Summary: Dean, Sam & Cas's long-established dynamics were going to change as they came across a young, brave but somewhat socially awkward hunter, Emma.
▁ ▂ ▄ ▅ ▆ ▇ █ SPN █ ▇ ▆ ▅ ▄ ▂ ▁
In the pulsating underground world of supernatural hunters, the unknown and paranormal intertwine in a ballet of suspense and horror; a world where whispers of mythical creatures are real, where angels and demons tread the same ground as humankind. The seasoned warriors, Dean and Sam Winchester, alongside the celestial being, Castiel, or 'Cas' as they fondly called him, were stalwarts in this crazy, impossible world. But their long-established dynamics were going to change as they came across a young, brave but somewhat socially awkward hunter.
It was another typical day in their bizarre world for the notorious hunters, Dean, Sam, and Cas. They had seen a fair share of shapeshifters, vampires, ghosts, and all other nasty things that come crawling in the night and tucked away neatly in our childhood nightmares.
A new case was their focus, a series of gruesome murders in a small town on the outskirts of Georgia. The trio arrived at the crime scene, piling out of the renowned Impala. Quickly delving into their fake federal agent personas, they started debriefing the local sheriff, scrutinizing each detail for any tell-tale signs of supernatural involvement. But before they could finish, a hint of gunfire echoed through the calm Georgia air.
From the thick woods on the edge of town, a young woman emerged. She was slight but carried herself with an impressive air of toughness. Her hair was disheveled, her clothes stained with dirt and blood. In one hand, she held a smoking gun; with the other, she dragged a Lycanthrope. With a small but weighted introduction, they discovered the woman’s name: Emma.
This wasn't your typical damsel-in-distress scenario; this was Emma, a young and highly skilled hunter. Emma was beautiful, tough, and quicker than most men twice her size, but also oddly socially awkward. Her bravery was not borne from recklessness, but rather from a deep conviction for the brotherhood of hunters.
Dean watched from a distance as Sam and Cas got acquainted with Emma. Not being able to stop himself, Dean, with his usual bravado hiding concern, remarked, “You hunt solo, kid? It's dangerous out there.”
She shrugged her shoulders dismissively, her eyes showing a hint of determination that the Winchesters knew all too well.
She had a way about her, recklessly brave, but also gentle in her toughness. She was a skilled hunter, yes, but she was also awkward in social situations, often blushing deeply or stuttering in conversations. She was disarming in her vulnerability, and the trio couldn't help but feel protective of her.
Days turned into weeks, and Emma became an integral part of their little band of hunters. But for all her skills, she had a fault. Her bravery often morphed into self-sacrifice. For the days that followed, Emma would tag along, showing the boys her exceptional hunting skills, and her useless social skills. If she wasn't stumbling over words, she was obliviously missing sarcasm.
Dean, the older and more protective of the Winchester siblings, saw a fiery spark in her. Her awkwardly adorable inability to converse in social settings oddly reminded him of his younger self — a lone wolf with the world on his shoulders.
On the other hand, Sam, the more academic-minded and understanding of the two, saw stark similarities between Emma and their late friend, Charlie, another gifted yet socially inept hunter who had also captured their hearts. And Cas, an angel exiled on earth, held a gentle affinity for the young hunter. Her struggle with societal norms mirrored much of his own. These parallelisms drew them to Emma in a fraternal sense.
One night, things had turned disastrous. While tracking down a nest of vengeful spirits, Emma had jumped in front of a possessed car, saving Sam at the very last moment. When the dust settled, they discovered her sprawled on the ground, unconscious and severely injured.
The sight of Emma's unmoving form ignited a surge of protective instinct in each of them. The tender, awkward girl had saved them more times than they could count, and now they were unsure whether they would lose her.
Over the next few days, the trio stayed by her side, nursing her back to health. They took turns staying awake at night, ensuring that nothing could harm her while she was vulnerable. Their dynamic had subtly shifted—no longer was Emma just their partner, but they had unconsciously adopted big brother roles for the young hunter.
As Emma pieced back together, she was met with an unexpected surge of protection from the guys. Dean grew more watchful, often flinching at her every wince. Sam was overbearing in his care, constantly checking her wounds, and fussing around for her betterment. Cas, meanwhile, was an ever-present silent guardian, always nearby.
And so, amongst the chaos, a beautiful bond was formed. They had gone from paternal figures to protectors, all the while holding onto their love for their newfound companion they never knew they needed. Emma, in her profound bravery and captivating awkwardness, had caught the hearts of the Winchester brothers and their angelic ally, creating an unbreakable bond.
Interwoven in their world of mystic monsters and deadly danger, they discovered an unlikely friendship and an unspoken vow: they had each other's backs, always. Emma's jarring entry into their team had shaken up their closely guarded universe, showing them that while they fought the darkness, there existed light and love in their unique family dynamic.
The story of Emma, the awkward fearless hunter, held a mirror to Dean, Sam, and Cas, reminding them of their own beginnings and the protective bonds they had forged on the perilous path they walked together. She became their unifier in the face of adversity, the string that tied them together, making them a team... a family.
For Emma, what started as a way to help others had turned into an incredible journey of strength, camaraderie, and, above all, sacrifice. With Dean, Sam, and Cas by her side, she was ready to face the supernatural world unafraid, her awkward quirks now a badge of honor in their close-knit family. She may have been their protege, but in their hearts, they knew, Emma was their savior too. Thus, the saga of Supernatural continued, now with an extra sense of fraternity, love, and a promise to stand by each other, always.

letting go. | the winchesters
Tumblr media
sam & dean winchester x reader: both are in love with you. and to save their relationship you decide to take a step back.
you slammed the door to the impala and rushed a few steps ahead of them. the arguing continued the whole drive back to the bunker and you were just about fed up. you had joined sam and dean a bit over a year ago once you crossed paths and helped each other during a hunt.
being alone for years, the company was a nice change. so when they welcomed you to stay with them for a while, you agreed. you didn’t expect, however, for it to become a permanent thing or to find out that they both fell in love with you somewhere along the way.
it was only recently that they both admitted to each other that they fell for the same girl. they picked up on each others mannerisms towards you but never said anything at first, just started a silent brotherly war on who could make you the happiest in the run of a day until it made someone confess.
at some point, you had fallen for them too. you could never tell them that though. it was unfair and the thought that somehow something could work out was unrealistic. they both loved you more than anything in the world, and you them. choosing wasn’t an option, losing one of them wasn’t an option. so you stayed quiet on your feelings.
“she almost died, damn it!” you heard dean yell behind you. sam scoffed. “enough dean, alright?” you hoped they’d finally stop fighting but dean couldn’t help himself, not when it came to your safety. “no, sam. it isn’t enough. not when it comes to her.” sam valued your safety too, of course but he also valued your choices and ideas, unlike dean. if it was the slightest bit risky, he wouldn’t allow it.
it was your idea, your choice. you were sick of being treated like a newbie when you had been doing this alone for years. they never acted this way toward you until the feelings disrupted everything. before, they treated you like a hunter. not like some girl who couldn’t take care of herself and needed protection.
sam protested at first, but you knew he’d be easier to convince than dean. you wouldn’t have brought it up at all if you knew you’d be in the middle of a fight because of it. the vampire nest was probably the biggest any of you had seen. while dean was sneaking around the nest to try and find a way in that wasn’t the main doors, you told sam that you were just going straight in the front. “you’re kidding me right?” he laughed, but once he saw your very serious face the protesting began. “no. no way! (y/n). it’s too dangerous.” you opened the car door and got out, sam following as he tried to get you to stop.
“every hunt is dangerous, sam. you’re forgetting i’ve done this a hundred times before- alone, might i add. i’m not some inexperienced little girl. and i’d appreciate it if you and dean stopped treating me like one.” sam was silent for a moment. “we just don’t want to see you hurt.”
you grabbed a weapon from the trunk, and passed another one to sam. “i know, i don’t want you to get hurt either. it could happen to any of us. now let me do my damn job. i’m always following the lead, just trust me this once. please.” his eyes showed worry still but he sighed, “alright.” he understood your frustration, and he wanted to make you happy so he gave in.
“thank you. go find dean, go in through the back when i go in through the front. they’ll be distracted, you can fight more of them that way.”
that was it. that was the reason for today’s argument. yesterdays and the day before and every other day before that were different reasons and it was getting all too much.
“i was just doing what she asked of me, dean.” sam’s voice echoed through the bunker as you all stepped into the main room. “see that’s the difference between me and you, sam. you do what she wants, i do what keeps her alive.” dean stated with harsh intent.
you walked out of their sight and started packing your few belongings quickly and quietly. you didn’t want to leave, but you started to think it was your only option. or it was just your cowardly way of trying to avoid the problem instead. you were heart broken, always thinking about how their love for you has done nothing except make them fight and ruin their relationship. it’s been months and it was enough.
“i’m leaving.” you stated flatly, as you threw your bag onto the table in front of you. your words made them shut up quickly. their expressions changed from anger to confusion and worry.
“what are you talking about?” dean asked, inching closer to you. “where is this coming from, (y/n)?” sam joined in on questioning you, tucking his long hair behind his ears before crossing his arms.
“i can’t keep doing this. you guys are tearing each other to shreds over anything to do with me. i refuse to stay and keep being the reason you hate each other when i can just leave.”
sam and dean shared a troubled look. dean opened his mouth, ready to fight you on your decision, as usual. but he couldn’t find anything to say.
“you two should be the most important people to each other, not me. and i know you can’t help your feelings, neither can i. but this is just for the best right now. i can’t stay here, not like this.” you paused, trying to see any sign of understanding from them but all you could see was disappointment.
“i’m sorry. this is probably the hardest thing i’ve had to do, and trust me i’ve been through hell and back doing this stuff on my own. i wish it didn’t have to be like this- but you two are so important to me and i won’t forgive myself if you keep fighting this way.”
they knew you were right to some extent. they fought a lot over you and things to do with you. but they couldn’t understand how leaving would fix anything either.
“no. all feelings aside, we’re family. you can’t just leave, it won’t fix anything.” sam protested, “you’re not leaving. no chance in hell.” dean shook his head, reaching for your bag but was too late as you had grabbed it first,
“yes i am. i need to. you need to reconcile and the longer i’m here testing your very different opinions you’ll never stop fighting. this isn’t forever, alright? but it’s something i need to do. i have to let you go so you realize what’s truly important.”
you refused to listen to their objections. you were doing this for them, but also yourself. it was unfair to everyone to stick around when you loved them both and they both loved you. some time apart might put things into perspective for everyone.
you couldn’t look them in the eyes any longer as tears fell from yours. they stood there as you kissed their cheeks and whispered your goodbyes to them. they fought back the urge to blame each other and for once accepted this as your decision. but they hated it nonetheless.
they watched you leave without saying a word, not even able to return the farewell. they just stood there, silently comforting each other without realizing.
you had just left and they were already one step closer to acting like brothers.
that’s all you ever wanted.

and it’s good
DeanCas coda to 15x19: ‘Inherit the Hearth’
He hasn’t stopped praying.
From an empty world to one filled with people, Dean has gone to his knees every night—on the floor, the gravel, the dirt—and prayed. Head down. Face pressed to his knuckles. Dear Cas…
From each failed plan to their eventual, anti-climactic victory, Dean shares it all. And when it’s all over, when they wake up the morning after with no Jack, no Cas and no world to save, it’s bittersweet. Confusing. Like being released into the wild after living in a cage.
Where does he go from here? What does he do?
What does he want?
Sam doesn’t have a problem finding his own answers, but then again, he never has; he was the one with the life outside The Life: the college boy, the dreamer. Dean… Dean needs some time to adjust. Regroup. Grieve, maybe—whatever the hell that looks like. So, he serves himself a bottle of Jack, grabs a box of Pop Tarts, and makes his way to his recliner. First day of freedom? Dr. Sexy and sweet oblivion sound awesome.
“Hey, uh, what’re you—” Sam cuts himself off, skidding to a halt in the doorway of the Dean Cave. He’s got that pinched look on his face, the one that means: inevitable bitch face, concerned edition. Dean waves him off.
“Chilling out,” he mutters, taking a long pull from the bottle. “Figure I deserve a vacation.”
Sam narrows his eyes. “A vacation.”
“Yeah, genius. A vacation. You know, a little me time?” Dean takes another pull. “You got a problem with that?”
Sam shifts his weight. Frowns at the floor. It’s weird to see him like this; he’s so big, now, but that move is straight out of his teen years—when he’d been gangly and awkward and angry and unsure. He looks up, resolved, and Dean heaves an internal sigh. Whatever the fuck Sam is trying to do, he doesn’t want any part in it.
“What if you come with me?”
“Nope.”
“Dean—”
“Look, Sammy, we fought the big fight, we won, there ain’t nothing left to do,” Dean says reasonably, bitterly, turning back to the DVD menu. “So I don’t wanna go into town, or to the store, or wherever else you’re planning on gallivanting to today. I’m gonna watch my show, drown myself in booze and pass the fuck out, because that is what I’m owed. Capiche?”
“Eileen texted. I’m… I’m going to go get her.”
It’s weird, Dean thinks, how many times a heart can break. He clenches his jaw and swallows the lump in his throat, blinking rapidly. Allows himself a second—one second—of envy and jealousy before he slaps a smile on his face and nods. “Good,” he says. He means it. “You should.”
“So…” Sam trails off.
“So…” Dean echoes.
“…Come with.”
“Sam, I’m not gonna crash your romantic reunion okay? That’s weird.”
“Dean—”
“Sam.” And there’s more that comes out in that word than he ever intended. It hangs heavy in the air between them before dropping to the ground like a stone. Loud. Shattering on impact. Dean thinks his voice might have cracked and his vision is blurring because this pity? This is fucking worse. Shoving a Pop Tart in his mouth, Dean chews with his mouth open in the vain hope that his table manners will prove an adequate distraction, but that shit hasn’t worked for a long time.
It tastes like sawdust.
“Just go,” he says. “You have to go, man.”
It’s as much a plea for his brother as it is for himself, and for one long, terrifying moment Dean thinks Sam’s going to refuse. That he’s gonna be dragged across the country to witness his brother find happiness in a way he will never be able to have.
…But Sam is kind, not cruel, and when those big eyes of his fill with tears, Dean has never been so happy to have given himself up. He watches as his little brother’s shoulders slump. As he readjusts his duffle.
“I’ll be home in two days,” Sam says. “If you’re dead, I’m gonna pissed.”
“Yeah yeah,” Dean replies, forcing himself to tease. To be excited. He deserves this. “Go sing in the rain or whatever.”
“Or whatever,” Sam volleys back, a smile tugging up the corner of his mouth. He looks so happy, and Dean can’t stop himself from mirroring the expression. It hits him all at once, then—a sucker punch to the gut, the heart—that no matter what, he did right by his little brother. That he’s grown up to be smart, and kind and caring, and now he can be happy. And Dean—Dean’ll figure it out. But Sam’s taken care of and that’s… good. That’s a lot.
“Hey, Dean?”
“Mm.”
“I love you,” Sam says. He’s seven and thirty-seven and Dean feels something inside himself ease and break all at once.
“Yeah,” he murmurs. “I love you, too.”
Sam grins.
***
There’s no more frozen pizza.
It’s already a fucking travesty that the pizza place doesn’t deliver to their secret underground bunker, but Jack polished off the last two pies—and while it’s a little bit hilarious to think of the ‘New God’ (his kid) scarfing down shitty plain cheese in his pjs, it’s also awful, and painful. So Dean slips on his shoes, grabs his keys, and shoulders on the jacket with Cas’s handprint over his hole-y sleep shirt.
It’s not like he’s sober, but he’s done worse.
It feels like a shitty pizza day, so Dean makes a beeline for the Wal-Mart and its frozen section, stocking up on two of every topping from the cheapest brand they’ve got. He grabs popcorn, chips, twizzlers and margarita mix, because fuck it, and smiles at the cashier. It’s not an epic romantic reunion, but this is what normal people do, right? They take an entire day and wallow without the weight of the world on their shoulders.
Dean’s cradling his spoils, twizzler hanging out of his mouth, shuffling out of the garage when—
He freezes.
The kitchen. There’s someone banging around in the kitchen.
Not like aggressively banging—one quick sweep around the area confirms no signs of forced entry—but just like… moving shit. Washing the dishes from this morning, or getting ready to make something new. Dean’s heart is caught between hope and heartbreak and he forces himself towards the latter. It’s probably Charlie, or Bobby or Jody or Donna or, hell, even Jack or Claire. No one else can get in. And if it’s something dangerous… well, Dean doesn’t have a weapon on him, and his damn pizza’s thawing.
But it’s not Charlie or Bobby or Jody or Donna. It’s not Jack. It’s not Claire.
…It’s Cas; freshly showered, dressed in Dean’s fucking clothes, making himself a sandwich.
He’s beautiful. Dean’s shirt—AC/DC, the one with the mustard stain on the collar—is just a little small on him, and he’s humming, and Dean has to blink once twice three times to make sure he’s not a goddamn mirage but no he’s still there, still scooping grape jelly onto the good bread and then putting the dirty spoon on the counter like a friggin’ heathen and—
“Are you gonna wash that?”
It’s sure as fuck not what he’d meant to say, but it gets the job done. Cas drops the spoon—the spoon—and whirls around like a kid caught with his hand in the cookie jar. “Dean,” he breathes, like Dean’s name is some kind of benediction. Like it’s important.
Dean clutches his groceries tighter to his chest. “A-Are you…?” he asks. Steps forward. Steps back. Stares because he can’t, he can’t— “Are you real?”
Cas is barefoot. He’s quiet when he steps across the linoleum. His hair is turning fluffy where it’s drying and his eyes are blue and bright and he’s a miracle. “I’m real,” he confirms quietly. His hand twitches by his side, and Dean thinks that’s fair. Thinks that he gets that Cas has reservations because of—because.
But they’re unfounded.
Dean drops his spoils because they’re an afterthought; nothing is more important than knowing, than reaching out to touch his fingertips to Cas’s shoulder. To his jaw. He can’t stop the tears from springing to his eyes like he can’t stop himself from laughing. Smiling. And suddenly he has Cas in his arms and he smells like Dean’s soap and Sam’s fancy shampoo, and they’re holding—clutching each other, and Dean turns his head because it has to be now he has to say it now: “Cas, I—”
“I know,” Cas interrupts. “You don’t have to—I know.”
“Yeah?” Dean asks, voice high with something like hysteria. The whole thing is so absurd, so insane, so fucked, that it’s all he can do to bury his face in Cas’s neck. To squeeze his eyes shut. To talk. “Well, you’re a friggin’ moron,” he says. “And you got no goddamn idea what you’re talking about, because—because you changed me, too, you dick.” Cas’s fingers dig into Dean’s waist and Dean’s heart pounds like it’s trying to escape and his throat is dry and he’s sweating and he’s gonna be sick, he’s gonna die— “A-And I love you.”
He wrenches himself away, then, glaring like he dares Cas to take the words away from him. “Okay?” he asks, rhetorically. Menacingly. It’s a declaration and a confession and a challenge. And Cas meets his stare unflinchingly. He reaches up to thumb at the wetness on the apple of Dean’s cheek. “Okay,” he says. He nods. Leans in. “Okay.” Their mouths brush. “Good.”
It’s not even a real kiss, so Dean can’t be blamed for how he chases; how he breathes good, in faint agreement like a lovesick fool, and moves until they’re kissing good and proper—slow and sweet and then deep and wet and it’s good, it’s so good, he’s so good.
Later, they’ll have to make every thawed pizza. They’ll drink the margarita mix and share the same popcorn bowl and pay no attention to Dr. Sexy playing in the background. They’ll talk about Chuck and Jack and Sam. They’ll stare. They’ll tease. They’ll flirt.
But for now, Cas twists his hands in Dean’s shirt and Dean buries his hands in dark hair. They pause for breath only to come together, again and again and again.
And it’s good.

