Big Hit had been teasing something for the past few weeks. Cute images were posted across their social media and everyone started to expect that there was another Grace album coming, even though BTS were amid a comeback. Twitter was aflame with all the ideas and ARMY were trying to see if anything could be hidden in the images by zooming in.

Then on a Friday night, a link was uploaded.

It was a YouTube video which was going to premiere on Sunday afternoon in South Korea. The title of the video: ‘Grace Chu - Here In My Arms Mini-Album (Official Live Performance).’ This puzzled ARMY and the rest of the world even more as it had been a while since the mini album had been released, on the seven-year anniversary of Seokjin and Grace’s relationship.

For Grace, the whole performance was giving her a mixed bag of emotions.

Unbeknownst to everyone, it was the first of many ‘last’ performances from Grace until she went on maternity leave. Eighteen weeks pregnant and the bump was now full on display, though cleverly hidden by style choices in the early days, but it was getting harder to conceal. It was getting harder to sing and dance, unable to pull off the choreography like she used to.

A meeting had been called to put a plan in motion for BTS to continue their comeback, with Grace still present, but not doing the performances. Her voice would be there, she would still do the interviews and the press conferences and a doctor would be on hand at all times. When 25 weeks came around, she would be put on rest. But for now, while she could still perform, she was going to give ARMY a treat.

A ‘see you later’ treat and a way to announce her pregnancy.

HYBE’s top floor had been cleared and re-done, back to the very basics but hints of pastel colours - ivory, pink, purple, green, yellow, blues, etc. The band that had played with Yoongi during his D-Day tour was drafted in and they, along with Grace, had come up with a small set-list that would do what it needed to do - say goodbye but oh, pregnant!

She was nervous as the hours to the premiere ticked down. The K-Pop world could be unpredictable when it came to idols and their private relationships. Their reaction to her and Seokjin had been more than favourable, but this was something different altogether. They weren’t married and the pregnancy had been kind of wanted but also a major surprise.

It had been a major surprise to all the boys when they were given their uncle hoodies.

Grace had banned them from being at HYBE on the day of the performance. It wasn’t that she didn’t want them there but they were a distraction, having already seen the set the day before and were causing chaos with the flowers that had been brought in. Well, Jimin, Taehyung, Jungkook and Hobi had been causing chaos. Namjoon, Yoongi and Seokjin had been causing chaos by going over the lyrics.

There were a few swear words and obviously, the lyrics were sexually suggestive but that’s why this would be a one-off and never done again.

The minutes were ticking by and Grace let out a deep breath, putting a hand on her stomach where there was a slight fluttering. She was standing in the middle of the set, the band behind her with a small orchestra, all dressed in various colours while she was dressed in a pink sparkly dress.

It had been designed to be loose, to hide the bump until she was ready to reveal it. Any camera on her wouldn’t be able to tell that she was 18 weeks pregnant, ready to tell the world what she was expecting.

As the premiere ended and the official performance began, ARMY was shocked to see Bang-PD pop up in a recording that had been filmed the day before.

“I’m pleased to introduce to you all, Grace Chu, our female member of Bangtan Sonyeondan. We hope you all enjoy the performance of this amazing album even if we’re a bit behind and I hope to see you all in the comments.”

It was puzzling and anyone translating had commented that it was such an odd thing to say. Some were beginning to worry that it was going to spell the end of BTS as they knew it.

Finally, the cameras switched for ARMY to see Grace standing here, microphone in hand as the band and orchestra started the intro notes to Positions. The comments started going crazy with everyone watching, each trying to get Grace��s attention, not realising she couldn’t exactly see them.

The boys, however, in Namjoon’s apartment had the performance on his wide-screen TV and could see the comments coming in real-time. Jimin was running a commentary as he held his phone in his hand, his screen showing the comments only as the rest watched along.

They were just as nervous, Seokjin more so. This was going to be a big day with the world knowing their most private news and it was either going to be bad or it was going to be very good. In this idol/K-Pop world, it was hard to know.

So far the comments had been exploding over her voice, how she was glowing and there had been one or two comments who had already suspected what was happening.

“Ah ARMY aren’t stupid,” Jimin laughed as he pointed out the comment he had quickly screenshotted before it disappeared. “They said this is giving baby vibes and then the other comment said she’s going to announce she’s pregnant, putting money on it.”

“Is there a reason she picked a pink dress?” Yoongi asked, already making note of the particular colour.

Seokjin shrugged, accepting the bowl of food from Hobi who had been sorting out their takeaway food. “I have no idea, we haven’t had a gender scan yet. I think the stylists said it was the only material they had which would hide her bump.”

Yoongi didn’t quite believe it, nor did Seokjin who knew the exact reasoning behind it all.

It was then the most important song came, the boys and everyone holding their breath because it was going to happen within seconds. Staff were ready to start banning, and even lawyers were on standby to start suing.

34+35 started playing, all eyes on the screen as Grace took a breath and stood from the chair she had been sitting in from the previous performance of Safety Net.

“You might think I'm crazy, the way I've been cravin.' If I put it quite plainly,” she turned sideways to the camera and smoothed the dress to the now obvious eighteen week bump, “just gimme them babies.”

The internet went into utter melt down. Grace carried on with the song, completely unaware of what was happening across various social media pages. All she saw was a thumbs up from Sejin.

Pink confetti started raining down as she got towards the end of the song, finally revealing to the world and to the boys what gender it was.

“You liar!” Yoongi yelled, pointing a finger at a grinning Seokjin.

“Ah I technically wasn’t lying, the stylist did pick that material for a reason,” the father of a soon-to-be baby girl pointed out, ignoring the rest as they clamoured around him for hugs. Jungkook was crying into Namjoon’s chest, blubbering how he was going to be the best big brother ever.

At the end of the performance, at the end of the video, Grace gave the camera finger hearts and patted her stomach with a smile on her face. The screen faded to black with pink wording: Bangtan Baby. Coming April. See you soon.

I was thinking of doing concepts like this , of where the company , you work in would send you , for your first gig .

Pile 1

The show is going to be centered around you and your family and best friends. It's either a show where you and your friends are like impractical jokers or where your friends are controlling what you say and do while you pull pranks on each other. Or the show will be more family-oriented but still full of drama, showing your love life and all aspects of the home. Most reality TV shows are centered around love, hookups later in the season, and your marriage life. Seasons highlights are you meeting your lover, the audience will eat up all the relationships plot, and you have one where you leave your partner because of his bad spending habits. Have era where your just clubbing and partying it up with musicians,although more of a badboy/bad girl type. To make things spicy, some of you will choose to come back to your spouse or lover and have kids. You are just showing off your luxurious lifestyle and connecting with different people.

Your show would run for 7 months, but because of all the other opportunities you will be presented,

How will people feel about you? They see you as a reliable and practical person. They see you as someone who has huge influence and is good at making and keeping money. You know how to make things trend and just know what people want to see.

Now they see the people you have on show all differently, which isn't surprising because it's more general reading. Some people think it's something else for your family—some type of Illuminati stuff happening. They think your family has some secrets that need to be exposed.

A wholesome reality TV show—these shows I'm not familiar with at all. It has a church or does good deeds for strangers. It reminds me of toddlers going to chores on that one Japanese show, so I guess a show involving kids, like Superman (a Korean show). Healing program, Lee Hyori show where she let her home be a guest house, BTS in the soop.

You choose a game show, either the ones that are like the Genius show or A mystery show like Zombieverse, Busted, and On Show required you to use your strength as well. There are lots of YouTube shows like this. So your normally with different types of entertainers, singers, actors, comedians, and sometimes they invite police or army people on these shows. You have a good chance of winning on the show with the nine of pentacles.

Another show is Running Man.

You would have time at first finding love ,but you walk out with loving yourself more out of this crazy experiment. Also finding a sweet partner to out of the show. People, like how , articulate you are and just how you present you. The show either last for seven days or seven weeks.

