i just think todd always thought he didn’t get along well with animals until he and neil adopt a cat together and he gets so scared that he’ll be a bad pet owner but the cat just. keeps him company while he writes and doesn’t expect anything of him except cuddles and todd loves this little creature so very much

headcanon that Neil always uses the big spoons, regardless of what he’s using it for, in order to save the “good” spoons for Todd :)

There’s something deep inside of me that so badly wants to make a Dead Poets Society show. It would still take place in 1959, that wouldn’t change. The main changes would be the Knox/Chris thing. Mainly him sexually assaulting her (if you’ve read the book, you know), it could be changed to him getting drunk and talking about wanting to date Chris, and then Chet overhears, and things continue like the original. Charlie wouldn’t have the Nuwanda thing, I know some people like it but like, it’s racist, and there are other ways to show him rejecting society than the way he did. It would also put more emphasis on the struggle that Neil had, and maybe possibly make Anderperry canon, or deeply hinted at (I wouldn’t wanna push anything cuz it’s still 1959). Todd wouldn’t be directly stated to be autistic because the medical community didn’t really believe autism was a thing then, but it would also be deeply hinted at.
There could also be episodes dedicated to each individual member of the Dead Poets. I feel Meeks and Pitts are underrated and we don’t know much about them. It would be cool to have episodes dedicated to them all, learn more about their internal struggles (if they have any) and their family situations, maybe meet Todd’s brother, stuff like that. I also think it would be interesting to learn more about Cameron, possibly even why he ratted out on Keating.
This is just an idea that’s deep inside my head and won’t leave. Too bad I’m an 18 year old with no experience in television and can’t do anything about this idea. But now it’s out in the world, so that’s something

-Too Much-
Characters: Neil Perry x Reader
Warnings: Reader panics due to sensory issues.
Summary: Across the field from Welton Academy is an all girl's school called Elizabeth Academy. You seek comfort from your friend Neil after a rough day at school. Reader is written from an autistic point of view.
Note: This is just a fic I scribbled down over the past couple of days. I've been getting back into Dead Poets Society and I like writing comforting platonic fics so. Also I am aware this is not my best writing, I just wanted to get it off my chest.
It was difficult for you to concentrate. Your uniform was uncomfortable, the collar sitting too tightly around your throat. Your blouse had begun creasing in awkward spots, it fit weirdly on you, the sleeves digging too much into your armpits. However you were thankful for your skirt, it was heavy and made from wool, and it didn't have any awkward stitching. You tried to keep your mind off it. Picking strands from your fringe to fiddle with, but it wasn't enough. No matter how subtle you were at shuffling in your seat, your body was overheating, and it was getting harder to breathe. If the blouse you wore wasn't enough then the blazer on top sure was. You never understood how the other girls dealt with it. The sleeves were too short, and the cuffs were digging into your arms.
"Perhaps you know the answer?" The woman took large strides towards your desk. Her lips pulled tight, her unforgiving eyes creeped over her thin gold glasses to stare you down.
"Uh", The steady tap of your foot against the hardwood floor quickened.
A harsh 'tsk' clicked off her tongue as she snatched your hands away from your hair and slammed them on each side of your desk.
"Enough with the foot tapping!" She snapped, making your shoulders rise in anticipation.
The room fell silent, only a few giggles from across the room could be heard.
"Perhaps if you paid attention!" She yelled, "You would know the answer!"
As she returned to her place in front of the class, you resisted the age to bounce your knee. You needed to move, if you didn't you were sure you would suffocate to death. You felt the familiar lump form in your throat as tears pricked your eyes. You could feel everyone's eyes on you, with their stupid smiles across their faces. You had merely seconds before you were going to explode, so without a second thought, you leapt from your seat by the window and ran out of the room, a trail of shouts from your teacher falling behind you.
You chose not to go back to your room, as the teachers could easily find you, instead you ran down the staircase and directly out of the building. Sprinting across the freshly mowed lawn you rolled the blazer down your shoulders and tried to tug the sleeves off your arms. The fabric wouldn't budge past your elbows, causing you to panic.
You didn't stop running, you didn't want people to see you go crazy from their class windows, so you ran and ran until you could see his school. Your best friend since you were 5, Neil Perry. Thankfully he didn't live too far, and your legs had taken you quite a distance in such a short time.
