listen... listen. i'd love just as much as anybody to get to make a fool of myself in person with all my fellow fools, as opposed to making a collective fool of ourselves online. I just don't know if we have the brainpower to organize it. The first dashcon, as far as i know, was a logistical disaster. I know there's a spreadsheet side of tumblr, and... *shudder* a business side (I checked) but are they willing to help? are we willing to accept their help?
More issues to consider: With the cost of living and travel and the very decentralized tumblr userbase, on what continent would dashcon 2.0 be held? would there need to be online signups? payments? a website? who would create and oversee those things?
What if we tried to have a number of smaller cons for different regions? Only around 600 folks have answered 100% YES on your poll - How many users need to show up before we have folks from enough major communities to feel like a true tumblr party? How do we guarantee those numbers? What about major blogs? do we just hope they show up or pay them to sign autographs? is it a multi-day affair, like dashcon tried to be, or do we aim low?
There is so much that goes into an event like this- transit, trucking, storage, space, sign-ups, accounting, licensing, begging, scheduling, convincing, emailing, hiring, firing, decorating, ordering, packing... I haven't even gotten to the tip of the iceberg meme.
Do we hire planners and event companies, or are we too embarrassed to ask? How does everyone work around their day jobs and careers? Who is organizing dashcon 2.0, and what is their stake in it? How do we not repeat the mistakes of those who came before us?
Anyway, if you're gonna do it, I want to help. let's talk.
hmm alright I have thoughts
because I agree, I don’t know if we have the brainpower or money to organize it. my sincere hope with posting about a hypothetical dashcon has been that some super determined millionaire would be like “hey here- have this money and here’s a bunch of connections I have to people to help you organize this”…..so basically lots and lots of wishful thinking lmao.
while the business side of tumblr does seem terrifying, we might have to accept their help if they’re willing.
all of the logistics you mentioned are very very true things that I imagine the original dashcon creators didn’t fully take into account (or i’d assume as much based on the chaos that ensued lol)
as for location, yeahhh that’s the definite hard part. in my head, I keep seeing this as like a vidcon (which is terrible because it wouldn’t be as big but idk) which is held in California. but idk how feasible that is for the average Tumblr base. and that does definitely cut down the amount of people that would be able or willing to come so idk.
and I also imagine having like panels and possibly meet and greets or something with major blog owners, but idk if we’d just beg them to come or find a way to pay them.
As for the whole last paragraph- aaaaah I have absolutely no idea.
i’m definitely not going to spearhead organizing such an event (mostly because I don’t want my real name associated with it in case it goes to shit again lmaoo) but if someone else had more resources to do so, I would absolutely be willing to help.
and if anyone sees this and has conference-planning experience and wants to help make a bunch of wishful Tumblr users dreams come true…. please let me know and i’d love to help!

𝐂𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐊𝐞𝐞𝐩𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐚𝐭
follow up post to Best to Let Go
i don't like revenge fics, so have a series about forgiveness and healing
@iruiji
Tumblr media
No matter where you scrolled on your phone- hell, even at movie theaters. You keep being reminded of what you consider hell. You remember being chased and killed by the people who were supposed to be kind, spewing something about an Almighty Creator. Never once have you read it in the lore, nor have you seen anyone talk about them.. besides things you found on Tumblr.
You weren't sure how to express these strong emotions you felt, and it's slowly eating you at the seams. Nobody understood what you had gone through, sure there is people who see it as a silly little story- but they don't ACTUALLY understand what it feels like to be in your shoes.
You don't want revenge, but you can't help but feel like you deserve that. Some sort of justice for what happened to you. Just being able to forgive them and have somebody not call what you went through a lie. No matter how much you searched for someone, they would all call you delusional. I mean, who is supposed to believe a random stranger on a fanfiction website? Your feelings are being totally disregarded by everyone. Now, where have you seen this before?
You don't have a safe haven anymore, nobody to go to for advice. Nobody to hear you out. They wouldn't understand how you feel, even if they did try. So why don't you go to somewhere you'll be appreciated at?
When you got home and comfortable in your own bed, your mind can't possibly focus knowing that there were people who were out to get you and could still be lurking around the corner. Your mind is mixed with fiction and reality, constantly trying to figure out which one to believe in.
You know that you can feel like whole again just by a click off the button. Running back exactly to what hurt you just for some sense of comfort. Going onto the app store, spotting the Genshin Impact title.
Something is calling you back. The people are calling you back. They want you back. They need you back. You hit the download button.
Taking a deep breath in, not even sure if it's gonna work. You clutched your chest tightly. Waiting for it to finish. Nothing will beat the thrill-craze and the adrenaline rush you had over it. Your heart beat aches for some sort of relief from the loneliness you've felt.
As soon as you opened the app, then the mysterious door on the title screen. It was like a huge wave of nausea washed over you, wiping you out with it.
Waking up, you were blinded by bright lights, immediately noticeable as the ones from the cathedral.. in the back? After rubbing your eyes and sitting up, your breath hitched.
You pushed yourself off the uncomfortable sheet with a bit of struggle. As you were getting up, Barbara walked into the room and gasped, nearly dropping the tray of needles she was holding. After setting the tray down, she ran out the room to alert the others of your awakening.
With a deep sigh, you couldn't help but feel like a weight had been lifted off your chest. She didn't immediately try killing you this time. A smile grew on your face. You tried getting off the the bed but your arms are far too weak to pick you up. Not fighting back, you just slumped back down on the uncomfortable hospital-like mattress.
Not soon later, the group from Mondstadt walks in: Jean, Venti, Diluc, Kaeya, Amber. Them all expressing sad faces, all except one, Venti. You sat back up again, letting the silence run across the room. Jean was the first one to speak up. “M'lord,” she bowed down on her knees- everyone else mimicked her, you cringed. “Thank you for blessing Teyvat with your awakening. We are terribly sorry.”
You don't know either to scoff or make fun of them, but you just keep quiet. “Please give Mondstadt any sort of judgement you see fit,” Jean continued. Which caused Venti to give her an odd look.
“No, no, no. Your grace, Jean has it all wrong,” Venti was the first one to stand up and look you in the eye. Which you couldn't help but be thankful for. “After you left, Teyvat fell into shambles,” he talked with his hands. “I didn't show up to the execution, however since I wasn't going to help hunt you down, the Cr- Imposter took away my powers.”
You cleared your throat, it being rough and honestly stinging. “Ah.. can you all stand up?” They all shoot you a confused look, but comply nonetheless. “I see, but just don't understand why all of this happened,” you gripped the sheets a bit.
“Because, the Imposter was a tyrant.” Diluc stated, arms crossed.
“Well- no shit,” you deadpan. “I'm talking about like- why me?”
“We aren't quite sure, but aren't we glad to have you back, M'lord!” Amber chirped, a hand on her hip.
Telling them to stop calling you that would be like peeling ginger. You sighed with exasperation. At least people care and understand you in Teyvat. You look towards Kaeya, the only person who hasn't talked yet. “How do you feel about this?”
“Solely sticking to the facts here? I am quite relieved.” Kaeya nods, “as Barbatoes said, Teyvat fell into shambles; wars and just death broke out across the world.”
“I feel like I should explain this, Kaeya,” Jean gives him a look of sympathy, knowing his pain and exhaustion from the fighting around them. “Specifically Sumeru, Snezhnya, and Mondstadt allied, since we were the only nations whose archons didn't show up for your public execution.” She explained, pacing herself back and forth. “Everyone set their targets on the Imposter first, and then started pointing fingers at each other. Liyue had it the worst.”
“But I'm here now, so will the wars stop?”
“The wars ended a long time ago.” Venti cuts in, “archons were simply publicly humiliated. And in the nations with gods as rulers, their powers in the government has been brought down by lots.”
“This is too complicated, why couldn't I be brought into soft AU?”
“Excuse me, M'lord?” Amber meeks out, “I think I speak for the entirety of Teyvat when I say we're happy to have you back.” It warmed your heart to hear that.
Now with all the sappy feelings out the way, “so what now?” You questioned.
“Up to you. Bring punishment, rule, or anything.” Jean says, “just know, no matter what, the city of freedom has your back.”
“How about no ruling, but instead a celebration?” A smile was plastered on your face as you asked. “In two days would be the best.”
“As you wish M'lord,” Venti bows. They all began to leave the room one by one.
Well that wasn't so bad, was it? Now you gotta prepare! It feel great to be back.