It’s always these two with the constant teasing/flirting, and I join them together cause most of the time you just can’t separate the two.

This whole JM wanting JK to say something and JK deciding to say something else really reminds me of JM’s Japan mission trying to get JK to say ARMY (start at 4:38 min.):

Let’s start by saying that JM came to make sure his eye to eye lip puckering telepathy mission worked.

I just love this. The whole thing is super hilarious. JM approaching, looking in, zooming in, JM and JK’s expressions, I was rofl even before they started talking, well the editing was part of it too, I will admit. That music and the captions, lol.

Now, we don’t know if JM went to talk to the others, we do know that he came seeking JK because the editors chose to show it to us.

JM’s all serious and stuff and JK’s all ready in “I’m going to tease the heck out of him right now” mode.

And all JK does is say “ah’ to JM’s “you know where to go” for JM to know JK isn’t being serious. He knows his facial expressions, his tone to a T. We can see the smirk on JK’s face, but JM isn’t front and centre like the camera angle is, and yet he knows exactly what JK’s up to.

JK does not let go of that ice cream for his. I think rather than tagging this post as Jikook It will be tagged as Jungfood, or foodkook, depending on who has the upper hand here (perhaps foodkook?).

BTS’ Suga on going solo, his love of hip-hop and the band’s future:

‘We’re real brothers, period’

“If I do well, that’s good,” says Suga. “If my family members do well, that’s even better.”

However you look at the current purgatory for K-pop superstars BTS — a long-expected pause for military service, a renewed focus on solo careers or an existential crisis for the genre — there are significant stakes not just for the group, but for the global music industry. While the seven members of the most successful act in South Korean history take turns, based on their respective birthdates, performing mandatory 18-month turns in the military — Jin and J-Hope are currently serving — those not yet conscripted have the chance to reestablish themselves as solo acts, after six chart-topping Billboard albums and six No. 1 Hot 100 singles. For the band’s label, Hybe, in the midst of a global acquisition spree, billions of dollars are potentially on the line. Bang Si-hyuk, Hybe chairman, recently stated that there is no set date for BTS’ comeback as a group, though he hopes they can return in 2025. Before beginning his military term later this year, group member Suga is touring U.S. arenas on the back of his solo debut album, “D-Day,” performed under the alias Agust D (he has two other mixtapes as Agust D). The dark, smoldering rap album debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200.

This week, Suga will perform three sold-out shows at Inglewood’s Kia Forum, on May 10, 11 and 14. However, he swears, he’s not competitive about it with his bandmates. “Are you competitive with your family members? Do you get jealous if your brother or your sister does well?” he asked with a laugh during a Zoom interview (Suga spoke through a Korean translator). “We’re real brothers, period. If I do well, that’s good. If my family members do well, that’s even better.”

Suga’s Agust D alias has long turned heads within the BTS solo-project sphere. Sometimes, those heads nearly get decapitated via giant ritual temple sword, as in his 2020 video for the rowdy “Daechwita.” Other times, they get stabbed right through with a pair of chopsticks, as Suga does himself in the deliciously grisly, “Oldboy”-worthy video for the new single “Haegeum.” It’s tough to square this genuinely transgressive solo artist with the snazzy-suited, fleet-footed heartthrob harmonizing on a Hot 100 hit like “Butter.” Devoted BTS Army fans know that Suga has an underground streak from his pre-BTS days, cribbing production notes from pioneering Korean rap acts like Epik High.

“Some bright and cheerful songs go into BTS,” he said. “But I’ve been doing music without any filter all the time, so I wouldn’t differentiate between Agust D or Suga, because all those are all me.” Still, “D-Day” is a standout, and not just for the sub-shaking production and gory videos. “Haegeum” is lacerating about modern life in South Korea: “Maybe we do it to ourselves/ Slaves to capitalism, slaves to money / Slaves to hatred and prejudice/ Slaves to YouTube, slaves to flexin’.” – Then he turns his blade on the internet culture that fascinates and destroys young people “Endless influx of information prohibits freedom of imagination / And seeks conformity of thought / All these painful noises blind you.”

“We’re living a life that’s better than ever before,” Suga said. “Some say we all live better lives than the king hundreds of years ago. But everything we worry about is coming too fast. Everyone’s lonely without having a sense of belonging, we can’t relate to the things that our parents have experienced, like being obsessed with accomplishments. Nobody feels a sense of belonging.”

Suga’s not immune from self-criticism, either. On “People Pt. 2,” with K-pop R&B singer IU, he sorts out his wariness around intimacy. “Selflessness can actually be selfish too, it’s true / It’s actually my greed when I say that it’s all for you.” – “This thing called love … it’s conditional,” he sings. “Wasn’t loved enough as a kid, that’s why I’m the cautious type.” Suga, born Min Yoon-gi, famously broke down in tears after seeing his formerly reluctant parents attend a BTS show in 2016. What did they make of that song?

“I don’t actually let my parents listen to my music before it’s released because there’s so many swear words,” Suga answered with a laugh. “My parents only listen to BTS songs. Things are good with us.”

On one hand, being in a globally famous act means any slip-up could be perilous. On the other, BTS-size stardom and a reputation for real artistry allow for uncommon candor, said Sang Cho, co-founder of the L.A.-based K-pop distribution and event firm KAI Media. “Suga and RM are to BTS what Lennon and McCartney were to the Beatles. Every member is talented, but these two are definitely the driving force behind their music,” Cho said. “I think Suga is a bit more Lennon — more explicit in his anti-establishment sensibilities. ‘Haegeum’ is a double entendre of a traditional Korean string instrument and wordplay on ‘liberation from restrictions.’”

“D-Day” also reflects on the music that helped Suga become a serious artist. His track “Snooze” was one of the late Japanese composer Ryuichi Sakamoto’s last collaborations, an artful yet stern track that brought Suga back to his teenage days learning to sample. “I’m not really good at piano, but I remember playing ‘Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence’ all day when I was young,” Suga said. “It’s impossible not to be influenced by him if you’re born in Korea. When I was young, I needed instrumentals without voice to sample, so I reversed and chopped his music. I am very grateful I can call him a mentor even though I only met him once.”

While Suga is playfully cynical about accolades like Grammy Awards — “Isn’t that a local thing?” he joked, echoing South Korean director Bong Joon-ho’s quip about the Oscars — he has nuanced thoughts about his place in hip-hop. “I did have that differentiation when I was younger. I hoped that [rap fans] would approve of my music,” he said. “But I have this very firm belief that if I go to a hip-hop concert, where there’ll be only hip-hop fans, well, BTS fans are hip-hop fans too. I’m a huge fan of hip-hop, but what’s important here is that it’s not empty words to do music for the people that have sent you love and support.” – As the members of BTS sort out these years in transition, they’re still in one another’s lives. BTS’ Jimin debuted atop the Hot 100 with “Like Crazy” in March. Suga can’t wait to be in the crowd cheering for his bandmates when their times come.

“If you live for 13 years in one house under the same roof 24/7, you become a family,” Suga said. “A lot of people think that the relationships between K-pop band members are kind of fake, but that’s not true. For me, it’s more like, ‘Oh, Jimin, hi! You made it to the Hot 100, I’m so proud of you!’”

I wish we could create an ARMY Council.

An elite group of experts on buying, streaming, voting, translating, and promoting, who could zoom regularly to discuss big ideas and—with the help of big accounts, artists, and content creators—lead ARMY in coordinated efforts for each solo effort, comeback, and milestone… with one goal: to position BTS to take the world by storm in 2026 without having to pay to play.

I am just a small blog, and only a toddler ARMY. I do not have a strong voice or any special knowledge or authority. But I believe ARMY is full of smart people with big hearts. I’ve seen ARMY do the impossible. So I put this idea out into the universe and hope it catches fire.

