Ya know, life to a chihuahua must be fairly alarming

Theyre so small, can be on the fragile side

Most things are much bigger than they are and could hurt them pretty easily

I know coyotes in particular are a fairly big threat to them, which i can only imagine how a chihuahua feels when facing a coyote

Coyotes arent even that big but compared to chihuahuas

And then theres things like hawks or owls, which has gotta be even spookier

Like jus being out in the world knowing some large beast could swoop down and snatch you off

Happened to my 2nd grade teachers dog, it was in their yard and an owl grabbed it and carried it off

Fortunately, theres those dog vests, with spikes and sticks on them that help protect chihuahuas and other small dogs from this kinda thing

And i know not everyone is going to buy or use them, but hey, its nice that they exist

And now you might be wondering "What in the world does this have to do with Httyd?"

And the answer to that is very simply you see

Dragons, of course, are very large predators, they can easily swoop down and grab someone, and even the smaller dragons could likely scoop up a child

Now, as we all know, theres no dragons in our world

A tragedy, but nevertheless, a fact

And obviously httyd's world has dragons, its kinda in the name

Furthermore in our world, Vikings didn't wear horned helmets, it's just not the case, they didn't have them

But in httyd, they do

Did you know cats have whiskers on their feet it's right up near their topmost toe it helps them figure out where to pounce when hunting

Shrews are cool as FUCK so because they are so small they need to have a very high metabolism- small body = loses heat faster some of them are as small as almonds!!! they are incredibly powerful hunters and can hold a territory that can be up to over 600 yards!!!! they have to eat a LOT to keep up with their high metabolism so when they hunt they will kill something and leave it there if they manage to catch something else before they finish eating and only once they no longer have any prey to catch will they eat their stockpile, the bodies of their kills are usually stacked up together. Shrews also have super fast heart and breath rates they lose heat super fast and their heart can be up to 800 bpm and their breath up to 500/minute Shrews live in high altitude and climates so how are they keeping their body warm? they use the snow as an insulater! they'll burrow under the snow and use it as a way to keep the heat inside their tunnels. when a shrew is pregnant they will eat a lot more a 7lb shrew will eat 8lbs of food for example- and their milk can shift through lactation for nutrition (colostrum and weaning milk for example)

speaking of reproduction- just like bees male mouse opossums will die right after mating- as they reach their sexual maturity they will go into overdrive they won't eat and have a very high stress level males of this species very rarely survive more than a year

you might know that all animals (aside from primates/humans) have an extra layer in the back of their eye called the tapetum lucidum, this is what eye shine is ot helps soak in light when in the dark

speaking of vision teehee

only primates have trichromatic vision most mammals only have dichromatic vision where they lack the cone rods to see green/yellow colors

ok so hearing right? so most animals other than us have pinna which makes it so their ears can move towards sound but mammals also hear different frequencies like I'm sure you've heard about how cats talk to their kittens in a different way than older cats? humans do that too! when we use baby talk for pets or children but some animals speak out of our frequencies entirely for example mice will sing to each other to find mates!

OK more specific animal facts- beavers are SICK ok so their skulls look like this

see that giant open space behind their front teeth? they use that space to suck in their cheeks to create a blockage and make sure they don't get wood chips down their throat when chomping on trees for their dams

bats have little tiny bumps on their wings for wind turbulence

some fish have electroreception which is when you can sense electric currents by other organisms with like open channels on their cells but so can MOLES!!!

baby cheetas are born with extra fur and slightly different markings to look more like Hyena pups so that they are less likely to be attacked by them

speed round- farm edition (because I was an animal educator at a farm for years)

goats are immune to poison ivy and you can still drink their milk after

horses only breathe through their nose they can't breathe from their mouths

domestic sheep HAVE to be sheared every year as they will just continue to grow wool forever and ever until death

llamas are super clean animals a llama herd will designate one specific area for pooping they're also super good guard animals and are used to kill foxes going after chickens sometimes

emus can run 31mph (the one I worked with named Mu was also mean as hell but they can be super sweet)

bunnies sleep with their eyes open as they are prey animals they also will almost always poop as they are eating and must be eating or at least offered food nearly 24/7 or they will die similar to a shrew

goat horns are connected directly to their skulls and they LOVE when you scratch in-between them for them :)

most animals have a baculum (penis bone) except us and herbivores [that was an adult group fact not a children group fact]

I work in a vet clinic. I’m also an animal trainer. It’s physically painful for me to watch some of y’all with your pets.

