I know I said I’d never write another word for Varchie but don’t worry I have my clown shoes and big red nose on!! I’ve had a lot of feelings about Archie cheating on Veronica and I guess one song just helped me articulate it somehow.

EVERYTHING ON EARTH • CH 15
He slept here all night, he notes in wonder, and more soundly than he can recall in recent history at that. He asked her the night before, as they lay side by side with their chests rising and falling in unison, if she wanted him to go -- and when her sleepy response of, “No, stay here,” fell from her lips, that was all the encouragement he needed to drift off with the warmth of her body pressed against his. He can feel her there now, beside him, and he can hear her too: the barely audible sound of her breath as she sleeps, a sound so minute that it wouldn’t even be relevant if he hadn’t spent the better part of the last four years wishing he could wake up and hear it.

Watch it Burn Down
A Varchie Fic
Hey my small band of followers, I’ve finally updated Chapter 8 of my Varchie fic, Watch it Burn Down!
Read it Here on AO3! :
Forewarning: Smut in this chapter. You have been warned, kids!
Preview!:
"But that was the best thing about you, Archie," Veronica says gripping on to my hands. "You were Good Ol' Archie," she sighs, she grabs onto my chin with her nails digging. "You were my Archie."
"I still am," I murmur, leaning in closer and letting my eyes fall shut as her hand is on my face, her touch on my skin. I'm loving it and keeping it close.
She nods and rubs her thumb on my cheek. "I know you are," she replies, eyes a little clearer and more comfortable for me. "You were always Archie, my Archie, and no amount of bad things was going to change that, no fuck up was going to change who you are inside and that's why it hurt so much."
"Why?" I ask with my eyes closed, listening to her voice. Even when she was pulling me apart her voice was like music to me.
"Because a person who's essentially good doesn't do bad and it never did suit you."
I suck in air and I open my eyes to look at her. "I didn't want to be bad," I mumble. "I wanted to be different and now it's caught up to me."
"It's caught up," she says gently. "But it's time to keep moving."
She gets up quickly, takes a sip of her shake and takes her jacket off the seat, she leaves me sitting but her eyebrows are raised. "Where are you going?" I ask her.
"We have to keep moving, remember? In the words of the Great Archie Andrews, 'maybe I could unfill you with dread?'"
"You think I'm dreading this? Ronnie, I've been burning to get back to you," I say standing up.
"Oh Archiekins, let's look at this as just a 'To Be Continued...'"
I follow after her with my hands in my pockets and my heart swelling. We'll keep moving.
Yah know, if you feel so inclined, leave me some good loving? In the form of kudos, comments and the likes.

_____________________________________
This goodbye feels final.
The air surrounding them is eerily cold for an August morning. Archie has begged for Veronica’s forgiveness since she found out about his fleeting feelings and affair with Betty. Her best friend and the one he assured her he had no real feelings for. Veronica had been ignoring his calls and texts ever since. Having the door man send him away and locking the service entrance to her building. Then, suddenly, she’s on his doorstep looking more beautiful than he’d remembered.
The look on her face tells him whatever happens today will end in heartbreak.
“I’m leaving for college today,” she says, her voice quiet and uncharacteristically devoid of emotion. “I wanted to say goodbye.”
“Veronica, I-”
“Archie, don’t say anything,” her façade starts to crack and her eyes are getting glossy. “It was so hard to ignore you. Despite the pain you put me through, my heart ached for you because I love you. I always will, but I can’t forgive you. I can’t forgive what you did to me. What you and Betty did to me. You were the one good thing in my life. The one person I trusted wholly and completely with my heart, and you stomped on it with my best friend. I can’t forgive you. I can’t do that. I love you, Archie, but I can’t be the girl that forgives the guy. Not this time.”
Her words feel like bullets, but he knows that he deserves them. There are tears in his own eyes threatening to spill as he watches her cry and pour out her heart. He knows there’s nothing he can say to make it better. Nothing that he hasn’t already said. He knows he has to let her go, but damn if it’s not the hardest thing he’s ever done.
She steps towards him, pulling his head down to rest his forehead on hers. Their sad eyes are locked on each other. He sees the pain and the hurt in her eyes, and he desperately wishes he could take it away. Take what he did back, but there is no going back.
“I’m so sorry, Ronnie,” he chokes out.