As it stands today, in solo era, we are spread too thin, with barriers in language and gaps in knowledge. Everyone is working hard—but not necessarily working in concert. It’s exhausting.

If we leave our fandom as it is now, the corrupt industry and government will diminish it from the outside, while the antis, mantis, solos and cults ruin it from within.

We need to come up with coordinated plans of attack. We need innovators and networkers and amplifiers. We need teachers. We need cheerleaders. We need mentors and recruiters for baby ARMY. We need data crunchers. We need advocates.

We need to unite.

If only we could build a virtual round table…

Moments TK Have Been Visibly Into EO

This post is truly exactly what it says on the tin lol. I'm sitting here trying to find something clever to say about it, but the truth is I just thought it would be fun to compile a relatively brief list of moments that come to mind when I think about how visibly into each other Taehyung and Jungkook are.

It's a pretty short list in comparison to all the moments that I could include, but that just means more moments for additional parts in the future if people like this one!

I'll make little comments about what I take away from these moments, but for the most part, I really feel like they speak for themselves.

I won't lie, mentally and emotionally I'm still here, watching the Vminhopekook live from Las Vegas and calculating how long it will be before Taehyung literally eats Jungkook alive on camera. I won't lie, I have no clue how anyone doesn't see this as suspicious.

I get what other people are seeing in this live, but I don't know how they're not seeing this lol. From the moment Jungkook arrived in the room, Taehyung looked like he was going to take a bite out of him any second.

Similarly, in the LA live from the end of last year, Jungkook could not keep his eyes off Taehyung or his thighs. I mean, we all know this one, I'm sure, because honestly it's just iconic.

The way Jungkook's eyes kept drifting back to Taehyung, the way he stared no matter what else was going on, how he went to slap Tae's thigh at one point and only stopped because Taehyung reached for his hand at the same time. He was pretty obvious in this one ngl, and even if he wasn't, Jimin certainly gave them away.

I'm still not over the rehearsal from Busan where Jungkook kept pulling down Taehyung's sweater. Even if you can write off Jungkook unbuttoning it or tugging the sleeve down Tae's shoulder as just standard teasing, I don't really see how Taehyung moving to stand directly in front of Jungkook to rearrange the whole sweater can just be brushed off lol, especially considering how much they were laughing about it together.

I love this tiny interaction so much. This clip zooms in but if you happen to come across the full-body version at some point, you can see really clearly how Jungkook is heading straight forward, but then when Taehyung flirts with him a little bit, the direction of his feet completely changes as he starts to walk straight for Tae instead, like he doesn't even realize he's doing it. And Joon's reaction lol. Yeah, this is another one I can't figure out how to think around.

Honestly I was looking for a clip of a specific moment of Taehyung gazing at Jungkook with those bedroom eyes (from the 2019 to 2020 New Year's live) but I couldn't find a good version of just that, and tbh he does it a lot, so here's a little compilation for you.

Taehyung's eyes really rolled back, I mean --

This moment from the SYS The Final DVD where Jungkook was watching Taehyung practice is, I think, a really good example both of a moment where Jungkook was really into Tae, but also just the way he's so sweet for Tae all the time. He's, like, enraptured here, literally slack-jawed and staring.

I love the moment from Hobi's listening party where Jungkook was dancing and Taehyung sort of checked him out and danced up to him. I really feel like at this point, Taehyung doesn't even try to hide how hot he thinks Jungkook is, and good for them.

That's where I'm going to leave this for now, but if you have any favorite moments where you feel it's pretty plain to the eye how into each other Taekook are, please feel free to add them in the replies or send in an ask! These two are always eyeing each other and grabbing each other, so there are a lot of moments to choose from.

Their appreciation of each other is so sweet to see, in my opinion, but it's also just fun to see them being a bit obvious sometimes.

An AntiFan Named GrumpGirl

To BTSARMY:

Whoever this Grumpy Girl is, wants total attention, and we are giving it to her. Grumpy Girl reminds me of Donald J Trump who makes things up as she lives in her own world of lies. I don’t doubt that she is one of thousands of conservative Christians who reside in the United States. This person has many followers, and her hate is pitting fans against each other, and we need to be careful. Taekook is real she says… is like saying the Corona Virus is fake! Stay strong she says to others as Donald Trump has said to his followers as they swarmed to the United States Capital with insurrection in mind. They were there to cause harm and she is here to cause harm to BTSArmy fans. A lot of people like Grumpy Girl think we hate Taehyung in which we don’t. I see that “We Love you Taehyung” is trending but it is there for different reasons. Her words tell me she is a homophobic pretending to be a Taekooker and she is using who she thinks is the weakest link in BTS and that is Jimin to disrupt the fandom. If she can’t utilize Jimin, she goes after Bang Si Hyuk. Making a sick and mental inuendo of sexuality between Jimin and Bang Si Hyuk. That is criminal and it is called Sexual Harassment. Grumpy Girl is not as dumb but dumber and her criteria is to cause harm. Her manipulations is working on those who believe in the friendship of Taehyung and Jungkook. Who is this hurting, none other but the Macknae line of BTS. Her target is not the fans of BTS but BTS themselves. She is using the fans to separate and divide the BTS 7 members or causing such an effect to decrease their popularity. It’s called propaganda! What is “Propaganda” you ask? Propaganda is the dissemination of information—facts, arguments, rumors, half-truths, or lies—to influence public opinion. Deliberateness and a relatively heavy emphasis on manipulation distinguish propaganda from casual conversation or the free and easy exchange of ideas. If you go against her propaganda, well guess what, we start getting her rantings of cursing, deep voice negative connotations, and arguments to invoke the crowd. Same thing Donald J Trump uses to cause a negative action among MAGA. We as BTS Army worldwide need to get Grumpy Girl off her pedestal by mass reporting her, copying and pasting her negative innuendos onto an email. If anyone can put a draft email, it should have links to her social media platforms. BigHit Music has let us know they are getting the emails, but they get thousands of emails which can cause back log of complaints. Also, if we start blocking her, it eliminates her viewing numbers. She is desperate and that is why she is now using a program like Zoom to interact her propaganda to those who will listen. There are a lot of mentally disturbed people out there and that is why I advise not to engage with her negativity. If you do not know the email address it is [email protected].

About Me 13 | BTS, Taking a Break, and Erikson’s Stages of Psychosocial Development

Special thank yous to the following!

@yuugehn! I so appreciated our discussion about so much of this! I originally was going to tag every line from our conversations lol, but for anyone reading this, please know that so much of this post, especially regarding observations about the Festa dinner, come from yuugehn’s gorgeous brain and heart!

@The Hornies! Over the 2 years we’ve gotten to know each other, we’ve talked about the themes discussed here. Thanks for being down to discuss these sorts of things with me and being so generous with your friendship.

I’ve been thinking about writing this post for a while. It’s going to be a loooooong post. It has been in my drafts for months because I wanted to talk about BTS’s career trajectory and how it plays off of their identities as individuals, as well as a group, in Erik Erikson’s life stages. It’s also about observations I made about my own fan experience, especially related to their concerts in Las Vegas. I wasn’t sure when my thoughts would come together.

To borrow Jungkook’s words from the Festa dinner, “Today’s the day.”

It all clicked this week due in part to the people mentioned up top, as well as other dear friends, old and new. And this has actually become a very, very personal post.

Whenever I’m having big emotions, my overeducated ass likes to lean on psychology frameworks. I try not to over-intellectualize in a way that diminishes my feelings, but I do find that applying such frameworks helps me gain perspective about those feelings. It even helps me validate my feelings. When I can see how my feelings fit into some kind of core psychological principle, I start to sense that I’m not alone. I find comfort in the fact that people have felt what I’m feeling under similar circumstances, and enough of those people have felt those feelings that someone made a damn framework.