Y/N = Your Name
---
“(Y/N)! Get a move on!”
Dean’s deep voice echoed down the hallway just as you shouldered your duffle bag with a roll of your eyes. It hadn't even been 10 minutes since the call for help had come in. If it wasn’t for the fact that you’d been busy cleaning your guns when the call came, you would’ve already been out there in the library with them, ready to go. It wasn’t as if you’d been standing around fussing over which ratty t-shirt to pack for an hour.
“On my way!” You shouted back, grimacing as the heightened volume easily erased the annoyance you’d wanted to subtly lace each word with. Throwing another quick look around your room in the Men of Letters bunker you sighed at the mess.
T-shirts and jeans were everywhere, as you’d pulled out everything to quickly stuff a few items in your overnight bag just in case the hunt took longer than planned. Not to mention the cleaning supplies you’d left abandoned on the floor from where you’d been sitting cross-legged polishing your favourite revolver.
It would all have to wait till you got back. Even though you knew you’d regret it once you made it back, bruised and stiff from the fight and the subsequent ride back in the Impala. Having to clean your room before you could fall into your bed feeling sorry for your aching bones was never fun.
Yet, sticking to a decision you knew you’d come to regret; you got a move on before Dean could call out for you again. Swiping up your phone, you hurried out into the hallway and nearly ran straight into Sam as he came barrelling out of his own room.
“Dean?” He asked, his hazel eyes meeting yours with a raised eyebrow a clear sign that your annoyance at being rushed was showing on your features. Though it didn’t matter, since the youngest Winchester clearly shared your irritation as he threw you a glance, underscored by an eye roll that put yours to shame.
“Yeah… Dean,” You said with a sigh as you lifted the straps of the duffle bag off of your shoulder. Attempting to bring some blood flow back into your arm from the heavy load of guns, knives, holy water and other goodies. As well as the clothes thrown in for good measure.
“Let’s not keep our oh so righteous leader waiting then. C’mon (Y/N),” Sam smirked, teasing a small smile out of you as well. Before quickly reaching down and effortlessly snatching your duffle bag from your hands and hurrying down the hallway. If it wasn’t for your relief of having the bag off of your shoulders you would have stopped him. Reminded him that you could easily kick his ass if you went one on one.
But, you knew that there were no hidden meanings in Sam’s gesture. He was just trying to be helpful.
You’d realised quite quickly after getting to know him that one of the things the youngest Winchester feared more than anything else was being abandoned; seen as useless or a burden and left standing in the dust. The shadows of his childhood fears were still clinging to him, little tendrils that he’d never managed to shake. Old fears from a youth spent in constant worry that his father would just drop him off somewhere and drive off without ever coming back. That, coupled with the many lost friends, lovers and hunters that had left him, willingly or unwillingly, made him try twice as hard at being of use to those he loved, every step of the way. From small kind gestures, like carrying your bag, to willingly offering himself up as a sacrifice to the big baddies of the world, in hopes of rescuing Dean, Cas, and now you.
Rolling your shoulders to shake off the rest of the strain from the bag, you pocketed your phone before hurrying after Sam down the hallway. No point in being grumpy when there were bad guys to gank. And neither of the two men in your life deserved your grumbled dissatisfaction. Both the bag and Dean’s insistence of getting on the road as fast as possible were just their own little ways of showing they cared.
Sam was just trying to be helpful and Dean was always worried about losing another civilian by being just a second too late. And you loved them both for it. After all, one was your best friend in the whole world, while the other already secretly had your heart. Though you’d never found the courage to tell him you slipped it into his hands when he wasn’t looking.
“(Y/N)!” Dean’s voice echoed down the hallway, pulling you out of your thoughts and back into your grumbled exasperation aimed at the oldest hunter. Ok… So maybe you’d allow yourself to be a tiny big grumpy until there were baddies in front of you to take it out on.
“I said I’m on my way!” You called back in a huff. Casting a quick glance at your closed bedroom door before quickly running to join the boys. Hopefully the bruises yet to come from the hunt wouldn’t make you regret your decision to leave the mess behind.
---
“So where are we headed, exactly?” You asked after about an hour’s drive and a quick case briefing from Dean. Leaning between the seats from the backseat of the Impala in a way that had Sam throwing worried glances your way for your lax seat-belt etiquette.
“There’s a farmhouse, just 40 clicks away now, shouldn’t take long,” Dean’s voice had taken on that steely hardness it got whenever things got serious. And though the case was nothing out of the ordinary for the Winchesters and you, there had already been two reported deaths.
Which also meant that Dean had already added their names and faces to his list of sins to carry. People he could have saved if he could have somehow seen into the future. The oldest Winchester always etched the names of every lost soul into his big heart, burying them there among the many ‘should haves’ and ‘what ifs’ that weighed his broad shoulders down. He was a good leader, and a great hunter, but sometimes he cared a little too deeply. Leaving him hurt no matter how well a hunt went.
“... And put on your seatbelt (Y/N),”
“Yeah, yeah,”
… And sometimes he treated you like a little kid. The thought teased a wry sigh out of you. Quickly reaching out, you turned up the volume of the Led Zeppelin song that was playing, a small act of rebellion, before leaning back in your seat. Smiling innocently as Dean’s green eyes met yours in the rear-view mirror, his attempt at exasperation softened by the way his eyes crinkled in a smile.
No matter how hard as steel the hunter tried to act, he always had a soft spot for Sam and you. To Dean, his feelings were cracks in his armour. They were the blind spots his father had told him about when teaching him to ‘always watch his back’. Yet, the man was more deserving of a family, of love, than anyone else you knew. And so, Sammy and you watched his back instead. Where he watched yours. Both of you determined for the older hunter to see you as strengths, not weaknesses.
Soldiers, shoulder by shoulder.
And, though Dean would constantly complain... You knew he was secretly happy the two of you stuck around; silently terrified of the loneliness he always tried to force onto himself by pushing others away. No matter how loudly his father’s words echoed in his mind and tried to tell him he was leaving himself vulnerable.
Letting Black Dog be your soundtrack, you watched the two most important people in your world from the backseat of the Impala. The Winchester brothers; both carrying scars from the family business they’d fallen into after their mother’s death. Each fearing abandonment and hurt in their own bruised and broken way. Both forced to give up any dream of apple pie to make the world a better place. Children turned soldiers turned martyrs, shaped into a sacrifice by a world that turned a blind eye to their suffering. Which was why you had promised yourself that you would try your damndest to give them a home, and that you would never run away from your life with them.
Even if a certain hunter sometimes made that a hard promise to keep, as every friendly jab broke your heart at the clearly unrequited love you harboured.
You sighed internally as you cast a careful glance in the direction of the man you’d come to love as more than just a hunting buddy or a friend, more than anything really, over the last year and a half of hunting with him. He’d probably be heartbroken to know he was hurting you, which was why you could never tell him how you felt. How your heart and body reacted, as if by reflex, whenever he was around.
Anything he did, from the smallest smile to the feel of his eyes on you, set your body on fire. In a manner not so different to what Robert Plant was promising he’d do to you as Black Dog blared over the Impala’s speaker system. And fuck if you didn’t want to echo the great artist himself and ask the man in front of you to do some not so innocent things to you whenever your eyes strayed to lips that you’d rather have on you than rambling on as they currently were about the case.
“Right… So, to make sure we’re ready…”

Ok, I’m about to go off on a GIANT rant about a specific issue I have with John Winchester & how the show intentionally & canonically portrays him as an ableist, homophobic asshole through his portrayal by JDM, so buckle up.
For the record, this is something I’ve always believed, but after listening to podcast episodes from @otrsupernatural & Carrying Wayward, one super clear example of why has just snapped into place & I feel compelled to share it.
So I want to start by noting a couple things that stand out. First & foremost, I think JDM is an incredible actor & I think he brings his A game with his portrayal of John. John Winchester is undeniably an asshole, & yet JDM balances that so well against the idea of loving parent, to not only make the character more realistic, but also to give real authenticity & depth to the trauma his children experienced at his hands & answer why they act the way they do in regards to him as their parent.
John is someone who, on the surface, appears to be a loving and concerned father, who makes mistakes, but does so because he’s in shitty circumstances & doesn’t have a lot of options or has his own trauma to battle that limits the choices he believes he has.
However, the show also gives us other content that proves there is more to John than that caring but broken man from as early as S1 & into the beginning of S2, & this content screams the truth of his ableism & homophobia, & gives some really strong evidence as to why these are two of the primary struggles of his children through the end of the series.
To explain, we 1st have to look at characters from earlier in S1. In 1x10, Asylum, we are introduced to Dr. Ellicott. He is shown to be someone who is canonically ableist to people with MHI. He sees them as less human, he does unethical experiments on them, he tortures them, just, lots of gross stuff there. On top of that, we see him as a ghost using what appears to be electrical shocks to Sam & Dean to possess & harm them, which resembles electroshock. There are also strong echoes of conversion therapy in this episode.
After this, we have 1x12, Faith, where Sue Ann is using dark magic to attack & murder people she hates, which specifically includes a woman who was pro choice & a gay man. This not only shows that she was homophobic, but that she condemned sexual freedom & bodily autonomy for women as well, which is in relation to homophobia, as well as deeply rooted in misogyny.
So essentially, we are shown a doctor who tries to force people to be less mentally ill or queer by “curing” them, & then a woman who took it a step further & murdered them to “cleanse” the town. We are given two different, but very interwoven ways with which society has tried to get rid of queers & disabled people, & it’s not subtext, it’s literally stated.
Now, in the show, both Dr. Ellicott & Sue Ann are the villains, & while the show demonstrates their ableism & homophobia, it also clearly condemns them for those actions. They are both dead/gone by the end of the episode & their actions are shown as evil. This is SO important, especially for a show that has failed in other episodes to truly state what exactly is the problematic action in the episode (looking at you, Bugs & Route 666).
That said, if Dr. Ellicott & Sue Ann are villains, then we must also extrapolate that ableism & homophobia are intentionally being written as evil in the show, so other characters who demonstrate these actions are also bad. (Yes, I know I’m being super redundant right now, but I just want to be really damn clear on this to demonstrate why I believe John’s characterization is intentional).
Now, in 1x21, John finally “learns” about Sam’s psychic abilities, & I say that in quotes bc there’s reason to believe he knew about it already from Missouri & was just in denial until confronted with the evidence, at which point he has a very strong reaction. As Ali pointed out, it’s interesting that he has such a strong negative reaction, as he clearly doesn’t have an issue with Missouri as a psychic, & yet he’s upset about Sam being one. He demonstrates the mindset of “othering” people outside of his family, which is a common treatment of both people w/ MHI & queer people - the mentality that “those people” are fine in general, but “not my son/daughter/family/me”.
So here in that episode, we are already getting an attitude from him that clearly parallels ableism & homophobia, & that is on top of other comments he made that are clearly rooted in misogyny, like his “that’s my man” to Dean in the flashback in Something Wicked This Way Comes (1x18).
THEN - the final nail in the coffin is the “secret” he tells Dean before he dies in 2x1; that Dean needs to either save Sam or stop him. By now it’s crystal clear he views Sam as something “other”, something not fully human, & his response? It’s literally “cure or cleanse”. Either make him “normal” or get rid of him.
To repeat, John LITERALLY uses ableist & homophobic language & tactics towards him son because he is different, & also tries to force Dean to do the same, passing on that legacy, by trying to erase anything about Sam thats not his personal definition of “normal”, all out of FEAR of who his son is & what he might do.
And the show CONDEMNS this behavior from the very beginning, even before we ever see him act this way!! They make it clear that ableism & homophobia are BAD, show John act that way, & then condemn him AGAIN when Dean tells Sam & it is made clear to the audience that what John asked of him was wrong.
Like… holy fuck. There is literally no way I can watch this & not believe that his characterization was not 100% intentional with him being set up as a bad person & his actions as condemnable. It’s just not narratively possible. John Winchester was intentionally written to be an asshole & we are supposed to see him as one, & any love we see from him is only meant to validate the complicated feelings Sam & Dean have towards him, not undermine the knowledge that he is a bad person. It’s literally in the text.
*Edit - Im adding a point here, since it’s been brought to my attention. John’s concern about Sam being infected with demon blood & possibly corrupted does not detract from the parallel being made between his actions & those of IRL people who are homophobic or ableist. In fact, this is another argument for that in interpretation, & here is why -
For literal thousands of years, mental illness has been viewed as demonic. People w/ MHI were thought to be possessed, evil incarnations, or even just sinfully corrupt & given to wickedness. People w/ physical disabilities were believed to be punished for moral failings, not faithful enough, etc, etc. Queer people were believed to be sexually deviant, witches, destroyers of families, etc.
These beliefs carry across many religions, but especially Christianity, & are present even today in some more extreme sects. And the people that believed these things? Well many of them were parents who “loved” their child & were trying to protect them from evil by purifying them. They too believed they had valid fears & good reasons to torture, maim, & even kill their children.
So to anyone who would argue “well it’s not the same because John had a good reason to be afraid of Sam” - shut the fuck up, because no, he didn’t.
Sam hadn’t hurt anyone. He wasn’t doing anything worth killing him over. He was a good kid who was hurt by someone outside his control & yet he only started doing anything that was truly wrong when he was pushed to it by circumstances that were again, beyond his control, & only then bc he was trying to do what was right!!
Anyone would do that, not just a kid w/ some demon blood powers. So let’s not act like he was inherently dangerous just BC he was different, bc guess what? That’s part of that mindset too. Sam was a good fucking person & John seeing him as less was John’s failing, not Sam’s.

