Wow it’s been a minute since I’ve been on tumblr. Almost a year I think? Maybe less/more. I forget. Lots has changed and I’m not sure anyone actually followed me before anyways, but here’s an update for anyone who might have.
I graduated in December with my BS in Bioengineering (concentration in bioinformatics). The year prior I got to work on a super sweet senior design project which went well and overall ended my college career with a bang. Since then I have been having trouble finding a job in my area, so I expanded my search to all around the country and I think I’m positioned to have 4 (?) job offers which will be wonderful coming from a point where I couldn’t even get the first interview. Most of these jobs are bioinformatics/bioinformatician related jobs but a few jobs relate to data totally out of the biology sphere. A company (non-biology) is flying me out to their site next week and that job is probably my #1 and I’m so excited - I’ve never been flown out anywhere *ever*. It’ll be wild to move wherever I go because I’ve only ever been… here. But I’m excited.
As it relates to studyblr, I guess I’m no longer a part of the club (not like I’ve been active anyways LMAO). For now at least. I do plan to go back to school as soon as I can to get a masters in CS but that’s still a bit away. Overall I’m in a such better place after being off social media for so long and also just gearing up to actually start my life. I’ll by no means be posting consistently on here going forward, at least for now, but I just remembered I still had this tumblr and wanted to see what had changed which thank god isn’t too much.
I hope everyone in this community has been well - whether that’s with school or finding a job or just in general with life. Thanks for those that still follow an inactive blog like mine - it’s cool coming back and seeing new notes on old posts of mine.
Thesis has been uploaded last week, and I took about a week of very low school activity to recover from the extremely difficult days (went way too far, don´t recommend, will try not to do again). I cycled back to uni town from home, held a ´sunday afternoon´ on monday (it means drinking tea and reading a book under a blanket), and we cooked really nice with the housemates (I had asked in the friend group what kind of mashed potatoes were the best, and one friend said with broccoli and onions, so we made that with some nice sausages and gravy), and we also made tiramisu, half with boudoirs, and half with speculaas, which I´d never eaten but was really good!
Today I had my mock defense for thesis and it went really well, so not stressing too much about that now!
I am stressing about my course on neural networks and deep learning bc i´m really bad at the matlab exercises, but hey, we´ll see, it's only for the day after my thesis defense which is next tuesday 🙃 I´ll have to work hard the next few days but then I get some downtime again for my final exam of my masters!
I finally have some free time to take some pictures and post them! I can't believe how busy I've been this semester... I took these right after my Biomaterials exam and that's why the calculator is out, I think it makes a nice touch though.
I'm back. Today marks the first day of my last academic year as an undergraduate student. I had a 3 hour long lecture in the morning which didn't really end well. I have been sick for the past 1 week and don't do well in cold spots as it aggravates my cough. So the 3 hour lecture felt more like torture to me. But hey, warm water helps a lot and it made me feel better.
I had my first lab session for my final year project today as well. It was really fun. I am looking forward to tomorrow as I have yet another lab session to check on my cell cultures. Hoping that the cells grow well!
Hi y'all, another life update! I didn't get into med school this year (got waitlisted tho, so that means I'm doing something right at least!). But I'm excited to announce that I'm going to be attending UCSD for my Master's of Science in Bioengineering with Medical Specialization. Kinda a mouthful but it's such a cool program, geared towards engineering students aiming for a career in healthcare (hello :P). I'm also already applying for the 2021-2022 med school application cycle, so fingers crossed this time around. 🤞
Busy reading papers today. Some of this is refresher for me since I seemingly forgot about QTL and LD from class (oops), but majority is completely new to me. I’m at that stage in learning where it’s obvious to me how little I know, which hopefully means a tiny breakthrough is on the horizon 💡 Gonna finish up data visualization for lab tonight after work - wish me luck!
About 3 days until my master thesis deadline, so I´m working super hard to add the last important things and clean up the details. Had some positive feedback from the prof, and my coach said the prof was very happy with my work so I´m not worried about not passing but it´s just not finished yet.
One of my housemates has a computer screen so when he´s not home or he´s already gone to bed I can use it, which I´ve been doing and it is so nice! Will definitely buy one myself for next year!
Also went home last weekend to see my grandparents and one of the neighbourhood cats visited us so that was nice ^^
Is there anything better than campus cats to motivate you on finals week? Hope all of you guys do finish your semesters being satisfied with your performance.
College is hard but the cats are cute, I try to balance it out
20 October 2020 | Will I be able to conserve this momentum through the end of my assignments tonight? Will my arithmetic errors be as negligible as gravity seems to be in all these problems? I guess we’ll find out.
