Tim: Oh no! There's TWO Casses! Steph, excited: Wow! Tim: Steph, this is a bad thing. One of them is an imposter. Steph: Oh yeah. Duke with a gun: How do we know which one is the fake? One Cass, pointing at the other Cass: Shoot her! She's the imposter! *everyone immediately shoots the Cass who spoke* Damian: You idiot, giving yourself away like that. Cassandra would NEVER pass up the opportunity to die! Cass: Cass: Is that really how you guys see me? Everyone else: Yes.

batgirl 2000 reread pt 2!!!
Back 2 batgirl..Cass has to have some of the worst daddy issues in the whole family and that's saying so much like between Bruce and Cain she deserves billions of dollars in compensation for all the all the way fucked up and over shit they put her through that she doesn't even have the capacity to work through yet
Tumblr media
also this little interaction made me smile, average bat conversation
Tumblr media
obsessed w how they integrate cass into the Bruce wayne: murderer storyline. We're operating fully from cass's perspective here and the whole thing is formatted like any other case she's taken on. we get exposition as cass investigates but there's a feeling of uneasiness as she paces the manor. she fully doesn't know who this guy is but we do. we do.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
truly one of the most iconic ways anyones ever figured out his identity. she knows him so deeply that she's able to recognize the pure unbridled determination and fury in his eyes just from a picture
Cassandra cain truly stays unmatched, the "I'll kill you" "not tonight" panel hits just as hard as when I first read it. I need a physical copy of this shit NEOWWW. also cass's ability to recognize that Shiva is just as suicidal as she is, that in fighting each other their both fulfilling the others death wish..like we know she isn't going to kill her from the start but it makes the decision all the more powerful
EEEK she's so cutest patootest..she's a detective
Tumblr media Tumblr media
cass if projecting onto every case she dealt with was a job..
Tumblr media
srsly tho the whole alpha arc thing was sooo good especially when it came to cass's immovable belief that even people with the most diabolical histories are capable of change, are worth saving
ermmm..the lawyers are advising me not to discuss the stephcass drama issue at this current time..thank you
idk how I missed the political commentary the first time but issue 43 got it. FAWK AMERICA
I love this comic I LOVE THIS COMIC!!! I love love love when Cass has a conversation that leads her to experiment which leads her to self discovery. oh my god. truly baffled and disgusted as she discovers gender roles, she just like me fr
Tumblr media Tumblr media
THIS^^^^^^ is so, it's such a good way of broadcasting cass's insecurities and emotions to the audience. unlike a lot of characters cass rarely ever says what she's feeling, even when asked she'll often lie. it's either that or a lack of self awareness/means of communication when it comes to her own emotions. BUT this also shows that cass is aware of the complex interpersonal dynamics and drama around her. Usually these things are just implied like when Cass wordlessly punches the shit out of dick for making babs cry, but this is one of the first times in the comic where these things that cass had been feeling and hearing are told instead of shown [which is pretty 50/50 considering the kinda jarring writer switch but I think this specifically was a cool choice]
Cass has a tendency to avoid emotional topics centered around her all together but at the climax of this arc she's forced to confront very conflicting views of her identity, social pressures, and her own insecurities.
this part got to me BAD
Tumblr media
Cass's pure and utter devastation in response to Bruce attempting to fire her (I say attempt bcs that shit barely lasted a day) is so gutwrenching. batgirl was the first name she ever had, the first identity as a human being she'd ever had. Not to mention her suicidal-perfectionism. For Batman of all people to say those things to her, not only does she not have anything outside of batgirl (partially BECAUSE of him) but she's literally as close to perfect as it gets, matter a fact bruce literally calls her perfect. To be accused of jeopardizing the mission, despite that she might be the only person who values it just as much as bruce does..No wonder she shatters into a billion pieces when he does that to her. she has nothing else to be if she's not batgirl.

Supernatural: The Rupture (15x03)
Well... damn?
Cons:
In the first two reviews of this season, I talked a lot about how this season was going to lean really hard into the nostalgia. I had high hopes about the return of some of these characters, and while I did really like this episode, I'm getting a bit concerned. Last week, Kevin showed up only to immediately leave again. This week, after Ketch's close call last week, he's killed off, Rowena dies, and then Belphegor also bites the dust. So a lot of stuff that was just getting set up is suddenly off the table. On the one hand, I like it when things are unpredictable and move at a quick pace. On the other hand, this feels a bit too familiar to me. Supernatural has a pattern. The first three episodes are all A-plot focused, and then we've got to ratchet back the tension so we can do some monster-of-the-week stuff. That's fine, that's expected. But we've already rushed through so many of the things I thought this season was going to focus on, and I have a feeling that the tension and drama is going to drop off. We've only got seventeen precious episodes left! I don't know if it was Rowena or Belphegor or even Ketch's time to go just yet.
Yo... Dean wicked needs to apologize to Cas. That was rough stuff. I loved the angst, don't get me wrong, but I hope Dean is held responsible for his actions. I hope we get a real in-depth look at Dean's anger issues and he realizes that he's the one in the wrong here. This isn't so much a problem with the episode as it is a worry for the future - I hope they do this plot thread justice.
And for my one and only petty complaint - it bothers me that they insist on sticking to their guns with the stupid idea of spelling Castiel's name "Cass." Like... stop. It's wrong. We all know it's wrong.
Pros:
Ketch gets this totally depressing yet oddly bad-ass death where he refuses to turn on the Winchesters even when facing down death. There's a part of me that wants to say it doesn't really matter, because he's done so many terrible things to the boys that this act of sacrifice doesn't redeem him. But maybe redemption isn't the point. Crowley and Rowena both also died to help the Winchesters, and that doesn't erase the harm they've done over the years, but it does show that they're capable of change. If Supernatural has a single unifying thesis statement, it's all about free will. And that means that Sam and Dean fight to make their own choices. But it also means that people don't fit into prescribed roles. Villains can do heroic things, heroes can do villainous things. Ketch can't erase his evil past, but he can do what he can to help the people he believes in, here at the end. I was oddly touched by his loyalty, there in his final moments.
