Prompt suggestion: Sonny defending and getting mad at someone telling Rafael to 'Go back to his own country' after he speaks Spanish in public
"You shouldn't have use the f-word."
"I know," Sonny sighs and pushes a bag of frozen peas on the back of his hand.
"At least not that many times."
Sonny gives Rafael a dark look. "We were in the courthouse. There were officers next to him and they didn't interfere."
"It still wasn't your wisest move to scream at them as well."
"That this guy is racist is obvious but if they're just standing there and watching him insulting you, they're aiding and abetting."
"Just say it, they're racists as well," Rafael says calmly.
"I mean he told you to get back to your country just because you said something in Spanish. This is your country! The arrogance of thinking America belongs to him..."
"Don't get back into the rage, love," Rafael says and puts a hand on Sonny's knee.
"How can you be so calm about it?"
"I just don't want you to punch a wall again," Rafael replies and points to Sonny's aching hand.
"It's just because I couldn't do anything," Sonny explains.
"I feel that every day but you're punching literal walls and that doesn't help."
"Should I have punched him instead?" Sonny huffs.
"Yeah," Rafael answers dryly. "But please don't do that."
Sonny looks at Rafael who looks away. It makes Sonny want to punch someone all over again. If he could he'd punch all the walls in the world.
"It hurt you, didn't it?"
"It hurt a little less because you defended me," Rafael answers in a heartbeat.
"Really?"
"Yeah, really. Not just that you take a stand against racist bastards," Rafael says, now looking Sonny in the eyes. "Also because you love me and punch walls for me."
Sonny smiles a little. "And you're sure you don't want me to punch the racist next time?"
"Oh no, I want you to punch the racist. I just ask you to not to it as I don't want to pick you up from a holding cell."
"I can yell at racists from holding cells," Sonny says.
"Yeah, but I'm not sure if you can make bond. Unfortunately, I didn't marry rich," Rafael comments dryly.
"I love you, too, Rafael."

Here's the thing: Rafael knows he's an utterly shit patient. He hates being sick. He hates being injured. He hates any situation where he can't bark orders for what he wants when he wants them.
So, of course, two months into dating Sonny, he manages to catch viral laryngitis from an office outbreak and slip on the sidewalk while leaving Hogan Place, thus throwing his back out.
Sonny, of course, announces in that 'it's-not-an-option' tone he sometimes has that he'll be taking care of Rafael.
"Do you want this to be short relationship?" Rafael rasps as they wait for the Urgent Care nurse to come back with his exit paperwork.
"No," Sonny says as he pulls a thermos from his messenger bag and twists the top open. "Which means someone has to make sure you don't die of sheer fuckery in the next 72 hours."
Rafael opens his mouth to say something cutting, but before he can, Sonny hands him the thermos, and Rafael gets a whiff of honey and lemon and peppermint. "What--"
"Jesus, stop talking. It sounds like it hurts," Sonny says, fingertips soft on the side of Rafael's throat like he can actually feel it. "It's just some tea I was bringing to you. I made it this morning."
Rafael glances at the thermos, then back at Sonny. "You--" He rolls his eyes at Sonny's sharp look. He takes a very deliberate drink of the tea. It's just shy of hot, the perfect sort of temperature to wickedly raw throat. "Tea," he says after he swallows.
"Tea," Sonny agrees, and there's a flash of amusement across his face. "And you can use it to take your muscle relaxers, too. And I'll make a pot of soup at your place tonight that'll keep helping your throat and also be easy to enjoy even if you're out of your head on pain meds."
Rafael nods slowly and takes another long drink of the tea. "I get grumpy easy," he says, mostly into the thermos.
Sonny huffs a laugh and leans in, presses a kiss to Rafael's temple. "You don't say."
The last of Rafael's fear melts away. A fear he had been intentionally ignoring since Sonny picked him up off the pavement and told him they were going to Urgent Care. He knows what he's like when he's sick, and he's been a little scared--okay, a lot scared--that it would send Sonny running.
But Sonny is nuzzling his temple and asking if he'd prefer vegetable or chicken noodle, and Rafael knows without question that they are definitely not a short-term relationship.

It was irritatingly easy to forgive Rafael for leaving him, to take him back again, welcome him into his home, his arms, his bed. Rafael held a piece of Sonny’s heart that could never be replaced, and as such, left him open and vulnerable and yearning.
But as he looked at Rafael beside him, watched the lights from the cars on the street below light Rafael’s peaceful, sleeping face up in brief interludes, he found he couldn’t care much. Because this, right here, was worth all the heartache that preceded it and could possibly follow.
Having Rafael by his side was worth it for as long as it lasted.

Rafael is running a fever. He complains about Sonny's attentions but he's secretly glad he's taking care of him.
A book, Netflix or one of his records - Sonny has every option at hand. But Rafael is just suffering.
His nose is so full that the pressure from it gives him a headache. Where he felt cold only moments ago, he now feels like heat is bursting out of him.
Rafael suspects Sonny's chicken broth to have turned the shivers around. Sonny's deliciously perfect chicken broth.
Now he needs to get that blanked off himself. That soft blanket that Sonny has so caringly put on Rafael. So very attentive of him, Sonny will make him melt to death.
Rafael sighs and curses that Sonny is not here to hear it. With Sonny being out running an erand, Rafael needs to move to get that blanket off himself and he's already dying.
On the coffee table next to the couch various items are splattered. Besides the few book options, there's also a cup of tea and his phone, fully charged of course.
Rafael picks up and only in the last moment, he can keep himself from calling Sonny. He's a grown man. He can do half an hour without his better half.
Maybe he should listen to Sonny and try to sleep. He can barely keep his eyes open as it is. But Rafael doesn't feel comfortable with the cushions of the couch and Sonny is not here to bring him a pillow from the bedroom.
As if he heard him, this is when Sonny comes back. Rafael hears the door unlocking. Shortly after Sonny walks into the living room with a gorgeous smile on his face and his very blue eyes.
"These are for you." Sonny holds up a very beautiful bouquet of flowers.
"You wanna bribe that fever out of me with those," Rafael complains.
"I would kiss you hello but I don't wanna catch whatever you're having."
"BJ instead is fine."
"I can attend to that in a minute. But some of the groceries have to go in the fridge, so I'm in the kitchen for a second, okay?"
Rafael nods and looks after his boyfriend.
He was joking. But come to think of it, it'll be easier to sleep post bj.
