Anubis Deity Guide
Tumblr media
Who is Anubis?
Depicted as a being with the body of a man and the head of a jackal, Anubis is the Egyptian god of the dead. He is also the god of mummification, lost souls, and the helpless. Anubis is one of the oldest gods of ancient Egypt and was possibly derived from the older jackal god Wepwawet, as the two are often conflated.
Due to his role as god of the dead and afterlife, he also held domain over justice and has been depicted holding scales to determine the “weight” of the person’s soul.
Parents and Siblings
Ra (his father originally)
Hesat (mother)
Bastet (sometimes referred to as his mother)
Osiris (his father in later stories)
Isis (his mother in later stories)
Horus (brother)
Babi (brother)
Sopdet (sister)
Wepwawet (brother)
Bata (brother)
Lovers or Partners
Anput (female counterpart of Anubis)
Children

Epithets

Tpy-djuf - He Who Is upon His Mountain
Lord of the Sacred Land
Khentyamentiu - Foremost of the Westerners
He Who Is in the Place of Embalming
Guardian of the Scales
Notes
The name “Anubis” is the Greek form of the Egyptian name “Anpu” which means to decay.
The Greeks associated Anubis with Hermes, the Greek god who guided the dead to the afterlife. The two would be joined together to create Hermanubis, making him more accessible to non-Egyptians.
He was also worshiped in Greece on the island of Delos.
Anubis was said to be the creator of embalming.
His epithet “god of the westerners” means “god of the dead” as the Egyptian term for departed souls was “westerners”. This was because it was said that the afterlife was towards the west, the direction of the sunset.
Anubis was often depicted as a black Jackal or other canine or as a human with the head of a black jackal/canine. The black coloring was likely a nod to the discoloration of a dead body as well as the fertile silt of the Nile.
Anubis was regularly invoked for protection as well as vengeance.
The center of Anubis’ cult was set in Cynopolis, or “the city of the dog” but there were shrines sprinkled throughout all of Egypt.
There is a place that was known as Anubeion, where a shrine and a cemetery of mummified dogs and jackals were discovered east of Saqqara.
Originally Anubis’ father was Ra, though as Osiris gained popularity Anubis’ story got mixed up and he became the son of Osiris and Nephthys. In this later story, Nephthys tricked Osiris into having sex with her and became pregnant with Anubis who she soon abandoned for fear that her husband, Set, would find out about the affair. Osiris’ wife, Isis, found Anubis and adopted him.
In other stories, Anubis was said to be the son of Set or Bastet.

✦ TITLE: Lady Hathor -- The Goddess of Love and Beauty, Mining, Beer, and Dance
✦ SACRED ANIMAL: The Cow ✦ DIVINE WEAPON: Mirror Scepter ✦ NOTABLE EPITHETS: "Lady of the Offering; Mistress of the Stars; She Who Rejoices in The Horizon; Queen of the Dance" ✦ PROFILE: https://deitiesproject.com/portfolio/hathor/
----------
Lady Hathor is the daughter of Ra. Her sisters include Sekhmet, Mafdet, Serqet, and Bastet.
Hathor is a well-beloved goddess among both devotees and divinities, known for her warm nature and comforting presence. In addition to her musical talents and high mastery of healing magic, she holds a deep appreciation for various concepts of beauty and matters of the heart.
DEITIES x OC_TOBER -- Deity Profiles [Full Character Lineup]
----------
Another one of Ra's daughters to end the week off! I've only done a bit of development with Hathor, despite her popularity and wide influence in Egyptian mythology, but I adore her character thus far. Hopefully there will be more opportunity to let her shine in the project.
I feel like most of Hathor's fun facts have been scattered across different posts and askbox replies -- such as her singing talents; her relationship dynamic with her other sisters; Horus's long-held crush on her; and the fact that Hathor can easily drink everyone else under the table. So I'm not sure what more to offer at the moment, but that's what the askbox is for, if anyone wants to learn a bit more /o/

