A Swan’s Son (Or, Taking Care of Bellatrix) (7.5k, E, Bellatrix/Cygnus, Bellatrix/Andromeda, Bellatrix/Sirius) for @hpcestfest
Cygnus will have a son - even if it means killing his wife and dosing his daughter with arousal and fertility potions until she gives him one. But an inclination towards murder and incest runs in the Black family, and Cygnus isn’t the only one with ideas.
My first ever fic which I would genuinely say fits in the “dead dove” category. Not sure I’m going to attempt something like this again any time soon (just kidding I actually have another chapter mostly written I want to add to this fic) (but maybe not more after that), but I’m proud of myself for completing it :)

What counts as incest?
All works submitted must be around one or more romantic incestuous relationships. For the parameters of this fest, we allow any of the following to be considered incestuous…
Incestuous Relationships (Canonical or AU):

• By-Law Relatives
• Step-Relatives
• Adoptive Relatives
• God-Relatives
• Self-cest
2024 Rules Update: OCs are welcome! Be that an original relative that is paired with a canon (book series, films, and extended universe) character (i.e., Harry Potter/OC Adoptive Parent or Child) OR in terms of putting a name to a character who exists in canon, though we may not know their full name. (I.E. Mr Brown/Lavender Brown)
All romantic relationships must be established AFTER the characters have been officially named relatives in some fashion and are aware of this relationship. (I.E. NO previous Draco/Harry before James marries Lucius; NO Sirius/Harry until after Harry is aware he is his Godfather)
This fest welcomes all characters from the Harry Potter extended universe, including games/extended HP properties/Fantastic Beasts, etc)

Welcome to the first ever, ‘Women of the House of Black fest,’ where we celebrate our faves from the wizarding world’s most notorious family.

18+ only as this fest will contain adult content
All content is welcome- this includes (but isn’t limited to) Fic, Metas, moodboards, art, podfics or anything you can think of.
All Content must be centered around one of the Women of the Black family, this includes trans women.
This also includes female characters who have married in or been disowned.
PoC HCs are welcome.
Feel free to create Black family OCs
All ships and all eras welcome, as well as gen fic (no ship). But we do ask that all ship content keeps the focus on the female characters.
We allow adult and dark content- just make sure you include warnings and tag appropriately. This includes (but is not limited to) smut, violence, kinks and Blackcest.
This fest operates with a strict ‘ship and let ship,’ and ‘don’t like don’t read,’ policy. You not liking something is a YOU problem.

my year in fic - 2022
I was tagged by @the-francakes (x), @schmem14 (x), @broomsticks (x), and @danpuff-ao3 (x) for a fic roundup/2022 review/stats something or other, so I'm combining them all here.
2022 was definitely a year of fests. Fests fests fests fests!!! I joined and modded so many fests that I'm taking a month long break in January. But I also had SO MUCH FUN. Fests are addictive and there's a reason for that.
Alright, here we go. Let's start with some stats.

Word Count: 151,378 (alas I did not make my goal of 200k but I'll take what I can get. That's still the length of a full length novel!)
Hits: 56,307
Number of Fics started and finished: 21 works (+ just as many double drabbles/microfics/minifics)
Number of WIPs started: um.... pass
Ships I wrote this year (not including background ships): um.... also pass. There's literally too many to list. I write so many ships it's hard to find a trend. But I guess I gotta answer.

Favorite ship(s): Yo this is such a hard question. Idk EVERYTHING. Drarry, rare pairs, and femslash. That's my answer.
Least favorite ship(s): Fenrir ships. I just can't get into them, but also, I dare you to convince me.
AO3 Fic Writers/Artists/Creators/Readers who have inspired me and my writing this year: ohmygod sososososo many. I'd be so annoying if I tagged them all. Maybe I'll just pick a few
@broomsticks and @consistentsquash for their rec lists! AMAZING STELLAR PHENOMENAL. Jackie also leaves the absolute sweetest comments and Squash is the best hype person you will ever find. I strive to be more like Jackie and Squash.
@thistlecatfics, @bluesundaycake, @danpuff-ao3 for their wonderful characterization. The depth and grittiness to their fics floors me every time.
@the-francakes for her humorous writing and @vdoshu for their creativity. Seriously, you never know what Doshu is going to do next. Every one of Francake's fics makes me laugh.
@crazybutgood, @sugareey-makes-stuff, @anaxandria-writes, @digthewriter for their art. Every time I see their art, I just want to write and write and write because it's so inspiring. I also want to leave them a million and some kudos. Why won't AO3 let me live my best life 😭?
@schmem14, @articcat621, @paulamcg for their lovely comments and dedication to keep reading what I put out. I'm STILL surprised that people like my writing enough to keep coming back 😅

