I'm on a flight to Tokyo, and I'm definitely going to stand out amongst the locals... what should I do?
I always have the greatest respect for visits to Asian countries myself. So it's more than natural that you need support. I myself have had very good experiences with a preset that I am sending you. I recommend that you activate the preset as soon as possible, the transformation is set to last 12 hours.
Okay, it's exemplary that you had your cell phone in flight mode, so the message only reaches you after the plane is already on the tarmac on its way to the terminal. With your seatbelt still fastened, you activate the default setting. After the first few seconds, the first effect becomes apparent. The tension is gone. This is not the first time you have landed in Haneda. Only tourists and fools jump up and open the luggage compartments before the seatbelt signs have gone out. You are disciplined. Discipline is the only way to survive a juggernaut like Tokyo. You know that. The idiots around you don't.
You say goodbye to the person sitting next to you. You say goodbye to the flight crew when you leave the plane. In broken Japanese. You struggle with the language. Even though you've been learning it for over a year. At least you recognize a few of the characters at the airport. At least you can understand fragments of the conversations around you. And you know your way around the airport. Even if you're not the first to jump on, you're one of the first at the baggage carousel. It pays to have a Japanese ID card. Wait a minute! A Japanese ID card? Sure, you've been living here for years. Tokyo is your second home. Naturalization was only logical. You have a Japanese great-grandmother. That made it easier. You inherited your black hair from her.
You look at the people with the big suitcases with pity. They're either going to waste a fortune on cabs now. Or they'll have real problems on the train during rush hour. You've packed efficiently. And your advantage is that you stand out from the crowd. 190 cm… That makes you a giant in Japan. And a colossus at 120 kg. When you finally take the steps from the subway into the open air, the default setting has already been active for three hours. You walk the last few meters to your hotel. It's so nice to be back here. Yes, you actually live in London. But you spend as much time as you can in Tokyo for business and pleasure. For years now. You speak the language very well, you're up to date with all the fashions and gossip. And a regular guest here at the hotel. The concierge addresses you by name. You greet him back by name. Nevertheless, you exchange business cards. Tradition is tradition. The building trembles. A slight earthquake.You don't know how many earthquakes this is in your life. Now a quick bowl of noodle soup. And then to the gym. You've spent too much time motionless on the plane and in the subway. You need action now. The feeling that your body has given its last. So the thing is I wasn’t going to comment on the sixth episode. I just got home from a hella good play and I’m tired so I relax with Star Trek but holy shit

- what no no bring Sulu back. That was such a good delivery of lines I am so
- this episode shows the power imbalance between Kirk and Janice and that messaging could be more powerful if they really wanted. Like showing how Janice felt forced to say she was okay with it and wouldn’t tell anyone because it was the captain I feel was a big step to take in the 60s (because it was rarely if ever talked about especially on tv) but it still wasn’t enough and was treated horribly in the end. They brush off her experience and also let Kirk be near her which is not okay. I know they wouldn’t but I wish they’d actually addressed the fact that Kirk can pretty much get away with anything and the crew wouldn’t/couldn’t stop him unless they deem it truly necessary (which would be way to far)
- I think the Kirk stuff could be more impactful
- some of those close ups on Kirk are crazy
- Bones is so damn worried about him in the transporter room
- SPOCK IS STRESSED AND HE HESITATES
- “the imposters back where he belongs, forget him” but isn’t the thing is that he is you? Like he’s still there and apart of you, Kirk

Let's discuss the headcanon that devil fruit users heal quicker. It's not canon (that we know of) but I think it's a logical and fun thought.
We know devil fruit users are human but I personally love to think that there's benefits that we don't see. Higher stamina, quicker healing, sturdier bones, tougher skin, etc.
The human body is incredibly adaptable and I would think the devil fruits would alter the body in a way that would help the user survive. Plus I feel like it's not going to give you a badass power up without making sure that you can handle it.
So with that thought, how does it feel as a devilfruit user when you heal quickly and your crew does not?
Let's go a little further with the strawhat crew.
Zoro, Usopp, and Nami are human. They're not devil fruit users, they have no genetic advantages, and they have no modifications.
They are human in a way that the rest of the crew is not.
So I like the idea of Zoro, Nami, and Usopp having their own little bond. Taking a little longer to completely heal, more prone to bruises, more likely to scar, the ones that get sick easiest or most frequent, etc.
Like devilfruit users around the sea. It's nothing to be ashamed of, just something to be aware of.
Humanity is something powerful to bond over. Power and weakness are also, both very powerful things to bond over.
I think devilfruit users have an understanding between them all that comes from being a devil fruit user.
The feeling of losing the touch of the sea
The vulnerability of being surrounded by something beyond your control
The knowledge that you are a threat in a way someone without a devil fruit will rarely be
So it makes sense that it goes the opposite way too.
Non devil fruit users also have a understanding between each other.
They hold the promise of safety and of bearing the touch of the sea when devil fruit users cannot
They are familiar with the risk of being discarded.
For example: Luffy could learn how to be a swordsman if he wanted to. He may not have the training or natural talent but he could still be very good if he decided to really commit. Zoro can never learn how to be rubber.
Killer can never learn how to control metal
Penguin can never learn how to manipulate space
Thatch could never have learned how to be a phoenix
Tashigi can never learn how to become smoke
Deuce could never have learned how to become fire
So on like that.
I feel like that would be kind of scary sometimes...How easily you could potentially be replaced. How easily you could become obsolete.
Of course, that doesn't stop anyone. They all work to improve, to be needed and wanted. They all have dreams and motivation to be better. To be the best.
There's also that unrelenting trust between crew members that allows someone the safety net of being able to fail, get back on your feet, and try again.
With the strawhat crew, we know that most of the crew will be the best or is the best at what they do.
However, I think there's always going to be that feeling that someone is right at your heels and getting even closer.
There will be other swordsmen. There will be other navigators. There will be other sharpshooters.
Zoro, Nami and Usopp understand that. And the crew is close enough to know that even when they're old and the world starts to bring forth younger people to replace them, they will always be the best to Luffy and each other.
I just think this would be a fun trio to explore.

