Helloo! ok this has nothing to do with the aks game but since you happen to be one of my favourites for Sirius hcs I have to ask you. I can't recall Sirius and Harry ever hugging in the books, though they're really close. What do you think about it? Is it just because Harry isn't so much into physical touch anyway, bc I doubt that Sirius knew. I only remember Molly and Hermine once hugged him to comfort him. But if I am correct Harry not even hugs Sirius when they have to say goodbye or they haven't seen each other for a long while although Harry misses him so much. It only happens in the movies. What do you think says that about their relationship and their characters? What could be the reason and so on?

Hello, dear!!! That was a very interesting question, and I now spent my time rereading the Sirius and Harry moments throughout the books (and having a few very emotional moments because of it).

Hugging, and generally bodily contact is something dealt out rarely in the books, and like you said Mrs Weasley and Hermione are most likely to do so. Both hug Harry on a pretty regular basis, both for comfort and just in greeting and saying goodbye.

My reply is going to be a bit longer, and I haven't looked up everything so, many things are just from my memory, just a fair warning.

Alright, so.

The men in Harry Potter don't typically share a lot of positive physicality. They shake hands, they punch each other, and then theres the Quidditch celebrations, in which everyone hugs and cries. All very acceptable and heterosexual ways for men to share physicality, especially in the 90s, I'd say.

Other moments when people, men in particular, become physical, Harry considers those oversteps, and usually feed into his dislike of them - Rita, Lockhart, Slughorn and Barty Jr (still looking like Moody) come to mind for this. And these moments stand out, because Harry doesn't often touch people, and doesn't often has people touch him, much less people he doesn't know.

Sirius is an outlier. As he ought to be, and always is.

Sirius is first introduced to us, in the Shack, with an extraordinary amount of physicality. He of course mauls Ron - but it doesn't stop there. Harry attacks him with his hands, punching and strangling him, while thinking how much he wants to cause him harm with his hands. This is followed by Crookshanks, who uses Sirius' chest as a couch in his attempt to shield him, and then Remus, who pulls Sirius into a hug. This right there is more physicality than we see ever again between such a small group of people and animals.

Srius also holds onto Harry the entire time that Harry tells Dumbledore about the happenings of the Graveyard, and even when Harry describes the grip as painful, he never expresses discomfort with it. He pats Padfoot as well. They share physicality for comfort at least sometimes. And generally more often than Harry does with anyone else.

Still, their meetings and partings are often very tumultuous - first in the shack, then they barely have time to say goodbye because Sirius has to flee and Harry and Hermione have to get back to the hospital wing. Then, they meet while Sirius is a dog in Hogsmeade, and part when Harry is in the hospital wing. Sirius gets sent into war, basically right there, where all the Weasleys, Snape and Dumbledore surround them. When they meet again in GP12, Sirius is coming from a meeting and quiets his mothers portrait. Also not ideal. What I find interesting here, is that Harry is highly disappointed about this welcome. He had hoped for more, for warmth, had even expected it. So when Sirius is stressed out and depressed, it confuses and disappoints Harry.

I actually think that Sirius realises that in a second, because thereafter he doesn't hold back - where he can. Which is obviously not much because he is in yet another depression prison from hell.

But there are two moments in which they actually do hug. One time at Kings Cross - Padfoot gets on his hindlegs to put his forepaws on Harry's shoulders; and then at the end of the Christmas holidays - in what is described as a quick side-hug.

So that is a small compilations of all the moments of hugs and physicality between them I could find, which might be more than you remember, possibly because they're far more touchy in the movies, but in general I do think they have a pretty positive and touch forward relationship, in comparison to what Harry has with other people...