You know, I've been here a while watching the sag-aftra and the writers strike quite aptly as a 19 year old university student who's only other hobby is literally consuming media so this is kind of important to me and I'm not gonna lie it makes me kind of sad.
But not in the way anyone would think. Before we jump to conclusions I am in full support of all the strikes. Don't stop until you get the compensation you deserve.
But it makes me sad because for context I'm South African. I go to university on a financial aid scheme created by the government and lately out government has been getting worse and worse. Showing its stripes worse and worse. And so I'm not shocked that their financial aid scheme is showing funny changed.
So the financial aid scheme is call Nationtional Student Financial Aid Scheme, it became a bursary (scholarship) a few years ago after a bunch of "fee must fall strikes" which were in response to high tertiary school fees. That happened while I was in primary school (around grade 7) and it now funds disadvantaged students whose families earn a household income of less than ZAR350000 per annum ($19520, €17538, £15172).
Okay cool. Nice. But what it doesn't take into account are middle income families earning over that threshold but are still unable to afford school fees, either because there's many mouths to feed in a household or because they are just part of the missing middle but that's not the chat.
As much as I see #treelaw trending I also wanna see NSFAS trending. I want to see tumblr talking about all these things cause they are such a big fucking deal.
Usually how the scheme works is they send money to the university that pays tuition, the university also distributes the accommodation and living allowance to the funded students. Recently, the scheme has changed and they decided to create a bank account that sends students living allowances straight to them and here's where the problem starts.
There was a bid to decide which corporation/banks would be in charge of creating this specific NSFAS student bank account and a bunch of corporations no one has ever heard of outbid the largest banks and organisations in the country. The company is called Noracco, eZaga, Coinvest and Tenet.
Now here's where things get silly goofy.
They are not a registered financial service provider. They barely even have a fucking website. And they are handling people's livelihoods and billions of South African Rands. Only one of the corporations is connected to an authorised financial service provider which is eZaga. (How this was not a requirement I have no idea)
Students are not getting their living allowances. This means no groceries, no transport home, toiletries, nothing. Keep in mind these are disadvantaged students. No one is getting extra money from home to help them with such expenses
They have terrible service. No phone calls, emails nothing is answered.
They have insanely high bank charges. This takes advantage of so many students and uses up what little allowance money they have to live. A student usually receives around R1600 for a month (which is around 89USD)
You can't spend more than a capped amount of money a day, which is incredibly inconvenient when shopping for groceries as one can spend almost R800 (44USD) on groceries plus an extra R50-R100 (3-8 USD) for transportation.
This was started in the middle of the school year (February-November is how the year works here, it started in June/July for universities and TVETs had been introduced to in 2022 and have been striking against it since)
Students are out here SUFFERING and there is no one helping!!! We are being THREATENED to participate in this sham with out living allowances being WITHHELD FROM US.
The financial abuse is soooo real
I know im talking into the void but I'm hoping and praying that this catches someone's attention enough for people to start talking about it.
Here are a bunch of articles calling out this weird, Obviously corrupt organisations that answer anything that doesn't currently have any links connected to it.
The public protector has also recently been assigned to investigate.
https://www.outa.co.za/blog/newsroom-1/post/nsfas-what-are-you-doing-with-student-funds-1233

https://www.timeslive.co.za/news/south-africa/2023-07-10-tut-students-reject-new-banking-system-for-nsfas-beneficiaries/
On top of this, NSFAS has also been defending thousands of students nationally referring to them as "undeserving". While I understand there are some people who take advantage of them system specifically for underprivileged students the way they went about it is not the best.
Students are actively being thrown out of their residents and accommodations and being de-registered from their institutions. Questions have been put in place as to what is deemed as undeserving but all NSFAS can claim is students who are financially and/or academically ineligible refusing to take into account student circumstances.
At the end of the day, every student uses the scheme the same way. And sure sometimes there's someone with a household with more than R350000 p/a benefiting but personally, I don't see anything wrong with someone having a little extra pocket money. There is no reason anyone, anywhere should be forced to live on a to make ends meet budget.
This was not the best layout. It was probably messy and all over the place, but I have never really written something this long, complex and detailed for tumblr. It's missing so many important details and contexts that I'm hoping anyone who cares to read will find out more about and help give us a voice.
We just want to learn without worrying about where we're going to sleep or what we're going to eat.
Please any attention is good, just to put pressure on the people in charge. Please let's get tree law and fund the defended trending together. ❤️