Belphegor... honestly, I wasn't quite ready to say goodbye to him. He was a lot of fun. We got that teaser at the end of Season Fourteen showing Jack with Billie, so we can assume that Alex Calvert isn't gone-gone. But honestly, while I was a little sad to say goodbye to such a fun character so quickly, this was the one subversion of my expectations that I ultimately think was a very smart move. If Belphegor had stuck around, he would have felt like Crowley 2.0 in all the bad ways, instead of just the good ones. By that I mean that he would have been a kind-of-sort-of adversary who would hang around in the background and be available whenever he was needed, to conveniently provide a power-up to a Winchester in need. All of the fun and snark gets sucked out of a character like that pretty quickly, the moment you realize they're not a real threat. This way, we see that he was playing nice for a specific and nearly-achievable goal. Cas stops him, and the price is Rowena's life, and there it ends. That was pretty satisfying.
Rowena. I wish we could have had more time with her. But if she had to die, what a way to go. I mean, I'd be remiss if I did not point out how annoying it is to lose one of the few female characters still remaining on this show. It's annoying. But so many women have died in a way that can only be classified as being "fridged." And this was not that. Yes, Sam is going to have his "man pain" over Rowena's death or whatever, but she made a choice. She sacrificed herself, going against a lifetime of selfishness and an imperative desire to live no matter the cost. And the fact that it had to be at Sam's hands was just the perfect amount of heartbreak.
I seriously adore the way they portrayed Sam and Rowena's relationship. It's not textually romantic, but... it could have been. And there's an open acknowledgment of that. Sam hasn't experienced a lot of tender affection in his life, and you can see from his behavior with any and all of his love interests over the years that it's something he really craves. Rowena was genuinely kind to him, in her own strange way, and that's something Sam is going to miss terribly. It's strange, because on paper this scene plays in to so many story-telling cliches. A man forced to kill his girlfriend for the greater good. But Rowena wasn't Sam's girlfriend. She wasn't there just to be a female character for him to cry over. She was a fully realized character and the decision that she and Sam came together to make was one of great sacrifice and integrity. Rowena was a fantastic and surprising character on this show. She came to mean more to me than I would have expected, and if she had to go, then this was a pretty bad-ass way for it to happen.
We had a nice little moment of Dean checking up on Sam. I like that once again there isn't anything explicit being said here - Dean doesn't say "I know you were kind of maybe in love with her a little bit, so sorry man." He doesn't have to say that. It's implied, and Sam knows that Dean knows, and maybe that's enough. It was a nice little understated moment.
As much as my heart broke for Sam here, let's end this review with the Destiel breakup. Because holy moly oh my God. As I said, I'm not about to get my hopes up about anything like a real reciprocal confirmation. But what they're giving us is just... everything I never knew I needed. There have been plenty of legitimate criticisms over the years that Cas will do anything in the world for Dean, and that Dean doesn't appreciate it, and treats him like a tool to use to solve all of his problems. In this moment, Cas is at the end of his rope. He did his best, but he's grieving for Jack, and his powers aren't working, and Dean doesn't have the time or the inclination to listen to anything he has to say. No wonder he's fed up, no wonder he's heartbroken. No wonder he leaves. I can't wait for Dean to make amends for this. I can't wait for Sam to take him to task for pushing away their best friend.
Everything about the scene - Misha's performance in particular - was just so achingly tragic. It was a break-up. It was Cas saying that for his own mental well-being, he needed to break up with his toxic boyfriend. They even played the sad Supernatural theme as Cas walked away. And I think it's telling that the episode ends on that note. You could have flipped the final two scenes - had Cas leave dramatically, and then end with Dean comforting Sam, telling him that they've succeeded, and commiserating about Rowena. But no - the final beat is Dean standing there, as the camera pulls away and shows him alone in the bunker, with Castiel walking away from him. Jensen's performance was great as well. He's so angry with Cas, and so unwilling to bend. But maybe this will be the moment that he realizes that he takes Cas for granted. That he expects him to always do what Dean says, and be there when he's wanted. I just adore the fact that here, in the final season of this show, the problems in Dean and Cas' relationship are getting a real focus. Even if it doesn't go as far as I would ideally like, it will still be so much fun to explore!
And that's that. What a sad episode of Supernatural! It got me feeling all sorts of feelings, let me tell ya. And my complaints were actually not about this episode in isolation, more about my worries for the middle section of this season. So for that reason, this is getting a pretty high score!
9/10

Chapter Reviews: June 18-22, 2019 + Plan for TRH
Wishful thinking Chapter 11:
Dang, things have gotten more tense because of Charlie forcing the MC to accept a bribe to pay for her dad's medical bills in order to silence her. What's really crazy is that Anna coincidentally arrived at the hospital after Charlie left.
Ouch at the MC losing her telepathy. And even more so when Aubrey said he wished she would say something to make him feel better. Honestly, what is wrong with this selfish moron? The MC's dad just got hospitalized, which is causing her stress, and that is what he said? If he wants to feel better, then he sould've just go back to reading his explicit books for all I care. At least Jaime and Anna are more supportive.
Well, hello there, Ellen. I know we'll have to work with you to take Charlie down. Sure she's no saint, but there's no denying that she's up to something, and she has made valid points. Not to mention that she mentioned working on an environmental piece, which foreshadows this whole shebang. Considering it a situation where the enemy of my enemy is my friend, though the MC and Ellen are still far from friendly to each other.