“I know,” she says before closing the gap between their lips. He can feel the goodbye in her kiss. He could kiss her forever, but it ends as soon as it starts. “But sorry isn’t enough.”
He watches her walk off his porch. She pauses to look back at him one last time. “Goodbye, Archie Andrews.”
“Goodbye, Veronica Lodge,” he raises his hand and gives a small wave. He isn’t just waving goodbye to the love of his life, but drowning in the realization that their love story is over. That he ended it with a kiss that wasn’t hers.
This goodbye is final.

To the Anon who sent the Archie/Veronica prompt that I have yet to answer:
I am so sorry. I have not forgotten about you, I PROMISE! I am actually working on your prompt (shy/forgetful boyfriend Archie which, btw, I am so down for!) along with another A/V prompt I got around the same time, but I’m currently having to work on those stories in my spare writing time, so it’s taking a while to get them out. I haven’t answered your ask yet, because I want to give the link to the story when I finish it. I also don’t really get how tumblr works, and I’m paranoid about answering and then not being able to let you know directly, “Hey, I finished this!”
So please forgive me...the Archieronnie (Varchie?) fic is underway, and I’m going to tag this to kingdom come so you’ll hopefully see it :)

WELCOME TO THE FIRST (and hopefully not last) VARCHIEDALE FICATHON!
(brought to you by the combined efforts of the varchie authors and the girls in the varchie discord)
Season 3 is a test of endurance and loyalty for us, Archie and Veronica fans. Our favorite couple has been through every single problem you can think of: crazy fathers, jail, infected wounds, abandon, other love interests, ‘just friends’, ugh!! And because of that, we have relied on fanfiction to make things better.
Except we’re a very small group of authors and we all have WIPs that we dedicate our time too, and the number of updates wasn’t enough to “fill the void” (to quote Archie lol). We started talking about how the Varchie fanfiction realm has almost no fics, no tropes, and the idea came: why don’t we stop writing our WIPs for one month so we can dedicate ourselves to fill the Varchie tag with new, exciting fanfics?
We chose April and did it! We have a list of tropes we used and a calendar planned. You’re going to get new fics every three-four days this month and I’ve read sneak peeks and you won’t know what hit you!
april 1st: post-canon angst au by @veronicasloddge  april 5th: hunger games au by @themoonhero april 9th: european trip au by @camilascheryl april 11th: fake dating au by @andsmile april 13th: single parent au by @theeternalblue april 15th: college roommate au by @tuesdayschildd april 17th: murder au by @ff16xo april 19th: varchie through the ages au by @monicaposh april 21st: firefighter au by @thevoicelessromantic later: cinderella au by @pairedaces and sabrina crossover by @nycveronicalodge
Of course, we are human and have lives (sometimes), so the fics might not be updated exactly in the planned date, but we’ll do our best to deliver a lot of content as we patiently wait for our ship to return. Because they will!
I have to requests only: PLEASE! do your best to give feedback and interact with the authors! We’re doing this for us, but also for you guys and we’d love to know what you think of our new fics! And, of course, if you see the moodboard going around with the link to the fic, reblog instead of just liking it. Let’s keep this alive! We have a long list of unused tropes and if this first ficathon goes well, we’re doing a second one for sure!
Thank you so much for the girls in the discord who helped to organize this, especially to my girl @ronniexlodge from @archieronniegifs who made the beautiful banner.
April is the Varchie month!!!

Anthology of a Kiss
Summary: Five times Archie and Veronica didn’t kiss, and the one time they did.
Rating: T
Genre: General, Alternate Universe, Romance, Angst
Pairing: Archie x Veronica
Word count: 2,025
i.
Everything begins when they’re seventeen. She’s all raven haired brutal honesty and witty comebacks, and he’s redheaded and hot, confused more than anything else.
They’re friends, but he messes up. He messed up, badly.
His fingers rest on her cheek, trailing over the smooth skin as if it were silk. Her eyes are closed and lips parted ever so slightly, taking in long, deep breaths as if she were soaking up her presence. She smells like some expensive perfume and only a touch of the earth’s scent; grounding him.
She’s fragile beneath her fingertips; a masterpiece he’s not worthy of touching. Yet she allows him, fluttering underneath his touch. He smiles at her because she looks like Snow White and only belongs to him. When his lips touch her forehead she releases a soft breath, warm again the tense skin on his neck.
