Ive recently got into next gen fanfics and just wondering if you wanted to recommend some good ones? I mostly read Jeddy so far but I’m not opposed other pairs as well if yo my have any other favorites.

“Feeling a bit peaky, actually,” Harry said upon kicking off his shoes in the entranceway at Grimmauld. “Want to get some takeaway? My treat.”

“Sure,” Draco said, flicking away the rain that had caught them only briefly on the front doorstep. Thunder crashed loudly outside. “Good night for a laze about, anyway. Indian?”

Harry hummed. “Sounds lush. Any special requests? There’s a place up the road that delivers, so we don’t both have to brave the rain.”

“Samosa, naan. Something with paneer; not Vindaloo, please.”

“‘Kay. Let me call it in and then we can head upstairs and slip into something more comfortable.”

Draco raised an eyebrow, and Harry blushed. “I just meant not our work clothes, Merlin.”

Draco hummed knowingly, but let Harry call in their order and dutifully followed him up the stairs without another word. Once in their now-shared bedroom, though, he began unbuttoning his shirt without even turning away.

“What?” he asked, cocking his head with a grin as Harry watched on.

“Nothing. Nothing at all; please, carry on.” Harry collapsed onto the neatly-made bed, making to take off his socks but not removing his eyes from Draco. Inch after inch of gloriously pale skin was revealed to him, the inky black of Draco's magical tattoos swirling over his torso. A burst of flame erupted from a two-dimensional dragon’s mouth, the dragon eyeing Harry warily.

Harry shrugged off his robes and rolled down the sleeves of his button-down, beginning to unbutton his own shirt. His eyes flicked from the tattooed dragon's up to Draco’s, who was watching him with something akin to hunger.

“What?” Harry asked, winking at Draco. He tugged loosely on Harold, pulling Draco’s right wrist away from his task and urging him towards the bed. Draco grinned, stalking to the bed to stand between Harry’s legs.

Harry reached his hands out tentatively, wrapping them around the backs of Draco’s legs. Draco tucked a finger under Harry’s chin, tilting his head up to look at him. “Did you want something?” he asked sweetly.

Harry hummed, sinking his fingers deeper into the meat of Draco’s thighs. “Maybe.”

Draco ran his thumb over Harry’s bottom lip. “You’ll have to ask nicely, if there’s something that you want.”

Harry opened his mouth a bit, brushing his tongue over the tip of Draco’s thumb before sucking it into his mouth. He watched Draco’s smile widen and his eyes go dark. “What a good boy,” Draco said, and Harry shivered, using his tongue to take in more of Draco’s thumb.

Draco pulled his thumb out, spreading Harry’s spit over his bottom lip before inserting his pointer finger into Harry’s mouth. Harry sucked it in, biting down on the fleshiest part gently, then harder. He watched Draco’s eyes and nostrils flare. “Oh, this is going to be fun, isn’t it, darling?” Draco cooed. “What do you want?” he repeated after a moment, pulling his finger out of Harry’s mouth to allow him to respond.

“Kiss me,” Harry breathed, tipping his head back further. Draco’s fingers drifted down and wrapped loosely around Harry’s neck as he leant down. Harry could feel Draco’s breath ghosting over his lips, his whole world whittled down to Draco’s eyes and tightening grip around his neck.

“Good boy,” Draco breathed, finally brushing his lips over Harry’s own. Harry’s eyelids fluttered shut as he allowed Draco to control the kiss, pressing them together again and again. He felt Draco’s tongue slide over his bottom lip and opened his mouth with a quiet moan.

A sharp knock rang out from the floor below, and Harry cursed himself for removing the Fidelius Charm all those years ago. Draco stepped back, releasing Harry and leaving him to flop back on the bed with a half grunt, half groan. “That was fast,” Draco said, sounding frustratingly unflustered.

“Ugh,” Harry replied, palming his half-hard cock through his jeans. He sat up just in time to watch Draco pull a clean muscle tank on.

Draco pulled a t-shirt from a drawer and tossed it to Harry. “Come now, mustn’t keep our food waiting.”

Magnificent Maddy, beautiful @thebooktopus, sweet special someone...here's to you!

Maddy started this excellent month last year, so it seems only right I start with her this year! All the effort and LOVE Maddy put into her posts last year? Incredible. I checked every day, so excited to see who she would talk about. I ended up following several new people last year thanks to her, and checking out many new stories (even for ships and tropes I don't normally read!) And I walked away with many new friends!