Tumblr media
Summary: Y/N commits suicide and the Winchester tried to cope with her death. Jack refuses to believe it so he brings her back to life. He thought things were fine until he realized Y/N didn't have any memories of them.
Warnings: mentions of depression and suicide. Make sure you check in on your friends and family. You don't know what they're going through and staying quiet about it.
Characters: Jack x reader, Sam x reader, Dean x reader, Castiel x reader, Henry Cavill as Ruben
--
The bunker sounded quiet and lifeless without Y/N there. The past few months, she's been going through a rough patch with her. One day, the Winchesters came back from a week long hunt to find her in the bathtub with her wrists slit.
Dean pulled out her of the tub and wrapped her in a bed sheet because he knew that Sam couldn't see Y/N like that. He also know that Sam didn't have the heart to bury her, but the image of her pale, lifeless corpse was forever seared in their brains.
This happened a few weeks after Jack killed Mary and they are barely holding themselves together. Y/N was like a big sister to Jack, and when Castiel told him what happened to her he was heartbroken. He snuck into the bunker before they burned her body and transported her to a random warehouse.
He hovered his hands over her and snapped his eyes shut to concentrate all of his power to bring Y/N back to life. After a few minutes, your body jolts up and you gasp for air. "Y/N?" Jack says excitedly.
Your Y/E/C scanned the room of broken windows and brick walls starting to detierate. Your eyebroes furrow when you see a young boy staring at you happily.
"I'm sorry but.. who are you?" You asks. His smile falls and his eyes saddened. "What? You dont know who I am?" You shake your head and add, "No idea." "I need to call Castiel," he says slowly. His jaw clenched as he eyes focused on a random spot on the bed. He reaches into his pocket for his phone and dials a number.
"Please stay here," "Who's Castiel?" You ask. "Someone you care about you. Just please stay here until we figure this out," he says, clearing in distress. "Okay." He walks towards the doorway but doesn't leave the room. "Cas, something went wrong." "Jack, what did you do?" A man with a low, scratchy voice says.
"Y/N is alive. I brought her back to life before they could burn her body," Jack explains. Burn my body? Was I murdered? Is he my killer? You think to yourself. "You what?" "She's awake now but she doesn't know who I am and I don't know what to do." Jack says all in one breathe. "Okay, where are you?"
"I don't know, some warehouse a few miles from the bunker." Jack answers. "I'm on my way, just keep an eye on her." Cas says before hanging up. Jack's gaze fall on you and your heart starts to race.
He makes his way towards you and sits back down on the chair. "Don't be nervous, Y/N. I would never hurt you. You're like a sister to me."
"What happened to me?" "I think Cas is better at explaining that than I am." You cross your legs and push your hair back so it's out of your face. "Can I lay on you?" He asks. "What?"
You barely even know this kid, but honestly, he does look like a kid. A kid that's been through a lot more than he should have, you give in.
You let out a slow sigh before scooting over on the bed. The bed creaks with every movement and you were surprised it didn't collapse under you.
Jack sits down next to you and lays his head where your shoulder and chest meet. A soft sigh leaves his lips and there was a moment of silence before you hear a sniffle.
"You okay?" You say, looking at him. "I really missed you, Y/N. You're really important to me and I'm sorry I could be there for you when you needed me." He croaks. "Jac-" "Jack!" Castiel's voice echoes through the warehouse.
Jack stands up from the bed and says, "In here." Cas follows the voice to the room and stops when he sees your laying there, staring at him.
You stand up from the bed too and Cas rushes over to you. He takes you into his arms and you stand there awkwardly, letting your arms dangle by your side. "She doesn't remember who you are, remember?" Jack says. Cas pulls away, wiping away some of his tears. "Right, I forgot about that. Sorry," Cas says to you.
"That's okay," you say with a soft smile. Cas matches your expression and his eyes fixated on yours, like he was having a conversation in his mind. "Her not remembering us may be for the best, Jack."
Cas looks over his shoulder at Jack. "What? No, I need her. We need her." Jack explains. "This life had already taken enough away from her. She needs her life back."
"You love her. How can you let her go?" "Sometimes, you can love someone so much that you know letting them go is what's best for them," "We just got her back." Jack says, on the verge of tears. My heart sank into your chest.
"Name the place, and we'll take you there with a snap of our fingers." Cas says, returining his gaze back you. You glance over a Jack and say, "A road trip doesn't sound like a bad idea."
"He's just a kid, Castiel. He needs emotional support," you add and a small smile tugged at his lips. "What?" "You're sounding to act a little but like yourself," he explains. You exchange a smile and Jack asks, "What about Sam and Dean?" "I'll handle it," Cas says.
**
It's been two months since Castiel and Jack dropped you off in Chicago. You had enough common sense to live in a city, and there was something drawing you to Chicago. But you have no idea what it was.
One night you were walking out of the subway to walk a couple blocks from your apartment. You were grabbed and dragged into an alleyway. A hand was pressed to your mouth and you stared into the eyes of a fairly attractive man.
His navy blue eyes search yours and he moved his plump, pink lips to whisper, "Don't say scream or making any noise. You're being followed."
He pulls his hand away and looks over at the sidewalk you were just walking on. His has a well groomed goatee and get black hair that is combed to the side in a thick swoop to the right.
He looked like a classic mobster. He even has the black trench coat and all and you eye him suspiciously. You look to the sidewalk with the shadow of a large figure grows closer.
Your heart is racing but nothing is telling you to run. Everything is telling you to fight. The man was still relatively close to you and not moving. "What are you doing?" He leans in closer and crashes his lips onto yours.
He cups your cheeks and tilts his head to the side to gain more access to your mouth. Your body plattens on the brick wall and footsteps walks passed the alleyway.
The man finally pulls away and you lift your leg to kick him away by the solar plexus. He falls flat on his back and you say, "What the hell was that for?" He up from the ground and said, "You're a tough broad, aren't you?" "Damn straight. You pull anything like that again and I'll do alot more than kick you."
You hear a woman's shrill and the hairs stand up on the back of your neck. You rush into the alley way and run towards the sound of her screaming. You slide to a stop to see a man trying to drag a woman I to the alleyway.Your eyes scan around for a weapon and you find an iron poker. Thank God you have your tetanus shot.
You keep a tight grip on the rod and swung the rod at the arm. The man grunts in pain and let's go of the woman. "Run," you command. She looked at me reluctantly. "It's alright." She shakes her head and says, "Girls support girls." She pulls out her pepper spray from her purse and we both turn our attention to the attacker.
He was still cradling his arm and when you take a step towards him. He stumbles backwards and says, "I-I'm not looking for any trouble." "Oh, I thin-"
"You okay, darling?" Your boyfriend, Ruben, asks. He walks up behind me and slides a hand down my arm. "Yeah, just think about how we first met," "Oh you mean when you kicked on my ass like a rag doll?" He teased as he sat down across from me.
"To be fair, you kissed me randomly and I didn't know who you were. And the guy that attacked Y/F/N worked for you."
"Well can you blame me? You're drop dead goregous and I wanted to know what you were made of." "So you tried to attack me?" "You can learn a lot about someone by how they fight. Most girls either run away or fight to run away. You fight to protect others." "And that's when I knew I had to have you." He adds, tapping his thigh for you to sit on.
You stand up and sit down perpendicular to his body. His hand trails down to your lower back and presses his lips against yours in a soft kiss. As the kiss intensifies, his hands fell lower and lower down your leg.
He pulls you so you're straddling his lap. He grips your ass and your roll your hips a little, making him moan. Who knew that you would end up falling for a mobster?
**
You've grown quite used to be Ruben's right hand woman. He made me in charge of the tactics and strategy because you have strength in planning and preparation. You were in the middle of planning for a drop off and pick up back while Ruben was out conducting business.
You hear a loud struggle and grunts. You look up from your notepad to see some henchmen walking a taller man into the red room. All of them were bloody and disheveled from fighting. "What happened to you guys?" You say as you approach them. "Y/N? You're really alive?" The man asks.
"How do you know me?" You ask. "He doesn't. He's just trying to save his ass because he knows he's going to meet his maker," one of the henchmen says.
The man reaches and touches your face. You gasp in shock of his warm, calloused hands but you only felt it for a second before he is shoved to his knees. One of the henchmen pulled out his gun and cocks it.
"Hey, trigger happy, put the gun down " you command. "Boss says to kill anyone who interferes with our business. We found him tearing one of our warehouses apart."
This man's touch feels familiar and something tells me to let him live. "Let him go," you state. "What?" "Did I stutter? I said let him go." He puts his gun away and you help the man up.
"Look, I don't know you, b--" "Dean. My name is Dean." He interupts. "Dean, you need to leave Chicago and never return." His hazel green eyes scan your face and he nods. You motion to the door and he says, "I'll always love you, Y/N." You two lock eyes for a moment before he walks out of the door.
"Boss will-" "I'll tell him what happened, don't worry about it." "Worry about what?" Ruben says, making the henchmen jump. "Privacy," you tell them and they all walk away. "Worry about what, baby doll?" "One of the warehouses was trashed," you say with a sigh.
You walk into your office and lean against your desk. "Did they find who did it?" "Yes," "Did they toss them in the red room?"
"No," you say. You eyes dart away from his gaze and he asks, "Why not?" "I knew him." "Y/N, you made a vow to not let personal affairs mess with business."
"I know, okay. I'll pay whatever price. I'll pay for the damages out of my own pocket and go to the warehouse to cl-" "You're going nowhere near that warehouse," "Come on, baby, talk to me." He adds, sitting next to you.
"Remember how I said that I had a life before I went to Chicago but I didn't remember it," "Because of your head trauma, yeah." He answers.
"I think he knew me before then. He knew who I was but I had no idea who he was. All I know is that his touch was familiar an-" "Wait, he touched you?" His jaw flexed and he stands up from leaning on the desk.
"Y-yes, but only for a second." "He's a dead man," "Ruben, please," you say, standing between him and the door. He steps so close to you that your chin gently grazes his chest.
He lifts your chin so you are looking straight up at him "You're mine, you know that right?" "Yes," you say softly. "We're going home," "But what about the tactical plan f-"
"You can finish it at home after I edge you for an hour," "Damn it," "Should've thought about that before you let him touch you,"
**
An unknown number has been calling you the past few days. Ruben always warned you about answering calls from unknown numbers.
Since you were a part of his business now, that put a target on your back. You had to be vigilant and careful with your words. You never know how is watching or listening.
The same number called you for the fifth time today and you slam on the answer button. "Hello?" You answer. "Hey, sweetheart," Dean deep, velvety voice says. "Dean, what are you doing?"
"You're in danger, Y/N. We're coming to get you," "First of all, I'm Nuben's girlfriend. I'm always in danger. Second of all, no you're not because they have a shoot to kill order on you."
"I don't care, Y/N. Lucifer is after you and we're not sure why," "Lucifer does not exist outside of the bible. "You're wrong about that, sweetheart." "Stop calling me sweetheart," "You have to believe us, Y/N. You're life is at stake here. If Lucifer finds you, you and your little boyfriend is a good as dead."
His words echo in your head and your mind started to disassociate. Series of images flood your brain and there was a sharp pain in your head.
You hiss and drop the phone on the floor as you hold the sides of your head. Voices of different people you've never hurt before echoed in your head and images of a man with dirty blonde hair and stained t-shirt and jeans.
His eyes glowed a crimson red and with the snap of his fingers, he could make a person's neck snap of their entire bodies explode. Then some images of you and Dean came into mind.
You were laying next to each other talking about something and he kisses you. Then the images were gone and you looked around frantically. "What the hell was that?" You say to yourself.

Have you thought the idea of Sam and Dean meeting Jensen and Jared? I think it would be very funny, Dean and Jared would get along great 😂 grumpy Jensen and Sam being together rolling eyes at both of them. And how S/D will know that Dean is married to Anael and Sam is married to ruby(that we already know but still) seeing two Impalas in Texas and dean's reaction on that😂 Dean and Jared's fast food spree, with Jensen's FBBC tour of all four of them. I think it would be a great day😂
(So it took a little long for me to answer because I wanted to give you something anon. Here it is.)

