... and why?
Edit: It's my own fault for not clarifying, but the reason Post Earth is in quotation marks doesn't denote the future, but a scifi setting where humanity from Earth branches outward.

Rules: list 10 of your comfort shows and then tag 10 people
Tagged by @lurkingshan. This is actually kind of a funny question because we've been busy in BL for so long that I actually haven't been able to go back and comfort watch much.
What Did You Eat Yesterday? I am always thinking about a rewatch of this show. Whenever I need to calm my brain and go to sleep I put on one of the episodes.
Star Trek. Usually either Deep Space Nine or The Original Series. I've always loved Star Trek. I will continue to love Star Trek.
Babylon 5. We wouldn't have Star Trek: Deep Space Nine or Sense8 without this show. It's a favorite.
Is it Wrong To Try To Pick Up Girls In A Dungeon? I like adventuring party and dungeon crawling anime that aren't isekai. I compromise on harem anime.
Elementary. Yes, it's copaganda, but the relationships in this show are really well done. This is my favorite adaptation of Sherlock Holmes and Watson.
Midnight Diner. No one does late-night programming like Japan. This show is a fantastic slice-of-life experience about the patrons at a restaurant only open late at night.
Haikyuu!! I love this little volleyball anime.
Yu Yu Hakusho. Smile Bomb gets me going every time.
The Fosters. I still love Stef and Lena so much. I do not miss the Brallie nonsense.
Avatar: The Last Airbender. Really one of the biggest moments in my media life, honestly. I return to this show every other year it feels like.
Let's see about tagging @shortpplfedup, @ginnymoonbeam, @littleragondin, @callipigio, @twig-tea, @so-much-yet-to-learn, @dontgofarfromme, @negrowhat, @fluidsoul31, and @jjsanguine

7. Polyamory or Monogamy?
Most of the time, monogamy. I can barely wrap my head around how that works as it is.
That said, there have been more than a few times I've looked at characters and thought they aren't a polycule...but could be, very easily. Especially in those cases where a "love triangle oh noes!" situation really makes no sense. And I have a few poly characters in my own original drafts, though I don't delve too deeply into the specifics (at least not yet).
Speaking of...

10 Characters 10 Fandoms 10 5 Tags
Tagged by @iliiuan
Rules: choose 10 favorite characters from 10 different fandoms -- no double dipping! Then tag friends or mutuals to complete the game as well.
(Oh god oh god picking favorites what did I do to deserve this???)
Top 10
Rand al'Thor of Wheel of Time - I know that like, virtually every major character in the series has a bigger following than this boy, but dammit people he's just a regular dude on an epic quest that takes and takes and takes until there's nothing left but it's not done taking yet. I love every POV section he gets and every bit of suffering he has to go through.
Uncle Iroh of Avatar: The Last Airbender - Normally it's your Sokkas or your Zukos or your Tophs who would grab me but in a cast of shining stars Uncle Iroh is a particularly radiant entry. I would die for this man. He makes me feel I'm not drinking enough tea.
Koshirou "Izzy" Izumi of Digimon Adventure - I think part of the reason Digimon stuck with me all this time is the belief the first series had (and really the shows as a whole, but especially the first one) that none of the kids were bad or flawed for being who they were, only for how they might be hurting the others. Izzy was more comfortable with computers than people but his skill set kept the kids alive on plenty of occasions and he was never any less part of the gang for being a nerd except the times he hyperfixated while the others were in need.
Karkat Vantas of Homestuck - Homestuck was... Yeah. That sure was a thing, huh? But Karkat's constant shouting and cross-temporal feud with his past and future selves was endearing, as was his obvious hate-crush on the protagonist that was resolved in the most embarrassing way possible. And frankly, his continued disbelief at the late-comic antics more than made up for how shitty the late parts of the comic were.
