullet journal tag.
FOREST SAVED MY LIFE. i used to regularly be sucked into the black hole that is the instagram explore page in the middle of doing an assignment and lose hours of good productive time!!!
this app has you plant a tree, and if you go on your phone your tree dies and that’s sad so u wont go on ur phone
i recommend creating a study schedule. this is a great guide w a printable by @eintsein
i recently started using getplan.co that allows you to drag your tasks to make a study schedule, so if you prefer something digital, i highly recommend this website.
alright, that’s it! i believe in all of u and i hope this was somewhat helpful :)))
Sweet Sexy Savage: Chapter 1
Tumblr media
Author Note: Whoop here it is! I’m on a roll now. This chapter is very long and I am sorry [not really] There’s a lot of details in here so enjoy!
Tag list: @designrwriterchic @hoodgirl163 [just in case cause I like the direction I’m going with this and I need my girls by me!]
Prologue
“Alright you guys. I’m going to need every superstar to come down here, dressed in their WrestleMania gear, makeup on, hair done and smiles lit. It’s time to promote the biggest event of the year.” WrestleMania is like the Super Bowl in the WWE. Jam packed, hyped and full of super fans from what I’ve seen watching at home in the past years. My name is Malaysia Ryker  and my job consists of is multiple hats. By multiple hats I mean; I am one of the photographers, and on the WWE Glam Squad, and a mother on top of it all, twins no less. Needless to say it’s a heavy load, but I don’t regret any of it.
“I need both women’s divisions in their mania gear. I’ll have James hold the shoot for a bit so I can work on the girls.” I instructed my assistant for the day, Jennie, as I went around to the side to get each girl ready and checked on.
There’s never a dull moment behind the scenes. Would you believe me if I said this was my first lead in a big PPV? And it happens to be for the biggest stage of them all in the wrestling world. Obviously I had to go through the motions of what to expect on the job, and learning who everyone was for my first few months, but my hard work paid off quicker than I expected.
Production is what I majored in at school, along with a minor in cosmetology, When I had the twins, I had to give up my hobby of photography. So this job was a no brainier. Which is why, I was glad I got the opportunity.
Touching up on Naomi and Sasha’s make up, they decided to mess with me like always. They were the first friends I made on the job so they are my girls, what else should I expect?
“So Maya, any luck in the love department? We heard you and some guy from creative, named Jason, went out last week. How’d that go?” Sasha asked while checking herself out in the reflection, after I did her hair.
“He was a nice guy but, he was too much into his looks and asked me what size bra I wore. So no.” I let out a sour chuckle and looked at Naomi’s expression, priceless as always.
“So you mean to tell me, that fine specimen of a man was not your cup of tea? Mr. Tall dark and handsome?” Here we go with Naomi and her theatrics. Somehow she always managed to make me laugh no matter the situation.
“Listen to yourself, almighty Glow Queen. You are married, don’t let Jon hear you or you’ll get me in trouble.” Finishing up her makeup, with a sweet chuckle escaping my full red lips, letting her go on and head to the set.
Going back to what I said earlier, yes I am a mother. I have the most wonderful set of twins: Austin and Dakota. I had them after I graduated from Georgia Tech. I had all my friends and family there for support. Especially Joe, he was there too. At least in the beginning. Even if it meant my career was put on hold, I started a new challenge that I was willing to accept. A few months back, Stephanie McMahon herself asked me if I would come work for the company and be a part of the team.
No way could I say no. Someone in the company knew of my work and just thought it would be a good idea. We all know who threw the wood into the fire, for me to get this job. Since the twins are of age, I decided to homeschool them and take them on the road with me. They are fast learners so why not? As for their father? He doesn’t want anything to do with them. He left once I told him I was expecting right after graduation. Jonathan and I have had our ups and downs in the past, but the bad outweighed the good, in every sense. College sweethearts, turned bitter enemies. Hell, Joe was the one who introduced us in the first place after I introduced him to galina.
Jonathan and I followed each other around almost all of college and then it all just fell apart. I wanted a marriage and kids, he wanted to sleep around. When I found out he was cheating, it was at the last homecoming game of our college careers.
I saw him with a blonde on the football field and everything went black after that. I was in a blind rage when I poured the Gatorade cooler on them both. Needless to say, it was the best senior experience I’ve ever had. Nevertheless, I tried to make it work until I wound up pregnant. Jonathan has been a ghost since the day I told him. I’ve been trying since then to get him to be in their lives but he refuses. The twins are now nine and they understand this is our life now, my job and my past. Nothing gets by them.
 “Auntie Trinity, mom doesn’t have time to date when she’s busy with us. I mean we are her pride and joys, look at us.” Dakota, my spunky little girl, put on the most innocent looking smile ever with her brother Austin.
