Anyone who has ever in their whole life dug even one proper big hole in the ground knew that Blindspot wasn't serious the minute Kurt Weller was holding a shovel and up to his elbows in a nice squared off burial plot.

dual destinies is really interesting to me because it feels like it’s almost an attempt to kind of sanitize the franchise & that’s why there’s so few references to past cases, but at the same time is literally about how the false conviction of two men sent the entire law into a state of turmoil. like you’re trying to tell me that people are getting falsely convicted left & right because people are treating law like a game to win & yet yr not going to mention how edgeworth himself was falsely convicted by his former mentor who felt the exact same way? not gonna mention how phoenix was falsely convicted thanks to another lawyer? and, like, yeah, of course not. if you know anything about aa1 it feels incredibly uncomfortable to have edgeworth prosecuting athena, which is why the game doesn’t say a single thing about what happens in aa1, but they’re still trying to insist society here is super complex and super awful, because there’s one guy on death row

Happy Monday Fandom :) This episode is all kinds of cute. I love it so much. We get to see the depth of what Lucy would do for Tim. After he just showed up what he’d do for her in 5x12. It’s so good. Let us get started.
5x13 Daddy Cop
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We start with Lucy in roll call. I would like to point out Lucy picking a spot in the back of the room. She’s never once done that before. Doing it so she can check in on her husband. Lucy is somewhat subtle about it. But she can’t help but check on him. Knowing the bullet he took for them. She literally can’t help but look back on her man. Such lingering glances too. *heart clutch.* You can see in the second one he’s looking back at her too. How can these two kill me so much with such subtle glances? Damnit I love them so much.
Tumblr media
Lucy could not be cuter running up to see Tim before her shift. Physically turning his chair around. He couldn’t be happier to see her. First time we’ve seen him light up today. You guys are so loud and I love it. Little work flirt before her shift. Lucy saying looks like he has a lot to uh....Liaise LOL Tim straight lying to his person like he thinks he can get away with that nonsense. Lucy replying she thought they would never lie to each other.
Tim shooting back 'That was a lie.' Lmao I’m dying their banter on point as usual. The sassy face she gives him. Be more married you two please. Love these idiots in love. Lucy can’t stand it and says he’s miserable. Tim with a very unconvincing ‘No…’ Lucy isn’t buying what you’re selling....Babe your girlfriend sees right through you. Always has. She has the book of Tim locked away in her head.
Tim trying to convince her it’s not that bad. 'Nice people…Low stress….'The more you speak the more she knows you’re dying Tim. A subtle cry for help. Or not so subtle really lol He doesn’t regret doing this for her at all. But she can’t stand him doing this when he’s so clearly miserable. Lucy knows this man. He will suffer in silence if it makes her happy and they get to be together. A decision I know he would make again. Because she is his person also as we saw last ep his blindspot. So he would do anything even at his own detriment.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Her big friggin dork of a man giving her a thumbs up and telling her to 'Be safe out there.' LMAO I love this man so much. Dork Tim has been activated. She loves this goober in front of her nonetheless. Lucy’s cute head tilt knowing he’s putting on an act for her. Then he lights up like a Christmas tree saying he’ll see her at the end of shift. He can’t wait because he has someone to go home to now and I love this.
The most genuine he is the entire scene. Knowing he will get to see her end of shift. The best part of his day will be seeing her and I love that. It’s written all over his beautiful face. Lucy however isn’t smiling as she walks away. Knowing this job is making him miserable and she can’t stand it. His intentions being the best and purest. But also knowing she needs to fix this for him somehow. She just doesn’t know how just yet…
Tumblr media
Lucy sees Metro piling in and immediately thinks of her man. How well he would do there. How good he would fit in. I just adore her conferring with Harper one this. Also her spending the entire episode trying to find him a better position. Earlier in the episode they had a convo about a 5 player trade. Trying to create an opening so one could open up for Tim.
Metro has now become a potential option for Tim. She wants to start her trade. Harper warns her this could come with consequences. For her and Tim. To Lucy that’s worth it though. Tim blocked her making a sacrifice in 5x12. He is WORTH the risk of her ruffling some feathers to get him a better position. Never be over them consistently doing whatever for each other. Makes my soul happy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So much to love about this next scene. I adore Lucy seizing the opportunity to solve Tim’s job problem with the group. They’re all gonna be at Nolan’s anyways... Might as well be one giant brain to save her man from his desk job. Super brains assemble and you know Nolan lol Their sticky note game is strong as they try to figure out an opening. Just as they crack it Tim shows up at the door.
John says his name loudly so they all hear him. Which causes them all to scramble to disassemble their brain storm session. So funny to watch them get the post it’s down as fast as they can. Then trying to get back to their seats as John does horribly at stalling Tim. I mean it's so horrible and awkward. Tim's face when Nolan is speaking is too funny. Wondering if he made a mistake in coming over here... LOL
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I love him pointing out Lucy’s car and no one else’s. Could care less there are other cars out there. He points out his girl's car only and asks about it. This makes me giddy on so many levels. The minute he enters the room they could not be more obvious. The looks say everything. Also all these scenes just hit differently knowing they’re together. Makes me so happy. Look at Lucy above she couldn't be more obvious if she tried. You're a UC Lucy you can do better LMAO Being under pressure is the name of the name and you fall like a cheap house of cards here haha. It's too cute though especially with her little eyebrow pump.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Let’s not gloss over how delicious Tim looks in this scene. I always love me some street clothes Tim. But hot damn that tight t-shirt and those jeans. His hands in his pockets showing off those biceps.*fans self* Angela’s face when he talks to Lucy I’m dying. If she didn't know at this point she sure did now. Look at her in that first gif. So telling it's hysterical. Tim sensing something is off but he isn't sure why. Like did you think your man wouldn’t notice this?