Reminder that physically striking your animal as a means of of gaining compliance (no matter how gently) is ineffective and decreases trust between you and your animal.

turn the tables: imagine that a trainer did not speak your language. would you prefer to be trained to behave appropriately by positive reinforcement and encouragement, or scolding and being swatted at and having to guess what you did wrong? would you perhaps resent the person who was harsh towards you? even if you liked the affection and sustenance they gave you, would it erase your fear of being swatted or yelled at for stepping over arbitrary lines that you can’t see and don’t make sense to you?

build trust. be consistent and reliable. do not punish. do not correct with anger. be patient. expect mistakes and handle them gracefully. this works with both animals and humans.

#see a lot of ppl complaining abt brisbane i wish i'd taken some of the visitors round here to check out the cool native birds & pretty bugs #also the dog's only off leash bc she's very well trained and also never wanders more than 10m ahead of us and is scared of water anyway lol #plus she's never shown any interest in chasing birds or animals. her sister however remains firmly on lead KSKSDKDKD #anywayyyy non-european/north american climates and ecosystems are beautiful even tho u never see them on tv!!!#my photography #*#**

in my hc the noble houses of menzoberranzan operate similarly to the houses in ice and fire where they’re constantly feuding with each other but instead of trying to take the throne/control of the whole realm they’re all fighting for lolth’s favour instead. and because they can’t outright declare war on each other (forgot the reason for why they can’t exactly do that but iirc lolth doesn’t like it?? she loves the drama I guess) and if they rise too quickly lolth casts them down so they have to be cunning about it. not to mention if they stay too long in power and do nothing about it that also displeases the spider queen so the nobility’s game of intrigue is constantly moving and working both for self gain and for self preservation.

shri’iia also plays the game but more of a pawn than a player. she’s not born from any noble house (she’s actually a commoner). the only reason why she has any foot in the game is that she’s taken in by the matriarch of faen tlabbar - one of the houses who fervently worships lolth to the point of zealotry - when they’ve heard word that she—a commoner—have managed to succeed lolth’s trials and gained her blessing. lolth blessings are rare to come and making someone a paladin is even more rare so for a zealot house, that’s a a sign they can’t pass up. so, the house matriarch takes her in and keeps in a tower where she’s supposed to pray and train to lolth day and night. the paladin oath that shri’iia swears is both for lolth and her matriarch; she swears to punish the enemies of her mistresses and forever keep her loyalty to them. her matriarch’s word is an extension to lolth’s will, so to disobey her will be disobeying lolth herself.

and ofc shri’iia being born poor with everything to give and nothing to lose, who thought that there is more to her life than a merchant’s daughter, to be known by the goddess she worship and noticed by one of the most influential houses in the city, swears herself to that oath. she never regretted that choice not even when she’s kept in that tower in complete isolation with her matriarch being the only person she could interact with.

#shri’iia’s backstory to me is like og fairy tale of rapunzel but instead of the witch raising her to be a daughter #the witch raised her to be a very well trained guard dog instead #see I’m just thinking; in a setting where subterfuge is key and the truth is what people is made to believe instead of the actual #factual truth .. the fact that you have a person that no one knows about and is unquestioningly loyal to you that is like your biggest #asset. since she can do everything for you and leave without a trace and no one can link it back to you nor accuse you of being the one #responsible. like in ice and fire she’d be the equivalent of varys’ little birds but she’s only one person lol #anyway does shri’iia develop a toxic codependent relationship with her matriarch? ofc she does #shes trapped in that tower for 100+ years and that’s the only person #not to mention constant isolation can fuck up your mind so ofc she gets obsessed with her. and her matriarch KEEPS her obsessed esp in a #city where you’re not supposed to trust anyone .. her matriarch says that shri’iia is the only person she trusts so ofc she’ll feel special #and this is also why she feels so out of place and paranoid in act 1 events where she gets kidnapped and dropped off on the surface #bc not only that’s her first time being in the surface she also hasn’t gone outside nor interacted with anyone in a long time #and her choice of being compliant and following instead of asserting her own dominance and being a general menace as expected for lolth’s #followers is a survival tactic since she literally doesn’t know what to do or how to go home #and that’s the first choice she had made for herself in so fucking long and that’s what also leads her to her oath breaking #= which is being free from lolth’s dogma and her mistress essentially #anyway I have more thoughts abt this but I’m like … it makes sense.. TO ME ..!

LOV Daemon AU

(https://hisdarkmaterials.fandom.com/wiki/D%C3%A6mon is basically where I got all my info on daemon’s since I really like the concept but don’t know the material. Daemons in this AU can be seen by everyone and cannot be harmed by their human’s quirks. They can assume the forms of real animals, extinct or not, but cannot take fictional forms. Daemon’s can touch one another without their humans feeling any effects.)

