Ranking My MCs on How Likely They Would Be Adopted by Batman

Not a single person has ever asked for this. However, I have seen so much batfam stuff on my dash it's been living rent free

Val Ebony (ILITW) If you told me Val moved to Gotham and was a vigilante for a few years and then moved back right before ILITW I think I would believe you. This man has the whole package: dark hair (his hair is brown underneath all the dye), tragic backstory, shitty parents, even shittier bio dad who's also a villain, homicidal rage, he even died! But overall what got him to the top is just because of how well he fits with the Gotham and the Bats' vibes and aesthetics. Like it just feels right.

Eros Blackwell (Immortal Desires) Batman would have showed up in Crimson Beech to try to recruit Eros only for Eros to explain they do in fact still have a mom *who is on thin ice with me rn). However. They still get REALLY close, especially when they find out Gotham is on a ley line. I'm tempted to say Eros, Cas, and Gabe fuck off to Gotham after ID 2

August Rose (Crimes of Passion) So August's backstory is that they grow up most likely without their mom, and then their dad is mysteriously murdered. August tries to solve it themself but fails and instead becomes a detective to solve other crimes and hopefully find justice for other people. They're gruff, badass, and too damn clever. They were definitely Robin. Hell they could be Batman for all we know and it just wasn't mentioned in CoP

Magnus Bishop (Laws of Attraction/Into the Windverse) While slightly less likely only because he becomes a lawyer instead of some sort of detective or hero. However, he absolutely has the potential. His parents were murdered when he was young, he was tormented at school and betrayed by his friends, he was neglected by his foster mother and separated from his sister, all before he turns 18. He even gets super powers eventually. He has the determination, the ambition, and hell the whole reason he became a lawyer was to defend people from the systems that beat him down his whole life.

Asterin Nightbloom (BOLAS) I mean Asterin is pretty obvious, he's like the quintessential hero. Dead parents (twice), super skilled, heart of gold, etc etc. He's practically born to be a hero and I think he'd be such a good bat. Maybe not a Robin unless it's just for a few years before becoming his own hero

Leon Vance (It Lives Beneath) The main reason Leon is so high up is because he is so fucking capable. That's what the bats are known for among other heros. And of course there's his classic bat backstory. He's a badass, he unearths a CULT, has a cool and unique signature weapon, forms his own team and even has a super hero suit. Best part, he looks good the whole time.

Damian Stone (Murder at Homecoming) There's the obvious stuff like being a genius, a detective, unsolved mystery haunting the narrative, solving a murder, looking good doing it, socially awkward, etc etc, but I also have to add that I literally named them after Damian Wayne. In fact their name was originally gonna be Tim after Time Drake but Damian sounded better. However, they do suffer in the rankings seeing as they have both of their parents, both of which are also very good parents.

Callum Wayland (Hero) Listen, Callum would be a great DC hero but in terms of Batman relations I don't think he'd be adopted. Unfortunately for him the Super Family parallels are just too hard to ignore. However I could see him being a Bat's emotional support Super so they'd see each other a lot and I think Bruce would be begrudgingly fond of him when he finds out Callum punched a corrupt rich guy into the stratosphere.

Castor Athantis (It Lives Within) Castor has all the makings of a PHENOMENAL DC superhero but again I just don't see them as a bat. They have too much of a mystical connection. They're more likely to run ith someone like Constantine. I'm sure they'd be associated, I could definitely see Castor joining Justice League Dark, but that's it

Emrys (The Cursed Heart) Emrys will fight for people but it's not something they're really going to pursue. They have the backstory for it, don't get me wrong, but going out and punching bad guys just isn't really their thing. In a modern au they might be some sort of friend of Bruce's and a Batman ally but they wouldn't be a hero.

Julian Athantis (It Lives Within) Julian is just as good a candidate as Castor, down to mystical powers. But Julian would only be a hero to help Castor, if he was one at all. He just wouldn't have his heart in it. He'd show up, help other heroes, and I could definitely see his and Lincoln's apartment being open to be used as a safe house, but he just doesn't want to be a hero. Not as in he's just not interested, more as in he actively does not want to be a hero.

Taylor McKenzie (Endless Summer) Taylor is in a similar boat as Julian where he doesn't really want to be a hero. He'll show up to big planet-threatening shit but otherwise he just wants to go to college and love his friends and husband. I could see the Justice League, Batman especially, keeping tabs on him so they'd know each other but that's about it. More likely Taylor would just go create problems for Dr. Fate when he's bored and then go back to minding his business.

Apollo Solaris (The Elementalists) Apollo really fits the hero archetype. However. I think if he stepped foot in Gotham city he'd explode. Or maybe Gotham would. They just clash so severely that even if he did meet Batman for whatever reason they'd hate each other.