So he zero's in on his girl and asks if she's ok? Not anyone else in the room just her. I LOVE how softly he asks if she’s ok? Looking right at her. Tim lights up when he speaks to her. Which gives me all the feels. His Lucy demeanor on full display in this scene. Seriously be more obvious you two. Lucy looking smug as hell and trying to keep it under wraps. Angela continues to crack me up with her expressions. Angela Lopez you are a treasure.
Tumblr media
Lucy comes to Smitty he is the final piece in this 5 player trade of hers. They figured out how to get it done but he is sadly an essential piece. Lucy goes into this scene prepped and ready to go because well it's Lucy. This scene is hilarious because Smitty already knows the plan if Fuji retires. Flooring Lucy completely. I commend Melissa and her facial expression here it’s so funny. She gets Smitty to agree to help her in getting his friend to retire. He wants a favor though. Lucy immediately says 'Nothing weird.' LMFAO. Oh the things we do for love.
Tumblr media
Tim eagerly comes to find Lucy end of shift. He’s so excited he’s going to come out of his skin. He heard about Lauren Fuji retiring. He's so excited as he explains this all to her. Look at that man. Bursting with joy to share this news with her. I love the pre-excitement on her face as he speaks. Saying she doesn't know how he keeps its all straight. Well played Lucy hehe
I adore him running to his person the moment he has news for her. Lucy is his safe place. One he goes to for all things good and bad. What I love most about this is Tim allowing himself to be this excited and keyed up around her. The man is glowing most of this conversation. Not holding back one emotion from her. Being as genuine as we’ve ever seen him. It does my heart good to watch him thrive in this relationship with her.
I’ll probably say this multiple times in this season. But this is what it looks like to be truly and unconditionally loved. The background this man came from, the relationships he had before her. It's hard to express emotions when they're always suppressed like his have been in the past. It's a joy to watch him like this. He's never experienced what he's had with her before. We’re watching this new Tim come out and it glorious to watch unfold. To see what it looks like when he properly loved on. To be put first and built up.
Tumblr media
We watch as Tim tells her his tale. Explaining what all this means. Getting more excited by the minute. The way he leans into her as he tells her everything. Lucy pretending she doesn't know any of this. Playing dumb about it all and damn well at that. He has no idea. Lucy acting like this is all "new" to her. Tim getting all amped up letting her know there's an opening in Metro now. Well that there was.... Alluding to his reply down below.
Tumblr media
What is getting her all smiley and excited is his excitement in this moment. It’s infectious and she is beaming with happiness for him. Knowing all the effort she put in was so worth it to get this reaction. She knew he would be a good fit and this proved it. He is BEAMING with excitement when he tells her he got the Metro Job. No one else he would rather share this with. This whole relationship is such a good look on him it’s insane.
Lucy's affectionate hit is everything. He loves it and is it's only adding to his already insane amount of excitement. All his other work achievements she had to regulate herself. Now she can fully be herself and be excited for him. Hence this cute reaction of hers. Loud and proud wifey right here. She is so damn excited and proud of him. No one has been a bigger cheerleader for this man than her. it’s only amplified now that they’re together.
Tumblr media
Tim tells her he got a rock star review from Grey. Then we get some massive heart eyes from Lucy. Look at her above. If you wanted to see what being in love look it's her expression. What I love about this is Lucy getting to tell him he’s amazing. To his face. For years she’s told everyone around her about this amazing man. Gushed about him. This is the first we get to see her say it to his face. For him to hear her say it. Not only that but to hear it with so much love, pride, and affection in her voice. Love in her eyes for him. *squee* Building him up once again in a way only Lucy can. This is so precious I cannot.
Tumblr media
Tim is feeding off her positivity and love. That nose crinkle might be the death of me. He’s SOOO amped and being this excited in front of his girl has me feeling things. He is so bright and happy it’s making me a puddle of giddy goo. Lucy brought this man back to life in so many ways. She is bringing out this new side of him and I’m so here for it. I’m so giddy for him and Lucy is feeding off it as well. I continually ask. Have we ever seen this man this excited? This happy?
We can thank that beautiful powerhouse standing in front of him. All he wants to do now is go out and celebrate with his girl. Which is massive growth btw. He’s not one to be excited outwardly about promotions or awards. But this is post-in love with Lucy Tim Bradford. He is bouncing off the walls he’s so excited. He gets to have his cake and eat it too. See his person every day and have a new exciting position. Love this first thought being he wants to celebrate with her. This man has changed and grown so much. It's glorious to behold. Truly.
Tumblr media
Lucy wants to go out and celebrate with him so badly. If it was up to her they would leave that station right now and do that. Sadly her favor still needs to be cashed in…I love his little puppy face when she says she can't. He wasn't expecting to be spending tonight without her and it shows. All over his handsome face. You can see it's killing her to say no to him right now. But sadly Smitty and his favor can not wait. Even if she doesn't know what the hell it is yet LOL
Tumblr media
I adore him immediately asking if she needs any help? I love this man so very much. Such a soft puppy for her. Only ever see him like this with her. He is thinking they may going out but least he can be with and help her with whatever this favor is. Ever the sweet supportive boyfriend and I love it sfm. Man really would do whatever for that woman in front of him. They could watch paint dry and Tim would be in cause he would be with her. Lucy tells him it’s something she has to do solo.