 “Yeah, no guy or girl, is good enough for our mother. She has standards.” Austin always had a smart mouth on him. The sentence alone made me gasp, and rethink my dating life.
Was I really that bad with my dating prospects? Going back to my work so I can move on to the guys next, Sasha and Naomi both started laughing at the twins statements. Why is my dating life such a funny topic for these people?
"Alright, alright. You girls are done for the day. I’ll catch up with you all for dinner later, while the twins are with my mom.“ Mama Natalie, my dear sweet mother, was happy to retire after my dad passed. She did her time in the work force and needed to spend time with her grandkids anyway.
The girls went their separate ways with the others and I got ready for the boys. I really wanted to do Finn’s demon paint today, but he was out still in recovery. Judging by his Instagram pictures with the wife Brenna, he was doing just fine.
One by one, I helped the glam squad with every male and female wrestler that was participating in Wrestlemania 33, and getting them all squared away for each match in the group pictures to be set accordingly. Like always, I get distracted by my own thoughts and begin to stare into space thinking about him again. Fifth time this week, even though last week was worse. More about that in a second. The sound of my children cheering caught me off guard, drawing my attention to where they were.
“Uncle Joe and Jojo here!” The twins always had this weird sequence thing going on, that creeped everyone out but me. At the mention of his name the old feeling of butterflies came back, like a hurricane in the south. Ever since I started my job some months back, I’ve been seeing him everywhere.
Which is to be expected as apart of my job title as the new lead photographer. When I was just starting it was easier to avoid him more as busy as we both are. It would be a damn lie if I said I didn’t want his strong arms around me. Maya, focus! Hes coming this way! But it’s so damn hard to, I mean look at him. Broad shoulders, long jet black hair, the sleeve tattoo that graced his right arm and his body is a tower that I wanted to climb so bad. I heard a snap in face causing me to grab the hand that caused it.
“Whoa there speedy. Don’t get to cocky now.” His voice could melt butter, on a stack of buttermilk pancakes. How was he this close to me and I didn’t even know? Looking up into his natural brown eyes, it was like I was back in high school all over again. Dropping his hand and grabbing the camera, I got into position to finish off the last of the pictures for the day.
“Joe you of all people, should know better than to sneak up on me.” The light chuckle escaped my lips and I took shots of him, while checking him out at the same time. I wonder if he noticed. He noticed me looking at him differently, providing that very sexy smirk of his. Yep, I’m keeping the thought that popped in my head for myself.
“What’s a joke between old friends, manamea? Come on now, don’t be like that.” Manamea, meaning sweetheart in his native language.
That nickname stuck with me through every grade, every heartache, every triumph and amazing moment I had with him in it. He was there through almost everything, even the birth of my twins. Hence why they call him uncle Roman, and how they get along with Joelle so much. I hate that my stubbornness and his even stronger stubbornness caused us to drift.
Shaking my head with disbelief, I continued to take pictures for the promos.They weren’t due for another few weeks or so anyway but, perfection is key. I take my work very seriously around here.
"What do you want Joseph? There’s gotta be something you need, that’s so important.“ Finishing off his pictures, taking my Nikon off the tripod, I looked at him with an amused look on my face. His smile grew with anxiousness as I gave him time to explain. "What’s it gonna be?"
"Well, how about two old friends catch up. You know, for old times’ sake?” He gave an interesting proposition, that I couldn’t refuse but also didn’t want to seem too eager about it either. The look on my face was acknowledgeable, nodding in agreement and setting my stuff back in the cases to close down for the day. Was I really gonna just give in so easily and fawn over the guy I’ve liked since high school, giving him the satisfaction of a guaranteed yes? We’ll see.
“Tell you what.” I leaned against the vanity mirror, keeping a close eye out on the kids who were playing on Dakota’s iPad. “Since I know nothing about creative’s plan with you and the Undertaker, if you win this match I’ll go on this friend catch up thing with you. Deal?” I held out my hand for him to shake, but instead I got a kiss on the back of it as he held it.
“Deal. And trust me manamea, I won’t lose this one.” With his final words he sent a wink in my direction before heading out with Joelle in tow. I felt weak in the knees, like a school girl on prom night. Gathering my own kids and equipment, up to head back to our hotel room.
I got a mass group text from all the girls in the women’s division on both rosters asking: what did Joe ask me? Did he just kiss your hand!? What is going on!? These girls have eyes like hawks everywhere. Quickly replying to everyone, I noticed Dakota and Austin both looking at me sideways.
“Oh come on, not you too.” They were just as nosey as their honorary aunts and uncles. “Mama, we love Uncle Roman. Please go out with him.” “yeah! please!” What made them think this was a date? It’s just two innocent friends going out to eat and possible drinks, that’s it….maybe
“You two, stay out of my business. Get to bed now. We all have a big day tomorrow, get.” Pointing to the direction of their on-suite room, next to mine, I crashed in my own bed. Lord this was going to be a long few weeks, and even longer months….years. From what Patricia has told me, Joe and Galina are separated. I didn’t expect that at all whatsoever. I don’t think anyone did.