Nightbound Chapter 10:
The fight against zombies was pretty intense as far as I'm concerned. I'm glad everyone, MC included, put up a good fight. Even better was when I picked the premium option to sound the horn and summon a giant alligator to fight the zombies. The real and pleasant surprise is that the alligator AKA Chompers is surprisingly friendly towards the MC. I hope to see it again.
I kinda didn't expect the bloodwraith summoner to be revealed in the middle, mainly because I thought it would be revealed near the end. Anyway, I find Cassiopeia and Thomas intriguing characters. Cass was undoubtedly used by Thomas, who exploited her desperation for companionship stemming from childhood. That didn't excuse her actions, but it ensures that her actions and motivations make sense. Likewise, Thomas's hatred of the supernatural coming from their perceived abuse of power shows how one can go great lengths in response to perceived injustices. Definitely captured my whole interest.
I'm looking forward to see how the meeting with Lord Elric goes as well as his monster tear. What if he has secrets to share for the MC?
Passport to Romance Chapter 15:
I feel like I'm not shown much of London aside from the Tower Bridge and a few food the main cast at, but I never saw any pictures of. Just shows how this book fails to immerse me in terms of both plot and decisions. I don't even pick the option to help Marisa call Tristao out, for instance.
Honestly, what is up with William suddenly promoting Elliot to a top spot in the family company? At least there's a board member who objected to it because she knows Elliot is unqualified for the job. I mean, all he does is mooch off of the family money as he travels around the world.
At first, it seems like the main cast finally gets a taste of what it feels like to not having enough money to keep up with their blog, but because of this story, they finally find a way to do it *cough*Elliot*cough*. And not to mention Yvette's right to be angry at the MC's ungrateful behavior for their unprofessional behavior.
Honestly, it's good riddance that this story's a standalone. I was okay with it for the first few chapters, but nothing really interesting happened, and my interest gradually decreased. There really should've been conflict in this story aside from the MC's struggle with maintaining their blog's integrity amidst Yvette's demands, but even then it has little effect on the story. Not to mention that the main cast isn't that great except Sumire, who's ultimately wasted potential because she doesn't even have a subplot nor any conflict with anyone.
Platinum Chapter 5:
When Ellis Knight said he's providing the MC the best apartment for her, I was expecting a recycled background art of Adrian Raines's luxurious suite, not Nadia Park's apartment. Oh well. At least Platinum MC's rise to fame is less easier than I thought. Yet at the same time, I need to keep an eye on Ellis because he might pose a threat in the next book if this story turns out to be a success.
Anyway, I like Zadie, Ozone, Luna, and Wade already. The clothes Zadie provides to the MC are beautiful, and I look forward to work with the other three.
I'm still uninterested in the romance aspect. Sure it's nice to have friends among famous singers like Avery and Raleigh, but as I've said earlier, I'm burnt out on the romance aspect that I just need to shift my focus away from it. That hasn't stopped me from feeling cautious on the potential scandal my MC just got herself into with Raleigh, however.
Red Carpet Diaries Chapter 3:
Why are we using Chazz's vision instead of coming up with my own? And why does he suggest cutting out an important female lead? As a player, I barely know about this Secret of Ninradell crap, yet the narrative doesn't allow me to know what it's all about. At least he's right about not every movie having to be romance. This should apply to most, if not all, Choices stories, even if getting rid of Byrony would ruin the movie.
Meeting with Marianne was okay, though it was also weird that she also suggested getting rid of Byrony. I seriously think she shoehorned the romance aspect of her book. At least the MC has the rights to the movie.
Premium scenes with Hunt and Matt? No thanks. I'm interested in neither, not to mention that I've chosen to be exclusive with Victoria.
The Elementalists Chapter 11:
It was nice and relaxing to spend time with Shreya and learn more about her family. I admire her and Nehal's ambition, and I wish her luck in her achevements.
I picked the premium outfit but not the hair because I love the former and feel eh about the latter. It doesn't do much aside from compliments, but I still love the outfit. Anyway, it was fairly easy to get Kavya's support despite the chaos that was about to follow. And I finally get answers from Greygarden Waithe. Man, I can't wait to see how this mystery unravels.
Bloodbound Chapter 6:
Dang, that was a mind-blowing chapter! Seeing Gaius fight against the council member easily grabbed my full attention. Every time Adrian and Kamilah seemed to have an upper hand, he easily showed them he isn't to be trifled with. Thank goodness they, along with the MC and Jax made it out safely.
Oh, of course Priya is in cahoots with Gaius. I never liked her since I first played Bloodbound, and. Sure she's a cunning villain, but she's also really psychopathic, selfish, and egotistical. Can't wait to bring her down to a peg like I did with Nicole.
Pity I couldn't afford to go after Jameson and determine his fate. This premium option is definitely on my to-pick list.
Man, Lester's death recorded live and used to persuade vampires to join his cause or die sets the tone for darker things to come. My guess is that Clans Raines, Sayeed, and Matsuo will oppose him while the other three will join him. Regarding Lester, he's starting to remind me of Jocelyn Wu in some ways. Sure they're unsavory people, but they set their priorities straight. In Jocelyn's case, she may be a bully, but she knows the moss creatures Redfield unleashed are a true threat compared to her targets. In Lester's case, he knows the feral problem and Gaius are bigger threats to his power than some clanless upstart like Jax. He's someone I have a begrudging respect for.
Anyone upset that Kamilah and Lily are sidelined for now in favor of Adrian and Jax? A part of me thinks Lily should've gone instead of Jax because of her technological expertise that might come in handy. As for this Seraphine lady, I'll see whether she's friend or foe.