Following March last year, I was deep in Snarry-a-Thon hell, having actual meltdowns trying to write Contempt. Listen, I'm a mess on a good day, especially when writing, but never more so than writing Contempt! And when I was sobbing and second-guessing myself, Maddy was one of the lovely humans who offered to look at my draft for me and who encouraged me to keep going. Truly, I have no idea what I would have done without her and others' help! My poor precious fic would have ended up in the trash, if not my whole laptop on fire! Her time and care meant so much to me then and is still so special to me now, knowing how important her help was in finishing a work I love so much.

There is such goodness in Maddy's heart, and her generosity and kindness are so inspiring and incredible. She has been an absolute sweetheart! Of course, Maddy is more than just the love she gives. She is a creator in her own right! So many goodies she's made, a variety of ships and stories! I've specially selected FIVE to recommend to you! On Hope & Healing (E, 14530) (Draco/Harry)

Harry and Draco haven't seen each other in seven years, since Draco left the Aurors—and Harry—behind. So Harry can't help but be surprised when he starts working as a Healer at St Mungo's and runs into Draco. Draco—still just as gorgeous and talented—is neither a fellow Healer, or a patient. He's a cleaner, and always around. Can they put aside their differences, or are they doomed to repeat the same mistakes again?

This is a comfort fic for me, and I wish I could give it kudos all over again every time I read it. I don't always love a getting back together fic, but this one is especially sweet and more focused on the pining than any angst. I love seeing these two work through their problems- it features a very determined Harry and Draco doing his best to keep him at a distance. Ali's smut, as usual, is ON POINT. Highly, highly recommend you give it a read!!

Thank you, I’m happy you like the recs! I don’t usually read kid fics but I actually got a few recs for you. Haven’t read A Big Black Sky by alexmeg but I reckon it explores this trope. HP Rec Fest - Part 1 (Days 1-16)

Boy, has it been a moment since I've gone through my fanfic bookmarks. Thankful that @hprecfest has given me a reason to do so and rediscover some old gems!

Anyways making this list made me realize that I'm a connoisseur of explicit content so most of these are smutty and I'll leave that up to you to decide whether that's good or bad

(These are almost exclusively post-war fics where everyone is an adult, unless otherwise stated!)

1. A favorite fic under 5k: If We Lie Like This by everythingokay

(Harry x Charlie Weasley, rated E, 4.1k)

Harry/Charlie is one of my absolute favorite ships of all time, and this is one of the sweetest pwps I've ever read of them, so you know this had to be my first rec.

2. A comfort fic: Lumos by birdsofshore

(Drarry, rated E, 41.5k)

This is one of my oldest bookmarks, and still one of the best. I love, love, love eighth year fics, in no small part because of this one. The summary really says it all:

"Harry never expected to spend eighth year listening to Draco Malfoy wanking."

3. A podfic

I've truly never listened to a podfic in my life, I just prefer reading I'm sorry

4. A fic with art: What Have You Been Hiding Under Those Robes, Professor Malfoy? by Booktopus

(Drarry, Rated E, 15k - art is NSFW!)

Finding art in my fics is such a rare, exciting surprise, especially because I rarely go looking for them. Now, a GIF? And a smutty gif at that? Of tattooed professor Draco? What. A. Find.

5. A non-AO3 fic: The Lust of Gryffindors by Fearful Porpentine

(Harmione + so many pairings/groupings, rated M, 381.5k, aged-up during canon)

Yeah, I'm pretty much exclusively an AO3 girlie, so I don't have many options for this one. Still, this is a standout as one of my favorite smutty extravaganzas.

6. An unreliable narrator fic: Touch by bixgirl1

(Drarry, Rated E, 45k)

I had this fic on my TBR for so long before I actually read it, and when I finally did, I was KICKING myself for waiting so long! I love touch-starved characters finally getting what they need (is it self-fulfilling? perhaps), and I never thought a sleep-deprived Harry could be so funny.

(I'm aware this is an unreliable narrator in the loosest sense of the word but I'm sticking with it because it NEEDS to be recced)

7. A canon-compliant fic: With the Edges Worn Down by MayatheBee

(Harry x Ron x Hermione, rated E, 13k)

By "canon-compliant," we mean "takes place so far in the future that canon can't disprove it," right?

If so, then here's my pick. After Ginny's death, Ron and Hermione decide to finally act on feelings that have been ignored for their entire friendship. It is so, so sweet and so, so hot.

8. A canon-divergence fic: Safe Word is Devil's Snare by ShayaLonnie

(Neville x Hermione, rated E, 97k)

Hot Neville Agenda? Hot Neville Agenda.

Neville is fast becoming one of my favorite characters in fic (both in reading and writing). I'm a sucker for him growing into his self-confidence after the war while still being the same loveable plant guy we know. And a forced marriage with hyper-competent Hermione? Get ready for the spice, y'all.