Rules for new tumblr users
I'm sure people will have seen other mcyt blogs first and they've all given warnings but I'm just making this to pin at the top of my blog and so I can edit it when I inevitably realise I've forgotten something.
General ground rules:
If you have a default profile picture, blog and haven't reblogged anything, you will likely get blocked as a potential spam account. It doesn't have to be a lot, just search the tags for some of your interests and reblog some cool art or something.
You have to curate your own dashboard on tumblr. Search and follow the tags of things you enjoy, find users within those tags you want to see more from, follow and reblog posts from them. And if you aren't enjoying yourself, don't be afraid to unfollow people again (we don't usually pay attention to follower counts) and block tags/people if you really aren't happy seeing them.
If you want to keep things nice and neat, most of us will have a main blog (the one you get when you join the website) and then for any particularly strong interests will have a side blog. You can't like or follow from side blogs, but you can reblog things easily and people can follow side blogs if they share that interest with you. You can even make group blogs by going to the side bar of your sideblog and clicking 'members'!
Don't censor words, especially in the tags. You won't get reported or 'shadowbanned' for saying words like 'kill' or 'fuck' and if you do censor them then people who have them as blocked words and may be triggered by them will see them anyway.
When you join tumblr, there will automatically be sections showing what you've liked and who you've followed publically visible on your blog. Not only can you make these invisible in your settings, but we actively encourage it! People don't usually pay attention to them anyway but it's easier for you to like the things you want when you know people won't see them and judge you.
If you want to have a conversation with other people and get replies, put what you want to say in the main text of reblogs. If you're just trying to add a funny comment or say things without people responding to them, put it in the hashtags or as a reply. It means you can reblog things from other people without also having to reblog hundreds of people's random little comments.
Mcyt specific:
If you're gonna make posts, use 'mcyt' rather than the word 'mine/craft' when you're tagging. That tag is reserved for people who want to talk about the game and if you start talking about your blorbos in their tag, you will be told off for it. Same with tags where the word is included, use (e.g. use mc championships instead of the full name because it will still get picked up by the game's tag)
There are people in the mcyt communities on tumblr who ship and will post about those ships in the main tags. I'm personally not one of those people and try to avoid it where possible but you will inevitably come across it. If that's not your thing, don't make posts raving about how terrible it is or start harrassing them. If you don't want to see it just block the people doing it, block the relevant tags and move on. The communities here are pretty good at tagging their stuff using 'hermitshipping' for hermitcraft, 'trafficshipping' for the life series, 'empireshipping' for empires, and 'dsmpshipping' for dream smp. I don't think it happens much for dsmpblr but the others it's a regular occurence.
A lot of us (including myself) don't want to be noticed by content creators! We were here first and for the people who write fics or make art, they may feel uncomfortable posting if there's a chance a CC will see it. I believe Aimsey's now saying there's an 'Aimsey look' tag that they will go through each week so only people who wanted to be noticed will be, and I know we can't really do much to stop CCs going through the hashtags but just don't @ them in posts unless they're your own or OP specifically says you can.
No drama please! This is supposed to be a chill space and people moving over from twitter aren't going to ruin that. We've been here longer than you have, so you're the guests under our house rules. This is especially the case when it comes to MCCs. Leave Scott and Noxcrew be!
This is a personal one but please don't complain to me about buildmart. Yes I know people hate it and think it's unfair but I and other people here really enjoy it so I will simply block people who complain about it. We're all entitled to opinions but it's really tiring to see people shit on it once a month every month.

Got the Rotten Nyan tumblr queued up with art I've neglected to post on there.. keeping a few more sketchy doodley art still on Twitter/the website, but should be all up a little after midnight my time~
... still feel really self conscious with the kind of content I've been making vent art of lately, please don't be afraid to message me with any concerns or criticisms... I tried tagging it all with a custom warning tag (that way it won't nuke the post, I think...) hopefully that's enough... if not hopefully people let me that as well
In other life news, I'm seeing a therapist, got a job, etc~ More in the cut
So, yeah. Life.
Still a vtuber, but feels like I've stalled lately... Not in terms of growth (if anything I keep growing), but in terms of motivation. I have a list of games to play, but I just can't focus on playing games anymore, it's rough.. mostly do zatsus, but even those are pretty hit or miss and sometimes I spiral into really dumb personal unprofessional rambles...
My art commissions are picking up- more than I can handle, honestly... My clients have gotten pretty big and it's getting me recognition, I have a few big offers in store once I can get around to them and I'm excited about it... but commissions are hard. I'm going to raise prices in January, and I try to accept five a month... but I can't keep up. I can't even do one a month it feels like... And yet I keep getting dozens of requests..
So in spite of this, because of my own doing and lack of doing, I've been bleeding a lot of money. I'm at a dangerous point of money... so I finally got a seasonal job at a local chocolate shop.
Haaaaaaaa.....
It's rough... I was in a huge depression over it, and I still don't want to work... The people are nice, the hours are light, and the pay is better than expected, but it's still so stressful... My social anxiety is terrible lately, it makes me want to curl into a ball and cry. I can't stand it, I can't stand being seen, I can't focus or memorize anything on the register, I can't handle dealing with customers or fast-paced environments...
They say the season lasts until Easter because of the nature of the store, but maybe I'll leave after Christmas time if it doesn't work out.. It's really a pain, and also could affect things like my food stamps and subsidized rent. Plus, the gas I have to spend, the clothes I had to buy, etc etc.. I wonder if it'll be worth it (probably, but nyeh)
I'm in need of money, though... one, my phone is on its last legs. The battery barely lasts an hour, it's very slow and unresponsive, and the 32 GB of storage is becoming more and more unwieldy.. Going to maybe buy one tonight...
My throat is also been a mess lately- I've had trouble swallowing, to the point I was unable to eat anything without a 50-50 chance of just choking on it. Drinking water was like waterboarding, it was like I was drowning. After raising my mattress, it's helped a lot, but not entirely, so I think it's something to do with scarring thanks to acid reflux- been trying to get an endoscopy for a year and finally have one scheduled in mid December. I'm worried how much it might cost.. hoping insurance covers it, but I still had to pay almost a thousand for my colonoscopy a few years back, which terrifies me...
Other small things- items I'd like to own, taking care of Bootsie (she's fine but overdue for a checkup and she's like 13 years old), etc.
But yeah, therapy. Also started taking that- we're trying to avoid me taking any medication, but I'm afraid I might need it.. I see her every week and I've been going since early October, and she seems like a decent therapist- she's the same age as me and understands a lot of internet culture, which.. is weird to talk to someone like that who "gets it" (she's a cosplayer, for example, and knows of vtubers), but it's nice.
Been reliving a lot of past stuffs... Been trying to improve, had some good phases, but fell back apart recently and not sure how far I can really get... keeping my apartment clean is hard, feeding myself is hard, drawing and doing anything is hard. I don't watch any media these days besides some indie vtubers I know, I don't really do much of anything but be depressed.
My biggest issue, as always, is my complex/trauma/whatever you want to call it... I've started trying to embrace it the past year. I've openly admitted to it, I made an alternate Twitter account for vent art of it, etc. But it makes me hate myself so much... It's become an addiction it feels like. Do I let it consume me and fully embrace it, even though it will push people away and make people think worse of me? Even though it will attract strange people who want creepy things from me? Even though it's expensive and gross and exhausting and uncomfortable to manage?
Or do I try to quit cold turkey? Get it all out of my system, and then never talk about it again. Delete the vent account, stop drawing it, stop being paranoid without things to take care of it, and just move on. I don't know. It's a part of me. But I hate it. And I really hate myself for it, it's my biggest tool to hate myself with.
But I've tried to embraced it, and that's what the RN update will have, and I apologize for it. I don't know how to move forward now. Therapy reopened a lot of thoughts about it- it really is a weird trauma, and a lot of it stems from my childhood... I want it gone. I want to be okay and not hurt myself mentally...
But such is life I supposeee. Again, I apologize that most of my art lately has been venting about it.. even if I embrace it, I don't want to be exclusively that kind of artist, you know? It's just one of many aspects. But it's invasive. And I don't want it to be invasive, but I don't know how to handle it.
The main goal of therapy is to get me drawing again. To give me what I've lost- a drive and motivation to continue. It feels like I just go through the motions when I draw. It's awful. I can't picture anything, no ideas. Rotten Nyan is completely stagnant lately. I don't know what to do about it. Life is just empty and depressing, it feels like. I gave up on myself, and now I don't know how to un-give up. But that's what therapy's for. Hopefully it helps... She brought up medication again, and I wonder if I should try it at this rate...
My anxiety is very bad. I end up relying on my complex trauma coping methods a lot when anxious. It's embarrassing and gross. And it just fuels my anxiety more using those things. I can't stand driving, or being around people, or crowded situations. I can't handle stress, or excitement, or being praised, or anything. My nerves are shot and I just have to curl into a ball. I don't know how I'm going to improve, but I have to try...
And then my focus, which I just can't focus at all anymore.. I don't know if it's depression/anxiety, ADHD, or what, but I just can't focus at all. It's awful. Very forgetful, very not-able-to-draw.
Otherwise, not much different. Got the new Nagata Kabi manga (I still worry about her a lot... she's so relatable though, she speaks to me, but she flares my anxiety like crazy too...) Still obsessed with my Disney anime boy gacha game, it's great, Vil's great. Vil, Cater, Lilia, Jade... so many good characters....
I guess that's all for now. Hope everyone has a happy thanksgiving- will keep doing what I can to try to improve.
And again, I'm really sorry about my art output and that most of it is just gross vent art about a gross personal trauma... I'm sorry...