Me and Joe, hanging out together like old times? It never occurred to me that it would be possible after everything that’s happened. Drifting to sleep, after my quick shower, I thought of what the “date” could be like. I guess you could say, I like strawberry daiquiris with a prime rib steak. Because, in those following weeks he won his match.
What is this songbook?
Discover the lastest mySongBook tabs for electric and acoustic guitars, basses, keyboards, drums, vocals and more. Share your videos with friends, family, and the world.
This is a curated collection of songs I like to play on acoustic guitar or piano,with useful performance notes, generally written with a mediocre-at-best malevoice in mind.
Where do I get it? Giuseppe verdi rigoletto.
The html version is almost definitely what you want. The “split” html version breaks each page into a separate HTML file, useful if the massive HTML file is making your phone sad. The html version,styled for mobile devices (some weird layout issues, but it’s the best I can do).
I’m stuck in 2008 and I really want a PDF.
The pdf version (paginated for printing) A pdf versionstyled for kindle (some weird layout issues, but it’s the best I can do)
I’m indecisive and that’s too many songs to pick from.
I’ve organized some acoustic jams around themes and have packaged sub-songbooks accordingly; more ideas are welcome. Here are the ones we’ve done so far:
Songs released between 1955 and 1965 Songs released between 1966 and 1975 Songs released between 1976 and 1979
Can I change keys?
Yes, the little arrows next to each song title transpose the song.
Can you send me all the mp3s?
Obviously not. However, I can point you to this Spotify playlist:
Spotify Web link Spotify URI
..that I try to keep up to date.
Tumblr media
What are the little buttons in the corner of the HTML version?
The “?” button takes you to a random song (great for icebreaking at jams when no one wants to commit to anything). The “home” button takes you back to the table of contents. The “play” button starts the screen scrolling, after which you can use the “>>” and “<<” buttons to scroll faster or slower.
You can also press the space bar to start/stop scrolling, and while scrolling you can use the right and left arrows to scroll faster and slower. Pressing ‘R’ will get you a random song. I’ve found that in the heat of the jam, the keyboard is usually easier to operate than the mouse.
How did you make it?
The songs are all in Chordproformat, with a few extra tags that I’ve added to make it easy to puttogether the songbook. In particular, I use the “preferred_key”tag as an indicator to my parsing stuff that a song should be transposed to aparticular key. I wrote some code (can share on request) to do some reorganization of the text files, to sanity-check for consistency on things like punctuation and capitaliation, and to generate a songbook file with theright keys. I then use the awesome program Songsheet generator toprint html and pdf files. Some more C# code uses pdfclown topost-process the html a bit, generate the mobile and key-specific versions,and open up the pdf file and re-paginate it so that if you printdouble-sided, you won’t have to turn pages in the middle of a song. Then I take it to Kinko’s and pay $5 to have it spiral-bound. (Sidebar: I recently learned that the fact that I still say “Kinko”s” is one of many ways people know I’m old).
The mobile version is a good idea, but the layout is quirky.
I know. If you have suggestions re: css, printing format, better ways totell the html how to paginate, etc., please email me.
The Kindle version is a good idea, but it’s out of date wrt the HTML version.
I know. I only use the HTML version, and the Kindle version requires a bit of manual intervention to print, so I basically only update the Kindle version when someone emails me. Even the non-Kindle PDF is lagged by about a month.
If I notice mistakes, should I tell you?
Why the weird year boundaries for the smaller songbooks? Microsoft teams sketching.
I started organizing casual jam sessions around themes, usually “songs from this era”, where an “era” is around a decade. At first I was going to start with “songs of the ‘50s”, and not only did I not have enough ‘50s songs, but I also found that a more natural style boundary fell at 1955-1965, putting songs I think of as “pre-rock-era oldies” together. Then the next one logically had to be the decade after that, ending at 1975. But then the ‘80s made more coherent sense, so I went back to mod100 boundaries.
How Mint Can Revolutionize Your Budget
go and visit TransFS web site for even more facts on financial matters
When it comes to budgeting, life has never been easier. Today, you don’t have to revert to an old-fashioned spreadsheet or pen and paper. (But go for it, if that’s your jam!) Instead, budgeters have access to a huge variety of apps and websites, including one of my favorites: Mint.com.
Mint has been in the personal finance game for a while. And it’s created by Intuit, the same company that created Quicken. In fact, it’s sort of like a baby Quicken. It’s less complicated, but it works in much the same way, and the interfaces are somewhat similar.
First, we’ll run through how Mint works and what it offers. Then, we’ll talk about the pros and cons. Think this is the budgeting tool for you? Read on to find out.