Tenoch was feeling incredibly wound up. Four months of filming with you and he was fully and undeniably attracted to you. From the way you smiled at him to the way he could always smell your perfume in the makeup trailer in the morning. Everything about you was playing on his mind. But you were also so hard to read.
The problem wasn't that you were closed off or even shy. It was that you treated everyone equally. You knew everyone's name and if you didn't you made a point to ask. You gave out compliments freely, remembered small details, and never forgot anyone's birthday. You greeted everyone with a hug or a kiss unless they said not to. Then you made an effort to find out a comfortable way to greet them that they now fondly accepted.
If he hadn't seen you act with open affection with everyone else he may have believed you returned his attraction. You of course had spent most of your time and scenes with him the last few months as you filmed this movie together. The chemistry you shared translated into your characters and Tenoch found it easy to act out being in love with you. You were affectionate with him and seemed to enjoy his company.
So far you had only filmed a couple brief kissing scenes. While you kept it light hearted and comfortable between takes, Tenoch was fighting his urge to kiss you longer, rougher, and more passionately each time.
The way you would look at him while you filmed a scene could make anyone fall in love. The trust, the adoration, and the lust were palpable. But the minute the director yelled 'cut' your eyes would shift back to an unreadable pleasantness that drove the actor insane. Even when the two of you, or even with a group, went out after a day of shooting he could not tell if you favored him at all.
The rehearsals leading up to the sex scene had been comfortable and playful between the two of you. Neither of you were embarrassed about nudity and you approached the whole situation with logic and communication. When Tenoch told you that he tended to run with the feelings of the scene rather than to choreograph every movement, you simply nodded and said you could adjust.
"So you wouldn't mind if it got more explicit? Like I put my mouth on your nipples while you say your lines about how we shouldn't continue?" Tenoch asked, teasingly.
You just smiled serenely, "That would actually fit your character, getting distracted from the risk because he finally gets to give into the mutual attraction."
Tenoch almost scoffed at how easily you had redirected, "He would want to go down on her. I'll have to get close depending on the angle."
"That's what the modesty tape is for. I'll definitely be pulling at your hair and scratching you but I'll try not to be too rough," You said as you laid back onto the bed on set. You were both dressed and there were crew milling about as they prepped for the shoot tomorrow. The intimacy coordinator had left awhile ago and the two of you had been discussing the shoot the next day in the bed it would take place in.
While major parts of the scene were choreographed, like when the bed would get involved, when clothes would come off, and what positions would ultimately be used, the rest was up to them. Tenoch was more experienced in these things, "Pull as hard as you want, and leave marks on my back if you like too. I think it will do wonders for the scene."
He was laying on his side with his head propped on his hand looking at you. Tenoch was admiring your profile as you reminded him that he was filming a pool scene in a couple days so you couldn't actually leave marks.
Tenoch scoffed, flipping onto his back so you both were staring up into the ceiling, shoulders touching, "Aye, that's what makeup artists are for. We should leave big read hickeys on each other and see whose make up artist does the best at covering it up."
You laughed lightly then it was your turn to turn to your side, prop your head up and admire his profile. You ran a finger down his forehead, the bridge of his nose, and then over his lip. He playfully nipped at your finger before you took a hold of his chin and made him look at you. "You're always so silly."
"And you're always so serious," He replied smoothly. Tenoch tried not to get lost in your eyes as you stared at him. The air shifted and the tension between you rose to a peak again. He did not want to think about how kissable you looked at the moment, "If we are going to be serious then we can. I don't think I have to remind you that if you ever feel uncomfortable or that the scene isn't going the way it should, then please stop me. We can always do another take. If you need a break or even just a moment to breathe, take it. I know that these kind of scenes can be taxing to shoot."
His sincerity touched you. You knew behind the suggestive jokes and the flirtatious attitude that Tenoch cared about your wellbeing and safety, "I know Tenoch. I trust you. I think it will turn out perfectly."
Tenoch was taken by surprise when you leaned over and kissed his cheek. You were sitting up before he could react. "Goodnight, Tenoch. I'll see you tomorrow. And for the record, no hickeys."
He watched you leave, putting a hand to his cheek and rubbed the spot where your lips had been. Tenoch sighed, you were really getting under his skin.

The next day, the shoot started bright and early at the studio. Not very sexy but with all the cameras, you didn't expect it to be. Hair and makeup were minimal and once all the physical prep was worked out it was time to start. You both naturally fell into your characters.
"You keep talking down to me knowing damn well I can leave you shaking and whimpering under me if you gave me the chance," Tenoch was speaking his line softly, you were only millimeters apart and you could feel his breath against your lips. The way he looked at you shook you to your core.
He grabbed your chin, "Do you want to give me that chance now? I have a feeling you like being put in your place."
The way he purred that last line set off something inside you and you tried not to be embarrassed or self conscious about feeling yourself getting aroused. You had been doing so well being professional with him, still your close and affectionate self but with a boundary. The kissing scenes were always a struggle for you, trying not to sink to deeply into the need and want for the man. This scene now would be your biggest hurdle to keeping your attraction a secret.
You met his gaze, "We shouldn't do this here."
You put a hand against his chest and pushed him back. He only moved slightly. His hand covered yours on his chest. You watched him as he looked you in the eye and took your hand, placing it on his crotch. He took your chin and again got close enough to you that it was nearly a kiss, "Don't pretend you don't get wetter at the thought of someone finding you on your knees for me. Or better yet pinned to their bed while I fuck you."
Then his lips were on yours and you wrapped your arms around his neck. His hands roughly found the hem of your shirt and pushed it up to expose your bra clad breasts. As Tenoch found your neck, his hand pushed underneath your bra to palm your breast. You threw your head back and moaned a moan that wasn't acting.
You felt Tenoch pause for a moment then he pulled you in for another kiss that was only broken as he pulled his shirt over his head and yours followed. His hand found the back of your neck as his lips found you own again. With his other hand he tried to unhook your bra. His kissing faltered and then he let out a giggle against your lips. You opened your eyes as Tenoch pulled away. He was breathing heavily but had a goofy smile on his face.
"What?" You whispered, embarrassed at how breathy you sounded.
"I think your bra is stuck," Tenoch said loud enough for the crew to hear. The director yelled cut.
"It's alright Tenoch, Y/N that was nearly the end of that part anyway. Let's figure out why the bra is stuck and then we can reshoot that part from the other angles," The director turned to the crew to reset for the next angle.
Tenoch was a little red faced as he guided you to turn around. You felt yourself grow shy as the intimacy coordinator brought a towel over to give you some privacy as Tenoch figured out why your bra was stick.
"Ah, I got it. I'll put it back. There was a little extra loop and one of the hooks got caught. It should be okay for the next take," Tenoch said as he smoothed your bra back down and went to find the shirt he had tossed.
"That felt good I think," You tried to start an innocent conversation. You were sure that you looked a little flustered and hopefully not as needy as you felt. You took a look at all the crew and the cameras and tried to make yourself feel a little more embarrassed hoping it would but a damper on your arousal.
Tenoch now had his shirt back on, "Yea I liked when you pushed me away. That felt like a challenge. Was the boob grab too much?"
"No, no it was great, um fine. Yea it was fine. Now let's do it 4 more times," You tried to joke again. Tenoch was grinning at you and reminded you that you still hadn't put your shirt back on.
It was only 3 more takes of the lead up sequence and then it was time for the bed. There wasn't much dialogue during the journey between the wall and the bed, but there was a bit of coordination needed over when clothes would come off. Eventually you and Tenoch were laying on the bed naked except for the blanket you both were laying under for modesty, while the crew reset.
"How are you feeling?" Tenoch asked, turning on his side to look at you. You were unfortunately very aware that the modesty bandage between your legs was having trouble staying in place due to the moisture collecting there.
Your mind flashbacked to the last couple hours. The countless kisses, the skin on skin contact, the moans you released that weren't as much acting as you wanted them to be. You were annoyed with how flustered you were getting while it seemed like Tenoch was doing just fine.
"Hello, Y/N? Que pasa?" Tenoch asked as he waved his hand in front of your face.
You shook yourself out of your reverie, "U-um I'm fine, I just need to go to the bathroom."
You scooted to the edge of the bed and one of the assistants wrapped a robe around you and helped you to the bathrooms. The intimacy coordinator knocked on your dressing room door to find you sitting on the couch with your head in your hands. She rushed to your side, "Y/N, what's wrong? Is it too much? We can tell them to cut the shoot short today or we can change the scene?"
You let out a long groan, "It's nothing like that."
"Tell me how I can help you," She took a seat next to you and patted your back lightly, "What's bothering you?"
You looked at the compassionate face of the other woman, "You won't laugh?"
"Not unless it's really funny," She teased, you made a face but she reassured you, "I promise I won't laugh. Even if it's funny."
You hesitated then turned to your side and showed her the crumpled modesty bandage, "I-I got too wet."
"Oh honey, that's totally normal," She said taking the bandage and throwing it in the trash next to her, "You're a woman being very intimate with an attractive man. I was surprised you lasted that long. We have a ton more where that came from so we can bandage you up as many times as you need."
You felt your cheeks heat up and patted them to try to cool yourself, "It's embarrassing. I'm trying to be professional but it's just overwhelming."
The older woman rubbed a comforting hand up and down your arm, "Don't be embarrassed. Just between you and me, Tenoch asked us to keep his socks in the cooler so whenever he had to get tucked again it would make him soft."
Your eyes widened and you couldn't help the amusement showing on your face, "Really?"
"You're both very attractive people with blazing chemistry. It's an extensive scene and the director is pretty specific with how many angles he wants. You've been going at it for hours. I'd be worried if he didn't need a little help to stay decent. The way he kisses you seems a bit more desperate than necessary. Lucky girl." Her voice was soothing and you felt better about your biological reaction. But now you were thinking about Tenoch getting hard from kissing and touching you. "Come, Y/N, we will get you bandaged up again and then we can finish up the shoot.