Jared looked at Dean's face closely.
"Hey he actually has less freckles than you do, Ackles !" he said in a chuckle.
"Yeah, that's makeup" Jensen sighed, looking around at the bunker, it was really impressive to see it without the lights, the cameras and anything showing it was a set.
"I don't wear makeup !" Dean grunted, offended.
Sam sighed, his nose still in his book, and rubbed his face. That trip to the world where they were TV show characters a few years ago had been enough. Now, as nice as they seemed, he really wanted to find a way to send those TV stars back home.
"Sammy relax, what's one more weird version of us" Dean stated, taking a step back from that man looking just like him wearing more fancy clothes, longer hair and a beard. "Dude what's up with the hair, cut it !"
"I like to let it grow when I'm in a hiatus, Dean" Jensen answered, feeling weird at saying a name that had been, for him, one of his for years.
Jared's laugh echoed in the bunker loudly. How could all the props have turned into real things ? He touched the blades and mouthed "awesome".
"Can't you be a little more like Padicky sometimes Sammy ?" Dean gave his brother a mocking smile.
"Padalecki" Sam corrected him, immediately giving Jared his best bitch face when the actor came close to try to high-five him.
"So you know everything about our lives ?" Dean asked, still weirdly looking at this face he was used to see in the mirror.
"Yeah" Jensen answered.
His voice was slightly different, and the expression on his face too. He turned his head to look at the weird polish named actor that looked like Sam, he was more agitated, smiling more and acting like a puppy in a new garden ; but there was still something heavy in his eyes...
"We know you for so long !" Jared said with a smile. "And I must say : Big fans."
"Still we know nothing of you" Sam lifted his eyes from his book. "If you two are going to stay there until we find a way to send you back to your perfect lives, we will need to know a few things."
"We're both married with kids" Jared said right away, feeling the urge to reassure Sam because the man he considered his best -imaginary but still- friend being so wary was uncomfortable.
"Married ? Oh yeah ! This one married fake Ruby" Dean mocked.
"I'm married to the actress playing Anael" Jensen stated, staring at Dean.
Sam chuckled, happy to see his brother's confused face.
"Shut up Sam, my wife is hot !" Dean grunted, making Jensen smile at his familiar attitude. "And kids ?"
"Yes, three, Jared too" the actor answered, a little sad when he realized they didn't exist here. "They're the best."
"Yeah well I have Baby" Dean said, like he needed to defend himself.
"I have one too" Jensen smiled.
"Me too !" Jared loudly said from the other side of the room, where he was looking everywhere.
"Excuse me ?" Dean's eyes widened. "Baby is not 'one', she's the only one !"
A silence fell upon them. Jensen put a hand on his pocket and took his phone, coming closer to Dean. He had no idea why he needed his character's approbation that much, maybe because he had admired him for so long...
"Look, those are my kids" he said low.
Dean looked at the pictures with a weird impression, the little boy actually looked a little like him. The pictures were taken in pools, fancy clothes, family meetings in big houses... And his heart started to ache a little.
"Wait what is that shit !" he suddenly exclaimed. "You have a... Is that bird ? You have a cheesy bird tattoo !"
"I made it for my daughter, JJ" the actor frowned.
"I may not have a daughter, but at least my body is free from all your posh crap" Dean proudly smiled, earning a disapprobation frown from his brother. "What ? There are fake rays of sunshine Sammy !"
Jared took a sit next to Sam to read over his shoulder and gasped.
"You really read Latin !" he exclaimed proudly.
"Okay" Sam sighed, closing the book in front of him, unable to focus. "Who's hungry ?"
Dean and Jared lifted their hands very quickly in the same time, making Sam roll his eyes.
While Dean started making his way to the kitchen, he crossed the green eyes of his double staring back at him. He would never admit being a little jealous of a world without monsters, of family and money... Just like Jensen would never admit how small he felt next to the actual hero that had saved to world, went to actual Hell and all, but also changed his own life so deeply.
"Dean" the actor stopped him with a friendly hand on the arm, making the hunter turn to him when Jared's voice of excitement resonated from the kitchen. "Can we take a ride in the impala, just you and me ? In the real Baby I mean."
Dean searched his eyes and nodded.
"Sure. But no way you're driving,  Ackles."

Go Save The World, Jack - 15x14
Just catching up, British time, and looking forward to diving into all your posts shortly...
Well, what a heartbreaker wrapped inside Christmas and cookies 15x14 Last Holiday was, from Jeremy Adams.
Mrs. Butters creates an artificial world of happy holidays and, like the abused beings/ children they all were, she, Sam and Dean try to paper over the cracks and play happy families for a while.
Tumblr media
Last Holiday provides a mirror echo of 3x08, A Very Supernatural Christmas, when we glimpsed Sam and Dean’s neglected childhood, as they missed out on celebrations like Christmas, because John was a monster-hunting obsessive.
Tumblr media
Mrs. Butters herself provides a mirror for the Winchesters’ abuse at John’s hands.
The Men of Letters imprisoned her, tortured her, forced her to adopt their black and white view of the supernatural (despite the fact she herself was a supernatural being, a wood-nymph).
The song is familiar to us now. What the Men of Letters did to Mrs Butters, John’s obsessive revenge-quest did to his sons - imprisoning them in “the life”, and torturing their emotional and physical wellbeing. Sam and Dean became sacrificial lambs to John’s own trauma and drinking.
And yet (and isn’t that the painful ambivalence abused kids often grapple with?) Mrs. Butters loved the Men of Letters anyway - they were family, just as Sam and Dean loved John anyway, despite it all:
Tumblr media
In the Winchester family psychodrama, the long and winding inner road-trip of Supernatural, here is the final turn of the Ouroboros; the Wayward sons we started out with, have become fathers themselves.
And in the final loop of the journey towards liberation, Sam and Dean must figure out how not to repeat the sins of the fathers, of their own father, upon their son.
Of course, at the moment, they are going down a WRONG PATH.
John put the weight of the world on his kids’ shoulders. They had to hunt things, save people, at the expense of their own desires, wants, needs, and emotional development.
Now, without meaning to, the WInchester brothers are repeating the pattern - pushing onto Jack, their adopted son, the weight of the world on a cosmic scale (as above, so below, right?)
Not only is Jack supposed to kill God, but also Amara?
Jack snuffing out the single light on his birthday cake, and plunging the bunker in darkness, telegraphs, in no uncertain terms, that this is a very bad, no good plan.
Tumblr media
Because no kid, human or Nephilim, should be asked to bear the weight of the world on their shoulders. And once Sam and Dean can see that - they’ll be free at last; free of John-the-Father, and his cosmic mirror God-the-Father, and both their metanarrative mirrors, the Writers’ Room itself.
These are well-worn themes, and the episode was perhaps a little clunky in execution.
Mrs. Butters’ 1950s housekeeper role for the Men of Letters, played the kind of dual role in the SPN narrative we’ve come to expect; playing it “straight”, on one level, as a sad metaphor for the lost mother-figure in Sam and Dean’s childhoods, and playing it “queer”, as a critique of the patriarchal horror-show the Men of Letters ran (doing endless violence, while a woman, whom they controlled, did their laundry and cooking). In that light, Sam and Dean’s Men of Letters “legacy” is toxic.
Castiel’s absence screamed louder than a banshee.
Super glad Eileen got that big bunch of straight roses tho’*
(*I genuinely am glad - I love Eileen - just having a mirror sarcasm moment there).

Never been so defenceless
read on AO3
After it is all over and Jack has become God, Dean keeps waiting for the other shoe to drop. But it doesn't. True to his word Jack is very hands-off. Well, after he has restored everyone and everything, including Eileen to Sam's relief and joy, and Dean's dog. And then he left, leaving Sam and Dean to figure out what to do with their own freedom now.
Sam wants to keep hunting, Dean knows this. They haven't talked about it yet, but they don't have to. Sam has always been the hunter of the family. He has a restless energy about him, had it even back at Stanford. Being with Eileen has been good for him, but it hasn't calmed down his instincts and they will be hitting the road together soon, Dean can feel it. But Dean is tired. There are papers on his desk, an application form for a local car repair. Sam and Eileen will leave soon, but Dean is going to stay. He has a dog to take care of after all.
.
The goodbye is strangely calm, probably the calmest they have ever had. There is no anger or fear, only the promise to keep in touch and to see each other soon. Dean offered Sam his baby, but Sam refused to take the Impala. They are taking Eileen's car instead. Dean isn't worried, he knows the two of them will be able to manage just fine without him. He can see the way they look at each other and he knows his brother will be safe.
Dean is staying at the bunker, the only home he has ever really known, too young to really remember their house in Kansas. Miracle loves the bunker and the wide-open fields surrounding it and settles in perfectly. Dean however doesn't settle. Not really. He hasn't told Sam the truth about what really happened with him and Cas, not the whole truth anyway. Not yet. It's not that he thinks Sam would react badly, hell, Sam probably knew all along. He just cannot bring himself to talk about it, to even think about it. Cas's voice still echoes in his ears when it is too quiet.
"I love you."
He cannot sleep at night, so he drinks. He cries. And he prays.
"Cas, please, if you are out there, if you can hear me-" He chokes back tears, and Miracle whines and crowds closer into his arms. "I need you." He buries his face in soft fur and cries until his throat feels raw.
The empty had only taken Cas after he had confessed. His "Me too, Cas" had summoned it. After the last time Cas had died, Dean had vowed to himself to not have any regrets when it came to him and Cas, had promised himself he would confess the next time. Who could have known that he would end up regretting confessing his love? He didn't know what would have been worse; the empty taking Cas and Cas believing Dean didn't love him back or Dean's love confession summoning the empty? But perhaps selfishly he wished he hadn't confessed. Maybe Cas would still be here.
He would do anything for Cas to still be here, but the angel had gone to the one place he wouldn't be able to follow.
"The very touch of you corrupts!"
Dean tightens his arms around Miracle. "I'm sorry, Cas. I am so sorry."
.
In his weaker moments Dean considers asking Jack. After all, he is God now. He should be able to pull Cas out of the empty. But he never does. Jack deserves his freedom, he earned it just like the rest of them. Still, he wishes. And he waits.
.
Dean settles into a routine. He starts working at the local car repair. Sam and Eileen come home for a bit and the bunker feels a little bit warmer for a while.
He wishes he had something of Cas to hold onto, but there is no trenchcoat to hold, no grave to visit. He found the mixtape in Cas' room. It's on his nightstand now, but he cannot bring himself to play it. He hasn't listened to Led Zeppelin in weeks.
.
Jack visits one night. Sam and Eileen and Dean are sitting in the kitchen, drinking beer. Sam has just finished telling Dean about their last hunt. His arm is settled around Eileen's shoulders and he looks happy, relaxed. Dean envies them although he tries not to. They both deserve their happiness.
Jack pops into the room without warning and Dean doesn't even flinch. It's a testament to how safe he feels in the bunker, how at home.
Sam is the first one to jump up and hug Jack. It should be weird to hug God, but as Dean hugs his son -and Jack is his in everything but blood, fuck what anyone else says- it just feels right. "Missed you, kid", he mumbles as he lets go.
"I'm sorry, Dean. I had to rebuild heaven and fix everything."
Dean shakes his head and sits back down. "It's okay, Jack. We figured you'd be busy", Sam reassures him and Dean just grunts in agreement, his mind stuck on Jack's words: "Fix everything." Everything? Surely he couldn't mean-
There is a knocking on the front door and Dean's heart starts hammering in his chest. Lucifer is dead. Does this mean-
No, it can't be, can it?
He looks at Jack with wide eyes and Jack just smiles at him. "This place is still warded against angels. I offered to let him in, but-" Dean doesn't listen to the rest of Jack's words, he is already out of his seat and sprinting towards the stairs and the door.
His heart is pounding painfully and he is breathing too hard when he finally reaches it and janks the door open.
Castiel looks beautiful. Dean would be embarrassed by his thoughts, but there is really no other way to describe him. Dean can feel the angelic power radiating from him and his knees go a little weak. This really is Cas, healthy and whole and powerful again.
"Hello Dean." Cas hesitates and Dean can't really blame him, he's just been staring at the guy.
"Cas", he chokes out and steps forward, into his personal space, unsure what Cas wants. If he still wants him now that he has been restored to his former power. But there was no reason to worry, Cas flings himself forward -there's no other word for it- and Dean has his angel in his arms, clutching him tightly.
"Dean!", Cas' voice breaks, and suddenly they are both crying and Dean is trying very hard not to think about what John would say about all of this as he borrows his head in the crook of Cas' neck and struggles to breathe. Cas smells like a cool summer night before a thunderstorm and Dean shivers and presses closer.
"I'm so sorry, Cas."
Cas shushes him and his arms tighten almost painfully around Dean before he lets go and takes a step back. Dean cannot even look at him, too afraid of what he might find on his face.
"Dean." His name sounds like a prayer on Cas's lips and he squeezes his eyes shut. "Look at me." The angel cups his face and Dean is powerless to deny him anything. "What happened wasn't your fault. I made the deal, I knew the consequences. And I would do it all over again if I had to." The sound that comes out of Dean's mouth can only be subscribed as a whimper and he is suddenly very glad that Sam isn't here to witness this. "Your love doesn't corrupt, Dean. Your love saved me. You taught me how to love, how to care more and be more than I could have ever imagined. I love you."
Cas's words break Dean's heart all over again. "I love you too."
Cas smiles at him, his blue eyes warmer than they've ever been. "I know."
Dean laughs wetly and steps back into Cas' space. He doesn't know what the protocol is here. He knows that Cas has kissed people before, has had sex before -he has to breathe through the jealousy that always flares up when he thinks of Meg and that goddamn reaper- but he doesn't want to overwhelm the angel. Cas's hand is still on his cheek and he is watching Dean with a small smile. "Cas, can I-?" He hesitates, but Cas only nods and pulls him in. The angel has always been braver than him anyway.
Their first kiss is painfully gentle. Dean wants so much, but he also wants to do this right. They separate when they both start smiling too much to keep kissing. "Come on, Sam and Eileen will be thrilled to see you", Dean says after one last peck and together they enter the bunker and walk into the kitchen.
Dean knows it is very obvious that they have both been crying, but Sam doesn't even mention it. Instead, he pulls Cas close and Dean can see that his brother is losing his fight against his tears too. Dean introduces Cas to Miracle and it is love at first sight. Miracle jumps onto Cas's lap as soon as he sits down in the kitchen, despite being much too big, but Cas doesn't seem to mind. He winds an arm around the dog and smiles at Dean.
Jack stays and they catch each other up on everything. Sam and Eileen talk about their hunts with Sam occasionally translating and signing for Eileen. Jack and Cas talk about rebuilding heaven.
.
It's the first night Dean doesn't drink more than a few beers. Steady laughter rings through the bunker and Dean's heart has never felt so full. He breathes in deep and smiles. He is safe and he's home with his family. He takes Cas's hand on the table, in front of everyone and wills himself not to freak out. Nobody even bats an eyelash. He exhales slowly. He is safe. Cas squeezes his hand.
.
They are home.
.
Jack is the first one to leave, citing angel business, or well, god business, as his reason to leave. Dean waves his apology away when Jack says that he is sorry for having to leave and just gets up to hug his son. It’s the first time he lets go of Cas’s hand since taking it.
“Drop by anytime”, he says as he pulls Jack in close. “And thank you”, he says a little quieter, squeezing him a little tighter.
Jack is smiling as he lets go, looking like the kid is still is in so many ways. Dean’s heart aches in his chest.
.
Sam and Eileen say goodnight next. They are staying in the bunker overnight, but they plan on heading out early the next morning to back up Jodie on a hunt.
Dean wiggles his eyebrows at Sam as they both get up. Sam blushes, but Eileen just winks at Dean and Dean smiles. He knows that Eileen is the best thing that has happened to Sam in a while, hell, maybe even forever. He has been planning on giving Sam Mary’s old ring, but he hasn’t found a moment to bring it up yet. But he will. There is no doubt in his mind that Eileen will end up as part of their little family officially soon. She already is part of it in the ways that really count anyway.
.
Dean isn’t ready to let go of Cas’s hand yet, so he stays with Cas in the kitchen until he feels like falling asleep right then and there. He has tomorrow off so it’s not really a problem. He can sleep in. “Maybe it’s time to go to bed?”, Cas asks with an indulgent smile on his lips after Dean interrupts him with yet another yawn.
Getting up from the kitchen table, Dean realizes that he isn’t ready to ever let Cas go again. But he doesn’t know how to tell Cas what he wants, how to tell the angel to stay. He awkwardly stands there, before he just holds out his hand for Cas to take. The angel takes it with a smile and together they make their way towards Dean’s bedroom, Miracle happily running ahead.
Dean’s bedroom door is closed when they reach it. It feels significant somehow and Dean swallows nervously. He doesn’t want to push, doesn’t want to ask for too much, when Cas has already given him so much. Miracle whines and scratches at the door with a paw.
“Cas, would you-, I mean do you want to erm? Come inside? And just stay? With me I mean? Spend the night with me?”, Dean stutters his way through the question and feels silly for blushing, but Cas only keeps smiling at him.
“Of course, Dean. I will not leave unless you ask me to”, he says in that painfully sincere way Cas has and Dean feels his heart clenching again. Maybe he really should eat more rabbit food.
Dean only shakes his head. “Never again, Cas. I want you to stay with me. As long as you want to.”
Cas’s smile gets even brighter and the angel leans in for a soft kiss. “Forever then.”
There are tears in his eyes and Dean can feel his own eyes burning. “Forever it is.”
The moment is cheesy, and he is painfully aware of how cheesy it is, but he cannot stop smiling. Dean is just so happy. He pushes his bedroom door open and Miracle immediately runs to the dog bed Dean bought a few days ago and flops down with a happy huff.
“I know you don’t sleep, so you don’t have to stay here with me the entire night, I mean it must get really boring, but I would sleep better if you, you know-“ Dean feels like an awkward teenager as he tries to tell Cas to stay with him until he has fallen asleep. And it’s not helping that Cas is quietly laughing at him.
“Dean Winchester, are you asking me to watch you sleep?”, the angel teases and closes the distance between them again and suddenly they are standing really close in the middle of Dean’s bedroom. Dean swallows, very aware of his bed being right there. His eyes flicker down to Cas’s lips, he cannot help it.
“Don’t act like you haven’t been dying to watch me sleep.” He goes for cocky, but his voice comes out breathy and rough. Dean licks his lips and smirks as he hears Cas’s breath catch. “Cas”, he starts, but then hesitates. Cas’s hands have found their way to his hips, a reassuring and comforting weight and they are standing so close, Dean can almost taste him.
“What do you want, Dean?”, Cas asks gently, stroking his thumbs over his hip bones.
“Everything”, Dean breathes and then flushes. “Whatever you are willing to give me.”
Cas’s smile turns a little sad at his words and for a moment Dean worries that he fucked this up already, that he ruined them before they have really begun, but then Cas speaks: “You selfless idiot.” He huffs a little laugh. “You have no idea how much I want you, do you? How long I’ve had to hold myself back from touching you?” Cas titles his head in that puppy way Dean still remembers fondly, his brow furrowing. “I want to give you everything.”
Desire rushes white-hot through Dean. He feels like he’s been sucker-punched, but there is no lie in Cas’s eyes. Dean knew that the angel loved him, but to hear that he also wants him, has wanted him for so long-
That is an entirely different feeling.
He reels Cas in and smashes their lips together, without any technique or finesse. He just knows that he needs Cas closer and he needs it now.
Cas huffs against his lips and gentles the kiss, his hands wandering to Dean’s back, stroking soothingly up and down, calming some of the fire in Dean’s veins. Dean follows Cas’s lead and softens his grip and Cas’s arms. “We have time”, Cas says gently as they break apart to breathe.
Dean smiles, takes his hand again, and leads him to bed.
They are safe, they are home, and Cas isn’t leaving.
They have time.