So, I think there's my answer. I hope this makes sense? <3

I thought the premise of liking Snape as a character was being able to look at these characters as both good and bad, you know, nuance. Do I think Snape was backed into a blood purist hate group bc he monetarily had no way out? absolutely.

do I think it was necessary to be viscous to children under his care, but spare his own house? no, it's terrible

is it key to point out that he never placed children in harm's way until he was headmaster at Hogwarts when Voldmart? yes, because in the books it seems there is at least some effort of guiding the torturers efforts away, and absolutely, it's super shitty, but can we also point out that the characters I used to idolize, Remus Lupin and Sirius Black, put children in harm's way. Starting with Snape at the Shrieking Shack. Moody not taking his potions till the last minute, and also not telling Dumbledore about the ways that Sirius Black could get in the castle, or that he is an animagus, or Sirius's recklessness after Azkaban (is it explainable? sure. does it justify what happened? no.)

jesus, even the last thing Sirius says to Harry is in thinking that he's James. Sure that delighted Harry for all of two seconds before he died, but an adult Harry, who is able to look back at the trauma of the war, and is able to realize the possibility that his godfather, this person who represents closeness with his parents, saw him as nothing more than his dad, and how devastating that possibility would be.

Anyway... Snape. I don't understand why some people who are Snape fans seem to be under the assumption that Lily being awful to Snape is the only

I've seen the argument made that Lily is "using" Severus because he's magical. Right. So not a common interest? No, and definitely not that Lily's a little girl discovering things about herself deemed scary by the person she's closest to (Petunia) and here comes this kid to say, "hey, me too." But you're right that's a terrible way to start of a friendship of 11 year olds.

And then she snaps at Petunia, is cruel to her. After her sister uses her jealousy as a weapon to her, Lily snaps back, and promptly blames Severus for it. The thing is, when people look at this, apparently they don't notice that Petunia holds no weight in Severus's eyes. What exactly is she going to do to him? Lily on the other hand, is bullied when she has to go home to her and is rejected by a sister she still loves.

It's funny, in the rush to defame Lily I feel like we forget that she hates James. Like, really, really hates (even Sirius and Remus later talk about that), and in no small part because of the bullying him and Sirius inflict upon Snape.

The quote people use, where Lily is at the ends of her wits with her best friend, and she feels betrayed by someone she's close to (but??? he doesnt have a choice??? Lily is classist!!! Dude, she's a teenager. If we are encouraged to ignore Draco Malfoy's classist behavior and despise Lily's... yeah, dude, double standard.) who is joining a group where the perogituve is "my blood is purer than yours, therefore I get to live and you don't." But yeah, Lily is the blind one for not understanding how traumatic bullying is the same is saying "I want you and all your friends dead."

And yes, Lily is not the best listener in this situation. Did she not believe that something terrible happened to Severus at the Willow? Yes. They were under oath not to tell her?? Or at least made a promise to Dumbledore?? So Lily is supposed to question Dumbledore now??

And then like Severus is being horribly bullied, Lily is just standing there screaming at James, goes over to help Snape, he calls her That Slur™️ and she retorts with something she knows will hurt, classism, which is not justifiable. (Is a slur justifiable either? haha, no)

So yeah, in 2 areas Lily is cruel to people she loves.

And then she cuts things off with Snape. And yeah, he pulls the romantic comedy stunts of sleeping outside the Common Room, but she's given him a lot of time to explain why he's so involved with Death Eaters (do I blame him for this? no. Again, teenagers.)

And now she's done.

Sometimes, when you give people chances to change, and they don't explain to you why they're not changing, you get to (surprise surprise) leave the friendship.

If Lily had lived, would we see her continue assholery that is so often prevalent in her generation? No idea. The point of the entire series is that she does young. Do we ever get to see her as a fully fleshed out character? Uh, no, because we only get glimpses from people who loved her. And like, Petunia, once, which was weird.

tldr; pointing at minor yet pivotal characters and "hot taking them" so that they are only bad and kind of abusive, takes away from everyone's story.

Maybe a fic where after Sirius’ ankle is broken initially ( like the first couple of hours after) they think he won’t be able to play again because the doctors thought it was worse than it was and the team are told to prepare for the worst and we get to see their reactions :(

Okay, I don't know if this is what you wanted. But I hope you like it anyway! Sorry I took longer than last time. I haven't forgotten about any prompts, I just had a bit of a block.

The lights were too bright. But Sirius tired to open his eyes anyway. James was sitting next to him. How the hell had he gotten into his house?! Then memories came back, cracking of bones, emergency sirens, a stadium erupting in booing noises.

He was in the hospital. His foot hurt a lot less than he expected, but it was also in a splint at the moment.

As soon as James noticed, that Sirius was awake -or at least had his eyes semi open- he hugged him rather aggressively.