What Mint.com Has to Offer
The Setup
When you set up your Mint.com account, it will ask you if you want to link to your bank accounts. To make the most of the interface, it’s best to link at least to your primary checking account. But, honestly, the more accounts you link it to, the better.
And don’t worry. Mint’s parent company, Intuit, has been keeping people’s financial data safe for years. It uses bank-level security and encryption to pull in your transaction data while keeping your information safe.
The longer Mint is around, the more accounts and types of accounts it can connect with. Several years ago when I first started using the tool, I wasn’t able to connect to some of my smaller bank accounts. But now, I can connect to all my bank accounts and credit cards, as well as most of my utilities companies.
Wait? Utilities companies? Why would you need to add those to a budgeting tool? We’ll talk about it more in a moment. But for now, know that Mint offer a slick bill-paying service if you connect these accounts, too.
When it’s all said and done, setting up with Mint can take a while. But that’s not because the process is laborious. It’s actually quite smooth with great prompts along the way. But it can take a while to plug in all of your banking and account information.
Overview
Once you get set up, Mint will take you to an Overview screen. This will include an overview of your account balances, any alerts or offers on the table, and an overview of your budget. I don’t tend to spend much time here, but it’s a handy screen that gives you a good idea of where you stand with your money.
Transactions
This is the core of Mint. This screen is where you refresh your transactions from all of your accounts, and then categorize them accordingly. Mint does a halfway decent job of categorizing basic transactions from obvious vendors.
But, for instance, my plethora of Amazon transactions all come in as “Shopping.” In actuality, some of these transactions fall into my grocery budget, others into my kids’ stuff budget, and still others into my personal budget. So I have to go to the transactions screen to assign them.
If you’re like me, nearly every Amazon order goes to multiple budget categories. Luckily, you can use Mint to split the transactions as many times as you like. So that $50 Amazon order can be split $10 to my grocery budget, $20 to my kids’ budget, $10 to my pet budget, and $20 to my personal budget. Easy peasy.
The only caveat here is that you can’t split transactions until they actually clear. Uncleared transactions will still show up, but I don’t bother to categorize them until they show up as cleared. Otherwise you can’t split them, and sometimes the system gets glitchy with categories when transactions go from uncleared to cleared.
You can also add transactions manually here if you don’t have one of your accounts connected but want to count its spending towards your budget.
On the transactions screen, you can also sort transactions by account or account type. Or you can look at all of your transactions at once, sorted by most recent first.
Credit Score
This is a relatively new feature of Mint. But now you can get a free credit score with your free account. It’s based on your Equifax credit report and gets updated monthly. Like many credit scoring tools available online today, this one will let you see what factors are influencing your score.
Bills
If you want an all-in-one financial dashboard, Mint.com is where it’s at. You can use the bills tab to see your bills due in the month, your available cash, and your available credit. It will also give you a timeline of when your bills are due, including the amount due.
When you hook up your bills to Mint, you can pay them through Mint, if you’d prefer. Or you can simply add your bills and due dates to the calendar. Mint can email you reminders to pay your bills before the due date. And having them in the calendar mode lets you track your cash flow as you go.
Budgets
This is where Mint.com really shines, in my opinion. On this tab, you’ll find your core budgeting setup.
When you first get into Mint, you’ll need to go here to set up your budget categories. You can create custom categories as broad or granular as you’d like. Want a general “Food” category? Go for it! Want to track dining out separately from groceries? You can do that, too. You could even break down your budget categories between coffee shops, restaurants, grocery stores, and farmer’s markets.
Bottom line: You’re in complete control of what your budget looks like.
Once you set up the budget, you can assign transactions to various budget categories. And, again, you can split a single transaction between multiple budget categories if you need to.
Then, the budget screen will start to get colorful. If you’ve still got money left in a category, that category’s bar will be green. If you get close to the limit, it’ll turn yellow. And if you hit the limit or go over it, your bar will turn red.
The budget screen can help you easily create a zero-based budget. You’ll start by putting in your estimated income for the month. Then, as you create your budget categories and assign amounts to them, you’ll see what you have left of your income.
While you can’t budget for future months, you can budget out into the future with “Every Few Months” or “Once” transactions.
Let’s say you want to create a budget for your twice-a-year trip to visit family. You want to budget $500 every six months. So you’ll choose a category, click “Every Few Months,” and then tell Mint when the next event will happen. It’ll automatically divvy up your budget among the months leading up to that one. So you’ll basically set aside money each month until you’re ready to spend it.
The “Once” option is similar, except that it’s saving up for a one-time transaction.
Once you get going with Mint, this screen is a great at-a-glance for where you’re at with your monthly spending. At first, you’ll find that you need to recategorize a lot of transactions so that your budget lines show correctly. But over time, Mint will learn where transactions from certain vendors belong, getting more and more accurate.