Tumblr media
Lucy follows up she wants to celebrate him tomorrow. I love her saying celebrate 'You.' Not his job but to celebrate YOU. Look at this man above as she says this. He is legit basking in her praise, excitement, and love right now. What I really love is as she continues to congratulate him he leans closer to her. Looks like he wants to kiss her. Once again forgetting they’re in the bullpen. Their magnetic pull activating in the final moments of this scene.
Lucy saying her line above with so much love and affection. Her words having an effect on him. It shows in this next mini moment. We can see him grab her hands and pull her towards him gently in that second gif. The amount of squeeing I'm doing. Tim friggin Bradford grabbing for her girl. Pulling her closer at work out of instinct. In the bullpen of all places. Not caring they are in public. He is high off her excitement and this new job. Looks like he just wants to kiss her in this moment. Pick her up and spin her around he’s so happy.
Tumblr media
She has to break the spell sadly. Remembering they are at work and she has to go do her favor.. but not before telling him 'Good job!' Look at this man's face as she departs. That’s a ‘I’m going to marry that woman someday.’ face. He is glowing with love and it makes me so happy to see him loved right. He is a different man since they got together. He is exuding so much love for her and pure joy. Just looking and being happier in general since 5x10.
Gah Eric killing me softly good sir. Happiness looks SOOO good on you my love. He’s earned every ounce of what he’s getting from Lucy. Just love this character so much. To finally see him be treated right getting me all in my feels. Best girlfriend ever and he has no idea what’s she done for him. She didn’t want credit. She just wanted him to be happy at work. Once again putting that beautiful man first.
I saw someone posted watching this scene was like ship crack cocaine lmao it’s so accurate I can’t haha. I’m getting high off their happiness in this scene. Tim is bouncing off the walls and Lucy is absorbing it all. The only payment she needed was knowing he was happy. Ugh they’re so cute I love it sfm. I’m so gone for these two. I haven’t loved a ship like this in a long time. I knew when I started this show they were going to be something special. Proven me right so many times over. This season truly is a gift.
Tumblr media
We see what the favor is. Smitty wants her to deep clean his RV. Says he hasn’t in years. Telling Lucy since the Bush administration. Lucy’s eyes bulge out. Asking 'Which Bush?' LMFAO. She finds out she’s doing it solo. We then get this great shot of her in a hazmat suit. Chemicals and cleaning supplies at the ready. Knowing it won’t be great. Her ‘Oh dear god.’ Hahaha things we do for the ones we love. Her cleaning his nasty as RV so her man could be happy ❤️❤️
~~~~
Side notes-non Chenford
I love the Cold Open for this one. Daddy Cop is hilarious. If this didn’t get stuck in your head you're lying lmao
I loved Tim helping Celina out with her mom. Also what is about this man saying Spanish words with that inflection that gets me every time? Ovary explosion for me. When her says Celina’s mom’s birds names. Lorca and Neruda does it with inflection and I’m a damn puddle.
Also her asking if she single LMFAO He very is not Mrs. Juarez haha Also the way he says Juarez does thing to me lmao I have no shame in how i feel haha
The most ooc thing Katara did post-atla is not do ANYTHING about Aangs favoritism with their children. The Katara I know would’ve demanded he spend equal time with all of his children. Imo it shows how much her relationship with Aang made her a quiet, docile housewife and I find that really disturbing.
I'm going to be a bit controversial and say that it's actually not that OOC for her. Even in the main series Katara has a massive blindspot when it comes to Aang's nonsense. After living with Aang through his disappointment of his first two children being non-airbenders, I could see Katara buckling under the pressure and letting Aang do whatever he wanted. She definitely has her moments of OOCness, but I think they tend to be more in the comics in the way that she's content to just be the Avatar's Girlfriend.
For all I harp on Aang (and will continue to do because he's awful), Katara is an unhealthy partner for Aang, too. She held the Avatar on a pedestal, and in doing so ignored and even enabled Aang's worst traits. She certainly never held him accountable. I firmly believe that the only reason she ended up with Aang was because she felt like she owed him. Katara, as she was presented throughout the show, would have told Aang is she liked him. Especially since she knew for certain he liked her. She gave herself to him (after their horrible last few encounters and with no speaking lines on her part) because he was the Avatar and he'd saved the day (not really, but...) and he wanted her. I think that carried over to her children. She owed him his airbenders because of everything he lost. You can't tell me that Katara didn't feel some misplaced guilt about only being able to give Aang one airbending child. So, while I do hope that as a mother she did her best to shield Bumi and Kya from Aang's neglect, I'm equally certain she wouldn't have stood ten-toes down to him to force him to take responsibility for them, and that tracks from how she treated him in ATLA.
daredevil headcanons!
a giant list of comic, live action, etc. daredevil headcanons i've been growing in a twitter thread since april. or march, i think.
Tumblr media
COMIC/LIVE ACTION AMBIGOUS: • matt knew all the college gossip bc of his super-hearing and he'd tell it all to foggy who'd bride people candy in exchange for gossip/rumours. • on his way from class matt would pass a fruit stand where he'd examine each strawberry for the perfect one and bring it back to the dorm for foggy. • foggy can solve a rubik's cube really fast and he's incredibly proud of it. he always eventually does it in front of a new friend & it's kind of like a functional version of the butcher story. matt used to be able to solve one really fast before he lost his sight & he continued to try solving one with the help of his powers but it never worked until foggy got him a braille one; then he got intimidatingly good at it again and foggy regrets indulging him. • matt doodles - like gibberish but for drawings? because he gets restless during late afternoons and when he's not around foggy takes them and adds his own stuff. sometimes matt will run his fingers over the ink and notice that foggy's turned his nonsense into a cat or something and take it home to stick it on his fridge just because. karen also hates it because they leave them all over the office and it gets into her files, her bag or in the pages of her books. • matt and karen use wired earbuds; foggy has airpods. • matt fucking loathes carbonated drinks. • matt loves wheat thins. • matt spouts sun tzu lore when he's drunk; foggy talks about hamilton. • in college, people thought foggy was gay but since everyone knew matt was a whore they all expected it to also extend to other gender identities. • foggy is pan; matt is bi but only 'cause he rushed to pick a label and he can't be bothered changing it. • matt has bpd.