"Mate, idiot, I thought you were dying!", James voice was muffled by the pillows.

"I did tell him, that you would 100% survive, though.", Remus interrupted Sirius thought process.

Not really being able to say anything yet, he just took in the scene he was presented with.

The cubs, off to the far left of his room, had probably just stopped playing a game with Olli. The cards were all over the table and Sirius couldnt even try to guess what they had been playing. But they were all facing him now.

Next to them Kasey sat a bit further away, but clearly in a position were he could look into Logans and Finns cards and observe the game.

In the middle of the room stood Kuny, Nado, Dumo, Thomas and pretty much their whole team. They barely fit into the room.

To the left stood Arthur and Moody, both relieved at him being awake. They had probably been discussing something about the season.

Right on his bed sat James. Still hugging him. Sirius wouldn't put it past him, to just stay like that for the next few days. Lily was sitting next to his bed on the right, reading her magazine. She was clearly not surprised about James' behaviour.

And then there was Remus. Probably sitting the closest to him after, off course James. Right to his left. There was no magazine or playing cards or even his smartphone anywhere close to him. He might have just arrived. Although he did look a bit too tired for that. Remus looked relieved, but also somehow pained. Sirius didnt know if it was, because of his ankle or because of something else.

His thoughts were interrupted by James, again. "Sirius, are you with us?"

Now the whole room was staring at him.

"Ouais, je suis réveillé.", it came out as a raspy sound. "Can I-", he coughed. "Can I have some water, please?"

James got his water not even a split second after, from his bedside table. He almost spilt the contents over the hospital sheets.

After he drank the entire cup in one go, he put it back next to his bed. He only realised now that there were flowers and chocolate there.

Chocolate- how ironic. No one in a hockey team would ever gift another hockey player chocolate. It wasnt on their meal plan. How long would he be gone, if he was allowed to eat chocolate?! He would be able to play again, right? Panic went through his entire body.

That moment a doctor came in. Everybody looked at her expectantly.

"Mr. Black", she started, "you broke your ankle, and you were in surgery, a few hours ago. I'm glad to see you have already woken up. That's a good sign. I have to inform you however that there were complications with the surgery, so you'll probably not be allowed to leave for at least the next week. Also-"

"I'm sorry, doctor, but that wont be possible.", Sirius interrupted her. "We have a very important game this weekend, and not only do I need to play, but I need to practice. I can stay no longer than today."

I would have been funny, that Sirius Black tried to debate with a Doctor about his body's state, but in this situation the doctors expression seemed to morph into a sad one.

"I wasnt suggesting it, Mr. Black. You will stay here, for at least a week. After that, we'll check on your state and if we decide to let you go home, you'll have to rest for at least 10 weeks to let the bone fully heal"

"But-", Sirius tried to say, but was cut of by the doctor again.

It was like a child complaining about not being allowed to have a certain toy.

"Once your bone has fully healed, you'll need to learn how to properly walk on it again."

"And afterwards I can start practice again?", Sirius sounded like he at least tried to accept his fate. He wouldn't be able to play the whole season.

"I dont think that will be what's happening. I'm sorry to inform you, but at the moment, it doesn't look like your ankle would handle the pressure of being on the ice in a professional state again."

"Does that mean he can never play again?", James asked, his voice sounded a bit shot.

It was only then that Sirius realised again, that he wasnt alone in the room.

"As it is now, no. I'm sorry. It could potentially change, but it is highly unlikely", the doctor told them. Even she didnt seem as neutral now as when she appeared. But then again, all of gryffindor loved their lions. She was probably almost as devastated as any other person in gryffindor.

"Thank you", was the only thing Sirius could choke out. This was all to much information at once.

As the doctor wanted to leave, James got up.

"Cant you bloody do something?! Anything? Please? We need him. Anything?"

The doctor just repeated herself. "I'm sorry, but as of now, the only thing we can do is wait how Sirius body reacts to the injury." With that she left the room, Arthur and Moody following her.

James sat down again. And hugged Sirius tightly and awkwardly, because he was still lying on the hospital bed. "Please tell me if you need anything, Pads.", he whispered.

The rest of the room hadnt said a word until now. Sirius was thankful for it. But they were all staring at him. Waiting for some kind of reaction.

