Why I went from Palworld hater to 1# Palworld fangirl

When I first heard of Palworld I was initially skeptical. I thought it was trying too hard to be edgy and I'm not a big fan of shooters. But then I saw the reviews and heard that it was Ark: Survival Evolved but with Pokemon. And now I'm 1000% percent onboard.

Ark is one of the deepest survival sims out their but it is held back by bugs ,poor optimization, slow and tedious default settings and the games world can barely handle it's photorealistic graphics. But taking Arks hyper deep crafting and survival sim gameplay that allows you to do anything you want and combining it with Pokemon's universally appealing cute creature aesthetic and creature taming mechanics is brilliant.

Fuck gym leaders I want to build a empire of cute and cuddly fluffballs and terrorize the world.

The response to Palworld is what happens when people who only play Pokemon get to finally experience the gameplay of Ark Survival Evolved.

tossing my hat into the palworld ring as someone who's playing it because it happens to be on gamepass and yeah its for the most part an asset flip and just ripping off pokemon designs but it's more of an ark survival evolved clone than a pokemon clone. if anything it's showing up mid survival games. also this isnt me defending it or whatever but you cannot ai generate 3d models. that's not a thing. at least not yet. just kinda annoying when people are this wrong about something even if it's supposed to be an argument against something you dislike. but the actual gameplay is fun as hell for a multiplayer survival/exploration/base-management game. there is good game design behind everything. now i'd be tempted to say 'hey maybe now they have money to model original creatures' but it being blatant pokemon rip offs is half the fun and the hook. like putting half naked anime girls in your gacha. i suppose i more rather wish other developers thought about their game systems as much and priced their games at 30$ instead of 70$. but i didnt pay for it anyway

I decided to buy Palworld during the current Steam sale because it feels like it could vanish under a pile of lawsuits at any second and I wanted to get my licks in before it goes.

It's... it's ARK: Survival Evolved. It just is. Only you play as a knockoff Fortnite character instead of a greasy pooping caveman and your dinosaurs have become Pokemon. The world itself is generally realistic (if colorful) and does not match the cartoony individuals at all. The actual gameplay is, well, it's ARK, but your Pokemon (sorry, 'Pals') are way more helpful than any stupid dinosaurs and will actually do things on their own and keep themselves alive. That's nice.

I will freely admit that the 'Pals' are just super cute and generally adorable to look at (when they're not stuck on scenery). They have something there. I hope it gets better!

It's pretty janky and basic to play - jumping feels bad, climbing animations trigger at stupid times, parasailing looks kind of silly, you can tell they cared way more about animating the 'Pals' than about animating the human characters - and, while I'm definitely having a certain level of fun with it, I just keep on being baffled that it still exists.

On the other hand, Dumud is my precious sweetie and I refuse to go anywhere without him galumphing along beside me being a big dumb squelchy baby.

I think Palworld is an exceptionally stupid but good game

All the original designs are bangers but it's really funny when you can say "oh it's a Zoroark, oh it's Eevee, oh it's a Shaymin!" but it's even funnier when you notice some parts of the map are heavily referencing Elden Ring and the gameplay is literally JUST ARK: Survival Evolved with Genshin bosses. Can't say the dungeon caves are pulling from any game tho, they're genuinely really good, fun and great for resources. This game does so many things at once that you'd think it wouldn't fit or be bland but no. No this is literally 2024 GOTY for me. also everyone say "Hi Jupiter"

Fun fact: Did you know ARK: Survival Evolved shares many similarities to COD Zombies? Somehow? Despite one being about shooting Cthulhu with a 12-gauge, and the other being COD Zombies?

-Story centers around an element linked to eldritch and/or evil influences.

-Space bases all over the fucking place.

-Evil entity linked to the digital plane and/or electricity.

-Time travel, technically.

-A looping timeline, technically.

-Killing god with the power of Friendship, a walkthrough, and 12 tonnes of ammo.

-Randomly has famous actors' likenesses.

-Ray guns for no reason in particular

As far as Palworld goes, shooter isn’t really a genre that comes to mind. Gameplay wise, it’s closer to something like Ark survival evolved

Why do people get excited over new AAA game releases? Hell, why do people preorder? I feel like most of the games released recently have been awful in someway or another. whether it’s bad gameplay, buggy mess, or absolutely unoptimized (or a combination of all three). They’re like Ark: survival evolved but with out the unique gameplay and world. At least ark has an excuse for why it is today (it was made on a custom version of UE that didn’t have LTS, plus the devs were inexperienced and more or less tried their best) but all these games don’t. They’re made by massive AAA studios. Tbh if you want new games, console is just better. I’m jsut going back to my classic games.