So if you’re still sorting through your feelings about the break, and you love psychology as much as I do, let’s peep into Erikson’s brain microscope for a little while to gain some of that perspective. And then, if you’re interested, I’ll share some personal thoughts about it all, ones that are challenging and a bit scary to share, but ultimately have led me to feel a new, refreshing, optimism about life!

OK, let’s start with the psych stuff!! 🤩

Erik Erikson was a developmental psychologist who drew upon Freud’s psychodynamic work to identify key stages to human life. He’s actually the first person to come up with the term identity crisis, and he labels each stage based on a certain crisis, or conflict, that people grapple with during that age. It’s this investigation that makes Erikson’s classic model of eight stages so relevant to what BTS and ARMY might be experiencing right now.

I won’t go through all of the stages in depth, but here are some key things to know:

Though ages are roughly associated with each stage, you don’t necessarily have to go through these stages linearly or according to that timing

Stages can overlap

It is possible to “fail” a stage

If you “fail” a stage, you can still move on/through the other stages, which means you can also revisit stages as you grow

Here’s a quick infographic that summarizes the eight classic stages. We’ll be zooming into Adolescence, Young Adulthood, and Middle Adulthood, and how they’re all currently overlapping for the members of BTS!

Adolescence: Identity vs. Role Confusion (ages 12 to 18)

During this stage, our life events help us determine our identities. We do this by comparing and contrasting old experiences that we had when we were younger (i.e., what our loved ones taught us, showed us, instilled in us) with new experiences that we start to learn about at these ages (e.g., as we make deeper friendships outside of the home, and as we see more of the world). If we are successful, we come away with a strong sense of self; we know who we are, what we like, what we believe, etc. If we are unsuccessful, we come away from this stage perhaps thinking that we know these things, only to find out later that we go through an identity crisis, during which we are left questioning who we are.

Interesting things to note about this particular stage are that 1) Erikson believed that this stage can take a much longer time, especially in technologically advanced societies, because it takes us longer to adapt skills to navigate such a world, and 2) Erikson believed this stage is prolonged for people who are labeled geniuses in society.

If we take that to be true, it’s easy to see how the members went so long without a break, and thus now need that break to check back in with themselves. The ages seem to line up here. They started in their mid to late teens / early 20s; so much of their adolescence was defined for them, and it’s coming to a head now. They’ve been operating in one mode for so long, and they’ve led rigid lifestyles that have predefined so much of their identities — I mean, from the start, they were labeled as vocal line, rap line, dance line, etc., and it makes sense that they’re now questioning these things in order to expand and grow.

When people grapple with the central conflict of this life stage, there is a need for exploration, which is what the members hope to do now. They all need a way to test their identities to see what holds, and what doesn’t. What sticks. What they can add. What they can redefine. The members of BTS need this time for experimentation so as not to fall into identity crisis territory.

One comforting thing to see, though, is how the members are also leaning on the group identities that have crystallized to help them through that experimentation! Hobi plays an integral role here! Hobi’s role as the internal-facing leader helped him (and, thus, all of them) broach the topic of needing a break. Hobi was the first to question the group dynamic, with that story of him threatening to leave the group in the early days. He is also critical of the members when it comes to needing to slow down.

Compare that with the way Namjoon expressed the weight that he carried on his shoulders as the external-facing leader. His role has been focused on keeping them together as a unit; Namjoon is the peacemaker, the diplomat.

Hobi, though, shepherds the groups’ individuality. He is critical of them as individuals in order to help them each succeed on their own terms. And it makes sense that he’s the first to showcase his solo work, thus leading the way. The others have looked to Hobi in this way, too, like how Jimin has shown Hobi all of his solo work before the others. Namjoon said that he kept putting off the much-needed break; it’s almost as if Namjoon needed Hobi to tell him it was time, and as a result, they all are looking to Hobi to help them start their new chapters. A necessary changing of the guard of leadership in a way, perhaps, to help the group evolve.

Early Adulthood: Intimacy vs. Isolation (ages 20-44)

During this stage, our life events help us determine our connections to others. It may seem like BTS have the intimacy thing down-pat, given their close bond. But, importantly, being too enmeshed with others can also lead to disconnection. Being in the group too long could lead to isolation from others in their lives, depriving them of any growth they may have made in forming their own identities. This is not a completely foreign concept to BTS, as people, as well as artists.

Think about Trivia: Seesaw. Yoongi’s message in that song is about the inability to leave a toxic relationship that has struck only the illusion of balance, and the protagonist in the song ultimately decides to get off and move on with their lives. Though the dynamics within BTS aren’t fraught with toxicity, the same challenge is still there; the members felt like they weren’t being genuine, and it’s time to do something about it.

A key marker of success in this stage is whether people can make certain sacrifices in order to preserve that intimacy. Arguably, the members of BTS need to make a certain kind of sacrifice of time and space in order to preserve the family that they’ve built together. Take that with the lesson from Trivia: Seesaw, and it’s easy to see why they’re so eager to try new things and spend time with other people.

But you’re also seeing them do that in a way that is familiar to them. They’re making their own music, but they’re sharing that music with each other before they release it into the world. Apparently, Taehyung is even doing an In the Soop spin-off. It’s a way to put that intimacy to the test in order to come out of this stage successfully. It’s clear that they trust that their unconditional love for each other will remain intact, and that’s a really comforting thing to see, as well as a healthy way to model growth.

Middle Adulthood: Generativity vs. Stagnation (45-64)

It makes sense that as we start to move into the “old man” stage that Min “I Speak 3 Languages, Play A Million Instruments, and Do Pilates Now” Y🍑🍑ngi’s schedule comes into play! It’s amazing! And, interestingly enough, it’s a nice example of how one may address the core conflict in this stage!

During this stage, our life events help us identify our impact on others and the world. When we are successful, we feel proud and accomplished. When we are unsuccessful, we feel dissatisfied and stale. Much of what comes up in this stage is discussed in a familial setting, and it just so happens to work well here, as BTS even shared that they feel more like family.

Now, we’ve established that stages can overlap, that they’re not necessarily linear, and that geniuses often spend much longer in the Identity vs. Role Confusion stage. Given the universal scope of their influence and achievement, and understanding their words in that context, I don’t think it would be outlandish to assume that there is a bit of an acceleration to the Generativity vs. Stagnation stage. And they each give examples of how they are experiencing this conflict through the central tasks associated with this stage.

One particular central task of this stage is to create a home. Because their house contract (lease?) is up, they’ve settled into their own places, separate from each other. Seems like they’ve got this one set, but it’s worth it to celebrate that they each get to incorporate their own voices in the way that they decorate and set up their new places, with as many mattresses aas Jungkook wants to have and saw in half lol.

When it comes to the other tasks, let’s break it down by member.

Namjoon. One task of this stage is relinquishing past roles. Here we go with Namjoon… Oooof, I feel for Namjoon. I wish I could tell him that I’ve been there, very recently. I’ve shared before that Namjoon is extremely focused on legacy. So it makes sense that he’s hitting on two central tasks: relinquishing a central role in the lives of grown children, and being proud of one’s accomplishments. If he is the external leader of BTS, then the rest of the group can be perceived as his “children”, or “followers”, to a certain extent.

It’s clear that relinquishing this role is particularly tough for him, given what he shared, and how emotional he was when he shared it. Similarly, Namjoon seems to be battling stagnation pretty hard when it comes to his identity as a leader and creator. He voiced feeling lost, as any leader without anyone to lead would feel, and this has crossed over into his difficulty writing new music. I think that’s why he’s so interested in art — he’s lost his own voice, and he’s looking to other artists in other media to help him express himself. I’m thinking about how he felt after seeing that Rothko piece. He’s wanting to feel again, and he mentioned needing new life experiences, new stimuli, to have something to say.