But that’s not what happens.
His fingers brushes against hers when they sit together for lunch, talking about music. Her hand doesn’t linger on his after everyone leaves, and there is no affectionate gaze in the dark eyes. She waves him goodbye instead of a kiss, and he remains sitting there, lost in his imagination and fantasies.
That time, he lets her walk away. He makes a promise to make it last - a promise he breaks, continuously, four more times.
ii.
She’s broken, crying on his bed after having her heart broken. It’s the first time she allows him to see her upset; with dark mascara smeared across her face and lipstick stained from the very last makeup session she is going to have with Reggie, there is nothing shielding her from him.
He appreciates it. He takes her hands in his, sits beside her as she tells him everything, and holds her in his arms when she breaks.
It hurts. Something is tugging at his chest, the need to put her to sleep and watch her until she wakes up; to make her breakfast in bed and cater to her until she is well enough to appear before the world. To watch Reggie’s face crumble into pieces after he punches him, doing the only thing that is right.
She trembles in his arms until she doesn’t anymore. They are nineteen and it’s their last summer together, and they never thought they’d spend it like this. The moon is up and his father is asleep and he should go to sleep, too, but he can only admire the way her pale skin glistens in the white of the moonlight.
So he puts her in his bed and lies in the chair next to it, eyes open until he’s made sure her breathing is steady and her face is clean.
When he wakes up, he finds her smiling at him and that same something tugs at his chest again. She thanks him and he pulls her into a hug, inhaling the earthly scent and feels grounded again.
He doesn’t feel like he is ever going to let her go. But they part and he does, watching her leave his house with a smile on her face, but purple underneath her eyes.
He lets her go, again.
iii.
For Christmas, they were supposed to be happy. But her father was sentenced to two decades in jail, her mother is somewhere away and she is alone, with only him to make her company.
She doesn’t cry this time. They get drunk, even though they’re still just nineteen, and his father doesn’t seem to matter. When Betty and Jughead come over, the four of them get drunk even more and in an incredible game of truth or dare, the redhead and the raven haired girl end up in the closet again.
He thinks about kissing her; he’s dreamt of it one too many times. He can almost feel his fingers caressing her cheek and his lips whispering sweet nothings into her ear until she feels loved like never before. His arms holding her steady when she stumbled over her words, over her promises and when she needs someone to hold onto.
He can picture them latching their fingers together walking down the street, and lips dancing before they go to sleep every night. Her fingers tangled in his hair and a smile on her lips, because he could love her like no one else could.
And he thinks about doing it, but he doesn’t. Because he’s drunk and in love and she’s drunk and in pain and it wouldn’t be fair to put her in a situation like that, not when that’s the one thing he swore to himself never to do.
So instead of holding her and kissing her, he holds her and talks to her until she isn’t scared and lost anymore, and yet again she falls asleep in his arms. He thinks if he’s her safe space just like she is to him, but doesn’t question it anymore.
He makes sure she’s safe and sound before he sleeps on the couch, and when he wakes up in the morning, there is egg and bacon waiting for all four of them. She’s smiling at him and mouths a thank you, receiving a hug in response.
That’s when he lets her go the third time, but she’s still here. They’re holding onto something.
iv.
Things get difficult when he’s rejected from a label, leaving him with little to no money. His father lost his company and they’re drowning in debts, neither of them able to pay off the debts. It’s a miserable time for both of them and when she comes with a bottle of Jack Daniels and Coke, even though they’re twenty, his father leaves the two without a word.
He rambles about the industry and unfairness of the world and she rambles about her newest boyfriend and there it is again, the need to cup her face and kiss her senseless because the bastard wasn’t treating her right.
And somehow his problems are shaded away because his muse is the one bothered by boys who think they’re men and he wishes she would understand. He thinks about telling her the truth but he can’t, so he takes the guitar and sings a song he wrote for her when they were still teenagers.
He watches her watch him and he thinks he’s never seen someone more beautiful. It’s not just lust anymore, not just desire like when they were younger; he can see that he’s just not ready for anything serious, let alone with someone who means so much to him.
He looks her straight in the eye as he sings to a girl she doesn’t know it’s really her, but he knows and that’s what really matters. This time, he’s letting her go because he understands that that is what needs to be done. Not what he wants, but what he needs.