New Writeblr
Hello world.
I'm fairly new to Tumblr and I can't wait to connect properly with the whole Writeblr community since it's the main reason I joined this website.
About me: I am 20 year old Italian biomedical engineering student with a burning passion for writing fantasy stories and novels. So far I've only properly finished and published one of my WIPs in 2015 and since then I've struggled to find the time and inspiration to create something again. But now I'm determined more than ever to keep my passion burning - and that's why I've decided to find a proper community to keep myself motivated and inspired! Since I'm not so keen on sharing names on the world wide web just yet, for the meantime I go by Walruna (or Wal, if you want) on here and I use she/her pronouns. Some more random things about me: I speak three languages (Italian, English and French), I've been practicing Japanese Ju-Jitsu for five years now and I used to have a weird obsession witb ancient Egypt which led me to have a very extensive knowledge of Egyptian archaeology by the age of 8. I am also a lesbian.
My current WIP(s): my current project has been in my head since 2017 and has kept developing and evolving its worldbuilding and characters so much so that it's probably become self-aware at this point. "Skån and the Titans of Warulven" is a high-fantasy/scifi novel centering on Skån, a Walruna - a native species to the planet of Warulven - and Knight of the Order of the Chasm, a para-military Order founded - and funded - by the government of Hegren, the nearby planet that colonised Warulven nearly a hundred years ago in search of a new supply of raw materials for construction. The life of a Knight is a simple one: guarding the Easterns Shires of Hegrenian settlers, sedating riots in the West of Warulven, or simply patrolling "The Chasm", the sigil that keeps the Titans, Warulven's old magical rulers, trapped in a never-ending slumber underneath the surface of the planet. But times are changing rapidly, weird events are shaking the stability of the Order. A mysterious Plague has been driving Walrunas of the Order crazy with terrible visions of a long gone past. In the midst of chaos, when Skån finds out that her long-lost brother and mentor Dalskar, a Plague survivor, is alive in the Eastern regions and that a salty Titan adolescent trapped in the dungeons of the Order knows his whereabouts, she's officialy ready to do what she does best: fuck it all up in an amazing rescue quest.
I hope this snippet of Skån [pron. skon] has intrigued you somehow! As you can imagine, I am writing in my native language at the moment (that would be Italian), but I strive to connect with writers from all over the world therefore I don't mind translating some bits of it if necessary.
if you're curious about this story or just want to chat, hit me up!
Thanks for making it to the end of this post!

In what way was that anon hate. Really answer me that. Or did you just put that because you had no other response and when you have no response to something and don't understand the big scary it's automatically an attack.
I said "stop using this term it's disgusting, here is an explanation of why"
I understand to someone who can't read, that might seem like an attack, but actually it was just telling you where you could see how it's disgusting.
Only if you're someone who gives a solitary fuck about not spreading posts that are just victim blaming and triggering to real victims (we exist! Hi!) and to find someone in this community that cares about respecting victims? 😂 I keep expecting any of you to have a shred of conscience and soul and find myself surprised every time how none of you do.
You sad “Stop using this term” which I only used as a response to someone else already using it. If you read my blog at all—any of them—you’d realize that. Sharing language is part of discussion, which was going on.
“It’s disgusting” you say to a writer of things largely considered terrible and disturbing.
“Here’s a reason why” you said without providing a link, or indeed a reason to trust your source. Frankly, I prefer multiple primary sources.
It was/is anonymous, because you won’t put even a pseudonymous handle to your asks. I understand. It’s easier to be brave when nameless and faceless.
You might want to understand that when I was a flaming passionate teenager on the local BBSes, I socialized weekly in person with the same people I called ignorant and misguided and made a hobby of tearing their assumptions down.
That you will go away if I flip a toggle from “allow anons” to “don’t allow anons” does not impress me with your chosen cause.
Does that make your ask “anon hate”? As I’ve seen it used colloquially on tumblr over the last several years, it seems to fit.
There are a lot of terms I don’t use because they will hurt people, both in groups I am part of and ones I am not. There are terms I use only because I am part of a particular group, and it hurts when outsiders use them in a derogatory manner.
Real victims do indeed exist. A lot of them are in the whump community, both consuming and creating content. It’s not all fiction for all of us, you know? Or maybe you don’t.
You clearly have a lot of anger over a fan-based term. Must be hard for you on a fandom heavy website. You are aware you don’t have to stay here? That you can filter and blacklist terms? That you can curate your feed?’
When you want to have a real discussion, come into the light.