Mercymorn of The Locked Tomb - Virtually every character in these books is iconic, but Mercymorn, the Saint of Joy is the sort of character who would have hundreds of gif sets of her if only she existed in a visual medium. Immortality and waging an impossible war give her nothing but contempt for our heroes, our villains, and frankly anyone else she's in the room with.
Jak of Jak & Daxter - I think I just have a thing for dudes who get tortured beyond all reason and struggle between their innate heroism and the corruption that's been burned into them by outside forces. Also he gets some cool guns, you know? Can't argue with cool guns.
Garak of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine - An exiled spy doomed to spend his days in a port/fortress owned by one set of enemies and administrated by another? A wide array of possible backstories, each one equally plausible except for how they all contradict each other? A slow onset of madness from the grief and isolation kept at bay only through chemical abuse and a homoerotic relationship with the galaxy's smartest idiot? And he's not even a main character!
Sheila "Dr. Girlfriend" / "Mrs. the Monarch" Fitzcarraldo of The Venture Brothers - Sheila starts out a complete joke (but then, who isn't a complete joke in her series) but grows into one of the most competent and compelling members of the cast. I'm still not quite sure what she sees in the Monarch but I enjoy how she's both fully supportive of his goals while still set very much on her own thing with the Guild of Calamitous Intent as well. I hope the show comes back so we can see what she gets up to next, or at least see her in that pillbox hat one more time.
Max of Sam & Max - Hyperkinetic lagomorphs are always a plus, and I enjoy the way he's pure id in a franchise where superegos are already in short supply. I'm gonna hafta replay the games one of these days.
Susan Ivanova of Babylon 5 - Learn the Babylon 5 mantra: Ivanova is always right. I will listen to Ivanova. I will not ignore Ivanova's recommendations. Ivanova is God. I have nothing else to say on this particular front.

8 Shows to Get to Know Me
The rules seem pretty simple, just to list 8 shows to get to know me. Some people have explanations and some don't so we'll see.
I was tagged by: @negrowhat, @farewellnverland, @wanderlust-in-my-soul, and I think @introvertedkeni. I’m sorry for putting this off, but I have watched so much stuff in my life.
1. Star Trek: Deep Space 9
I’ve been watching Star Trek since I was seven days old with my dad, and Deep Space 9 remains my favorite series. I like how it makes the future feel like a real place that people live in. Unlike the other shows, we can’t just fly away from our problems. We have to live with them and with our differences. I admired Benjamin Sisko so much. I have a deep love for Nog, and he and Jake are one of my first ships. I regularly return to this Star Trek more than any of them, and it’s an easy way for me to mention Babylon 5, without which this show would not exist. This may be the black sheep of Star Trek, but it is the show that I think legitimizes Star Trek the most.
Tumblr media
2. Yu Yu Hakusho
I grew up in the heyday of Toonami, and I find myself returning to Yu Yu Hakusho even as an adult. It’s one of the rare shows I think is actually more enjoyable in its English dub. I just enjoy how different each arc feels, and the Dark Tournament is still one of the most compelling tournament arcs in anime history.
Also, Smile Bomb is still the best intro song ever used IMO.
Tumblr media
3. Black Sails
I put this show just under the Wire in terms of how well I think it built on its own mythology over its runtime. The philosophical ideas at the core of this show are so potent, and it’s one of the few shows that isn’t necessarily about the queer experience in which the desires of queer people are the driving forces of the narrative. It’s amazing to think that this is a Treasure Island prequel blandly described as “Wet Game of Thrones,” but it’s one of the most compelling shows about anti-imperialism I’ve ever experienced.
Tumblr media
4. The Fosters
I started watching this show because I saw two lesbian civil servants raising all dem kids. In this show we have a black assistant principal and a white police officer who are raising the cop’s oldest son (a pianist), their adopted latinx twins Mariana and Jesus, and then they pick up Callie and Jude. Jude was queer, and I was thrilled to finally see a show about queer people raising a queer child. The actor who played Emmett on Queer as Folks (Peter Paige) was one of the showrunners. I think this show became a hot mess after season 1a, and instead started focusing on the kids way too much. However, I have an undying love for Stef and Lena, and the Jonnor pinky touch is still the best we’ve ever had.