"Guys, I'm fine.", Sirius lied. "How did the snakes game end? I want every detail."

He didnt listen. But he was pretty sure someone explained.

So many emotions were running through his mind.

He was furious. At Snape for hitting him. At the world for making it happen to him. At the doctors for not doing more. At himself for blaming everything else except himself.

He was sad. This was it. His career was over. He would maybe sit on the bench during games, if the team would even let him. He probably wasnt even part of the team anymore. He would be able to come to the first few games. And then fewer and fewer. Until the crowd had forgotten him. Until the team had forgotten him. Until he was just an ex-hockey player, sat in this massive house, alone and unwanted, all over again.

"Sirius.", a gentle voice pulled him out of his thoughts. "Sirius, are you listening?" It was Remus', his hand now on Sirius' arm. As he looked down Loops pulled it away.

"Yeah, no, a bit, sorry." Sirius replied, " I was a bit lost in thought." As the rest of the team almost gave him a another sad look, he added "Just thinking about your new training plans and how exhausted you will all be. Next time you need to show the damn snakes not to mess with lions." This was one of the first times he wished, he could be exhausted with them.

The team didn't laugh. Logan moved his chair closer to Sirius bed.

"Next time we'll win. For you."

"Wow, if I would have known it just needed at hit, to get you more ambitious, I would have been down months ago.", Sirius joked. It wasnt funny. He didn't even laugh himself, although he tried. It came out as a short, bitter one.

The team was staring at him again. It was horrible. He didnt want their pity. He wanted to get back on the ice, now. But he couldn't. He would never be able to skate again. In his life. It was over. Everything was over.

Harry Potter character personal headcanons – Marauders era

James

Race: Some kind of Asian. Common headcanon is that he’s Indian, so let’s go with that. Sexuality: Straight, and very surprised to find out that none of the other Marauders are Ship(s): Lily. If I should ship him with someone else, it would probably be an OC. In an AU where he was into guys, I could see him with Sirius, too. Nope ship(s): Haven’t really seen him paired up with anyone but Lily, tbh... but any ship with a large age gap. I’m not very fond of James/Snape either. Platonic ship(s): The Marauders. I like to think he was close to Frank, Alice, Kingsley, Moody, Marlene McKinnon, Mary MacDougal etc. too. Disability/ies: From what we see of him, he could have ADHD. Idk tho.

Lily

Race: Isn’t she explicitly described as “pale and rosecheeked” or something like that? Yeah, pretty sure she’s white (also, Petunia is blonde and blue-eyed, so yeah) Sexuality: Demiromantic bisexual. She can easily find people attractive, but she doesn’t develop romantic feelings before a few years at least Ship(s): James. In an AU where he stayed a spoiled brat and she wouldn’t want to date him, I could see her with either Remus or one of her female friends. Nope ship(s): Believe it or not, I have seen people ship her with Slughorn (!) I really don’t ship Snily. It wouldn’t be good for any of them. I don’t think I have to explain why, as we see that even their friendship wasn’t completely healthy. Platonic ship(s): I think she was close to the other Marauders, as well as her female friends (and of course Kingsley, Moody etc.) In an AU where Snape didn’t hang out with people who wanted Lily dead, I think they could have had a beautiful friendship. But well... Disability/ies: None that I can think of...

Sirius

Race: Mixed. I think he has some white, and some Asian (perhaps Filipino or Sri Lankan) and maybe some Hispanic, too. Idk. Sexuality: Asexual homoromantic. Ship(s): Remus. In an AU where they both survive, ofc. And perhaps they dated a little in their Hogwarts years, before all that war stuff distracted them. Idk. In an AU where James was into guys, I could see them dating, too. Another ship I’d love to explore is Sirius/Kingsley. (Kingsley is into guys, right? Let’s say he is.) I think it’d be fun to have the slightly immature rebellious guy and the ambitious, serious guy... just... date each other. Yeah. A crack ship I could sort of see is Sirius/Lucius. I mean... wouldn’t it be hilarious? Nope ship(s): I have, of course, seen him paired up with most of the Lightning Generation (yes, including Draco and Neville. Yikes) and that’s just... too big of an age gap, especially since most of them were minors when he died. I’ve also seen him paired up with Regulus and all of the Black Sisters, which is just... plain wrong! I don’t like Sirius/Snape that much either. Platonic ship(s): All of da Marauders (if he isn’t dating any of them, that is). And of course Lily and the rest of the friend group. Disability/ies: Isn’t it pretty obvious that he has depression and probably PTSD after Azkaban? He didn’t really seem all that normal in his youth either – werewolf prank, anyone? But considering the parents he grew up with, it doesn’t surprise me that he would be a bit fucked up, even if he didn’t realise it.