Chapter One
Tumblr media
A/N: No real triggers this time!!  WC: 1.9k Chapter 1:
“So every person in this book is a fairy tale character?” Emma Swan says to her ten-year-old son.
The boy had introduced himself as Henry, had brought his mother to Storybrooke. Of course, Emma had given Henry up for adoption when she gave birth to him.  But to have her son seek her out made Emma uncomfortable. He had come to her claiming to be the savior of the storybook world. Henry spun a tale about a curse and how all of the characters of the Enchanted Forest were stuck in a town called Storybrooke, Maine.
Henry had with him a brown leather storybook that was thick but didn’t appear to be heavy. Henry seemed to carry around with no problem. One thing Emma found off when they arrived into town was the clock tower. As she observed it, she couldn’t help take note of how it never seemed to move. She led Henry back to his mother’s house. Henry’s adoptive mother, Regina Mills, was the mayor of the town. Henry claimed she was the Evil Queen from the story Snow White. Emma found this silly. Then again, Emma wasn’t one for fairytales anyway. Fairytales are for kids.
Inside Granny’s Diner, Sam Winchester sat inside waiting for his brother Dean. Granny’s was usually closed at night since Granny went to work at her bed and breakfast in the mornings, but Ruby was always there at night to serve the night owls who couldn’t sleep.
Ruby wasn’t the only one working the night shift. She worked with Y/N Y/L/N. Hardly anyone saw  Y/N working in the morning. This usually led to rumors that Y/N was hiding something.  The story was Y/N stayed locked in Rowena’s shop.
Rowena MacLeod was a private woman. However, she was a businesswoman, a loan shark, if you will. Rowena was very good at getting what she wanted through these tactics. She would let her client borrow money with the promise of paying it back fairly and on time. However, many clients don’t read the fine print in her contract.  Resulting in them having to pay double or triple what they borrowed. Rowena had helped Sam and Dean’s parents with a large sum of money to keep their business, Winchester Mechanics, afloat. Leaving their two sons, Sam and Dean, to foot the bill. Dean paid her as much as he could, but with not many people coming or going from Storybrooke, business was slow.
This left Sam to find a way to help Dean find a way to help pay Rowena back too. But he wasn’t having great success either. Sam had started working in Mr. Gold’s Pawn shop until he found himself interested in Law. Under Mr. Gold’s tutelage, Sam had become well versed in the laws created by the town council. This led him to also find work in the Sheriff's office as a prosecutor. Often being a rival for his own boss at the Pawn Shop. It only made Mr. Gold admire Sam more.
“Ruby, can you please help them?” Y/N begged, trying to hold back an eye-roll at the two men that walked in together, sitting across from one another. Having a conversation amongst themselves and trying to not get in an argument, again, over the amount of money they owed to Rowena. Their next payment was due within the week, and they didn’t have the funds.
“Sorry, Duckling, it's your turn. I helped them the other day.” She says, giving her a sentimental look.
Ruby had been watching Y/N and Sam’s exchanges cringing internally whenever they walked in the door, knowing Y/N would try and pass her along to either herself or Granny. Ruby heard rumors about why Y/N and Sam had disagreements, but their arguments were getting harsher with each passing day.
Y/N scoffed, rolling her eyes, grabbing her order pad, heading over to greet Sam and Dean.
“Evening, Y/N,” Dean says pleasantly.
Sam muttered under his breath a greeting, and it sounded like he muttered a nickname only her friends gave her, earning a glare from Y/N in Sam’s direction.
“What is it now, brains?” Y/N says. “Too buried in your debt to Rowena to speak louder and call me a name in front of my face?”
Dean sighed. Here they go again. “Just our usual if you would please,” he says, trying to cut the tension between the two.
Y/N nods glaring at Sam before she heads back to the kitchen.
“You didn’t need to butt in like that,” Sam scoffed. “I had it completely under control.”
“Oh sure, that’s why you and Y/N seem to fight or have some sort of disagreement every time we come in here?” Dean huffed,  “Who knows whatever the hell happens when you bump into her while she’s alone at Rowena’s,” Dean sassed,  “Oh wait, you’re too busy working at Gold’s shop, fighting for a chance to work a case in his place, or at the jail with Graham,” the elder brother snapped calmly.
“Says the man who works in a shop with no cars to work on,” Sam snapped back, “How’s Amaya? Did you ever fulfill your promise to help her out?
“You keep that bitch out of this,” Dean growled. “I’ll figure something out. For now, I’m gonna see if I can get a second job somewhere.”
“What do you mean? What other job could you get here? Think Granny can hire you as a short-order cook? At least she gets business!”
“It’s something to get the debt paid back to Rowena, Sam,” Dean muttered as Y/N brought out their meals. Both were polite, and their bickering died down, and they went back to talking about their days. As uneventful as they were, they had a lot to talk about.
Y/N sighed as she went back behind the counter, “Ruby, I’m gonna head to bed. Dawn wake-up call comes early.” She says with an eye roll.
“Goodnight, Duckling,” Ruby says, smiling kindly to her, “I’ll clean up.”
===========
Enchanted Forest
“Dean, is target practice really necessary?” Sam says, looking at him. “I need to be looking for Odette, not shooting powdered arrows over at the servants’ asses.”
“And what are you gonna do when you can’t hit your mark?” Dean questioned, “What of Odette needs saving from some Ogres, and you miss?”
“Is that before or after the fact that you're catching fireflies at all hours of the night?” Sam asks, crossing his arms in front of his chest. “Are they for you or to feed the frog that follows you around and hides on your dresser?”  he snaps, glaring at the older brother.
“I do not go out at night to catch fireflies for Amaya,” Dean scoffs, “besides, she goes out and catches her own meals.”
Rolling his eyes, Sam grabbed his red powdered covered arrows, game face on. Assuming the probability that Dean would let him win, again. Sam took an arrow from his quiver, sliding it into place. Pulling back the string once he nocked it, aiming it at his first mark, the butler, Crowley. Whom the brothers affectionately dressed up as a brown moose. The arrow left the nocking point, hitting its destined target in the center of his rounded ass.
“Hey!” Crowley muttered, rolling his eyes. He brushed off the powder as he glared at both of the brothers.
Dean was finding this amusing. The exercise was primarily for Sam. Why couldn’t he have fun too?
Just as Dean was about to take his shot, Castiel, the head advisor to his father, walked out onto the grounds. He intended to stop the game before it fully began. “Your Highness?”
Startled by the sudden interruption, Dean whipped around,  the arrow released from where it was nocked, hitting Castiel square into his chest. Before he could even react, a second followed by a third engulfed Cas in a powder of blue.
“If you children are quite finished,” he huffed, dusting the powder off himself, “my liege, you have a visitor. Something about a poisonous toad needing collecting?”
Dean fired one more arrow before stalking towards Castiel, “it better not be a waste of my time. My brother and I are training.”
“Training for a lost cause if you ask me, Sir,” Crowley says, observing the body language of his employer. “For all, we know the Princess is dead as well, just like her father. God rest his soul.” He adds, making the sign of the cross.
Sam’s head turned quickly at the Butler’s words echoed in his ear. Eyes flashed in anger, rushing over towards the pair. “Take it back! You don’t get to talk about Odette like that!”
“Forgive me, Samuel. However, I truly believe this to be a fool's errand,” Crowley says, standing closer to the trio gathered in the middle of the courtyard.
“I will find her, Crowley,” the younger prince declared, “I have to find her.”
Shaking his head, Dean followed Castiel inside to handle the visitor.
Needing an actual outlet for his anger, Sam walked with a fast pace over to the stables. The staff tended to the horses, but Sam usually liked taking care of his mare. It gave him a sense of responsibility.
Sam’s mare, Onyx, was a beautiful black Friesian. Her height was just above 18 hands, given his six foot four stature, she was just as tall as he was. Sam was okay with that though. Grabbing a body brush, Sam slowly brushed out her black coat. It had become dirty from the loose dirt flying around.
Meanwhile, as the sun set on the edge of the trees in the forest, a beautiful white swan flew across the canopy. Odette had grown accustomed to the dawn and the dusk. Knowing she had to be on the lake’s surface as the moon touched it before she would become a woman again.
As per her usual routine, Odette flew over Winchester Castle. Wondering if Sam would be looking for her. Who was she kidding? Sam only wanted to marry her for her beauty. Prince Samuel Winchester didn’t care about her.
Dusk approached, the swan moving to make her graceful descent down into the crystal colored water. “Was wondering if you were gonna be on time tonight dearie.” Rowena says, hands placed on her hips. Odette gave Rowena as much of a glare as a swan possibly could. The princess was always on time and never late. The other party that was never late was Rowena’s incompetant son Crowley.
“Evening Mother, Odette,” he greets, giving his mother a nod of acknowledgement. Crowley’s appearances had begun to be a routine over the past week. Rowena’s son came every evening, giving Rowena the opportunity to ask her the same proposition in order to remove the curse. Marrying her son.
Much to the annoyance of Rowena, Odette answered her the same as she had every single time she’d asked. One single word was her reply, but not the one the sorceress was looking for.
“No.”
“Oh for the love of Dagda” She scoffed, rolling her eyes skyward. Eyes focused back on the maiden that stood before her. Hair glowing in the shimmering moonlight. “Need I remind you, I placed this curse on you, and I can just as easily reverse it. All you need to do, is agree to marry my dear Fergus. Once you're wed, I can give you all the riches a Princess could ask for.”
“Far better than the Winchester’s that's for sure.” Crowley adds as a comment.
“I’d rather be a swan over marrying your childish, pathetic son.” Odette snapped.
“That can be arranged.” Rowena snapped, allowing the princess to mull over her choices.