This show is objectively not that good, but this is one of the few shows during the time of the Clexa Incident and the Great Lesbian TV Purge that went through that unscathed. I also spent a great deal of time fighting off Brallie fans in the era; I do not miss that. We just didn’t have a lot of options at the time, and this show was a beacon of frank queer life that I desperately needed.
This is another show who I think has a perfectly selected intro. This show also is a case study in the shift from ABC Family to Freeform.
Tumblr media
5. Avatar: The Last Airbender
I was almost 15 when this started airing. It was my first time having to track a show down because of the erratic airing schedule. I think this show has one of the most satisfying arcs in all of TV history, and it is my default show to use when I talk about how to do a serialized story well. Avatar fans can refer to specific episodes so easily and quickly, and yet we can appreciate how each episode contributes to the global narrative. It really is a masterpiece.
Tumblr media
6. What Did You Eat Yesterday?
As much as I have fun with BL, it’s really the queer shows that stick with me. A show about two gay men in their 40s trying to maintain a committed relationship despite their differences, and grounded around the meals they share together? This was always going to be one of my favorite shows of all time. I adore Shiro and Kenji, and I hope to have a partnership as good as theirs someday.
Tumblr media
7. One Day At a Time
I’m a sucker for a good sitcom. I was excited about the revival of this classic and centered around a Cuban-American family in which the daughter comes out as a lesbian. Also, Rita Moreno is here. This is one of the Netflix cancellations I will never forgive. The finale of the second season is one of the most memorable cries I’ve ever had in television. I adore this cast so much. This is a show that is so much greater than the sum of its parts.
Tumblr media
8. Moonlight Chicken
This is Aof at his best, and I don’t foresee anyone making anything that will replace this show for me. If I Told Sunset About You fixed the Love of Siam (2007) sized hole in my heart, Moonlight Chicken is the intergenerational queer family drama that I need as an adult. What we need as adults more than anything is a little bit of kindness and a great deal of compassion. Aof has so much care for all of his characters, his actors, his crew, and the viewers. This is one of the most gentle stories I’ve ever experienced about some extremely difficult topics. The intergenerational love flowing out of this show is so strong. I have been forever changed by this show.

I’ve been playing with my B5/Halo crossover AU lately and finally wrote the intro.
The thing that’s kept me from writing more here is I can’t decide if I want Chyler in this timeline or not. I’ve been leaning toward no because FSATAS predates MWAS, but Chyler being around feels natural now and I kind of default to it. But I feel like I should do something different. But I’ve tried to make up OCs to fill the first officer role and none of them click. Sheridan gets Delenn, shouldn’t Lasky get some action too? Don’t we need a scene with our two captains grousing about their women?
Tumblr media
You aren’t here for this. I’m probably never going to actually write this crossover so I don’t know why I’m agonizing so much. Here’s what you ARE here for.
If Commander Susan Ivanova had learned one thing in her two years as Babylon 5’s first officer, she had learned that situations could change rapidly.
Therefore, it shouldn’t have surprised her when a ship she didn’t recognize appeared seemingly out of nowhere right outside Command and Control.
She was surprised anyway.
It’s huge, was Ivanova’s first thought. Bigger than anything the Earth Alliance had and bigger than any alien craft she could think of. Long, dark gray with a blue glow at what Ivanova assumed was the stern and several thin structures protruding around the hull. Sensors? Weapons?
“What’s that?” Someone asked.
“Excellent question,” Ivanova replied dryly as she took in the scene. This huge, unfamiliar ship looked adrift.
“Lieutenant, did we detect a jump point?” Ivanova asked, turning away from the sight outside of the station.
