sad lauguste hc that when laurent and auguste eventually get together after skirting around each other for years, things are good for a while. they're both the happiest they've been in a long time. but then auguste starts reminiscing about their uncle, how he'd manipulated and used laurent, and is filled with this inescapable guilt that he's just like him. and this just sort of festers until one day he breaks down and confesses this to laurent, saying he's horrible and depraved and laurent doesn't deserve him etc etc and laurent's still an open wound about their uncle so he lashes out and pulls away from auguste and says one of his signature unforgivable remarks and for a moment takes sick satisfaction that he's hurt auguste. but when he's alone and auguste has left him be breaks down
im all for this sad hc EXCEPT EVENTUALLY THEY GET THEIR SHIT TOGETHER AND ARE HAPPY but yeah this is some 10/10 angst

i've recently stumbled upon lauguste shippers on tumblr and i don't get it... because isn't that what the veretian court did, in a way? what laurent felt disgusted by? what happened to laurent? (just not with auguste, obviously)... idk. incst is awful anyways, plus auguste was way older than laurent, soooo. yeah. i'm aware those are fictional characters but i just don't get it

just out of curiosity, for reasons apropos of uhhhhhh nothing dont worry about it, i went to peruse the captive prince fic tags on ao3. the top three pairings in the fandom are:
1. laurent/damen (2923 fics)
2. auguste & laurent (194 fics) (as in not lauguste lol)
3. ancel/berenger (155 fics)
when you sort by “most hits” and exclude lamen, the top 10 fics are:
1. honeyed poison (lauguste)
2. the oath (genfic with laurent, damen, and auguste)
3. higher education (berencel)
4. uncle, part ii (laurent/regent)
5. non, je ne regrette rien (damen/laurent/nikandros)
6. on a pedestal (auguste/nikandros)
7. after the okton (damen/laurent/nikandros)
8. sent away (genfic with laurent and damen)
9. twenty-five (lazar/pallas)
10. sweeter than sugar (lauguste)
if you sort by hits and specifically include laurent/auguste, of the top 10 lauguste fic in the fandom, only two of them include absolutely no laurent/damen content. (this is excluding linecrosser’s art masterpost, which has the #1 most hits if you sort laurent/auguste->most hits, though this also includes both lamen and lauguste). those fic are #1 most hits, honeyed poison, and #4 most hits, sweeter than sugar. again, of the top 10 most read lauguste fic in the fandom, eight of them also include laurent/damen.
i think it’s valid to want to avoid content that triggers you for whatever reason, and i dont blame people for disliking lauguste necessarily, that’s their prerogative. but it’s strange that lauguste is this fandom boogeyman that apparently is clogging up the tags and showing up in people’s feed all over and is created by anti-lamen writers when there are <100 lauguste fic on ao3, when of the top 10 non-lamen fic it only accounts for two of them, and of the top 10 lauguste fic eight of them also include lamen. this isnt an academic survey or anything but ya know, here are some numbers

lowkey bores me to tears lmfao. like incest shipping doesn't really bother me in general i think but im not crazy about it either + maybe doing it to laurent specifically is a bit cruel? though i guess. i mean he's not gonna know. however i do think there are a million things way more interesting to do with their dynamic!!!! for example we should fiona gallagher-ify auguste's ass more often. i want that twink parentified or whatever theyre saying these days

A short lauguste drabble 💞 context: Laurent has been away on a diplomatic trip to Akielos, and finally returns home.

Auguste brushed his knuckles against Laurent’s cheekbone. “It was rather lonely without you here, causing your usual trouble.”
“I was busy causing trouble elsewhere.” His eyes were glued on his brother’s lips, so pink and plump. He was overly aware of how long it had been since he’d kissed them, since he’d glided his tongue between them.
“You’re a menace,” Auguste growled, his voice deep in his chest.
Laurent raised an eyebrow. “Prince Damianos seemed to enjoy my presence.”
Auguste’s eyes narrowed. “Oh did he now?” he asked. He brushed his thumb against the soft skin of Laurent’s bottom lip. “I hear he likes blondes.”
“He was enamored with me. I’m sure he would have proposed to me, if he wasn’t so dependent on his father’s approval.”
Gritting his teeth, Auguste leaned in closer, until they were only mere inches apart. “Remind me to never send you back there.”
“Afraid I’ll run away with a barbarian prince?”
“No,” he said, voice stern, “Of course not. I just loathe seeing other men pamper you.”
Laurent tilted his face upward, impossibly closer, until his lips brushed against his brother’s. “So why don’t you pamper me instead?”
“A menace,” he breathed, “That is what you are.”