Your blazer was stuck, hanging in the middle of your back, pulling tight around your arms and elbows. You just prayed no teachers would see you, if they saw a girl sneaking into an all boys school they would never forgive it. Thankfully, as you reached closer to the school grounds, a head of bright orange hair turned to face you, an immediate look of concern washing over his face.
He turned to the boy next to him, "Go get Neil!"
By this point you couldn't hold it in, and the tears fell from your eyes without a struggle. Collapsing on the grass, your head hung low as your body shook with sobs.
"Hey, hey what's going on?" Neil fell in front of you, grasping your shoulders.
"I can't get it off, I can't get it off!" You tried not to hyperventilate.
He pulled the jacket down, trying to pry it from your arm.
"Please get it off, I can't breathe!" Your throat swelled.
"It's okay, it's okay," He promised, before a satisfying rip sounded from your sleeve.
You could feel the immediate relief, the fresh air breathing against your arms, before a second rip, the blazer falling from you completely.
You fell into his arms, trying to hide your face from the crowd of boys around you.
"Okay guys can we have some space please!" He demanded.
The thin fabric of your blouse still irritated you, but it was better without the blazer.
"What are you doing here, you know you can't be here?" He said gently, rubbing your back.
"I can't go back, it's too much." You cried.
Neil studied you for a minute, before checking his surroundings.
"You remember where my room is don't you?"
A small nod was all you gave before he helped you up, "Class finishes soon, don't worry about the boys they won't say anything, just try and get up there as quickly as possible. I have some flannel pants and a green sweater folded on my bed, you can change into those okay?"
You looked into his eyes, wanting to tell him how thankful you were and how much you loved him, and that you were sorry for being a nuisance, but you knew better than to stand around and run the risk of being seen. So a hug was all you could give for now. After a moment, he pulled away "Go!" He ushered.
Racing up the concrete stairs you pulled open the wooden and glass door, not wasting anytime and heading straight for the stairs. Your heart began to race just a little bit more each time you heard a class in session.
As you kept climbing up sets of stairs, the echo of the classes below got more and more quiet, and soon enough you found yourself in the boys dormitories. Opening the door to Neil's room you rested against it to catch your breath, before collapsing on his bed.
Once you had caught your breath and the adrenaline rush faded from you, you tore off your blouse, not caring about the buttons.
Next, the cream coloured lace bra that had been itching at your skin leaving it red raw. You didn't bother unclasping it, instead just rolling it up your chest and over your head.
Your fingers scratched around your chest, before you snatched Neil's knitted green sweater and pulled it over you. A bell sounded from outside the door, followed by a crowd of footsteps getting closer to the dorms.
Yanking down your skirt you slipped on the flannelette trousers and bundled your clothes into the corner of his bed.
"Girl." You didn't have time to react before the door swung open, a blonde haired boy staring at you in shock from the doorway.
Your eyes fell wide, that's not Neil.
"Uh." Was all you could manage to say before the boy was shoved into the room, Neil tumbling in after him and slamming the door.
Neil immediately took the boy by the shoulder, "Okay don't freak out, this is my friend, I'm sorry I didn't tell you she was gonna be here." He huffed.
The boys eyes moved between you two.
"I'm- I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to intrude." You stuttered.
You introduced yourself and lifted your hand. He took it before greeting you, "I- I'm Todd."
After a few moments of awkwardness passed, Neil's focus fell on you, "How are you feeling?"
You twirled a strand of loose fabric between your fingers, "Better, I'm sorry I overreacted before."
Neil's expression relaxed, a gentle grin forming on his face, "Don't be silly, you weren't overreacting."
Neil looked you over before gesturing you to sit on the edge of the bed.
"Have you thought about what you're going to do when you go back?" He asked, opening a draw to retrieve a hair brush.
"I don't want to go back," you mumbled.
You felt the mattress dip behind you.
"I know, but you have to."
The elastic that was holding the majority of your hair together was slowly pulled out. He gradually combed through the knots, the bristles of the brush massaging your scalp.
Todd focused his attention on the heap of books sprawled across his desk, and began piling them in the corner of the table.