Shigaraki’s daemon is unsettled, due to his childhood trauma resulting in her feeling the need to always be ready to defend him and being stuck as one animal won’t do. She usually takes the form of a cougar on missions to keep the heroes in the dark about her instability and get the jump on them. She is noted to be a very confident and aggressive daemon, though she does not show her aggression to Shigaraki’s friends allies, and is more level headed and calm at times compared to Shigaraki, though just as blunt. She is unusual in that she’s fine with being touched by others (due to AFO constant handling of her), and can be separated from Shigaraki without either feeling ill effects, though she will be anxious to return to him. Her name was changed to Mizuho (瑞輔), the name Aiko as dead to the world as Tenko is.

Mr. Compress’ daemon is a sable mask ferret who is usually found sleeping in his coat pockets with his marbles, though she will drape herself over his shoulders when awake. She is as smart and humorous as her human, often chatting the ears off any poor daemon near her and always willing to show off the tricks she’s learned over the years as a performer. She is more outwardly vicious than Mr. Compress, reveling in the destruction they caused at the training camp and mauling Overhual’s restrained daemon when they took his arms. She is called Kaitou (怪盗) though her real name is Isako (以佐子).

Toga’s daemon is settled as a loggerhead strike, a cute and round little bird who’s methods of killing involve skewering their prey on barbed wire and earning themselves the nickname “butcher bird”. He’s a rare case of a daemon being able to use their human’s quirk, as whenever Toga transform he also takes the form of that persons’ daemon. Like Toga, he is full of life, often chattering from his perch atop her head between her buns about their crushes, and acts as a hype man to Toga’s usual mania. When they went on the run, Toga decided her daemon needed a cuter name, so she changed it to Nekketsu (熱血); he was very enthusiastic about this change.

Twice’s daemon in a unique situation, in that she was settled as a gray-and-white AmStaff Terrier until The Incident after which she became unsettled, switching between the AmStaff Terrier and an orange-and-white Brittany Spaniel; she primarily stays as the terrier. She is just as playful and energetic as Twice, always trying to get the other daemon’s in the league to play fight with her. She takes great care of Twice, acting like a therapy dog at times to help ground him, and bites anyone who takes issue with that. She actively worries for the safety of the other daemon’s on the team, which earns her teasing remarks from them, and cares deeply for all of her teammates. Her given name is a mystery because the League is sure Twice’s parents daemon’s didn’t name her Double Trouble (Dee for short), but Twice can’t remember what it was and she’s not spilling.

Spinner’s daemon is a 10 inch long Madagascar Day Gecko who often hides inside his scarf and occasionally will sit on his hair. She’s very shy and reserved, to the point that no one had actually seen her until the Kamino Ward incident. While she does not like to be separated from Spinner, she also can go great distances before they feel any discomfort; this combined with her quick nature and small body makes her perfect for reconnaissance, and it makes her happy that she’s of use to the League. Once she came out of her shell, she is shown to be very content and mild mannered. Her real name is Akemi (明美) but she goes by Twister now.

Dabi’s daemon is a meerkat of average size and color, often lounging across Dabi’s shoulders or being carried by him. She’s very quiet and aloof, preferring to sit a little ways off from the others but she doesn’t mind interacting with any of them. As if to contradict herself, she often cuddles up to Dabi or another daemon when sleeping. She does have her moments of bloodthirst and mania, especially when fighting, but her default setting is calm. (Dabi hated the form she had settled on for a while, not realizing that meerkat’s are far more vicious than their cute appearance leads others to believe.) She goes by Homura (炎) now but her name was Hinata (日向).

Kurogiri does not have a daemon and states that he does not recall ever having one to begin with. The many forms Mizuho takes and her easy affection with him often gets her mistaken for his daemon by other humans.

the best way i can describe my psychosis is like, interacting with the subject feels like being electrocuted by lightning and its extremely painful. i went from cuddling my parents dogs and being the only person willing to take care of and walk our chihuahua to needing my partner to stand between me and any dog that was in our apartment complex. and its not so much specifically because the dogs going to DO anything but its there and its a product of human evolution but unlike cats it doesn't view us as one of the dogs it sees us as something else we completely replicated our relationship with god in this animal that was not made for us and now people just keep them in crates in tiny little apartments upstairs and scream at them when they use their voice and only find value in them when they're using buttons on tiktok or when theres a silly funny dog that goes SUPER CRAZY over a lazer pointer and uaugh. and then i get just constant visuals of just awful gory shit and i cant touch them or i feel sick and then the owners liek lawl theyre friendly and im like okay? and theyre like ..... and im like (going to fucking kill myself once i get out of this elevator)

#and luckily it doesnt happen anymore but there used to be multiple big dogs that lived in our old apartment complex that the owners would #just let walk around leash free except they werent trained at all so theyd run over and jump on me and itd literally feel like i was being #fucking electrocuted.#i dont fucking know i dont know. i dont know we need a fucking psa about dogs.#and birds and children like fuck holy fucking fuck just dont have them if you dont know what youre doing and arent prepared