9. A rare pair fic: 93 Diagon Alley by Schmem_14

(Harry x George, rated M, 30k)

I'm quickly realizing that most of the fic I consume (outside of drarry) is rare pairs, but this is one of the best. Harry and George leaning on each other through their grief, and realizing what they need to get through said grief is, in fact, each other? Sign me up. I usually avoid stories that feature Fred's death as a significant plot point, but this is too well done to ignore.

10. A fest fic: Beware: Naked People Ahead by SonnenFlower

(Lots of pairings, rated M, 6.6k)

I’m recommending this fic not only because of the absolute hilarity of the premise, but because it is a part of one of the best fests I’ve ever come across — the Hermione’s Nook Naked Weasley Fest! This fic had me laughing the whole way through (and crying when I wasn’t.)

11. A dark fic: Whore by orphan_account

(Harry x Fred x George + noncon, etc, rated E, 141.6k, takes place during canon)

Listen, I don't read dark fics very often. They tend to crush my soul and spin me out. This is my "I want to hurt" fic — SO MIND THE TAGS.

12. A WIP you're following: New Blood by artemisgirl

(Pairings still evolving, rated M, currently 1.3 million words, takes place during canon)

As a general rule, I don't read many in-progress fics (this is a personal fault because I get too impatient and invested). But when I started this fic, it had over 1 million words and didn't seem to be stopping anytime soon, so I took the plunge. It features a Slytherin, overpowered, badass Hermione, deep fae/wix lore, and a unique twist on all our favorite characters!

13. A fic with over 100k words: Finding Sophrosyne by mlfoyskhione

(Drarry, rated T, 136.5k)

An eighth year fic where everyone in Hogwarts falls into an unwakeable sleep...except Draco and Harry. Absolutely delectable.

14. A favorite series: Harry Potter & Seven Years of Chaos by Severitus812

(Harry x Fred + Severitus, unrated, 1+ million words; takes place during canon)

When I started this fic, the first six parts were published and part of the seventh. I DEVOURED them in a week, and I still haven't gotten around to finishing it because I'm positive it's going to break my heart. Still, an absolute beast of a story that is so, so fun to experience!

15. The most recent fic you bookmarked: The Best Laid Plans by Drarrymadhatter

(Drarry, Draco x George, Harry x Fred, rated E, 6.6k)

Okay, I’ve bookmarked entirely too many fics since the start of this fest, so to avoid repeats, I’m recommending the last fic I bookmarked BEFORE then. Based on my url, it couldn’t be more perfect — Draco, George, Harry, AND Fred? Absolute perfection. Sexy, sexy perfection.

16. A fic that made you laugh: I WANNA SEE SOME ARSE by thefrancakes

(NottPott, rated E, 10.5k)

From the title of this fic through the end of it, I was laughing. And where I wasn’t, I was fanning myself because. Hot. Damn. I’d never shipped Harry and Theo Nott until reading this.

So many excellent fics here...and yet I'm even MORE excited about the next set of prompts! Until then!

Thank you for sending this my way :) Apologies I don’t have a ton to rec for myself (blushes). I only started writing late January 2022, yes this year, so I think I have a decent excuse!

That said, here’s what I got:

1 - Candy Hearts “I Love You” - I really challenged myself with Candy Hearts (I did 19/28!), especially when a prompt didn’t particularly inspire me. This was one of such instances, and I remedied the lack of inspiration by throwing a ton of myself into the writing. So it’s written in first person Draco/M POV lol I think this one may be my all-time fave.

2 - Candy Hearts “Beloved" I got the idea while brushing my teeth, slammed my toothbrush down, and ran to write it. It’s weird, it’s spooky, I love it. It got 8 likes on Tumblr but one person *got* what I was going for and wrote it in the tags, and I s2g I jumped up and YESSSSed. I have no chill. I also HC my stories a ton and I like to pretend that this is Draco from “I Love You” doing *anything* to keep his Harry safe.

3 - Kinkuary Toys My first smut! I’m really proud of myself for actually going through and writing it, and even more proud of myself for asking for help with it. I was *very* nervous, especially because I wanted to show hot sex in an irl setting where things aren’t usually all CLOTHES OFF OMG LEGGO. It was also the first story I ever used a Beta for, and I haven’t stopped screaming about Maddy (booktopus) since. I’m actually not tagging on purpose b/c she’s probs sick of my screaming (I said I have no chill).

4 - Under the Tuscan Moon My first fic! I love this story so much, and it would be done if I had not become fest obsessed (I have 3 current fest pieces in the works…). I started writing it with clear journeys for Hermione and Harry, but have fallen in love with Ron’s. I’m so excited for what’s to come for them.