And he’s scared about what happens if he doesn’t get that. He’s scared about what will happen, and whether he will disappoint people, on top of already feeling he’s disappointed ARMY and his fellow members. He has a hard time feeling pride in his accomplishments because he was feeling so disingenuous when working toward them. It makes sense that he would want to revisit that now and get back to a place of generativity, to impact the world in a way that is positive and healthy. To do that, he recognizes that he needs new experiences, and that is a commendable thing to state while being in the position he’s in now.

Jin. Some crises in this stage include adjusting to the physical changes of older age, a sense of regret for unfulfilled goals, a desire to spend time alone, and a desire to feel young again. Jin’s physicality certainly seems to be relevant here; he was recently injured, and we’re all thinking about his age and perhaps his oncoming military duties, which will have an impact on what comes next. He talked during the dinner about how he doesn’t necessarily regret not acting, but that means that he had to think about it, process that he hadn’t become an actor like he thought he would or might like to be, though he certainly still has time to do so. That’s also a part of life — realizing that you do have more time than you think you do in many ways, something that I’m also learning. The desire to spend time alone and to feel young again seems to surface when Jin was talking about shutting himself away and playing games for days straight, bur Erikson also points out that people often come back from these behaviors feeling unfulfilled. So though I don’t know if Jin is necessarily experiencing a quarter/mid-life crisis (I mean, how much do we really know about what they’re experiencing), these kinds of behaviors are often seen in this stage.

Yoongi. This stage also brings about homemaking, reexamining our behaviors, using leisure time creatively, and passing on our lessons to those younger than us, whether through family or instruction. So it makes sense that Yoongi seems to be thriving in this space of generativity. He’s making his house into a home, picking up healthy life behaviors, feeling inspired to use his leisure time creatively, and passing on wisdom and information to the next generation (young songwriters). In fact, let’s compare and contrast the “young songwriters” thing; Yoongi found joy in being able to share advice with them (generativity), whereas Namjoon felt slighted that no one was coming to him (stagnation). It’s almost as if Namjoon’s role as a leader forced his own adolescence / identity development to be that much more stunted — or maybe also his own genius getting in the way! Meaningful work is also a huge part of the generativity vs. stagnation stage — people who find meaning in their work find it through contact with others, opportunities for growth and maturity in their craft, and a level of independence as they explore. Yoongi is getting exactly this, which maybe explains why he was so happy during the dinner, save for having empathy for the other members when they were expressing their fears. All of this helps to explain Yoongi’s glow-up. And it seems consequential that this is the “old man” stage lol.

Hobi. I talked about Hobi up at the top, so this section will be short. Hobi is leading the charge when it comes to helping growing and grown children to be responsible adults. Again, Hobi is the first to debut his solo work, and he’s performing at Hobipalooza — I mean, Lollapalooza, lol. But he also needed to help the others to see that they are ready to do it, too.

Jimin. Obviously, interpersonal relationships are key in this stage; those that are solid hopefully continue to grow, and those that aren’t start to fall away. During this stage, love matures past more shallow definitions, or purely sexual definitions. ARMY talks about Jimin being pure love, and that’s something that I thought about a lot when writing him in Bear with Me (i.e., a discussion about whether there is such a difference between platonic vs. romantic or other types of love). He’s done so much to stay true to himself and express that love in a way that is visible. He hugs, he smiles, he asks people to tell him that they love him, but he doesn’t just want it for surface reasons. He really means it, and he needs people to mean it when they say it back. I think this also makes him vulnerable to enmeshment, where he starts to lose himself in that love. And that’s why I think the solo chapter seems to be hard for him to stomach:

Taehyung. When it comes to Taehyung and Jungkook, I see a mix of all of this as they play out in identity, which is something I think Taehyung is experimenting with, and maturity, which is something Jungkook is developing.

I think I have less to say about Taehyung because he’s so open about his experimentation, and that’s really all there is to it. He’s experimenting with change, trying on new identities, new hobbies, new friends. Though he is an introvert, he seems to be the most outwardly social with other idols and celebrities, and his feeds are all about him trying on new clothes and looks, or having new experiences out in the world. Seeking out this type of change is typical at this stage of life as well, and with Taehyung’s openness to experimentation, it’s cool to see this particular habit surface at a time when he has unlimited resources and opportunities.

Jungkook. Interestingly, or maybe even unsurprisingly (he is the golden maknae, after all), Jungkook is the one who is developing a certain level of maturity. He seems to be stepping into a balance of all things, just like how the guys say that Jungkook is a mix of all of his hyungs — especially all the best parts of them. Namjoon pointed out that he rambled on and on about what he was feeling, and Jungkook was so concise and well-spoken, but Jungkook also benefitted from the hyungs sharing their thoughts first as he essentially summarized them. With their wisdom, he is taking on all of the tasks mentioned, and he’s figuring out his own take on them. And that’s why he seems like he’s so mature.

Like Namjoon and Hobi, he’s in one way relinquishing control and being forced to trust what the future will bring, while also developing his own abilities as a leader / caretaker — like adopting Bam! He’s creating his own space, his own home, his own sound, the way that he wants, and I think that his confidence is shored up by Yoongi’s, as he so determinedly said that he will release his music after Yoongi does. They’ve talked about his capacity to love being bigger than they initially realized, but compared to Jimin, he seems to have a layer of separation; Jungkook’s not afraid to emote, but he still seems more confident in making his own choices. And like Taehyung, he’s experimenting with his identity. But, in comparison to Jin, he’s also lucky to be going through these changes at a time where his physical state can weather them, so it’ll be interesting to see how that may change as he gets older and faces these questions about identity again. Along with Yoongi, he seems so ready to take on this next chapter.

Final Thoughts on the Break, and More on BTS and Psychology (aka Cheryl Actually Gets Personal for Once)

It’s so interesting to see how I think it’s super interesting that I planned my BTS Case Conceptualization project and only wrote Namjoon so far. He’s the external leader, and the one who is so focused on keeping them together. I think it’ll be interesting to write the rest of the members’ case conceptualizations now, knowing that their solo work is right around the corner. Might bring some new light to what I have in store for those pieces, kind of like another experimentation period.

Speaking of experimentation, and feelings…

Some of you may have noticed that I am experimenting with tons of little projects, as well as the structure and content of my fics. Also, so many of you have shared how you’ve been feeling with me, and you’ve asked me how I’ve felt about all of this news, too. Even with all this psychology talk, I’m the kind of person who feels things first, doesn’t really know what to do with those feelings, and only understands them muuuuuuch later.

When I got to see BTS in Las Vegas, I felt odd. I didn’t quite know what it was. I felt frozen, in a way. So I kind of had to let it thaw before I could express it. I think I’m starting to understand what I was feeling. Even before then, I had been telling Roomie / @mochilatae that the guys felt so far away. (Here, I have to say, dear Roomie, thank you for the amazing chat. You know. Even without me having to use the words, because they would fail.) And I still felt that in Las Vegas, when I was literally watching them in concert, and arguably within the closest physical proximity that I will ever be to them. It came to a head that night, I think. I was feeling what Namjoon talked about, this sense of exhaustion, or maybe even disingenuousness. The fabulous Shenee from GAF, as well as other ARMY, have been talking about this shift, and I could see what they were talking about, though I hadn’t associated it with my own feelings. Now, my freeze is making sense.

See, when it comes to other people’s feelings, I tend to be a sponge; I take on what others are experiencing, and I have a hard time separating what I’m truly feeling from what I feel others are feeling. It’s why I didn’t become a therapist. I love psychology, but my love lies in the theory of it. The meaning-seeking, but not necessarily the application. When it comes to the practical matter of helping others, I just couldn’t serve as a container for other people’s emotions. I was taking my work home with me, and I couldn’t do the job. I couldn’t keep my own boundaries well enough to provide that for others. I still can’t. That’s why I’m very, very selective with who I share my real feelings with. And I’m glad that I recognized that before I decided to really pursue my clinical license, because I would have burned out fast.