COMIC: • matt has a bunch of weighted blankets bc the pressure blocks out external stimuli (it's canon that he filled his bathtub with water and floated in it when his senses were too sensitive as a child). • kirsten is black - matt used to straighten her hair for her because he knew the perfect temperature to get it really well done but without heat damage. • blindspot had to leave the country because he's an illegal immigrant but matt has a part of his salary set for monthly trips to wherever blindspot lives. • when matt was in prison in zdarsky’s first run he only sent and received letters from 4 people - foggy, kirsten, elektra and sam. sam (blindspot) would give him a rundown of everything happening outside the us because prison television only showed national news. • matt taps his foot to music he hears blocks away sometimes without noticing and it annoys the hell out of foggy but he doesn't tell matt to stop because it's rare that he doesn't have self control over bodily movements like that 'cause y'know - ninja stuff. • sam taught matt bits of mandarin whenever they were on breaks when he was working with matt at the da's office. • sam would tell daredevil about his day and mention how much be looks up to matt and daredevil would often go silent whenever he's talking about matt. (this is live action canon) matt sucks on his lip when he's comfortable enough in any environment to be visibly nervous. • matt and mike both doodled idly. they weren't really cool drawings, mostly just scribbles but matt was getting pretty good at drawing inanimate objects before he was blinded, now he just scribbles. mike still scribbles but at one point in high school he took an art class and actually liked it so he kind of tried enough to get 80s. he does a full fledged drawing or two every year now. nothing exciting, he drew butch this one time and someone in a waiting room another time but he still scribbles.
LIVE ACTION: • matt's laptop doesn't work all that well bc it's second hand but he knows just the perfect amount of pressure needed to make this specific key on the keyboard work just right. • matt's hair in nwh was a product of foggy and karen messing with him or that was just plain mike murdock. • foggy takes photos of matt like all the goddamn time and matt hates it & they're awful but he's conventionally attractive so they all look fine. in college foggy used to sign him up for dating sites as his Wingman™ and used some of those photos. • foggy reads fanfiction and so does matt but he only listens to what foggy recommends while foggy is the one that searches for fanfics when he gets really into some kind of fiction. • foggy set aside some of all the money he'd made in big time lawyering (in defenders and s3) for matt's therapy and first aid supplies.
The Dance of the Dragons: A Military Analysis (Pt. 6)
Having already discussed the Battle of the Gullet and the taking of King’s Landing in Parts 2 and 3 (Master Post here for first time readers), Part 6 will take a brief step back into 129 AC to cover events in the Reach. As noted in Part 1, George’s decision to ‘spawn’ supporters for Rhaenyra in the Reach is one of his most frustrating; we have next to no explanation as to why the houses that supported her chose to do so, but their presence also exposes a massive strategic blindspot within the Dance itself. In short, had Rhaenyra and the Blacks given supported her followers in the Reach from the start, they likely would have won the war. Utilizing  the map of southern Westeros found in A Dance With Dragons illustrates this quite well; this map is the most detailed we have in terms of giving locations of house seats within the Reach and gives us an indication of which houses are considered important enough by George to warrant including.
Of twenty-one House seats shown on the map (counting the Arbor and the Shield Islands each as a single seat), eight are of houses either neutral during the Dance (the Tyrells) or are not mentioned in the Dance: Red Lake (House Crane), Brightwater Keep (Florent), Bandallon (Blackbar), Blackcrown (Bulwer), Sunhouse (Cuy), Ashford and Grassy Vale (Meadows). Excluding Oldtown, only House Redwyne (the Arbor) and House Fossoway (Cider Hall) are known to have supported Aegon II, while the rest were supporters of Rhaenyra: Honeyholt (Beesbury), Longtable (Merryweather), Bitterbridge (Caswell), Horn Hill (Tarly), Uplands (Mullendore), Golden Grove (Rowan), Old Oak (Oakheart), Tumbleton (Footly), Three Towers (Costayne) and the Shield Isles (Grimm). This critical mass of major houses supporting the Blacks is compounded further by the fact that, with the exception of House Peake, all the other named supporters of the Greens seem to be minor houses or landed knights: Roxton, Norcross, Ambrose, Rodden, Leygood, Graceford and Risley. Even the Fossoways require an asterisk based on Lord Owen Fossoway being mentioned among the so-called ‘Caltrops’ at Tumbleton; given Cider Hall’s location south of Longtable, it’s entirely possible the Fossoways were neutrals or Blacks who joined Aegon’s cause after the victories of Daeron and Ormund.