What they both need. He knows she’s it for him, but he thinks she doesn’t have to settle for someone like him so early. He wants her to have options. The only thing that is important is that he doesn’t stay out of her life, at any point.
So he lets her go. And for the first time, he’s okay with it.
v.
It’s the fifth anniversary of Jason Blossom’s disappearance and the entire town is holding a rally. He sees Betty and Jughead and his mind flies back to her, who’s still in New York because dealing with something so insignificant as this anniversary is nothing compared to the chaos she had at home.
So he joins the pair and they talk, despite the gloomy atmosphere, talk about the days when things were simpler, when they weren’t scattered across the country for colleges and when they’d spend days and nights together.
And she appears out of nowhere, hugging them all but him last and longest and he feels grounded for the first time in months. For the longest time he’s thought he was the one she came to in times of need and he was, but it was nothing compared to the sense of need of her he left at times. She was, more than everything, his anchor and letting her go was the stupidest decision he’s ever made.
When he lets go of her he can see that she’s gotten paler over the summer, with the blue and purple underneath her eyes that she’s stopped trying to hide. Her entire life for the past few months has been a game of truth and lies for everyone and she’s the only one who bared it all.
He wishes he could kiss her softly, on the lips, resting their foreheads together in the middle of the crowd. He wants to show her he thinks it’s okay, what she’s going through, and that she’s being extremely brave and he’s there for her.
Instead he held her hand, fingers laced together in a soothing manner, because they are both dealing with more crap than either can take. And he can see Jughead watching from some distance, questions in his eyes, to what he answers with a shake of head.
His fingers tighten around hers and he pulls her into a hug, whispering only comfort he could think of in the moment. He tells her the truth, that she’s strong and brave and it doesn’t matter what the world thinks of her, because he knows.
And when a single tear drops slides down her cheek, he knows that she knows, too. But when the day comes to a conclusion so do they, with each turning back to their own problems, miles from one another.
So he lets her go again, because he knows there’s nothing he can do to keep her.
vi.
They’re twenty four and Kevin’s getting married and they’re all supposed to be there, but she doesn’t come and they haven’t talked in weeks. It’s Betty who tells him she’s had a nervous breakdown because shit has gone even worse, with her mother getting arrested as well and her entire fortune hanging in the air, and her most recent boyfriend, the one he even liked, was a lying snake.
So he says his goodbyes to Kevin, leaves Betty and Jughead there because they came together and she’s his Maid of Honor, and sets for New York. There’s not a penny to his name and even less food or clothes in the trunk, but his friends understand and he doesn’t doubt it for a second.
So when after hours of driving without a stop he arrives at her doorstep, when she opens her door he hesitates for only a heartbeat. Her face looks beaten down and she looks like she’s taken upon herself all the weight of the world, but she’s still as out of this world as he always pictures her, as she ever has been.
Before she can say anything, he cups her face and plants a soft kiss on her lips. His fingers caress her cheeks and he feels her relax into it, before he pulls into the tightest hug. And he doesn’t whisper sweet nothings into her ear, he doesn’t say anything at all because there are no words needed.
He knows and she knows, too. So only when they part he says the words he’s said a lot of times, but never with so much emotion, never like this.
And he waited. He’s waited for seven years for this moment and when it comes and ends he doesn’t know what happens next, but he knows no matter what, he’s not letting her go.
Not this time. Not ever again.

Leaves
Hushed, the swift river flows in the distance. A pitter-patter of dewdrops, sliding off the yellow and green leaves of summer, dribbles in the rainforest. Cool and fresh air breathes in waves as the sparrows chase the morning sky. Time ambles like how the dragonflies comb the fields and for a day, the quiet seems a bit of peace.
The sun branches out the sky and as the swarms of water cross, he sits before the bank, takes in the scene, and studies each of their detail reaching his senses—learning their every hue, tone, and sound. The morning breaks out and everything and everyone, just, feels alive. Under the earth's hum, he hears a zipping unshuts and shuts. Soft and steady thuds make their way to him to wrap a warm embrace behind him.