Ptah
Lord of the Sky; Lord of the Two Lands; Lord of Truths; Lord of Sunrise; Father of Fathers; Power of Powers
Origin: Egypt
In the beginning was the word. That phrase is now familiar as the first line of the Gospel of John, but is also familiar to devotees of Ptah, Creator of the World. He is the architect of the universe whose first building blocks were thought and speech. He is a primordial deity from the earliest epochs. Ptah means the “opener” but not only in the literal sense of opening a window or door. The word was used in the context of carving, chiseling, or engraving, which the Egyptians perceived as opening up the powers of stone or metal. Ptah is the patron of stone and metalworkers. Ptah is the craftsman of the universe. He fashions new bodies for souls in the Next Realm. Ptah was credited with inventing the Opening of the Mouth Ceremony, the ritual expected to reanimate the deceased. The Greeks and Romans identified Ptah with Hephaestus and Vulcan respectively
𓂃⊹ Iconography: Ptah is portrayed as a bearded man shrouded in a close-fitting garment or as a bearded mummy. He is entirely bound: only his hands project from a front opening. He may wear a menat amulet symbolic of joy, pleasure, and fertility. 𓂃⊹ Attributes: A scepter that combines several amuletic forms, including an ankh and djed pillar (See also: Osiris); builder’s tools 𓂃⊹ Consorts: Bastet, Sekhmet, and/or Wadjet. 𓂃⊹ Jewel: Lapis lazuli 𓂃⊹ Planet: Sun 𓂃⊹ Sacred site: Memphis, Egypt 𓂃⊹ Creatures: Rats
Ptah was lord of truth, and the patron god of sculptors and craftsmen (since he was considered to have sculpted the earth). he created the first mound of earth from Nu by imagining it in his heart and breathed life into things with his voice
Besides his role as creator of the universe, Ptah was also a master builder. He created the arts of stoneworking and architecture that allowed the Egyptians to build the tombs of the Valley of the Kings and, later, the pyramids. Ptah also ruled smithing and metalworking, sculpture, art, carpentry, and shipbuilding. Ptah’s priests were also often talented crafters, and were sought after for their advice and wisdom. Some became influential builders and advisors to the royal family, or even married into the royal family themselves.
Because of his association with tomb craftsmanship Ptah was also part of Egyptian funeral ceremonies. He was said to have created the important Opening of the Mouth ritual, which was a part of Egyptian mummification procedures. The Opening of the Mouth had to be performed to allow the mummy to use its mouth in the afterlife, so it could speak, breathe, and eat. The Opening of the Mouth was meant to represent Ptah’s own origin, when he used his mouth to speak the universe into existence.
Ptah was married to the lion goddess of war, Sekhmet, and their children were Nefertum, a god of healing and medicine, and Maahes, another war god. Ptah, Sekhmet, and Nefertum were the three most important gods in Memphis. Imhotep, a brilliant engineer, astronomer, and physician who lived in the 27th century BCE, was said to be Ptah’s adopted son, and became worshiped as a god himself after his death

Every day is magical; therefore, you can harness the energy of a specific magical day of the week instead of waiting for a planet to move or the moon to cycle.

Sunday Magick
Sunday is named for…you guessed it…the Sun! So we can think of this weekday’s magick as everything related to the sun. Cast your spells and perform rituals on Sunday for the following intentions: growth, prosperity, strength, vitality, healing, opportunity, money and victory.
Sunday’s magical correspondences:
Sunday is the day of the Sun. The first hour of Sunday is the planetary hour of the Sun.
Planet: Sun
Element: Fire
Colours: Amber, gold, yellow, orange
Keywords: Success, Energy, Creativity, Prosperity.
Magical Intentions: abundance, growth, enlightenment, strength, healing
Crystals: citrine, sunstone, pyrite, gold, goldstone, carnelian, orange calcite, tiger’s eye, amber
Herbs: sunflower, chamomile, calendula, marigold, bergamot, oak, rosemary, oregano
Gods/Goddesses: Helios, Amaterasu, Sunna, Sulis, Ra, Bastet, Sekhmet, Freyr, Apollo, Belenos, Aurora
Being ruled by the Sun makes Sunday a particularly powerful and energetic day.
Perhaps the best type of spellwork to do on Sundays are those that are actually supporting and/or boosting the power of another working.
Sunday is the first day of the week according to the American and many ecclesiastical calendars and the seventh day of the week according to the most other calendars.
Sunday is sacred to Mithra and Sol Invictus.
In 321 Emperor Constantine declared Sunday Rome’s official day of rest for all except those who work in agriculture, as he believed this day to be best for those activities due to its association with the Sun.
Constantine was both a Christian and a devotee of Sol Invictus throughout his lifetime, becoming more Christian as he grew older before finally completing his conversion just before his death. It is a holy day for many Christians. It is believed that the Christ was resurrected on a Sunday.

does anyonw have any good posts or advice on how to start working with Bast(et) or just on Bast in general? I have a statue of her that I found at a thrift shop like... 2 or 3 years ago now that I impulsively bought so I mean. Might be a good idea to reach out to her!

My deities changed me and I’m so thankful for it.
I used to dislike orange, yellow, lapis lazuli, daytime, honey and the sun, I used to consider physical beauty and vanity superficial things, I used to be less warm, I used to be more harsh, I used to think sunflowers were overrated, and while I still think roses are, I also think they are beautiful. I used to be too lazy, now I still am but Apollo makes sure to hit me with his death glare, I used to care too much even though I said I didn’t, now Aphrodite teached me how to actually let go...
And I have to thank the deities that came for a little just to take me on the right path, in order, Bastet, Hestia, Athena and Hecate (with which I’m working with again! Guess our work ain’t done yet).
Of course, it is natural to change, especially when you discover witchcraft as a teenager, a time when you are naturally changing and getting better (or worse), but I feel that witchcraft gave me compassion, and my deities helped me to find parts of myself I had shut down out of pure stubbornness.
To Apollo and Aphrodite, thank you so much for being with me, walking by my side and slapping my ass when I fuck up, I love you both more than what words can say.

Reconnecting with my deities was such a scary experience, but at the same time, I’m so grateful for it. I was expecting anger, but only received quiet understanding. I know I need to do better.