Because of that, and because of other personal experiences, I definitely have a hard time being vulnerable, especially when I have failed to maintain boundaries, and when people have continuously overstepped the boundaries that I have tried to keep in place.

If you’ve read my fics, you know I have no issues being completely vulnerable in my writing. I love getting to talk about all of these feelings and life themes with you! I love the asks, the posts, the discussions, so please keep them coming!

But I do recognize that when it comes to the fics, I’m using my characters to speak for me. In fact, if you search my “about me” content here, you’ll find that I really have no truly personal posts here. This is arguably the first real “about me” type of post. I like sharing my thoughts, but I still need to find a good balance when it comes to sharing my emotions or the meanings behind them. It’s why I love to write; I really love using characters to play out the scenarios I’ve experienced for me to understand what the truth is beneath them. It helps.

So, take everything that has been going on regarding the break, Namjoon’s fear of sharing that he was exhausted or not living up to people’s standards, the group’s fear of losing ARMY as they take this time to start their next chapter, all the things that the guys have shared, and add this dream that I had last night.

I don’t really do deep dream analysis from a psychodynamic perspective; I am firmly a CBT gal through and through, and after studying memory from a cognitive neuroscience perspective, I follow the perspectives in the field that view dreaming as an information encoding process. Most of the time, I consider my dreams to be like little movies, or episodes of a show. But, like with movies or episodes, I do think dreams can mean things, especially if we feel compelled to assign them meaning.

In my dream last night, I was sleeping, and I woke up in my house (but it wasn’t my actual house) and found all this furniture that I had ordered scattered about the room. Chairs, mattresses, tables, knickknacks. I wasn’t expecting any of it to be there. I got out of bed and found the guys in the living room, where there was even more new furniture laying about, and chatted with them, at some point asking, “Hey, so, when did all of this get delivered and assembled?”

And the guys, except Jungkook (he was around 19-20 yo in the dream), all voiced at the same time that Jungkook was the one who unpacked and assembled everything (lol very Run BTS interior decorating episode). When I looked at him in surprise and gratitude, he just kinda sweetly smiled and shrugged. And I woke up feeling so comforted and taken care of, absolutely amazed that Jungkook would go to the trouble of doing that for me.

Where did this dream come from? Well, cognitive neuroscience me pointed out that I just wrote Blackout because I needed some kind of comfort but wasn’t exactly sure why (and what timing lol). I watched Just One Day and For You before I slept last night. I have been thinking about getting new furniture and reorganizing my room. And I had been thinking about Festa and Jungkook’s 7 mattresses! 🤣

But I also know that I’ve been examining my own need for depth in my personal connections. I have lived my life in a way that has kept me from being truly vulnerable with others, for an amalgam of reasons. Part protection. Part fear. It has served me very well. But it also keeps me from experiencing a certain closeness with people. This is me in Erikson’s Intimacy vs. Isolation stage. While I still think I need to enforce certain boundaries, I think I’m hungry to let a select few in. It’s just a matter of finding the right people to let in, and, happily, I think I’m starting to find them, thanks in part to BTS and ARMY. I need to do more soul-searching, to continue figuring out my own feelings, figure out my voice, figure out what makes me happy. To not be a sponge, and to be my own container. To try new things without being so invested in them that I lose myself in the process.

I’ve so appreciated seeing the discussion around the break. (And if you’re interested in more BTS / psychology takes, here’s the series I’m working on right now!) But I hope this long-ass post, all of this together — Erikson’s life stages, BTS’s examples, and my own personal observations — helps express why I happen to think this break is a good thing. A natural thing. And a necessary thing.

BTS’s break just so happens to coincide with me needing a break from my old patterns as well. So, I’m excited to see what is in store for them next, but more importantly, I’m thrilled to see what this prompts for ARMY — how we continue to grow as people, and how BTS has impacted us / will continue to impact us along the way. 💜

All'interno del mondo dei BTS, troviamo JungKook, il membro più giovane dei sette, che di questi tempi è noto specialmente per le sue dirette streaming insieme alle/gli ARMY. Le/i sue/oi fan sono statə testimoni di varie attività, negli ultimi mesi: JungKook che cucina noodle, che lava i piatti, che si gode una sessione di noraebang (karaoke) a tarda notte o che semplicemente parla della sua giornata.

Quando JungKook si collega per un'intervista via Zoom con Consequence per parlare del suo nuovo singolo, “3D” featuring Jack Harlow, la sua energia non è poi così diversa. “Dunque, quando mi stavo preparando per il mio nuovo singolo,” ricorda, “ho ricevuto un sacco di tracce da visionare, ma non ce n'era nessuna che mi piacesse particolarmente, finché non mi sono imbattuto in questa. Non appena l'ho sentita, non ho potuto che sceglierla.”

“3D” suona un po' come se fosse stata strappata dalle onde radio di mezzo decennio fa, quando Justin Timberlake ha rilasciato FutureSex/LoveSounds e qualsiasi cosa Pharrell toccava, brillava più fulgida dell'oro. I ritornelli ripetuti e sussurrati da JungKook e le sue armonie su più livelli ne acuiscono il senso di nostalgia, ma la partecipazione del rapper Jack Harlow tiene il brano saldamente ancorato al presente.

Sebbene i rispettivi impegni abbiano impedito a JungKook e Harlow di trovarsi materialmente a registrare insieme la canzone, i due si sono incontrati sul set del video musicale e si sono subito trovati. “Adoro il suo entusiasmo. È stato davvero fantastico”, dice JungKook. “Per menzionare solo uno degli episodi più interessanti, nel video c'è una scena in cui giochiamo a scacchi, ed è lì che ho imparato a giocarvi per la prima volta nella mia vita. E, pensi un po'! Ho sfidato Jack e ho vinto!”

Alle/i fan che seguono questo gruppo già da parecchio, non suonerà affatto sorprendente che JungKook si sia lanciato in questo frangente competitivo – sebbene si trattasse di un'occasione piuttosto casual e amichevole – e che ne sia uscito vincitore. È famoso per provare cose nuove e riuscire quasi subito, ma – come anche i suoi compagni di gruppo – è una persona che lavora estremamente sodo. La nostra chiacchierata si tiene a metà delle sue prove per una delle esibizioni principali del Global Citizen Festival di New York, per la quale JungKook ha selezionato alcune delle sue tracce soliste, come “Euphoria” e “Still With You”, insieme ad un meddley dei successi inglesi dei BTS (“Dynamite”, “Butter” e “Permission to Dance”).

Anche i singoli solisti presentati da JungKook nel 2023 (“Seven” feat. Latto, e ora “3D”), finora, sono in lingua inglese, ed entrambi lo hanno visto spingersi verso lidi più espliciti, come mai prima d'ora. Ormai 26enne, JungKook è sotto i riflettori fin da quando aveva 15 anni, e sembra intenzionato a sondare il terreno e sperimentare con tematiche più mature, in questo suo capitolo solista. E non si lascia perturbare dalle eventuali sopracciglia alzate per questa sua direzione, preferendo invece fidarsi della diversità della sua fanbase. “Le/i nostrə ARMY appartengono a tante generazioni diverse”, commenta. “Credo questa canzone sarà come una piccola scossa, divertente e giocosa.”

Sebbene non veda l'ora che le/i fan ascoltino la canzone, ammette che il processo creativo, quando affrontato da solo, è piuttosto diverso rispetto a quando lavora insieme ai suoi fratelli dei BTS. “Nelle canzoni dei BTS, ci sono tutte le nostre diverse personalità e stili uniti insieme — mentre nel caso delle mie canzoni, ci sono solo io ed il mio stile personale. Non credo sarò mai in grado di creare qualcosa di così ricco di personalità come i brani dei BTS.”

