Bridgewater doodles dump!! (Different characters wahoo!)

I’m sorry I’ve been away because of 🥰 university 🥰 but I have been in fact keeping on doodling Bridgewater related stuff from when I last posted to until even today! (This is an euphemism to not say I actually draw them every single day) so here’s a dump (Anne, Olivia, Vipin, Jeremy and the Legend Tripper)! (I will post my uni doodles another time these are bigger more complete doodles 🫶)

First of all here’s Anne Becker in the 1980s!! I did 1980s!Becker only once so!! Please don’t mind the fact it was quick doodles djdjjd

The one on the bottom left was how I would have pictured her working at the station, I don’t know why but I mostly picture her with long hair when she was younger and that then she cut it for a sort of pixie cut (probably after Thomas’s disappearance)

Olivia and Vipin doodles!! Wanted to try out that new sketchbook and I wanted to try something more realistic with my brush pens, and also had added more piercings to Olivia following @stillwinchester’s idea 🙏

Jeremy Bradshaw my beloved!! Wanted to draw him with something else than his usual outfit I draw him with, gotta admit, I like that one!! I think he’d defo have some shirts with that kind of motif for summer

Jeremy Bradshaw doodle, I wanted to try another outfit and face angle so yeah, drew him with eyes closed and a mothman kinda t-shirt ksksks + a Legend Tripper doodle too!! I was also trying a new outfit for her, I mean I see her as totally fashionable to be interesting to people as she has a very distinctive style, let’s just say that I LOVE designing her!!

the world inferno friendship society

three years ago, I was bored! I wanted to play a new game. I wanted to play a game that:

had good reviews

had anthropomorphic animals

i had never seen game play of before (blind)

That is how I found out about Night in the Woods.

Night in the Woods was a 2d-platformer story game released in 2017 that-at the time-I had HEARD of but never got around to actually seeing anything about it.

So I played Night in the Woods, and it was

WONDERFUL

I can not stress how much that game impacted me. It instantly became one of-if not-my favorite story game of all time.

I started doodling NITW-style drawings in school. I dug into the history and learned about Scott Benson. I scoured through all of his art that I could find and saw some amazing stuff.

However one day, I found this comic Scott Benson had made and posted to itch.io. It was called the Bridgewater Astral League and apparently it was

"A short comic adaptation of an album by the World/Inferno Friendship Society."

What lured me in however were the preview images, which looked like this:

I read the comic, and I had no idea what was going on.

I felt confused? Confuzzled? but the art was pretty! But me being me, I wanted to know MORE.

So I looked them up, and then

began my three year long hyper-fixation of the coolest punk band in Brooklyn, New York.

The World Inferno/Friendship Society.

Now I will attempt to give factual information which I may very well get wrong because I am going off the top of my head. Whoops.

The WIFS was started by a man named Peter Ventantonio who would go on to have the stage name Jack Terricloth.

In 1987, before making the WIFS, he formed a punk rock band in New Jersey named Sticks and Stones.

In 1995 he adopted the stage name Jack Terricloth and started to make the songs that would become part of the WIFS. I heard in an interview that one of the Band's most recognizable songs Tattoos Fade (some would call it their "call to arms") was actually made while Jack was in Sticks and Stones but the song was rejected by the other members. I don't know how true this is, this isn't an essay, please take it with a grain of salt. It was a band for sure. Their style was unlike anything I had heard at the time, and it was a PUNK band! I think one person put it best when, in a review of one of their charity albums released this year, he said how Jack wanted to

"Write songs that made you cry like your heart was broken, but dance like you'd been brought back to life at the same time."

I’m not sure if I shared this last time I got into this podcast, but I can’t WAIT to listen to Season 2 of Bridgewater! It left on such a cliffhanger last time and I’m on the edge of my seat waiting to see where it goes from there!

Musings about why you should never be ashamed of what you love below the cut:

Five years ago at pretty much exactly this time - September 2012 -, I finished watching a TV show that was going to change my life, though I didn’t know it at the time. I did know that the show had absolutely rocked my world, though I didn’t completely understand why. I just felt... different. Like there was something I needed to do, some place I needed to go.