Tenoch was left in the bed by himself as you went to handle your business. He shifted uncomfortably, adjusting the hard on that was raging while strapped to his leg with a sock and bandage. He hoped you hadn't felt him during the last couple takes. The actor was at his wits end after spending hours essentially doing foreplay and hearing your moans.
Whenever the cameras were cut you reverted back to yourself so quickly that Tenoch almost felt a little insulted. But he had noticed the darkening of your eyes and the swift rubbing of your legs together when you thought he wasn't looking. He was finally having some effect on you. There was only one scene left and he was actually looking forward to the exquisite torture to come to an end. At least in his hotel room alone he would be able to relieve himself.
"Hey, can we change the sock?" Tenoch asked one of the assistants who hurried over to a cooler and handed him the necessities. The actor took care of the switch under the sheets, not caring that the crew was walking around. The coldness of the sock slipping on made him hiss but his erection finally died down again.
"You ready?" You asked him, having made it back to your side of the bed.
"Always, hermosa," Tenoch replied with a grin. He watched as you took your robe off and slid back into bed with him. "Are you sure you're okay?"
When you looked at him he saw a flash of amusement. He watched as your eyes roamed his naked shoulders and chest, landed on his lap then shot straight back up to meet his eyes, "Never better, handsome."
The director called for places as they started the next take. Tenoch pushed the sheet down as he got on top of you. His hand found your breast as he slotted himself between your legs. dre has been fucking killing it as figure this season. that scene with palisade was really good. saying “this feels like a metaphor” about playing duck (lmao) was exceptionally funny because that is always true about figure all of the time

i do feel like i understand eclectic better now. we’ve gotten a few more flags: he believes in welcoming people who help him; he feels that divines are too much of a risk; he sees the cause as taking over palisade. (it is also kind of touching that he’s so insistent that they adopt a random lock & cross cop, specifically—i found that scene kind of frustrating, but it’s solid character work.)
we also learned this ep that brnine thinks they are the sexiest crew member (they’re right). however this leaves the question of who thisbe thinks is sexiest. assuming it was someone not already present in the scene but aboard the blue channel, that leaves hunting, midnite, or saffron. does thisbe think saffron is sexy?? i would believe that. she has the most physical forms, leaving aside phrygian (who i think murch said she thought was hottest?? wires??), so logically saffron could be attractive to the widest range of people. or thisbe just thinks she’s hot. i’d ship it.

Having put his people into the torpedoes he'd designed. Back when he'd done it, there hadn't been any other way available for him to try and smuggle them into safety - yet, with how the events unfolded in the end, part of him regrets that he's executed his own plan and, sadly, got discovered in the process, forcing him to leave them behind while escaping alone.
Having put himself as well as his crew into cryotubes to begin with. Back when all of them had been forced into exile, he'd planned for them to sleep a few years while their ship drifted through space, far away from earth, so as to allow them all to resume their lives at another point. That his own cryotube malfunctioned, didn't wake him up within the estimated timespan, he obviously didn't account for; Ten of his friends lost their lives because of that, and, in the end, Marcus found them over two hundred years after the Eugenic Wars had happened, resulting in the whole desaster that followed.
Phobias fears your character has:
The fear of losing someone he loves, either plantonic or romantic. Because of what he's gone through while being held hostage by Marcus, made to witness the death of two of his people caused by the Admiral's hands, Khan ever since experiences the overwhelming fear of being unable to keep someone safe and, therefore, lose them forever. Whoever gets close to him, he intents to protect, and he might become a bit overly protective because of his mentioned fear.
A mild 'fear' of doctors / scientists. It manifests less in actual fear but more in varying stages of discomfort; Because of what he went through as a child as well as under Marcus' command, he's not too fond of being handled by either of them.

Farscape rewatch ep 2x09: Out of their Minds

One of my faves and is a rare just plain hilarious ep which is just pretty wild and joyful, though even it manages to have that little heartbreaking moment with D’Argo and Pilot and it’s very on brand that logical talking solves nothing for Zhaan and she has to resort to violence.
But yeah, it’s a very hard ep to discuss, almost as hard to write about as it is fun to watch because what is there to analyze in a goofy, crazy ep where everyone switches bodies?

Of course, it says something that for the Moya crew, switching bodies with each other while on a ship about to be blasted to pieces counts as a good day. In a way it’s parallel to S1’s ‘Through the Looking Glass:’ near death and craziness and off-kilter stuff with a happy ending and we know the angst is about to hit, with the Gammak base and torture. (The same happens in S3. After the lovely, hilarious LoMo ep, it’s all angst from there. S4 doesn’t have that as the whole thing is pretty grim).

  I think OOTM is a wonderful acting ep: the actors must be having a blast and they are pulling off a really difficult feat, acting like each other, and they do it brilliantly. Ben Browder gets Rygel’s intonations down pat, Claudia Black’s imitation of Crichton’s guy mannerisms and the thumb to the mouth is awesome. And Anthony Simcoe’s body posture is spot-on Chiana.

  Another thing I love about this ep is that reactions of the characters are so spot on about what they would do in other people’s bodies but most shows would never go there: Rygel in John’s body needing to use the facilities, John in Aeryn’s body ‘trying out the equipment’ (I love that scene) etc etc. And of course, this ep reconfirms that Moyans listen to John more than to anyone else. Zhaan refuses to follow the plan to change them all back, until she thinks it comes from John (in reality Rygel in John’s body). Though Rygel does show unexpected depths when he talks about revenge being his goal. We forget often that he is a former Dominar, but he is. Hmmm, what else. Zhaan once again proves compassionate but ruthless when necessary. The ending is awesome. One of the funniest, most perfect ones. Chiana and D’Argo finally deciding to get it on:

Love D being bashful and Chi teasing and the dawning look of comprehension on John’s eyes as he watches him running after her. 
And ohhh, the sheer joy of the bit with John pretending to still be Rygel and then going ‘joke, Aeryn’ and she jumps on him and they wheel around the floor, laughing. So much giddy joy.

But yes, as I mentioned I so love that when characters switch bodies, the show brings up the stuff shows normally do not but would totally happen. Like Rygel needing to pee while in Crichton’s body and having no idea how and Crichton (in Aeryn’s body) having to walk him through it. Hilarious but also no other show would go there.