5️⃣ Top 5 works I'm most proud of from 2022 (not necessarily my most popular)
Your Cigarette Smell [Sirius/Narcissa, E, 9.7k] — My fic for @hprarepairfest 2021! Which might be cheating a bit, but technically the fest ended in Jan of this year, and I love this fic so much that I really wanted to count it. But what could be better than Blackcest hate sex for the ages?
What is this, fucking Jeopardy? [Drarry, E, 20.5k] — Written for @hd-cluefest this year and an absolute blast! Cursed Draco and Curse-breaker Harry were a dream to write. This was my most popular fic from 2022!
Rosmerta's Special Brew [Andromeda/Rosmerta (but mostly gen), T, 6.0k] — My fic for @hpqueerfest that is a testament to queer joy and queer love. I love this fic with all my heart 💖
Call me baby (I'll be on the way) [Neville/Blaise, E, 6.3k] — Written for @hp-soulmates which I also modded 🙈. So much MISCOMMUNICATION and oblivious boys in love. Also filled with rare pairs galore!
Death and Undeath [Fred/George, E, 3.1k] — Written for @hpcestfest where I got to dip my toes into the Dead Dove scene. This is a fav of mine because I got to combine magic and science and wove it into George's desperation as he tries to bring Fred back to life.
4️⃣ Top 4 current WIPs that I'm most excited to release in 2023
Oh baby, here we go again. I'm SUPER excited for my fic for @dronarryfest 2023. I can't go into details because it's anon, but I am SO EXCITED.
I've started a longer Cissamione fic that I hope I get the chance to work on next year. Will it ever be published? We'll see.
Time travel Tomarry! I've read a lot of Tomarry but never really written it, so I'm trying it out for the first time.
Might finally continue my Drarry Squid Games-inspired fic. Maybe. Possibly.
3️⃣ Top 3 biggest improvements in my writing over the past year
Brevity: I think I'm finally getting the hang of cutting down scenes so I'm not info-dumping too much on the reader.
Confidence: I've definitely become more confident in my writing. I still wouldn't say I'm the best, but confident enough that I enjoy reading what I write.
Angst: I think I can write a fairly good angsty ficlet now. Fluff and smut, I might need to work on a bit more.
2️⃣ Top 2 resolutions (ways I wish to improve my writing/blog) for the new year
FINISH A LONGER WORK. I would love to actually finish something over 50k words and publish it chapter by chapter.
Cut back on fests (lol, yeah right) and make more room for myself. Be more mindful of my fandom limits and when to step back and take a break.
1️⃣ Number 1 favorite line I've written this year!
What if that was not the end?
Flip back to the beginning. Reink the quill. Rewrite the page.
Would that be enough to forget? Would that be enough to remember?
From White, the colour of flowers, my Drarry Hanahaki fic [M, 3.2k]. Lots of angst, multiple endings, and (un)requited love. I used this quote as a transition between sections, and it's still one of my favorites.

Fest - Hoggywartyxmas 2022. Definitely check out this fest because it's starting soon and it's their last round!
Rec because - Absolutely beautiful seasonal fic. It's about poetry, love, forgiveness and sacrifice achieving the literal impossible of bringing Snape back to life. Beautiful character studies packed in a really rich fruit pudding fic. It's written like a triptych with three character panes going from winter to spring. This is one of my favorite seasonal fics of all time and gets a ton of winter time rereads from me.
"The rest of the tale is rather drab. It makes for no worthy yarn of Christmas."
"Tosh!" Griselda harrumphed. "Invoke the prophet who steered you to good luck during your exploits in war and peace! Tell me of the lion's resolve that shepherded you home to love's arms at journey's end! Regale me with the muse who was love's torch!"
Theatrical absurdity suited her. Everything suited her, as everything suited those who embraced the dangerous condition of je ne sais quoi.