On The Royal Heir:
For The Royal Heir, I've decided not to write reviews on this. Instead, I'm writing something like annals that embellish the MC's journey. Stay tuned for them.

“Patience” - thoughts on symbolism
This episode had some very intriguing imagery. Here are some things I noticed and my thoughts about them, enjoy :-)
1. Colours:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
During the first scene there is a very strong focus on the colours purple and blue. Because of the signs in the windows the room inside is also illuminated by purple and blue light during the whole scene. The curtain springs to eye aswell. Of course the first of the main characters to walk behind said curtain is Dean a couple of scenes later:
Tumblr media
Light floods in and highligts the curtain’s colours. Now, the curtain reminded me of a veil, the veil of death, that can be pierced by gay love ;-)
The colours may not reference to Dean directly in the first scene, but sure enough reach our subconscious and thereby maybe foreshadow something… The colours are also very prominent in the news flash Dean watches at the Gas ‘n Sip. Even the reporter’s clothes fit the pattern:
Tumblr media
2. The tarot cards:
Tumblr media
In my opinion one of the best symbolism used in this episode! I‘m no expert with tarot cards, but I did some research. Here’s what the cards themselves mean (in general):
The first layed out card was the Ten of Coins, standing for success, energies you now have newly gained and the positive use of your intuition.
The second card is the King of Cups. It stands for gaining back control over your emotions, which might be in turmoil.
The Hermit is the third card, standing for a path you have to walk down on your own, leading towards your own personal light.
Last but not least: the Hanged Man. A futile situation could be solved all by itself by being patient.
The cards also refer to self, present, past and future, aswell as the recipient’s wishes. One card is still missing, but she never gets to the point where she could lay out that last card.
Who could the cards refer to and what does it all mean? My interpretation:
The wraith (as he is the direct recipient): He wishes for success with his newly gained taste for psychics. Maybe he is in control over his emotions, walking down a path to his success all by himself. He should be patient, but, as the episode turns out, isn’t, which leads to his demise.
Patience: Patience will learn about her powers this episode and if she follows her intuition, she will turn out just fine (she actually does that this episode already, intuitively listening to her powers and saving her Dad, Jody an Dean in the process). Patience will be gaining back control over her emotions concerning Missouri, because she will learn the truth about what happened in the past. In the future she will have to choose which path to walk down: normalty or the path of a psychic. She has to choose alone, for what she thinks is best for her and this will lead her to her personal light. The last card is self explainatory: patience.
Jack: Jack has new powers aswell (he’s paralleled to Patience during the whole episode) and if he follows his own intuition, he will be allright (just like he follows his intuition when he reaches out to Cass in the empty). But he also has to regain control over his feelings (”am I bad” vs. “am I good”) in order to succeed. Also he has to choose which path to walk down in the future (beautifully higlighted by Kelly: Jack doesn’t have to listen to anyone saying who he’s supposed to be, he can choose who he wants to be). If he is true to himself, he will reach his personal light, too. But in order to get there, he needs patience. The situation he’s in right now can’t be rushed and he needs time to figure himself and his powers out.
TFW: The coins on the Ten of Coins are painted in the crude shape of the Tree of Life, which could stand for Cass’s resurrection. The second card might be representative for Dean, whose emotions are in utter turmoil right now, but he might eventually be able to become aware of his emotions and their cause and like that he will regain control. The Hermit card could stand for Sam and Dean representatively. Up to this point each one of them has his own understandable reasons for how they deal with Jack. Unlike to many times before each of them stands their ground and walks down their own path up to now. Maybe it will lead them to their personal light: Sam will get Mary back and Dean Cass. The Hanged Man could stand for all of TFW, because they have to be patient until i.e. the situation with Jack resolves itself. But this card is also linked to Cass: when we finally see him at the end of this episode, the position of his body is very much like the position of the Hanged Man on the tarot card, especially Cass’s legs and feet:
Tumblr media
We also have to be patient until we get him back ;-)
The Hanged Man is also the card, on which the psychic’s hand gets stabbed by the wraith:
Tumblr media
3. Jack’s empathy:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jack’s room is near Dean’s room and we can see Jack feeling the brick wall, with a worried look on his face. IMO he can feel longing and strong emotions, just like angels can. He can literally feel through the wall Dean has currently built around himself again (which could soon come down and partly does already) and sense Dean’s longing for his lost ones, especially Cass as we get to know at the end of the episode when Sam and Dean argue.
4. Mr Miyagi:
Tumblr media
Sam wants to help Jack to learn control over his powers (this scene reminded me so much of Star Wars by the way!!!) and wants him to move the pencil. Jack is afraid to use his powers, because he doesn’t want to hurt someone. That’s why it’s not working and Jack feels useless because of that. But he keeps on trying for Sam, even though he’s pressuring him and then this happens:
Tumblr media
Jack was able to move the pencil. But now he’s scared. He’s sitting in a very dark corner in the room, protected by the walls and cupboards around him. But the way (no) light is used in this scene fascinated me the most. Jack can hardly be seen, he and everything around him is dark. This is clearly linked to his powers, or his own estimation of his powers. When he talks to Sam again, Jack concludes that he can only be evil. But Sam opens up to him and tells him about his own story. That’s something Jack can identify with and this lets Sam bring im back halfway into the light:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sam’s honesty here is something Jack can relate to and trust in. I think this is also why Jack sort of “likes” Dean, because he’s honest with him. It’s so heartbreaking that in the last couple of minutes of the episode Jack has to find out, that Sam hasn’t been completely honest with him, because he wants to use his powers. I’m excited about what that will mean for their future relationship.
Right now Sam wants to the right thing with Jack. He’s reading a book about how to handle gifted kids and has learned not to put too much pressure on Jack, so he will be able to find his way (patience is the key again here).
