I guess all I'm going to say is that it is a bit crazy how many people are willing to bend over backwards to justify why we should be buying the new Epic Mickey game. you know?
listen I am incredibly excited for the game and I've wanted this for years and years and years. Ok. But the money is still going to Disney. It's branded by Disney, it's got their name on it, it has their characters-- they own it, and they're not letting the game get by without squeezing it for profit.
just. have some compassion. don't use your money to fund Palestinian genocide, and don't encourage other people to do it either. donate esims

sorry to indirect my entire dash right now but do you know how much plastic Shein is putting out in the world with clothes that will be worn once (if at all)? do you know how many plastic bags are manufactured in a day? do you know how many gallons of oil Shell is dumping into the Great Barrier Reef or the gulf of Alaska (where we get most of the fish we EAT) every day? do you know how much plastic packaging is LITERALLY unnecessary and could be replaced with paper? How many plastic straws are consumed in a day, and how many could be made with biodegradable plastic instead, or how many non-shitty paper straws could be made, easily, but plastic is $.001 cheaper so companies won't do it and want you to think paper goods are the enemy?
Adopting pet mini-causes that detract from the rage deserved by corporations for the deep and irreconcilable harm they are causing, is one of the worst things you can do for the environment. Because you being distracted by things that don't matter as much is what those corporations want so they can carry on as they are. be angry about BIG things that fucking matter. not making ~100k extra vinyls that will be kept and used and listened to for 10+ years. 100k items is not a lot when their longevity and everything else thats going on is factored in. Taylor Swift making vinyls is not a wastage problem like the rest of the shit happening in the world with plastics is a wastage problem. be SO fucking serious right now and please don't insult actual ongoing environmental issues by focusing your rage on physical MUSIC.

I have a question. This is inspired by the recent discourse, but it's not about the recent discourse. I'm genuinely interested to learn: How common is it for people to participate in fandoms where they haven't read/watched/played the source material? I don't mean, like, before you've finished the source material, or before you've consumed every single installment/season/interpretation of it, but when you have not engaged with it at all.
I ask because this is practically unfathomable to me, and I always figured I was in the majority on that. I've found that I can't engage with fanworks if I haven't interacted with the canon, and the thought of producing fanworks for something I've never read/watched/played is horrifying to me, both because of the potential for embarrassment and because it just... doesn't seem like it'd be fun.
Have any of y'all gotten involved with fandoms where you have virtually zero knowledge of the source material? What was that like? And why?

The more responses I see to the earlier post regarding the fraction of issues regarding people's hcs and the way they enforce problematic racial stereotypes, the more I see people missing the point.
So! Let's revise the point in simpler terms!
POC: Hi! We've noticed this pattern of portrayal and we just wanted to know what's up with that? It's kinda weird as shit to see–
Fandom: You're telling us what to do! Mind your business! We were fine without this before!
POC: ...
POC: WE JUST WANNA KNOW WHY YOU DOIN ALL THAT–
No one, and I mean NOT A SOUL, gives a shit regarding who you headcanon as whatever race–not a damn soul.
We do think it's weird that these headcanons are depicted awfully similar to the racial stereotypes prevalent in the media and all we're asking is for you to examine where that's coming from because it's making the minorities who have been ever so patient about this uncomfortable. We don't need you to put on a show about how racist you aren't, validate your ethnic HCS with racist scenarios or change your shit. We just want you to consider what those headcanons look like and how they particularly affect others when done in negligence. If you're not willing to do that and you're not willing to look outside of your view point and get the idea then at least do us a favour and say your shit with your chest so you can get blocked instead of hiding behind anons and spouting your bullshit. It's disgusting and your ignorance is tiring to see. At least let me use the algorithm to take you off my feed so I can see the people who don't make me feel shit for existing and asking for consideration.
No one is calling you racist. No one has made this implication. We all just want you to unpack something because it's weird and we can't exist in a space where everyone is blatantly reinforcing damaging stereotypes and denying POC a welcoming space. But if that's too hard for ya then all I'm gonna personally say is:
It's pretty fucking hypocritical that y'all wanna consume media that discusses and critiques systemic racism enforced in schools, the media and society, but you wanna act like you're not adding to the problem those literary allegories represent.
P.S. Centrist behaviors and silence can and will be read by me as being complicit, and wanting to sweep this under the rug is telling of how fucked your mindset is.

obsessed with all of these queer women npcs as of late. ensemble girls 2.0 but it revolves around the apparently existing all female ES when akira
heres what we are going to do for ES 2 (or 3 i guess its 3). we let miss ideasama open her all-female idol company. she quits rhylin and it Bankrupts. love wins. hashidate amano helps sponsor said company so they will actually have a friendly-enough ? relationship with eichi. maybe even manage a coexistence of sorts (since amano is both friends with eichi and rich enough that he can't overpower her) (idea is already cooler than eichi and has money for it too). AND we bring negi back somehow. please. or at least hitsugi have him as a lead producer.

i don't know if this could be considered a reactionary or anti-intellectual sentiment or something, but does anyone ever have the experience of wanting to consume older media (and by older i mean like pre-2010s) specifically bc you don't really want to deal with endless discourse around it? and when i say this, i don't necessarily just mean negative or critical discourse, but also like obsessive fan discourse that discusses every single little detail from every possible angle and has even created micro-discourse about those specific analyses.
like, for example, i'm thinking of challengers, which is a movie i really enjoyed and which i do mostly enjoy engaging in discussion and analysis about, and which for the most part seems to have been received positively, but there's something i find so exhausting about engaging with it sometimes (and by extension a lot of contemporary media) because it feels like you are required to have a Take on it. i'm also thinking about all those articles from like vulture or variety or whatever that are titled things like "we need to talk about THAT scene" and all the stan accounts and it's just like............idk i wish we could just let the art BREATHE sometimes, you know? not everything NEEDS to be discussed to death....
and like...this isn't to say that there was never tons of discourse around older media (DEFINITELY not lol) but, i guess, because there was no social media back then and no algorithm to track your movements online and to put its finger on the scale occasionally and no endless content slop machine and people's attention spans weren't totally zonked, it feels like it was less............omnipresent? idk i guess the point i'm trying to make is i wish we as a culture could just let works of art just like.......exist and breathe for just a little while before we launch into our Hot Takes