George’s inexplicable decision to weight the scales against the Greens of the Reach is made worse by nonsensical writing once the fighting starts. Upon setting out to putdown the Black rebellions within the Reach, Ormund Hightower’s army is attacked by the forces of House Beesbury and House Tarly, while House Costayne’s forces attack his supply train. This scenario makes no sense geographically, for while Costayne’s seat of Three Towers is located just south of Oldtown at the mouth of the Whispering Sound and the Beesbury seat of Honeyholt is further up the Honeywine, the Tarly seat of Horn Hill is almost a 10 day journey from Oldtown. It requires Ormund Hightower to be completely unaware of Alan Tarly departing the Dornish Marches and entering the Oldtown region, and to ignore the Costaynes and Mullendores to his south and east despite the threat they posed to his rear area. We know from Under the Regents - War and Peace and Cattle Shows that House Peake supported Aegon II from the beginning, and while we have no exact location for their house seat it seems likely that Starpike is located in the Dornish Marches. Are we to assume that Unwin Peake failed to combat Alan Tarly’s forces, even though House Peake fought alongside the Hightowers at the subsequent Battle of the Honeywine? We must also assume that not a single house in the Oldtown region supported Aegon’s cause outside of the Hightowers, as support from the likes of House Cuy and Florent would have made it difficult for the Costaynes and ‘the Two Alans’ to operate against Ormund’s host with such impunity. The idea seems never to have occurred to besiege Honeyholt and Three Towers, cutting off the Costayne and Beesbury forces from what should have been their main source of supplies, and taking their families hostage to force a surrender.
The complete absence of the Hightower and Redwyne fleets, as well as a disuse of river transport, is another frustrating omission by George. Honeyholt and the Mullendore seat of Uplands are both located next to the Honeywine and it’s tributaries, while Three Towers is right beside the Whispering Sound. Laying siege to Three Towers should have been fairly simply for Ormund with the aid of the Hightower and Redwyne fleets, while the Honeywine itself would have been a boon logistically. From Samwell Tarly’s final chapter in AFFC, we know that the Isle of Ravens was used by pirates to raid ships coming down the Honeywine during the Age of Heroes, implying that the Honeywine connects to the Whispering Sound in a manner similar to the Thames Estuary and the London Docks IRL. It’s not unreasonable to assume that coastal shipping and sea-faring vessels with shallow enough drafts would be able to navigate certain stretches of the Honeywine, and this also assumes that the Reachmen never attempted dredging the riverbed to improve it’s navigability (as was done to European rivers throughout the Ancient and Medieval world). Utilizing river transport as a ‘floating storehouse’ so-to-speak would allow Ormund to decrease the length of his supply train and give his forces greater mobility. Such ships could also have been built or modified to carry in-world artillery such as Scorpions, Catapults and even small trebuchets (the latter of which were used on ships by Danish raiders during the Siege of Paris in 885-886), assisting Ormund’s forces in besieging locations like Honeyholt, Uplands and Three Towers or if they had to give battle near the river itself.
Ormund’s position deteriorates further after the Battle of Rook’s Rest, when he informs the Green Council of a host equal to his own bearing down from the north, lead by Thaddeus Rowan. With him was Tom Flowers  of Bitterbridge representing House Caswell, and their army is described as being comprised of mounted knights; based on estimates of the size both armies made in Part 4, this force composition presents a problem for the narrative. If we are to believe that the Rowans, Caswells and their allies raised a mounted force capable of rivalling Ormund’s army as a whole (giving them an advantage as great as 10 to 1 in mounted troops), then their rate of march must also be considered. Rowan’s force was on the march just before or after Rook’s Rest, but the next we hear of them is at the Battle of the Honeywine, which took place a fortnight after the Battle of the Gullet in 130 AC. The Gullet took place between January 5th and 6th by our calendar, meaning the Honeywine battle took place on January 19th or 20th; 129 AC ends sometime after Rook’s Rest, so anywhere from one to three months may have elapsed before Rowan and Flowers made contact with Ormund’s host.
Journeying from Golden Grove to the Honeywine would probably take a fortnight and the journey from Bitterbridge might be five days longer, but Rowan’s mounted force should have been able to make the journey in far less time. They should also have been able to utilize river-based logistics similar to the Hightowers, given that Golden Grove, Bitterbridge and their allies are situated along the Mander and it’s tributaries. We know from Victarion Greyjoy in AFFC that Ironborn longships can travel up the Mander as far as Bitterbridge when most sea-faring ships stop at Highgarden, while John II Gardener was able to sail his barge as far the headwaters of the Mander according to TWOIAF. As with the Honeywine, George effectively pretends that the Mander does not exist, while the vagueness of the timeline will be a recurring factor in the Dance.
The Battle of the Honeywine itself does not permit much tactical analysis, as we’re only told that the battle took place along the river with Rowan and Flowers attacking from the northeast and Costayne, Beesbury and Tarly attacking from the rear. Having failed inexplicably to deal with the threats to his supply lines, Ormund Hightower and his army are cut off from Oldtown and facing certain defeat; only the intervention of Daeron and Tessarion that prevents this, and the battle ends with Rowan in retreat to the north, Tom Flowers and Lord Costayne dead, and the ‘Two Alans’ taken prisoner.
In analyzing this first act of the Dance in the Reach, it is clear that George did not grasp the implications of his decision to furnish Rhaenyra with such significant support there. Without Daeron’s intervention, the Battle of the Honeywine would have been the death of Aegon’s cause in the Reach, as Oldtown would have been defenseless; surrender would be the most likely outcome, and with it Rhaenyra would have had the agricultural heart of the Seven Kingdoms on her side, along with the largest armies of any of the Seven Kingdoms. With control of the Riverlands and the Reach, the Blacks would have cut off Aegon from his allies in the Westerlands, and could threaten that kingdom with invasion from the south and east. Aegon would have only the Crownlands and the Stormlands at his immediate disposal, and only Vhagar and an injured Sunfyre as a defense against Rhaenyra’s dragons. Had Daemon and Caraxes left the Riverlands (now firmly on Rhaenyra’s side) and joined the Blacks in the northern Reach, Daeron and Tessarion would have been hard-pressed to defeat them, and a Black victory would be assured.
don't know if I've ever asked before but if you could choose which films (that are able to be) released by criterion, which ones would you like them to do? (in my dream world if they did an "in & out" one I'd laugh so hard I'd die then buy it)
unfortunately my answer to this is very no-nonsense and it's that criterion needs to answer for their blindspots, specifically their lack of films by women, black filmmakers, films from african countries especially, films from asian directors who aren't kurosawa or ozu, and just more international cinema in general that isn't being funded by the world cinema project.
also i think we as a society need to divest a little from criterion as the be-all end-all of boutique distributors. there are others out there doing great work, such as warner archive, olive films, arrow films, and many more. they should be part of the conversation also, and a lot of times people beg for movies to enter the criterion collection that are already in a loving home at another boutique label.