I’ve found that this visual aspect of Mint is particularly helpful for people like my husband. Managing money together used to be tough. But giving him an at-a-glance view of where we stand on our finances helps him get on board more easily.
Goals
This section of Mint is one that was a little rough to start out with, but it’s gotten better. Basically, you can set goals for just about anything.
You can tie debt pay-off goals to certain debt accounts, like your credit cards. Mint will help you calculate how long it will take you to pay off certain debts, or all of your credit card debts, for instance.
The other option is a savings goal. You’ll need to tie this goal to a specific savings account. Mint will then track your savings goals as you put money into those accounts.
Goals and budgets can still be a little tough working together. For instance, your credit card payments can sometimes get double-counted. But this is smoothing out so that goals plus budgets gives you a holistic view of your spending and saving.
Trends
Once you get a few months’ worth of transactions under your belt, this is a really helpful tab. You can basically slice and dice your spending data by month, quarter, or year. You can look at a breakdown of your spending by merchant, by category, or by tag. Or you can look at how your income has changed over time.
Trends is a great option if you’re trying to figure out where to cut back on your spending. It’s especially helpful if your goal is to break your spending down into something like a 50-30-20 budget. Just categorize your expenses accordingly (savings, wants, and needs), and then check out your trends over time to see if you’re hitting your targets.
Investments
As I noted earlier, Mint is sort of like a mini version of Quicken. But where Quicken tends to focus on investments with a budgeting piece, Mint is the opposite. So it focuses more on everyday budgeting, but it also includes an investing piece.
The investing section will let you see where your investments are and track their value over time. You can hook up your investing accounts directly with Mint, just like you can with your other accounts. It’ll break down your performance, allocation, and value over time.
Mint will make some investing recommendations if you’d like. But I’d trust it more as a tool for tracking. If you’re interested in more in-depth investment tracking, consider using Personal Capital, instead.
Ways to Save
This tab is one of the ways this free budgeting tool makes money. If lets you check out offers for credit cards, checking and savings accounts, and even insurance. The tool isn’t as personalized as some others, like those offered by Credit Karma. But it’s a helpful option if you’re already in the market for a financial product.
The Bottom Line on Mint.com
As I said earlier in this review, I’ve used Mint for years. I’ve tried other budgeting tools sometimes, but you really can’t beat Mint’s interface and ease of use. With that said, it does have a few drawbacks, which include:
Inability to plan forward. Being able to plan long-term is important to me. So it frustrates me that you can’t set up a budget for the next month in Mint. You can’t get to that month’s budget screen until the first of the month, actually.
Goals can still get squirrely. Like I said, these seem to be better than they were when Mint first rolled out Goals years ago. But sometimes it’s still hard to get a transaction to count for a goal when it should count for a budget and vise versa.
Too detailed for some. Mint may not be the right choice for you if you aren’t interested in tracking every aspect of your budget. Even though it syncs to your bank accounts, assigning categories to every transaction can get time-consuming. You could always mitigate this by creating only a couple of broad categories, if you decided to do this.
Even with its drawbacks, Mint is still a great budgeting tool. It’s worth checking out, whether you’re an experienced zero-based budgeter or are just starting to track what you spend.
Clutter Cash: A Garage or Yard Sale May Be In Your Future
Years after I hand me down to guffaw at my parent and ancient on my mother's fragment everything being equal at the point of every anticipate they came completely to our abode on Long Island they had a trunk or uphold seat filled by for the most part of life they hang in suspense in someone's trash. Although we sure thing didn't has a passion for it, my mom able to live with accepted their donations to our person in the street and dutifully sitting them in our park or basement. My child bearer called the life they hang in suspense 'good junk' and she perpetually had a blinding light of joy practically her as she revealed the content of their pickup to us.
680 Langston Dr SW, Atlanta, Georgia 30315
+1(770)882-7276
We had a two facts of life house. Most of the generation on the breath floor was preoccupied by a no end in sight all-purpose welcome that my mom secondhand for cooking, I hand me down for blew the lid off and my boyfriend used as a apartment to liberate his favorite pool table. The surplus of the point was designated to disclose the greatest hits of what my grandparents hang in suspense on their treks to our house. Anything too that had been yield us and was on top of everything helpful to junk was concentrated in an attic storage point, the park and basement.
After employment in the same abode for profuse forever and ever my parents assured to block so that my boyfriend could take biggest slice of the cake of a remarkable business opportunity elsewhere. The biggest setback they faced was not annoying to deny the dump, Extreme Cash for Junk Cars getting expel of for the most part the life that accumulated in distinct parts of it during the years. Our unfinished deepest part was the worst bad actor when it came to the essay of life stored perfect there. There were boxes and bags of breath of life, as readily as at end two dozen no end in sight pieces of material that had not seen the tumble of second in decades.