Tumblr media
5. Patience
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Patience is strongly paralleled to Jack in this episode, but one parallel stood out to me. She’s holding back with her abilities, even before she’s psychic. We can see lots of sports awards and pictures of her earlier triumphs in her room. Moreover in the scene with Ronson, we find out that Patience is really good at sports, but has layed this part of herself aside in order to succeed at school. At the end of the episode she also has two possible ways layed out in front of her by her father, Dean and Jody:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
She doesn’t know what she wants yet, but the adults around her tell them their own opinions according to their experiences. Her father would have wanted a normal life as a kid with his Mom. Dean wants a normal life, which he can’t have and Jody now knows that holding back Claire was bad for her, because she had to suppress who she really is. Now Patience can decide for herself, what’s good for her, which way to go that will lead her to truly being herself and at peace with herself (this is strongliy linked to the tarot card reading again). There’s also a strong parallel to Dean here: if you supress who you really are, you end up miserable…
6. Light and shadow:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is the third episode in which this kind of lighting around Dean occurs. There’s definetely some kind of pattern. In my opinion it could stand for both light and dark within Dean and that there’s also a path for him to choose. But the shutter’s shadows are also reminding of grates in a prison. Maybe his turmoiled emotions imprison him right now, make him less flexible in his ways of thinking. Some light has to reappear in his life in order to free him from this prison (Cass will be back in a couple of episodes, I’m really excited to see how that turns out!).
7. Love and the veil:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When Jack overhears Sam and Dean arguing (poor Jack…), imo he can feel Dean’s strong longing and love for Cass again. He himself longs for Cass and his Mom’s video message earlier in this episode has fueled these emotions: “You will be amazing. There is an angel watching over you!” Jack wants to be amazing. He wants to choose the good path of light. But when he hears Dean shouting at Sam, he can also feel that Cass is an integral part of this way to light. So he intuitively reaches out through the veil and wakes Cass up in the empty (by the way, that’s exactly how I imagined the empty to be like, black eerie nothingness…). Jack wants to do something good for himself and others aswell and I hope this decision doesn’t turn out to kick ‘em in the ass, like the brothers would say.
Those were some of my thoughts on this episode (turned out to be quite a long post, sorry). I’ll write again after the next episode. Please feel free to leave your own ideas and feedback in the comments! :-)

Doctor Who: Why Each Doctor Regenerated | Screen Rant
Tumblr media
Here are all the monsters, injuries and mishaps that have caused the Doctor to regenerate in Doctor Who. Recasting a title character can be risky business for most TV and film franchises, but for Doctor Who, it's an integral part of the mythology. In a unique trick, Time Lords have the ability to cheat death, renewing every cell in their bodies when they are gravely sick or fatally wounded. From a real-world point of view, regeneration provides Doctor Who with a legitimate way of continuing the show when the lead actor has had enough or, in some cases, is given the boot.
The rules and lore surrounding regeneration have changed and evolved over the years, with the term itself not introduced until the era of the Third Doctor. A Time Lord can regenerate a total of twelve times, but can also be afforded a brand new regeneration cycle by the Time Lord council - a gift bestowed upon the Doctor in Matt Smith's final episode. More recent additions to the regeneration concept have shown that the process can alter gender and skin color, and Time Lords also have the option to refuse regeneration, should they wish.
Related: Doctor Who: How Jack Harkness Becomes The Face Of Boe
Regeneration is one of Doctor Who's most innovative and useful concepts, but the process has been wildly different on almost every occasion. The Doctor's regenerations have also been caused by a wide variety of different threats, some considerably more dramatic than others.
Tumblr media
Doctor Who's early creative team cooked up the idea of regeneration after William Hartnell, the original actor to bring the Doctor to life, began to struggle with memorizing scripts and delivering lines. Seeking to continue the show with a younger star, the Doctor would "renew" himself and transform into a completely different man. Throughout the First Doctor's final adventure, "The Tenth Planet," the Time Lord appears weakened and frail, sometimes being forced to rest as he battles the Cybermen for the first time.
After helping save Earth from the deadly emergence of the Cybermen's home planet, the Doctor wearily returns to his TARDIS and collapses, regenerating into his Second form. Although not explicitly addressed, the generally accepted reason for the First Doctor's regeneration is old age. The Doctor is already several hundred years old before the start of Doctor Who and his recent adventures have evidently taken a toll on his ailing body.
Tumblr media
When it came time for Patrick Troughton to move on from Doctor Who, the "old age" excuse wasn't going to work, with the Second Doctor not only younger and more cheerful than his predecessor, but far more sprightly. Instead, Doctor Who introduced another element to the mythology that would form a core part of the franchise for decades to come: the Time Lords.
Although clearly of alien origin, the Doctor's background had never been previously addressed, but "The War Games" revealed his heritage and established the Time Lord code of non-interference. The Doctor was wildly in violation of said code, but a dire situation forced him to call for aid from his Gallifreyan kin, even knowing that punishment inevitably awaited. Charged with various counts of meddling, the Doctor was forced to give up his current regeneration and was exiled to Earth. Most heartbreakingly of all, the Second Doctor's companions were forced to completely forget their adventures in the TARDIS.

Jon Pertwee's Third Doctor was the most human version yet, driving a jaunty car, joining U.N.I.T. and taking down baddies with his Venusian aikido. However, the Third Doctor's eventual regeneration was definitively alien in nature. Having previously stolen a blue crystal from the planet Metebelis 3 for study, the Doctor discovers that a race of mutated giant spiders have taken over and are seeking the return of their crystal. While this sounds like a reasonable request, the spiders seek to use the crystal as part of a larger plan to dominate the galaxy.