@staff @support @changes
i have a subscription i got last december, not because i care about seeing ads at all, but because tumblr was one of the few social media platforms i genuinely enjoyed. but now everything i liked that made me want to give my money is being eroded away. if avatars are taken away i am ending my subscription.
i know social media sites are expensive to host, if you are using one for free youre probably giving up a lot of your privacy and agency, and i wanted to give money to an online space where everything hadn't been homogenized to death to propel monetization and being turned into a banal influencer hellscape. where people could still be weird, and silly, and creative, and just.. themselves, without trying to sculpt themselves into an empty persona to bring in views and money.
anyway the last few months the features that supported that are being chipped away bit by bit. the new UI is terrible and every bit the corporately flattened experiences of other websites (at least make the left sidebar collapaible so we can actually see the posts??) (p.s. its sooo much harder to find things like drafts, queue, etc, and to navigate from dash to my blog page if you care about usability at all), every 7 days i have a row of naked people i didn't ask to see appear on my dash, and i don't mind seeing naked people at all, but being forced to have anything on my dash i didn't choose to see and especially to force porn onto my dash WHILE maintaining a "porn ban" and punish nsfw artists simultaneously is just disgusting, reports of trans women being flagged for sexual content for just existing as trans women online. and now the avatars being removed, just generally making this a joyless space that isnt for users to enjoy and be creative, but a place to shove advertisers down our throats while being just useable enough to keep us hanging on. maybe while twitter was still functional you encouraged the creative chaos bc it would be too easy for people to just go to twitter if you tried to make it too similar. now it benefits you. i'm sure don't care about my $40 annual fee but whatever. you don't get to have it.

@staff if you want to maintain and grow your user base you have to lean into what makes tumblr unique, not introduce half-baked ideas from other websites.
Marketplace replacing the blog on the main app UI makes no sense:
1) This is a blogging website and you're moving its most personal, primary function in a less trafficked area just to draw attention to a feature that isn't even complete yet. Put profiles/blogs back where they should be and have Marketplace populate the upper right corner - it takes 3 (3!!!) taps to access drafts. This is just bad UI. You can drive more traffic to Marketplace without annoying your users by adding unintrusive visual reminders while scrolling and incorporating a smaller place to access it from high-trafficked areas.
2) The ideas you have for it are very cute but as I mentioned it's barebones right now. I don't even see Blaze listed as a purchaseable in the app version. If you want to keep emulating tiktok introduce more gifts you can give to other users. I think it's a very neat idea.
Lives are a terrible idea:
You have no architecture for livestreaming. You have never been a video-sharing platform. People do not think of tumblr when they want to watch a stream. They will not start thinking of tumblr when they want to watch a stream. Your only external marketing is your social media posts on other websites.
I’m going to assume you’re building this feature from the ground up. Live-streaming has been going through a major shift in the last few years and I’m sorry but tumblr is not the place it is going to take off. Twitch is the OG live-streaming platform and it is suffering. YouTube is still trying to gain a foothold after entering the market 3 years ago. To users it looks like you’re throwing a bunch of popular ideas at the wall right now and seeing what sticks - but this is an incredibly clunky, annoying, high effort-low reward one.
Rather than build your own Live features, improve integration with existing big hitters. Your Twitch integration is already pretty good - all I'd advise would be to find a way to access the chat as well. Add in TikTok integration as well as YouTube integration (you may already have this, I haven't tried it). It doesn't have to stop at lives - for example, Instagram users are able to post TikToks to their stories directly from the app. You could do the same with uploading from tiktok directly to tumblr.
Making the site more attractive (and growing your userbase in a more efficient way):
In-app image editing options (cropping, rotating. You could even make this fun by adding a few tumblr-specific filters that reference site culture)
Improved video uploading & player - offer increased video size for subscribing users.
Improve tag/search function, ESPECIALLY within blogs. People are sick of not being able to search tags on their blogs on mobile, or searching for a post they know they made and having nothing come up. Incorporate more filters beyond post-type (i.e. option to see posts made by a specific user). Expand popularity timeframes (i.e. All Time, Recent, Past Month, Past Year). Look at Reddit's content sorting for inspiration.
Completely lift the NSFW ban. Introduce more robust content moderation filters, and funnel money that's currently going into useless features like Live into content moderation.
Look to Discord Nitro for subscription feature ideas such as animated avatars
Improve the Tipping function - take inspiration from Patreon and Ko-Fi. Maybe introduce a way to subscribe to blogs (can look at Twitch for inspiration for this - custom emotes, etc.)
Re-introduce search function to the main hotbar
Re-introduce editing a post on mobile even if you hadn't added anything after it's been published. Why did you disable this? People want to change tags or add a thought later.
Integrate with Discord - people can visit blogs right off the platform (see photos below)

I love this website and understand it needs to turn a profit, but you can do this without alienating your users!