Your head was tugged back slightly as Neil twirled your hair around his finger, twisting to secure it into a bun.
Without warning, the aged wooden door shot open, almost coming off its hinges.
"Guys what are you doing!?" Neil hissed.
A nimble, blonde boy with the face of a fairy and glasses hanging over his nose greeted you with a pleasant smile, "Oh hi, long time no see huh."
A giggle bubbled from your throat, "Nice to see you too Meeks."
A glimmer of orange peaked from behind Meeks head, "Hey."
You fiddled with your fingers before taking a proper look at him, "Thankyou, for earlier."
Cameron shrugged his shoulders, "It's fine, do you want a bag for your clothes?" He asked, raising his eyebrows.
Your eyes widened as you noticed the pile of clothes next to you, your bra lying on top.
You snatched the heap into your arms, stuffing your bra in-between your blouse and skirt so it wasn't visible.
You felt a pinch on the back of your head as Neil fixed your hair into a bun.
You whispered a thank you, hugging your clothes to your chest.
Meeks took Neil's seat behind you as he left to put his things away.
"How have you been?" He asked, pushing his glasses back up his nose.
"I've been okay, what about you, have you got that radio working yet?"
His face beamed, "Not yet, but Pitts and I are gonna work on it tonight!"
"Okay, come on." Neil returned from his place at his dresser. "Let's get you back before you miss dinner."
Your brows knit together, your lips tugging into a pout, "I don't want to go back Neil, not yet."
Neil's mouth twitched from side to side as he thought, "I understand you don't want to go, but you have to, if you don't return soon there'll be people searching for you."
The thought haunted you. You knew you would have to face that school again, it was inevitable.
Cameron took a seat on Todd's bed, causing Todd to frown slightly, "Good luck with that, the teachers will spot you in seconds."
Neil let out a huff, before shuffling to the window, "Well, looks like we'll have to take a shortcut."
The window groaned as he maneuvered it up the frame that held it in place, before he reached out his hand, gesturing you over.
"I'll see you later Meeks." You sighed, planting both feet on the floor.
"Yeah see ya."
"Bye Cameron." You mumbled.
"Bye."
"It was nice meeting you Todd," You smiled before turning on your heel.
"Ye-yeah it was nice to meet you too."
Neil swooped his head through the window frame and stuck his leg out, before landing on the roof.
You followed in his steps, taking his hand as he guided you out, making sure to mind your head and keep your balance with your bundle of clothes under your other arm.
Tip toeing along the roof tiles, Neil found a safe landing spot for you both to jump down to. He leapt into a raised garden bed, taking your clothes from you so you could get down safely.
Once jumping off the garden, you both took off towards the field.
"So, do you want to talk about it?" He asked.
Heat rose to your cheeks, how could you be so overdramatic?
"I was just having a bad day."
"Couldn't concentrate?" He guessed.
"How could I? You know what I'm like with numbers. I think Ms Humphries just hates me."
"I don't think it's possible for anyone to hate you." He smiled.
Before you knew it, you had already walked three quarters of the way there.
"Any plans for the weekend?" He asked, crossing his arms over his chest.
"No, I want to cut my hair though." You sighed.
Crinkles laced his eyes as he laughed, "You've been saying that for years, just do it."
"Are you kidding? They would kill me!" You exclaimed.
"Well, what if it was something you couldn't help?" He inquired with a mischievous grin.
You squinted your eyes at him, trying to understand, "How do you mean?"
"Well, what if one day, someone was chewing on some bubble gum, they were blowing bubbles and some accidentally landed in your hair?" He tilted his head as he explained, "And we just couldn't wash it out so..." His hand came up beside his face and imitated the motion of scissors.
"Hmm." You thought aloud, "Don't you think that's reaching?"
"Oh well of course not!" He exaggerated.
You were thankful for how supportive he was. It was true that you had been wanting to rid yourself of your hair for years. You couldn't stand the way it brushed against your neck and always ended up in knots. Neil has always helped you to feel more comfortable, fixing your hair for you without you even asking.
Finally, you could feel the familiar stone path beneath your foot.
"I'll call you tomorrow okay?" He assured you, leaning down to pull you into a hug.
Moments later you started along the path, feeling Neil's eyes linger on you, making sure you got home safely and didn't run off again.