Remus

Race: White Sexuality: Either bi or pan. You know what, I think he’s pan. And he’s also a trans boy. He realised he was a dude a while after he was bitten, and that’s why he chose that name. Ship(s): I do like him with Tonks. But I also kinda ship him with Sirius. I could also see him with Lily, if she didn’t date James. Nope ship(s): Any ship with a large age difference, tbh. (Tonks is on thin fucking ice, but the fact that she was was into her twenties when they started dating, and that their relationship arc is so freaking cute, makes the ice a bit thicker) Oh, and especially Greyback! Why do some people ship this? Platonic ship(s): Marauders! (if he doesn’t date Sirius, then they’re brotp) And the rest of the friend group, like I described above Disability/ies: He seems to have some sort of social anxiety? And definitely depression. He needed to take some meds!

Peter

Race: White Sexuality: Gay mess. Probably had a big crush on James and Sirius during their school time. (i have a crack headcanon that he switched side because he thought young!TomRiddle was hotter than his friends) Ship(s): Idk... can’t really see him with anyone, tbh. Perhaps an oc? Someone who could boost his morality and confidence. Kinda like Ginny, but male and from his generation. Nope ship(s): Anything pædo. Don’t really ship him with death eaters, either. Platonic ship(s): The Marauders and Lily, Kingsley etc. before he betrayed them. But well... Disability/ies: Perhaps some kind of anxiety?

Snape

Race: He reads as a mixed dude to me. Probably some white, perhaps also some Asian. Maybe he has descendants from multiple Asian countries? I like the idea of him having some Korean and Middle Eastern. Yeah. Sexuality: It’s common to headcanon him as ace. I don’t see why he couldn’t be, so let’s just say he is. I don’t think he’s into guys, so heteroromantic? I’ve also seen people headcanon him as Not Cis. But whether he’s a trans boy, non-binary, intersex, or something completely different? Idk. I do like the idea of him being intersex and non-binary, but alright with he/him pronouns (whether that would make him a non-binary and/or he/him lesbian... i won’t go into that, since i’m not lesbian myself) Ship(s): If I should pick a canon character, I’d pick Narcissa. That unbreakable vow chapter made me realise how cute they’d be together, and after a reread/rewatch, you realise that they were both primarily driven (and arguably redeemed) by love. If not, then probably an oc of some kind. Nope ship(s): So many... but first: any pædo ship. It’s common to ship him with Harry and Hermione, both of which are very wrong (especially the Snarry ship, but since the Snamione ship has sexist undertones...) And Dumbledore and Voldemort (I’ve seen fanart for both... I wish I hadn’t) But also Lily (for aforementioned reasons) and James and Sirius. Platonic ship(s): Lily, if he could stop that racism before it was too late. And I like the idea of him and Luna sort of befriending each other, as long as he stops being mean to Neville (bc she wouldn’t tolerate that bullshit) Disability/ies: Um, depression? Definitely. He does seem to have some Autistic traits, too. His intovercy/introvertiness/whatever and his deep interest in stuff. Also how he can sometimes act slightly... clingy towards Lily (I’m autistic, and I tend to be pretty clingy in periods where I only have one friend)

the brutally honest ship opinions game

Arthur/Moody: ……okay, like, I have basically no positive feelings about Alastor Moody — I mean, I feel the same need to defend him from JKR’s ableist garbage that accidentally got me in too deep with Lockhart, but we are still talking about a guy who supports using Dementors on people and apparently dngaf about what someone’s done, just send ‘em all to fucking Azkaban (GOF ch. 30, the flashback of Moody we see in the first Pensieve scene)

who thinks that the best present you could give to a kid who’s lost his parents and just watched a classmate be murdered…… is going over a photo of the First War Order and telling him about how all of them died horribly and he doesn’t ever stop to think that this might not be the best idea (OOTP)

and who is legitimately less sensitive to other people’s needs and less dismissive of people who aren’t his exact model of “useful” than a literal fucking Death Eater one of the biggest points where Barty Crouch Jr. drops character in GOF is when he takes Neville to his office and gives him a pro-Herbology pep-talk, and goes, “so, hey, Longbottom, Professor Sprout said you’re super-good at this subject, why not pursue it,” because based on the actual canon about him? The real Alastor Moody would never do something like that.