The Lych Yew Gambit (February 2022)

Length - 13000 words
Fest - Five Figure Fanwork Exchange
Rec because - Beautiful, beautiful fic! Don't let the OMC tag stop you from reading this one. Because this is a special fic. It's one of the best character studies of Snape I read in my life. The observer POV is intimate, curious and really meticulous. You are pulled into the observer's world and it doesn't let you go. But you don't want to leave. So that works out! Honestly there is life before reading this fic and life after reading it!
In this way, it suited him to have a cipher for a lover. Yefim was a man who enjoyed lists and numbers more than he enjoyed most other people, and if Severus was going to present him with the quandary of occasionally missing him, it was considerate of him to leave a mystery in his wake. When he was here, there was the mild inconvenience of making a second cup of tea and sharing the bed, and the moderate to major advantage of sex and board games. When he was away, there was the comfortable routine of solitude and the pleasure of wondering about him.

Rec because - Dirtyhotbadwrongdelicious. Also Peter Pettigrew POV. His observer POV helps us to see how extra crazy this family is. It hits harder than a direct POV!! Also it's got my fav line about Sirius :D
He was the type of dog where you had to learn his tells - flattening ears or low growl - or else you would lose your hand.

Rec because - The perfect Snarry. Angry, dark, beautiful! Also really hot. Intense fic! Probably the most intense fic on this list.
How can Harry not despise him? It's been ages since he's been in Severus' arms, and the moment he is, he — it's — damn him, but it's wrong how right it feels. Like all of his broken pieces have been gathered up and stored in a box for safekeeping.

Rec because - One of my favorite fics of the year from one of my favorite authors I discovered this year! A really beautiful fic about trauma and healing. Cedric and Harry are returning to attend the Triwizard Tournament. Of course they have to deal with a lot of their baggage about their past/the war.
“ You were a kid. I was older. I should have…I should have protected you. It’s my biggest regret, you know? I think about it all the time, wondering what might have been different. Maybe I could have helped you. Maybe we could have defeated him. Or at least if there was another witness, maybe more people would have believed that he was back.” The words tumble out so quickly and fully-formed, smooth as gillyweed. This has clearly been the fodder of hundreds of nightmares.

Fest - Cruel Summer 2022. It's their first round!
Rec because - OMG! The characterization! Generally I don’t really see Canon! Sirius in a lot of fics especially in modern Wolfstar. This fic has Canon Sirius the way I see him. He really cares about people. He is super empathetic. For him the Potters are not just his friends but also found family. Also really really tragic. Same for the Remus characterization.
He should have known that it had never been him and Remus alone together in the middle of London, hunched over cheap chips as their breath mingled with the exhaled smog of the city.
The wolf had always been there too.

Rec because - Really beautiful fic about grief/healing/recovery/finding love. It has a lot of tropes I don't normally go for. But the fic does serious justice to the tropes/themes and is a must read!
He waits for Harry to tell him it’s a joke.
He waits and waits, but all Harry does is look at him, a hopeful glint in his eyes. So Ron leans into him over the kitchen table, giving Harry the softest peck on the lips that lasts for longer than expected, because Harry’s startled little puff of air probably means that he didn’t think Ron would actually do it, but then he lingers, his lips warm against Ron’s.

9. Favorite pairing you wrote for this year?
You are starting strong eh? When it comes to fics, I'll say my favourite is still Tomarry and Harrymort. I didn't publish many works this year, sadly. But they are still top 1.
Now... RP... that's a different story. I can't pick. Or can I? I just love them all. So I'll leave here my top 3: Deerhunter (Orion Black/James Potter for the ones that do not know this ship...), Prongsfoot and... damn... ah... lets go for Rabstar? Anyway, Sirius/Rabastan. They are amazing.
12. How many WIP’s do you have in your docs for next year?
Omg let me hide real quick. Wips: 15+... I got tired of counting. But yeah, more than 15. I am going to list those 15 and the chapter's length planned.
