Is now a good time to mention how I went into a fugue state last weekend and painted that guy who stripped naked and dove into a bass pro shop aquarium ? His lil renaissance ass pose inspired me

I once worked as a janitor at a Bass Pro Shop. It was backbreaking work and the pay wasn't worth it, but it helped pay for college.

One time while making the rounds, I found a lost crying toddler. "Hey kid. Are you lost? Come on, I'll take you to the help desk. They'll help you find your parents." I take the kid there let the staff know the situation. They take charge of things and I go back to my rounds.

Around 5 minutes later, I spot an elderly couple looking around panicking and I realize they're the kids grandparents. "Come with me. Your grandkid's at the help desk." I take them there. One staff member is showing videos on her phone while another is trying to determine how to start looking for his guardians. "I found his grandparents." Happy reunion. They thank me and I continue my rounds.

I took Mandana to Bass Pro Shop for some training. I’ve been struggling to keep up with basic life stuff lately so I’m trying to prioritize Mandana a bit more. We haven’t been since she was an adolescent and I was curious how she would do especially since this location is very large with wolves, polar bears, grizzlies, lions and elephants.

She did really well all things considered. Really focused and well-mannered. Ignored people and kids getting in her space and calling to her. A bit sniffy towards the exhibits and the floor but I expected that since I haven’t been going out with her and meeting her needs enough lately. We saw many dogs there which was great. I’ve been wanting to train around dogs more but pet stores are too cramped. There is a lot more space at Bass Pro Shop and it’s not isle after isle of dogs and high value items like at a pet store.

Most of the dogs were either completely neutral or fear-reactive. I was able to see and avoid the questionable ones for the most part but we did get barked at by a German Shepherd in a vest. I didn’t get a good look but I assume the vest was for reactivity and not a service dog / SDiT based on the intensity of the reaction. Mandana is usually ok with dogs barking at her if she is on leash but it spooked her enough that it startled her away a little bit. I jumped in surprise too so I don’t blame her.

After that interaction I took her outside for a little bit to decompress. When she was more relaxed we went back in and revisited the area where it happened and she seemed reassured. We didn’t stay long. Maybe half an hour for the whole trip. It was a lot for her to take in. Hopefully that relieves her boredom a little bit before her neurology consult (for her back pain) Monday morning.
