feeling generous heres a old Gillion thought:

his favorite color is brown. we all know this, and maybe judge it slightly. but i think theres something beautiful in that. i think about the first thing he sees that isn't blue is brown, the ship next to him, a hand reaching to him. and that starts a chain reaction for him.

Gillion loves brown because it's the color of Chip's hair, and the color of Jay's freckles. And before he knew what orange was, brown was Jay's hair and Chip's eyes, something that would remind him of the final burn of a fire, as embers flicker off into dark. And brown is the color of dirt on Chip's hands, and oil on Jay's clothes, and the color of all the ropes on the ship and somehow, such a mundane color is his to enjoy.

And when Gillion reaches land for the first time- Brown is the color of wet sand that used to look so blue. and Brown is the color of dirt and mud and trees, and is the color of houses and copper coins and rusted metal. It's the color of barrels and beer kegs. It is the color of tanned skin and he is hesitant to say he sees brown in peoples laughs, just as he saw blue in tritons.

Brown is the color of withered leaves and wilting flowers and drying grass, it is the color of dead and dying things. It is the color of Kuba Kentas stripes, and it is the color of dried, human blood, and he finds that infinitely beautiful. He sees those all as signs of life, that there once was something, and he knows that they once were something. And he will stubbornly keep those things alive to him, in his memory of browns.

When he learns what Chip and Jay's favorite animals are, their favorite flavors, he guesses that they are brown. They must be, because brown is such a beautiful thing, and his dearest friends deserve that.

(In the black sea, as he is staring at the hollowed, he can't help but try to find brown. There is none. It's ugly. And when Chip dies, he looks for brown, and when that tree dies, he looks for brown, and it's such a comfort to him.)

HALLELUJAH after like over 10 hours I completely theses lil guys!

Here's a lineup! and some extra concept stuff

Edit: I'll also provide some insight on my inspirations for the designs just because (under the images).

For Jay, I was going a cowgirl sort of aesthetic. I tried to combine this idea, her original outfit, and her new outfit all in one. I also found the idea that Jay is slightly taller than chip hilarious so I went with that idea. There's a theme of x's and that was mostly because I thought it looked cool haha. I also put her pin next to her gun holster, since that feels metaphoric or something idk.

For Gillion I went stronger on the shape language. I primarily based him off squares since hes the "tank" of the group. I hoped adding pink in his hair would tie him together with the warmer-colored group. But being completely honest I was also inspired by @/kutakunaga's design here. I still wanted to give a wild look by implementing stuff that was torn or sharp (the seaweed). I love his color palette the most.

Chip was definitely the hardest! For him I went with more triangles to have a more mischievous look. I knew I wanted to implement some sort of frilly to make his coat interesting. Not sure how I feel about it yet. I made his design the warmest, since he's associated fire! May not be clear, but the straps are for a dual sword holster in the back!

Lucius gently rubs his thumb along Izzy's cheek, as tender as Pete is when he massages oil into Izzy's joints. "I get it," he says, and reaches out his free hand to Pete, who takes it with a smile. "We all have our shit to deal with. We've all been fucked up in one way or another. Some damage will never go away. But when we hurt, we have each other to turn to. That's what a relationship is about. That's what love is about. Sticking through it all. Fighting not each other, but the world."

"Great speech, babe," Pete says, and Lucius flashes him the brightest, fondest of smiles.

Izzy breathes in the possibilities that are rising in this room, this faith that does not demand but asks, this relationship that throws love about like it is a gift and not a punishment.

Then Izzy leans in and presses a soft kiss to his sea god's mouth, giving Lucius Spriggs his offering.

And the sea god offers him a kiss of his own in return, tribute for tribute, faith for faith.

Saint Izzy and the sea god. I don't think I've ever had such visceral shrimp emotions to a metaphor before but there we have it- the way that the devotion, faith, and love Izzy has for Lucius mirrors and refracts the faith he once had in Blackbeard is going to be imprinted on my brain as THE way to execute an intimacy arc for a very long time. I've already screamed about it multiple times to my apartment. I am still not over the ending lines of this fic and I'm pretty sure I never will be. Simple as that.