I always wondered what the status of their physical relationship before Look at the Princess was. The Bond
I miss writing about Charlie Cox characters and so I made a real long Vulcan Owen stories

Things weren't always easy between Y/N and Owen.
This might seem normal, because things had never been easy between Humans and Vulcans. Although Vulcans had a reputation for being logical beings, they could be very cold, insensitive, rude, and mean.
Faced with Humans, emotional, illogical, easily offended and prone to violence, this did not make a very good mix.
Fortunately some humans were calm enough to appreciate the Vulcans' attitude, and some Vulcans were intelligent enough to adapt to the difference of Humans.
Between Y/N and Owen, that should have been the case. Everyone in Starfleet thought so when Captain Kirk announced that these two new recruits were going to work with his crew.
Owen was a Vulcan like almost all Vulcans. Y/N was not a human like all humans. Without having followed Surak's teachings, she loved science and reflection, and with her intelligence, she demonstrated great rigor and logic in her work.
Her colleagues had a hard time with her. They could see that she wasn't mean, maybe a little shy, not knowing how to deal with them. It was still rare for her to make friends.
“It will probably be easier with a Vulcan.” one of her instructors had said.
It was worse with the Vulcan.
The first problem encountered was Owen's inexplicable habit of pointing out all her errors and omissions. It wasn't often, but whenever it happened, he was there to say so, without ever congratulating or complimenting her when, on the contrary, she was doing a good job.
“Do you know the quality of your work ?”
"Indeed."
“So I don’t see why I need to tell you about it when there’s nothing to add.” he decided, keeping a neutral expression. “But when you clearly cannot see that the quality is not acceptable, it is necessary for you to be informed.”
Y/N bit the inside of her cheek to keep from answering him. Because it was pointless, and because she knew he wasn't wrong. She didn't want his compliments anyway, his opinion didn't matter.
She continued to take his criticism, letting Dr. McCoy and her other colleagues come to her defense when it became unbearable.
The second problem was that Y/N would have loved things to go well with Vulcans, and even more so with Owen. If she forgot the times when he opened his mouth to insult her work or her intelligence, he was much more interesting than most of the people on the ship.
Cultivated, clever, and very pleasant to look at.
They could have at least been friends if he had behaved differently, and she tried not to think that anything more than friends might have been an option either.
The last problem, the most important, occurred following an accident. This should never have happened.
If she could have, Y/N would have slapped Captain Kirk for his catastrophic management of crises, which he created himself most of the time, because of his need for adventure.
The ship had suffered a lot of damage from an attack, there had been a lot of injuries, including Owen, and Y/N hadn't thought when approaching him to help him.
As soon as she touched him, she knew she had made a mistake. One more.
Owen didn't tell her this time, watching her hand on his arm, which she quickly removed after an electric shock ran through her body, as well as a strange feeling in her head.
"We'll need a healer." he whispered.
"… The Medbay is full, but I can treat you here."
"No. I'm talking about our bond. It will need to be stabilized with a Vulcan healer."
"…Our bond ?" she asked, avoiding looking at him, not really wanting to hear what he was going to say, not wanting to understand.
"We are compatible. Your mind touched mine, and we are now bonded."
“And the healer can undo that ?”
"No. The bond seems strong, we are highly compatible. It would be risky. And after what happened to my planet, bonds are rare and precious."
The bond. Owen only spoke about this bond, and its importance, and never about her, about them, about feelings or that kind of thing that was obviously useless and illogical in his eyes. Nothing romantic, even though it seemed so strong.
Very strong according to the healer who examined them, stating that it was indeed a rare bond, formed without the help of a priest, and that it was impossible to undo.
This did not seem to bother Owen, who simply stated that he would use his shield as often as possible, to prevent their work from being disrupted by stray thoughts.
That's what she was in his mind, a parasite, who made mistakes, who risked compromising him with her base human instincts. He must have seen what she felt for him, this strange mixture of hatred and love, this desire to be closer to him.
Everyone congratulated them on their "marriage", which hurt her even more. So romantic. Y/N then discovered that a lot of people had noticed that she wasn't completely uninterested in Owen, which was worse than anything. A real humiliation.
She locked herself into work, preferring to stay alone the rest of the time. No one seemed to notice, her "husband" first, too busy with his own experiences.
Y/N told herself that she shouldn’t blame him. He hadn't asked for this bond, and he was acting the way his culture and species had always acted. She had inquired about it, she had discovered this shameful secret that was the pon farr. The only time he would come to touch her, if he didn't choose death through meditation.
At least, that was what she told herself until she saw Captain Kirk with Commander Spock in a corner of the ship.
They were kissing. The commander's cheeks were green, his eyes sparkling, as he whispered what sounded like tender words to the captain.
He was half human, but Spock had always acted according to Surak's principles. Vulcans were therefore capable of romance and proof of love. Owen just didn't like her. This had been obvious from the start. It was a real test to remain calm when he came to her to discuss a problem while checking her calculations, which seemed wrong, again.
"… These are not my calculations. They have been changed." she sighed as she read the report, staying as far away from him as possible and refusing to look at him.
"Really ? I'm going to ask to find out who made this mistake in this case. Can I see the original calculations ?"
"Here."
"Hmm. They are correct."
"Sorry you can't criticize me this time. Leave me now."
Except Owen didn't let her. He stood by her desk, staring at her with a weird look, and for a moment a strange feeling took over her body, something warm, almost comforting.
Then he approached, which made her step back, afraid when she saw that he had moved his hand in her direction.
"What are you doing ?"
"Ashayam… It appears you are troubled. Emotionally compromised. I can help you channel…"
"I don't want your help. I don't want anything from you, leave."
“Ashayam…” he repeated with an almost sad look, before greeting her and leaving the room.
This word was unknown to her. Ashayam. Another insult ? Y/N asked Uhura who seemed surprised by her interpretation, telling her that it was better that she asked Owen. She didn't, returning to her work.
On her desk, she found flowers. Odd. Probably a mistake, a prank, or her colleagues who saw that she wasn't doing well lately and who tried to cheer her up.
Then there were the chocolates. A ring. Science books. And finally a long parchment written in a language impossible to understand. In Vulcan.
Reading it, Commander Spock's cheeks turned green again, muttering that it was an old poem.
Y/N didn't know that Vulcans wrote poems, and she didn't understand why she had received one. It seemed absurd that Owen would offer her all this.
Her pride and curiosity being stronger than her fear, she finally decided to go see him, finding him in his room, reading. She placed the poem in front of him.
"Why ?"
"I do not understand your question." he said very honestly.
"Why all these gifts ? Why now ? You saw that this bond made me suffer and so what ? Are you pitying me ? I don't want your pity. I wanted to love you, really. I'm afraid that I love you a little to tell the truth, which is the worst mistake of my life, the stupidest thing I ever…"
"I love you too."
It was rare that Y/N didn’t know what to say. As a scientist and an intelligent woman, she always knew what she should say or do. But no one had taught her how to react to a Vulcan who told her that he loved her.
“I have loved you for a long time, without daring to declare myself.” he continued. "I didn't know if it would be reciprocated. Now I know that you love me too, I knew it when we touched, and our bond is an irrefutable proof. It was a great moment of joy. So intense that I needed a healer quickly to not lose my mind, then a lot of meditation to remain calm. I think of you all the time. So blinded that I did not perceive the rest, your unhappiness, the need for contact, of communication. You are psi-null, you did not perceive my feelings in return. If anyone made a mistake, it was me."
"… You criticize me all the time. You spend all your time showing me my mistakes !"
"It is important to see your mistakes in order to correct them and not do them again. Most of them are due to fatigue and overwork, not of lack of intelligence from your part. If I didn't know you were clever, I wouldn't even have try to show them to you. But my primary goal was for you to rest, in addition to having an excuse to see you. I… I must have expressed myself incorrectly. As with the rest. I am now trying to repair my faults, Ashayam, but I can't find the right method. It says here 'if you love them, let them go', but I don't understand the meaning of the sentence. What can I do to make you happy ?"
It wasn't a book for his work that he was holding. Like her, Owen was reading up on Terran culture in order to know how to properly court Y/N. He had also asked their colleagues for advice, which hadn't really helped him because they all said something different.
There was nothing logical about love, the poor guy was lost. He might have known what to do if he had thought less, but he seemed afraid of what he might do. He still wanted her happiness. He loved her.
He loved her.
"… A kiss would be a good start." Y/N whispered.
Owen looked at her, as if to determine if she was serious, before nodding, standing up to come towards her, and holding out two fingers. She looked at his hand with a frown.
"Uh… Yes ?"
“I'm initiating a kiss.”
“I see a lot of fingers and not a lot of lips.”
“Lips ?” he repeated, frowning as well. "Oh. A Terran kiss. My apologies, I didn't understand, Ashayam."
"What does that mean ?"
“Beloved.”
Without giving her time to process what he had just said, he pressed his mouth to hers, obviously unaware of how to act, but doing his best. As soon as their skin touched, the pleasant feeling returned, Y/N's body immediately relaxing and moving as close to Owen as possible, one hand on his neck, and the other on his cheek. He imitated her, letting himself be guided.
He was shaking a little, his breathing quickening as Y/N kissed him really hard, sucking on his lips, searching for his tongue, and letting her hands roam his back. Quickly, she found herself against a wall, Owen abandoned her mouth to nibble on her neck. One of her moans unfortunately seemed enough to stop him.
"… I need to meditate."
“It was a good start though.”
"I need to meditate. I have to conduct an experiment in a few hours."
“That gives us a lot of time."
“Ashayam, if I don’t meditate, we won’t leave this room for several days.”
Oh ? Oh.
Y/N was a little disappointed, but she was still a professional, bowing to the importance of sience over everything else. So she left him, even if she couldn't help but kiss him on the cheek before leaving while he was already in a meditation position, which made him groan.
In the corridor, she passed Commander Spock and Uhura, who showed a big smile.
"I see you've been talking to Owen."
“Indeed, why ?”
“You should zip up your collar.” Spock said simply, looking down.
In the reflection of a window, Y/N saw the small bite marks and hickeys that the Vulcan had left, which she hid with her hand while stammering, while Uhura chuckled gently, patting her shoulder.
"They can be bestial and possessive, like cats. Be careful, they are much more sensitive than they let on."
"Nonsense."
"Kirk tells me almost everything, Commander."
"… Please excuse me, I need to speak to the Captain."
“Speak, or speak like Owen with Y/N ?”
Commander Spock growled, which actually made Uhura laugh, giving Y/N a chance to run away before the linguist had time to ask her questions.
In the end, things were pretty simple between Y/N and Owen. They were two scientists with very poor social skills, in love, respecting each other's work and abilities, and living proof that it was perfectly possible to be intelligent and stupid.