Cinder is polite
I was thinking once again about that 'Cinder is feral and has no manners' characterisation because she's an #unhingedwoman and the way this is extrapolated from her villainy, and I think this is interesting because effectively here female villainy = subversion of feminine traits (e.g. the femme fatale is sexual in a way good girls aren't; manners and cordiality expected of a good girl is rejected, etc.) - this is actually true in the reverse for many male villains and there's a relationship here that is gestured at sometimes about the way gender is used to convey undesirable traits in a villainous figure. It's not necessarily consciously meant to be like that but it is definitely working at a subconscious level. (This is also probably why villains can be so interesting because there is inherently a broader span of expressed behaviour/mannerisms. I also think this is why women can really enjoy fictional male villains because there are a lot of women who like effete characteristics in men).
I think this is most interesting with Cinder because it is literally not true and runs completely counter to her canon depiction even, and especially, including her interactions with her enemies. She's polite to a fault. She's polite as a manipulative tool, certainly - but she also uses politeness as a way to falsely let Raven think, for instance, that she has the upperhand by going ahead of her out of the elevator (but not Vernal). Cinder knew Raven was going to betray her, but thought she had the right of it since Vernal was the Maiden in question.
She's polite in order to be undercover in Beacon. She's polite to Pyrrha when she's dying. She's polite with Adam before he refuses to play along and she, Emerald and Mercury massacre the camp. She has an idle polite chat (with taunting) at Haven with the main cast or whatever the gaggle of heroes is called. She's polite with Vernal, and she's even a little apologetic in killing her. She's polite to ply Watts and Neo into her bidding; a little ego-stroking is all it took to get him to play her game. She's polite when she addresses her masters/tormentors and is obligated to use it as a tool to navigate the situation she's in.
She's polite polite polite polite polite, measuredly and markedly caring about manners, which runs completely contrary to the way she attacks her goals and the things she wants (which is absolutely no-holds-barred intent). The tension between what she wants and what she's compelled to do is threaded through her entire character. The politeness is a tool she knows how to use; it's a social grease. It's part of the mask embedded in her character. At the very heart of Cinder is this conflict between who she really is and who she's trying to be and what she thinks she wants and what she really needs.
To say that Cinder's feral and has no manners really diminishes what I feel to be is the true angle of her villainy, and that in her is actually something screaming and trying to get out... it's not to say that politeness is inherently dishonest, but that someone she can be honest with is important. I don't think her redemption arc necessitates that she 'learns how to be civilised' or any such nonsense.
This type of archetypal and interpretive blindspot is incredibly fascinating to me, particularly when this is one of the most overt features of Cinder's character and defines the expression of how she manipulates those around her and those above her.
As much as we all loved the Late Queen she was soft when it came to her family. Charles seems to be following in his mother's footsteps, at least where second sons are concerned. Philip was the one who took care of family issues, and there was no mistaking where you stood with him and he didn't suffer any fools. It's not a coincidence that everything fell to shit once he retired. It'd be awesome if Charles would let Anne, who takes after her father, deal with all of this and take on her father's role. We need her no nonsense approach to put an end to this once and for all.
The Queen's blindspot was Andrew and Charles' is Harry. However when push came to shove, The Queen did make hard decisions, her personal preferences not withstanding.
Blindspot Season 2 Episode 19 spoilers
Weller and Jane are posing as hackers for the case of this episode, and they just had to solve the most d&d puzzle ever.
A plaque next to a door had "the simplest answer will get you through this door" and then below it a whole lot of nonsense posing as a math word problem.
Jane was focused on the word problem/puzzle portion, lamenting they didn't have Patterson to help them (because she's a genius and amazing) and Weller, in all his simple minded, fighter or barbarian (like the d&d classes) style thinking just........ Takes a hold of the handle on the door and opens it.
Jane basically face palmed and was like "oh. Right. The simplest answer will get you through the door. Just. Open the door."
I feel like basically every dm has a story where they put a door or chest in front of their players that could just be swung open, but their players have spent an unnecessary amount of time trying to test/or find a puzzle/trap in a situation where there wasn't one. 😂
[note to self: think more on the team's d&d class assignments. I feel like Weller is a battlemaster fighter tbh, I feel like Jane could be a monk..... Patterson could be a artificer?
Anyone else have thoughts on this?]
I've come to the conclusion recently that eloquent and sophisticated essays providing apologia for Rin/Shirou are pointless. It scarcely matters how compelling and articulate the argumentation is, or how well the passages adduced bolster the central thrust of the lucubration, if someone simply didn't initially understand Rin, they never will. Not really. I have lost track of how many times I have managed to "sway" someone around to appreciating Rin and the UBW romance more, with their proving themselves to be perfunctorily adroit at regurgitating my own prolix ramblings, and even rhetorically gifted at insufflating their own essays with impressive rhetorical flourish and ornate, evocative imagery, only for them to subsequently demonstrate themselves as congenitally incapable of truly applying what they had learned (through rote memorization) to reach deeper insights about the character on their own. If I didn't hold their hand like a fucking baby and condescended to them, they would never realize their errors.