5 - Rebel, Rebel The longest work I’ve written to date! It’s a fluffy feel-good piece that started as me asking myself (while listening to David Bowie, duh), “What would happen if Scorpius went Muggle to give his father hell?” That’s not what I ended up writing, but I kept the title 🤣 I have so many HCs about the characters that I couldn’t quite add in there, and I'm really proud that the OCs have resonated with people. He has his own playlist and a very special place in my heart!

He swept into the flower shop at least once a week, bringing coffee and those “sand biscuit”… things, and browsing the display bins and shelves. Sometimes, he’d leave with a bouquet or a potted plant; sometimes, he'd spend the time chattering away about whatever came to mind, seemingly forgetting all about flowers.

“Neville,” she said, staring at the plant. “Did you... did you bring me a potted pansy?”

🌹 There’s a Thunder Inside My Heart (It’s a Wonderful Pleasure) by @serenecalamity // E // 9K // ok this is maybe only 5% flowershop AU and 95% Harry having a daddy kink and I am HERE FOR IT. 🙌

Just because Draco lived in the Muggle world now, didn't mean that he had cut off ties with the Wizarding World completely—he didn't think he would be able to do that if he tried, given it was all he had known growing up—so maybe there were a few spells that he used to help him around the shop that gave him an edge compared to other flower and plant boutiques, and he and Neville Longbottom actually talked at length and shared a lot of tips when it came to Herbology.

🌹 A Garland of Pansies by @agentmoppet // E // 8K // Pansmione // the PINING. the FLIRTING. the BOUQUETS. all SO good, 11/10 would recommend.

Snarling, she pushed herself away from the wall and descended the stairs. Halfway down, the rich, calming scent of flowers hit her, and at least thirty percent of her hangover vanished as a smile appeared on her face. She always loved that the florist shop’s aroma didn’t quite reach her flat above it. It kept the olfactory association limited to her work, rather than blurring the lines between the two and making her sick of the overpowering florals. And that meant that every time she entered the shop, it was like the first time all over again.

🌹 Camellias: Red for Desire by @maraudermandy // E // 6K // Charlie/Angelina // this was the first fic I've ever come across for this pairing! super hot and fun, both pretending to be muggles until George throws a wrench into things.

Charlie opened the door and Angelina’s hand squeezed his as a gasp left her lips. She stood in the entryway as her eyes roamed over the displays of florals and colors. She had never seen so many florals in such a small space. There were intricately made bouquets displayed as well as buckets of individual flowers sorted by type and color. She wasn’t familiar with too many muggle flowers, though he didn’t need to know that, and Herbology was never her best subject, but she couldn’t help but be in awe at the beauty surrounding every corner of the shop. He turned and looked at her, blushing at the bright smile on her face.

“Welcome back.” He said instead, because he was a reasonable, functional adult in his late twenties, with duties and responsibilities, and absolutely no time to cultivate a crush on Draco Malfoy, of all people.

It became a daily routine. Around nine-thirty am the bell above the door would chime and Harry would walk into the shop. Draco couldn’t help but notice that his mother never seemed to be around to help serve, so he found himself dealing with Harry’s increasingly strange requests for flowers and plants.

“No, no. I was wondering if you could help me. We have a mutual friend and she told me that you know the meanings behind different flowers and I,” He paused, “This is going to sound horrible probably, but… I would like a bunch of flowers that says ‘fuck you' in the most passive-aggressive way you can manage.”

Knight of Cups - Unspeakables

The Privilege of Being Yours by @phd-mama (E // 21K)

WOW. I just finished up this absolute MASTERPIECE, easily my favorite thing @phd-mama had ever written. It is full to the brim with good things - an incredible plot, Unspeakables Draco, Luna, and Hermione working to save the Forbidden Forest, sex magic and absolutely magical sex, great banter, and this very believable growth between our boys as the plot progresses.

The Forbidden Forest is dying. Hogwarts is in danger. His home, his first home, needs him, and there’s nothing that they could ask of him to save them that Harry wouldn’t give. He’s already given his life once.

I needed a fic like this today. It was cathartic, and I definitely got a little weepy as Harry's story unfolded. It's written with such care and it just made me want to wrap everyone involved up in a big hug and give them a little kiss on the forehead. Cannot say enough good things, definitely go give this one a read!!