Chapter 1: “Trip to Liyue”

“Why is Beidou keen on drinking right now?” You asked as you both watched her down a bit of wine. “She can drink a lot as much as she wishes. But to be telling the truth I didn’t expect her to do so currently.” Kazuha replied before looking back towards the sea. “Anyways, what do you do on these trips Kazuha? I rarely see you off this ship or you’re in liyue.” You asked curious of the man’s ways to past time.“Well I usually make poems in my spare time. Sometimes I’m playing the leaf, do you think I should add more ways to deal with time?” He asked, waiting for your input. Facing your direction.“Well I-I umm.” You said as you thought of a way to phrase what’d you’d try to say towards the Kaedehara. “Let me put it like this. What else do you find Fun that I might find fun? I know we both have a fondness for reading as you make poems while I help publish books.” “Well maybe we can do something that you find interesting.” He suggested putting one hand on his hip as he watched your tail swish slowly.”Oh! I know. What about Genius-Invokation TCG!” You said using a finger to show you remembered.
(Like faruzan is always doing. I swear if you thought of us flipping him off I would never.)
“What’s Genius-Invokation TCG?” He asked, one hand on his chin as he tried to reminisce about hearing it, to no avail he couldn’t.”It’s a card game! I could teach you how to play. You can borrow one of my decks. I’m sure you heard beidou and the crew talk about it. Right?” You asked, your direction of view going towards the captain for a brief moment.
She seemed to be dueling someone at the moment. “you see those two? They’re both playing it. We can go watch their match real quick and then I can show you how to play. It’s super exciting to watch! The tables can turn at any moment!” You said, turning your view back to him. Letting them process what you had told.
“I’ll admit you do have good taste Y/N, it does look fun and enjoyable from here, seeing the expression of both of them they seem to be enjoying it.” The Kaedehara stated considering the offer.
“Alright I’ll watch with you. I admit I’m very curious of new things and this is new.” He said as you both went up the stairs watching the duel play out.

More from the band au? 👀 Yes, yes, of course. We're five chapters in and going strong. You'll all hate me, I'm so excited.
"Soon if you have anything to say about it," launches Lily, not looking amused, but Sirius smirks. "Why can't any of you be like Remus? He hasn't moved since he sat down. I haven't had to chase him once!"
Sirius glances over to the seating area where Remus is indeed relaxed at one end of the small sofa, the phone Lily had given them all a few years before held in his hand, looking perfectly content with where he is. Remus is the only one of them that had really mastered the device at all, Sirius rarely using his own, though he did have a fondness for YouTube.
"Moony is an entirely different species. He came out of the womb calm and ready to please," says Sirius as he turns back to Lily and lifts the wrap back to his mouth. "Count yourself lucky that you've got him and accept your fate with the rest of us."
Lily snatches the wrap from his hand before he can take another bite and glares at him as Sirius squawks indignantly. He tries to grab it back, but Lily holds it out of his reach behind her.
"Sirius," she says, his name long and suffering on her tongue, "you have five minutes until this interview starts. Please – I am begging you – go and sit down."
"But – "
"You'll get this back once you're finished," snaps Lily, waving the wrap at him a bit viciously. A piece of cheese flaps its way loose, Sirius dodging it as it flies through the air. "Go."
Sirius grumbles under his breath but relents, beginning to venture towards the others. He glances back in enough time to see Lily take a bite from the wrap and Sirius scowls at her distrustfully, but the woman only points her finger, her green eyes dancing. He sulks over to the seating area, plopping down on the sofa beside Remus. Sirius studies him for a second, the other not glancing up and only acknowledging his presence by the subtle incline of his head. He leans sideways, his arm winding across the back of the sofa behind Remus' head as he peers over his shoulder at the phone, balking a bit.
"Are you reading, Moony?" he murmurs low enough so that no one else can hear him. "I should have known."
Remus hums faintly, the corners of his lips quirking upwards in the beginnings of a smile. "Keeps Lily from hexing me," he responds distractedly.
"Lily never wants to hex you." Remus waves the phone around a bit as indication, one eyebrow arching pointedly, and Sirius snorts. "Not a chance. Anything I use that thing for would only make her want to lock me away somewhere, and we can't have that, can we? Why not an actual book? I'll never understand reading on those things."
Remus finally glances up at him, all half-focused brown eyes like he's still trying to come back to reality. "It's difficult to pack a book around everywhere we go, you know that," he says logically. "Besides, this way, there's no chance of me forgetting about it and leaving it behind somewhere."
Sirius scoffs lightly, leaning a little closer and nudging at Remus' phone until he rolls his eyes and stows it away from sight. "Need I remind you that you're a wizard," he whispers with a grin. "That's what shrinking charms are for. Make books fit perfectly in your pocket. And you never forget or lose anything, Remus. Be serious."
Remus' smile widens as Sirius speaks, his distraction clearly fading away. "That's you," he murmurs, and Sirius beams, his mouth opening to respond, but he's interrupted by the crew assembling and beginning to count them down. Sirius huffs and shifts away from Remus a little, turning to face forward again.
The interview starts the way they all do, with greetings and light banter, the foursome joking easily with the man quizzing them about their new album and future touring plans. James and Sirius take the helm, easily slipping into their roles, Peter speaking up when he feels like it, always charismatic and effortlessly charming with his lazy smiles and exuding warmth. Remus says the least of them all, but people seem to have grown used to that by now, their fans fawning over him for that aspect alone.
"This album is shaping up to be your best yet," compliments the man in front of them. Sirius has already forgotten his name. "Released barely a week ago and it's already topping all the charts, skyrocketing in a blaze. That must feel good. And Scatter the Shadows is quickly becoming your most downloaded song to date." Sirius squirms a bit, making it look as though he's only readjusting in his seat, the man's eyes turning towards him. "Sirius. I understand you wrote all the songs for this album."
"He did, but that's not unusual," speaks up Remus, sounding proud. "He writes most of our songs."
The man across from them hums in acknowledgement, his eyes shifting between them before flickering to James and Peter. "A talented man, so we've all heard. Though, you all are, aren't you?" he says brightly, his smile all teeth. "There is a bit of the album I'd like to talk about right now, if that's amenable. The little bonus at the beginning of Scatter the Shadows. It sounded like you lot were having loads of fun."
James laughs, leaning back in his chair, balancing his ankle over one knee. "We were, yeah," he admits, humored. "Marlene, our producer, loved it. Convinced us to include it on the album."
"I'm sure you have loads of moments like that," encourages the man, tilting his head curiously.
"All the time," voices Sirius. "It's one of the great things about doing something like this with your best mates. It's not work or some sort of slog. It's just living and being."
"That's incredibly deep. Quick, write it down for a new song!" exclaims the man enthusiastically, and Sirius refrains from rolling his eyes. "But turning more serious now – no pun intended – " Sirius bites the inside of his cheek even as Remus nudges him with his elbow. " – this particular bit we're discussing is a curious thing. Some astute fans of yours managed to pick something out of it that's raised a lot of questions. I was wondering if you'd elaborate?"
His eyes are fixed solely on Sirius, causing his skin to itch beneath the surface, a prickle of unease rising. Sirius arches his eyebrows, and the man smiles effusively.
"Let's play it for you so that we're all on the same page," says the man, nodding to someone off-set.
The recording blares loudly, their four voices laughing around them. James is bickering with Peter good-naturedly, Sirius lobbing out insults from the background. He can hear Remus grumbling vaguely about needing new friends, but then the sounds change, the main voices distorting, like whoever is controlling the volume has focused in on whispers, and Sirius' plastered smile falters, turning to a frown as Remus stiffens beside him.
Fuck.