Quando gli chiedo chi (al giorno della nostra intervista) ha già ascoltato “3D”, tra i suoi compagni di gruppo, arrossisce fino alla punta delle orecchie. “SUGA e RM”, dice. Gli chiedo cosa gli è parsa la canzone, e lui sprofonda sul tavolo, nascondendo il viso tra le braccia in uno spasmo di melodrammatica angoscia. “Mi hanno detto che sono una vera pop star”, borbotta.

Una coreografia dinamica:

Quando si ascolta “Seven” e ne si guarda il video, c'è questa certa frizzantezza. Nel caso di “3D”, invece, è più la sensualità, che abbiamo incorporato anche nella coreografia. Alcune parti sono molto intense, altre più rilassate; c'è molto contrasto e tanto dinamismo, nel video. In generale, la coreografia è molto coinvolgente e facile da seguire. L'atmosfera giocosa non fa che acuire quest'impressione. Credo sia piuttosto divertente.

Musica dei primi anni 2000:

Ecco, anni fa, quando ero un trainee, ascoltavo un sacco di canzoni per prepararmi alle nostre esibizioni. Quando ho iniziato a lavorare a questo brano, ho subito pensato potesse piacere a coloro che conoscono la musica dei primi anni 2000. C'è questo senso di nostalgia. Ma credo possa intrigare anche le generazioni più giovani, grazie al suo sound sofisticato, e mi piace la piega che abbiamo preso con questo progetto. Ho lavorato anche molto sulla pronuncia, sul senso e l'atmosfera creata dal testo e sul brano in generale così da riuscire a trasmettere proprio quel vibe.

Spingersi oltre i limiti:

Ciò che voglio fare è sondare le acque per vedere fin dove posso spingermi con la mia voce e le mie abilità. Cosa sono in grado di fare quando sono da solo.

Inoltre, voglio provare tanti generi differenti. Per me, è importante non focalizzarmi su uno stile in particolare. Semplicemente, voglio tenermi aperte diverse possibilità, quindi quando lavoro ad una data canzone, cerco di seguire l'ispirazione del momento, cosicché i contenuti delle mie canzoni possono raggiungere tante persone diverse ed avere tante interpretazioni differenti.

Tonalità chiare:

Nella mia mente, mi immagino tinte sull'azzurro ed il bianco. È per questo che, recentemente, ho cambiato il colore del mio microfono in bianco!

Quando sono insieme ai BTS, tutti i nostri colori e stili personali si uniscono nel prodotto finale — mentre, nel caso delle mie canzoni, ci sono solo io ed il mio stile personale. Non credo sarò mai in grado di creare qualcosa di così ricco di personalità come i brani dei BTS, ma è grazie al lavoro fatto finora con i BTS, che ho potuto gettare le basi per i miei progetti solisti.

Relationship with CL - Grace Chu

Chaelin was watching the make up artist work on her eyes a few hours before her performance at one of California’s most famous shows, Coachella. 2NE1 would be reuniting for one night only and it was amazing to have her sisters with her at what would be a performance of a lifetime.

She just wished one person could be with her.

A knock at the door interrupted her thoughts and she watched as her manager came in with a large bouquet of flowers, made up of peach garden roses, pale peach roses, and hydrangea with orange pud flowers and peonies. It was in a vase made out of purple which would have clashed with the colours if Chaelin didn’t see the note.

“To my darling, I hope it all goes well tonight. I’ll be thinking of you from Las Vegas. Dinner on me when we’re back in Seoul. Love you forever, Gigi.”

Grace Chu, one member of BTS, was currently in Las Vegas to perform Permission on Stage. A very close friend, basically sister at this point, who was more than gutted to miss CL’s amazing stage performance at Coachella.

Within two minutes of the bouquet arriving, she got a message from Grace with a picture of her and all the BTS members giving heart fingers to the camera. ‘Supporting you all the way in LV.’

Chaelin happily sighed and sent a photo back with her sniffing the bouquet of flowers with the simple message: 'Love you.’

Grace didn’t have a schedule on her best friend’s birthday and the original plan had been to join a group of casual friends to go out for dinner. However, Chaelin’s mother had passed away a few days before due to a heart attack. At the request of their friend, birthday plans had been put on hold.

But for Grace, she didn’t want her friend to be alone.

She tapped in the number to the front door of Chaelin’s apartment and heard the beep, pulling open the door to kick off her shoes at the entrance. The apartment was in dead silence apart from faint music coming from what Grace knew to be the bedroom.

She found her darling friend on her bed, wrapped in the covers as she stared at the TV that was playing the music video that had been released over an hour ago with the new song Chaelin had written in memory of her mother.

Grace said nothing as she climbed onto the bed and settled down next to her friend, wrapping her arms around the woman who had been nothing but a pillar of support in Grace’s own life and career.

The two stayed like that for a while until Chaelin’s tear streaked face appeared from the covers. “Thank you,” she quietly said and Grace smiled, holding her closer. “Anything for you.”

ARMY, IU and Chaelin’s fans were treated to a little surprise one night during Grace’s solo career. It was a shaky video but it gave the kpop world enough to talk about. Somewhere in Seoul, probably a fancy hotel from the looks of it and the sounds of dinner being finished.

The camera panned to Chaelin’s close up face then zoomed back out, giggling as she moved the camera around the table. There were four other women who were unfamiliar but it went to two figures who the world knew - IU and Grace.

“Say hi to everyone,” Chaelin said as she waved her hand in front of the camera, causing the two ladies to stop their conversation.

It was a rare insight into the relationship between three women who have taken the kpop world by storm, especially for IU and Grace who were rarely seen together.

The two waved at the camera and suddenly IU covered her face with her hand, giggling as Grace looked at the lady next to her then the lady behind the camera. “Really? Did you need to do that?” she asked, grinning before shaking her head. “Chaelin, we don’t need to see your breasts that close.”

“What do you mean?! These are amazing, you should be jealous,” the voice came from behind the camera.

Later on, another video would be uploaded, this time filming the three women walking down a hallway. Chaelin with her arms wrapped around the shoulders of Grace, IU to the side as she carried a pair of shoes and a small handbag.

Chaelin managed to plant a sloppy kiss on Grace’s cheek and plopped her head against Grace’s hair. “I can see why Seokjin goes to bed with you every night.”

“Chaelin!” came several voices, not from Grace who stopped and was bent over laughing.

“Come on, we’re all thinking of it.”

The videos were deleted the next day only after a selfie of the three ladies was uploaded to Grace’s Instagram with the caption: 'I don’t know what I would do without you two. Thank you for the fun nights and the memories.'

Because you all told JK will never do a vlive from his residence, it's not his home and jkk might be living in another home together lol when RM did a vlive from his private residence.

Second, who is dumb enough to expected jikook sharing same address under their name?

No one, everyone knows JK has a house in itaewon and Jimin in nine one. But you were expecting them to live together in a rented home or Jimin's apt but turned out to be wrong again.

Third, why do we ignore jimin been seen around Brunnen at April?

Seeing in 'Gagnam' NOT in brunnen. He maybe seen in gagnam, seoul, itaewon, busan .. literally anywhere in SK for multiple reasons, well because its place lol. JK was also spotted numerous times in Gagnam recently because it's his residence area.

Forth, why jimin posts for Jk bd was so much zoomed and didn't give out anything from the bg?

Because it was a fucking video and he posted a screenshot. Hobi was also with them and it was also a zoomed pic. Not the first time Jimin posted zoomed faces of members.

Fifth, if we are going to have any conclusion from Namjoon live, it's him being sure that no one would interrupt him

Yes and we get same conclusion from JK's live also. He's so sure no one would interrupt him in his private apt, nor Jimin or staff lol.