“No, ma’am,” Lieutenant David Corwin answered from his station near the back, looking as befuddled as Ivanova felt. “Should I try to open a channel?”
“Do it,” Ivanova ordered. She hit her communicator. “Ivanova to Sheridan. Captain, we need you in C&C.”
****
The UNSC Infinity dropped out of slipspace like a rock.
Pain exploded in Captain Thomas Lasky’s ribs, then his knees, as he crashed into the holotable at the center of the bridge and then the floor.
“What the hell was that?” The captain demanded of no one and everyone. He grabbed the edge of the table and hauled himself to stand.
“I don’t know, sir,” Infinity’s AI said, his golden avatar flickering in and out.
The bridge lights dimmed, then surged, then went out completely, then surged again.
Lasky heard a shriek from behind him. His comms officer was hunched over, blood gushing out of her nose, onto her panel, and all over the deck.
Oh, God. “O’Hara! Hang on.” Lasky fumbled under the table for the first aid kit and sighed in frustration as he cracked it open. The roll of gauze wouldn’t do much against O’Hara’s nosebleed, but it was all he had.
“Hey. Hey.” Lasky hurriedly balled up the gauze and pressed it to the lieutenant’s face. “Lean forward.” He crouched beside O’Hars guided her free hand to the bridge of her nose. “Pinch.”
O’Hara nodded through a whimper. Lasky absently noticed the blood dripping down his sleeve.
The ship lurched and Lasky grabbed O’Hara’s chair to keep from falling over. The lights dimmed and finally returned to normal brightness.
Lasky looked around to see his crew pulling themselves off the floor, calling for and offering help, asking what was happening. At first glance, no one seemed seriously injured.
No one here, at least. Maybe the rest of the ship had similarly lucked out.
“Roland, what happened?” Lasky stood up.
Eight inches of yellowish-orange, 1940s-style pilot assembled on the table. “Infinity dropped out of slipspace unexpectedly.”
Lasky squelched a comment about stating the obvious. “Do we know why?”
“No, Captain.”
“Where are we?” Lasky took a breath and winced as his ribs protested. “Casualty reports?”
“None yet, sir, but it’s possible I’m not receiving—“
“Captain?” O’Hara interrupted. “I think we’re being hailed.”
****
“What’s going on?”
Ivanova looked over her shoulder at Babylon 5’s commanding officer. “See for yourself.”
Captain John Sheridan squinted out the viewport. “What is that thing?”
“That’s the question of the hour.”
“Definitely not one of ours,” Sheridan mused. “Doesn’t look like any alien ships I’ve seen.” He pointed. “No rotating sections.”
Ivanova frowned. Sheridan was right.
“You said it just appeared?” Sheridan asked. “No jump point or jump gate activation?”
“That’s right,” Ivanova confirmed.
“Can we talk to them?”
“Corwin’s working on it.”
“Commander, I’m having a hard time with that channel,” Corwin spoke up. “This vessel doesn’t seem to operate on any of our frequencies.”
“Their engine signatures don’t match anything we have on file, ma’am.” Another lieutenant added.
“Ivanova.”
Ivanova followed Sheridan’s gaze to the mystery ship.
“UNSC Infinity?” Sheridan read. “We don’t have a ship named Infinity.”
“If we do, it’s news to me,” Ivanova mused. “And I don’t know what ‘UNSC’ is supposed to mean.”
“I might have something!” Corwin called. “They might be able to hear us, Captain.”
Sheridan pushed the button. “This is Captain John Sheridan of Earth Alliance Station Babylon 5 to…” his brow furrowed slightly, like he couldn’t quite believe what he was saying. “UNSC Infinity. Do you need assistance?”
****
“It’s not a familiar frequency, sir,” O’Hara said shakily. The red-haired officer punched a few buttons with the hand not holding her now-useless wad of gauze. “I’m trying to isolate it.” She swiped at her watering eyes.