we find ourselves in the Wild West of space, where outlaws and criminals can do whatever the hell they want while those supposedly in charge look the other way to protect their own interests
Captain Leonore “Leo” Callisto of the Siren leads a small crew doing various gigs and odd jobs for people all around the sector. yknow, smuggling shit, stealing shit, selling stolen or rare shit, etc
but after the team’s spy, Zeya (who Leo was showing favoritism to for No Particular Reason) takes off with a shitton of money after a spat with Leo, the rest of the crew, no longer trusting Leo’s judgement, decides to ditch her as well, save 2 loyal but very inexperienced members: engineer Gabriola “Gabi” Franco and the crew’s muscle Euna Li

while searching for work on Space Kijiji, Leo comes upon an offer from a rich, eccentric art collector calling themself the Curator, offering a large money reward to steal a statuette from the House of Dyonas, a powerful and wealthy family on the planet Vihelda that passes along wispy purple telekinesis powers from generation to generation
the statuette is one of the two Gemini Statuettes, which are believed to depict a pair of twins in the Dyonas family from a few generations ago, but the House Head, Andlyn Dyonas, refuses to sell, so the most logical thing to do is to pay someone to steal it, as one does
strapped for cash, Leo accepts, even tho the House of Dyonas is notoriously hard to get into (she has a few tricks up her sleeve ofc, including getting one of the Dyonas House Heirs, the runaway Illiana, to help her)
BUT as she and her tiny ragtag crew embark on this quest, they quickly learn that they’re not the only ones with their eyes on this prize, and ~someone~ on a quest to sabotage them always seems to be a step ahead 👀

so Kalen did *stuff* to secure her position and forced Illiana to go on the run and hide out in what is essentially Space Las Vegas under an alias
she gets roped into the heist to help them get into the House of Dyonas, although she is very reluctant to go back there (but is very tired of washing dishes in some dingy Space Vegas bar)
she will get her loyalties tested in more ways than one <3