Mattheo Lazarin (Bloodbound) Listen. Mattheo has enough on his plate being the Bloodkeeper and dealing with vampire shit. He doesn't have time to care or be a hero.

I'd say it's a joint effort. Chip, being daytime (and the Earth cough cough), welcomes the sun and guides it across the sky; Solaris, being time, controls and measures the planetary cycles, with the sun being the king of our solar system.

In the grander scheme of things it's Solaris' job but from the vantage of Earth it's #the duty of Light Gaia to oversee the day #I think of it along percy jackson rules. wherein planetary movements are real AND Apollo drives his chariot across the sky #ASSOM lore (not that this necessarily references that but it's on my mind now) established that the gods gain power through belief #and there are many layers of things happening at once. again it's a concept incomprehensible to us mortals #but who's to say?#hopefully this makes even a tiny bit of sense. goodnight

Something possessed me to draw a hc mom character for Aphelios and Alune....enjoy? Headcanon info under cut lol

Adelos was just another warrior devoted to Lunari cause, acting as patrol to look out for Solari that might attack them. She never married and got pregnant during a one-night stand (it gets lonely out there ok). No idea who the father is….mostly bc I didn't wanna design a dad

A seer took notice that the birth of her children might be during a Lunar Convergence, so she was promptly sent to the temple to be taken care by the Lunari religious leaders. She also was promoted to be a temple guardian just to keep her in the inner Lunari circle. When the twins were born, she did allow the leaders to raise them as the prophesied "children of destiny." Like most Lunari, she believed this was for the greater good of her people. Of course she still was allowed to visit them whenever she wished.

Unfortunately the Solari heard about this news, and perceived the twins as a threat. They sent assassins after to kill the fated children, but Adelos and her squad was able to intercept this…at the cost of her life. Adelos was given an honorable funeral and venerated, but her role as the mother of the twins were never disclosed to anyone outside of the Lunari religious leaders. Tragedy was too common among them, and it would merely be a distraction to the twins if they knew…

FYI, Adelos is just me adding an "A" to Delos, the island where Artemis and Apollo were born. Also in Greek it means "Invisible"…which is fitting bc she will never be remembered by her children :)

I am obsessed with the how others see them, vs how they see themselves, vs how you the all-knowing creator see them.

But also like, with symbolism (ex as a cloud/as a flower/as a type of water, etc) 👀👀👀

THIA I ABSOLUTELY ADORE YOU. I'm about to talk so fucking much. So I loaded some classification things into a randomizer and used one for each character

let's do this

Magnus (Windverse/LoA) - Animal

If you asked other people what animal Magnus is, they'd say a panther, something intimidating and powerful, yet elegant and reserved.

But if you asked Magnus himself, well first he'd refuse to answer because he'd think the question is ridiculous, but then he'd say an owl because they're known as clever and tend to represent wisdom, which is the piece of himself he's put so much value in and relied on his whole life.

However, I've always associated Magnus with butterflies, specifically blue butterflies. Butterflies obviously represent change and rebirth which Magnus has done multiple times, breaking free from his old life for a new one and becoming someone new. But blue butterflies also represent joy and love, and the love of others (both platonic and romantic) and Magnus's own love are what showed him the joy in life and let him become one more version of himself: a happy one.

Apollo (The Elementalists) - Flower

If you asked most other people what kind of flower Apollo would be, they'd say a sunflower for pretty obvious reasons. Apollo is bright, kind, and passionate, and I mean. It's literally called a sunflower. It's very surface level but unfortunately most peoples' view of Apollo is very surface level.

If you asked Apollo what kind of flower he'd be, honestly he'd probably say a sunflower at first too, but if he thought about it for a second, he would say a hibiscus. Hibiscus flowers are bright and colorful and grow tall in warm climates. But they need sun to to bloom and even then only bloom for a day, closing again by night which is exactly how Apollo sees himself. Without his sun attunement, aka his power, he would be nothing. To go even further, when people look at him he's bright and beautiful but as soon as he's alone he's terrified and sad and stressed.

For my assessment, I'd say a lotus flower. I may be biased because it's my second favorite flower but Lotus's bloom up through muddy water and still come up beautiful which is exactly what Apollo did (symbolically at least). He was hunted by Raife from the moment he was born, had his memories erased and childhood stole, lost his parents, was lied to his entire life and was raised without magic and his twin, finally found somewhere he felt he belonged only to be hunted again, nearly lost his friend and almost died, then he was accosted by Kane and tortured, then (in my version of canon) ended up losing his mentor and hunted by his own people. But he came out of it beautiful and bright

Kieran (BG3 Durge) - Element

Most people when asked would definitely say Kieran is fire. Dangerous, unpredictable, (hot-) and passionate, maybe warm, but destructive.

If you ask Kieran themself, they may also say fire honestly, for the same reasons as every one else. But if you find them in a nicer mood they might say earth. Dark caves and sharp things but equally full of life and beauty. Something determined and strong.