Always a step ahead, the Doctor knows that the crystal's overwhelming power will kill, not enhance, the spiders' leader, and handing back the stolen crystal will therefore save the day. Problematically, the spider's cave is teeming with lethal radiation but, in a noble effort to protect the universe, the Doctor ventures into the cave of the Eight Legs and hands over the crystal, defeating the spiders. Upon exiting, Pertwee's Doctor barely has enough strength to pilot the TARDIS back to Earth and regenerate.

Tom Baker's regeneration into Peter Davison is unique in that it requires the cooperation of a mysterious third party. In "Logopolis," the fabric of reality is beginning to unravel and the Doctor is forced to team up with the Master to save the universe. Although the unlikely duo succeed, the always-opportunistic Master threatens to restart the collapse unless control of the universe is handed over to him. Ascending a high radio tower, the Doctor manages to disconnect the dish broadcasting the Master's ultimatum. With the Master tilting the tower's gantry, however, the Doctor falls to the ground below, triggering his next regeneration.
Having been followed by a strange white figure known as "the Watcher" for the entire story, the dying Fourth Doctor reveals his stalker to be his own future incarnation, and the two Time Lords merge together during the regeneration process. Why the Watcher is a necessary component of this particular regeneration isn't clear, but wider Doctor Who media suggests that seeing a Watcher is an occasional phenomenon that befalls Time Lords who are nearing a regeneration.

In his final story, Peter Davison's Fifth Doctor stumbles across a battle between various political and military factions for a valuable natural mining resource called Spectrox on the planet Androzani. While inspecting the Caves of Androzani, the Doctor's assistant, Peri Brown, becomes entangled in an unknown sticky substance that is later revealed to be unrefined Spectrox. Both Peri and the Doctor make skin contact with the Spectrox and soon begin to exhibit symptoms of poisoning. The Fifth Doctor embarks on a mission deep into the caves to find the only known antidote to their condition and although he succeeds, he can only retrieve a single dose, curing Peri at his own expense.

Colin Baker's departure from Doctor Who and the BBC was an acrimonious one, and this resulted in the most abrupt regeneration sequence ever seen on the series. At the very beginning of the season 24 premiere, "Time And The Rani," the TARDIS comes under attack from the planet Lakertya at the Rani's command. After a barrage of energy blasts, the TARDIS is caught and boarded, where the Rani witnesses the Sixth Doctor regenerate into the Seventh.
The exact cause of Colin Baker's regeneration isn't made clear, and fans can only assume that he sustained severe injuries following the assault upon his ship, although subsequent audiobooks have sought to fill in the gaps of the Sixth Doctor's demise.
Tumblr media
The classic series of Doctor Who was cancelled while Sylvester McCoy's Seventh Doctor still held the keys to the TARDIS, but his story continued in the 1996 TV movie, which offered a regeneration sequence grounded in stark realism. Thanks to the Master, the Doctor's TARDIS unintentionally materializes in 1999 San Francisco, right in the center of a shootout between two rival gangs. The Doctor's sudden appearance spares the life of a young man named Chang Lee, but the Time Lord himself takes a barrage of bullets.
With dual hearts and Gallifreyan physiology, the Doctor actually survives the shooting, but is killed by well-meaning surgeons as they attempt to open the Doctor up and save his life. Aimlessly fiddling in a Time Lord's body, Dr. Grace Holloway kills the recovering Doctor and he later regenerates in the building's morgue.

With his only appearance coming in the ill-fated movie, fans were left guessing as to how Paul McGann's Eighth Doctor regenerated. Answers finally arrived in time for Doctor Who's fiftieth anniversary in the short film, "The Night of the Doctor." Written by Steven Moffat, "The Night of the Doctor" sees the Time Lord desperately trying to avoid partaking in the burgeoning Time War spreading across the universe.
Travelling alone, the Doctor comes across Cass, the pilot of a doomed ship, and attempts to save her life. Unusually for Doctor Who, Cass refuses, not wanting to be saved by one of the Time Lords currently destroying galaxies with their endless war against the Daleks. For his part, the Doctor refuses to leave and with both passengers remaining stubborn until the end, the ship crashes, killing both. Fortunately, the Doctor seems to have landed on Karn, a former colony of Gallifrey introduced in the Fourth Doctor's era. The planet's natives, known as the Sisterhood, give the Eighth Doctor an elixir that will supposedly allow him to fully control the characteristics of his next regeneration.

Appearing in the 50th anniversary special, John Hurt's War Doctor was a fleeting but welcome addition to Doctor Who canon and was seen regenerating at the end of "The Day of the Doctor." Making reference to his body "wearing a bit thin," the War Doctor's regeneration can be attributed to old age, for the first time since 1966. However, it could also be argued that the War Doctor's function was merely as a soldier in the Time War, and once that conflict was over, so was the War Doctor himself.
Tumblr media
For the second time, the Doctor sacrifices himself to save an assistant. Under assault from the Daleks, the Ninth Doctor sends his assistant, Billie Piper's Rose Tyler, away in the TARDIS for her own safety. Rose refuses to accept being unable to help the Doctor and strives to find a way back to him, eventually absorbing the heart of the TARDIS and gaining God-like abilities. Rose saves the day but is rapidly becoming unstable, forcing the Doctor to absorb the power himself via a painfully cheesy kiss.
After restoring the TARDIS energy back to its original location, the Doctor begins to feel the effects of saving Rose, later claiming that no Time Lord is supposed to take in that much power. He promptly regenerates into David Tennant.

David Tennant's demise was a long time coming in Doctor Who, with the "he will knock four times" warning coming well in advance of the Tenth Doctor's final episode. Viewers were misled into believing this prophecy would be fulfilled by the Master or Rassilon but, in the end, it was Bernard Cribbins' Wilf that heralded the end of the Tenth Doctor's reign.