Some thoughts on various other social media/microblogging websites.
"Pillowfort.social is a new blogging platform where fans and creators alike can share their work, create a community of their own, and do so in a positive and safe environment. Pillowfort aims to be a sort of hybrid of your favorite blogging websites-- keeping the strengths of these platforms while compensating for their shortcomings." Dumb. Terrible name, hate it. Also it just looks like Tumblr so it seems like just another Tumblr clone, but they allow porn.
"We are a free and open-source platform to launch your digital brand, social network and mobile app. We are also a social network ourselves. It is a global social network of social networks. Available in either decentralized or centralized options."
So it's a social media network where you start your own social media network? Shut the fuck up.
"Image enthusiasts united. Discover, repost, contribute and share images stupid simple. Looking for an Tumblr & Reddit alternative, maybe for NSFW content , Thumbtable has you covered."
So like, okay I get that like if you sell NWS content, the Tumblr ban affected you financially and that's not very cool. My issue with the dozens of Tumblr-esque sites, but they allow porn, is that none of them have any users. So who are you selling your content to? Wouldn't it be better to just go on Twitter, where there are more users than Tumblr anyway?
"monocles social is based on mastodon. A privacy friendly social network."
I want every person registered for this site to die.
"Authpad is a frictionless approach to blogging."
Are people like, having issues with blogging that I'm not? Because I feel like this is pretty easy.
"The Dayum is first all in one website on the internet. See the most viral videos, read breaking news, and connect with friends and people around the world!"
So it's like Facebook but for people who are even less connected with the world? That's cool I guess. Stupid name though.
"Known is a simple platform for publishing words, pictures, podcasts and more to a site that you control. Choose to share it on social networks like Twitter and Facebook, or extend it to integrate with the software you already use."
Why does every site act like Facebook or Twitter integration is this desirable feature? If I want to post something to Facebook or Twitter, I'll just post it there. I do in fact post a lot of my text posts to Twitter and Bluesky and sometimes post images to Instagram. It's just easier to do it manually, I don't need every website to be attached to every other account I own. It's fine.
"Squabbles is a new social platform which combines elements of Reddit and Twitter. It takes the best of both worlds where you can both follow the people you love, and have great, in-depth conversations with them and others."
This one made me laugh because like, Reddit and Twitter are pretty much the two worst websites on the planet. And this one is the best of BOTH worlds? Holy shit. Even the name sounds like bickering with people you hate on the internet. "We're Squabbling!"
"a decent(ralised) secure gossip platform sea-slang for gossip - a scuttlebutt is basically a watercooler on a ship." This just makes me miss Yik Yak. I mean, I know they brought it back, but it's not fun anymore. I used to troll Yik Yak so hard. Everyone on there was just a fucking idiot, it was awesome.
Y'know, the other thing about Tumblr clones is somehow they all are worse than Tumblr. Tumblr is the most broken website I've ever used and somehow every clone of it has less features and works worse. How is that even possible? Maybe you just can't make a functional webslte like Tumblr. It's just not possible.
"A stream server that does most of what people really want from a social network."
Whoa.
"We like to think Plurk as a social network for weirdos - the cool, uncompromising and loving community for misfits we all long to have." Lamest userbase on this list, for sure.
"Social sharing blogging friends network - Whaleshares offer its users the opportunity to earn cryptocurrency rewards for posting and sharing content that interests them and that others find value in."
I'm pretty sure nothing I've ever said in my life has any monetary value. So I guess earning cryptocurrency for saying it is actually pretty fitting.
"Whispurr is a new interactive way to stay in touch with people. We all have something to say to those that matter."
Unrelated really, but this reminds me of the app Whisper. Apparently like in cities people use Whisper to meet up and have sex and buy drugs? I mean, I guess people use every app for that so it's not that odd, but Whisper? I don't know. I never got into Whisper tbh. Probably because I live in the middle of nowhere so there's no local posts.
"The new generation social networking client for people who value their time and are tired of information noise. Requires Adobe Air."
Okay I'm sorry but
Tumblr media
This is the most cluttered UI I've ever seen on a social network website. Fuck off.
"Member.cash is a micro-blogging platform that uses the BCH blockchain for storing posts. Posts are impossible to delete and since member.cash uses an open protocol (memo), other websites can show the same posts."
Interesting. Posts you can't delete. That seems like a feature people would want.
I don't know dude. A lot of the newer social media sites seem like they're probably based on interesting technology, I just. It's all like decentralized and self-hosted and it's not actually a website it just saves your blog to your Dropbox and everyone is their own social media site and like it all just sounds fucking retarded to me.
I'm sorry, I'm not sure that this post was entertaining or funny to begin with, but it's certainly not after it's gone on for this long. My bad.

🔐 Why You (Probably) Don't Need A VPN
A rant by a software engineer sick of VPN ads from her favourite YouTubers
TL;DR:
Here are some legitimate reasons the average internet user might want to use a VPN:
To connect to their company's internal network
To bypass the Great Firewall of China (or other types of website blocks at country or organisation level)
To watch Netflix etc as if you were in another country
Here are absolutely rubbish reasons to use a VPN:
Privacy
And today, I'll tell you why.
Hang on, won't a VPN stop hackers from stealing my passwords?
I mean, it does encrypt the web traffic coming from your device.
You know what else encrypts web traffic coming from your device? Your browser.
Yes, in the year 2021, pretty much all websites on the internet are accessed over HTTPS. The "S" stands for "secure", as in "your request will be securely encrypted". If your browser is using HTTPS, nobody can capture the data you're sending over the internet. More detail in the "I like too much detail" section at the bottom of this post.
It's very easy to check if you are using HTTPS by looking at your URL bar. In most browsers, it will have a lock on it if secure:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(From top left to bottom right: Chrome on iOS, Safari on iOS, Chrome on Windows, Edge on Windows, Firefox on Windows, and Safari on Mac. Screenshots reflect the UI at the time this post was written. Oh gosh this has taken over 4 hours to write.)
But isn't moar encryption better? What if somebody breaks HTTPS?
For starters, nobody's breaking your HTTPS, and there isn't any benefit from double encrypting. This is because of the maths behind encryption/decryption!
Encryption works kinda like a lock and key, except the lock is maths and the key is a special number only known to the person allowed to unlock the information.
The important thing is, without the key, all the locked data looks like complete and utter garbage. Completely unusable. Barely distinguishable from random noise. There's absolutely no way to tell what the original data was.
The other important thing is that the key is nearly unguessable. As in, with current technology, will generally take more than the lifetime of the universe to guess by chance. And when technology gets faster, we just make the numbers bigger again until they're once again secure.
For any major website you use, they will use a strong encryption algorithm (ie lock) with big numbers so your keys will be strong enough to withstand an attack. This means your data is safe as long as that lock icon is in your URL bar.
A VPN will not make the existing garble any more garbled. The extra $10/month or whatever you're paying for does not buy you any extra protection.
If you want to know more about how encryption and HTTPS in particular work, see the "I like too much detail" section at the end of this post.
Something something viruses
How's a VPN going to stop viruses? It controls the path your internet traffic takes, not the content that gets sent down that path. I guess it could block some known virus-giving hosts? But if it's known to the VPN provider, it's probably also known to the built-in antivirus on your computer who can block it for you.
(Oh yeah, 3rd party antivirus is another thing that's not worth paying for these days. Microsoft's built-in Windows Defender is as good as the third party options, and something something Macs don't get viruses easily because of how they're architected.)
Honestly though, keep your software up to date, don't click on anything suspicious, don't open files from sources you don't trust, and you'll be right most of the time.
And keep your software up to date. Then update your software. Hey, did I mention keeping your stuff updated? Update! Now! It only takes a few minutes. Please update to the latest version of your software I'm begging you. It's the number 1 way to protect yourself from viruses and other malware. Most major software attacks could have been prevented if people just updated their damn software!
But my ISP is spying on me!
Ok, it is true that there are TWO bits of data that HTTPS can't and won't hide. Those are:
The source of a request (your IP)
What website that request is going to (the website's IP)
These are the bits of information that routers use to know where to send your data, so of course they can't be hidden as the data is moving across the internet. And people can see that information very easily if they want to.
Note: this will show which website you're going to, but not which page you're looking at, and not the content of that page. So it will show that you were on Tumblr, but will not show anyone that you're still reading SuperWhoLock content in 2021.
It's this source/destination information that VPNs hide, which is why they can be used to bypass website blocks and region locks.
By using a VPN, those sniffing traffic on your side of the VPN will just show you connecting to the VPN, not the actual website you want. That means you can read AO3 at work/school without your boss/teachers knowing (unless they look over your shoulder of course).
As for those sniffing on the websites end, including the website itself, they will see the VPN as the source of the connection, not you. So if you're in the US and using a VPN node in the UK, Netflix will see you as being in the UK and show you their British library rather than the American one.
If this is what you're using a VPN for and you think the price is fair, then by all means keep doing it! This is 100% what VPNs are good for.
HOWEVER, and this is a big "however", if it's your ISP you're trying to hide your internet traffic from, then you will want to think twice before using a VPN.
Let me put it this way. Without a VPN, your ISP knows every website you connect to and when. With a VPN, do you know who has that exact same information? The VPN provider. Sure, many claim to not keep logs, but do you really trust the people asking for you to send them all your data for a fee to not just turn around and sell your data on for a profit, or worse?
In effect, you're trading one snooper for another. One snooper is heavily regulated, in many jurisdictions must obey net neutrality, and is already getting a big fee from you regardless of where you browse. The other isn't. Again, it's all a matter of who you trust more.
For me personally, I trust my ISP more than a random VPN provider, if for no other reason than my ISP is an old enough company with enough inertia and incompetence that I don't think they could organise to sell my data even if they wanted to. And with the amount of money I'm paying them per month, they've only got everything to lose if they broke consumer trust by on-selling that data. So yeah, I trust my ISP more with my privacy than the random VPN company.
But my VPN comes with a password manager!
Password managers are great. I 100% recommend you use a password manager. If there's one thing you could do right now to improve your security (other than updating your software, speaking of, have you updated yet?), it's getting and using a password manager.
Password managers also come for free.
I'm currently using LastPass free, but am planning to switch after they did a bad capitalism and only let their free accounts access either laptop or mobile but not both now. I personally am planning to move to Bitwarden on friends' recommendation since it's not only free but open source and available across devices. I also have friends who use passbolt and enjoy it, which is also free and open source, but it's also a bit DIY to set up. Great if you like tinkering though! And there are probably many other options out there if you do a bit of googling.
So, yeah, please use a password manager, but don't pay for it unless you actually have use for the extra features.
No I really need to hide my internet activity from everybody for reasons
In this case, you're probably looking for TOR. TOR is basically untraceable. It's also a terrible user experience for the most part because of this, so I'd only recommend it if you need it, such as if you're trying to escape the Great Firewall. But please don't use it for Bad Crimes. I am not to be held liable for any crime committed using information learned from this post.

