oooh i see the elwing discourse is coming back on twitter

#in the past i wouldve joined in the bashing #but recently #i've really started to take a more nuanced take #because i kinda understand what her fans are going through #and i am empathetic toward her #i still see her as a bad mom #but i get her fandom #coming from a fandom where the narrative treated my fave like shit up until recently #and because of that people would be so over protective to the point where it got annoying #i understand that feeling #like if the creators are so shitty to a character then the fandom itself is going to rally behind that character even if sometimes they los #the plot #which i dont agree with #i don't thing el*ing is treated badly by the narrative at all #in fact #she is hailed as a hero #she is haled as a good mother/leader #which imo she is not #but then i see that a lot of hate toward her is based in misogyny #esp when male character who did worse - like her husband #are often defended by the fandbase #i think at first critique of her was well founded #but eventually it was met with people getting over protective and THAT is when the critique became misogynistic #but i am empathetic to her now #and to an extent her fans #because now i get it