But I would say water because more than anything Kieran is adaptable, no matter what situation they end up in, no matter who they're with who what they're facing, they always end up on top. More than that, Kieran just has this deep sadness within them that is best reflected in water. Water is also a symbol of transformation and healing which is a summary of Kieran's entire arc. Even better, it's what he evokes in so many of the people around him, not just themself.

Hello!

In fact, yes! I pulled inspo from a lot of places for the gods.

The first one that always comes to mind is Terra. He is heavily inspired by Hephaestus. <3 (forgive me if I misspelled that).

Bonnie has a bit of Dionysus inspo to him, makes wines and is known for showing his pals a good time <3 (Although he's also a god of medicine and plant stuff)

Sun is kind of a weird mix of a Zeus and, Apollo, and Ra.

Moon might have drawn some inspiration from Chang' e <3

Pluto is like a combo of Athena and Demeter.

Solaris has a lot A LOT of Zeus/Odin inspo :0

And then there's Obscura, she's definitely been touched by Hecate.

Eclipse... I'm not sure. He's just. Eclipse? Big gentle fella. I think if I likened him to anyone in myth it'd probably be Sisyphus. Trying his hardest to be good but punished for it.

Lunar DEFINITELY has some draw from Loki. Trickster and all, you know? But he also has a bit of Hermes to him.

Chica could be considered a Hestia type.

Roxy is very much Aphrodite but not in the way you expect- did you know some places worshipped Aphrodite as a goddess of war? :)

When I think of Freddy I often imagine a figure similar to a buddha. In the story, he's actually a very old guardian spirit who ascended to godhood by way of worship. He's a very gentle dad type and I love him.

There is no god or myth fowl enough in my memory for Afton. Perhaps if you squint you might see some demon lore there.

I must confess I actually just cobbled their outfits together with no real references (except Moon's hat). I've been working on getting some refs together to make them proper outfits recently. I want to remake their ref sheet.

I'd also like to quickly say while I love myths and such I am by no means an expert in any religions or cultures and I really don't want to step on any toes. For this reason, I've been hesitant to step away from the Greek stuff and touch on any other gods because my understanding of them is looser and I don't want to cause harm by presenting them in a way that is incorrect.

It is kind of funny that each deity and godlike entity that sonic fought each represent a concept and a figure

I mean perfect chaos was the god of Destruction but in the form of the Sea and people like to call him the leviathan

What would the other be viewed as

Yeah Chaos is a Water based entity and is an entity of destruction. This makes me at least think of Noah's ark and the flood that destroyed the world leaving only a small number of people and two of every animal to survive (much like how Tikal lifted Angel Island and whoever was left alive on it up into the sky to escape Chaos's destruction). It is very interesting that while water is viewed as a source of life for many civilizations such as ancient Egyptians with the Nile River, with Chaos the monstrosity of the water is portrayed as a source of death. His final form even resembles classical depictions of the biblical concept of "the leviathan" which you can also find in the likes of Final Fantasy.

Solaris is the god of time, which thematically is appropriate because the playable characters of Sonic 06 are Shadow who is from the past, Silver who is from the future, and Sonic who lives in the moment. Solaris is also worshiped as a Sun deity by Soleanna, which makes sense considering the Sun is an omnipresent force that has always and will always exist and provides a central point of stability for our solar system. Mephiles is also obviously named for the demon Mephistopheles of the Faustian bargain, and he does spend the entire game lying to everyone and even tries to trick Silver into selling his soul and tries to put Shadow through a figurative hell. Iblis is also the islamic name for the devil, and of course Iblis turns Silver's future into a fire and brimstone hell on earth.

Dark Gaia and Light Gaia are very ying and yang-y being representative of a cycle of death and rebirth for the planet, when in its undisturbed state is considered natural and balanced. Gaia is also obviously the name of a greek deity, the mother of Zeus and his siblings and god of the earth. The Gaia Colossus that Chip pilots in the final boss is inspired by the colossus of Rhodes which is a statue of Helios. Helios is interesting because he is a Titan who pre-dates the Olympians and metatextually over time he got kind of combined into Apollo by Greek culture, which is dripping with thematic implications (also another Sun God). Dark Gaia meanwhile seems to be following from the concept of Chaos who is a primordial greek god that is the void state from which all creation originates from, just as how Dark Gaia wipes the slate of the planet clean leaving a void for Light Gaia to nurture new life from. So we have Chaos/The Void/Dark Gaia destroying all life on the planet, and then Helios/The Sun/Light Gaia plants and grows it all back, in an infinite renewing cycle of destruction and genesis.

Even Illumina from Sonic Shuffle is called the goddess of dreams, which brings one to think of the greek god Morpheus.

The well definitely runs deep.