Like, he might have the moment he has with Harry and Hermione, where he goes, “so, hey, both of you could be gr10 aurors if you wanted, you should think about it” because that, from Moody, would be a compliment, and Harry and Hermione more closely fit his own ideas of usefulness, but not so much the Neville moment)

—but seriously, do you hate him or something? Why else would you even dream of shipping him with Arthur Weasley? (okay, fine, I acquiesce that there is enough of a canonical basis for some people to roll with here, and I myself have made ships out of far less…… but seriously, why would you ship anybody with Arthur Weasley. Like…… wow, rude.)

Lucius/Moody: again, I’m not on the Alastor Moody fan-train or anything, but why would you even do this. Nobody deserves to be shipped with Lucius Malfoy, like? He’s not even an entertaining villain, he’s just pathetic. He’s a sad, pathetic fantasy-fascist who gets his kicks by bullying twelve-year-olds and torturing muggles who can’t defend themselves. He’s a complete waste of character space and forcing anyone to be in a ship with him is just unfathomably cruel

Lupin/Snape: meh, whatever. Like, it’s not my thing, but… *shrugs* meh?

Like, idk what you’re looking for here, nonny, but I’m guessing, based on the other two ships, that you’re looking for me to get cranky and ship-bashy and figured that Snu//pin was a good way to get there, since there are a lot of legitimate Problems with this ship in the text

But the thing is, I’m just under 900 years old (at least in fandom terms), and I remember the days back before HBP came out, when Snu//pin was the second-most popular Remus ship (after Wolfstar, to the surprise of no one), and was, in fact, so popular that it had its own private archive and got black-listed from most rarepair comms because it, “wasn’t really rare, just less popular than D//rarry, Wolfstar, Ro//mione, Dra//mione, H//inny, and J//ily”

—I mean, there was a short stretch before OOTP where I tried to make myself like it because there was a BNF whose art I loved, and she shipped Snu//pin, so I felt like I had to be missing something obvious and cool and because I was, like, twelve, I tried to make myself ship the thing. That didn’t work and I eventually just moved on, but one thing that I recall about the Snu//pin fandom that appears to still be more or less true, based on everything I’ve seen of the present-day Snu//pin fandom?

Is that they came out about the same as the Wolfstar fandom, in terms of how many shippers ignored or made excuses for #Problematic things about the ship vs. how many shippers work those things into the overall fabric of how they ship the thing, how many shippers LIKE the ship because of those Problematic parts and having the opportunity to explore them in fiction, how many shippers actively dive head-first into exploring those parts of the ships because that’s where they find the most engaging character interactions or whatever they’re into, etc.

For examples of what I mean when I say #Problematic things about the ships:

the fact that all three of them are self-loathing [human or werewolf] disasters who are often passively suicidal and either prone to acting out on those feelings (Sirius and Severus), or prone to repressing those feelings until they explode all over some innocent bystanders (Remus)

the fact that all three of them have suffered horrific abuse in their pasts — whether from their parents or other sources — and find ways to take it out on other people (Severus on his students, Sirius on Severus and Kreacher, and Remus on almost anyone who tries to get close to him, even as he makes it seem like he isn’t doing that)

Severus outing Remus as a werewolf because he’s upset and felt like punishing someone else for it, thereby leading to Remus tendering his resignation

the fact that Sirius assuming Remus had to be the spy would’ve been at least partially based on anti-werewolf prejudices, and Sirius still clearly had at least some of those prejudices on his own, because even if Peter totally manipulated them in his favor, there had to be something there for Peter to manipulate in the first place, so???

