Butch Fairy Zine: interest check!
This is an interest check! For a Butch fairy themed art zine to be held in 2024. Find the link here
This will be an art book that celebrates butch folk, and fairies, but through the lense of a field guide, with sketches and concepts alongside full colour illustrations. This project is currently being planned by 5 people, and a frog 🐸
This is not an Artist App form, but if you want to apply as an artist, you can still fill this in. We will make An Artist form later in January.

Hiya! How can we apply for an animator position on the upcoming serie? :D
We'll put out a call for animation reel submissions on social media when we're ready to hire!
For hiring status updates, I'd suggest following Fable Siegel, who'll be the showrunner on Season 1. Find them here @fablepaint , on Twitter, or on Bluesky
--------------- You may already know this, but for anyone else out there who's looking for art jobs, have a portfolio and/or reel ready to go so you can apply when opportunities present themselves! It's generally best if these are things you can link to (personal web site or online gallery, curated social media account, youtube, vimeo, etc.) instead of filling a potential employer's inbox with dozens of large file attachments.
This applies to art jobs in general, not just Lackadaisy, of course!

Btw I need you guys to know there are many youtube channels and other content producers out there that are not the artist of the work they host, and do not necessarily disclose that information.
A dear friend and fellow animator has a repeat commission client that hosts their work on youtube without credit, and yet, every comment is a compliment of how good the animation is, or how much they've "improved."
I'm not saying to stop watching, as clients vary, especially online. Income sources are income sources. But, be aware that this is a common dynamic between comissioners and artists.

artist asks
i’ve been struggling with determining a career path and how to get a drawing job lately… i like making illustration and also comics, since i love and am good at storytelling.
the main difficulty is the comic/illustration industry in my area is not as in demand as other places. i can do freelance, but i want a stable position first for financial security before freelancing. also, opening commissions requires a moderate number of followers, which i’m pretty much lacking atm 😭
fellow artists/lovely people, if you have any tips for landing a remote drawing job, or career suggestions, i’d love to hear them 💥💖

Jobs for 2D Artists?
I like to do illustration and 2D art with a cartoonish art style, much like furry artists out there. But, I’m having trouble finding jobs that aren’t animation, 3D art, or with low average salaries. Does anyone know any decent jobs for illustrators/2D artists?

Butch Fairy Zine: Answering questions
What art style are we looking for? What is the estimated timeline? Will you get paid? we answer them here!
We will be answering more questions and posting them in the days leading up to the artist application form opening. So if you have questions, use our inbox, or you can fill in our interest form and leave them at the bottom. And if you have queries for the frog, you can leave them there too. He is very busy, so keep that in mind.
Find the interest form here.
Our Artist Application form will open on the 12th of January 2024.
text version under the cut
What type of artists are you looking for? And are you after a specific style or a range of styles?
We are looking for artists who can create pieces with fully rendered fairies and a background within the specified schedule. These can be digital artworks that are flat colour artworks, paintings, a mixture, or another style entirely.
We will also accept mixed media and traditional artworks, but they will need to be scanned at a minimum of 300dpi.
~
When you sign up for an artist position, are there any requirements to be a part of the team?
E-mail communication is required (discord is optional).
You must have a PayPal account to receive payment.
You must be able to communicate comfortably in English.
You must be 18 or older at the time of signing the contract by the 16th of February.
~
For artists accepted into the zine what would be the timeline for completing and submitting artwork?
Our current schedule for the artists requires concept ideas to be submitted by Feb 16th, and the final version by May 16th! Progress check-ins will be on Feb 29th, March 21st, and April 11th.
(In the image there is also a table including this information as well as the final submissions date being May 16th)
~
When the zine is for sale, where would the profits go to (charity, zine admin, etc.)?
We are aiming to hold pre-orders in June/July of 2024, with a flat fee paid to all contributors and additional proceeds split between contributors and mods.
Our priority is to make sure each contributor is paid fairly for their work. If sales do well enough, 20% will be used for future books and projects, and 80% split between taxes and fees, production costs, contributors and shipping costs.
~
Is this physical or digital and will there be prints of the art available? Got any merch ideas planned to go along with the zine?
Both physical and digital! Our goal is to make a 210 x 148 mm (A5) perfect-bound soft cover book.
We also plan to add some paper merch, including prints of some of the art from the book. Additional merch ideas include stickers, sticker sheets and bookmarks.

Ok, now some advice for anyone who wants to work in the animation industry or in another creative industry when searching for a job:
DON'T do what I show in this comic. When you want to work in this kind of industry and you're a begginer you need to apply to entry level positions. That's obvious, right? That's what I did. But in your application positions you shouldn't talk about all the other stuff that you know about apart from that position. Maybe you can keep in your resume some stuff like a personal project in which you did more than just that particular job.
I still don't know much about this industry, but this is a thing that I learnt with my own experience. Maybe you're like me at that moment and you don't have much to show about that particular position, so you decide to mention some other stuff. That in most cases is a bad decision because recruiters may think that you don't know what you want to do. They can also think that you are too ambitious because you're saying that you do all this stuff.
In my opinion, you should always say anything that can really help you in the position that you're trying to get. So you need to think for yourself which stuff is actually useful. If everything that is in your resume is useful to your position that will mean that you know what you're doing.
You can keep multiple resumes to apply for different positions.
Also, if you keep that stuff to yourself then you can talk about it a bit in a possible interview (or once you're hired!). Once you're in an interview the recruiters already have interest in you, so you can talk about those bits of information about yourself. But not much, you're supposed to be one particular type of worker.
I know that in artistic fields a lot of us do lots of stuff and artistic projects. And everything makes us learn more and a lot of your knowledge can and will be used in different projects and positions. And recruiters know that as well. So what they want to hear is your experience in that position that you're applying to.
And if you don't know much about that thing, or you don't have a complete enough portfolio to show... You already know what your next step is.
Hope this helps someone :)