Three of Pentacles - Getting Back Together

Ghosts of Hogwarts Past by @writcraft (E // 30K)

Ghosts are showing up in large numbers at Hogwarts, where Draco is a professor, and Harry is called in to attend to them. This summary should be enough to draw you in, but let me tell you more just in case. Perfectly peppered flashbacks that set up their history. A wlw ghost love story. Ghostly/haunting motif that is woven beautifully into the narrative. Sentient Hogwarts. Scorching yet sweet smut. There are just so many incredible elements to this story; it's definitely been added to my favorites list.

“I thought you left to get away from ghosts.” Draco looks anywhere that isn’t at Harry. “Odd that you're back because of them. Maybe the spirits have risen from the dead just to encourage the great Harry Potter to return to Britain?” Draco knows he's being facetious, but Harry seems willing to let it slide with just a flicker of a frown, before moving briskly on.

This fic laid me bare. Getting back together fics are hard for me to read because Drarry is such a comfort ship for me that the idea of them loving and then hurting each other hurts. But writcraft absolutely changed my mind on this- the growth that they do while they're apart I think is what allows them to really be together, all in, these years later. My mind has been sufficiently changed. There's an honesty in this fic, not just between Harry and Draco but just in the writing that felt very powerful. This was an absolute masterpiece, highly highly recommend!!

King of Wands - Fest Fic

what husbands are for by @softlystarstruck (E // 52K)

Yes, hi, it is I, your local Fangfest fangirl. I want so badly to be chill but apparently it's just not in my DNA. This fic was... I don't even know. Special, precious, tender, careful, funny, sweet... just so many good things. I was sucked in (heh) from the very first paragraphs, and I'd argue that most people would be:

“This bond will remain in your heart, beyond even the deterioration of silk and sinew,” the officiant intones. She pulls at the end of the ribbon, which slithers over Harry and Malfoy’s wrist until it drops in a heap between their feet. Harry looks up at Malfoy, searching for something, a twitch of an eyebrow or the hint of a frown, but he’s still infuriatingly blank.

“You are bound by the tradition of vampires and–” The officiant clears her throat delicately. “Werewolves. Let this union be a union of our societies as a whole.”

This is a slowww burn. Draco is everything I love him to be: prickly and self-protective, but also silly and sweet when he learns to let his guard down. Harry, too, is like a big bouncy puppy that just wants to love someone so badly and be loved in return. The way that they care for each other is breathtaking, it made me want to wrap them up in a big hug and protect them from the world. Luckily, they do that for each other. Ok, this has been rambly and I'm sorry, just know that this was sincerely one of my favorite fics I've read in a long time and I'll definitely be bookmarking it to read again and again.

Two of Cups - Epistolary

Holy cow, friends. I've been busy and distracted lately, having a bit of a hard time settling down for a good read (v sad) but this fic has been calling to me since it was posted a few weeks ago as a part of @hp-bodiceripper fest and MAN am I glad that I opened it up last night to start. It has everything you're looking for: will they/won't they, secret relationship, Harry making questionable choices that work out for him in the end, hot!Draco, epistolary elements scattered throughout, mutual pining... the gang's all here!!

It was a little uncomfortable to think Draco had read the letters this closely. Harry didn’t think he had spent so much time looking at him previously. There wasn’t a doubt in his mind Draco could tell that sometimes Harry swept dirt under the rug, and that he had nicked himself shaving this morning and even that this whole thing had spiralled out of Harry’s control. Whatever he had spent the last few years doing had given Draco a fine focus.

I love Tee's writing, always so witty and smart, the kind where you feel a little giddy at the end, like you just got let in on something secret and special. This one in particular pulled on all my heartstrings, just so well thought-out, lots of great magical theory and world-building in such a tight package. I could not recommend this fic more: it's definitely going on my favorites list and has hopefully jumpstarted my reading engine again. One of Pentacles: Professors

The Quandum Quandry: Harry and Draco's Month of Mayhem by @violetclarity (E // 34K)

What a fun fic! I'm a sucker for professors!Drarry, and this just took that trope and elevated it to new heights. The plot is sweet and funny, lots of meddling friends (and Minerva, bless), magical creatures, and little nods from the author that make you feel a bit like you're in on an inside joke.

"He doesn’t like that he’s been assigned to potion-making duty with Harry at all. It feels so juvenile, like they’re serving detention. Combined with the recent resurgence of his feelings for Harry, he thinks he might as well be trapped in one of his fifth-year fantasies, late at night in an empty classroom where loathing can easily boil over into lust."

It's your classic "we tried this and it didn't work and now years later we're both still trying to pretend we're not hung up on it" - the alternating POV is perfect for this. I also totally fell in love with Tibby and Mephistopheles, Harry and Draco's pet Quandrums who are so well fleshed out and make for the perfect little characters. The pay-off in the end is sweet; I definitely left this fic with a smile on my face. Highly recommend!!!