his dark materials fusion thoughts
so, I'm gunna give everybody a quick rundown of how daemons work, without getting into Dust and all that shit: physical manifestation of your soul but carried+protected outside the body by a shapeshifting creature that has a personality that reflects or mirrors or compliments yours, the shapeshifting usually "settles" around/during puberty into one shape, the creature usually presents as the binary opposite to your gender (which has interesting implications for trans and NB people) and only very very very rarely can be the same gender as the human, any pain inflicted on you or on your daemon is felt by both of you (and physical touch to your daemon is both painful unless under apparently very specific circumstances and considered majorly taboo unless between parent and very young child or between the most emotionally intimate/emotionally close people) (it also just feels generally wrong/disgusting for people to touch other people's daemons unless under those circumstances) (daemons touching other daemons seems to be fine, on par with a human touching another human, but still rare and usually done in greeting or more often between close friends). Humans require close physical proximity to their daemons at all times (usually between physically touching and maybe 3 meters or 10 feet). Being too far away from your daemon causes extreme distress and pain for both parties until reunited. Daemons and humans can be "separated"-a state in which a human and daemon can have any amount of physical distance between them whenever they like for however long they like. The circumstances of separation seem to be: a ritual in which a daemon cannot cross a barrier but the human can which leads to the bond 'stretching', or extreme trauma of some kind (mental, emotional, physical, a combination, etc). Separation is also seen as unnatural/strange/taboo and a sign of magic or some sinister characteristic of the human involved.
I like to think that One Piece's devil fruit interact very weirdly with people's Daemons and the consumption of a devil fruit causes separation. For the purposes of my personal AU-every devil fruit user is separated from their daemon. This, I think, should be because the daemon DOES NOT share the ability of whatever devil fruit their human consumed-to protect their human's soul, the daemon stretches the bond so that the fruit does not touch the soul and potentially corrupt it in some way. This is part of the price of eating the devil fruit-you can't swim, you can't touch seastone, and your daemon now removes themself from you (in however minor a way, separation doesn't seem to really mean a whole lot in terms of how the relationship between human and daemon continues to work).
and now onto my personal Whitebeard Pirates daemon headcanons
Marco has a secretary bird named Halatraea (Hala for short), classy lady with a very stern, no nonsense, very precise and obsessive-for-details personality. Her voice is Marco's inner critic and logic, hers is the part of him that makes him plan out every possible bad what-if scenario so he can be prepared to do anything and everything at the drop of a hat. They've both stomped people and deamons to death. She likes to stay out on deck regardless of the time of day (hard to stretch her wings indoors, 2m wide) and roosts near the helm. People get paranoid that she's always watching the crew work (she is) and that she's tattling about every minor infraction to Marco (she is). Hala has been known to tolerate touch from Pops and, once their relationship develops, Ace (and possibly Sabo too if the MAS route).
Whitebeard has a massive grizzly bear, Tulip, with a grayed muzzle from age. She shares most of her personality traits with Edward, a jovial and thoughtful old woman who loves to hug and cuddle with other daemons. She tends to act like an unseparated daemon, sticking close to Edward as much as possible. When she isn't sitting pensively with Pops or pacing around the space where he is at the time, she's usually napping closeby. She's very tolerant of touch and welcomes the Commanders as well as former commanders/close friends of Whitebeard to pat her head (Big Mom in the distant past, Roger a few times, Whitey, Shanks got to pat her head exactly once as a kid)
Ace has Kotetsu, who is unsettled thanks to all the shit that happened to him as a kid (sabo, luffy, blue jam, all the shit with roger), but generally prefers the shape of a lynx. Kotetsu is less talkative than Ace and very watchful but is just as brash and reckless, showcased very prominently when they go into fights. He hates being touched, even by other daemons, and badly tolerates it from Tulip and very rarely Hala (and Luffy+Sabo's daemons, but their touch is the exception and not the rule). Unlike every other devil fruit user listed, Ace and Kotetsu were separated before Ace ate the mera mera no mi (due to the previously mentioned shit that also resulted in Kotetsu being unsettled even into adulthood).
Thatch has a Capuchin monkey delicately named Hina. She's very excitable and joyful, always chattering, and is Thatch's assistant in the kitchen. She doesn't actually care much about cooking, but she's very eager to help with anything Thatch is doing and has packed away the same knowledge as her human even if she doesn't employ it like he does. She prefers not to be touched, but will tolerate it from Pops and Izou.
Izou's daemon is a bamboo viper named Fuwa (fluff/fluffy). They both knew from a young age that the name would be ironic. Fuwa is fairly sedate and relaxed in personality and generally lives wrapped around Izou's neck, arms, or dozing curled up in the belt pouch of Izou's kimonos. They're not very chatty, but they do actively listen to their surroundings and will comment here and there. Fuwa does not like to be touched and tolerates, badly, it from Thatch and Pops.
Whitey Bay's daemon is a fox named Snixam. He is a reclusive, introverted, anxious little bastard who really prefers not to be seen. He and Whitey are separated despite Whitey not having a devil fruit specifically because Snixam is so shy and anxious. He rarely leaves Whitey's quarters (the only time he actively chooses to leave is during combat, all other circumstances are forced/coerced). He hates being touched, by anyone, and will badly tolerate affection from Tulip only.
Mala (OC, first officer of the first division, marco's right hand within the first division) has Zafus, a stoat. Excitable, distractable, and loves to leave little feety prints on the paperwork. Zafus also enjoys bugging/annoying larger daemons of those around them and playing with Mala's glasses chain.
Darla (OC, first officer of the 3rd division, Jozu's right hand) has Bishop, a large orangutan. Much like his human, he's a calm and steady presence who is not afraid to beat the fuck out of people. While he and Darla are not separated, they do have a bit of a looser leash than most people do and prefers to hang around and swing in the rigging above Darla. Any time they're on shore leave or Darla is running from place to place, he will ride around on her back like a giant backpack. During a fight he's right beside her and he's fucking up anyone who gets close by. Very tolerant of touch (specifically so he can kick ass with Darla) but generally prefers to be left alone.

What’s the lie your character says most often?
Quinn: Good old "I'm fine". She's rarely ever "fine" - she's always in pain, jealous of the people who aren't in pain, and pushing herself too hard in an attempt to keep pace.
Gia: She gives out fake names at coffee shops and similar places, since she's paranoid that HYDRA could still be tracking her. Logically it wouldn't matter what name she uses, if they're tracking her that's not going to stop them, but it still makes her uncomfortable to hear her name shouted out in a crowded room of strangers.
4. What’s a hobby they used to have that they miss?
Quinn: Parkour!! She'd do anything to get back to it
Gia: I feel like she'd really be the Ren Faire type - full historical outfits, elaborate improv with the hired crew, one year she even made a bunch of flower crowns and gave them out. She fell out of it after HYDRA, since there's no faires close enough to the city to warrant leaving her shop and she can't enjoy it with all the anxiety that crops up. (okay maybe this is just an excuse for her and Kate to go to a Ren Faire together since I think that would be so fun)
5. Can they cry on command? If so, what do they think about to make it happen?
Quinn: No. The only time she ever really cries is out of pain, and even then it's rare. She's really not a big crier.
Gia: If she really had to, she probably could - by thinking about the worst of her time in HYDRA, or the fact that her brother's probably still grieving her because she's too afraid to get back in touch. It's not exactly a skill she's practiced, though.
22. What simple activity that most people do / can do scares your character?
Quinn: Going down stairs. Going up stairs is fine most of the time, but going down stairs is both more painful and more dangerous, and she's anxious at the thought of putting her weight down wrong and tumbling all the way down.
Gia: Vacations, even day-trips like going to a zoo or museum in the city. She's got a lot of anxiety about being separated from her clover, so she rarely leaves her shop for longer than is strictly necessary.
26. How would they respond to being fired by a good boss?
Quinn: Hates authority with a burning passion, so no boss is ever a "good boss". Whatever she did to get fired, she probably deserved it, so she just goes out- though she nabs a few things on her way out and flips off the security cameras.
Gia: She's self-employed, but if she were in that situation she'd probably keep her composure just long enough to get back to her apartment and then spend an hour or two crying.
42. If invited to a TED Talk, what topic would they present on? What would the title of their presentation be?
Quinn: She's more likely to pick something completely at random and just bullshit her way through until someone tries to call her out on it. There are topics she could legitimately present on, but where's the fun in that?
Gia: Something to do with botany or flowers - maybe a discussion on why grass lawns are detrimental to the environment, and what alternatives are healthier for the native flora and pollinators?
44. What language would be easiest for them to learn? Why?
Quinn: Hm... I like to think that she picked up a bit of Punjabi from one of her nurses, while she was in that long stint in the hospital - he knew she got uncomfortable with the needles, treatments, etc. and would teach her words and phrases in Punjabi as a distraction. If she put her mind to learning it fully, she's already got a bit of a head start.
Gia: Greek. She doesn't speak Greek herself, but her family is ethnically Greek and she's heard it spoken here and there growing up.
48. Who would they say ‘yes’ to if invited to do something they abhorred / strongly didn’t want to do?
Quinn: Honestly... nobody. In theory, Billy, but he knows her well enough that he wouldn't ask her to do those things in the first place.
Gia: Unless it involves her physical health or safety... she's a bit of a pushover, and would say yes to just about anyone who puts up a convincing argument.

Spotlight On: Persona Non Grata (2003)

