Just so other Americans know, service dogs do *not* need to be wearing gear that says "service animal", nor do they need papers, nor training from any specific entity.

All they need is training to do at least *one* task that serves to aid an individual with their disability. That's it. This training can come from anyone, anywhere, you can even train them yourself, that right is specifically noted by the ADA.

They must be well behaved and 100% under control, and potty trained. If they are at all disruptive to others in either regard, they can be asked to leave, and you must comply, though you can come back without the animal. A fear of dogs or allergy to dogs is not a valid reason for someone to turn you away. Patrons must be accommodated, both those with the dogs, and those with the related issues. You may not be isolated or otherwise treated differently from other patrons.

People working can ask only two questions to confirm that the dog is a service animal:

(1) is the dog a service animal required because of a disability, and

(2) what work or task has the dog been trained to perform.

That's it. If you refuse to answer, you will be asked to leave, and you must comply. These two questions are the only questions that you *must* answer, any others are not allowed: they cannot ask about the person’s disability, require medical documentation, require a special identification card or training documentation for the dog, or ask that the dog demonstrate its ability to perform the work or task.

You will still be charged for any damages caused by the animal.

Hope that clears up the many misunderstandings I see. I have a service dog, and I'm happy to answer any other questions anybody might have about how this whole thing works.

hey yall :D since it's disability pride month and i am a Local Disabled TM i wanted to spotlight the d&d 5e homebrew i've done featuring disability mechanics!! they're all FREE / PWYW and available on itch!!

autism & adhd mechanics

traits for mechanically emphasizing a character's autism and/or adhd!! there's 11 traits total, with 5 shared between them, and 3 each that are specific to autism and adhd. the traits are beneficial, detrimental, and a mix of both, intended for 1-3 to be chosen for a single character. includes traits like sensory processing disorder, time blindness, and rejection sensitive dysphoria

service monsters

service animals - monster edition! you choose a customizable base for your monster, a statblock, and origin, and then get to choose your service type: guiding, hearing, mobility, medical alert, trauma, schizophrenia, or autism! each service type has a unique monster with different abilities, strengths, and magic. service monsters can't be used in combat but they have resistance to all damage and go to a pocket dimension upon dropping to 0hp

trauma mechanics

10 traits for panic disorder, ptsd, and cptsd, with an included definitions section and suggestions for trait application. includes mechanics for triggers, as well as for traits like panic attacks, insomnia, hypervigilance, and trust issues. the traits include different outcomes for meeting the dc or failing by different margins, and the aftereffects of failing a save, as well as ways that allies can help

my inspiration for making these was that i'm an autistic, mentally ill, traumatized disabled person who's been an active and leading disability advocate for the last 9 years and a disability-specialist social worker for 2.5 of those. definitely still room for improvement with my homebrew but i think there always will be when trying to put the incredibly varied human experience of disability into a crunchy numbers&rules format :o)

A long time ago I sketched an idea I had of how pokemon could act as service animals. I came across that sketch recently and wanted to revisit it, so here is a seeing eye espeon using its psychic abilities to show its trainer the surrounding area. I used to have a service dog so it means a lot to me to have some representation of service animals in pokemon, and Detective Pikachu did disabilities a disservice.

Mattel has been putting in additional effort over the past few years to introduce and expand diversity in the Barbie line, particularly with the Fashionistas. I have made a few posts before about the representation of disability within the Barbie line over the years, starting with Share a Smile Becky, the first Barbie line toy to be depicted using a wheelchair, and expanding into a greater toy line of Barbies using wheelchairs, prosthetics, hearing aids as well as dolls depicted with Down syndrome, scoliosis and alopecia.

This year the fashionista line has also expanded with the first Barbie to have a service dog. This Barbie is depicted as being a wheelchair user as well as being supported by a service dog.

My attention has been drawn in particular to the fact that her wheelchair has manual brakes she can use - "to let kids control the storytelling action", but I appreciate this commitment to design!

She is officially listed as "coming soon" at the time of writing so I don't know when she will hit shelves but I think she's a really cool addition to the lineup!

Has SK Sun ever caught kids who tried to sneak their pets into the library? What about less conventional pets like birds, snakes, and tarantulas? Also, does the library allow emotional support and service animals? Does SK Moon run into this problem at the amusement park as well?

Sun only allows emotional support and service animals into the library. He understands some humans need them, yet he also keeps in mind any allergies some visitors may have.

Moon allows ESAs and service animals into the amusement park, they just can't go on most of the rides with their handlers.

this whole karen thing is going to prevent women and girls from speaking up and defending themselves. its a tool that can be used to silence us.

just now i was out with my puppy (and soon to be service dog) and a few meters away from us was standing a guy, filming me and my pet. i am used to people doing this and any service animal owner or maybe even just a regular pet owner can tell you that its common to get photographed or filmed without our consent. yea it sucks. i was playing fetch with my puppy and the guy with the phone did not try to hide the fact that he was filming at all. he was doing it shamelessly. it was so intimidating because apparently he was sure enough of himself to do this. i am very bad at confrontation and i hate myself for not speaking up but i was scared id come off as a “karen” and hed upload the video somewhere and then the whole internet will do what it does to “karens”. i tried hiding my puppy so he wont get his content but he still filmed a lot i think. and now this made me realise that this is probably happening to a lot of women already. it makes me angry.

I recently introduced the idea that Mario and Luigi both get service animals to help with their respective problems (Luigi's Thunderhand causes seizures when he's either really stressed or if he just overuses it, and Mario struggles with anxiety and panic attacks), so I decided to draw our good boy/girl respectively.