Rin/Shirou is something that you simply intuitively understand, or you don't. You can certainly produce analyses, but you should never do so with the expectation that that is going to truly convince anyone. I certainly don't think the romance was a particularly abstruse and opaque part of the story, but for some reason it does appear that one needs access to mystical arcane means to comprehend it. But really, what's the point of deservedly singing the praises of Your distortion if you're going to spew bullshit like Rin was adapted well in the HF films (remember, it doesn't matter how much you explain to someone the nuances of Rin's character in HF and how her relationship with Shirou is crucial to groking her out, they'll still see her as nothing more than a support pillow for Sakura (the sisters storyline really was a mistake), and Rin is nothing but that in the HF films, so it works out for them right) or just spew factually incorrect, easily disprovable nonsense like "Shirou doesn't stay with Rin or settle down to have a family with her in UBW" (could the UBW ending poem and anime finale be more explicit, you morons?)...?
And this admittedly enough doesn't apply simply to Rin. I am perfectly willing to admit that I myself have many blindspots and there are many characters that I appreciate on a technical level but cannot confidently say I meaningfully comprehend (not just in FSN, but in general). The difference would ultimately be however that I simply don't discuss those subjects and characters. But some feel compelled to pontificate at length about Rin and spread contumely against her, whether intentionally or unintentionally. Just please shut the fuck up and don't discuss her at all if you're too obtuse to get it.
Anyway, I intend to write something on the underappreciated aspects of Rin and Archer's character dynamic, and its role in UBW. Been planning it for months, but things kept coming up.
I think actually we should remake the "OG trilogy" but have more changes to established lore. (ALSO LIKE regardless of changes to lore you uhhh Have To Change Stuff because That's What An Adaptation Is???? All movies change at least SMTH because what flows well in a book doesn't look good on screen!!!) But also fuck it why shouldn't Galadriel be black??? And Legolas?? They already added more women & better female roles in the first trilogy we should do it again
CANNOT comment on the hobbit movies cause uhhh I watched the first one and was so bored I never bothered w/ the other 2. Its just WILD how deep rooted the Racism goes because nobody ever questions my white ass on whether I've read all Tolkeins works (I haven't! I read The Hobbit and I got halfway through Fellowship but couldn't get on with the flowery language, the only other Tolkein I've read through is his Beowulf translation).
IDK sorry for rambling but like, I don't understand how anyone can look at the questions ur receiving and not go "oh hang on, maybe this isn't abt me, maybe I should listen to someone telling me they're worried abt racism" when like the whole point of Privilege as a Concept is that u don't KNOW what privileges you have until someone tells u shit they experience and u don't! like white privilege is microaggressions like me never being questioned on my Tolkein Authority!
IDK about having Galadriel specifically as black since she is described specifically as being “pale-skinned” though that does give me the idea for literally everyone to be black and thus the “pale-skinned” Galadriel is just my skin tone in a world of people 5 shades darker than me tada fixed the story.
Since Tolkien’s a bit too flowery for you: Legolas’ hair color is a matter of debate because he’s usually depicted with dark hair due to in-universe reasons however Orlando’s Legolas really popularized the character being depicted as blonde so you can tell in illustrations whether the illustration was done before or after the PJ movies. And people get really mad at each other over this. Like, really, really mad. So now Legolas is both black and blonde fucking deal with it.
Also Glorfindel is back to being a woman now, yeah when he reincarnated he specifically asked for a female body and so she’s a woman and y’all got your Glorfindel scenes back but she’s still a woman because fuck you that’s why. At the end of the day these are fictional characters and thus it doesn’t really matter, it’s an adaption, it’s not meant to be word-for-word.
Anyway yes your point 100% agree, the entire topic here is “I think you folks are ignoring a race-based blindspot you have because you’re convinced you’re Good And Right And Moral but your reasons are overall hypocritical and there’s probably a different reason this specific adaption caught your ire” and “just because the post you agree with says it’s for XYZ reason I’d pay a lot of attention to the fact that they’re deliberately leaving out some racial context here” and “hey it kinda sucks that the first adaption of this universe to feature black people has a targeted campaign against it, feels kinda like white fanboy nonsense to me”
20 Questions for fic writers
I was tagged by my good friend @ahunter8056. LOL I don't know if these answers are what you're expecting, my good sir, but it's a good way to get me into my own version of NaNoWriMo since I had to miss last month due to work. Anyway, let's crank these out so I can get to finishing up chapter 4 of season 2.
1. How many works do you have on Ao3?
The technical number is 8. Two of those works are co-authored pieces, one is a special chapter I wrote for a friend's longer piece, and five are mine.
2. What's your total Ao3 word count?
This one took some math so I didn't take credit for anyone else's work in the colabs I have going on. Roughly the number sits at
685,899 give or take a few thousand.
3. What fandoms do you write for?
More recently its WWE and Tom Clancy's The Division in my ongoing story with AtkPlatypus, and the WWE and Dr Who universe with @ahunter8056. I've also written for Supergirl and Blindspot, and if you want to do a super deep dive, I have stories for Criminal Minds, Secret Circle, and Chicago Fire that are posted under a different name over on FF.net. And before you ask, no I'm not giving you that info, you have to go find it. Happy hunting!
4. What are you top 5 fics by Kudos?
Fairytales Start With Curses, The Four Horsewomen: Directive 51, Time Bomb, After Rain, Waiting for You to See Me
I went with works I'm either the solo author for, or ones I am posting regularly on. I'm not going to lie; the fact that Directive 51 isn't the top spot threw me for a loop since AttackPlatypus and I have been writing that one for 4 years. And the best part? Fairytales isn't my Supercorp fic! Look at you go, AgentCorp fans!