"Good morning, lover," greets a very raspy voice, soft too that it travels to his senses in a dancing rhythm, caressing his skin, leaving traces before the rivulet washes them away. His arms lock with hers as he shifts his weight so as to lay his head on her shoulder. She’s so warm under the cool air. As they watch the bright lights span the horizon and listen to the choir of birds sing at them, the chaos of the town leaves them. Her heartbeat is loud in his ears. Looking up to her, he sees her soft waves, bare skin, and beseeching eyes watching the world burst in color. As he whispers to the angel with a smile on his face, "Good morning, beautiful," he thinks that they, he and she, could fit and find a right place in this world, one day.

Against All Odds
Archie Andrews/Veronica Lodge
Rating: E for Everyone
Tags: Fluff, Friendship
Not exactly a romance fic, but not-not romance. If you know what I mean.
"If Veronica were to leave, it would prove to everyone that there was too much tension, sexual or otherwise, for the two of them to hang out alone without it crossing some kind of line. If Veronica and Archie could spend time together without it being weird, Veronica would know that she could be around Archie without hurting her best friend." ----
Or, Betty's mom didn't let her go, Kevin was babysitting, and Jughead couldn't be bothered to get out of bed.
read below the cut or read here on ao3
The two of them didn’t mean to end up, alone, together.
They really didn’t. Everything that lead up to Archie and Veronica being alone together was completely accidental. Veronica would never do that to Betty.
In fact, she even said so.
“Archie, I could never do this Betty. Not again. Sorry, but this is just too weird. I’m just going to go home.”
The only problem was that it was in fact, raining. Veronica’s jacket, while in correct fashion for this time of year, did not account for the unpredictable weather and lack of Ubers that came with living in a small town. Veronica had to decide between getting drenched on her way home or staying here, at Archie’s house, alone.
Neither option seemed too appealing to her.
“I wouldn’t either, but this isn’t us doing anything. You could just stay here. I know things are…a little weird right now, but there’s nothing wrong with us being friends, right? We can’t hurt Betty by just being friends. It would probably be good for us to get to know each other better so we can stop walking on eggshells around each other.” What Archie was saying, was of course very true.
If Veronica were to leave, it would prove to everyone that there was too much tension, sexual or otherwise, for the two of them to hang out alone without it crossing some kind of line. If Veronica and Archie could spend time together without it being weird, Veronica would know that she could be around Archie without hurting her best friend.
So in the interest of Betty Cooper, Veronica decided to stay. As she crossed the threshold into Archie’s house, she was already worried she had made the wrong decision.
“And, like, I promise I won’t try anything.” He said, completely serious.
“Fuck, Archie.” Said Veronica. “You just made it fucking weird again.”
——
It happened in the stupidest way possible; everybody was supposed to come over to Archie’s house. It was supposed to be a group hangout. Archie, Betty, Veronica, Jughead, and Kevin. The first one, actually, of them all spending time together. Jughead and Archie were finally friends again, and they had all been sitting together at lunch and breaks. Veronica was excited that she finally felt she had her own little group in Riverdale, something that had been lacking ever since she moved from New York.
The Saturday hangout however, fell apart faster than you could say “squad”.
Kevin was the first one out.
“I’m really sorry guys but I’ve got to babysit my siblings that night.” Kevin sighed the next day at lunch. “I forgot that the second Saturday of the month is my parent’s date night.”
“Your parents do date night every month?” Jughead asked. “Sounds exhausting.”
“Actually, that’s kind of adorable.” Veronica gushed.
“Still as in love as the day they got married.” Betty teased, as Kevin gagged across the table. Betty turned to Veronica. “Kevin’s parents are so cute. You’ll die when you meet them.”
“Well, that sucks Kev. I guess the four of us can just hang out then?” Archie’s question was met with four enthusiastic nods.
“Wouldn’t miss it for the world.” Betty smiled.
——
Apparently, the world was equivalent to Betty’s mom making sudden “family plans” as soon as she heard she was going over to Archie’s on Saturday. Kevin not being there, and him being the only one of Betty’s friends that Mrs. Cooper considered acceptable, meant that she saw no reason for Betty to be allowed to attend.
“I can’t believe her!” Betty shouted angrily on a group Skype call.
“The rest of us can.” Jughead said, in-between handfuls of potato chips.
“Can’t you just sneak out or something? Just this once?” Veronica begged, thinking about how awkward it will be for her to spend the day with two ex-best friends, one of which she’s barely spoken to and the other that she knows all too well.