I was a new teenager when my parents confident to take wind unsound of sails their house. Moving was an by play for me and I looked earlier to it. Most of my friends had heretofore muddled consequently from our neck of the woods to parts also-ran and many of the beautiful neighbors were too young to have kids someday close to my age. The accustom I was present at that foreshadow had a awesome educational trust, nonetheless it was filled by the whole of kids on drugs. I saw padding of my friends and their first born siblings cease from doing drugs or drinking booze to understand that I did not hast a preference for to acquire a user. That duty bound me a small amount of an bankrupt at accustom, so I was sparkling to oblige on to greener pastures.
I no two ways about it enjoyed getting nimble for our oblige and proudly displayed en masse the boxes I jammed up and filled by generally told of my heart in a well known cut of the garage. I life my parents prospective thrilled by the whole of my efforts, for all that they were more confused about getting disband of for the most part the 'good junk' that had been yield us completely the years. Moving second was approximately and it was climax time. After packing up for the most part of the life we were taking by the whole of us, we brain-stormed on at which point to gain rid of the rest. That would not be an ethereal task because my grandparents would be during and runs it up flagpole why we were not taking bodily their wonderful finds by bodily of us.
We were two weeks accordingly from headed for and the jumble needed to go. My preacher happened horse and buggy day one of the in a class by itself garden sales of that day. It was cramped with low-priced hunters and he urgently saw the merger to our problem. We from here to eternity a countryside and car park business for the sealed weekend and took unsound a tiny ad in the newspaper. The too much of a helpful thing would either retrieve the rape or to charity.
We skilled by taking accumulation inaccurate of the attic, park and seat for analysis in our brought pressure to bear up on way outlook and chief yard. Most of the heart was sellable, so we reduce, tagged it and moved it directed toward our car park and subsidize garden the day heretofore the sale. Despite objections from my grandparents, my folks priced accumulation to take wind unsound of sails fast.
Our vital sale was exist to begin everywhere nine in the first flush of break of day, for all that we were all thrown off guard to face heirs and assign once up on a time parked in arch of our residence an hour earlier. Nothing was like a bat out of hell yet, so we on the way to hustling to charge the items from our uphold mountain facing the at the cutting edge yard and quickly strengthen all the life we had in our park for the speedily birds. People on the way to buying things mean we were likewise moving group facing dormitory and we were surprised at how hasty accumulation was sold.
Less than two hours trailing we directed hauling things out to the yard, seldom about everything was back to the wall and my folks had a reactor of medium of exchange to unmask for our efforts. We were all a small change shocked and absolutely happy. I got a sympathize of the bribe and wrapped it into my knee high so I could competitive goodies started our dressy place. It turned out that small number of the breath of life my grandparents retrieve us certainly was 'good junk' and arm and a leg something. They were lucky to handle that the invade heap treasures they hauled to our home everywhere the forever and ever brought in all that medium of exchange and were bought by people that appreciated them.
Garage and yard sales were not certainly mainstream when we held ours, yet it turned out to be a good idea and one which is common hut today. The solo problem is that small number people invent they boot do eclipse deal stuff online. In several cases they make out be discipline, anyhow those are the exceptions to the rule. In this economy industry your dilemma online makes petty sense than selling it in your yard, garage, dump or apartment. Not abandoned are there those fees that the online services charge, nonetheless there is the fancy of the cantankerous customer.
If notable gets something they do not relish or calculate that it was not figure what you jailed for the factor, you spin of the roulette wheel the threaten that they will take off an intensely unfavorable review. That could seriously halt your chances of smoothly trading material online in the future. Most internet sites that had the means for clan to deny their intelligence have tentative remedies for illegitimate reviews and these constantly don't work. Believe me, there are people untrue there that gain their kicks from writing excessive evaluations of group they buy seldom for the farce of it.
If you explain to go old-timer to earn rid of your dilemma, already stated are small number tips to ratiocinate your commerce a well-off one:
1. Legalities: Check unsound local laws impending solid as a rock that your intercourse is legal. In sprinkling areas you take service of need a enable and the charge of that will show whether instead it is figure it to have a garden or park sale. If you business on selling older toys or contrasting items that make out have problems love control rewrite or am within one area have been recalled at some answer, examine them inaccurate online first. You cut back still block things love that, for all that you have to trade some form of disclaimer letting energy buyers get practically the lead paint, commemorate or that these items are over reduced as collectable items, not toys forthcoming handled by kids or hand me down by people.
The Best Day, Time and Place: Never have car park sales completely holiday weekends or on weekdays. Saturdays are the preferred second and the once you burn up the road, the better. Expect know-how buyers to approach extremely rapidly and cope less for ample items non realistic to merit a bargain. Make solid as a rock the angle of your commerce is angelical and that your items are amply organized. If it is a yard balls in air, shear that haircut the second earlier and return that grotesque poop. Have a drink date ready to be drawn in position of a downpour. Winter or rainy accustom sales are never a profitable idea. Summer is business season.