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
Are you kidding????? This is my favorite part of posting! I LOVE interacting with the readers! The readers have taken the time to not only read my story, but then comment on it.... the least I can do is interact with them. Not only that, I love reading different reactions people have to chapters I've written. I get a huge sense of pride when a reader correctly guesses a plot twist or picks up on something subtle that I've written in. And just like readers feel certain things while they read, I feel certain things when they guess these things right. It makes me want to keyboard smash right back at them.
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
I'm with @ahunter8056 on this one. The ending for me should provide the reader with at least a small sense of hope. I'm not saying you can't write an angsty ending, but it's just not for me. I think everyday life is angsty enough, so it doesn't do it for me in my chosen forms of escape. Plus, I'm kind of notorious for writing hugely angsty chapters in my stories, so I like to wrap them up with a hopeful/happy ending.
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Easily it's Fairytales Start with Curses. A lot of nonsense goes down in that one, so the ending feels that much more rewarding in my opinion. HOWEVER, Directive 51 is still in progress, so it's very possible that whenever we get around to ending that one, it'll be the happiest ending. But at the rate we're going with that one, it won't end until 2050, so.... let's just stick with Fairytales
8. Do you get hate on any fics?
I can't say that I have. I've received constructive criticism and people disagreeing with the ending or what not. But I can't say it's ever elevated to the level of hate. Now, I did get a chuckle when someone DM'd me to tell us to hurry the hell up on Directive 51. AttackPlatypus and I take the word slow-burn very, very seriously.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Not really. It would be extremely awkward if I did, and I don't think it fits into most of my writing.
10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?
Yep! I sure do! I find crossovers open up a whole different world for our favorite characters to play in. And what's the point of fic if you can't do things like that. I think the craziest is the Four Horsewomen of Pokemon series. But I'd also say that Directive 51 is kind of out there, but if you know the four horsewomen of WWE, it's not too big of a leap to put those badass women into the Division universe.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I know of. And honestly, if you think my mediocre writing deserves to be stolen, have at it lol. There are much better writers out there that would get you so much more attention. That being said, stealing is bad so knock it off.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Not that I know of, but if you want to translate one, go for it.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Sure have! I'm currently writing The Four Horsewomen: Directive 51 with AttackPlatypus. That one is a WWE/Division crossover that we try to update weekly, and it's been going on for four years running. If you like slow-burn shenanigans in post-apocalyptic Chicago, might I recommend taking a look? I've also had the esteemed honor of being asked to co-write the sequel to A Hero Will Save Me Just in Time with the tremendous @ahunter8056. He's brilliant, and I can't believe he asked me to play in the sandbox of that fantastic series. Seriously, go check it out, it is well worth the read!
14. What's your all-time favorite ship?
This is like asking me to pick a favorite child. And quite honestly, the answer will change depending on the day. So I'll answer it this way: my first ship was JJ/Emily from Criminal Minds. The ship that will always hold a special place in my heart is Clexa from The 100. My angsty ship is Caitlyn/Vi from Arcane. Favorite canon ship? Wayhaught from Wynona Earp. But my all-time favorite? I think I have to go with the four horsewomen on a poly. It's not a popular choice, but those four are so good together, that I just have to give in.
15. What's a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?
The Four Horsewomen of Pokemon series. I think that series had some solid potential, and the writers involved were all extremely talented. It just became too difficult to stick with on an individual level, which unfortunately brought the whole series down. But I do love those characters and hope to one day pick it up again.
16. What are your writing strengths?
hooooo boy.... um.... I think I'd say quiet, emotionally charged moments between characters. It's kind of a staple of mine, especially in my earlier writing. In the same vein, I'd say characterizations. I love dissecting characters to discover what makes them tick, so a lot of writing could also be seen as a character study. Oh, and angst as a plot device to get us to the happy ending.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
FLUFF. I cannot, under ANY circumstances, write fluff. It's like I'm deathly allergic to the stuff.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue language in fic?
I honestly don't understand this question. But if I had to guess at what's being asked here, the question is about writing in a different language if it's being spoken between characters. And I think if it's done in moderation, it's fine as long as there's a translation at the end of the chapter. But to do large chunks of dialogue in a language other than the original language the fic is written in can be a detriment to the overall story. I think too much of it will take your readers out of the world you're creating, and they'll lose interest.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Mutant X. It was a horrendously written Mary-Sue that got posted on FF.net and then deleted a few years later when I realized just how cringe it was. And no, it no longer exists, so I can't post it even if I wanted to.
20. Favorite fic you've written?
Oh, easily Directive 51. I never expected it to become what it has when AttackPlatypus approached me about it. My stories are usually only one-shots, or small multi-chapters. And here we are four years later and the story has 888.388 words and 196 chapters. And we're not even close to being halfway done. This story has such a special place in my heart, and I don't want to consider what my life will look like once it's done.
A close second would be Fairytales. That story started out as a dare from my roommate at the time. She had gotten tired of listening to me whine about my several-year-long writer's block. So she went out and found a prompt that was followed by a dare that I couldn't write an AgentCorp fic for it. Needless to say, I was able to write a rather solid story if I do say so myself. It got me back into writing, and I will always love that little story for that.
Well, that was an interesting practice for me. I don't usually stop to think about things like this, but I had a blast doing it. Thanks for reading if you took the time! Any questions you may have about my stories, feel free to drop me a message and we can chat about .... well, anything really.