I googled ‘music university Manchester’.

One year later, I participated in a masterclass in Norfolk with a tutor who I wanted to study with at RNCM in Manchester. She was going to retire soon, however, and told me she didn’t take on any more students.

Half a year after that, I met the cellist who would end up being my tutor at RNCM.

Three years after initially watching the show, I went to Manchester for half a year as an Associate Student.

September 2016 saw me going back to Manchester again - this time as a full time student, pursuing a one-year-intensive Master degree.

And now, exactly five years after the first time I bawled my eyes out during the last 5 minutes of Life on Mars, I’ve just given back the keys to my student halls room... and moved into a flat that’s in the city centre of Manchester, right by the canal. I’ve finished my Masters with distinction, I’ve got a job trial waiting for me. I’m ready to build a life in Manchester.

Without Life on Mars, I wouldn’t have done what I did. I fought to be able to come here, because I’d fallen in love with the city, the language, the inimitable accent. It felt like a distant dream most of the time, but then suddenly, it happened, and there I was, in the city I’d dreamed of. And it was perfect. Not that Manchester is perfect, but it’s perfect for me.

That’s just one way LoM changed my life. Through the show I met many great friends, including Fern, who I’ve been in a relationship with for over two years now.

I could go on, of course (and I might do a very detailed write-up over on Dreamwidth soon), but for now, let me say this:

Don’t be ashamed of what you love. Embrace it and let it lead you new places. It was something completely unrelated to what I wanted to do for a living that ended up leading me to the perfect place to do just that. Life on Mars inspired me to make so many changes - to become more courageous, adventurous, more open to the world. To try other things I’d only dreamed of, but didn’t think I’d ever be able to actually do. 

Books, music, TV shows, films - they aren’t just entertainment. They have the power to fundamentally change our lives, given a chance. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.  People might make fun of you for going some place only because you saw it in a film or read about it in a book; don’t listen to them. Follow your heart.

Buyer beware: this paperback edition contains only the stories ... Buyer beware: this paperback edition contains only the stories and none of the photographs of the hardcover edition. I consider this quite misleading, as the reviews here mention photography but are clearly referring to a completely different edition that is in hardcover. If you click on the hardcover edition you will see lots of lovely photos. This paperback has tiny engravings at the chapter headings and that's it. I did look at the "look inside" but since that is a limited view it wasn't clear to me that this was only a stripped-down version of the hardcover. Go to Amazon

the book is just as charming as the pottery I buy a lot of these sort of books, I am intimate with my ups man. Often I am disappointed as the cover art is the best part of the book. Since Ithink this is one of the BEST COVERS EVER I was afraid this might be the case with Toast and Marmalade...but NO! This book is chock full of Emma telling us why she does what she does, her motivation for working with local manufacturers, her very real relationships with her family and conspirators, and a bit, although not enough, about her design process. If I have one criticism that would be it; there is a lot in the book about the manufacturing process and not enough about the work that takes her from concept to a fully executed design. I want drawings, doodles, whatever she does. The photography is gorgeous and yet it doesn't feel overly styled. I recommend Toast and Marmalade. Go to Amazon

I had been wanting to draw Jeremy Bradshaw with his cat for a long long LONG while aka since my first ever drawing of him (the digital one with him sleeping on his couch around his books, magazines and students’ homeworks) because I had made him have a black cat as his lockscreen so I considered him in my headcanons since then to have a black cat! Called him Patrick because it’s silly, it’s one of my cats’ name too, and I love him too much ksksks To me, Jeremy got his cat from a shelter and he was already named this way so he kept it as it is to not disturb the cat! It was a quick art so it’s not proportionally accurate but I needed to picture that!

I’m a bit late posting them but still fkfkfkf and I was very proud of the one done in pencil so here’s the big drawing (I did have more than 5 minutes to do it so I had a bit of fun) so here’s casual!Jeremy on a day off work at home!