In JK's Live no one would interrupt him because it was a planned Live and all the "related people" were aware of it and wouldn't bother. So, JK and Jin and the rest of the people were content to do a Live there. Speaking of Namjoon, why Jimin, his beloved neighbor, didn't visit him during the Live when he lives only a block away? The Astronaut

A lot has been said on The Astronaut already. This is only my personal interpretation of what I see in this MV, the storytelling and some tiny references scattered here and there.

Since the song is co-written by Jin and Coldplay, two universes do mingle in one single song, so there is bound to be obvious links to both of them in the MV.

Music of the Spheres on one side and Jin/BTS/BU (yes BU) on the other, two distinct universes but with so much in common.

The contents that were released followed the astronaut's journey: The teaser made us follow the astronaut outside his spaceship on his travels in space.

The concept photos are a sequence of actions leading to the MV: 1.The Outlander, 2.Lunar Eclipse and 3. Land on Earth.

If you remember FESTA 2020, we had a Little Prince concept around a journey theme. Jin was then portrayed as the Little Prince, singing Moon and staring at his Earth, ARMY, in the ON:E concert.

We already had a Jin space traveler back then...

And if that was not enough, Wootteo our new astronaut friend, clearly told us where he was going.

Now let's start the MV.

Jin has crashed on Earth. He is the space traveler, the astronaut. Interesting that he lands in the middle of nowhere, a somewhat desert place... just like the Little Prince. But Jin's story is different.

He lands with his black helmet... It's the only thing next to him, the only thing that protected him in his journey or the crash? Maybe. It is important enough to be in the frame as a precious belonging coming out of the spaceship.

Fast forward to Jin's room.

Remember that BTS curated room for ARMY? It has most of the elements but this is the astronaut's room: Coldplay and My Universe posters, photos on a string, the guitar Chris gave Jin, retro game, tv and music equipment.

Feels and looks like a late 80s room...

Jin is doing a crossword with words only related to us: ARMY, Astronaut, Star, Moon (another song for ARMY) and Cozy.

Once more to the moon, the picture says... Yes that's our moon, Jin, going on a lunar eclipse for a while.

"The planet is coming back soon" may be a hint for Coldplayers related to Music of the Spheres, but it can also be for us ARMY. Coldplayers said that BTS is from blue planet Aurora. This was confirmed by the concept The Outlander for The Astronaut.

But why would the planet "come back"?

In the Little Prince book, the prince waits for one year until his star comes back above Earth, that's when he says he can go back home. Maybe that's what Jin is waiting for. For his planet to come back above Earth so that he can go back home.

The magazine says "coming back soon". How soon?

While Jin thinks about his crossword, his mind is drawn to the drawings on the wall. He tilts his head, demonstrating interest and recognition. He does that several times in the MV.

Side note: we now know that the child who drew those is Lumpens' child, Bangtan MV director for a very long time now...

Apart from that one moment of interest, Jin seems to be bored, waiting... drifting away as the lyrics say: "Like that asteroid drifting by without a destination, I, too, was just drifting away"

Note the retro game and old TV... and of course the very important black helmet.

Zoom in onto the TV where Chris Martin is the TV presenter. We have an old tv, old movies (Song of a Thin Man 1947, Another Thin Man 1939, John Paul Jones 1959) and that haircut on Chris... we are not in our 2022 regular universe except for the Coldplay tour poster on the side.

The mysterious beam of light that Chris is sharing in the breaking news segment seems to be what Jin was waiting for. His face lights up when he sees it through the window.

The astronaut's poster next to the window is one of Buzz Aldrin, one of the first men on the moon. Another reference to a journey to the moon, to another space traveler.

Jin puts on his suit and helmet and goes out. Oh yes, that's a déjà vu. How many times have you seen Jin dressing up and put on a baseball cap before going out? You have not? Go watch the LY Highlight Reel. None of them had a happy ending before...

If you didn't understand by now that Jin is not from Earth, then his behavior in the next scenes does point it out. He is very stiff in his walk and waving to the little girl. But he does one thing that shows he cares about her: he gives her his precious helmet before leaving.

And Jin starts running towards his goal. But his road is not so easy. There are obstacles, people on his way pushing him, but even with the stop signs he does not stop and goes on...

You and me Like a star that doesn’t shatter

And here comes another wink to BU. Yes, the florist shop he comes across... just when the lyrics go:

Becoming your dream To travel throughout the universe

The Smeraldo shop reference? BU space-time traveller Jin? Yes that was 100% done on purpose.

Jin also walks past an astronaut and stops to look at his reflection. He is the astronaut.

I also love the fact that they chose a Wanda Vision set for this particular scene. Multiverse possibilities again... and 2 completely different universes colliding with this collab.

And we follow Jin on his journey to his spaceship. There was a subtle reference to Coldplay's Paradise MV (2011) in these scenes. In that mv, Chris, dressed as an elephant, escapes a zoo and goes on a journey to to find his bandmates, his family, also dressed as elephants...

On his way, Jin thinks of the little girl, how he helped her ride her bicycle. There is a clear parallel between the girl learning how to manage on her own and Jin finally reaching his destination, his spaceship. Maybe that's a way to tell us that the struggle was there for both of them.

And it has probably been a long time wait for him... When the astronaut crashed, everything was bare around the shiny spaceship, now it has trees and shrubs growing nearby and the shiny luster on the spaceship has gone away.

How long has he been on Earth, waiting to go back?

The next scenes are all for us, ARMY. The lyrics and the purple color coding is clear. Jin looks straight into the camera to sing the chorus:

When I'm with you There is no-one else

And that purple galaxy of stars sparkling, that Jin sets alight at the tip of his finger (remember that), that's once again our ARMY galaxy. This is another familiar visual we got from Bangtan visuals through the years, like the one that starts the Highlight Reel or in DNA mv.

The second part of the chorus and we're back to the little girl, is that us ARMY? Maybe. Maybe that little girl is all of us. She teaches him what love and being human means. And everything she shared with him, photos and drawings, he kept them all in his room... remember?

There is one famous alien that learns about love from a child, makes its way back to his spaceship carried on a bicycle, flying over the moon and has a light at the tip of his finger...

Remember E.T.? Yeah 40 years in 2022. At the end, the alien leaves but tells the boy "I'll be right here".

Back to the mv. The space ship takes off, but Jin does not leave Earth. His face clearly shows he understands something as the song goes "And I Love You"

The space traveler has realized that he loves the little girl. So he decides to stay while his spaceship leaves.

The moment he turns around is when we first see that he has a tattoo on his neck, one that spells out AMI.

This act of turning his head sideways is a Jin signature move in BTS MVs to demonstrate that something important is happening right then. He even does it in the BST parody!

Jin tries to hitchhike his way back, but no vehicle stops for him except a pickup truck. It had to be a pickup right? BU happy times in MVs are always linked to a pickup, it's part of their signature visuals. But this time Jin is not the one driving, he is being driven home.

And home, is where ARMY is, or in this MV, where the little girl is. We can clearly see the AMI tattoo as he smiles in the sunset. And he shows us the drawing of what home means: Earth, Jin, the little girl on her bicycle.

Jin leaves the desert behind... we can see it going away as he rides back to the place he now calls home in the pickup. That walk through the desert is again a classic in Bangtan's visuals and lyrics... it is part of their journey.

We're back in Jin's room, in his home. His gaze towards the hanging solar system model tells us he still thinks about traveling but maybe with a different mindset. Side note: that solar system has 9 planets... 134340 or Pluto is there!

Jin finally finds the word he was looking for in his crossword. He has found Family. The Astronaut, the star, can settle down. He found a cozy place and a family with ARMY.

His happiness is complete when he hears the bell of his friend's bicycle. She has come to see him. The only times in the MV when he smiles that bright is when he thinks of his friend or when he is with her.

The metaphor here is obvious: we will all smile again together... soon.