“Veronica…have you met my mother?” Betty asked, pointedly. She was met by a quick chorus of agreements that Betty sneaking out would be the possible worst reason in the world.
“Well I guess it’s just down to three of us.” Archie said. “That okay?”
Veronica and Jughead nodded, while Kevin began talking the background about how it was never going to be fun with Betty anyways, because he couldn’t make it.
——
Jughead, of course, just didn’t show up.
“Where is he?” Veronica asked, for probably the 18th time in the past twenty minutes. She was digging into the bottom the barrel of a peanut butter jar, before giving up and putting it down on the ground for Vegas.
“He’s probably asleep. That’s where he usually is, anyways.” Archie was sifting through his kitchen cupboards for more snacks. He had been avoiding looking Veronica in the eyes, and it was slowly driving Veronica insane. It was like the boy didn’t know how friendship worked.
“You know, back in New York, if someone didn’t show up somewhere that they said they were going to be, we kicked them out of the group.” Veronica mentioned causally.
Archie’s head snapped up at that.
“Wait, really? That seems, like, a little bit harsh don’t you think?” Archie seemed a little bit judgemental when he spoke. Well, at least he was finally looking Veronica in the eyes.
“Yeah, it was kind of a bitchy thing to do, but it’s just what we did. We had a whole list of rules, and if you didn’t follow them, you were axed immediately. Blocked on every form of social media, and just never spoken to again. We were like our own high class version of the plastics.” Veronica smirked at her movie reference.
“Plastics? Like, as in Barbie dolls?” Archie asked.
“No, like as in Mean Girls? The movie?” Veronica raised her voice accidentally at the shock of Archie not knowing the joy of such a beloved cult film.
“Oh, yeah, never seen it. People sure do love to quote it, though.” Archie dismissed the topic.
“What do you mean you’ve never seen Mean Girls?” Veronica exploded.
“Well, I don’t know, isn’t it kinda like, for girls? Like a chick flick?” Archie said.
“What? Just because it’s a female-lead movie, only girls can enjoy it?” Veronica said.
“Well, no-“ Archie started to defend himself, but Veronica threw her hand up to shut him up.
“I wasn’t finished, Archibald. Do you like SNL?” Archie nodded, unsure whether he was allowed to speak. Veronica was please that he quickly figured out that he was not. “Well, Mean Girls was written by Tina Fey, one of SNL’s most successful alumni, not to mention someone who has been paving the road for women in comedy for decades, all while being hilarious. Will Ferrel and Adam Sandler, two other successful SNL alums, don’t get treated this way and I would argue that most of their movies don’t match the comedic genius that is seen in the writing and production of Mean Girls. It is, ball means a movie, that boasts a hilarious female lead cast, with beautifully done comedy that shouldn’t be ignored just because the cover is pink and it stars a teenage girl.” Veronica tried her best not to pant after how worked up she had gotten over her speech.
Archie just stared. He looked a little bit afraid.
Veronica sighed.
“Where’s your TV?” Veronica asked.
“The living room, just right over there.” Archie pointed out the door frame.
“Okay. We’re going to watch Mean Girls.” Veronica waltzed into Archie’s living room, and began messing with his remote to try to find the on-demand option.
——
“Oh my god!” Archie exclaimed.
Veronica groaned.
“What now? Do you have any more insightful thoughts about the movie? Because I think I really needed it pointed out that Cady has trouble being in high school because she’s never been in high school.” As it turns out, Archie is a little bit slow when it comes to movies.
“No, Regina just got hit by a bus! Is she dead? I hope she’s dead. She was a bitch. Oh wait, never mind, she’s not dead.”
Veronica snorted.
“It would be so cool if she was dead.”
At that, Veronica couldn’t help but to burst out laughing.
——
“Okay, you were right, that movie was actually pretty good.” Archie said, in defeat.
“Do you promise to never again judge a movie by a young female lead?” Veronica asked.
“No. If a movie casts like, Meghan Fox as their lead I’m still probably going to judge them a little bit.” Archie said.
“She really can’t act, can she?”
“She really can’t.”
That sat in silence for a short minute.
“Hey, Archie?” Veronica asked, hesitantly.
“Yeah?”
“Are things always going to be weird between us?”
“Were things weird today?”