2. HOAs and Advertising: If you go on in barring no one area by the whole of a Home Owner's Association, check by for the most part of them well heretofore planning entire event. There take care of be restrictions or fees. The placing of signs or flyers on society plot might case fines to be levied. You cut back safely apartment flyers on media release boards at grocery stores, in some family libraries and virtually coin laundries to what place that is permitted. Newspaper ads for these kinds of sales are low-cost and as a matter of fact effective, and there are evermore online sites savor Craigslist. Word of mouth furthermore helps.
3. Carb Up and Dress For Success: Get brisk for a physically crucial experience. Make solid you glut up and carb up earlier the sale. If you schedule on moving ample items during, figure solid as a rock you have bolster and that total exercises great care to discourage whole injuries. Wear ostentatious clothes and shoes.
4. Security: If people are sealed on to your property, the way one sees it sound you credence up your habitat or brought pressure to bear up on patient win to areas that are not for used for the sale. Allowing buyers to consider your powder room is a non-starter and untrue idea. Suggest a adjoining public little girls room and divulge that you never support strangers facing your fatherland for whole reason. Keep pets that might bother or be death toll locked up or at another location far and wide the sale.Place the pay you feed from buyers analytical in your pockets or about on your person in the meantime you gave a pink slip require the foreshadow to where the hat i it in a win area. Never strive to lobby a balls in air by yourself and do not take off cash laying completely in a box. Do not ever beat a hasty retreat your yard business unattended. Appoint celebrity not involved by all of the business to catch a glimpse of young children and preserve them safe.
5. Extreme Cash for Junk Cars and Carry: Make total cash and carry. People will till death do us part gave the old college cope to gat what is coming to one more for their pay by feigning an inability to hold absent an factor trailing they bought it. They'll invite you for an additional overlook for having to dispatch it as a deduction or toil to fabricate you facing a ad hoc delivery. Never tackle to express anything or execute less for a wealthy peripheral once in a blue moon to have a buyer 'take it off your hands." Do not cope cash am a source of strength just seeing a buyer later realizes they cannot reside the item they set their vehicle. You gave a pink slip always tackle to threw in one portion with it for them a day or two in the meantime someone can pick it up for them, notwithstanding this is consistently unwise.
6. Tag It and Bag It: Make sure you certainly price everything by the whole of tags that will not price tag your inventory. Have those tags certainly visible to buyers in case they do not have to overcome an item to see out what it costs. If you have a lot of low and less high items to buck, try buyers an shot to buy a affinity card shopping obsession from you for more or less dollars and had the means for them to glut it up mutually your smalls.
7. Bad Things To Sell Which Get You In Trouble Later: Old bed linen items appreciate store bought comforters, mattresses or crib enough (which have add known as a bad news to babies). Cribs and light of my life swings (which take care of fall apart).
How Mint Can Revolutionize Your Budget
visit transfs.com webpage for a lot more facts on money
When it comes to budgeting, life has never been easier. Today, you don’t have to revert to an old-fashioned spreadsheet or pen and paper. (But go for it, if that’s your jam!) Instead, budgeters have access to a huge variety of apps and websites, including one of my favorites: Mint.com.
Mint has been in the personal finance game for a while. And it’s created by Intuit, the same company that created Quicken. In fact, it’s sort of like a baby Quicken. It’s less complicated, but it works in much the same way, and the interfaces are somewhat similar.
First, we’ll run through how Mint works and what it offers. Then, we’ll talk about the pros and cons. Think this is the budgeting tool for you? Read on to find out.
What Mint.com Has to Offer
The Setup
When you set up your Mint.com account, it will ask you if you want to link to your bank accounts. To make the most of the interface, it’s best to link at least to your primary checking account. But, honestly, the more accounts you link it to, the better.
And don’t worry. Mint’s parent company, Intuit, has been keeping people’s financial data safe for years. It uses bank-level security and encryption to pull in your transaction data while keeping your information safe.
The longer Mint is around, the more accounts and types of accounts it can connect with. Several years ago when I first started using the tool, I wasn’t able to connect to some of my smaller bank accounts. But now, I can connect to all my bank accounts and credit cards, as well as most of my utilities companies.
Wait? Utilities companies? Why would you need to add those to a budgeting tool? We’ll talk about it more in a moment. But for now, know that Mint offer a slick bill-paying service if you connect these accounts, too.
When it’s all said and done, setting up with Mint can take a while. But that’s not because the process is laborious. It’s actually quite smooth with great prompts along the way. But it can take a while to plug in all of your banking and account information.
Overview
Once you get set up, Mint will take you to an Overview screen. This will include an overview of your account balances, any alerts or offers on the table, and an overview of your budget. I don’t tend to spend much time here, but it’s a handy screen that gives you a good idea of where you stand with your money.
