Yup,I've also noticed that the antis love to use B*rdugo's attempts at making the Drakling so evil by using Geny and to an extent Zoya in order to show how they were thes einncoent victims he manipulated and in Genya's case let her be slutshamed as well only in the first book Genya herself defends him by saying he did what he could it's only when it suits B*rdugo's agenda did she try and re-write it the same with Zoya's targic backstory of being a child bride(WTF?!)
Zoya’s child bride backstory actually makes the whole Darkling-evil, Little-Palace-problematic thing even more worse and hypocritical. If it weren’t for the Little Palace, Zoya would most likely be abused or dead and not grow be the Mary Sue Grisha BAMF of the books. To make the Little Palace optional instead of mandatory would definitely hurt a lot of Grisha whose intolerant families could very well refuse to send to the Palace in favor of abusing them at home. I don’t understand how Bardugo or antis could use her or Genya (canonically given the choice to be protected or stay on as a spy by the Darkling!!!) as total victims of the Darkling’s evil from before he even did anything to them. Incredible.

I just screamed at the finale of Shadow and Bone for an HOUR. First of all, Mal is a tender baby and I’d die for him. Second of all Alina, Inej, and Zoya, what BAMFs!!! I’m in love with Kit Young. And Kaz + Inej is suddenly my new favorite ship. I’m definitely going to rewatch this, loved everyone and everything about it.

Hi friends :)
I'm starting Shadow and Bone today, yay!
If you can't tell from my blog posts, I'm a big SOC fan/Kaz stan, but I've never gotten around to reading the original Grisha Trilogy. Figured I might as well cross it off my reading list before the Netflix show comes out. So...
Because I've already read the Six of Crows Duology (about a thousand times), there are some things I know already- who the Grisha are and what they can do, Genya+Zoya=2 bamfs, Nikolai is Sturmhond, bits about Alina...
BUT
All I know about the actual storyline for these books is that Alina is main and has a special power or something that makes her different and she has to save the world, Darkling is Big Bad and wants her power or wants to kill her, some people ship Alina/Darkling, but it's controversial and there's other ships for her with Nikolai and some guy named Mal who everyone says is kinda basic or boring I guess... maybe, idk, is any of this right? lol.
Full disclosure- I will likely end up shipping the forbidden ship. I've got a soft spot for the hero x villain trope, so we'll see.

ngl i don’t really remember? i read soc before tgt and i didn’t even remember that zoya was in soc when i later picked up tgt lmao. when she first showed up in s&b i felt like she had potential as a character but was pretty much resigned to the possibility that zoya would just be the popular mean girl for the rest of the series. she definitely wasn’t my favorite but i genuinely felt bad when she left the darkling’s office crying sdlfkjsdlfk
impression now:
i would willingly lie down in a street so that zoya could step on me what a legend??? idt i’ve ever loved a character as much as i love zoya and her character growth throughout all the books is so iconic… i love that she made a life-changing choice and stuck with it. she’s unapologetically caustic and isn’t cowed by anyone. she cares about her friends and students but is still brutally honest and helps her students improve. (it’s so funny that everyone who knows her says that she’s terrible but still respects her and cares about her sdfjslkfjs) one of the things i love most about zoya is that she’s ambitious and willing to be ruthless and do whatever she has to in order to achieve her goals, but she has the most unshakable moral compass?? also she’s insanely loyal and hilariously stubborn… anyone who tries to tell zoya what to do or how to act should be prepared to be obliterated

Overall I really liked it, I think (I'm still kind of in the processing phase lol). I had a lot of fun yelling at the characters for different reasons, and I liked the setup at the end. I hope that it means that someday we'll get to see more of the Crows interacting with the Ravka crew, because they have fun dynamics and I wish there'd been more of it in this book (especially Inej, I was waiting for like, half the book for her to show up ndjdkeksksnsjw). I think having Aleksander's PoV was an interesting look at how delusional he is, so that was fun. One of my favourite pastimes is yelling insults at the Darkling and this definitely offered up some new opportunities for that. Zoya is an absolute icon, but I'm never going to be over the line "They had been fools to think they could predict or control him" because really? You couldn't predict that the Darkling was going to pull something like that?? I've said it so often at this point, but Ravka really does only have 12 total brain cells and at any given time Nina has the majority of them. I love them all, but they are not always very smart. There are a lot of really good lines and scenes, chapter 20 made me a crying inconsolable mess, chapter 27 made me go absolutely feral, "Dragon Queen" is quite possibly the best title ever, and Hanne is a BAMF who deserves the world, and I think that's most of my thoughts summarized
I loved the Darkling's POV chapters too. It was always funny to watch him contending with his little cult 🤣
Zoya is absolutely amazing as you said. I love how easily Nikolai has faith in her. He'll definitely embodies the "THAT'S MY WIFE AND BEST FRIEND" energy.
Nina and Hanne's story and plot arcs were soooooooooo intense. I was internally yelling SO MUCH. Especially near the end with the whole......twist.
This book was a wild ride for sure.