Veronica thought about that for a second. When Veronica first walked in this house, it felt as if she was walking on egg shells. But right now? She felt okay. Being with Archie, alone, felt okay.
“Well we just watched an entire movie sitting an appropriate amount of distance away from each other on the couch. Not too close, but not awkwardly far. I didn’t once think about trying to move closer. That seems normal.” Veronica reasoned.
“I didn’t think about doing anything either. I was too focused taking in the genius comedy of Mean Girls.” Veronica laughed. Archie shrugged. “That seems like what should be normal.”
“Have you ever had a normal friendship with a girl?”
“I don’t know anymore. There’s always been Betty, but like, I don’t know what to think of that anymore. She’s been my friend forever, and she’s like my sister. I think. I don’t know. If we were watching a movie, I might have my arm around her or something. It didn’t mean anything to me, but I think it might have meant a lot to her. All along. How long as she liked me?” Archie asked.
“I’ve been here for a month, Archie.” Veronica said.
“Right.” Archie paused. “But if you had to guess-“
“If I had to guess I would tell you that that girl has been in love with you since the moment she laid eyes on you, Archie Andrews.” Veronica said. “And I would also guess that you were blind to it all along because you loved her so much.”
“That’s probably all correct, then.” Archie trailed off.
“It’s not your fault, Archie. Just, maybe don’t touch her anymore unless you have the intention to date her.” Veronica said.
“I wish I did.” Archie said.
“I hate this.” He said.
“I love her.” He said.
“I love her too, Archie, and that’s why you better not touch me either.” Veronica said.
“I won’t.”
“And I promise I won’t touch you.” Archie nodded.
They sat in silence for a bit.
“Have you ever had a normal friendship with a guy” Archie asked.
“Not ones that aren’t gay.” Veronica said. “I went to an all girls school back in New York. Boys being anywhere meant it was an occasion, I guess. It wasn’t really until I moved here that I’ve realized that boys can be friends in the exact same way girls can. Even ones I’m attracted to.”
“Really?” Archie asked.
Veronica smiled at Archie. When she first walked into Pop Tate’s and saw him for the first time, she will admit that she just saw him as, well, a cute boy. It’s something that had happened to her a million times before. Veronica Lodge came, saw, and conquered. At least when it came to the opposite sex. She had a feeling that Archie was special from the first time she saw him. But maybe it wasn’t because they were going to date or hook up or fall in love. It might very well be because Archie was the first boy to show Veronica that boys are just like girls, in most ways anyways. All it took was a Lindsey Lohan movie to realize it.
“Really.”

No Cure for a Broken Heart
Tumblr media
OKAY TAKE TWO AT THIS!!
“You look like crap.”
Archie rolls his eyes. “Thanks.”
“I wouldn’t be a good friend if I didn’t tell you.” Jughead shrugs before taking a huge bite of his sandwich.
Archie drops his head in his hands, groaning at the headache that pounds against his temples. He figures it doesn’t hold a candle to the feeling of a broken heart. “I told her I love her,” He sighs.
“Oh I know but that’s not all you told her.” Jughead laughs. “What were you thinking?”
“I don’t know,” He mumbles, miserably. “I was thinking that maybe-”
“Shut up,” He slaps Archie’s arm, causing him to look up and scowl at his best friend. “Shut up because we have a code red and it’s headed our way.”
Archie looks between his friend and his beeper confusedly for a second. “I didn’t hear my beeper. Wait, what’s a code red?”
“Dr. Andrews.”
He almost crushes the damn thing in his hand when he hears her voice. The same voice that hurts to hear because she only talks to him when she needs to, not because she wants to. The thing about that is it hurts not to hear her voice either. He tries to block out all those nights, all those hours he spent just listening to that same voice speak about whatever was on her mind.
“Uh- Veronica,” Archie clears his throat, catching himself in a moment of weakness. “Sorry, Dr. Lodge, what can I do for you?”
“Ms. Williams has a few questions about the skin grafting but she would like to speak with you,” Veronica says, writing something on a chart. “Do you have time?”
He pinches the bridge of his nose, trying to calm the feeling of annoyance. She won’t even look at him and it’s been a week since everything went down.
If he thought for one second this is what they would succumb to, he never would’ve taken that leap. He feels like an idiot for being so sure things were going to work out.
“Yes,” Archie grumbles.