Lasky worriedly eyed the blood still pouring out of O’Hara’s nose and unthinkingly rubbed her back. “How you feeling, lieutenant?”
“If you want the truth, sir, I have felt better.”
Lasky chuckled and bit back another wince.
“I’ve got it! I’ve got it!” O’Hara announced. She shuddered and pinched her nose again. “Ow.”
Lasky clapped her shoulder. “Good work. Let’s hear it.”
“—ance? Peat—five—need—“”
“Can you clean it up?” Lasky asked.
O’Hara touched a few more buttons. “Trying, sir.” Her voice sounded a little stronger.
“—Babylon 5, do you need assistance?”
“What’s Babylon 5?” Lasky heard someone ask. He waved a hand for silence.
“Repeat, this is Captain John Sheridan of Earth Alliance Station Babylon 5 to UNSC Infinity, do you need assistance? Repeat, this is Earth Alliance Station Babylon 5–“
Lasky tapped his ear. O’Hara nodded and routed the transmission to his earpiece.
“—Captain John Sheridan of Earth Alliance Station Babylon 5 to UNSC Infinity, do you need assistance?”
Now might not be the time to ask questions, but if it were, Lasky would have asked what the hell the Earth Alliance was. “This is Captain Thomas Lasky of the UNSC Infinity, we read you, Babylon 5,” Lasky answered. But we have no idea who or what you are.
“Do you need assistance, Infinity?” The male voice on the other end asked.
“Ah,” Lasky looked around his bridge. Sparks flew, thumps and scuffles came from all corners, crew members verbalized their pain and confusion. “only all we can get.”
“Do you need medical assistance?” A woman’s voice said.
Lasky looked at O’Hara. “That’s affirmative.”
“Captain, I have reports now of injuries on all decks,” Roland said from the holotable. “Some major.”
Lasky closed his eyes briefly. “We could sure use a place to dock and sort out our situation.” He realized belatedly that this Babylon 5 might not even have that capacity and not for the first time cursed the lack of windows on the bridge. He understood the security angle, especially after the UNSC had lost so many ships to the Covenant, but he really needed to see what he was dealing with right now.
“We’ve got you covered, Infinity,” Sheridan didn’t sound flustered, so Lasky assumed the request must be feasible. “Do you have engine power?”
Lasky turned to the holotable. “Yes,” he said after reading through the preliminary damage report. “But I don’t know how much. We took quite a hit.”
“Copy, Infinity, we’re sending a Starfury escort your way,” Sheridan said. “Hold your position.”
What’s a Starfury? “Holding position. ETA?”
A short pause. “Twenty minutes.”
“Copy, Babylon 5. Infinity out.”
“Babylon 5 out.”
“Captain, I have external cameras online,” Roland said.
Lasky nodded. “Let’s meet our new friends.”
A few seconds later the main display lit up.
Babylon 5 didn’t look like anything Lasky had ever seen, human or otherwise. Ships swarmed around the five spherical rotating sections and what looked like solar panels. It was hard to tell on a screen (another reason Lasky wished for a simple window), but the station looked bigger than Infinity’s three and a half miles by a decent margin.
We stopped using rotational gravity a century ago. Lasky felt a strange unease wash over him.
“What is that?” Someone near the front breathed.
“Is it Sangheili?” Another officer wondered.
“It’s not ours, that’s for sure,” a third voice added.
“Sensor power is still minimal,” Roland said. “But neither Babylon 5 nor any craft I can detect matches the UNSC or Covenant.”
Lasky’s unease grew. The UNSC didn’t have stations. Neither did any Covenant races.
Where are we?
And how did we get here?
****
“Captain.”
Sheridan looked at his first officer.
“Are you sure about this?” Ivanova said quietly enough for no one else to hear. She flicked her eyes to Infinity. “We don’t know anything about these people. Where they’re from, how they got here.”