During the dramatic final confrontation of "The End of Time," Wilf selflessly frees an innocent worker from a two-man radioactive chamber, locking himself in until another person can take his place. When the dust settles, the Doctor hears the gentle knocking and realizes he must sacrifice his own life to save Wilf, absorbing a deadly dose of radiation in the old man's stead. After a whirlwind tour of his old friends, the Tenth Doctor delivers an emotionally devastating final line and regenerates in explosive fashion.
Tumblr media
For the third time in his life, the Doctor died of old age when his Eleventh incarnation resolved to protect the planet of Trenzalore for hundreds of years, guarding a crack that separated the hidden planet Gallifrey from the amassing Dalek fleet waiting to resume the Time War. And since the Tenth Doctor had avoided a regeneration through the use of a preserved severed hand, Smith's Doctor was already out of lives.
After deterring the potential conflict for the remaining years of his Eleventh iteration, the Doctor consigned himself to a death of the permanent kind, but was spared this fate by the Time Lords, who granted him a brand new regeneration cycle.
Tumblr media
Peter Capaldi's regeneration was special in the sense that it was triggered by damage accumulated throughout the Twelfth Doctor's final adventure. Coming up against a powerful army of Cybermen and two incarnations of the Master, the Doctor's first major injury arrives in the form of Cyberman electrocution. Although the Doctor survives, he spends several weeks recovering from the attack and is unable to heal a cut on his forehead, with golden regeneration energy beginning to brew from his hands.
Delaying his forthcoming renewal, the Doctor later engages multiple Cybermen in combat and endures several energy blasts before detonating an explosion that not only wipes out his mechanical enemies, but puts paid to any chance the Doctor had of recovering from his previous wounds. Capaldi's regeneration marks a rare occasion in Doctor Who history that a major villain has succeeded in directly killing the Doctor.

DnD Character Asks!
1. How many dead parents do they have?
Della: 3 (as she knows it, her birth parents might still be alive somewhere but she has no idea who they are and they have never been in her life so they are dead to her. other is the old woman who took her in and raised her)
Trina and Casablanca: none, parents are all alive and well
Pia: both dead (father possibly alive but was an orphan so has no real idea who he is)
2. How good are they at tongue twisters?
Della and Pia can manage fairly well. Trina can only do it when she’s not actually trying to. Cassie is like this is dumb.
3. Biggest regret?
i don’t think any of them have done anything they truly regret, its too early in their stories. but Della perhaps wishes she were a little less hostile towards people, a little more friendly, trusting, outgoing. and Cassie kinda regrets not being able to have a better relationship with her mother. Pia regrets nothing, all she’s done that others might regret she’s done in the name of survival. Trina is the one who might actually have regrets, like pushing the envelop at art school when she knew she probably shouldn’t have pushed it that far, or scamming those folks by telling them she was a true, graduated artist (actually her regrets are if she was going to get into trouble for either of those things, not making an even bigger impact)
4. Are they formally trained or have they gone through a more organic learning experience for their skillset?
Della is all organic for her magic with some formal training in natural healing/herbalism.
Trina is mostly trained in her druidic arts but her artistic talents are organic.
Cassie and Pia are trained in their arts, though Cassie’s combat skills are more rough and untested than Pia.
5. If they could hang out with one famous person in 18th century American History, who would they want to hang out with?
????
6. What’s their theme song?
Della has a whole playlist ;)
7. What fictional character are they most like? Was this an intentional or accidental influence?
8. Paper or plastic?
paper for all (maybe plastic for Cassie if she’s going out to sea, paper gets soggy)
9. What’s their dump stat?
Della is not charismatic.
Pia is also not charismatic, nor very strong (poor tiny elf girl).
Cass is lower on wisdom and maybe dex.
Trina lacks dex and has lower charsima
10. What’s their best stat?
Della rocks con and wisdom/intell (which ever she needs more for her spells, i can’t remember which is which)
Pia is all dex.
Cass is strength and con.
Trina is wisdom (but only of the druid spell casting variety, not the actual kind).
11. What is their favorite anime?
i know nothing of anime so i can not say
12. What’s their favorite beverage?
Pia just wants cold, clean, clear water. maybe a crisp cider if shes got the coin, but she will take that watered down piss quality ale.
Cassie and Trina will drink pretty much anything in a tankard.
Della sticks to her herbal tea. perhaps a wine if the occasion calls for something.
13. If they can use magic, what’s their favorite spell?
Trina is here for stoneshape, earth moving spells.
Della rocks the inflicting wounds. she is very good at the spare the dying, but its not her favorite.
14. Most heroic thing they have ever done?
Again, its too early in their stories for anything to really have occured, heroic or otherwise, but Pia might be recognized for going without many things (food, adequate clothing, lodgings) for the sake of others.
15. Most despicable thing they have ever done?
Della has said hurtful things but that pales in comparison to her leaving behind folks she has only done the barest of minimums when it was within her power to help.
Trina has lied and cheated people from money by protraying herself a fully acredited artist. There was a time or two when she didn’t even bother to attempt to produce the art works she promised patrons.
16. Are they a hero or a supporting protagonist?
I’d like to see Della and Cassie be heros. Trina is more a sidekick. Pia has the potential to be a hero.
17. What’s their favorite food?
Trina is always eating. girl loves her food, doesn’t matter what it is.
Cassie of course likes seafood. hand her a hearty pail of mussels and some bread and cheese on the side.
Pia is kinda delicate when it comes to food, partially her small statue leads to dainty portions but so does half a lifetime of going hungry.
Della’s meals are full of fresh, wild ingredients. she mostly dines vegetarian i think but doesn’t not dislike meat.
18. Would they rather fight a hundred duck-sized horses, or one horse-sized duck?
Pia says hundred, more target practice.