Dean was worried. Sam was too, but he was still upset, so he pretended not to care. Dean was really worried. This wasn’t just skipping town and finding a case to work on her own, Y/N was gone. She wasn’t calling or texting or writing any damn letters. Just like dad.
“She probably just doesn’t want to talk to us.” Sam noted bitterly. Dean gave his younger brother a look.
“Arguement or not, she would call.” The youngest Winchester rolled his eyes. “I know you’ve been gone, Sam, but that hasn’t changed.”
“Are you going to get on my case too?” Sam challenged. Dean clenched his jaw.
“I’m just saying that we always let each other know where we are. That’s how it’s always been.” He paced back and forth around the hotel room, checking his phone again. Still nothing.
“I thought she could handle herself.” Sam muttered to himself. Dean whirled around, grabbing his brother by the collar.
“Alright, knock it off Sam.” He barked. “She’s your sister damnit. Act like it.”
“She sure didn’t last time we saw her!” Sam snapped back. Before Dean could respond, his phone finally rang. Giving Sam a deadly glare, he answered.
“Y/N? Where the hell have you been? What are you-”
“Dean… something is wrong… I’m home, but I’m not.” Your voice cut in and out, making it hard to understand your words. “You… Sam… Dean, I’m scared… this isn’t right… please… I need…” In the background, Dean could just make out the sound of a melody.
“Mr. Sandman… bring me a dream…”The call cut out.
“Y/N!” The panicked sound in his brother’s voice broke through Sam’s bitterness.
“What is it?”
“She’s in trouble, Sammy. We’ve gotta find her.”
“Trouble how?” Sam knew his older sister was a skilled hunter. Maybe even better than Dean. If she was in danger, it was something big.
“I don’t know, but I’ve got a really bad feeling.” Dean slipped his arms into his leather jacket and grabbed the keys to the impala.
“Well what did she say, Dean?” Sam was packing up as fast as he could move, following his brother’s frantic footsteps.
“I’m home, but I’m not.” Dean repeated, confusing forming a line between his brows. The creepy tone of the song echoed in his head.
“What the hell does that mean?”
“I don’t know.” Dean glanced down at the silver band on his finger. A pang of guilt and worry shot through his heart. He tried to shake all of the awful images forming in his head. “But at least we know where to find her.”
-
Your fist was clenched around your phone and your tank top was drenched with sweat.
“It wasn’t real. It wasn’t real. It wasn’t real.” You repeated it over and over again, but the flames still burned in your head. It felt real. You threw the blankets off and held back a scream. A large burn covered your right thigh, your flesh seared and oozing. The pain spread up through your leg, making you grimace as you moved.
The nightmare, or whatever the hell it was, was still fresh in your mind. You were at the house. You really only remembered it from pictures now, but you knew it was the one. Your brothers were with you, but you weren’t kids. Sam was coming home from college and Dean had a day off from the garage with your dad. And your mom… she was there. Everything seemed fine. You were happy.
And then the fire started. It spread out from your mother’s chest like her bones were kindling. Your dad disappeared and your brothers changed. Their eyes were black and they were reaching out with bloody hands. It wasn’t them. You knew it wasn’t them. You remembered pulling out your cell phone and calling Dean.
After that, you woke yourself up somehow, but not before the fire reached you. But… it was a dream. It wasn’t real. You stared down at your mystery wound. Then how the hell…
You finally took notice of the phone in your hand. It still had the last call pulled up. You hit dial and braced yourself for the panicked voice on the other line.
“Y/N? Are you okay? What the hell happened!” Your older brother yelled. You had to hold the phone away from your ear.
“I don’t…” You took a deep breath. “I don’t know. Did I call you last night, Dean?”
“Yeah you freaking called me! You said something about being home and you were scared and that something was wrong. So what the hell happened?”
“Dean, you need to calm down. I’m fine. I must have called you in my sleep.”
“Called me in your-” Dean scoffed, “Y/N what is going on?”
“Whatever it is, I’ve got it handled.” The last thing you needed was your paranoid big brother breathing down your neck on this case. You pulled your first aid kit out of your bag. You needed a clean towel. Hobbling to the door, you held the phone between your shoulder and your ear. “I don’t need your help on this one.”
You opened the door and let the phone fall to the floor.
“Too late.” Dean huffed, pushing past you into the motel room. To your surprise, your younger brother stood behind him, giving you a hard stare. You inhaled sharply.
“Hey Sammy.”
“It’s Sam.” He snapped. Dean shot him a look. You moved so he could come in and closed the door.
“What are you doing here, Dean?” You asked, ignoring the sting of Sam’s coolness.
“I could ask you the same thing. What’re you doing back in Lawrence? On Halloween?”
“I’ve got a case, okay? My case. And I don’t need you sniffing around to screw it up.”
“Oh my God, Y/N what happened to your leg?” Sam exclaimed, crouching down to get a better look at your injury. You shoved him away.
“Don’t worry about it.” Dean dug through your kit.
“Sit down.” He ordered. You rolled your eyes and plopped down on your bed, letting him examine the wound.
“I can handle this, Dean. You didn’t have to drag Sam out here.”
“You called me, remember? Now stop squirming.”
“I didn’t mean to call.” You said, annoyed with your subconscious. It was just a nightmare. You didn’t need your over-protective brothers to save you from a nightmare. Even if it did somehow spill into real life. You winced as Dean lightly touched the burn. “Careful!”
“Don’t be a baby.” He fired back, but you could see the worry in his expression.
“How did you get that?” Sam asked. He wasn’t meeting your gaze. You were sure he was asking out of mere curiosity, rather than genuine concern. You tried to think of a lie, but with both brothers’ eyes burning into you, you couldn’t figure out anything convincing.
“I don’t know.” You gritted your teeth to hold back a pained groan. “Do you know what you’re doing?”
“Of course I know what I’m doing. You think I haven’t had to treat a burn before?” Dean snapped. It was half true. Sam was still staring at you.
“What do you mean you don’t know?”
“I mean I don’t know, Sam. I woke up and my leg was barbequed.” Your brother’s exchanged a glance. Sam shifted his weight, rocking back on his heels.
“What were you dreaming about?”
“What?”
“In your dream, was there a fire or anything that could have caused a burn like that?” He pulled your father’s journal out of his jacket pocket and started searching. You bit the inside of your cheek. If you told them, they would think you couldn’t handle this alone. And after Andrew… you had to do this alone. To prove to yourself that you could still save someone.
“All I remember from the dream is a couple of dancing munchkins and a pair of red boots.” You spat. Sam’s lips formed a thin line, his fists balled up at his sides.
“Okay, you two, quit it.” Dean ordered. He bandaged up the burn the best he could and helped you stand before nearly tackling you in an embrace. “I thought whatever got Dad…” He trailed off, pushing away to give you a stern glare. “Never do that again.”
“Dean, I’m not thirteen anymore. I can handle myself.” You scoffed, feeling uncomfortable under his hard stare.
“If you’re going to go it alone, you call me once a week. That’s the rule.” His protective arms wrapped around you again, but you didn’t fight them.
You and Dean had always been close. With dad out on cases all the time, Dean practically raised you and Sam. He showed you how to fix up cars and he taught you how to drive them. When you had your heart broken in middle school by some asshole with a bowl cut, Dean was there to pick up the pieces- and give the kid a fat lip. He bought you your first beer and the two of you watched scary movies while Sam studied for some test.
“I’m sorry.” You conceded. You looked over to the youngest Winchester and he quickly looked away.
Your relationship with Sam had strained since he left for school. When you were kids, the two of you were practically inseparable. As the middle child, you were constantly resolving fights between him and Dean. Sam always went to you for help on his homework, even though he was the brainiac. You were sure he knew what he was doing, but he wanted to make you feel important. Little Sammy with his bright smile and hopeful eyes. He made you feel like you could do anything. When he left… you just felt stuck.
Maybe that’s the real reason you lashed out at him in Omaha.
“Well, you’ve checked in on me. I’m alive.” You started to usher both of them towards the door. “I promise I’ll call next time. Bye bye, boys.” You almost had them out of the room, but Sam jerked away.
“Wait a second, we’re not just going to leave.” He crossed his arms over his chest. “Something is seriously going on here.”
“It’s nothing I can’t handle, Sam.”
“Right, and that’s why you called us begging for help.”
“Well I don’t want or need your help, okay?”
“Why? Do you think I’ll screw this one up too?” He scoffed, shaking his head. “What was it you said? I should have stayed in school instead of pretending to be one of you.”
“I said a lot of things that day, Sammy.” And you regretted every damn one of them.
“It’s Sam!”
You hadn’t realized you were stepping towards each other until he was towering over you, seething with anger and hurt.
“Alright, that’s it!” Dean shouted, shoving in between the two of you. He pushed his little brother back and kept his eyes on you. “Sam, go out to the car.”
“Dean-”
“Now!”
Sam huffed and slammed the hotel room door behind him. Dean’s furious eyes remained on you.
“He started it.” You snapped. Dean ignored it.
“Cut the crap, Y/N. We both know you wouldn’t step foot in Lawrence if it wasn’t something big. So what is it?” He was right. Lawrence was just full of bad memories that you never wanted to revisit. But when you heard about what was going on, you couldn’t leave it be. Dean put his hands on your shoulders, holding you in place until you told him the truth.
“I got a call from a psychic named Missouri Moseley. Said she knows dad.” You started, recalling the events as you told him. “She said there were some strange deaths going on around here. People dying in their sleep, but not in a peaceful way. They would go to bed perfectly healthy and someone would find them the next morning, bloody and butchered. Each one with a look of absolute terror frozen on their face.”
“So what’re you thinking it is? Some kind of string of hexes? Pissed off ghost?”
“No, it’s bigger than that.” You sighed, running your fingers through your hair. “I did some research and I think what’s terrorizing our home town is a dream demon.” Dean made a face.
“What, like Freddy Krueger?”
“Kind of.” You rummaged through your piles of research on your desk until you found the book you wanted. “Like any other demon, the bastard has to possess someone. Once they do, they have the power to enter the minds of people they come in contact with.”
“Meaning what?”
“Meaning that they can kill someone inside a dream.”
“So Freddy Krueger.”
“Yes, Dean, like Freddy Krueger.” You rolled your eyes at your brother’s endless amount of references. And he called you the dork. Dean’s expression turned serious.
“Wait, so you decided to go after this thing alone?” He asked angrily.
“I had it covered.”
“Obviously not, because that thing got in your head!” He pointed to your leg and you tried not to look at his face. “Whatever happened in your dream, somewhere in that stubborn ass head of yours decided to call me and I’m glad it did.”
You knew, deep in your persistent heart, that he was right. You shouldn’t have tried to take this on by yourself. After Andrew you weren’t thinking straight. Andrew…
Dean sighed.
“I know that things have sucked for you lately and I haven’t been there. But you have to let me be there, kid. I can’t help you if you run off on a case by yourself.”
“I don’t need-” Looking at him now, you couldn’t lie anymore. Without hesitation, you wrapped your arms around your big brother. “Thank you.” Dean hugged you back, keeping you in a strong embrace until it was time to go.
Sam was cooling down in the car. He couldn’t get Andrew’s face out of his head. Didn’t Y/N realize that it haunted him too? That the sounds of the Acheri ripping the man apart added to his nightmares?
Andrew was a sheriff that the three had run into on a vengeful spirit case. Instead of shutting the hunters out, he helped the Winchesters defeat the creature that was destroying his town. Y/N, despite all her walls and barricades, fell for him. Both brothers warned her that it was a bad idea, but they started seeing each other. After burning the bones, they thought the case was over. Sam was so sure of it.
He was with Andrew when it happened. His siblings were out getting more beer and Andrew was telling him that he really liked Y/N. He said he was willing to make this crazy hunter life work if it meant being with her. The guy was smitten. Sam remembered being happy that at least one of them could have a happy ending. It reminded him of his almost-life with Jessica. He should have known how things would turn out.
The vengeful spirit was really an Acheri; a demon that takes the form of a little girl. He tried to stop it, but it was a strong son of a bitch. It was about to shred Sam when Andrew pushed him out of the way. He died to save him.
It wasn’t until after the funeral that his sister broke down. She said it was his fault. She had suggested that maybe the creature wasn’t a spirit, but he convinced her otherwise. She said a real hunter would have known. That he didn’t belong there. He should have stayed at Stanford. Dean, of course, ripped her a new one and Sam stormed off alone. She vanished soon after.
-
You listed every person you could remember being in contact with the day prior and Dean started the impala. You glanced pleadingly at your little brother, but Sam stared out the window. Dean gave you a small smile.
“Let’s start with the coroner.” You suggested. “She seemed oddly eager about this whole situation.” Dean nodded and started down the road.
You leaned your head back, feeling a rush of exhaustion. You had only gotten maybe two hours of sleep, and even then, the nightmare had kept your mind from resting. Your sudden fatigue didn’t go unnoticed.
“Hey, are you sure you’re up for this?” Dean asked. You nodded, giving him a sarcastic thumbs up. He rolled his eyes and kept driving, glancing back at you in the rearview mirror. He put in a cassette tape and let the sounds of Metallica fill the car. Enter the Sandman. Huh. Kind of ironic.
You couldn’t have closed your eyes for more than a few seconds. You were just so tired…
“Dean, stop the car!” Sam yelled suddenly. Dean slammed on the breaks when he saw his sister’s unconscious face. This wasn’t a peaceful nap. Something was wrong. You started jerking back and forth, your body restrained by your seatbelt.
“Son of a bitch,” Dean muttered, flinging the driver’s side door open and getting into the back seat. “Sam! What do we do?” Sam panicked, searching his memory for anything he knew about the demon. Unfortunately, none of the facts brought any comfort.
“If it’s in her head… there’s nothing we can do.” He watched you thrash with a look of desperation.
“What do you mean there’s nothing we can do!”
“Dream demons can’t be exercised when they’re in a dream.”
“We can’t just let it kill her!”
“There might be a way… but it’s risky.”
“I don’t care what it is, we are not losing anyone else in this family, Sammy.” Dean clutched your hand, the terror on your face shooting pain through his heart. His baby sister was crying out for help and he didn’t know how.
“We’ve got to find that coroner.”
-
Sure enough, you were right. When Sam and Dean found the coroner, she was passed out on her desk with a broad smile on her face. The demon must not be able to invade two minds at once.
“Now what?” Dean asked, carrying your flailing body inside.
“I think…” Sam hesitated. Would this really work? “I think if we can get inside the demon’s head, we can get inside Y/N’s.”
“And kick the demon out so we can send it back to hell?”
“Exactly.”
“How do we get in its head?” Dean asked. Sam shrugged.
“Well, it works through who it has physical contact with right?” Dean nodded. “Well, then theoretically…” Sam slowly put his hand on the woman’s shoulder and collapsed on the floor.
“Sammy!” Dean exclaimed. There was no other option now. He set you down besides Sam. “Don’t worry, kid, we’re comin to get you.” Without hesitation, he grabbed the woman’s arm and fell into a deep sleep.
-
“Sam! Y/N!” Dean yelled into the dark and empty house. Sam appeared at the end of the hall. “Did you find her?” He shook his head. Dean looked around. “Where the hell are we?”
“In Y/N’s head.” Sam grimaced, surveying their grim surroundings. He recognized it almost immediately. “This is where Andrew died.”
The Winchester brothers tread carefully through the halls. It wasn’t until they climbed the stairs that they heard their sister’s screaming. They sprinted towards the noise, finding you in the corner of the bedroom, pinned against the wall. The manifestation of a little girl clawed a large mark down your chest. You tried to bite back your scream, but you couldn’t help it.
Lying on the bed was the torn up body of Andrew.
“Sam! Dean! Run!” You cried. You couldn’t bear to lose them too. They stood their ground.
“Y/N, you have to fight it. If we can get this thing out of your head, we can send it back to hell!” Sam shouted.
“I can’t!” You screamed again as the demon scratched your face.
“Get away from her!” Dean lunged forward and the demon tossed him like a rag doll.
“Dean!” Sam started after him, but the demon overpowered him as well.
“No!” You struggled against the force keeping you back. The demon morphed into Andrew, but instead of his soft blue eyes, they were menacing and yellow.
“This is what you fear the most, isn’t it?” The demon sneered, using Andrew’s voice against you. Sam and Dean were lifted up to the ceiling. “Losing them to ol’ Yellow-Eyes. You’re afraid you’ve already lost daddy and big and baby brother are soon to follow. You’re afraid you’ll be left all alone.”
“Don’t listen to him!” Dean shouted.
“Are you just going to let it happen, Y/N?” The demon laughed. “Look at little Sammy. He’s not ready to die.”
“This is just in my head. This isn’t real.” You muttered, screwing your eyes shut.
“Wrong-o. Looks like the Winchester boys crashed the party. If they burn in here…” The demon made the motion of an explosion with his hands. He cackled at your horrified expression. You looked up at your brothers, both of them writhing from pain. Just like mom. You took a deep breath and prayed that this would work.
“Exorcizamus te, omnis immundus spiritus, omnis satanica potestas…”
“You little bitch.” The demon snapped. He moved forward, but was stopped by the devil’s trap that you had conjured.
“We’re in my head, remember?” You continued the incantation. Dean looked impressed and Sam couldn’t help but smile. You had studied the exorcism together after the demon from the plane. The demon shrieked and Sam and Dean fell.
-
The boys woke up. You didn’t.
You weren’t thrashing anymore, either. You were totally still. Dean was frozen, staring down at you, trying to hold back his pain.
“Y/N?” Sam whispered, kneeling over you. “Come on, wake up.” He gently shook your shoulders. “Y/N wake up.”
“Sam-”
“She thinks I hate her, Dean.” Sam cried, desperately trying to get you to open your eyes. “My own sister. I never said I was sorry. I never… oh god, she thinks I hate her!” Sam buried his head in your shoulder and Dean was forced to watch. He couldn’t move or breathe or talk. It wasn’t until he saw the slightest flutter of movement that he was able to join Sam by your side.
“Hey kid.” Dean smiled as your eyes slowly opened. Sam snatched you up in an embrace before you could even sit up.
“I thought you were… I was so…” He stammered, squeezing you tighter. You wrapped your arms around him, feeling tears welling up in your eyes.
“I’m sorry too, Sammy.”
The two of you sat there for a while. When you finally pulled away, you were immediately pulled into Dean’s arms.
“That was pretty badass in there.” He chuckled. You smirked.
“Well I couldn’t let Dream Douche hurt my boys, could I?” The three of you laughed. A low, rumbling growl sounded from the awakening woman.
“You’ve got to be kidding me.” Dean groaned. You weren’t finished yet. The demon still had to be exorcised from the coroner before it could hurt anyone else.
The three Winchesters gathered around it and you leaned in as it’s black eyes opened.
“Trick or treat?” You spat, landing a knock-out punch to its face.