“No, Commander, we don’t,” Sheridan agreed. “But we’re obligated to assist any vessel in distress, and it looks to me like Infinity qualifies.” He offered what he hoped was a reassuring smile. “Guess we’ll have to get to know them. A stranger’s just a friend you haven’t met yet, right?”
Ivanova gave him a skeptical look. “If you say so, sir.” She straightened her uniform jacket. “I’ll go see to the preparations. We’re about to have a lot of company.”
Sheridan nodded his assent and looked through the transparent steel separating him from the vacuum of space.
“Where did you come from, UNSC Infinity?” Babylon 5’s captain murmured. “And how did you get here?”

24 for Kara and Lena
24. What other character from another fandom of yours that reminds you of them? For Legend of Korra: Avatar Korra = Kara Asami Sato = Lena Luthor Marvel: Captain Marvel = Kara Maria Rambeau (or her daughter) = Lena One could argue that Lena fits Ironman, but Lena isn't a narcissist. I never thought of Lena when I saw Ironman on screen (I mostly thought of how I wished he'd go off screen as I didn't like him). If anything, Lena would be similar to Ironheart (who first appears in Wakanda Forever). One could also argue that Captain America fits Kara. In fact, it might fit her better due to how he was removed from his time period so it makes him feel a bit like an alien in the present day. Babylon 5: Susan Ivanova has Lena Luthor vibes. Talia Winters could fit Kara, though she lacks Kara's silliness. Warning/Spoiler for Babylon 5: due to the actress for Talia leaving at the end of season 2, they sort of did her character dirty. And thus Susan does not get to be with the one she loves. :'( I don't have a lot of fandoms to be honest. I read more than I watch things. Book series:
Tamora Pierce's Emelan Series. Tris feels like Lena Luthor, while Daja feels like Kara. Lord of the Rings: Frodo feels more like Lena, while Samwise Gamgee would fit Kara. But it's only when I have the mad thought of doing a LotR AU that I have this thought. The book Light from Uncommon Stars by Ryka Aoki -- Lena definitely fits Shizuki Satomi, the violin teacher. Kara is Lan Tran, the alien in charge of the donut stand. It's just perfectly them. (If you haven't read this book, I HIGHLY recommend. It's so wonderfully gay, weird, and utterly beautiful. Heavens is the prose beautiful. *sighs dramatically*)
If I go too much further down the book series hole, I'll end up with a way too long post, so I'm stopping here. LOL

My Best of 2022: Cinematography
My Best of 2022 is a series of annual lists in which I pick the best of the best from 2022, all leading up to my official picks for My Top 10 Films of 2022.
There weren’t many films this year that absolutely blew me away in terms of their cinematography. There was a lot of solid work, sure, but only a few that really blew my hair back. Top Gun: Maverick was easily the best of the bunch, and while The Fabelmans wasn’t near the best of what we’ve seen from Kaminski, it was a beautifully shot film. Aside from some really great performances, Sandgren’s cinematography (along with Tom Cross’ editing) was the saving grace for Babylon. And the blending of lighting between CGI and live-action that Carpenter achieved made up for what a corny screenplay Avatar: The Way of Water had. The others are solid/great, too, but I’ve already said too much for a category for which I normally let the work speak for itself. Anyway, here they are…
My Top 10 Achievements in Cinematography in 2022!
1. Claudio Miranda for Top Gun: Maverick
2. Janusz Kaminski for The Fabelmans
3. Linus Sandgren for Babylon
4. Hoyte Van Hoytema for Nope
5. Russell Carpenter for Avatar: The Way of Water
6. Greig Fraser for The Batman
7. Frank Passingham for Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio
8. Jarin Blaschke for The Northman
9. Larkin Seiple for Everything Everywhere All at Once
10. Ben Davis for The Banshees of Inisherin
Enjoy!
-Timothy Patrick Boyer.
Next Up: Supporting Actress; Supporting Actor