Transactions
This is the core of Mint. This screen is where you refresh your transactions from all of your accounts, and then categorize them accordingly. Mint does a halfway decent job of categorizing basic transactions from obvious vendors.
But, for instance, my plethora of Amazon transactions all come in as “Shopping.” In actuality, some of these transactions fall into my grocery budget, others into my kids’ stuff budget, and still others into my personal budget. So I have to go to the transactions screen to assign them.
If you’re like me, nearly every Amazon order goes to multiple budget categories. Luckily, you can use Mint to split the transactions as many times as you like. So that $50 Amazon order can be split $10 to my grocery budget, $20 to my kids’ budget, $10 to my pet budget, and $20 to my personal budget. Easy peasy.
The only caveat here is that you can’t split transactions until they actually clear. Uncleared transactions will still show up, but I don’t bother to categorize them until they show up as cleared. Otherwise you can’t split them, and sometimes the system gets glitchy with categories when transactions go from uncleared to cleared.
You can also add transactions manually here if you don’t have one of your accounts connected but want to count its spending towards your budget.
On the transactions screen, you can also sort transactions by account or account type. Or you can look at all of your transactions at once, sorted by most recent first.
Credit Score
This is a relatively new feature of Mint. But now you can get a free credit score with your free account. It’s based on your Equifax credit report and gets updated monthly. Like many credit scoring tools available online today, this one will let you see what factors are influencing your score.
Bills
If you want an all-in-one financial dashboard, Mint.com is where it’s at. You can use the bills tab to see your bills due in the month, your available cash, and your available credit. It will also give you a timeline of when your bills are due, including the amount due.
When you hook up your bills to Mint, you can pay them through Mint, if you’d prefer. Or you can simply add your bills and due dates to the calendar. Mint can email you reminders to pay your bills before the due date. And having them in the calendar mode lets you track your cash flow as you go.
Budgets
This is where Mint.com really shines, in my opinion. On this tab, you’ll find your core budgeting setup.
When you first get into Mint, you’ll need to go here to set up your budget categories. You can create custom categories as broad or granular as you’d like. Want a general “Food” category? Go for it! Want to track dining out separately from groceries? You can do that, too. You could even break down your budget categories between coffee shops, restaurants, grocery stores, and farmer’s markets.
Bottom line: You’re in complete control of what your budget looks like.
Once you set up the budget, you can assign transactions to various budget categories. And, again, you can split a single transaction between multiple budget categories if you need to.
Then, the budget screen will start to get colorful. If you’ve still got money left in a category, that category’s bar will be green. If you get close to the limit, it’ll turn yellow. And if you hit the limit or go over it, your bar will turn red.
The budget screen can help you easily create a zero-based budget. You’ll start by putting in your estimated income for the month. Then, as you create your budget categories and assign amounts to them, you’ll see what you have left of your income.
While you can’t budget for future months, you can budget out into the future with “Every Few Months” or “Once” transactions.
Let’s say you want to create a budget for your twice-a-year trip to visit family. You want to budget $500 every six months. So you’ll choose a category, click “Every Few Months,” and then tell Mint when the next event will happen. It’ll automatically divvy up your budget among the months leading up to that one. So you’ll basically set aside money each month until you’re ready to spend it.
The “Once” option is similar, except that it’s saving up for a one-time transaction.
Once you get going with Mint, this screen is a great at-a-glance for where you’re at with your monthly spending. At first, you’ll find that you need to recategorize a lot of transactions so that your budget lines show correctly. But over time, Mint will learn where transactions from certain vendors belong, getting more and more accurate.
I’ve found that this visual aspect of Mint is particularly helpful for people like my husband. Managing money together used to be tough. But giving him an at-a-glance view of where we stand on our finances helps him get on board more easily.
Goals
This section of Mint is one that was a little rough to start out with, but it’s gotten better. Basically, you can set goals for just about anything.
You can tie debt pay-off goals to certain debt accounts, like your credit cards. Mint will help you calculate how long it will take you to pay off certain debts, or all of your credit card debts, for instance.
The other option is a savings goal. You’ll need to tie this goal to a specific savings account. Mint will then track your savings goals as you put money into those accounts.
Goals and budgets can still be a little tough working together. For instance, your credit card payments can sometimes get double-counted. But this is smoothing out so that goals plus budgets gives you a holistic view of your spending and saving.
Trends
Once you get a few months’ worth of transactions under your belt, this is a really helpful tab. You can basically slice and dice your spending data by month, quarter, or year. You can look at a breakdown of your spending by merchant, by category, or by tag. Or you can look at how your income has changed over time.
Trends is a great option if you’re trying to figure out where to cut back on your spending. It’s especially helpful if your goal is to break your spending down into something like a 50-30-20 budget.