Chapter 6
Y/N waited patiently. For 3 whole minutes.
“You want me to trust you, right?” It was a rhetorical question but the brothers still nodded, looking suitably chastised.
Dean sighed, frustrated at his lack of control in the situation. He looked at Sam who just looked worriedly at Y/N, which reminded Dean that she had been crying and he should probably check if she was alright.
“Let’s go inside first, you’re not even wearing shoes,” Dean said lightly, trying to subtly get Y/N out of the cold. She eyed him suspiciously but agreed to go inside. Her feet were cold but Dean didn’t have to know that. The door closed behind them as they made their way inside.
“You doing okay?” Dean not-so-subtly tried to change the subject, but Y/N was just not having it. She merely looked at the hunter and raised her eyebrows, waiting for a response to her previous inquiry.
He looked frustratedly at his brother and sharply exhaled, feeling the exhaustion catch up to him.
“Our friend thinks you might be in danger,” Dean started slowly. “He isn’t convinced that you being here on the same hunt as us is a coincidence. Which, you know, I can’t really blame him. Coincidences aren’t too common in our line of work. Even more so if we’re to believe the whole paternity… aspect of the situation – yes, I know nothing is confirmed yet,” he interrupted before she could protest. She glared at the wall angrily.
“Look, we have to work under the assumption that it is true for the moment, at least until we know more. It’s better to play it safe instead of having a false sense of security. Now, you being related to us makes you a target, so we need to keep you safe. So, you need to decide now – you wanna come with us or are we putting extra security measures at Jody’s?”
“Who’s this friend of yours? And how do you even plan on ‘knowing more’? Last I checked, you were still legally dead!” she burst out. “And just to remind you, I’m not some helpless child. I’ve survived on my own for years, I don’t need your protection.” She knew she was being spiteful, but she pushed down the pang of guilt that was creeping in.
Sam waited for Dean to explode. He knew his brother very well and Dean didn’t do the ‘talking reasonably’ thing for too long. He was actually proud of Dean for keeping his composure for so long. He knew that if it was him who was in danger, Dean would have knocked him out and dragged him to the bunker if necessary. He could just imagine how well that approach would work with Y/N. So, Sam waited to see how his brother would react, prepared to jump in and salvage the situation if needed. But again, Dean surprised him.
He walked up to where she was sitting on Sam’s bed and knelt in front of her, forcing her to look at him instead of the wall. “I know you’re good at taking care of yourself, alright? You wanna cut out the bullshit and get real with me for a second? You’re strong and resourceful, yes – but kid, this is a different ball game we play here. Hunters who have had years and years of experience don’t survive long in our world. I just want to keep you safe, that’s all. Just… work with me here Y/N.”
“We promise we will figure everything out. Just come with us, please,” Sam chimed in, puppy dog eyes in full effect.
Y/N’s nails dug into her palms as she tried to process everything. She felt Dean’s hands take her own, rubbing over the crescent shaped indents she created.
“As for your other questions – Our friend is Cas, or Castiel. He’s an angel, and I believe he can help with the whole getting answers thing. He can explain how later, if you agree to come back home with us. What do you say, kiddo? We taking a road trip home to Kansas or am I ringing up Jody about setting up a guest room? It’s your choice, but I for one need to know if I should be summoning Sandra’s ghost and yelling at her for not telling me about my daughter.”
Dean’s voice was gruff with emotion and Sam almost felt like he was intruding a private moment, but then Y/N looked at him – with Dean’s eyes, he realized – and he felt the familiar protective instinct flare up, only a thousand times worse. He’d always been the little brother, the one who needed to be protected, and while he felt protective over his big brother, he also knew Dean could take care of himself. So, this new dynamic was something of an adjustment, and he wondered if Dean had felt like this his entire life. He couldn’t imagine how he hid it so well.
“Fine,” the soft voice broke the tense silence in the room. Y/N refused to make eye contact, even with Dean kneeling in front of her. His knees had started to hurt but he didn’t care. He was close to a breakthrough and he could feel it. The words registered with the brothers and Dean’s hands tightened over Y/N’s as they waited for her to continue.
“I’ll go with you… but only for now. I don’t promise anything. I can’t. And, if it isn’t working, I’m out. Those are my conditions,” she somehow got the words out, hands shaking even in Dean’s grip.
Dean wasn’t happy with it, but as he looked at Sam, he knew this was the best he was gonna get for now. He opened his mouth to agree with her, even if it was just to get her to the damn bunker and to safety, when she continued.
“And can we press pause on the family talk? I need to talk to your friend first before I make a decision on that subject,” her voice was barely there, but she ignored Dean’s clenched jaw in favour of getting the words out. She needed his reassurance that he wouldn’t pressure her to take whatever angelic DNA test he had in mind. Maybe she would feel better after talking to the angel, which – she couldn’t believe she was gonna meet an actual angel – but until then, she didn’t want to hear about it. She needed to process the information first.
“Please,” she said before Dean could interrupt. Even Sam looked bummed at her request but her at least understood where she was coming from. He had, after all, seen her epic break down earlier. She forced herself to ignore the hurt look in Dean’s eyes and tried to remind herself that – no, she didn’t care about these guys more than any other tentative friends, but it was hard. The hurt vanished and hid behind the classic Dean mask, as he tried to smile back at her, and she felt even worse if that was possible.
“Well, we have a long drive ahead of us so let me know if you change your mind,” he cleared his throat as he stood up and walked to the fridge in search of another beer.
“We’ll head out in the morning after breakfast. That reminds me, you hungry Y/N? None of us technically had dinner. I can run out and grab us something,” Sam tried to diffuse the tension in the room.
Y/N was hungry. They had split up during the day and she had been running low on cash the past couple of days, making her skip lunch that afternoon. So, the last thing she had eaten was the breakfast the Winchesters had provided for her. She usually had a better control of her hunger – life on the streets wasn’t the best for a young girl – but the boys had been feeding her regularly during their time together, barring that afternoon, so her body had grown accustomed to the food. Which was why, as soon as she was reminded of it, her stomach grumbled loudly, making Sam smile as her face grew red with embarrassment. She didn’t want to take advantage of their generosity, so she just told Sam to get whatever he wanted to eat. She would be grateful for any food they provided for her.
“Get extra food today, Sammy. I worked up an appetite earlier.” Dean had found it odd that Y/N never asked for anything but now it made sense. He knew that the kid wouldn’t let them know if she wanted more food, he recognized that particular trait from his own childhood – which made him want to throttle Sandra. The Sandy he knew was cold and calculating, but she also had a good heart. He couldn’t figure out why she would raise a kid in the hunting life, and if she was alive, he would have been tempted to knock some sense into her. It didn’t seem like she was the most affectionate mother either, if Y/N’s reactions were anything to go by. He didn’t miss the flinch when he grabbed her hands earlier, and the thought of her hurt made him see red.
Sam merely nodded at his brother’s request, seeing through the thin excuse. He looked at Y/N and decided to forgo his normal healthy food in favour of some greasy goodness instead. The kid deserved a treat. Grabbing the keys for the Impala, he walked out and the door shut behind him, leaving Y/N and Dean awkwardly standing around in the room.
“How did you know her?” Y/N’s voice seemed to echo in the room. Dean instantly knew who she was talking about.
“I met her when I was seventeen. She saved my ass actually. I was on a hunt with my Dad and it was just us that day. It was ghouls, I think. Dad was knocked out and I was outnumbered but then she came in and kicked their asses. She was a brilliant hunter you know,” Dean smiled softly at the memory.
“Anyway, we got to talking and realized that we had a lot in common. So, we kept in touch. We would get together when we were in the same town but both of us knew we didn’t want anything serious. Honestly, I never pictured her having kids. She didn’t seem to want any at that time but I guess people change.”
“No, they don’t,” she replied as a tear slid down her cheek. She had cried more that day than she had in the past four years and it frustrated her to no end. Normally, she knew how to numb herself, but something about the Winchesters made her want to tell them everything and she hated it, hated feeling so weak. If this was what living with them was going to be like, she wanted out already.
Dean’s heart dropped at Y/N’s words. He hated that she grew up feeling so alone and he promised himself that he would give that kid a home, regardless of whether she was his.
They sat in silence after that, but surprisingly it wasn’t uncomfortable. Y/N was almost dozing off again when Sam returned with the food. The heavenly smell of burgers jerked her wide awake and Dean tried to hide his grin at her reaction.
She waited until Sam and Dean had taken their fill before moving to take a small portion of fries with her burger, making the boys look at each other worriedly. Clearly, things were worse than they had imagined. They had a long road ahead of them.
After dinner, it was decided that they would move out first thing in the morning and Dean proposed getting some shut eye. Neither of them wanted to let Y/N out of their sight but one raised eyebrow from her had them surrendering and she went back to her own room to sleep. If the brothers got up periodically to check on her throughout the night, she didn’t have to know that.
The next morning, she nervously picked at her duffle bag as the brothers handled the check out. This was it, her last chance at backing out. She could make a run for it and they wouldn’t know until it was too late, but her feet remained planted to the ground. Sam walked out first, Dean following closely. No backing out now. Dean opened the trunk and threw their stuff in, and they all shuffled into the car – Dean in the driver’s seat, Sam beside him and Y/N sat stiffly in the back seat.
Sam turned around to look at her, silently asking if she was alright. She nodded slightly but continued to fidget in her seat. Dean caught her eye in the rear-view mirror and held her gaze for a minute before he started the car. Over the loud rumble of the engine he said, “Let’s go home, kiddo.”

Heart in My Hand (15x18 “Despair” coda, Dean-centric, Destiel. post-that scene)
(ao3 link)
He was right there.
Cas was telling Dean everything he ever wanted to hear since meeting the angel of the Lord... only each and every word of his confession stabbed at Dean's heart. Because once he finished, there's no more time for them. For him. For any chance of happiness - all that taken away by the Empty. And now he has to carry on.
He tries. Stands, gets in his car and drives where Sam tells him. When he meets with the others, though...
Dean spots them easily, only two people left on the planet besides himself. Standing in the middle of the street, waiting. He rolls to a stop near some crashed truck and an abandoned bag of groceries that spills out the top. Egg yolks oozing into a small puddle, mixing with freely leaking juice burning bright against dark asphalt. Visible even from where he sits inside his car.
With Sam and Jack advancing, Dean crams the rest of his emotions down. Puts on a brave face. What he sees in his rearview isn’t anything like that. Trembling lips. Red, blotchy skin. Wide eyes that look more haunted than an average, Midwestern home. It’s better than how he appeared earlier. And since they’re already here, he must move on. Steeling himself, he exits his car.
“Dean,” Jack starts, glancing from him to his empty car, “Where’s Cas?”
Dean fails, again. “Cas…” He croaks, words blocked by the boulder that wedged into his throat once that black portal of despair vanished. Water traces familiar pathways down his cheeks, Dean steadying himself on his open door. Hisses panicked breaths through clenched teeth. “Cas, he…”
“Oh.” Sam stumbles backwards, news dealing its own damage. Jack stares at Dean, jaw hanging limply. Gaze wet from threatening tears. “Was it…” his brother coughs, regaining his footing, “was it Billie?”
He shakes his head, still not ready to speak. Voice abandoning him like… well.
“Chuck?” Jack asks, inching closer. “Did Chuck make him crumble, too?”
Dean nearly forgot. Chuck… if only. His anger would have a target, instead of hanging around him as if it were a fog. Miasma thick he cannot see past a never-ending reel of those few, long minutes. Cas’s parting message replaying ad nauseum. “No,” he manages, staring at Baby’s roof. “No, he – he sacrificed… to take out… to save…” Gasping, Dean lolls his head upwards. Staring up at an empty sky, sending what’s left of his sentence into the heavens.
Someone approaches, lays a hand on his elbow. There because it hovered over Dean’s shoulder and chose a different path. Dean felt how close it came to fitting over his angel’s mark. Heard a sharp intake of breath after they noticed it, confirming Dean’s suspicion. “Dean,” Sam says – of course it’d be him. He recognizes his little brother’s voice. Especially when he forces confidence through his tone. It lacks, however, as an undercurrent of worry threaded through it. “Dean,” he continues, “what happened?”
First, he searches for Jack. The younger boy leans across from Dean, waiting. Curious. Heartbroken. “He,” Dean whispers, knees buckling under him, “Billie was out for blood and – and we couldn’t stop her on our own. So Cas, he…” Sam’s grip tightens on his elbow, adds another supportive touch to Dean’s armpit. Keeps him standing. Dean thanks Sam by letting his hands stay. “We were dead to rights. So Cas… let himself be happy.”
Jack’s muttered curse resolves a lingering question, whether he knew. Doubly confirmed since Jack draws further attention to himself, slamming his fist on Baby’s roof. Dean doesn’t raise his usual objections. “The Empty,” he says.
“The Empty?” Sam glances between Jack and Dean, “What would… why would the Empty be there? When Cas is happy – what are you talking about?”
“A deal Sammy,” Dean says. Louder, rougher. Shattering the eerie silence of this deserted city scape. “He made a deal with that damned thing, his life for… for…”
“For mine.” Jack tilts his head, brows drawn in such a mirror of his father Dean nearly collapses where he stood. He remains strong. “When I was in Heaven, after I… I died, the first time.” Sighing, he stretches towards them. Extending an empty palm in a gesture of regret. “I’m… I’m so sorry –“
“No.” Dean slides his own hand, taking Jack’s. Squeezes it. Grounding himself further. “I don’t… it’s not your fault. Cas made the deal. He – he’s made his choice. It’s… if he had the chance to go back, he’d still do it. Again and again. That’s who he is.” Dean hiccups, face cracking as his mouth stretches wide, gracing the others with a rueful smile. “Putting everyone’s needs before himself even if it… even if it meant he could never…” He shudders, Cas’s peaceful expression when the Empty struck frozen in his mind. “Too good, Cas was – he was too good –“
“Dean, Dean!” Sam tore Dean away from Jack and Baby, carrying him off to sit on the sidewalk’s curb. Bent him, head between knees, helping him work past growing hysterics. Jack followed them, hovering. Shadow blocking the sun from shining above, casting him in darkness. Thinking this makes Dean spiral further. “Breathe Dean, just breathe.”
It’s stupid. Dean wastes valuable time, their world crumbling all around them. And what is he doing? Crying. Making Sam and Jack comfort him because Dean lost the shovel he usually buries his feelings with. Empty probably taking that, too. It’s stupid. Maddening. Also, completely unavoidable.
Dean wondered if, one day, he might shatter so completely gathering those pieces might prove impossible. He has his answer, at the worst possible moment.
Soon he calms, and Dean can lift his head without flashing back there.
“Dean…” Sam starts, cautiously. Treating Dean too carefully given how far into this war they’re in. “Dean, Cas’s deal… the Empty wanted him happy?” Nodding, Dean waits for the next question. Dreading it. “What… what did he do?”
Sam hadn’t broken down, when they found Eileen’s duffel – and her phone. Recovered best he could and shouldered his pain. Allowed those seconds of grief, then used it as fuel. Whereas Dean drags his suffering into eternity. Mourns his best friend, and their lost potential. A stolen future. Years spent in denial. If he’d taken a chance earlier… at some point. “Cas,” Dean sighs, “he let himself… he confessed…” Explaining it was too difficult, but Sam needed to know. Jack, too. “He loved me, Sam.” Laughing, Dean wipes at his eyes. “He loved me, after all I – he still… he loved me, and that killed him.” Whispering, he repeats, “He loved me.”
Sam’s features shifted, journeying from shock to a pitying understanding. Rubs comfortingly at his back, sighing. “Loving you was what made him happiest?”
“Yeah… it was, it was so simple…” Dean uncurls, teetering, flirting with the idea of lying on his back. He and Jack trade a fleeting glance, Dean checking his reaction. Not surprised in the slightest. Kid’s too damned insightful. “Just admitting it was enough and… and you know what he said? He said he… Cas believed it was something he could never have?” His chest tightens, and Dean scoffs. “I don’t… how could that be – how could loving me be, I’m… how can I be Cas’s happiness? Out of all he could have had, and what he wanted was me – what I… what I thought I could never have.”
“Don’t say that Dean,” Sam admonishes, “you are worthy of having love.”
Shrugging, Dean turns from his and Jack’s heavy stares. Looks at the pooling egg yolk again; focuses on that spreading mess. “Cas said about as much, before the Empty… had this whole speech that I – it felt like I was being peeled away. Called me out for… it all feels so meaningless. Is that what it felt like, with Eileen? Being with someone who can see through you and make all this big stuff seem – well, seem not so big anymore?” Sam agrees, as much. “There we were Billie hot on our heels. Waiting for death, and he spits out the most beautiful thing I’ve ever heard. I almost forgot what was going on. It was just him and me… him seeing – seeing me. And you know what I did? Not a goddamn thing…”
           “Dean…”
“I could barely speak, I – I was so scared,” Dean admits, “if you’d’ve been there Sam, the look of – look of finality that was there, alongside the love, and peace, and happiness. I always wanted to hear him say that, couldn’t predict him saying all of that… I wouldve traded it if it meant he’d stay. And I can – I get to have him in the only way we could. But he made up his mind, like with Jack. Took Billie down, and him, too. Leaving me there – alone – that it… when I finally said it back, I was too late.”
They echoed. Hung in the air. Mingled with Cas’s blood on his sleeve and the fresh tears pouring out of him. Shook Dean down to the very core of his being, barely hearing it past the low pitch of static filling his ears. Dean thought those words innumerably before, imagined different scenarios, played pretend in the comfort of his room where no one can see.
           No one ever will, now.
“I…” Dean tries saying his truth. It doesn’t want to come out. He continues regardless, “I miss him, Sam. Why do we do this? Hurt everyone we’ve ever cared about? Hell, the whole world’s collateral damage because of us!” Exhausted, Dean gives in. Falls fully off the cliff, lying on the sidewalk. Arms spread beside him while he watches endless blue.
Sam squeezes his knee, I miss her too. I miss them all.” He stands, adding another shadow. Jack’s advancing, too. Blanketing Dean in a strange temperature. Not cold, still there’s an absence of warmth he notes. “But it’s not on us. It’s Chuck. Always has been…”
“Then is this it?” Dean asks, “One last play, even if it kills us? Even if it can’t bring everyone back?”
“At least we died fighting, then.”
Dean cannot argue with this. He doesn’t feel too inclined to move yet. “For them,” he says, closing his eyes. “This isn’t about us, anymore. It’s about all of them. The world… our family… Eileen and – and Cas.”
Their shadows move. He senses them leave, sunlight returning. Bringing with it more memories. Of how it felt first hearing Cas say it. A natural glow that lit from within. Snuffed in Cas’s next breath, as Billie’s fist pounded on the door, and when the bitterness of Cas’s declaration hit his tastebuds. Dean grasps for that feeling, basking under the sun. Pretends it’s Cas giving him that gorgeous, soul-shattering smile. Encouraging him into his final battle. Telling him it’ll be over soon, he’ll be done, and that he loves him.
He loves him. He loves him. He loves him.
           “I love you Cas.”
Dean will rise. Gather what little he, Sam, and Jack have and rush at Chuck until there truly is nothing left. Of this world. Or of them. But that’s later.
Right now, Dean dreams of his losses. Apologizes, one by one, faces blurring together as he starts counting strangers his mind saved for no purpose other than to make him carry more crosses.  Never his, though.
Cas’s face shines uninterrupted, clearly, like the sun. There even as everything else fades. In the safety of his mind, where the Empty can’t steal him. In the safety of his heart, that Chuck can’t control. In his hands, wearing Cas’s blood like a badge of honor and pride.
           And love.

