Hey all! Anyone have questions about the magic system in "Do You Believe In Magic" or the rest of my Trafficblr Mage AU? Send 'em my way! 🧙‍♂️
Magical Asks
Hey, have a wip with magic in it? Want some questions for developing that worldbuilding of yours? Reblog to have people send you some of the numbers below!
Are there any recreational uses of magic? In games, hobbies, or otherwise? Or is it too important/difficult/dangerous for that?
How does magic affect the wildlife? If it’s only available to a limited species, how do these species use the magic to interact with wildlife? Hunting, animal keeping, gardening?
What careers require magic use? How so, and how are those in these careers treated by society?
What negative effects does magic have on the user? On their appearance, behaviour, or physical or mental condition?
What is the “source” of magic? Is it inside people, or does it come from some external source? Is it everywhere, or only concentrated in certain spots?
Are there certain people with stronger magic/more access to magic than others? How rare are these people? How are they treated by society?
How well understood is magic by people? What is education like for the topic of magic?
Are there certain identifiers for magic users? Appearance or behaviour-linked?
Are there any tools that help with magic use? Physical objects, or words to say, or tricks to concentrate better?
Are there categories of magic? Can a single person use more than one of these categories, or can one person only use one? Are some people naturally better at certain categories than others?
Is the majority of the world aware of the existence of magic? If so, what is the general populace’s opinion of it? If not, how is it kept secret? Or is it not intentionally hidden?
What are some things that even magic can’t do? What are some things that you couldn’t do without magic?
When magic is being used, is there any obvious indication? Does something about the magic user’s appearance change, or is there a sound or appearance or smell, etc. of the magic itself?
What symbols are linked to magic? How is magic often depicted in illustrations? Are there different words for magic/types of magic?
How is magic use affected by the emotional state or physical or mental condition of the magic user?

I legitimately think a lot of people get too hung up on how other people write or draw characters (both in MCYT and outside of it). I sometimes feel like there's so much bitterness towards fellow fandom members just because they've chosen to enjoy a character or corner of the fandom in a different way. Do you picture the characters the same way the creators are IRL? Fun! Do you have a much more fanonized interpretation because you want to separate the characters from creators? Great! Do you tend to lean toward one kind of design overall in your art because that's just how you enjoy the act of creation? Fantastic!
Short, tall, thin, fat, human, hybrid, something entirely undefinable - every single option is correct. Every single option is right. That's the point of creativity and creative liberty. That's the point of fandom and the whole reason why fan art and fan fiction exist - to take what canon gives you and make something, whether that something clings to canon's every note, or if that something turns canon on its head. Especially if it turns canon on its head.
This is a vast fanbase built upon a sandbox game, and any creations we make should be treated the same. It doesn't matter if it doesn't fit the bill for what someone else thinks, and it doesn't matter if it doesn't fit some standard mold. If everyone else views Grian as a parrot avian, but you love writing him as a cod? Do it! If a lot of folks depict Tango as a blazeborn, but you fucking love the idea of him being an android? Well, for god's sake, what's stopping you? Make him an android! Does everyone else write Bdubs as short, but you think it'd be really funny if he was taller than half the hermits, so the short jokes are even more ridiculous? Then, holy shit, I wanna see that!
But to roll back to the point, fan creations is meant to be fun. And all of you out there being picky? As a viewer of other peoples' art and writing, don't go telling people they're "doing it wrong". Don't be critical. Don't tell someone they need to "do better" if their portrayal doesn't line up with what's in your head. There's no rules here. And similarly, there's no quota we need to meet on variety. There's no law someone is breaking if they're not following your expectations. If you're a viewer of art and fics, and you're pissed at someone because you believe they don't draw or write someone tall enough or short enough or thin enough or fat enough or young enough or old enough - make it yourself. Don't detract from someone else's joy just because their version of having fun in the fandom doesn't line up with yours.
People are going to create what they love. People write and draw from a place of inspiration and enjoyment and fun. If they choose to share it, they're doing that for free and of their own free will. They didn't share it for you. Fan artists and fan writers aren't here to be your dancing monkeys, we're here to just have fun. If you aren't seeing enough of whatever you're expecting to see, then don't demand it from other people who were proud enough of a piece of art to share it with the world. Make it yourself.

Yeah exactly!!! I’ve thought about this before too, that because there’s always a new series, a new season, or even just a new plotline or episode - it’s always fresh and entertaining. You never know what to expect, and discussing that with friends or mutuals or witnessing the new creations that come from it - it’s all so much fun! I started some of my biggest fics in fandom because I saw one cool new moment in an episode and went “what if…?”. Martyn said “I only do white magic” during Double Life and it spawned an entire Witches-and-Familiars universe of stories. I started a multi chapter fic about the Hermit/Empires crossover and amnesia because it hadn’t even happened yet, but everyone was theorizing that there WOULD be a crossover, and one stray tumblr user said “haha wouldn’t it be heartbreaking and kinda funny if the Emperors didn’t remember their friends or soulmates lol?” and I was like “YEAH THAT’S NEW I LIKE THAT”
New episodes and new series and new stories spawn new everything. It’s never boring around here, and I love it to bits!
You know, a lot of fandoms I’m in can fade out of my focus after a while. ADHD is like that, where I’m extremely hyperfocussed on one thing for months at a time and then suddenly it just - fades, and a new one pops up. But for MCYT (for Hermitcraft and Traffic and Empires and the rest) that hasn’t been the case. I’ve had occasional and very short one- or two-week breaks to get into something else for a minute, usually old fandoms or new show binge sessions (FNaF, Supernatural, Poppy Playtime - I’m currently watching House beginning to end for the first time lol) but I keep coming back to MCYT.
It’s been years by now, two or three at least. I’ve made so many friends through this community, written so many stories - joined events and conventions specifically to write or cosplay or create something new for the fandom. It’s…kind of amazing. There’s always something new happening, and not nearly as much drama as I’ve seen in other fan communities. It’s refreshing and I’m so so happy to be here.
Most of my fandom experiences haven’t lasted this long. It’s unique in that regard.
Guess it took a game as timeless as Minecraft for one to stick around.

The response to this video has been absolutely jaw-dropping. Thank you so, so much for enjoying my silly parody idea! 22k in less than 2 weeks...y'all are bonkers and I adore you greatly! 💙
I would LOVE to create more of these, if people want to listen. A few Hermitcraft parodies are in my lyric drafts, a few more generic Minecraft ones...other fandoms as well. One for the Life series if the words agree with me. It's such a silly hobby that I've had for years, just writing parody lyrics in Google Docs and not doing anything with them...but if people really want to hear them, then I'm more than happy to share!

anyway the actual point of fandom is to inspire each other. reading each other's fics and admiring each other's art and saying wow i love this and i feel something and i want to invoke this in other people, i want to write a sentence that feels like a meteor shower, i want to paint a kiss with such tenderness it makes you ache, i want to create something that someone else somewhere will see it and think oh, i need to do that too, right now. i am embracing being a corny cunt on main to say inspiring each other is one of the things humanity is best at and one of the things fandom is built for and i think that's beautiful

Hey all! For anyone who grew up watching and/or playing Minecraft when it was still a newer game
(I'm talking the Dan TDM, Captain Sparklez, Yogscast, Tobuscus, Stampy era)
What do you remember/miss about the older era of Minecraft and MC YouTube? It's for science (and possibly a project I'm working on in the background)
Reblog for a bigger sample size!
