Henry Fuseli (1741-1825) "Tekemessa and Eurysakes" (1800-1810) Oil on canvas Romanticism Located in the Yale Center for British Art, New Haven Connecticut, United States Fuseli’s painting is based on the ancient Greek tragedy of Ajax in The Odyssey by Sophocles; it focuses on the aftermath of the great warrior’s suicide. His concubine, Tekemessa, and their young son, Eurysakes, are shown here mourning his death. Tekemessa had been taken captive by Ajax, who was enchanted by her beauty during the Trojan War. She pleaded with Ajax not to take his own life, fearing for their son’s life and safety. Ultimately Eurysakes survived and was taken to his father’s native island, Salamis, where he later became king.

THE SHEPHERD'S DREAM (1793) by HENRY FUSELI
This painting shows the scene in Milton’s poem where the fallen angels in Hell’s Hall of Pandemonium are compared to the fairies that bewitched a passing peasant with their music and dance. The fairies dance above the sleeping shepherd and one of them touches the shepherd with a wand that induces dreams.
In the lower left hand corner, a woman pulls a mandrake from the ground. In the upper right hand corner, we see QUEEN MABS. QUEEN OF THE FAIRIES and OBERON's wife. She is said to be the one who speaks to the sleeping men of their unspoken desires.
While the naked fairy is combing her hair, the grotesque child is tied to QUEEN MABS and is pointing at the shepherd. FUSELI’s interpretation confirms an erotic dream similar to his erotic drawings.
This work is yet another example of FUSELI’s dramatic interpretation of literary texts. FUSELI relied almost entirely on his imagination, and as a result, he was very conscious of moving away from the traditional style of history paintings where the painting was judged by its historical or biblical veracity.

Lesberados- From Della LaGrace and Henry Fonseca
By me in oil and acrylic :)
Refrence images under the cut!

Left is pose refrence- Lesberados from LaGrace's Love Bites. Right is my stylistic refrence Henry Fonseca (specifically that peice is Wide Eyed and Bushy Tailed No. 1). The assignment was to fuse two different artists composition and style. I honestly wish I took more style notes from Fonseca because it would have looked much cooler XD