Hey for prompts, Sam was watching Queer eye and Dean decided to join him for shits but it's the episode where they help a young trans man find himself and Dean has a small breakdown. (Specifically, the not-having-to-be-masc-100%-all-the-time and still be trans, and to still be able to play with clothes and styles)
i went back and watched part of this ep to remind me, that’s why it took me a sec. also took me a sec bc it’s been a WEEK for this trans man and even thinking about a point in which I am read enough as a guy to think about wearing feminine things as a guy gives me... feelings. ANYWAY enough about me, let’s read this
love you friend, hope you like it
Sam watches Queer Eye a while ago, when he was in a slump, and now he saves the episodes for bad days like Dean hoards brownie mixes in the pantry for when he feels really shitty. Dean’s walking past the living room with a beer when he hears somebody say “top surgery” and because he’s a nosy motherfucker, he peeks in. Sure enough, footage of some dude’s surgery is on the screen and Tan France is talking about how he doesn’t know anything about trans people.
Dean snorts and comes in, slumping down onto his chair. Sam looks up at him with a start. “Hate that. Learn your fucking history, dickhead.”
“Don’t call Tan a dickhead.”
“Sh, you’re just protective because you like swiss-tying your shirts or whatever.”
“French tuck.” Sam bitched, well aware Dean was being a jerk on purpose. “Besides, he needs to say it on the show, to learn and all that.”
Dean shrugs and steals a chip from Sam. They’re plantain chips, but they’re salty, so they’re good enough. He grins at the trans guy’s cat pee couch, “Cas would love that.” Sam is excited to learn how to make sushi via Antoni. They both go quiet when Skyler talks to Bobby about how his family didn’t accept him, and Dean draws his knees up to his chest. Unbidden, he knows they’re both thinking about all the shitty things their dad, their family, their hunter friends, random acquaintances have said to them throughout the years, whether knowing it was bad or not. Somehow those comments are never really forgotten.
On the screen, the same thing is echoed:
“I was always a really angry kid… because every day of my life, I wore a mask. So when you’re hearing constantly from the people that mean the most to you that what you are is awful…”
“You’re awful.”
“Yeah. And unacceptable. It really does a number on you.”
“Yeah.”
“So I was just pissed all the time.”
Sam clears their throat.
The episode continues.
Skyler talks about being misgendered during surgery. “Yeah, me too man. You try getting top surgery 20 years ago.” Dean scoffs at the screen. Sam grins at him, like he always does when he talks to the TV. He always teases him that it’s an old man thing to do.
Tan and Skyler talk about his style. It’s androgynous. “Dean, why don’t you ever wear stuff like that?”
Dean glares at him, looking from the flashy clothes to his brother. “I’m a dude.”
“So is Skyler.”
“Yeah but I’m a guy like…” he tries to think of how to make Sam understand. “I’m a guy like Bobby.” he’d almost said John, but changed last minute. He didn’t want to open that can of worms. He hadn’t worn his dad’s coat in years.
“I thought you said you liked skirts.”
Dean stares resolutely at the screen, hoping Sam will get the hint. He does, sighing, and returns to the episode. There is an awesome moment where Skyler gets fitted for a suit, and Dean can feel the jealousy coursing through his veins. The baggy Fed suits hanging in his closet come to mind.
Skyler dresses in a sequined blazer and meets Todrick, his gender-bending gay idol, and they share a tearfilled conversation that Sam himself sniffs at.
“You were so important to my transition, and recognizing that I am feminine and I am masculine, and that gets put into this perfect little ball that is me. But it took me a long time to be okay with that feminine side and seeing another queer man like you that owned all of it and just was so fabulous...”
Dean’s heart is clenching in his chest, and he digs his fingernails into his knees. His mind is stuck on the pair of satin panties he has in his underwear drawer, the pair he’s too afraid to ever wear just in case he got in a massive car accident and they had to cut open his pants or he had to do some emergency plumbing and bend down under the sink. Just in case anyone saw and thought... When the next episode starts, Dean reaches over to grab the remote and pause the TV. Sam looks at him expectantly. “Everyone looks hot in fishnets. Right?”
Sam laughs, but quiets quickly at the serious look on Dean’s face. “Yeah, sure. Everybody looks good in fishnets, I guess. Completely gender inclusive product.”
Dean rolls his eyes. “I just don’t-” he stops and works his jaw. Sam seems to get it. They’re used to choosing more conservative choices when he goes out, but when he chooses feminine ones, he relishes in the gender confusion he gives people. Dean just can’t stop thinking about how tiny his waist is or how big his hips are. How much of him shows. The idea that someone might confuse him for a girl. Again.
“Yeah. I know.” Sam says softly.
Dean nods. Nothing to do about it. “Guess I just have to quit being such a pussy, don’t I. Let people think what they think.”
“Other people perceiving you as a man doesn’t make you a man, Dean. Same way it doesn’t make me one.” Sam nudges his leg with his socked foot, and Dean reluctantly looks him in the eyes. “You’re a man. Even if you wear a skirt. Or fishnets.”
Dean clears his throat and stands up. “Yeah, I know.”
“Hey, I’m pretty sure Cas thinks fishnets are hot too.”
“Fuck you.” Dean bursts out laughing and stands up. “Alright… maybe.”
He can still hear Sam laughing as he continues down the hallway.

Shifting into the supernatural
Sam x reader (platonic), Dean x reader (platonic)
Summary: Y/N has a tendency to leave her world for the supernatural word and Sam Wonder why.
A/N: From what I understand shifting is a super realistic version of lucid dreaming. It is a big thing on tik tok at the moment. So that is where I got the inspiration for this fic. I have not attempted to shift realities so I am not 100% sure how it works so if you are interested in attempting to shift watch a youtube video and do research.
Tumblr media
I sat in the small hotel bathtub. My knees pulled into my chest at an attempt to make myself as small as possible. The tub was only about 4 feet long and half that deep, which didn't mix well when you put two people in it. Especially when one of them was Sam Winchester who stood at 6’4” without shoes. Sam let out a small grunt as he tried to sit up taller, his left foot kicking me in the back.
“Sorry.” He mumbled, moving around trying to fit his legs at a more comfortable angle. I quickly shushed him. Dean was just outside of the door, a girl screaming at him as he calmly tried to explain why he was also sleeping with her friend after their night of so-called “passion”. It would be quite funny if he hadn’t forced Sam and I into the bathroom after getting the angry call from said girl claiming she was coming to get “something off her chest”. I am pretty sure he thought she was gonna come in, rant about her day, and then take him away to have a “good” time, meaning Sammy and I would only be in the bathtub for the five minutes it took Dean to suggest heading back to her place. But when she came in yelling about Dean being a “no good dirty bastard” we knew we would be in here for a while.
The creaking under Sam's weight felt like the loudest sound for miles, even though it hardly made a dent against the sound waves traveling from the hotel room. The yelling soon grew repetitive and old, no longer being gossip to hold against Dean. I looked at Sam for a while, trying not to laugh as he grimaced about the details the girl was giving about her night with Dean. Dean’s voice soon came into the conversation. Sam and I had both zoned it out at that point.
“Kid, there actually is something I have been meaning to ask you,” I nodded at him to continue. “Why do you come here?'' The question stumped me. I knew why I shifted into their world everyday, why I sat anxiously in my last class waiting for the bell to ring so I could come here and be with them. Why I hold in a tiny breath every time I start to shift, praying that this still works. I had just never had to put those feelings into words. Now all of the words I was  thinking felt wrong. Like the weight of them didn’t match the weight in my heart.
“Not that we don’t love to have you here Y/N. I mean we wait around all morning for you to get here. I just don’t understand why. You’ve told us about your world. There are no monsters or demons or angels in your world. No looming apocalypse every year or death waiting around the corner. You are safe there, so why come here?”
They waited for me, they sat here anxiously waiting to see if I would show up. That’s why I came here, I thought.
“I matter here, Sammy,” he looked confused at me, his puppy dogs eyes shining through. “At home I am always second best. You know the friend you talk to after your first friend said no. Or the filler friend until you can find someone better to replace me. I am average in my classes and just in life in general, but here; I matter. I am on Team Free Will, saving the earth.” My voice starts to lose its edge and volume. “I am truly loved here, you and Dean and Cas make everything better. I guess because you care about me so deeply, that it makes me care about myself. So you’re right, no death threatening event in my world, but also, no you. No Dean. No Cas. Hell I would appreciate Crowley being in my world.” We both let out a laugh that dies down quickly as we soak up the new knowledge we were each given.
Sam suddenly had that protective big brother look on his face, the one that was normally displayed on Dean's face. It felt weird to go from being the one that cares and makes sure everyone is okay to being looked at like a fragile being that someone else is willing to hold together while you fall apart. I cried the first time Dean looked at me like that, I wanted to be mad and tell him piss off that. I didn’t need a big brother to watch over me. I had gone my whole life without one, but the truth was, I desperately needed a big brother and now I am realizing, I needed two.
“Don’t tell Dean though, don't need him getting all sappy on me.” We both let out a loud chuckle that rippled off the small bathroom walls. Sam leaned back into his laugh.
Cold water jolted out of the shower head, spraying me directly in the chest. A gasp escaped me, as it soaked straight through my clothes. Sam’s laugh became nuclear, he seemed unbothered by the water that was slowly making it way to his side of the bath. Too distracted by my current shivering state. I pulled sharply at the edge of his flannel to catch him off guard. He fell forward, giving me just enough room to slip underneath him to the other side of the tub. The laughter stopped abruptly, the cold water knocking the air out of his lungs. It was my turn to let out a loud cackle.
We were so caught up in the water war that we didn’t notice the lack of yelling followed by the loud sound of the front door slamming. Dean threw open the bathroom door. His mouth formed around words but stopped at the sight of me and Sam laying on the tub floor soaking wet, water still cascading down on top of us. His angry expression vanished.
“What the hell are you guys doing?” I could tell that it was taking everything in him not to laugh at our position. He was putting on what me and Sam call his dad face, his face set in a stone cold serious expression. It always had a way of making you feel like you’re three years old and you just got caught cutting your siblings hair with the kitchen scissors. His eyes betrayed him though. There was a glimmer of light in them that said he wanted to laugh.
“We are doing what you told us.” I squeaked, moving into an upright sitting position, smiling sheepishly at Dean.
“I told you guys to hide in the bathroom, not create a tsunami in the tub.” Sammy let out a bark of a laugh that was silenced by Dean's crossed arms. My lips curled involuntarily inward to stop my own laughter from spilling into the room.
Sam now stood, making me so tiny on the bathtub floor, alone surrounded by two giants. I stood to suppress that feeling. It didn’t work. I was always a foot or so shorter than the boys even while standing. The water now hit the top of my head, spraying around me.
“What did you expect Dean? We were in here for thirty minutes while that girl screamed about the ‘night of love making’ you two shared and how you had one with her friend two days later. We got bored.” Sam reached up and moved the shower head so it was now pointed at the very front of the tub.
“Yeah,” Dean reached around and scratched the back of his neck. “Sorry you had to hear that kid.” I gave him a real smile followed by a shrug of my shoulders. I knew Dean was a player, I could have gone without the details, but I am not scarred for life or anything.
“Hey, what about me? I deserve an apology.”
“You deserve nothing.” Dean pointed an accusatory finger at Sam. “I told you that was her friend the other night at the bar, ‘No Dean, her friend was shorter with lighter hair’.” He mocked Sam's voice as he turned around in a small circle to face the opposite wall. Sam bumped his shoulder into mine lightly. Looking up I saw a mischievous grin displayed on his face, he was holding the shower head in his hand. He gave a short nod towards Dean, before mouthing a wordless countdown.
“You no good dirty bastard!” I yelled when he got to one. Dean whirled around fast, confusion riddled his whole body. Sam was quick to lift the shower head up, spraying Dean straight in the face. His face the moment the water hit was priceless, he was truly in disbelief.
“You two are asking for it.” Dean growled, lunging towards us.
I quickly tried to jump out of the tub, unfortunately so did Sam. We crashed into each other landing on the tile floor, a heap of legs and elbows. Sam manages to catch my head in his palm before it smacks the ground. The room echoes with laughter, each of us wet, cold, and unbelievably happy.
“Alright we need dry clothes or we will all catch pneumonia.” Sam says breaking the laughter.
“Like that would kill a Winchester. Right kid?” Dean splashes water in my direction, I laughed nodding my head. My heart was growing as Sam threw a towel around my shoulders.
I could stand being Y/N Y/L/N in my world as long as I got to be Y/N Winchester here.