If you want to know more about why you don't need a VPN, see Tom Scott's amazing video on the subject. It's honestly a great intro for beginners.
I like too much detail
Ahhh, so you're the type of person who doesn't get turned off by long explanations I see. Well, here's a little more info on the stuff I oversimplified in the main post about encryption. Uhh, words get bigger and more jargony in this section.
So first oversimplification: the assumption that all web traffic is either HTTP or HTTPS. This isn't exactly true. There are many other application layer internet standards out there, such as ssh, ftp, websockets, and all the proprietary standards certain companies use for stuff such as streaming and video conferencing. Some of these are secure, using TLS or some other security algorithm under the hood, and some of them aren't.
But most of the web requests you care about are HTTP/HTTPS calls. As for the rest, if they come from a company of a decent size that hasn't been hacked off the face of the planet already, they're probably also secure. In other words, you don't need to worry about it.
Next, we've already said that encryption works as a lock and a key, where the lock is a maths formula and the key is a number. But how do we get that key to lock and unlock the data?
Well, to answer that, we first need to talk about the two different types of encryption: symmetric and asymmetric. Symmetric encryption such as AES uses the same key to both encrypt and decrypt data, whereas asymmetric encryption such as RSA uses a different key to encode and decode.
For the sake of my writing, we're going to call the person encrypting Alice, the person decrypting Bob, and the eavesdropper trying to break our communications Eve from now on. These are standard names in crypto FYI. Also, crypto is short for cryptography not cryptocurrencies. Get your Bitcoin and Etherium outta here!
Sorry if things start getting incoherent. I'm tired. It's after 1am now.
So first, how do we get the key from symmetric crypto? This is probably the easier place to start. Well, you need a number, any number of sufficient size, that both Alice and Bob know. There are many ways you could share this number. They could decide it when they meet in person. They could send it to each other using carrier pigeons. Or they could radio it via morse code. But those aren't convenient, and somebody could intercept the number and use it to read all their messages.
So what we use instead is a super clever algorithm called Diffie-Hellman, which uses maths and, in particular, the fact it's really hard to factor large numbers (probably NP Hard to be specific, but there's no actual proof of that). The Wikipedia page for this is surprisingly easy to read, so I'll just direct you there to read all about it because I've been writing for too long. This algorithm allows Alice and Bob to agree on a secret number, despite Eve being able to read everything they send each other.
Now Alice and Bob have this secret number key, they can talk in private. Alice puts her message and the key into the encryption algorithm and out pops what looks like a load of garbage. She can then send this garbage to Bob without worrying about Eve being able to read it. Bob can then put the garbage and the key into the decryption algorithm to undo the scrambling and get the original message out telling him where the good donuts are. Voila, they're done!
But how does Alice know that she's sending her message to Bob and not Eve? Eve could pretend to be Bob so that Alice does the Diffie-Hellman dance with her instead and sends her the secret location of the good donuts instead.
This is where asymmetric crypto comes in! This is the one with private and public keys, and the one that uses prime numbers.
I'm not 100% across the maths on this one TBH, but it has something to do with group theory. Anyway, just like Diffie-Hellman, it relies on the fact that prime factorisation is hard, and so it does some magic with semi-primes, ie numbers with only 2 prime factors other than 1. Google it if you want to know more. I kinda zoned out of this bit in my security courses. Maths hard
But the effect of that maths is easier to explain: things that are encoded with one of the keys can only be decoded with the other key. This means that one of those keys can be well-known to the public and the other is known only to the person it belongs to.
If Alice wants to send a message to Bob and just Bob, no Eve allowed, she can first look up Bob's public key and encrypt a beginning message with that. Once Bob receives the message, he can decrypt it with his private key and read the contents. Eve can't read the contents though because, even though she has Bob's public key, she doesn't know his private key.
This public key information is what the lock in your browser is all about BTW. It's saying that the website is legit based on the public key they provide.
So why do we need symmetric crypto when we have asymmetric crypto? Seems a lot less hassle to exchange keys with asymmetric crypto.
Well, it's because asymmetric crypto is slooooow. So, in TLS, the security algorithm that puts the "S" in "HTTPS", asymmetric RSA is used to establish the initial connection and figure out what symmetric key to use, and then the rest of the session uses AES symmetric encryption using the agreed secret key.
And there you have it! Crypto in slightly-less-short-but-still-high-enough-level-that-I-hope-you-understand.
Just realised how long this section is. Well, I did call it "too much detail" for a reason.
Now, next question is what exactly is and isn't encrypted using HTTPS.
Well, as I said earlier, it's basically just the source IP:port and the destination IP:port. In fact, this information is actually communicated on the logical layer below the application layer HTTPS is on, known as the transport layer. Again, as I said before, you can't really encrypt this unless you don't want your data to reach the place you want at all.
Also, DNS is unencrypted. A DNS request is a request that turns a domain name, such as tumblr.com, into an IP address, by asking a special server called a Domain Name Server where to find the website you're looking for. A DNS request is made before an HTTP(S) request. Anyone who can read your internet traffic can therefore tell you wanted to go to Tumblr.
But importantly, this only shows the domain name, not the full URL. The rest of the URL, the part after the third slash (the first two slashes being part of http://), is stuff that's interpreted by the server itself and so isn't needed during transport. Therefore, it encrypted and completely unreadable, just like all the content on your page.
I was going to show a Wireshark scan of a web request using HTTP and HTTPS to show you the difference, but this has taken long enough to write as it is, so sorry!
I could probably write more, but it's 1:30am and I'm sleepy. I hope you found some of this interesting and think twice before purchasing a VPN subscription. Again, there are legit good uses for a VPN, but they're not the ones primarily being advertised in VPN ads. It's the fact that VPN ads rely so heavily on false advertising that really grinds my gears and made me want to do this rant. It's especially bad when it comes from somebody I'd think of as technologically competent (naming no names here, but if you've worked in tech and still promote VPNs as a way to keep data safe... no). Feel free to ask questions if you want and hopefully I'll get around to answering any that I feel I know enough to answer.
Nighty night Tumblr. Please update your software. And use a (free) password manager. And enable two factor authentication on all your accounts. But mostly just update your software.