“Great. I’ll meet you in room 2024.” She finally closes the binder but only gives Jughead a facial expression that looks more like a grimace than anything. “Forsythe.”
The only thing Archie can do is stare helplessly as he watches her walk away from him, not for the first time since he’s known her. He’s hoping one day it’ll hurt less and less until it doesn’t anymore.
“That’s a code red,” Jughead whispers in his ear. “And I just watched you flatline right in front of me.”
Archie shoves him away. “How the hell are you a doctor?”
~
Archie leans against the wall as he admires Veronica Lodge from afar. He can’t help the smile that seems permanently painted on his.
Veronica rolls her shoulders, a result from a long week of working grueling hours of surgery. His hand itches to massage the pain away from her perfect body.
He knows he can’t stand another day or another minute just watching her. Watching her move on with someone who isn’t right for her. Someone who isn’t him.
“Veronica?”
There’s a soft smile on her face when she turns around. “Hey. What’s up?”
“I love you,” Archie says, all the confidence in the world.
“Wh-What?” Veronica stammers, blinking rapidly.
“I love you and I know you love me too.” He takes a step closer so that he’s invading her space.
“Archie, I-I have a boyfriend.” Her breath stutters and her eyes are scanning all over his face.
“I know.” He nods because seeing her walk these halls hand in hand with another is not something he can just block out.“I’m saying you can have a husband.”
He won’t just sit by and watch the love of his life pull away from him.
Just like she is right now with that panicked look on her face. A deer caught in the headlights look. She’s going to freak out in about three seconds but he won’t let her.
“When we broke up you said we were too young but I think that’s bullshit.” Archie chuckles at the slightly offended look on her face now. “You’re scared and I get that. There are so many things to be scared of but not us. We’re not scary… we’re-“
“Soulmates,” Veronica whispers, finally.
“Exactly. When I told you I wanted to be that for you I meant it. I still mean it,” He chokes out. “We’re soulmates and I love you. I want a life with you. So, leap with me.”
Archie takes a few steps back when he hears a set of footsteps echoing through the halls. His fists clench at his sides when he hears the voice of the one person who took everything from him.
“Hey, babe!” Reggie exclaims, giving her a side hug. “Sup, Andrews.”
She gasps like she’s just coming back to herself.
He doesn’t bother acknowledging Reggie, only focusing on Veronica who can’t seem to look at him.
“Whatever,” The brunette grunts, unbothered. “Let’s hit Joe’s.”
There’s something a lot like hope in his chest that dims the farther she lets herself be hauled off by someone else.
He wonders if there will ever be a day where she stops running in the other direction.
“Soulmates...”

EVERYTHING ON EARTH • CH 12
Veronica bites at Archie’s lower lip in his kitchen; she runs her hands up over his hair. “Ronnie,” he says after a minute, two hands on either side of her face like he wants to make sure she’s not planning to go anywhere. He’s smiling hard and bright against her mouth.
“Hi,” she says. Kissing him feels familiar but also new, a song they haven’t played on the radio in a really long time. “Risotto needs a stir.”
“Who cares?” He sets his teeth at the dip where her neck meets her shoulder and is lifting her up off the counter the tiniest bit. “God, Ronnie,” he murmurs, his lips wandering up close to her ear. “I missed you so much.”

"There's a party on the other side of Sweetwater tonight," Archie says as he walks into the student lounge towards his friends. "You guys in?"
"I'm not in much of a party mood, Arch," Jughead says in an exasperated tone staring at his laptop screen.
"Novel not going so well?" Archie says with an amused smirk.
Jughead groans loudly and begins to furiously type before slamming his laptop shut entirely, and getting up to leave.
Archie just shakes his head in amusement as he watches Jughead's retreating back. When Jughead is out of sight, he turns his attention back to Veronica, Betty, Kevin and Reggie.
"So," Archie says. "You guys in?"
"You know I'll take any excuse to wear a party dress," Veronica says.
"I could use a night out after the week I've had," Betty says. "I never realized how strong baby lungs are until Polly came to visit."
"Can't," Kevin says with a smile on his face. "Moose is coming to visit."
"As much as I love parties, I promised Josie that I'd have dinner with her family," Reggie says. "Her dad's in town."
"Well, I guess it's just the three of us," Archie says, turning towards Veronica and Betty.
