what do you think about the trend of "Bruce Springsteen is a lesbian" and other similar posts (basically blue collar-adjacent cis men being called butch lesbians)?

They do not speak to me at all personally, but I think they're clearly just one potential form of channeling the fact that butches generally have a very particular form of investment in the concept of masculinity and specifically how it is eroticized. That is, I have been pretty clear that being butch for me is not a fetish, in the sense that it is not an arousing act put on for kicks. But it is very clearly informed on some level by my sexual attraction to women, AND by what must have been my early childhood concepts of what women find sexually compelling, and in a world where the majority of women are sexually attracted to men and men are socialized to exhibit particular traits, it is no surprise to me that those traits show up reliably in the behaviors of people (male or female) who are attracted to women, because we are a social species. I had a real childhood obsession with handsome playboy characters that obviously did not turn out to be about an interest in men, and for years as a child I drew mostly male characters often leaning on backgrounds being cool- I don't think it benefits anyone to pretend that had absolutely no influence on me, even if it didn't make me into a greaser. And the parts of my behavior that are not sexually compelled are still not divorcable from my sexuality- when I hold the door for a woman at the grocery store to be nice regardless of whether or not I'm specifically interested in her, it is neither engagement in a fetish nor something I would be as likely to do if I were heterosexual. Humans do literally have mating rituals which vary by population in the same way other animals do, and I just don't think we are so special that we can universally or even mostly resist the enticement of a mating dance.

So I have my love of navy blazers and classic menswear and button down collared shirts. For some women that's Bruce Springsteen's ripped jeans and sleeveless tee shirts, I guess. Again, it does not speak to me, but considering it is totally medically noninvasive, I have to say I see it as probably totally harmless, and anyway I'm a city boy so I suspect it's not /for/ me either way.