would you ever consider making an Instagram?
Tumblr media
I've been asked this a few times before. In the past, Instagram only had the ability to post square photos, which for a lot of the costumes documented here just was not in the cards, and thus not worth it. So I always said no, I wasn't going to bother with Instagram. But the square image is no longer a requirement, so...
My second issue has just always been time. Keeping the site and Tumblr and Twitter running has been a lot of work. I've been terrible about keeping Facebook and Pinterest updated. Up until a few months ago, I was working 16 hour days pretty consistently at my everyday job, so adding another social channel just felt like asking for trouble.
All of that being said. I recognize the importance of Instagram, and I am working hard on making some changes to the site, which I hope will be implemented sometime in mid to late 2022, which I hope will give me more time to dedicate to other things. So it's entirely possible that I will add an Instagram account. I don't want to promise that, but please know I do take these kinds of requests very seriously, and I am working hard towards trying to make that happen - I just have to make some other things happen first. I know this all sounds a long way off, but I am making daily strides towards these changes.

salut. as you might have noticed just from my personal posts, I have been doing generally really fucking bad these past few days. outside of the posts, I've been getting caught in a vicious cycle of looking at the news every hour or so trying to find out any developments, especially anything that might indicate aggression targeted at my country. tumblr is contributing to that. while providing helpful information, it's also a platform where I can, and do, get caught in this cycle of endless doomscrolling. I've decided to take a break from this website because I don't know how much more my mental health can take if I keep it up like this. I'm going to try and reduce the amount of time I spend looking at the news outside of this website as well. I am terribly sorry if this comes off as selfish, or dramatic, or like I'm making it all about myself. please understand, my country is on the border of the one currently being invaded and I'm finding it hard to focus on anything other than this. I know people are hurt and dying and losing their homes and families. please trust that I will be doing as much as I can offline to help those in need. I just need to keep myself alive and sane in order to do that. I don't want these to be our parting words, but just in case they are: I love you, thank you for being with me and supporting me and spending precious minutes of your life reading my posts and interacting with them, thank you for being my friends. please don't ever forget about me, please don't ever give up on your ambitions, please keep trying to make the world a better place. if you take away anything from me and my entire internet presence, let it be this: true love is real and it's the most important thing in the world. if you're lucky enough to happen upon it, please cherish the people in your life who make you feel that way. we'll talk again, in better times, I hope.

I'm really disappointed that dol is on TikTok. It's hard to explore darker topics online especially when there are minor to adult interactions.
I'm not shaming enjoying dark content, you must get a choice in interacting with it.
DoL is a game you discover by choice and should never something you randomly see while looking at silly videos. rape is already a dark topic, but that's just the iceberg of DoL.
If you want a good example of how minors were treated badly / incorrectly, please think of my little pony. It's a good show for all ages and fan content is encouraged, however forcing unfiltered content on public platforms is terrible. Little kids didn't need to know about all these pony horror stories or how pinkie goes psycho.
We're lucky that Tumblr has ways to block tags or certain words because that's a rare choice you get. The internet isn't that simple or safe :(
This thinking point has always been a difficult one.
Because it doesn't matter if you create a website that is adult only. Without the ability to check IDs of users (which could easily get leaked and that's its own nightmare) then you have things where you just have to check a little box to confirm being over 18. And I don't know if you remember being a kid, but those signs mean fucking nothing. The tiktok thing is a prime example. Hell, even pre-internet how many things did you see of teens with magazines, gossiping with friends, "peeping toms".
So what can we do? We can dissappear into our private spaces - like discord servers. Until companies like Apple decide to ban nsfw content from their app store, making discord have to choose losing a large client, or keeping its freedom, just like tumblr.
And it doesn't fucking matter if you ban nsfw content in order to get rid of CSEM, or videos uploaded without permission of everyone in them. Because those who want those things will just find a sneakier way to get their jollies off.
So content creators - because of the stupidity of others and large companies - have to come up with things like the citrus scale. Have to figure out how to tag safely. Because we want our content to be seen and to have a community where we can share our thoughts and make friends, just like anyone else. We want our media choice to thrive and not die. DoL likely wouldn't be as big as it is without the ability to share content of it publically. Nor would BTD, nor would any hardcore game, anime, show, book, or whatever. As much as some hate fandoms, they fucking spread the word like nothing else.
And of course there's the issue of children's content becoming sexual. Which you see all of the fucking time. Not even MLP (even if it was/is rampant there), but I've seen a lot of porn of Disney characters. You remember Elsagate? That shit wasn't just adults finding a children's character attractive, it was using them to groom kids, too.
But adults still enjoy those happy shows. They still feel as much joy as the kids consuming them, and therefore want to use it to produce adult things. So what can they do, to appreciate their interests safely? Not a fucking lot. Just tagging. That's all we're left with. And it's getting harder and harder every day.
And let's not even mention the adult fandoms overrun by entitled children. That shit makes my blood boil. It's 🔪 not 🔪 for 🔪 you. Stop it. You're going to be groomed - if not, your mind will be warped into unhealthy ways of thinking. Trust me. I was one of you.