In 2003, Oliver Stone directed an HBO documentary on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict during the Second Intifada. The film follows Stone's interviews with Israeli prime ministers past and present Benjamin Netanyahu, Shimon Peres and Ehud Barak. Also interviewed are Hasan Yosef of Hamas, the (masked and anonymous) leader of the al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigade and random citizens of both sides. There's also a Michael Moore-esque subplot about the quest to secure an interview with Palestinian president Yasser Arafat, which results in only a brief superficial meeting.
Stone's film crew arrived in Jerusalem on March 23, 2003 but spent a significant chunk of time filming in Ramallah, West Bank until Israel launched surprise attacks against the city. We watch onscreen as the shocked crew views live news coverage and a political liaison reports to Stone that Israel does not care about the safety of the crew or famous American director and will not grant safe passage. Cameras document the production unit finally fleeing through the Qalandia checkpoint, thanks to a last-minute intervention and escort from the Canadian embassy. (The U.S. "didn't do shit" for them, Stone summed up later.)
Typical of the severe cinéma vérité style of Stone's early documentaries, Persona Non Grata plunges viewers into the conflict immediately with little history or context. At this time, Stone did not make his nonfiction for beginners. There is little text onscreen, mainly just identifying the interviewees by name. Subjects are allowed to speak at length without interruption and the conversations are rarely edited into soundbites. The constellation of crew and cameras which surround Stone and his subjects are always visible. The film doesn't take obvious sides, though at points it's clear that Stone - a former soldier of the empire who fought against a guerrilla insurgency - is more comfortable with the guerilla Palestinian fighters than the pious Israeli politicians in suits.
Oliver Stone's own Jewishness is never mentioned in the documentary, though it's interesting and somewhat fraught. According to his memoir Chasing the Light, Oliver's paternal family was full of learned rabbis (originally from Poland) who disliked leaving their enclave in New York's Upper West Side. Oliver's grandfather, Joshua Silverstein, was the wealthy owner of New York's Star Skirt Company until he sold it and invested the proceeds in the stock market shortly before the October 1929 crash. The family fortune was destroyed. Still reeling from that disaster, Oliver's father, Abraham Silverstein, was then so deeply scarred by the rampant antisemitism of the 1930's that he changed his name to the more "American" Louis Stone. According to Oliver, his father was repulsed whenever he encountered the Orthodox Jewish community in New York, believing they made themselves open targets, and he frequently told his son to hide his Jewishness identity because "the pogroms will come back" and "they" were waiting to take little Jewish children like him. 
In that environment, young Oliver was never given an education in Judaisum and, in the early 1990s, he became the devout Buddhist he remains today. That was also the decade when Stone met and became business partners with Arnon Milchan, the former Israeli spy turned film producer. Milchan brought Stone on his first trip to Israel and Stone would visit the country a few more times, most recently last summer to receive a lifetime achievement award from the Jerusalem Film Festival. Milchan's ardent Zionism did not rub off on Stone, who's gotten in hot water over the years for openly criticizing Israel's foreign policy, specifically AIPAC. 
So what is Persona Non Grata? I think it's a weary reflection of its director's ongoing struggle with conflict and violence. As a two time Purple Heart recipient and Army combat veteran, Oliver Stone has devoted most of his career to grappling with himself as both a victim and perpetrator of violence. Nearly being killed - and becoming a killer - in the service of what he later discovered was a racist, colonial war in Vietnam remains his primal wound. (It's also likely why he's so nonplussed about being in a war zone surrounded by tanks and snipers.)
The film's title (Latin for "unwelcome person") is a deliberate choice. Is it referencing Stone himself and his attempts to interview Arafat, or to Arafat, or to the Palestinians, or to the Israeli leadership? Maybe all of them. Of course there's no real ending to the documentary, because how could there be. Old soldier Oliver Stone wanted to observe this never-ending conflict and so he came, he saw, and he sighed in resignation.

Some kind of character analysis thing (bear with me, I’m bad at these) TLDR at the end
Callie is upbeat and hyperactive, shown in many of her live performances where she is just jumping around for seemingly no reason, just because she’s so excited. She is usually quite silly and goofy too, and you can tell that she enjoys drawing energy out of the crowd and flipping it right back to them. Rarely is she shown without a smile, unless something catches her by surprise. Though more often than not, she’s the one doing the surprising. Marie is sarcastic and laidback. She isn’t as active as Callie (compare the choreo of Bomb Rush Blush and Low Tide). She prefers to be more chill, but dances with Callie when they’re doing one of their routines together. In the beginning, she rarely even smiled during her performances, but that was most likely a part of her charm, her “signature thing” if you will, as a tv personality and idol. Overtime, she began to smile more and show more emotion in general. I do notice that that started around when it was no longer her main job anymore (no more hosting the news and the current Splatfest performances in Splat 3 which she and Callie don’t host anymore), but that is irrelevant at the moment.
Pearl is loud and unapologetic. She knows who she is and what she stands for and she isn’t afraid to express that. She grabs the attention in a room flawlessly, shown especially in her live performances in which she is constantly calling out to the crowd in the middle of songs to hype them up. She clearly lives up to the role of an MC. She’s also shown to randomly bust out in rhymes sometimes, which likely means she practices her raps the moment the inspiration strikes, regardless of where she is or what situation she’s in, again showing how unapologetic she is and her confidence. Marina was once shy and reserved due to her origins, but after meeting Pearl, she became way more confident in herself. The way she dances and carries herself in the live performances shows how much she has changed and become comfortable in who she is and what she loves to do. She loves Pearl’s energy and will always bounce it back with her. After all, Pearl’s contagious and loud energy is what led Marina to become more confident herself. She is logical and strategic due to her upbringing. She easily analyzed and formulated a plan to take down the NILS statue in barely a minute. But she is also humble, never boasting too loudly about her large skillset. Maybe this is in part because of how she gained those particular skills, but I also think it is just in her nature to be humble in her achievements, even though she certainly isn’t humble in the way she dances.
Frye is also very confident in themself and highly competitive. They always see themself as on top and won’t bother with anything they think isn’t worth it. They seem to see themself as a leader, as shown when they invite Agent 3 to join their crew before engaging in battle (assuming “crew” here refers to Deep Cut of course). They have wild energy, shown by the way they dance (wide stance and lots of hopping and flailing of the arms). Plus, their fighting style actually is dancing, and they’re known to start randomly dancing at any time, which can easily be interpreted as a show of skill/power. Shiver likes to call herself cold and she is rather ruthless, shown in her obsessive need to splat opponents in battle and also staying far from the immediate action itself. But in truth she has the same wild energy as Frye, just not as openly. Her encounter starts with her acting calm and collected, but she immediately goes to taunting Agent 3 with her tongue sticking out as soon as the battle starts. She’s also more elegant in her performances, shown by how often she likes to vocalize in the background of Frye and Big Man’s singing. I interpret her character as someone who wants to appear cold and collected, but is actually rather excitable when doing something she loves (singing and fighting).
Big Man is not entirely relevant to this post, but I feel bad not talking about him so here we go. He is clearly meant to be sweet and lovable. He calls himself a pacifist, but he is loyal to his friends and fights for them and what the three of them all believe in (helping Splatsville). He can be somewhat clueless sometimes, but he’s the brains behind Deep Cut’s music. He is faaaar less energtic than the other two both in his mannerisms and his performances in Deep Cut. And he doesn’t mind being on the sidelines, such as when he wanted to hand out water bottles at the end of the race Frye suggested rather than joining it. He is not generally competitive, but enjoys taking a side in Splatfests and cheering his team on.
TLDR
Callie, Pearl, and Frye are all very energetic. Callie is more aimless with her energy; she is just very excited all the time and needs to express it somehow, like a bottled up firecracker. Pearl is unapologetically confident with her energy, making her presence known and hyping/inspiring everyone around her. Frye is more chaotic and wild with their energy, mainly with the intent of showing off their skill.
Marie, Marina, and Shiver are more on the calm side. Marie is lower energy and highly sarcastic, and only recently started showing her happiness visually. Marina’s calm is more due to humility and a need for logic, and though she is not high energy like Pearl, she still shows a lot of it during her performances. Shiver’s calm shows mainly on the outside, but she is actually higher energy when she is doing something she enjoys a lot and highly expressive.
The three idol groups are obviously all based on the same character archetypes, but that doesn’t mean they’re all actually the same and would react the same way to things. And heck, it turns out Big Man actually is relevant to this because he turns the idol archetype on its head. He’s the one with low energy, hence why Frye is high energy and Shiver is the balance between them, being calm but also high energy sometimes.
Another thing I wanted to add is that Shiver’s “calm” is more intentional than Marie and Marina’s. Shiver wants to be perceived that way, while Marie and Marina are just like that.