the fact that Remus doesn’t help shit anything, in any situation ever, with his habit of trying to weasel out of any Emotionally Difficult™ conversations and his tendency to mentally spin most situations so that everyone is going to leave him in the end anyway so it’s acceptable to shut down, close himself off, and pull stunts that more or less come down to, “totally up and bailing on everyone,” which is understandable, given his backstory, but dude, that doesn’t make it okay or helpful??

basically, “literally anything about the characters as individuals, or in terms of their interactions with each other — both past and present — that could potentially cause problems for either/both/any/all of them and potentially make the relationship unhealthy (or unhealthier than it already was, in the cases of Snu//pin and Snack because…… oh boy, let’s not even act like either of those — or any ship with Sev in it, for that matter — is ever going to be ‘healthy’ by any definition)”

So, like? Is Snupin #Problematic? Yes, definitely. Are some of its shippers prone to ship it in #Problematic ways? Oh, yes, absolutely (Hell, the BNF whose art I used to like even flat-out said things like, “Sirius would never be able to be there for Remus like Snape could” and… um? Even granted that this was pre-OOTP: ummm???)

But on the whole, Snu//pin shippers aren’t actually any worse about totally ignoring and/or excusing these elements of their ship than Wolfstar shippers are (and, actually, they might be doing better than a LOT of the present-day Wolfstar fandom, since I usually don’t see any more recently made Snu//pin that doesn’t grapple with at least some of the #Problematic elements of it — they don’t always do it well, but at least they’re trying, which counts for a lot, to me, because most people don’t even try — while most Wolfstar these days flat-out ignores all the #Problematic elements of Sirius and Remus as characters, and of their relationship, in the name of what often amounts to borderline-OOC caricatured fanon nonsense, so…)

(……Look, I love Wolfstar, and I have for longer than some people on this website have been alive. But I don’t love a lot of Wolfstar shippers, which has been the case since the beginning of my Wolfstar shipping

stayed the case when HBP came out and I was all, “Hey, guys? I don’t like this BS Remus/Tonks thing either, but can we NOT erase bisexuals or treat Tonks like garbage when we’re talking about it, it’s not her fault that Molly Weasley is a meddling nosy garbage buttinski who thinks it’s her job to play matchmaker to fully-grown adults who didn’t ask and don’t want her input,”

and is still the case as I’m over here, all like, “ugh, man, at least we used to have SOME people in this fandom who enjoyed reading Wolfstar angst, now it seems like nobody cares about anything unless it’s all fluff, all the time, with absolutely no room for anything else because god forbid you ever want to write about LGBTQ characters whose lives aren’t 5,000% perfect, that obviously must mean that you’re a gross fetishistic cishet and not, for example, a neurodivergent, mentally ill lesbian survivor who feels left out by the trend towards forcing every LGBTQ person to act like we’re happy, all the time, and to act like we’re only interested in fictional LGBTQ people who are perfectly 5,000% happy all the time

“and to decry any and all depictions of LGBTQ people being UNhappy as gross fetishistic straight people garbage even when they were actually created by and for LGBTQ people, only to be misappropriated by straight people, as if there’s no way you could possibly be LGBTQ and NOT feel ~used and maligned~ by depictions of LGBTQ people that are less than 5,000% perfectly happy, even when they are being created by other LGBTQ people, yeah? ……but yeah, no, clearly: the fact that I like angst obviously means that I am a straight person because no ~real~ LGBTQ person ever has any need for those ~gross negative feelings~ or fictional outlets for them, never mind how many LGBTQ people get excluded from our narratives and spaces by this bullshit bc lmao who cares amiright. ://”)

—anyway, my motto has been and remains, “It isn’t a question of WHAT you ship, it’s a question of HOW you ship it,” so hey. Snu//pin is not my thing (it’s not even as non-shippingly interesting to me as Sirius/Severus is, because I love how much those two hate each other while unwittingly being perfect foils for each other), but I don’t actually have any desire to ship-bash it and most Snu//pin shippers are okay with me because unless they’re actually doing anything that’s harmful to anyone else, it’s not my business what they ship

That said: “Snu//pin” is still one of the worst portmanteau ship names ever and it still sounds like a deadly virus or something, but *shrugs* Whatever, it’s not the shippers’ faults that their ship members’ names don’t smush up all that nicely
