it's time for some bapo au
The sanctuary of their room was both comforting and restricting.
Rich found they could be themselves when they were away from all the prying eyes, (aside from God, of course). When they were alone, especially in their room, this was the closest he got to seeing the real version of Jake Dillinger. Jake didn't need to put on an act when it was just them.
But it was only in these moments of privacy that they got to be true to themselves.
"Do you think..." Rich started slowly, tracing shapes on Jake's chest. The question sat on the tip of his tongue. It was always risky bringing this topic up. He knew how Jake felt about it- the answer was always no.
The way Jake's hand froze in his hair, Rich could tell he knew what he was going to ask.
Rich sighed. "Even if it's just Christine-"
He shifted as Jake got up, Rich rolled onto his side.
"Come on, it's not like she'll go around and tell everyone about us."
Jake: "You don't know what."
Rich: "Uh- yeah, I think I do. Jake, she's your sister for Christ's sake."
Jake: "I don't want to tell her."
Rich: "Why not?"
Jake: "Why- fucking why? Because it's not safe."
Rich: "She's the safest person we could even think of telling."
Rich stood up and walked over to Jake, taking his hands. "The world isn't going to fall apart if we tell her..."
Jake was quiet for a moment, avoiding Rich's eyes as he held his hands tightly. He was bloody terrified of how he felt. Everything about this terrified him. Rich had a point, he was being ridiculous. Christine was the safest person they could confess to.
But he was terrified that she would turn on him. He was terrified he would lose the one other person he could rely on. He was terrified he would lose her.
The only thing that felt right, the only thing that felt truly safe was Rich. Being alone in their room, their lips pressed together, feeling Rich's hands hold him close.
He didn't want to talk about this anymore, this wasn't a conversation he ever wanted to have. He didn't want to think about it anymore.
"Jake...?" Rich asked softly. "It's going to be okay, she's not going to tell anyone..."
Jake didn't reply. Instead, he pressed his lips against Rich's. This wasn't going to stop Rich from thinking about it, this wasn't going to be the last time Rich would ask about it, this wasn't going to change anything. If he was being honest, this was probably more of a distraction for him than it was for Rich. If he could just focus on the feeling of Rich rather than the ever present feeling of fear and guilt, that would be nice for a while.
The way Rich gave into the kiss and snaked his hands to Jake's hips told him that he was going to get his momentary distraction.

Ooo! 👀 Tell me about an up and coming wip please!
I'll tell you about three and a half of them. Basically, expect delays due to historybounding.
The hanahaki thing is turning into an origfic because one character was starting to sound too cynical to stay Peter Simmonds, while the other was starting to be too much of a jerkface to stay Jason McConnell (those that headcanon Jason as a jerk through and through, trust me, he cannot possibly be this much of a jerk—so, new character it is!) This is set in Victorian England, when flower codes were becoming a thing and the gentry/nobility could send each other bouquets of what they wanted to say instead of letters full of words.
I still also want to write another Victorian-era AU, a Sherlock Holmes crossover in the writing style of Arthur Conan Doyle's short stories, in that the situation is the aftermath of BAPO so Holmes and his companion (Victorian euphemism? Is "his companion", you know,) Watson are trying to reverse-engineer what happened at this Catholic boarding school production of Romeo and Juliet that they were invited to watch in the 1880s. There would ideally be parallels between the Peter/Jason/Ivy triangle and Holmes/Watson/Morstan (lattermost a.k.a. Mary Watson).
But the paperback Ian Mortimer Time Traveller's Guide that I ordered back in March that they said I can expect in April at the latest...actually arrived only just last week, in August. I didn't know at the time I ordered it that I would veer into the Victorian, which was why I ordered the Regency era one. But maybe reading this will revive my interest in continuing the BAPO Bridgerton AU.
After writing the hair fic I am very tempted to write my own Time Traveller's Stateside Guide to the mid to late 1990s to 2005 blog post series in case any BAPO fanfic writers want to go historybounding in that era. But I'm already feeling that I won't be inspired to write that until after, maybe, depending on how the setting is written...getting my own copy of Fraternity by Andy Mientus...which, if I order it and the distributors start shipping it to me in September, then I can apparently expect to have it in my hands by next February even if they tell me to expect it in October. I'm old, I need to huff the glue in the book binding or else I can't pay full attention to the story. No hate to people that read ebooks and listen to audiobooks, the thrill of possibly getting papercuts is my personal particularity. But I will definitely also be getting the Fraternity ebook next month because I can't wait until October or February.
After that I shall leave all the aforementioned WIPs unfinished because I shall never again return to the BAPO fandom and its identical aesthetic and vaguely similar premise because BAPO doesn't really have witchcraft and found families. (I'm kidding, there's going to be fanfiction crossovers galore. I am ever so very hype for this book release.)

bapo good place au where a bit after the events of the musical Peter also dies through unrelated circumstances (like a car crash or a natural disaster or some shit like that idk) and goes to the afterlife (the reformed one) and reunites with Jason and the fic is about them now trying to work through their relationship in the good place without the stress of their environment and they make it through and live happily ever after together because i just want them to be happy please just let them be happy im begging you please

That’s so tricky! I think it’s Ever After from the musical Bare: A Pop Opera! It breaks my heart and I love pain! Also one of these days I’m gonna make myself write that Curious Archer Bare AU and I will cry a fountain of tears but it’ll be so worth it. Unless anyone else knows this musical and wants to give it a crack!
Wrong song pictured above but sometimes I just need to see Peter and Jason happy together and omg this went on such a tangent. I was attacked by feels! It would seriously be so perfect for Curious Archer though and that gives me even more feels!
33. something you want to learn