Trina goes for horse sized duck.
Cassie and Della don’t really have a preference.
19. They have to go live on a deserted island. They can take one thing and one person. What do they take?
Della would chose to be alone but want to take a journal to write in (since she’s not taking a person, she can have a pencil too right?)
Trina would want her father and her staff (to practice her true arts with)
Cassie would be very torn between taking her father or her craftsman friend.
Pia wants her daggers. She would mostly want to be alone but at the last moment decide she wanted the friend who taught her her skills in the city.
20. Are they religious? If so, what god or gods do they serve?
Trina is religious to her druid tribe and its respect for mother nature.
Cassie offers her prayers to gods of the seas.
Della would serve the source of her magic.
Pia despises religion and gods and worship.
21. How did they become an adventurer?
Della wonders off in search of more knowledge of her mysterious wild magic. she also has no one left in her tiny cabin in the woods and faces rejection from the population of the nearest town and wishes to escape. will find herself integrated into a party.
Pia runs off with her street kid mentor, both in search of a better life.
Trina is trying to make her way home and stumbles upon a small party in trouble. after coming to their aid, they take up the task of escorting her home (via the longest, most interrupted by adventurous situations route ever)
Casablanca ran away with the guild prince she was almost betrothed to when they both had no desire to be wed. they join a crew but a couple of adventures in, the guy knows its not the life for him and stays in the next city they come to. Cassie stays in touch with him, using him as her new homebase between missions.
22. Most amazing monster they have ever killed or helped kill?
Once again, too early in their sagas to have killed much (except maybe some wild game, or in Pia’s case an assassination or two)
23. Thoughts on death?
Della sees it as just another state of (non)being.
Pia and Cassie have seen much of it and have no wishes to see it themselves, but will lay down their lives in service of others (Cassie more willingly than Pia, who is secretly afraid of it)
Trina seems more or less indifferent to death, just another part of the cycle. she would be the most accepting and least fearful of it.
24. Do they have any interesting skills?
Trina is a sculptor/pottery artist.
Della is gifted in herbalism and poison crafting. also cooking
Pia is your standard dagger throwing, agile, acrobatic rouge type.
Cass is great in the water, swimming, sailing. navigator and cartographer. surprisingly good dancer.
25. Favorite animal?
Cassie likes dolphins.
Pia hardly knows animals beyond city dwellers like rodents and pigeons. i guess she would pick a cat.
Della is fascinated by moths. deer might be another favorite.
Trina of course loves animals of all types.
26. Expansion of civilization or the preservation of nature?
Della and Trina are for nature preservation.
Pia and Cassie would rather see things remain as they are, civilization and nature but would lean more to expansion (Cassie’s argument being that you can’t expand and ruin the ocean)
27. They’re at a tavern. They bump into a big burly angry drunk with a combative attitude. What happens?
Della and Pia are fighting (they might offer a warning first but its not like the guy is going to heed it and its a threatening one at that).
Cassie is like woah there big guy settle down, i just bumped ya, didn’t mean nothing by it and will thrown down only if he keeps being rude (but its not the brawl that would start with D and P)
Trina will also attempt to apologize and calm him down by offering food or buying him a drink. will probably just wall of stone him in place until shes ready to leave if he insists on being dumb about it.
28. What do they do between quests?
Cassie always tries to get back to the city to see her friend. he’s usually crafted something new for her or her party to use or trade in their current supplies for. they eat some good food and go for a drink where Cassie can tell him all about her adventures. she also always writes a letter to her father (and there is usually at least a couple waiting for her when she does get back to check in).
Trina is usually stuffing her face, laughing her butt off with her friends, exaggerating their tales for the crowds around them. occasionally she will create something in the traditional manners to keep up her skills if she can find the right supplies. she usually decides its not as good as if she had used her magic and leaves the work behind (but little does she know there is almost a cult following with in the art world for her little abandoned pieces)
Della likes to journal and pursue magical knowledge/training. she likes to do this alone, away from her party.
Pia gets squirrely between missions, she does not like being idle. She will hone her already impressive skills, sharpen her knives, prep supplies, anything to keep busy. when she sneaks away, shes out searching for information about the group that caused the fire that burned down her town, including her orphanage and killed some important people and children.
29. Biggest positive and negative influences on their life and development?
Della’s positive would be the old woman who took her in as a small child when she was abandoned. while she does not remember her mother abandoning her, Della is aware that is what happened and the parent to give her up and resents her for it. another big negative would be the general populations reaction to her tiefling-ness.
Cass would cite her father’s positive influence on her life, even if her upbringing aboard the ship was not the most traditional. Her mother’s absence from her early life was not exactly a negative but Cassie does recognize now that she’s met her that she would have been. she cared not for Cassie, only that by marrying off a daughter she could advance her own status in society. while Cass resents that, she is thankful that it allowed her to meet her guild prince friend who has been nothing but a positive in her life.
Pia has positives in the form of the sisters who ran the orphange she was raised in. they held nothing but compassion and kindness. while rough around the edges as most street urchins are, the friend who took her under his wing after they met trying to make a living on the streets, also demonstrated the same compassion and kindness in her eyes. the biggest negative influence would be the hard life on the streets after society showed it didn’t care much after the radical group attacked her town. also the street kid king who makes demands of those who band together (demands Pia was not comfortable with, no matter how bad street life got).
Trina’s positives would likely be her family, her circle, her friends. negatives would be the ones who kicked her out of art school for magic use on her final project, even after she explained exactly its use and what she was trying to say with her art, that she wasn’t just using the process to cheat.
30. Would they smooch a ghost?
Pia, hands-down no.
Della would but only if it were a ghost she wanted to smooch (chances of that are pretty slim)
Trina and Cassie would on a dare but neither are true firm believers.
